RESUMO

Music-oriented auditory attention detection (AAD) aims at determining which instrument in polyphonic music a listener is paying attention to by analyzing the listener's electroencephalogram (EEG). However, the existing linear models cannot effectively mimic the nonlinearity of the human brain, resulting in limited performance. Thus, a nonlinear music-oriented AAD model is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an auditory feature and a musical feature are fused to represent musical sources precisely and comprehensively. Secondly, the EEG is enhanced if music stimuli are presented in stereo. Thirdly, a neural network architecture is constructed to capture nonlinear and dynamic interactions between the EEG and auditory stimuli. Finally, the musical source most similar to the EEG in the common embedding space is identified as the attended one. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms all baseline models. On 1-s decision windows, it reaches accuracies of 92.6% and 81.7% under mono duo and trio stimuli, respectively. Additionally, it can be easily extended to speech-oriented AAD. This work can open up new possibilities for studies on both brain neural activity decoding and music information retrieval.

Iodine is a crucial nutrient for public health, and its presence in the terrestrial atmosphere is a key factor in determining the prevalence of iodine deficiency disorders. While oceanic iodine emissions decrease at lower sea surface temperatures, the primary contributors to atmospheric iodine can vary from oceanic sources in the summer to other sources in winter. However, the specific sources and their respective contributions have remained unexplored. Fortunately, the atomic ratio of 129I to 127I significantly differs between nuclear activity and fossil fuels like coal and petroleum, which formed millions to billions of years ago. This distinction makes 129I a valuable tool for identifying iodine sources. In our study, we analyzed iodine isotopes and incorporated additional indicators such as element content in PM2.5 samples. Our findings reveal, for the first time, that in winter inland areas, fuel oil, alongside coal combustion, is a significant source of atmospheric iodine. This research enhances our comprehension of the impact of human activities on iodine levels in the environment. This understanding is crucial not only for addressing iodine deficiency-related health concerns but also for comprehending stratospheric ozone depletion, a phenomenon closely associated with atmospheric iodine.

BACKGROUND: Melanin plays important roles in morphological development, survival, host-pathogen interactions and in the virulence of phytopathogenic fungi. In Verticillum dahliae, increases in melanin are recognized as markers of maturation of microsclerotia which ensures the long-term survival and stress tolerance, while decreases in melanin are correlated with increased hyphal growth in the host. The conserved upstream components of the VdCmr1-regulated pathway controlling melanin production in V. dahliae have been extensively identified, but the direct activators of this pathway are still unclear. RESULTS: We identified two genes encoding conserved C2H2-type zinc finger proteins VdZFP1 and VdZFP2 adjacent to VdPKS9, a gene encoding a negative regulator of both melanin biosynthesis and microsclerotia formation in V. dahliae. Both VdZFP1 and VdZFP2 were induced during microsclerotia development and were involved in melanin deposition. Their localization changed from cytoplasmic to nuclear in response to osmotic pressure. VdZFP1 and VdZFP2 act as modulators of microsclerotia melanization in V. dahliae, as confirmed by melanin biosynthesis inhibition and supplementation with the melanin pathway intermediate scytalone in albino strains. The results indicate that VdZFP1 and VdZFP2 participate in melanin biosynthesis by positively regulating VdCmr1. Based on the results obtained with yeast one- and two-hybrid (Y1H and Y2H) and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) systems, we determined the melanin biosynthesis relies on the direct interactions among VdZFP1, VdZFP2 and VdCmr1, and these interactions occur on the cell walls of microsclerotia. Additionally, VdZFP1 and/or VdZFP2 mutants displayed increased sensitivity to stress factors rather than alterations in pathogenicity, reflecting the importance of melanin in stress tolerance of V. dahliae. CONCLUSIONS: Our results revealed that VdZFP1 and VdZFP2 positively regulate VdCmr1 to promote melanin deposition during microsclerotia development, providing novel insight into the regulation of melanin biosynthesis in V. dahliae.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Erchen decoction (ECD) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula comprising six distinct herbs and has been documented to possess a protective effect against obesity. The study conducted previously demonstrated that ECD has the potential to effectively modulate the composition of gut microbiota and levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in obese rat. However, the regulatory mechanism of ECD on gut microbiota and SCFAs and further improvement of obesity have not been thoroughly explained. AIM OF THE STUDY: The objective of this study was to examine the therapeutic effect and molecular mechanism of ECD in a rat model of high-fat diet (HFD) feeding. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats with HFD-induced obesity were treated with ECD. Upon completion of the study, serum and liver samples were procured to conduct biochemical, pathological, and Western blotting analyses. The investigation of alterations in the gut microbiota subsequent to ECD treatment was conducted through the utilization of 16S rRNA sequencing. The metabolic alterations in the cecal contents were examined through the utilization of mass spectrometry-ultraperformance liquid chromatography. RESULTS: ECD treatment improved lipid metabolic disorders and reduced hepatic steatosis in HFD-induced obese rats. Obese rat treated with ECD showed a higher abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria, including Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Butyricicoccus, and lower abundance of disease-related bacteria, such as Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, and Sediminibacterium. Additionally, ECD caused an increase in total SCFAs levels; in particular, butyric acid was dramatically increased in the HFD group. Rats treated with ECD also exhibited significantly increased butyric acid concentrations in the serum and liver. The subsequent reduction in histone deacetylase 1 expression and increase in acetyl-histone 3-lysine 9 (H3K9ac) levels contributed to the promotion of fatty acid ß-oxidation (FAO) in liver by ECD. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that ECD regulates the gut microbiota and promotes butyric acid production to ameliorate obesity-related hepatic steatosis. The mechanism might be related to the promotion of FAO via a butyric acid-mediated increase in H3K9ac levels in the liver.

Regan Syrup has the effect of clearing heat, releasing exterior, benefiting pharynx and relieving cough, and previous phase Ⅱ clinical trial showed that the efficacy of Regan Syrup high-dose and low-dose groups was better than that of the placebo group, and there was no statistically significant difference in the safety between the three groups. The present study was conducted to further investigate the efficacy and safety of the recommended dose(20 mL) of Regan Syrup in the treatment of common cold(wind-heat syndrome). Patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected and divided into the test group(Regan Syrup+Shufeng Jiedu Capsules placebo), positive drug group(Regan Syrup placebo+Shufeng Jiedu Capsules) and placebo group(Regan Syrup placebo+Shufeng Jiedu Capsules placebo) at a 1∶1∶1 using a block randomization method. The course of treatment was 3 days. A total of 119 subjects were included from six study centers, 39 in the test group, 40 in the positive drug group and 40 in the placebo group. The onset time of antipyretic effect was shorter in the test group than in the placebo group(P≤0.01) and the positive drug group, but the difference between the test group and the positive drug group was not significant. The test group was superior to the positive drug group in terms of fever resolution(P<0.05), and had a shorter onset time of fever resolution than the placebo group, but without obvious difference between the two groups. Compared to the positive drug group, the test group had shortened disappearance time of all symptoms(P≤0.000 1). In addition, the test group was better than the positive drug group and the placebo group in relieving symptoms of sore throat and fever(P<0.05), and in terms of clinical efficacy, the recovery rate of common cold(wind-heat syndrome) was improved in the test group compared to that in the placebo group(P<0.05). On the fourth day after treatment, the total TCM syndrome score in both test group and positive drug group was lower than that in the placebo group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between three groups and none of them experienced any serious adverse events related to the study drug. The results indicated that Regan Syrup could shorten the onset time of antipyretic effect, reduce the time of fever resolution, alleviate the symptoms such as sore throat and fever caused by wind-heat cold, reduce the total score of Chinese medicine symptoms, and improve the clinical recovery rate with good safety.

Ganodermasides E-H (1-4), four new ergosterol derivatives and two known ones (5 and 6) were isolated from the fermentation of the endophytic fungus Epicoccum poae DJ-F in the stems of Euphorbia royleana Boiss. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, including extensive 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and HRESIMS techniques. All the isolated compounds were tested for their vitro antibacterial activity. Compounds 1-6 showed weak inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas syringae, and Ralstonia solanacearum with MIC values ranging from 0.4 to 3.6 mM.

Macathioureas A-D (1-4), four new thiourea derivatives with a carbamothioylpyrrolidine-2-carboxamide framework, were isolated from the roots of Lepidium meyenii (Maca) collected from Qujing, Yunnan Province of China. Their structures were identified based on extensive spectroscopic data, including 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and HRESIMS techniques. Their absolute configurations were assigned as 7S by the comparison of the experimental and predicted electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. All the thiourea analogues were tested for their cytotoxicities against five human cancer cell lines. However, no significant activities were detected at concentrations up to 40 µM.

In this work, a facile and efficient strategy known as 'dynamic self-vulcanization of dual difunctional monomers' was reported to toughen poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with in-situ formed crosslinked bio-polyurethane (PCPUE) phase from plant oil-derived hydrogenated dimer diol (Pripol) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). By simply adjusting equivalent ratios (nNCO/nOH) of complementary functional groups between these two difunctional toughening monomers from 1.0 to 2.2 while fixing their total feeding content at 20 wt%, the notched impact strength (IS) and phase morphologies of PLA blends can be tailored in a broad range. When the ratio reached 1.6, the maximum IS value up to 87.1 kJ/m2 (about 28 times that of neat PLA) was achieved with an elongation-at-break of ~223 %. Based on the analysis on reaction mechanism and phase morphologies, the optimum interfacial compatibility between PLA and PCPUE phases in junction with the proper crosslinking density of rubbery PCPUE phase was considered to be responsible for such a remarkable improvement in impact toughness.

The relationship between inflammatory bowel disease and sleep disturbances is complicated and of increasing interest. We investigated the inflammatory and immunological consequences of EA in sleep-deprived colitis and found that dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in sleep-fragmented (SF) mice was more severe than that in mice with normal sleep. This increase in the severity of colitis was accompanied by reduced body weight, shortened colon length, and deteriorated disease activity index. DSS with SF mice presented obvious diminished intestinal tight junction proteins (claudin-1 and occludin), elevated proinflammatory cytokines (CRP, IFN-γ, IL-6), lowered melatonin and adiponectin levels, downregulated vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) type 1 and 2 receptor (VPAC1, VPAC2) expression, and decreased diversity of gut bacteria. EA ameliorated colitis severity and preserved the performance of the epithelial tight junction proteins and VIP receptors, especially VPAC2. Meanwhile, the innate lymphoid cells-derived cytokines in both group 2 (IL-4, IL5, IL-9, IL-13) and group 3 (IL-22, GM-CSF) were elevated in mice colon tissue. Furthermore, dysbiosis was confirmed in the DSS group with and without SF, and EA could maintain the species diversity. Firmicutes could be restored, such as Lachnospiraceae, and Proteobacteria become rebalanced, mainly Enterobacteriaceae, after EA intervention. On the other hand, SF plays different roles in physiological and pathological conditions. In normal mice, interrupted sleep did not affect the expression of claudin-1 and occludin. But VPAC1, VPAC2, and gut microbiota diversity, including Burkholderiaceae and Rhodococcus, were opposite to mice in an inflamed state.

Background: Long-acting beta-agonists (LABA) and long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMA) combination therapy improved lung function and health-related quality-of-life and reduced exacerbation rates and dyspnea in symptomatic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. We compared the real-world effects of three fixed-dose LABA/LAMA combinations for COPD in Taiwan. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study evaluated 1-year outcomes after LABA/LAMA combination therapy in patients with symptomatic COPD. Exacerbations and symptoms of COPD, lung functions, and therapy escalation were compared among patients using tiotropium/olodaterol, umeclidinium/vilanterol and indacaterol/glycopyrronium. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied to balance the baseline characteristics. Results: Data of 1,617 patients were collected. After PSM, time to first moderate-to-severe COPD exacerbation was comparable among three groups, while the annualized rates of the exacerbation (episodes/patient/year) in patients receiving tiotropium/olodaterol (0.19) or umeclidinium/vilanterol (0.17) were significantly lower than those receiving indacaterol/glycopyrronium (0.38). COPD-related symptoms were stable over the treatment period, and there was no significant difference in the changes of symptom scores including CAT and mMRC among three groups at the end of the study period. Conclusion: This study presented valuable real-world outcome in terms of exacerbation and treatment response of COPD patients treated with fixed-dose LABA/LAMA regimens in Taiwan. The annualized rates of moderate-to-severe exacerbation in patients receiving tiotropium/olodaterol or umeclidinium/vilanterol were significantly lower than those receiving indacaterol/glycopyrronium, though the time to first moderate-to-severe exacerbation was similar among different fixed-dose LABA/LAMA combinations.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Anemarrhenae Rhizoma/Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex (AR/PCC) herb pair has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicines for the treatment of diabetic osteoporosis. However, the anti-diabetic osteoporotic active components of AR/PCC remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the major active ingredients in AR/PCC for its protective effects against bone deterioration induced by diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The aqueous extracts of AR/PCC with different proportions (AR:PCC = 1:3, 1:2, 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1, w/w) were prepared. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were orally administrated with the AR/PCC extracts. The absorbed phytochemical compounds in serum of diabetic rats were identified by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry method and their contents in the AR/PCC extracts were determined by high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector-evaporative light scattering detector method. The absorbed compounds in the extracts were considered as the major potential active components in AR/PCC, and their combination was defined as M-AR/PCC. A component-knockout approach was applied to evaluate the contribution of each compound in M-AR/PCC. The larvae and adults of diabetic zebrafish models were then used to evaluated the anti-diabetic osteoporotic performance of the M-AR/PCC. The real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction technique was applied to study the regulation effects of M-AR/PCC on osteogenesis and osteoclastgensis in diabetic zebrafish models. RESULTS: The phenotypes of diabetic osteoporosis rats induced by streptozotocin were reversed by the oral administration of AR/PCC extracts with different ratios, as evidenced by the increased bone mineral density, bone volume density, trabecular thickness, trabecular number, and decreased trabecular separation of femoral metaphysis. Seven phytochemical compounds were detected in the serum and their contents in AR/PCC varied dramatically with different proportions, including 1 xanthone glycoside and 6 alkaloids. By using diabetic zebrafish larvae model and compound-knockout strategy, each compound in M-AR/PCC were proved to play an indispensable role in the positive regulatory actions in the bone mass of diabetic zebrafish. Furthermore, the herb pair with a ratio of 1:1 and the related M-AR/PCC showed the best therapeutic effects on diabetic osteoporosis. They showed similar performances on the inhibition of the tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase activity and the promotion of the alkaline phosphatase activity in diabetic adult zebrafish model. The M-AR/PCC treatment could decrease the blood glucose, upregulate the mRNA expression levels of osteoblast-related genes (alp, runx2b and opg) and downregulate the expression of osteoclast-related genes (acp5α, rankl and sost) in streptozotocin-induced zebrafish. CONCLUSION: AR/PCC herb pair and its major active components possess potent anti-diabetic osteoporotic effect on streptozotocin-induced in vivo models. The combination of the seven active compounds derived from AR/PCC herbal pair could be a potential agent for protection against osteoporosis associated with diabetes.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine the safety and efficacy of enteral nutrition in combination with microbial preparations for bowel preparation in elderly patients with colorectal cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Were divided 160 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer into a control group (n=80) and an experimental group (n=80) by random number table method. The control group took the traditional intestinal preparation, and the experimental group took oral enteral nutrition combined with microbial preparations. Both groups were treated by the same medical team. The postoperative recovery, complications, nutritional status, inflammation, and other indicators of the 2 groups were compared. RESULTS The nutritional status of the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group, the incidence of tissue inflammation and postoperative complications was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the stool test results of patients with postoperative diarrhea were better than those of the control group, and the difference between groups was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS The intestinal preparation using enteral nutrition combined with microbial preparations can alleviate the systemic inflammatory response in elderly patients, improve the nutritional status, reduce the occurrence of postoperative complications, and facilitate rapid postoperative recovery.

Nifedipine is an antihypertensive chemical. The illegal addition of this chemical into Chinese traditional patent medicine (CTPM) is unstandardized and lacks regulation. It could bring serious side effects to patients, causing various symptoms. Therefore, accurate detection of nifedipine is very important for human health and the prevention of illegal additives. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a fast and sensitive fingerprint spectroscopic technique, which has been shown to be promising in drug detection. In this study, nifedipine in CTPM was determined qualitatively and quantitatively with SERS. Linear relationships between the concentrations of nifedipine and the intensities of the characteristic peaks were established. The results showed a linear relationship within the concentration range of 0.5-10 mg/L, and the lowest detectable concentration of nifedipine in CTPM was 0.1 mg/L (equivalent to 0.03% doping of nifedipine in CTPM). This method has shown a great potential in the detection of drugs illegally added to CTPM.

Antrodia cinnamomea is extensively used as a traditional medicine to prevention and treatment of liver cancer. However, its comprehensive chemical fingerprint is uncertain, and the mechanisms, especially the potential therapeutic target for anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still unclear. Using UPLC‒Q-TOF/MS, 139 chemical components were identified in A. cinnamomea dropping pills (ACDPs). Based on these chemical components, network pharmacology demonstrated that the targets of active components were significantly enriched in the pathways in cancer, which were closely related with cell proliferation regulation. Next, HCC data was downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus database (GEO). The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and DisGeNET were analyzed by bioinformatics, and 79 biomarkers were obtained. Furtherly, nine targets of ACDP active components were revealed, and they were significantly enriched in PI3K/AKT and cell cycle signaling pathways. The affinity between these targets and their corresponding active ingredients was predicted by molecular docking. Finally, in vivo and in vitro experiments showed that ACDPs could reduce the activity of PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and downregulate the expression of cell cycle-related proteins, contributing to the decreased growth of liver cancer. Altogether, PI3K/AKT-cell cycle appears as the significant central node in anti-liver cancer of A. Cinnamomea.

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurring hypoxic-apneic events during sleep, and labyrinthine vascular compromise is a pathophysiologic hallmark of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL). Some reports have discussed the relationship between OSA and hearing impairment; however, few have examined hearing prognosis in OSA and patients without OSA with ISSNHL. We aimed to investigate clinical manifestations of ISSNHL in patients with OSA, including severity of hearing loss and response to treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case-control study was conducted by extracting data from the sleep center and cochlea center databases of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. A retrospective chart review was performed to include confirmed adult OSA patients diagnosed with unilateral ISSNHL. Age and sex-matched patients without OSA with ISSNHL were enrolled as controls. Pure-tone average (PTA) thresholds were measured at specific frequencies. Changes in PTA before and after standard treatment with oral prednisolone (1mg/kg/day for 5 days, then tapered) and between participants with OSA and without OSA were compared. Standard treatment was given to all ISSNHL patients. RESULTS: Twenty-eight out of 8500 (0.33%) OSA patients experienced subsequent ISSNHL in 9 years. Patients with OSA (n=28) had poorer high-frequency perception in the unaffected ear than the patients without OSA (n=120), although the difference was not significant. Hearing in the affected ear among patients with OSA was comparable to that patients without OSA at individual frequencies and average, suggesting no difference in hearing loss in the affected ear between the two groups. In terms of high-frequencies (4000 and 8000 Hz) perception, patients with OSA had significantly poorer responses to steroid treatment than patients without OSA. CONCLUSION: ISSNHL may be one of the auditory complications associated with OSA. Patients with OSA had poorer prednisolone related hearing improvement in high frequencies than patients without OSA. Despite study limitations, OSA-related hypoxia and snoring noise is hazardous to hearing and standard treatments with CPAP is suggested in OSA patients for both holistic and auditory health.

Although triple-quadrupole inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS) has become an attractive technique for the measurement of long-lived radionuclides, the abundance sensitivity, isobaric and polyatomic ions interferences seriously restrict the application. The spectral peak tailing and uranium hydrides (UH+, UH2+) from 238U have a serious influence on the accurate measurement of 239Pu and 240Pu, especially for the ultra-trace level plutonium isotopes in the higher uranium sample. A new method was developed using ICP-MS/MS measurement in mass-shift mode with collision-reaction gas combined with a chemical separation procedure. As O2 readily converted Pu+ ion to PuO2+, while disassociated the interfering diatomic ions of interfering elements (U, Pb, Hg, Tl, etc.), the interferences from these elements were completely eliminated if plutonium was detected as PuO2+ at the m/z more than 270. By the mass filter in MS/MS mode combined with O2 as reaction gas the lower peak tailing of 238U+ (<5 × 10-12) was significantly suppressed. By this way, the 238UO2H+/238UO2+ atomic ratio was reduced to 4.82 × 10-9, which is significantly lower than that of other collision-reaction gas modes. Interferences from Pb, Hg and Tl polyatomic ions were also completely eliminated. Thus, accurate measurement of ultra-trace level 239Pu in high uranium sample solutions with the 239Pu/238U concentration ratio of 10-10 was achieved by the mass-shift mode with 0.15 mL/min O2/He + 12.0 mL/min He as collision-reaction gas, and high elimination efficiency of uranium interferences up to 1014 can be obtained by combination with the chemical separation using a single UTEVA resin column. The developed method can be applied to accurately determine the fg level 239Pu in high uranium samples, such as large-size deep seawater, deep soil and sediment, uranium debris of nuclear fuel.

OBJECTIVE: While gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are very common in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), few studies have investigated the neural basis behind these symptoms. In this study, we sought to elucidate the neural basis of GI symptoms in MDD patients by analyzing the changes in regional gray matter volume (GMV) and gray matter density (GMD) in brain structure. METHOD: Subjects were recruited from 13 clinical centers and categorized into three groups, each of which is based on the presence or absence of GI symptoms: the GI symptoms group (MDD patients with at least one GI symptom), the non-GI symptoms group (MDD patients without any GI symptoms), and the healthy control group (HCs). Structural magnetic resonance images (MRI) were collected of 335 patients in the GI symptoms group, 149 patients in the non-GI symptoms group, and 446 patients in the healthy control group. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) was administered to all patients. Correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to determine if there was a correlation between the altered brain regions and the clinical symptoms. RESULTS: There were significantly higher HAMD-17 scores in the GI symptoms group than that of the non-GI symptoms group (P < 0.001). Both GMV and GMD were significant different among the three groups for the bilateral superior temporal gyrus, bilateral middle temporal gyrus, left lingual gyrus, bilateral caudate nucleus, right Fusiform gyrus and bilateral Thalamus (GRF correction, cluster-P < 0.01, voxel-P < 0.001). Compared to the HC group, the GI symptoms group demonstrated increased GMV and GMD in the bilateral superior temporal gyrus, and the non-GI symptoms group demonstrated an increased GMV and GMD in the right superior temporal gyrus, right fusiform gyrus and decreased GMV in the right Caudate nucleus (GRF correction, cluster-P < 0.01, voxel-P < 0.001). Compared to the non-GI symptoms group, the GI symptoms group demonstrated significantly increased GMV and GMD in the bilateral thalamus, as well as decreased GMV in the bilateral superior temporal gyrus and bilateral insula lobe (GRF correction, cluster-P < 0.01, voxel-P < 0.001). While these changed brain areas had significantly association with GI symptoms (P < 0.001), they were not correlated with depressive symptoms (P > 0.05). Risk factors for gastrointestinal symptoms in MDD patients (p < 0.05) included age, increased GMD in the right thalamus, and decreased GMV in the bilateral superior temporal gyrus and left Insula lobe. CONCLUSION: MDD patients with GI symptoms have more severe depressive symptoms. MDD patients with GI symptoms exhibited larger GMV and GMD in the bilateral thalamus, and smaller GMV in the bilateral superior temporal gyrus and bilateral insula lobe that were correlated with GI symptoms, and some of them and age may contribute to the presence of GI symptoms in MDD patients.

Resveratrol-loaded fish gelatin (FG)-low methoxyl pectin (LMP) composite films with different FG:LMP mass ratios were prepared and evaluated as food packaging materials. With increasing FG contents, the water solubility of the films decreased. Moreover, the UV (315-400 nm) blocking efficiency and opacity increased with increasing LMP contents. The elongation of the films at breaking and tensile strengths were adjusted using the ratio of FG and LMP. The lowest water vapour permeability was observed at an FG:LMP mass ratio of 2:1. All films exhibited good antioxidant properties and significantly delayed oil deterioration when used for beef tallow preservation. The release behaviour of resveratrol in 95% ethanol as a food simulant was determined by film composition. The fabricated films exhibit significant potential for beef tallow preservation applications. Furthermore, LMP can improve the stability of resveratrol-FG complexes and compete with resveratrol for binding FG to accelerate resveratrol release.

BACKGROUND: With the increasing risk of infectious disease outbreaks around the world, the role of community health centres (CHCs) in the prevention and control of epidemics has become increasingly prominent. This study aimed to examine the capacities, vulnerabilities, and obstacles related to coping with infectious disease epidemics in Chinese CHCs. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shanghai CHCs. Stratified random sampling was used to select 48 CHCs, and 2460 medical staff members responded to questionnaire surveys. ANOVA and multivariate analysis were used to evaluate the current situation and main obstacles regarding CHC medical staff members' perceptions of their capacity to cope with infectious disease epidemics. RESULTS: The scores for regulation awareness (mean= 3.64, SD= 0.02) and detection/reporting ability (mean= 3.66, SD= 0.02) were lower than the score for the ability to handle an epidemic (mean= 3.79, SD= 0.02). After controlling for covariates, working in a traditional Chinese medicine (ß= -0.63, P= 0.002) or medical technology department (ß= -0.60, P= 0.002), not having participated in emergency exercises (ß= -0.78, P< 0.001), and not having participated in emergency training (ß= -0.59, P= 0.01) were associated with lower scores on all three domains. Those with senior professional titles reported relatively high levels of ability to handle an epidemic (ß= 0.21, P= 0.01). Female workers reported relatively low regulation awareness (ß= -0.11, P= 0.02) and detection/reporting ability (ß= -0.11, P= 0.01). CONCLUSION: The three emergency response abilities of CHC medical workers differed based on the medical worker's sex, department, and title, indicating the need for targeted scientific emergency exercises and training for infectious disease outbreaks. Moreover, there is a need to improve the relevant policies and equipment.

To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Danhong Injection combined with conventional therapy in improving diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease. Based on the online literature database(CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochran Library), the Chinese and English papers about the randomized controlled trial(RCT) of Danhong Injection in the treatment of diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease were searched comprehensively from the establishment of the databases to January 1, 2020. The papers were screened strictly according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on Jadad scale, the risk assessment of literature was carried out, and Meta-analysis was performed by STATA 12.0 software. Seventeen RCTs were included, involving 1 453 patients. The results of Meta-analysis showed that the combination of Danhong Injection and conventio-nal treatment could improve the clinical comprehensive effective rate(RR=1.47, 95%CI[1.38, 1.58], P<0.000 1), electrocardiogram(ECG) efficiency(RR=1.30, 95%CI[1.16, 1.46], P<0.000 1), efficiency of the angina pectoris(RR=1.41, 95%CI[1.25, 1.58], P<0.000 1), cholesterol level(SMD=-1.05, 95%CI[-1.95,-0.16], P=0.02), low-density lipoprotein(LDL) level(SMD=-0.50, 95%CI[-0.79,-0.21], P<0.000 1), coronary angina attack frequency(SMD=-3.71, 95%CI[-4.05,-3.36], P<0.000 1) and duration of angina pectoris(SMD=-2.96, 95%CI[-3.25,-2.66], P<0.000 1), with statistically significant differences. But the differences in fasting plasma glucose(FPG)(SMD=-0.19, 95%CI[-0.45, 0.08], P=0.16), plasma glucose of two hours after meal(2 hPG)(SMD=0.19, 95%CI[-0.11, 0.49], P=0.22), and high-density lipoprotein(HDL) level(SMD=0.10, 95%CI[-0.30, 0.49], P=0.62) after treatment were not statistically significant. Compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in adverse reactions(SMD=-2.96, 95%CI[-3.25,-2.66], P=0.75). The existing evidence shows that the combination of Western medicine and Danhong Injection can improve the clinical effect for diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease and has no obvious adverse reactions. However, due to the low level of overall literature evidence, high risk and some kind of publication bias, it still needs more high-quality randomized controlled trials and low-bias studies for further verification.
