RESUMEN

The content of total polar material (TPM) is considered as a comprehensive indicator to evaluate the quality of edible oils which should be discarded and no longer be used when TPM content exceeding 27 %. Nevertheless, there is currently a lack of a convenient and efficient TPM detection method, which is a meaningful challenge. With the increase of TPM content, the viscosity of frying oil grows, and the two maintain a satisfactory positive correlation. Consequently, an "off-on" fluorescence probe TCF-PR method based on viscosity-response has been developed. There exists a good linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity of the probe and the TPM content of soybean oil ((R2 = 0.9936) and salad oil (R2 = 0.9878), accompanying with the advantage of fast response (3 s), which means the rapid detection of TPM can be realized to determine the quality of frying oil in the field of food safety.

Ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in humans. Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CIR) injury serves as a leading cause of stroke. Schisandra chinensis is a well-known Chinese traditional medicine. In this study, we explored the role of Gomisin J (GJ), a compound of S. chinensis, in CIR using a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion rat model and the possible mechanisms. We identified that GJ reduced neurological scores, cerebral infarction, and water content in the I/R rat brain. Importantly, GJ rescued I/R treatment-reduced neuron survival in the hippocampus, inhibited apoptosis of ischemic tissues in I/R rats, increased B-cell lymphoma-extra-large (Bcl-XL) expression, and reduced the levels of cleaved caspase-3, Bax, cyclooxygenase-2, nuclear factor kappa-B, and nitric oxide in I/R rat brain tissues. Furthermore, GJ treatment enhanced nuclear factor E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) translocation, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities, and glutathione level. Overall, GJ treatment GJ attenuates CIR injury by inducing anti-apoptotic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects in vivo.

RESUMEN

The phosphorus activation coefficient (PAC, the ratio of available P to total P) is an important indicator of soil P availability and the transformation of P fractions. Understanding the details of the PAC is useful to estimate soil available P status and to provide P management guidance. In this research, soils from five long-term (23 years) fertilization treatments in three croplands were selected to examine the relationships between the PAC and P fractions and to analyse the influencing factors. PAC was affected by both soil types and fertilization treatments. Compared to the unfertilized control (CK) treatment, long-term P application significantly increased the PAC, all of the inorganic P (Pi) fractions and most of the organic P (Po) fractions in all the three soils, particularly in chemical fertilizer combined with manure treatment (NPKM). The PAC was significantly correlated to all of the Pi fractions proportions (P<0.05) except for Dil. HCl-Pi and Conc. HCl-Pi. Compared with CK, the chemical P and chemical P combined with manure treatments increased the ratio of total Pi fractions to total Po fractions (Pit/Pot); furthermore, NPKM significantly increased the organic C (Co) content and decreased the Co/Pot ratio. Stepwise multiple regressions showed that PAC = 0.93 Co+0.69 Pit/Pot-0.07 Co/Pot-0.27CaCO3-3.79 (R2 = 0.924, P<0.001). In addition, the variance partitioning analysis showed that more variance of PAC is explained by soil factors (29.53%) than by P input (0.19%) and climate (0.25%) factors. Our findings demonstrate that P application increased the PAC by changing the Co content and the proportion of P fractions. Moreover, soil factors were the most important drivers of P transformations, and NPKM was optimal for improving soil fertility in Chinese croplands.
