RESUMEN

Facial seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that presents as erythematous scaly dermatitis and has a detrimental effect on the patient's quality of life. The purpose of this article is to present successful treatment of two male patients with face seborrheic dermatitis, one aged 50 and the other aged 56, who developed facial seborrheic dermatitis following facial erythema eruptions. We diagnosed it as face seborrheic dermatitis based on the patients' initial appearances and the location of the erythema during the episode. The previous doctor diagnosed the patients' facial symptoms as related to allergies or infections; therefore, they were treated with long-term anti-inflammatory (tacrolimus) and antiallergic medications (loratadine) throughout the disease's early stages. Erythema of the face was recurring and recalcitrant. Their facial skin lesions vanished after one week of Chinese herbal medicine treatment along with warming yang therapy. The application of the principle of warming the kidney yang to the treatment of face seborrheic dermatitis produced favorable results. This may be an advantageous adjunct to the treatment of recurrent seborrheic dermatitis of the face. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS) was used to determine the primary components of the Chinese herbal formula "adjusted Shen-Liu-Wei (ASLW)," which has six natural substances as its primary components. As a result, we believe that the Chinese herbal compound ASLW might be a viable alternative for symptom relief and successful treatment of face seborrheic dermatitis.

RESUMEN

Owing to their good stability and high photothermal conversion efficiency, the development of carbon-based nanoparticles has been intensively investigated, while the limitation of unsatisfactory cellular internalization impedes their further clinical application. Herein, we report a novel strategy for fabrication of Fe3O4 yolk-shell mesoporous carbon nanocarriers (Fe3O4@hmC) with monodispersity and uniform size, which presented significantly higher cell membrane adsorption and cellular uptake properties in comparison with common solid silica-supported mesoporous carbon nanoparticles with core-shell structure. Moreover, the MRI performance of this novel Fe-based nanoparticle could facilitate precise tumor diagnosis. More importantly, after DOX loading (Fe3O4@hmC-DOX), owing to synergistic effect of chemo-phototherapy, this therapeutic agent exhibited predominant tumor cell ablation capability under 808 nm NIR laser irradiation, both in vitro and in vivo. Our work has laid a solid foundation for therapeutics with hollowed carbon shell for solid tumor diagnosis and therapy in clinical trials.

RESUMEN

Rheum lhasaense (Polygonaceae) is one of the genuine medicinal herbs in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China. Here we report the first chloroplast (cp) genome of R. lhasaense using Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform. The length of its complete cp genome is 161,820 bp, containing four sub-regions. A large single copy region (LSC) of 87,086 bp and a small single copy region (SSC) of 12,814 bp are separated by a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 30,960 bp. The complete cp genome of R. lhasaense contains 130 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the cp genome is 37.4%. The phylogenetic analysis, based on 28 cp genomes, suggested that R. lhasaense is closely related to R. acuminatum and R. pumilum.

RESUMEN

Traditional Chinese medicine has usually been recognized to be efficacious to treat chronic diseases from the western point-of-view. However, there is a long history in China of applying traditional Chinese medicine in many acute and urgent medical conditions. In this review, selected methods documented in traditional Chinese medicine including blowing air to ear, nose insufflating therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion were presented as the common practices to promote consciousness recovery from coma. We aimed to explore the mechanism of these four methods with current scientific evidence, further discuss the potential of traditional Chinese medicine to be applied in emergency medicine and provide a path forward to more rigorously validate these procedures. The development of the integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicines provides a new therapeutic direction for the new first-aid treatment.

RESUMEN

Efficiency of yeast transformation is determined by the rate of yeast endocytosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of introducing amino acids and other nutrients (inositol, adenine, or p-aminobenzoic acid) in the transformation medium to develop a highly efficient yeast transformation protocol. The target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1) kinase signalling complex influences the rate of yeast endocytosis. TORC signaling is induced by amino acids in the media. Here, we found that increasing the concentration of amino acids and other nutrients in the growth media lead to an increase yeast transformation efficiency up to 107 CFU per µg plasmid DNA and per 108 cells with a 13.8 kb plasmid DNA. This is over 130 times that of current published methods. This improvement may facilitate more efficient experimentation in which transformation efficiency is critical, such as yeast two-hybrid screening.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed to compare the efficacy and safety of direct factor Xa inhibitors (rivaroxaban and apixaban) with enoxaparin for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total knee replacement. METHODS: A systematic literature search in Medline, EMBASE, EBSCO, Springer, Ovid and Cochrane library databases was performed to identify RCTs comparing rivaroxaban/apixaban with enoxaparin for the prevention of VTE after total knee replacement. The outcomes including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and major bleeding were pooled using risk ratios (RRs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) as statistic. RESULTS: A total of 6 RCTs with 13,790 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, the incidence of DVT was significantly decreased with the use of direct Xa inhibitors (both twice daily [b.i.d] and once daily [q.d.] regimes) comparing with the enoxaparin treatment (P<0.01); however, there was no significant influencing difference between direct Xa inhibitors (b.i.d. regime) and enoxaparin on the incidence of PE (P=0.06), while significantly lower rate was found for q.d. regime of direct Xa inhibitors (P=0.02). With respect to major bleeding, the pooled analysis did not demonstrate a significant difference between direct Xa inhibitors (b.i.d. and q.d. regimes) and enoxaparin (30mg and 40mg b.i.d.). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our results confirmed that direct Xa inhibitors (rivaroxaban and apixaban) were more effective for prevention of VTE after total knee replacement as compared with enoxaparin, without increasing major bleeding risk.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the broad-sense heritability of the production of Glycyrrhiza uralensis and the content of glycyrrhizin as well as the genetic relationship of various growth indexes and biomass indexes, and provide the scientific basis for establishment of high quality licorice cultivate technology system. METHOD: The randomized method was used to assign the provenance trial, the content of glycyrrhizin was determined by HPLC, and the method of classic genetics was applied to estimate the broad-sense heritability and genetic correlation coefficient. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: The content of glycyrrhizin is influenced by the growth environment and gene, but the growth environment is the dominant factor. The estimated result of single sites about broad-sense heritability (h2) showed that the production of G. uralensis (W(u)) and the content of glycyrrhizin was controlled by gene which the broad-sense heritability was 0.663 2, 0.751 1 respectively, they had some potential on genetic modification. The results of genetic analysis correlation showed that the plant height and the stem diameter was positive (P < 0.01) correlated significantly with the production (W(u)) either on phenotype or on genetic, it suggests that the plant height and the stem diameter could be the index above ground to assessment the production of the G. uralensis. The content of glycyrrhizin had a positive correlation with the number of lateral root (P < 0.05), but it had a negative correlation with the plant height, stem diameter, diameter of root top (D(r)), the total biomass (W(t)) and the biomass underground (W(u)) on inheritance. It is suggested that it was difficult to achieve both high content and high yield simultaneously in the genetic improvement, so we should have a deeply thought about the specific improvement target when making the reformed scheme.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) of local plus distal acupoints on spinal substance P expression in chronic radicular pain (CRP) rats so as to investigate its underlying mechanism in the treatment of chronic radical pain. METHODS: Twenty-five Wistar rats were randomized into control, model, local acupoints [LA, bilateral "Jiaji" (EX-B 2)], distal acupoints [DA, bilateral "Yanglingquan" (GB 34)], and LA+ DA groups, with 5 cases in each. CRP model was duplicated by implanting a gel-silicon wrapping the nerve root of L4 under anesthesia. EA (2 Hz, < or =2 mA) was applied to EX-B2 and GB34 for 30 min for 8 days. Pathological changes of the local focus tissue were observed by HE dyeing, and the animals' motor state was also observed. The pain threshold was detected by using tail-flick method. Substance P immunoreactive (IR) positive product of the spinal dorsal horn (L3-L5) was detected by immunohistochemical method and expressed as integrated optical density (IOD). RESULTS: The motor scores on day 35 after modeling and pain threshold values on day 4 and 8 after treatment in EX-B2 group, GB34 group and EX-B2 + GB34 group were significantly higher than those in model group (P < 0.05, 0.01). Compared with model group, IOD values of SP in the spinal dorsal horn in EX-B2 , GB34 and EX-B2 + GB34 groups were significantly lower (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences among the 3 EA groups in the expression of SP in the spinal dorsal horn. CONCLUSION: EA of EX-B2, GB34 and EX-B2 + GB34 all has a good analgesic effect in CRP rats, which may be realized partially by suppressing the release of SP in the spinal cord. No significant differences were found among local acupoint, distal acupoint and local plus distal acupoint groups in relieving CRP, improving motor and decreasing SP expression.

RESUMEN

In the present article, the authors, in the light of their research in recent a decade of years, make an overall summary on the regularities of clinical acupuncture from the stimulated points, the superficial and deep layers, the literature basis and the innovation points. These basic regularities include symmetry or corresponding, segmental innervation, center or central axis, superiority of distal limbs, ending-stimulation accelerating analgesia, periphery-stimulation accelerating easiness and smooth, local feed back, specific feed back, selection of the stimulated points, acupuncture of different layers, etc.. They also discuss the possibility of integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine from the view-points of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and rehabilitation medicine. Systematic analysis on the regularities of clinical acupuncture makes the ancient meridian-collateral theory and abundant clinical experience summed up in definite concepts, simplifies the complicated theory system of acupuncture learning, and favors the communication about the terminology of Chinese medicine and Western medicine.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the distribution of the blood vessels in the integument tissue of the channel area of legs. METHODS: The integument tissue of the lower limbs in the 12 cadavers were dissected with macro-and micro-dissection, radiographical technique of systemic artery and technique of image pattern analysis to observe and analyze the origins, branches and anastomoses in the integument tissues along the channels of legs. RESULTS: The distributional density of the blood vessels in the integument tissues of legs along the channel area of the three-yin meridians of the foot, the Gallbladder Meridian, and the Urinary Bladder Meridian was higher than that in the other parts. They formed an obvious nutrient vascular chain on the arteriogram. The distributional density in the channel area of the Stomach Meridian was not obviously increased and the obvious nutrient vascular chain could not be seen. CONCLUSION: An obvious nutrient vascular chain is formed in the integument tissue along the channel area of legs except the Stomach Meridian.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To provide an appropriate angle and depth of needle insertion in acupuncture at Zusanli (ST 36) and avoid injuring the nerve and blood vessel and exert the most effect. METHODS: Eighty adult lower-limb samples were used to dissect and observe the relative layered structures and adjoining important nerves and blood vessels in needling Zusanli (ST 36) according to the national standard. RESULTS: The needling depth from the skin to the interosseous membrane and from the skin to posterior border of tibialis posterior is (2.22 +/- 0.31) cm and (4.42 +/- 0.53) cm, respectively. There are flabellate branches of anterior tibial arteries and deep peroneal nerves around the needle in the superficial layer of interosseous membrane. The vessel and nerve bundles containing tibial nerve and posterior tibial vessels can be touched when the needle body past through tibialis posterior. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that ideal average depth of acupuncture is 2.22 cm and the maximum depth is 4.42 cm for oblique needling Zusanli (ST 36). When it is injected, the needle should be perpendicularly inserted or deviated slightly to the direction of tibia and paralleled to medial surface of tibia. And the safe needling depth is generally less than 5 cm. The point of the body surface between tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus at 3 cun below Dubi (ST 35) is also an effectively stimulating point.
