RESUMO

Oxyresveratrol is one of the active ingredients derived from mulberry branch with strong anti-inflammatory bioactivity. In this research, we want to explore if oxyresveratrol can improve cognitive impairments and episodic-like memory and its mechanism. In LPS-induced BV-2 cells, 25 µM OXY can significantly inhibit the expression of NO and alter the M1/M2 polarization by regulating M1/M2 phenotype makers. In vivo, OXY (50, 100 mg/kg) significantly reversed cognitive impairments and alleviated neuronal injuries caused by neuroinflammation. According to network pharmacology analysis, OXY alleviated neuroinflammation via the PI3K-Akt pathway. In general, the research revealed that OXY can improve cognitive impairments and episodic-like memory through alleviating LPS-induced neuroinflammation and regulating the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Multi-active food packaging was prepared for strawberry fruit preservation where epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-containing pectin matrix and natamycin (NATA)-containing chitosan (CS) matrix were utilized to complete LBL electrostatic self-assembly. The results showed that the physicochemical properties of the multi-active packaging were closely related to the addition of NATA and EGCG. It was found that NATA and EGCG were embedded in the CS/pectin matrix through intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The CN/PE 15 % multi-active films prepared based on the spectral stacking theory formed a barrier to UV light in the outer layer, exhibited excellent NATA protection under UV light exposure conditions at different times, and provided long-lasting and sustained bacterial inhibition in the inner layer. In addition, the CN/PE 15 % multi-active packaging extended the shelf life of strawberry at room temperature compared with the control samples. In conclusion, the developed CN/PE 15 % packaging provided potential applications for multi-active food packaging materials.

RESUMO

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of addition and subtraction therapy of Jinkui Shenqiwan combined with Buzhong Yiqitang to postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO) with deficiency of spleen and kidney, and to investigate its regulation effect on immune inflammatory factors. Method:One hundred and sixty patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 80 cases in each group. Both groups got comprehensive western medicine treatment measures. Patients in control group additionally got Zhuanggu Zhitong capsule, 4 capsules/time, 3 times/day. Patients in observation group additionally got addition and subtraction therapy of Jinkui Shenqiwan combined with Buzhong Yiqitang, 1 dose/day. The treatment was continued for 24 weeks. Before and after treatment, lumbar L2-4 bone mineral density (BMD) was detected by Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and lumbar BMD was detected by quantitative CT (QCT). Scores of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndromes and Chinese osteoporosis-targeted quality of life questionnaire (COQOL) were graded. Levels of Estradiol (E2), type Ⅰ procollagen amino terminal pro peptide (PINP), serum osteocalcin (OC), osteoprotegerin (OPG), type Ⅰ collagen cross-linked C-terminal peptide (S-CTX), tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) and urinary pyridinoline (PYD) were detected. Levels of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, interleukin-17 (IL-17), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), γ-interferon(IFN-γ) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) were calculated. The proportion of T helper cell (Th)17 and regulatory T cell (Treg) in CD4+ T cells was calculated. Besides, the safety was evaluated. Result:Bone density was detected by DXA in observation group, and its T-value and bone density detected by QCT were all higher than those in control group (P<0.01). After treatment, scores of TCM syndrome and COQOL were lower than those in control group (P<0.01). Levels of PINP, OC, S-CTX, TRACP and PYD/Cr were all lower than those in control group (P<0.01). Levels of OPG, CD8+ and Treg were higher than those in control group (P<0.05), levels of Th17, Th17/Treg, CD4+/CD8+, IL-17, TNF-α and IFN-γ were lower (P<0.01), and levels of IL-4 and E2 were higher than those in control group (P<0.01). The clinical efficacy in observation group was better than that in control group (Z=2.103, P<0.05). Conclusion:On the basis of calcium and vitamin D supplementation, Jinkui Shenqiwan combined with Buzhong Yiqitang can improve levels of E2 and bone density, reduce clinical symptoms, improve quality of life, regulate bone metabolism index and immune inflammation reaction, with better clinical efficacy and safety.

RESUMO

Ferulic acid (FA) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA) are main phenolic compounds accumulated in rhizosphere of continuously cropped cucumber, causing stress in plants. Microbial degradation of a mixture of FA and PHBA is not well understood in soil. We isolated a strain CSY-P13 of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, inoculated it into soil to protect cucumber from FA and PHBA stress, and explored a mechanism underlying the protection. CSY-P13 effectively degraded a mixture of FA and PHBA in culture solution under conditions of 39.37°C, pH 6.97, and 21.59 g L-1 potassium dihydrogen phosphate, giving rise to 4-vinyl guaiacol, vanillin, vanillic acid, and protocatechuic acid. During FA and PHBA degradation, activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and dehydroascorbate reductase in CSY-P13 were induced. Inoculated into cucumber-planted soil containing 220 µg g-1 mixture of FA and PHBA, CSY-P13 degraded FA and PHBA in soil, increased plant height, and decreased malonaldehyde, superoxide radical, and hydrogen peroxide levels in leaves. CSY-P13 also enhanced SOD, guaiacol peroxidase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase, monodehydroascorbate reductase, dehydroascorbate reductase, and glutathione reductase activities; increased ascorbate and glutathione contents; and elevated transcript levels of copper/zinc SOD, manganese SOD, and catalase in leaves under FA and PHBA. Moreover, CSY-P13 increased phosphatase, catalase, urease, and sucrase activities and changed bacterial richness, diversity, and community composition by high throughput sequencing in cucumber-planted soil supplemented with the mixture of FA and PHBA. So CSY-P13 degrades the mixture of FA and PHBA in soil and mitigates stress from the two phenolic compounds in cucumber by activating antioxidant enzymes, changing soil bacterial community, and inducing soil enzymes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of tea consumption on the risk of endometrial cancer. METHODS: In a population based case-control study conducted in urban Shanghai, face-to-face interviews were completed for 995 incidence cases aged 30 - 69 from January 1997 to December 2002 and 1087 controls that frequency-matched to cases on age. Unconditional logistic model was used for analysis. RESULTS: An inverse association was observed in tea drinking and endometrial cancer risk. Compared to non-tea drinkers, regular tea drinkers had reduced risk of endometrial cancer (OR = 0.74; 95% CI: 0.54 - 1.01) in premenopausal women. Green tea had a protective effect on endometrial cancer among non-smoking or non-alcohol drinking women (OR = 0.77, P = 0.0199) and the ORs reduced with the increasing concentration of tea being served (P for trend = 0.0493). The multivariate ORs for drinking green tea < 7 times/week and >or= 7 times/week were 0.90 (95% CI: 0.53 - 1.54) and 0.76 (95% CI: 0.60 - 0.95) with the trend test of P = 0.0163. CONCLUSION: Tea drinking, with green tea in particurlar, seemed to have weak but inverse association with endometrial cancer risk, but this effect of protection might only limit to premenopausal women.
