OBJECTIVES: In diabetes, chronic hyperglycemia increases the overactivation of oxidative phosphorylation of mitochondria in the liver, resulting in oxidative stress (OS) damage. The Nrf2 signaling pathway plays a key role in preventing hepatic oxidative injury and inflammation. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Modified Buyang Huanwu Decoction (mBYHWD) on diabetic liver injury (DLI) by regulating oxidative stress mediated by Nrf2 signaling pathway. METHODS: The experiment was divided into three groups: a control group (db/m mice, Con), a diabetes model group (db/db mice, Mod), and a traditional Chinese medicine group (db/m mice, mBYHWD). Post-treatment, serum from each group was analyzed to assess changes of blood glucose, blood lipid, and liver function. These results were combined with data mining to explore the possible pathogenesis of DLI. Liver tissues were collected to observe the pathological morphology and detect related proteins. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that mBYHWD significantly reduced blood lipids and improved liver function following diabetic liver injury. The histopathological results demonstrated that mBYHWD could significantly ameliorate damage of diabetic hepatocytes. Protein analysis revealed that mBYHWD treatment significantly increased the expression of antioxidant proteins in diabetic liver tissue and inhibited inflammation. CONCLUSIONS: The therapeutic mechanism of mBYHWD on DLI may involve activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway to improve oxidative stress, inhibit inflammation, and reduce liver tissue fibrosis.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the early application of sacubitril valsartan sodium (LCZ696) following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and its impact on ventricular remodeling and the TGF-ß1/Smad3 signaling pathway in patients. Methods: The clinical data of 73 patients with AMI admitted to the hospital from June 2021 to September 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were grouped according to the treatment methods, including 36 cases in the control group (conventional drug treatment) and 37 cases in the observation group (conventional drug + LCZ696 treatment). The clinical efficacy, cardiac function parameters [left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), stroke volume (SV)], cardiac function biochemical indicators [N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), galectin 3 (Gal-3), amino-terminal peptide of type III procollagen (PIIINP)], ventricular remodeling indicators [left ventricular posterior wall end-diastolic thickness (PWD), posterior wall end-systolic thickness (PWS), ventricular septal end-systolic thickness (IVSS)], ventricular hydrodynamic parameters [left ventricular flow rate in peak ejection (FRPE), flow reversal rate (FRR), flow reversal interval (FRI)], TGF-ß 1/Smad3 signaling pathway-related indicators (TGF-ß1, Smad3), quality of life score (SF-36 Quality of Life Scale) and occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: The main findings of the study are as follows: The observation group was significantly better than the control group in many aspects such as overall clinical effectiveness, cardiac function parameters, biochemical indicators, ventricular structure and function, TGF-ß1/Smad3 signaling pathway, and quality of life. Specifically, the observation group showed more significant positive effects in terms of improvement of cardiac function, adjustment of biochemical status, and adjustment of ventricular structure and fluid dynamics parameters. These results provide strong support for the application of new therapeutic approaches in the management of cardiovascular disease. After treatment, the total clinical effective rate in the observation group (89.19%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (69.44%) (P < .05). LVEF and SV in the two groups were significantly increased (P < .05), while LVEDD was significantly decreased (P < .05), and there were statistically significant differences in parameters between the two groups (P < .05). The levels of NT-proBNP, Gal-3 and PIIINP in both groups were significantly reduced (P < .05), and the levels in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < .05). The PWD, PWS and IVSS in both groups significantly declined (P < .05), and the indicators in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < .05). The FRPE and FRR in the two groups were significantly enhanced (P < .05), while the FRI was significantly reduced (P < .05), and the differences in the above parameters between the two groups were statistically significant (P < .05). The levels of TGF-ß1 and Smad3 in the two groups were significantly declined (P < .05), and the levels in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < .05). During the period from before treatment to 6 months of treatment, the quality of life score in the two groups showed a significant downward trend (P < .05), and the score in the observation group after 3 months to 6 months of treatment was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < .05). During treatment, there was no statistical significance in the total incidence rate of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > .05). Conclusion: Early application of LCZ696 after AMI has a significant efficacy, and it can effectively improve the ventricular remodeling, regulate the expression levels of TGF-ß1 and Smad3, inhibit the TGF-ß1/Smad3 signaling pathway, promote the improvements of cardiac function and quality of life, and it has good safety and is worthy of clinical promotion and application. The study's key findings have important clinical implications for understanding and managing acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The observation group showed significant improvements in overall clinical efficacy, cardiac function, biochemical status, ventricular structure and function, etc., providing strong evidence for comprehensive treatment of AMI patients. This treatment method is expected to become an important part of the care and treatment strategy for AMI patients, help reduce cardiovascular risk, improve quality of life, and provide new research directions for future AMI treatment.

Taxanes are the best-known compounds in Taxus cuspidata owing to their strong anticancer effects. However, the traditional taxanes extraction method is the solid-liquid extraction method, which is limited by a large energy consumption and low yield. Therefore, it is urgent to find an efficient method for taxanes extraction. The ultrasonic microwave synergistic extraction (UME) method integrates the cavitation effect of ultrasound and the intensifying heat transfer (ionic conduction and dipole rotation of molecules) effect of microwave to accelerate the release of intracellular compounds and is used in active ingredient extractions. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of UME in extracting taxanes from T. cuspidata needles (dichloromethane-ethanol as extractant). A single-factor experiment, Plackett-Burman design, and the response surface method showed that the optimal UME parameters for taxanes extraction were an ultrasonic power of 300 W, a microwave power of 215 W, and 130 sieve meshes. Under these conditions, the taxanes yield was 570.32 µg/g, which increased by 13.41% and 41.63% compared with the ultrasound (US) and microwave (MW) treatments, respectively. The reasons for the differences in the taxanes yield were revealed by comparing the physicochemical properties of T. cuspidata residues after the UME, US, and MW treatments. The cell structures were significantly damaged after the UME treatment, and numerous tiny holes were observed on the surface. The absorption peaks of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin increased significantly in intensity, and the lowest peak temperature (307.40 °C), with a melting enthalpy of -5.19 J/g, was found after the UME treatment compared with the US and MW treatments. These results demonstrate that UME is an effective method (570.32 µg/g) to extract taxanes from T. cuspidata needles by destroying cellular structures.

AIMS: Cnidii Fructus (CF) is known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor properties, as well as its activities against kidney deficiency and impotence. In this study, we aimed to explore the anti-CRC cancer effect and molecular mechanism of CF via network pharmacology and in vitro antitumor experiments. METHODS: Network pharmacology was used to investigate the anti-CRC mechanism of CF. First, a series of databases was used to screen the active phytochemical targets and anti-CRC core targets. Then, the GO and KEGG pathways were analyzed to predict possible mechanisms. Molecular docking analysis explore core targets-phytochemicals interactions. In vitro antitumor experiments were carried on verifying anti-CRC mechanism of CF. RESULTS: In this study, 20 active ingredient targets and 50 intersecting targets were analyzed by Cytoscape software 3.9.1 to obtain the core genes and phytochemicals. Then, the GO and KEGG pathways of 50 intersecting targets were analyzed to predict possible mechanisms. The results from GO and KEGG indicated that CF has significant antitumor efficacy, which involves many signaling pathways, such as PI3K/AKT and p53. The five core targets and five core phytochemicals were screened for molecular docking to show protein-ligand interactions. According to the results of molecular docking, the compound O-acetylcolumbianetin was selected for the anti- CRC functional verification in vitro. MTT assay showed that O-acetylcolumbianetin significantly inhibited the proliferation of colorectal HCT116 cells in a time- and quantity-dependent manner. O-acetylcolumbianetin can promote the expression of CASP3 protein, induce HCT116 cells apoptosis, thus exert anti-CRC effect. CONCLUSION: This study preliminarily verified the anti-CRC effect and molecular mechanism of CF and provided a reference for Traditional Chinese Medicine anti-tumor subsequent research.

SCOPE: Colonic mucosal healing is the terminal goal for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC), but there is currently no specific drug available. This study investigates the beneficial effect of diallyl trisulfide (DATS) on the colonic mucosal healing. METHODS AND RESULTS: Dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) is used to induce colitis in female C57BL/6 mice, and DATS is orally administered during the recovery period. DATS hardly impacts the inflammation of the colonic tissues, but significantly promotes the mucosal repair. DATS promotes the migration but not proliferation of colonic epithelial cells in the colitis mice. In addition, DATS accelerates the wound healing, cell migration, focal adhesion assembly, and phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) of colonic epithelial cells in vitro, which are evidently reversed by combined use of FAK inhibitor PF-573228. Similar results are shown in colitis mice. Mechanically, DATS promotes the binding of Rab21 to integrin ß1 and accelerates the endocytosis of integrin ß1, which is significantly attenuated by the knockdown of Rab21. CONCLUSIONS: DATS promotes the binding of Rab21 to integrin ß1 and the endocytosis of integrin ß1, thereby increases FAK phosphorylation and focal adhesion assembly, finally accelerates the migration of colonic epithelial cells and mucosal healing.

Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) genes play vital roles in developmental control and environmental stress tolerance in sessile plants by modulating the organic acid-malic acid level. However, MDH genes have not yet been characterized in gymnosperm, and their roles in nutrient deficiency are largely unexplored. In this study, 12 MDH genes were identified in Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata), namely, ClMDH-1, -2, -3, …, and -12. Chinese fir is one of the most abundant commercial timber trees in China, and low phosphorus has limited its growth and production due to the acidic soil of southern China. According to the phylogenetic analysis, MDH genes were classified into five groups, and Group 2 genes (ClMDH-7, -8, -9, and 10) were only found to be present in Chinese fir but not in Arabidopsis thaliana and Populus trichocarpa. In particular, the Group 2 MDHs also had specific functional domains-Ldh_1_N (malidase NAD-binding functional domain) and Ldh_1_C (malate enzyme C-terminal functional domain)-indicating a specific function of ClMDHs in the accumulation of malate. All ClMDH genes contained the conserved MDH gene characteristic functional domains Ldh_1_N and Ldh_1_C, and all ClMDH proteins exhibited similar structures. Twelve ClMDH genes were identified from eight chromosomes, involving fifteen ClMDH homologous gene pairs, each with a Ka/Ks ratio of <1. The analysis of cis-elements, protein interactions, and transcription factor interactions of MDHs showed that the ClMDH gene might play a role in plant growth and development, and in response to stress mechanisms. The results of transcriptome data and qRT-PCR validation based on low-phosphorus stress showed that ClMDH1, ClMDH6, ClMDH7, ClMDH2, ClMDH4, ClMDH5, ClMDH10 and ClMDH11 were upregulated under low-phosphorus stress and played a role in the response of fir to low-phosphorus stress. In conclusion, these findings lay a foundation for further improving the genetic mechanism of the ClMDH gene family in response to low-phosphorus stress, exploring the potential function of this gene, promoting the improvement of fir genetics and breeding, and improving production efficiency.

PURPOSE: Warm acupuncture (WA) therapy has been applied to treat spinal cord injury (SCI), but the underlying mechanism is unclear. The current study attempted to explore the WA therapy on neuronal apoptosis of SCI and the relationship with the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway. METHODS: The rat SCI models were established by the impact method. SCI rat models were subjected to WA treatment at Dazhui (GV14) and Jiaji points (T10), Yaoyangguan (GV3), Zusanli (ST36), and Ciliao (BL32). The rat SCI models were established by the impact method. WA and U0126 treatments were performed on the SCI rats. Motor function and neuronal apoptosis were detected. The relative mRNA of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), the phosphorylation level of ERK 1/2 and levels of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), BCL2-Associated X (Bax), and caspase-3 in spinal cord tissue were tested. RESULTS: After WA treatment, the Basso, Beattie & Bresnahan locomotor rating scale (BBB scale) of SCI rats in the WA treatment was significantly raised from 7 to 14 days after SCI. WA and U0126 treatment significantly diminished apoptotic cells and preserved the neurons in the injured spinal cord. WA and U0126 treatment alleviated the production of inflammatory cytokines in the spinal cord. The distinct increase of p-ERK 1/2 induced by SCI was reversed in WA and U0126 treatment groups. WA and U0126 treatment augmented the level of Bcl-2 and reversed the elevated cleaved caspase-3 protein level after SCI. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that WA might be associated with the downregulation of the ERK signaling pathway. In summary, our findings indicated that WA promotes the recovery of SCI via the protection of nerve cells and the prevention of apoptosis. Meanwhile, the anti-apoptotic effect of WA might be associated with the downregulation of the ERK signaling pathway, which could be one of the mechanisms of WA in the treatment of SCI.

Background: Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world. End-stage renal disease (ESRD) caused by diabetes is the most serious long-term complication. The main cause of death in patients with simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPKT) is cardiovascular disease. Although dexmedetomidine (Dex) has unique advantages in heart protection against ischaemic/reperfusion injury, few clinical studies have been conducted on its cardioprotective effect in SPKT. This study aimed to explore the influence of Dex on myocardial injury in patients undergoing SPKT and to analyze its possible mechanism. Methods: A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was performed from July 1, 2018 to December 1, 2020. Eighty patients, regardless of gender, scheduled for SPKT were randomly allocated into a Dex group (D group) receiving Dex at a rate of 1 µg/kg for 10 minutes before anaesthesia induction and then continuous infusion at 0.5 µg/kg/hour until the end of surgery and control group (C group) receiving equivalent capacity of saline. Serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI), creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were recorded at 5 minutes after anaesthesia induction (baseline,T0), 5 minutes before renal arteriovenous opening (T1), 30 minutes after renal arteriovenous opening (T2), 30 minutes after pancreatic related arteriovenous opening (T3), immediately after surgery (T4), 4 hours after surgery (T5), and 24 hours after surgery (T6). Adverse cardiovascular events were recorded during the perioperative period. Changes in ECG S-T segments and T waves were monitored at T0-T6. Myocardial infarction and percutaneous coronary intervention were recorded with an average follow-up of one year. Results: Compared with T0, TNF-α and IL-6 concentrations significantly increased at T1-T6 in the C and D groups (P < 0.05). IL-6 concentration increased significantly after renal artery opening and reached the peak after the opening of pancreatic blood vessels. Compared with the C group, TNF-α, and IL-6 concentrations were significantly reduced in group D at T2-T6 (P < 0.05). Compared with T0, cTnI and CK-MB concentrations were significantly increased at T3-T6 in the C and D groups (P < 0.05). cTnI and CK-MB concentrations increased significantly after the opening of renal artery, and reached the peak after the opening of pancreatic blood vessels. Compared with the C group, cTnI and CK-MB concentrations were significantly reduced in the D group at T3-T6 (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in patient characteristics amongst groups, including the proportion of intraoperative vasoactive drug use and adverse cardiovascular events during the follow-up period. Heart rate, mean blood pressure, central venous pressure, and cardiac output were not remarkably different between the two groups at any time point. Conclusions: Perioperative reperfusion could aggravate myocardial injury in SPKT. Dex may be considered a way to reduce myocardial injury caused by inflammatory action by decreasing the release of inflammatory factors. BACKGROUND: To investigate the protective effect of electroacupuncture combined with dexmedetomidine (EA + Dex) on oxidative stress injury in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) rats. METHODS: A total of 50 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: sham operation (sham group); I/R group; dexmedetomidine group (Dex group); electroacupuncture group (EA group); and EA + Dex group. The myocardial I/R model was established. The EA group received EA at the Neiguan acupoint [pericardium 6 (PC6)] every day for 1 week before modeling. Rats in the EA + Dex group received EA at PC6 every day for 1 week before modeling, and intraperitoneal injection of Dex was performed 15 minutes before modeling. Dex was injected intraperitoneally in the Dex group 15 minutes before modeling. The rats were sacrificed 1 hour after reperfusion, and myocardial tissue was obtained to measure the myocardial infarction area. The myocardial tissue pathologic changes were shown by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, and the superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) content in serum was determined. RESULTS: Compared with the sham group, the myocardial infarction area was significantly increased (P<0.01), SOD and ATP content was significantly decreased (P<0.01), and MDA and ROS content was significantly increased (P<0.01) in the I/R group; this change was significantly reduced in the Dex, EA, and EA + Dex groups (P<0.01). The indicators in the EA + Dex group were better than those in the EA and Dex groups (P<0.05). There was no significant change in the above indices in the Dex group compared with the EA group (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: EA + Dex pretreatment improved the damage of myocardial I/R by increasing SOD and ATP content and reducing the generation of MDA and ROS in an oxygen-free radical system.

Chrysanthemi Indici Flos(CIF), the capitulum of Chrysanthemum indicum, is widely used in proprietary Chinese medicine and daily chemical products. At present, CIF is mainly produced from wild resources and rarely cultivated. This study aims to reveal the correlations between linarin content in CIF and climatic factors in different habitats, and provide a theoretical basis for suitable zoning and rational production of medicinal materials. The content of linarin in CIF was determined by HPLC. Grey relational analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were carried out for linarin content with climatic factors. The results showed that the content of linarin in CIF was significantly different among different habitats. The grey relational degrees of climatic factors with linarin content was in an order of average annual precipitation>annual average sunshine hours>annual average temperature>longitude>annual frost-free period>latitude>altitude. Longitude, annual average temperature and average annual precipitation had significantly positive correlations with the content of linarin in CIF, whereas latitude and altitude showed negative correlations with it. The annual frost-free period and annual average sunshine hours had no significant correlation with the content of linarin in CIF. The content of linarin in CIF varied significantly in different habitats. High longitude, low latitude, low altitude, high annual average temperature and high annual average precipitation could be used as indicators for the habitats of high-quality Ch. indicum. This study provides a reference for selecting suitable producing areas of Ch. indicum and establishing artificial cultivation system.

Diterpenoids jolkinolide A and B, were first isolated from Euphorbia fischeriana. In our previous research, 19-(Benzyloxy)-19-oxojolkinolide B (19-BJB), a derivative of jolkinolides, was synthesized as a novel ent -abietane diterpene diepoxide. In this study, 19-BJB showed strong in vitro activity against bladder cancer cell lines. DNA damage which was observed through the interaction of 19-BJB with nucleotide chains and affected DNA repair resulted in the activation of checkpoint kinase 1 (Chk1) and checkpoint kinase 2 (Chk2) in bladder cancer cell lines. In vivo testing in nude mice also proved that 19-BJB revealed a potential inhibitory effect on tumor growth. Additionally, the 3D-QSAR models of jolkinolides were established. Briefly, we proved that 19-BJB could potentially be used as a drug to inhibit the growth of bladder tumor.

BACKGROUND: Poststroke depression (PSD) is a severe problem; it will significantly increase the mortality of patients after stroke, and affect the quality of life of patients after discharge. For stroke patients without noticeable adverse reactions, massage can effectively improve the patient's mood, thereby treating poststroke depression. But so far, there is still no systematic research to provide reliable evidence that massage can effectively treat poststroke depression. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to comprehensively summarize and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of massage therapy for poststroke depression. METHODS: We conduct a detailed search regardless of publication grade and language status. The search databases include the Web of Science, the Cochrane Library search, EMBASE, PubMed, CNKI, Chinese biomedical literature database, Chongqing VIP, and Wanfang. All randomized controlled trials and cohort studies on massage therapy for poststroke depression are published, as of November 15, 2020. The team consists of 2 experienced researchers who will select the retrieved documents and extract data. Later they used RevMan V.5.3 software for data analysis and data synthesis. RESULTS: The effectiveness and safety of massage therapy intended for poststroke depression will be subject to a systematic evaluation under this program. CONCLUSION: It will be substantiated in this review whether massage therapy is a reliable intervention for poststroke depression by examining the evidence collected. Oral administration of curcumin has been shown to inhibit pulmonary fibrosis (PF) despite its extremely low bioavailability. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the anti-PF effect of curcumin in focus on intestinal endocrine. In bleomycin- and SiO2-treated mice, curcumin (75, 150 mg· kg-1 per day) exerted dose-dependent anti-PF effect when administered orally or rectally but not intravenously, implying an intestinal route was involved in the action of curcumin. We speculated that curcumin might promote the generation of gut-derived factors and the latter acted as a mediator subsequently entering the lungs to ameliorate fibrosis. We showed that oral administration of curcumin indeed significantly increased the expression of gut-derived hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in colon tissues. Furthermore, in bleomycin-treated mice, the upregulated protein level of HGF in lungs by oral curcumin was highly correlated with its anti-PF effect, which was further confirmed by coadministration of c-Met inhibitor SU11274. Curcumin (5-40 µM) dose-dependently increased HGF expression in primary mouse fibroblasts, macrophages, CCD-18Co cells (fibroblast cell line), and RAW264.7 cells (monocyte-macrophage cell line), but not in primary colonic epithelial cells. In CCD-18Co cells and RAW264.7 cells, curcumin dose-dependently activated PPARγ and CREB, whereas PPARγ antagonist GW9662 (1 µM) or cAMP response element (CREB) inhibitor KG-501 (10 µM) significantly decreased the boosting effect of curcumin on HGF expression. Finally, we revealed that curcumin dose-dependently increased the production of 15-deoxy-Δ12, 14-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) in CCD-18Co cells and RAW264.7 cells, which was a common upstream of the two transcription factors. Moreover, both the in vitro and in vivo effects of curcumin were diminished by coadministration of HPGDS-inhibitor-1, an inhibitor of 15d-PGJ2 generation. Together, curcumin promotes the expression of HGF in colonic fibroblasts and macrophages by activating PPARγ and CREB via an induction of 15d-PGJ2, and the HGF enters the lungs giving rise to an anti-PF effect.

BACKGROUND: : Post-stroke insomnia (PSI) is a serious problem which has significant adverse effects on the subsequent recovery of patients and the quality of their daily life. Massage is effective in improving the quality of sleep for stroke patients displaying no significant adverse reactions. Up to now, however, there are still no systematic studies conducted to provide compelling evidence for its effectiveness in treating PSI. Allowing for this, this project is purposed to make a thorough summary of the efficacy of massage therapy in treating PSI and the safety of this practice. METHODS: : Without considering the status of publication and language, a meticulous search will be conducted, covering the Web of Science, the Cochrane Library search, PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese biomedical literature database, Chongqing VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang. All randomized controlled trials of PSI will be retrieved. The deadline is set as October 23, 2020. The team will be comprised of 2 experienced researchers who will apply RevMan V.5.3 software to conduct literature selection, data collection, data analysis, and data synthesis, respectively. In addition, the Cochrane risk Assessment tool will be taken as the top choice to evaluate the quality of the trials involved in this study. RESULTS: : The effectiveness and safety of massage therapy intended for PSI will be subject to a systematic evaluation under this program. CONCLUSION: : It will be substantiated in this review whether massage therapy is a reliable intervention for PSI by examining the evidence collected.

BACKGROUND: and purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of applying a partially randomized patients' preference (PRPP) trial in the clinical evaluation of acupuncture versus cupping therapy for fibromyalgia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The final study included 126 participants. Participants without a treatment modality preference were randomly assigned to either the cupping therapy group or the acupuncture group. Patients with strong preferences were assigned to their treatment modality of choice. Ashi points were used for treatment. Outcome measures were both qualitative (patient expectation and satisfaction) and quantitative (drop-out rate, pain intensity, quality of life, depression assessment). RESULTS: The recruitment of the non-randomized participants was completed 8 months before the randomized participants were recruited. There was no statistical difference related to the grouping method in the adjusted drop-out rate, patient expectation, and satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The PRPP model is suitable for use in the clinical evaluation of non-pharmaceutical therapies.

BACKGROUND: Restless legs syndrome (RLS), known as a kind of neurological disease, is prevalent but easy to be ignored. Studies have demonstrated that massage therapy can effectively reduce the symptoms of patients with RLS and improve their quality of life. However, the efficacy of massage therapy for RLS is still controversial. Therefore, this protocol aims to evaluate the reliability of massage therapy in treating RLS in a thorough way. METHODS: We will search relevant randomized controlled trials from Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chongqing VIP, CNKI, Wanfang, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and EMBASE, when publication status and language are not considered and the time limit ends with September 6, 2020. Two experienced researchers will use RevMan V.5.3 software to perform the selection of literature, data collection, data analysis and synthesis separately. Besides, the quality of trials involved in this study will be measured with the Cochrane bias risk assessment tool. RESULTS: This protocol will be applied to carry out a systematic evaluation of the massage therapy purposed to treat RLS for its effectiveness and safety. CONCLUSION: The review will provide a credible evidence suggesting whether massage therapy is a reliable intervention for RLS. INPLASY REGISTRATION NUMBER: INPLASY202090038.

INTRODUCTION: Little is known of acupuncture patients' experiences and opinions of clinical trials, and what may influence their compliance when participating in an acupuncture trial. OBJECTIVES: To explore the potential factors that influence patients' choice and determinants to participate in acupuncture clinical trials. METHODS: Ten qualitative, in-depth interviews were conducted with patients from acupuncture clinics in Beijing, who had previously participated in acupuncture clinical trials. RESULTS: Four main themes emerged from the interview data: effectiveness of the treatment, convenience of participating in a trial, doctor-participant communication, and participant acceptance of the treatment (or the trial). Effectiveness of acupuncture in treating the health condition was the most important factor for participant adherence. Pragmatics of treatment schedules, travel and attendance burden, together with confidence in the doctor's ability additionally influenced trial and treatment compliance. CONCLUSIONS: In-depth interviews suggest that treatment effectiveness, the pragmatics of attending treatment sessions, and the expertise and attitudes of acupuncturists are determining factors of participation and compliance in acupuncture clinical trials. Participants' confidence in, and expectation of, acupuncture may facilitate compliance, while their fear of acupuncture and negative perceptions of the trial's purpose may reduce treatment compliance. Compliance may be facilitated by enhanced doctor-patient communication, personalized treatment programs, and feedback on treatment outcomes.

To provide theoretical basis for the formation of Chrysanthemum indicum resource and quality,the differences in biology,ecology,yield and quality of Ch. indicum population in the wild tending,the cultivated and the wild were analyzed and compared in this study. The results showed that in the aspect of biology,there was no significant difference between the condition of wild tending and cultivated Ch. indicum at the height of plant,both were significantly higher than wild Ch. indicum. In the aspect of ecology,in the condition of wild tending is less likely to occur water logging than cultivated Ch. indicum. In the condition of wild tending is less likely to occur plant diseases and insect pests than Ch. indicum in the condition of wild. In the aspect of production,the average output of the sample of the condition of wild tending was significantly higher than that the condition of artificial cultivation and wild quadrat. There was no significant difference between the three kinds of condition on the traits of capitulum dichasium,the content of buddleoside of the wild tending Ch. indicum was significantly higher than that of 0. 80% required by the Chinese Pharmacopoeia( 2015 edition). Therefore,the artificial supplement and the appropriate artificial management of wild tending is a mode of production to increase the population density of Ch. indicum and obtain high quality and high yield medicinal materials.

The Cd stress of Chrysanthemum indicum was treated by different concentrations of Cd Cl2 solution in the culture substrate. The content of Cd in different parts of Ch. indicum and the content of buddleoside and the total flavonoids in Ch. indicum were determined. The absorption characteristics of Cd elements in Ch. indicum were analyzed. And the influence of Cd elements on the quality of the herbs. The results showed that the application of soil Cd in the range of 0-100 mg·kg~(-1) had no significant effect on the biomass of Ch. indicum,and the root-shoot ratio showed a decreasing-increasing-decreasing trend. The content of Cd in different parts of Ch. indicum was significantly different,and the content of aboveground part was higher than that of underground part. The enrichment factors of Cd elements in different parts of Ch. indicum are different. The enrichment coefficient of aboveground parts is larger than that of underground parts. The whole parts and plants show an increase first and then decrease,and the overall enrichment factor is greater than1. The transfer coefficient of the aerial part/underground part of Ch. indicum showed a decreasing-increasing-decreasing-increasing trend with the increase of the amount of Cd applied in the soil,and the transfer coefficient was higher than 1. The contents of buddleoside and total flavonoids in Ch. indicum after Cd stress treatment were lower than the control,and the overall performance was lower and then increased,but it was still significantly lower than the control,indicating that Cd pollution directly led to the decrease of chemical quality of Ch. indicum.

DNA barcode technology was used to establish a rapid identification method of Chrysanthemum indicum and Ch. morifolium based on psbA-trn H,mat K and trn L sequences. The total DNA was extracted from 21 samples collected,and the psbA-trn H,mat K,trn L sequences were amplified by PCR and sequenced. The information of these sequences were obtained. We aligned all 63 sequences,calculated the intraspecific and interspecific distances,analysed the SNPs distribution of psbA-trn H+mat K+trn L combination sequences and constructed the Neighbor-joining( NJ) Tree,using MEGA 7. 0. The results showed that the genetic distances of Ch. indicum,Ch. indicum( Juhuanao)and Ch. morifolium were overlapped. The SNPs analysis of psbA-trn H+mat K+trn L combination sequences showed that there were 19 nucleotide polymorphism loci( SNPs) and nine parsim-informative sites in the combination sequences. In addition,Ch. indicum showed more obvious sequence polymorphism than those of Ch. indicum( Juhuanao) and Ch. morifolium. The psbA-trn H sequences showed obvious length variation.The NJ Tree showed that Ch. morifolium numbered C2-C5 were clustered into a single subbranch with a bootstrap value of 62%,and Ch.morifolium could be distinguished from Ch. indicum and Ch. indicum( Juhuanao). Moreover,Ch. indicum numbered Z9 and Z10 collected from Gansu province were singly clustered into one branch with a bootstrap value of 77%. It was also found that the changes of psbA-trn H and trn L sequences information of Ch. indicum samples from the northwest were obviously related to the geography and environment. Moreover,Ch.indicum and Ch. indicum( Juhuanao) had obvious differentiation,were also regarded as the evolutionary sources of Ch. morifolium. Therefore,psbA-trn H+mat K+trn L combination sequences as DNA barcode can identify Ch. indicum and Ch. morifolium accurately and rapidly,which provides an important basis for germplasm resources identification and species identification.
