RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) using intermittent wave stimulation in enhancing facial symmetry and nerve function in chronic Bell's palsy patients. METHODS: A 6-week assessor-blinded, randomized trial followed by an 18-week observational period was conducted. Sixty individuals with chronic Bell's palsy, showing no signs of recovery after 12 months, were equally divided to receive either 18 sessions of EA using intermittent wave stimulation or Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation (TES), administered thrice weekly over 6 weeks. The primary outcome measure was the change in the total facial nerve index (TFNI) score from baseline to Week 6, with secondary outcomes including TFNI scores at Weeks 12 and 24, as well as the change in Sunnybrook Facial Grading System (SFG) score from baseline to Week 6, and SFG scores at Weeks 12 and 24. RESULTS: The EA group showed a significant improvement, with a mean total facial nerve index score increase of 24.35 (4.77) by Week 6 compared with 14.21 (5.12) in the Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation group (P<.001). This superiority persisted during the 24-week follow-up. While no significant difference was observed in the Sunnybrook Facial Grading System score change from baseline to Week 6, variations were noted at Weeks 12 and 24. No major adverse effects were reported. CONCLUSION: EA with intermittent wave stimulation notably enhanced facial symmetry in chronic Bell's palsy patients over Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation by Week 6, maintaining this edge throughout the follow-up.

RESUMEN

To deepen the understanding of the acupoint indications, clarify the targeting of acupoints, and provide a basis for the composition of acupuncture prescriptions, it is suggested to add acupoint identification into the textbook Meridians and Acupoints, and a preliminary assumption that relevant acupoints can be identified by taking the indications, locations, and meridians as the key points is proposed. In this paper, acupoints for treating stomach disease, acupoints of eye region, and five-shu points of lung meridian are taken as examples, combined with ancient literature and modern scientific research achievements, the main indications of acupoint is identified, which is of great significance to the discipline's development, talent training, and achievement transformation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of CO2 laser moxibustion on endometriosis related pelvic pain of cold coagulation and blood stasis. METHODS: A total of 76 patients with endometriosis related pelvic pain of cold coagulation and blood stasis were randomized into a laser moxibustion group and a sham laser moxibustion group, 38 cases in each group. In the laser moxibustion group, moxibustion was applied at bilateral Zigong (EX-CA 1) using CO2 laser moxibustion instrument. In the sham laser moxibustion group, the manipulation of moxibustion was same as the laser moxibustion group, without laser output. The treatment was given once every other day, 30 min each time, 3 times a week for 4 weeks in both groups. Before and after treatment and follow-up of 3 months after treatment, the scores of Gracely box scale (GBS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were observed, the usage of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for the duration of the treatment and the average days of taking drugs were recorded in both groups. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the GBS and VAS scores were decreased after treatment and during follow-up in the laser moxibustion group (P<0.05), while those in the sham moxibustion group had no significant differences (P>0.05). Compared with the sham moxibustion group, the GBS and VAS scores were decreased after treatment and during follow-up (P<0.05), the cases and average days of taking drugs were less in the laser moxibustion group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: CO2 laser moxibustion can improve the pain symptom in patients with endometriosis related pelvic pain of cold coagulation and blood stasis, and reduce the use of analgesic drugs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Warm acupuncture, a combination of the mechanical stimulation of acupuncture and thermal stimulation of moxibustion, is commonly used in treating acute low back pain (LBP). This trial aimed to compare the efficacy of stronger (above 43°C) and weaker (above 40°C) heat stimulation in warm acupuncture on the function and pain in patients with acute LBP due to lumbosacral disc degeneration (LDD). METHODS: One hundred and fifty-nine adults were randomly assigned to receive warm acupuncture treatment with silver needle (SvN) or with stainless steel needle (SSN) (1:1). Both groups received a 3-week therapy with 3 sessions per week. The primary outcome was the modified Oswestry Disability Index at week 4. The secondary outcomes included average pain, three physical sign tests and adverse events. Participants were followed up at week 16 and week 28 after randomization. RESULTS: The LBP related disability and pain intensity significantly relieved more in the SvN warm acupuncture group than in the SSN group, in both the short and long term (p<0.001). The between-groups difference in physical signs showed statistical significance only in the short term (p = 0.024), but not in long term (p = 0.081; p = 0.069). CONCLUSION: Compared with warm acupuncture with stainless-steel needle at above 40°C, warm acupuncture with silver needle at above 43°C relieved more disability and pain in patients with acute LBP due to LDD. RESUMEN

Nr5a (Fushi tarazu factor 1, Ftz-F1) homologues belong to the nuclear receptor superfamily, and are involved in the regulation of reproduction in vertebrates. Four genes encoding Nr5a homologues were present in the genome of ricefield eel, which are designated as nr5a1a, nr5a1b, nr5a2, and nr5a5 in the present study. Alternatively spliced transcripts were identified for nr5a1a and nr5a1b genes. Sequence analysis indicated that nr5a5 is possibly a paralog of nr5a2, and nr5a1b is lost during evolution in some teleosts including tilapia and medaka. Ricefield eel nr5a genes exhibit tissue-specific expression patterns, with nr5a1a and nr5a1b resembling that of the SF-1/Ad4BP (NR5A1) subfamily, and nr5a2 and nr5a5 resembling that of the NR5A2/LRH/FTF subfamily. Transcriptomic analysis revealed parallel expression profiles of nr5a1a, foxl2, and cyp19a1a in ovarian follicles during vitellogenesis, with peak values at the late vitellogenic stage. Real-time PCR indicated that the expression levels of nr5a1a and foxl2 in gonads were decreased significantly during the sexual transition from female to the late intersexual stage. In vitro transient transfection assay showed that Nr5a1a up-regulated ricefield eel cyp19a1a promoter activities synergistically with Foxl2. However, Nr5a1b, Nr5a2, and Nr5a5 could neither activate ricefield eel cyp19a1a promoter alone nor enhance the stimulatory effects of Foxl2 on cyp19a1a promoter activities. Collectively, the above data suggest that Nr5a homologues may have diverse and differential roles in the tissues of ricefield eels. The up-regulation of gonadal nr5a1a and foxl2 during vitellogenesis may be important for the ovarian development whereas their down-regulation during the sexual transition period may be important for the sex change process of ricefield eels, possibly through the regulation of cyp19a1a gene expression.

RESUMEN

Cell wall polysaccharides in fruits act a pivotal role in their resistance to fungal invasion. Lasiodiplodia theobromae (Pat.) Griff. & Maubl. is a primary pathogenic fungus causing the spoilage of fresh longan fruit. In this study, the influences of L. theobromae inoculation on the disassembly of cell wall polysaccharides in pericarp of fresh longans and its association with L. theobromae-induced disease and softening development were investigated. In contrast to the control, samples with L. theobromae infection showed more severe disease development, lower firmness, lower amounts of cell wall materials, covalent-soluble pectin, ionic-soluble pectin, cellulose and hemicellulose, whereas higher value of water-soluble pectin, higher activities of cell wall polysaccharide-disassembling enzymes (cellulase, ß-galactosidase, polygalacturonase and pectinesterase). These findings revealed that cell wall polysaccharides disassembly induced by enzymatic manipulation was an essential pathway for L. theobromae to infect harvested longans, and thus led to the disease occurrence and fruit softening.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To investigate the microRNA (miRNA)-gene interactions underlying leukocyte functions and characteristics, especially the potential serum biomarkers, implicated in the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)-defined Pi-qi-deficiency syndrome (PQDS) and Pi-wei damp-heat syndrome (PDHS) resulting from chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). METHODS: Using RNA/miRNA-sequencing approach, compared with healthy control population, we identified the PDHS- or PQDS-specific miRNAs and genes in leukocytes or serums, especially the Zheng (syndrome)-specific miRNA-gene interactions, and further decoded their functions and pathways. RESULTS: Despite being the TCM-defined Zhengs resulting from the same disease of CAG, the Zheng-specific genes and miRNAs were not same. The PDHS-specific leukocyte genes were mainly involved in defense and immune responses, including NOD-like receptor signaling and several synapses-related pathways. The expression upregulation of PDHS-specific genes enriched in the neutrophil degranulation pathway, indicated the enhanced leukocyte degranulation activation. The PQDS-specific genes in leukocytes were implicated in inflammatory response, extracellular matrix (ECM) organization and collagen catabolism. They could be enriched in MAPK and IL17 signaling and helper T cell differentiation pathways, especially the pathways associated with cell-to-cell adhesion/junction and communication such as cell adhesion molecules, ECM organization and ECM-receptor interaction, probably contributing to the characteristics and functions of leukocytes. Also, the experimentally-supported miRNA-gene interactions, concerned with COL4A2, COL26A1, SPP1 and PROCR, were implicated in the regulation of pathways related to cell-to-cell adhesion/junction and communication, suggesting the potential roles of the PQDS-specific miRNA-gene interactions for the characteristic and functional changes of leukocytes. Interestingly, the PQDS-specific miRNAs in the serums and the corresponding leukocytes, seemed to have the common roles in contributing to the characteristics and functions of leukocytes. Importantly, the hsa-miR-122-5p could be a potential biomarker, capable of being contained and carried in plasma exosomes and much higher expression in both the leukocytes and corresponding serums in the CAG patients with PQDS rather than PDHS. CONCLUSIONS: These results may provide new insights into the characteristic and functional changes of leukocytes in the two Zhengs, PDHS and PQDS, especially the miRNA-mediated gene regulation underlying leukocyte characteristics and functions, with potential leukocyte and serum biomarkers for future application in integrative medicine. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To explore the outcomes of combined transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumour thrombus (PVTT) and to establish a prognostic prediction nomogram to differentiate target patients and stratify risk. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This multicentre, retrospective study consisted of 185 consecutive treatment-naïve patients with HCC and PVTT treated with TACE plus sorafenib from three institutions between January 1st, 2012 and December 31st, 2017. The primary outcome measurement of the study was overall survival (OS). The type of PVTT was classified by the Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan. The prognostic nomogram was established based on the predictors and was performed with interval validation. RESULTS: The median OS of the Vp1-3 and Vp4 groups was 12.4 months (11.7-18.9) and 8.5 months (7.6-11.2) (P = 0.00098), respectively, and there was a significant difference in the median OS between the Vp1-2 and Vp3 subgroups (16.4 months (12.2-27.9) vs. 10.9 months (8.4-18.1), P = 0.041). The multivariate Cox regression analysis suggested that tumour size, albumin-bilirubin grade, and PVTT type were independent prognostic factors. The C-index value of the nomogram based on these predictors in the entire cohort was 0.731 (0.628-0.833). CONCLUSIONS: After the combined therapy of TACE and sorafenib, advanced HCC patients with segmental or subsegmental PVTT showed better survival than those with main PVTT. The nomogram can be applied to identify advanced HCC patients with PVTT who may benefit most from the combination treatment and be helpful for making decision in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND. Drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) has emerged as an alternative to conventional TACE (cTACE) for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), although selection between the approaches remains controversial. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to compare DEB-TACE and cTACE in the treatment of patients with unresectable HCC in terms of hepatobiliary changes on imaging and clinical complications. METHODS. This retrospective study included 1002 patients (871 men, 131 women; mean age, 59 ± 12 years) from three centers who had previously untreated unresectable HCC and underwent DEB-TACE with epirubicin (780 procedures in 394 patients) or cTACE with ethiodized oil mixed with doxorubicin and oxaliplatin (1187 procedures in 608 patients) between May 2016 and November 2018. Among these patients 83.4% had hepatitis B-related liver disease, 57.6% had Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage A or B HCC, and 42.4% had three or more nodules. Mean tumor size was 6.3 ± 4.2 cm. Hepatobiliary changes and tumor response were evaluated with CT or MRI 1 month after TACE. Clinical records were reviewed for adverse events. RESULTS. Bile duct dilatation (p < .001) and portal vein narrowing (p = .006) on imaging and liver failure (p = .03) and grade 3 abdominal pain (p < .001) in clinical follow-up occurred at higher frequency in the DEB-TACE group (15.5%, 4.6%, 2.3%, and 6.1%) than in the cTACE (7.4%, 1.6%, 0.7%, and 2.1%) group. Higher frequency of bile duct dilation in patients who underwent DEB-TACE was observed in subgroup analyses that included patients with BCLC stage A or B HCC (p = .001), with cirrhosis (p < .001), without cirrhosis (p = .04), and without main portal vein tumor thrombus (p = .002). Total bilirubin level 1 month after treatment was 1.5 ± 2.4 mg/dL (95% CI, 1.2-1.8 mg/dL) for DEB-TACE versus 1.3 ± 2.0 mg/dL (95% CI, 1.1-1.5 mg/dL) for cTACE (p = .02). The cTACE and DEB-TACE groups did not differ in other manifestations of postembolization syndrome or systemic toxicity (p > .05). Local tumor disease control rates did not differ between the cTACE and DEB-TACE groups (1 month, 96.7% vs 98.5%, p = .06; 3 months, 81.8% vs 82.4%, p = .87), but overall DCR was significantly higher in the cTACE than in the DEB-TACE group (1 month, 87.5% vs 80.0%, p = .001; 3 months, 78.5% vs 72.1%, p = .02). CONCLUSION. Compared with cTACE, DEB-TACE was associated with greater frequency of hepatobiliary injury and severe abdominal pain. CLINICAL IMPACT. Greater caution and closer follow-up are warranted for patients who undergo DEB-TACE for unresectable HCC than for those who undergo cTACE.

RESUMEN

METHODS: We adopted RNA-sequencing approach to identify differential lncRNAs and genes in leukocytes, clustered expression profiles, and analyzed biological functions and pathways of differential genes to decode their potential roles in contributing to characteristics and functions of leukocytes. In addition, interaction networks were created to detail the interactions between differential genes. In particular, we explored differential lncRNAs-mediated regulation of differential genes and predicted the subcellular location of lncRNAs to reveal their potential roles. RESULTS: Compared with TCM-defined balanced constitution (BC), 183 and 93 genes as well as 749 and 651 lncRNAs were differentially expressed (P < 0.05 and |log2 (fold change)| ≥1) in leukocytes of individuals from case populations 1 (QDC) and 2 (PQDS), respectively. Of them, 12 genes and 111 lncRNAs were common to each case population. Several networks were created to detail the interactions among case-specific genes, especially case-specific lncRNAs-mediated regulation of case-specific genes. Also, interaction networks were created for the common lncRNAs and genes. HCL analyses showed that differential genes and lncRNAs, especially the common genes and lncRNAs, kept similar expression patterns in both case populations. Furthermore, function enrichment analyses just indicated the common biological processes, namely, extracellular matrix organization and cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules. In addition, most common genes underwent very tight and complex regulation of many trans- and cis-acting lncRNAs. In particular, of them, ADAMTSL5, COL26A1, COL27A1, MSH5, and LOC390937 could be regulated by multiple case-specific and common lncRNAs, including the means that directs binding of the common lncRNAs to their coded proteins. The common changes in the extracellular matrix and integral components of plasma membrane related to cell-cell adhesion/junction and communication may implicate the linkage between QDC and PQDS, contributing to alterations in characteristics and functions of leukocytes. CONCLUSIONS: These results may provide new insights into the characteristic and functional changes of leukocytes in QDC and PQDS, especially the mechanism underlying the linkage of QDC to PQDS, with potential leukocytes biomarkers for future application in integrative medicine.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare Lipiodol uptake and tumor response in intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with and without pre-embolization vascular lake phenomenon (VLP) and to identify the incidence and predictive factors of this phenomenon, in patients treated by conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 151 consecutive patients with intermediate HCC totaling 232 nodules, who underwent cTACE from June 2015 to October 2018. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of VLP before embolization. Initial Lipiodol uptake was assessed using post-cTACE computed tomography (CT) within 1-1.5 months after cTACE. Enhanced CT or magnetic resonance imaging was performed at 6 months after the procedure to assess local recurrence and distant metastasis. RESULTS: The VLP was demonstrated in 21.85% (33/151) patients and 16.81% (39/232) nodules on the super-selective angiography. On nodule-based analysis, significantly better Lipiodol uptake (p < 0.001) and higher ORR (60.61% vs. 26.49%, p < 0.001) and DCR (87.88% vs. 51.66%, p < 0.001) were observed in the VLP group compared to the non-VLP group. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the presence of VLP (OR 6.431, 95% CI 2.495-16.579) might be a predictive factor for better Lipiodol uptake. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that poor differentiation of tumor (OR 6.397, 95% CI 2.804-19.635) remained predictive for the VLP. CONCLUSION: The incidence of VLP before embolization is 21.19%. The presence of VLP is well correlated with tumor Lipiodol uptake after cTACE and may be a new predictive factor for evaluation of cTACE efficacy and prognosis of intermediate HCC.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: As a common cause of low back pain, lumbosacral disc herniation (LDH) is usually dealt with using non-surgical interventions. In the face of concerns about prescription opioid abuse, alternative and complementary treatments may be promising, among which silver-needle warm acupuncture is considered as an upgrading option for its potential anti-inflammatory and strong analgesic effect for patients with chronic pain. In this proposed study, we aim to assess its clinical efficacy in comparison with conventional stainless steel filiform-needle warm acupuncture. METHODS/DESIGN: This is a randomized, two-armed, patient- and assessor-blinded trial. One hundred and sixty eligible patients recruited from December 2018 to June 2020 in three centers will be assigned for warm acupuncture treatment with either stainless steel filiform or silver needles. Nine sessions of 20-min treatment will be conducted during 3 consecutive weeks. Assessments with instruments including the Oswestry Disability Index, the visual analog scale, and the Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire will be performed at four time points to explore the difference of clinical efficacy between two groups. DISCUSSION: If the results show that participants treated with silver-needle warm acupuncture gain a greater improvement in terms of pain intensity, physical function, and quality of life, this study is expected to offer reliable evidence to widely push this treatment for LDH in clinical practice. RESUMEN

Synergistic therapy of tumor has attracted the attention of an increasing number of researchers because of its higher efficiency compared to single therapy. Herein, 4-carboxyphenyl porphyrin-conjugated silica-coated gold nanorods (AuNR@SiO2-TCPP) were synthesized. The synergistic treatment of photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy on A549 cancer was researched in vivo and in vitro. In the AuNR@SiO2-TCPP, Au NRs and TCPP act as photothermal agent and photosensitizer, respectively. The temperature of the AuNR@SiO2-TCPP (0.11 nmol L-1) rises to 56.8 °C for 10 min under the illumination of 808 nm laser (2 Wcm-2). In MTT assays, the viability of A549 cancer cell treated with AuNR@SiO2-TCPP (100 µg ml-1) is only 21%. In animal experiments, the relative tumor volumes in mice receiving AuNR@SiO2-TCPP (5 mg kg-1) with 660 and 808 nm irradiations were significantly inhibited and the average value is decreased to 0.78 while the average value of the control group is increased to 7.2. These results demonstrate that the AuNR@SiO2-TCPP is a potential nanomedicine against tumor for clinical application in the near future.

RESUMEN

Triptolide (TP) induces severe liver injury, but its hepatotoxicity mechanisms are still unclear. Inflammatory responses may be involved in the pathophysiology. Neutrophils are the first-line immune effectors for sterile and non-sterile inflammatory responses. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the neutrophilic inflammatory response in TP-induced liver injury in C57BL/6 mice. Our results showed that neutrophils were recruited and accumulated in the liver, which was parallel to or slightly after the development of liver injury. Neutrophils induced release of myeloperoxidase and up-regulation of CD11b, which caused cytotoxicity and hepatocyte death. Hepatic expressions of CXL1, TNF-α, IL-6, and MCP1 were increased significantly to regulate neutrophils recruitment and activation. Up-regulation of toll like receptors 4 and 9 also facilitated neutrophils infiltration. Moreover, neutrophils depletion using an anti-Gr1 antibody showed mild protection against TP overdose. These results indicated that neutrophils accumulation might be the secondary response, not the cause of TP-induced liver injury. In conclusion, the inflammatory response including neutrophil infiltration may play a role in TP-induced hepatotoxicity, but may not be severe enough to cause additional liver injury.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The green lacewing, Chrysopa pallens Rambur, is one of the most important natural predators because of its extensive spectrum of prey and wide distribution. However, what we know about the nutritional and reproductive physiology of this species is very scarce. RESULTS: By cDNA amplification and Illumina short-read sequencing, we analyzed transcriptomes of C. pallens female adult under starved and fed conditions. In total, 71236 unigenes were obtained with an average length of 833 bp. Four vitellogenins, three insulin-like peptides and two insulin receptors were annotated. Comparison of gene expression profiles suggested that totally 1501 genes were differentially expressed between the two nutritional statuses. KEGG orthology classification showed that these differentially expression genes (DEGs) were mapped to 241 pathways. In turn, the top 4 are ribosome, protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum, biosynthesis of amino acids and carbon metabolism, indicating a distinct difference in nutritional and reproductive signaling between the two feeding conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Our study yielded large-scale molecular information relevant to C. pallens nutritional and reproductive signaling, which will contribute to mass rearing and commercial use of this predaceous insect species.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Huanghua pear will lose its firmness quickly during postharvest storage at ambient temperature, and hence has limited storage and marketing potential. In this study, Huanghua pears treated with paper containing 0 (control) or 0.9 µL L-1 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) for 12 h, and then stored at (25 ± 1) °C for 30 days, were investigated for the effect on fruit firmness, cell wall composition and activities of cell wall-degrading enzymes. RESULTS: Huanghua pears without 1-MCP treatment softened rapidly during room-temperature storage and cell wall composition analyses showed an increase in water-soluble pectin (WSP) and decreases in cell wall materials (CWM) and cell wall components such as Na2 CO3 -soluble pectin (NSP), cellulose and hemicellulose. In contrast, the 1-MCP-treated fruits maintained higher firmness than the control; also, the treatment prevented the formation of WSP and reduced the degradation of CWM and cell wall components including NSP, cellulose and hemicellulose. 1-MCP treatment also significantly lowered the activities of cell wall-degrading enzymes such as pectinesterase, polygalacturonase, ß-galactosidase and cellulase during storage. CONCLUSION: 1-MCP treatment can slow down the softening of Huanghua pears through reducing cell wall-degrading enzyme activities and hence maintain the integrity of the cell wall structure. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

The analysis of protein C-termini is of great importance, because it not only provides valuable information about protein function, but also facilitates the elucidation of proteolytic processing. However, even with the recent methods for the global profiling of protein C-termini, the identification of C-termini is still far behind that of N-termini due to the lack of basic residue and low reactive carboxyl group. Therefore, an unbiased and complementary method for C-termini profiling is imperative. In this work, we developed a negative enrichment strategy to achieve the in-depth analysis of C-terminome. Proteins were firstly amidated to block carboxyl groups, followed by lysyl endoproteinase (LysC) digestion to generate C-terminal peptides with α-amines and internal peptides bearing both α- and ε-amines. After the α-amines were blocked by site-selective dimethylation or succinylation, the remaining ε-amines on internal peptides were labeled with phosphate groups. Finally, internal peptides were depleted by TiO2, leaving exclusively the fraction of C-terminal peptides for LC-MS/MS analysis. With Escherichia coli (E. coli) digests as the sample, the efficiency of amidation, dimethylation/succinylation, phosphate labeling and TiO2 depletion was proved high. With the combination of dimethyl and succinic blocking strategy, our method enabled the identification of 477 unique C-terminal peptides in E. coli. In comparison with the C-terminal amine-based isotope labeling of substrates (C-TAILS) method, 83 C-termini were identified by both methods, whereas 369 C-termini were unique to C-TAILS and 394 to our dataset. The method proposed is therefore efficient and possibly promotes the comprehensive profiling of C-termini. Graphical Abstract Negative isolation of C-terminal peptides with combination of site-selective blocking, phosphate labeling, and TiO2 adsorption.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To explore the immediate effects of Kinesio taping applied over the wrist extensors and flexors on muscle strength and endurance during isometric and isokinetic muscle actions. DESIGN: The study had a single-blinded, placebo control, and randomized design. METHODS: Fourteen trained male volunteers were required to complete 5s isometric maximal voluntary contractions and 50 consecutive maximal concentric wrist extension and flexion repetitions at each of two angular speeds (60°/s and 210°/s) in three taping conditions: Kinesio taping (KT), placebo taping (PT), and no taping (NT). RESULTS: KT did not improve peak moment, peak power, average power, and total work for wrist extensors and flexors in the isometric and isokinetic contractions. However, KT showed a 13% decrease in work fatigue of the wrist flexors compare to NT (p=0.014) at 60°/s. Furthermore, a 20% decrease was also observed in the rate of decline of moment (k) of the wrist flexors in KT compared to NT (p=0.007), and the k in PT was also significantly lower in magnitude compared to NT (p=0.035). Moreover, there was also a trend in terms of magnitudes for kKT
