RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Cases of bilateral acute angle closure have been reported after use of various drugs. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 52-year-old woman visited the emergency room and complained of acute bilateral ocular pain and decreased vision accompanied by headache, nausea, and vomiting. One day before, she had started a herbal medicine containing Ma-huang for weight loss. On examinations, myopic shift, edematous cornea, increased intraocular pressure, shallow anterior chamber, and thickened choroid on both eyes were observed. DIAGNOSES: Angle closure glaucoma induced by drug (Ma-huang). INTERVENTIONS: To promptly quit the offending drug and apply ocular hypotensives and cycloplegics. OUTCOMES: Her symptoms and signs were relieved after antiglaucoma medications and no significant recurrence has been occurred. LESSONS: Physicians prescribing weight loss medications containing Ma-huang must be aware of the potentially sight-threatening adverse effect of bilateral acute angle closure.

RESUMEN

CASO CLÍNICO: Miope magna con cámara anterior estrecha que presentó cierre angular secundario a lorazepam. DISCUSIÓN: El cierre angular generalmente ocurre en pacientes predispuestos desencadenado por factores precipitantes. Muchos fármacos de uso rutinario en la práctica clínica podrían ejercer como factor responsable del cierre angular secundario


CASE REPORT: Myopic magna with narrow anterior chamber that presented with a secondary angle closure due to lorazepam. DISCUSSION: Angle closure usually occurs in predisposed patients and is triggered by precipitating factors. Many drugs routinely used in clinical practice could act as a factor responsible for the secondary angle closure

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To reveal ultrastructural features of iridociliary vessels after biopuncture with antihomotoxic medicine. METHODS: Myopia model was created on 10 rabbits by injecting all trans-retinoic acid in catheter Vasofix Certo 24G in left internal carotid artery until we got low myopia. After six months of daily injections all rabbits had myopia from -2,0 to 3,0 D. Animals were separated into two groups: 5 rabbits with daily intradermal injection in three points of upper eye lid without medicine during 10 days and 5 rabbits with daily intradermal injection in three points of upper eye lid with Cerebrum Compositum N during 10 days. Morphology of iridociliary system was explored. RESULTS: Biopuncture in myopia model increases level of metabolic reactions in iridociliary system, supplies adaptive reserves by the hemodynamic enrichment of ciliary body vessels and balance of autonomic nervous system impulsation.

RESUMEN

We have reported the development of 1.6 diopters of myopia in a group of patients exposed to reptitive oxygen breathing at two atmospheres absolute pressure. No significant change in corneal curvature accompanied this refractive change. During the three months following termination of the hyperoxic exposure, the myopia gradually disappeared. It is speculated that hyperoxygenation alters the metabolism of the adult lens producing an increase in its dioptric power.
