RESUMO

Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital vascular disorder characterized by wine stains, abnormal tissue and bone growth, and vascular malformations. Genital involvement is uncommon. We report a case of a 12-year-old female with KTS who experienced recurrent profuse vaginal bleeding and provide a comprehensive literature review on KTS cases with genital involvement. The literature reports 7 cases, mainly in individuals aged 25 to 45, presenting with uncontrollable vaginal bleeding and anemia. Endovascular interventions were the primary treatment, although surgery was necessary in some cases. Recent studies have identified a potential association between KTS and the PIK3CA gene mutation, offering insights for pharmacological treatment.

The length of internodes plays a crucial role in determining the height of the castor plant (Ricinus communis L.). However, the specific mechanisms underlying internode elongation, particularly in the main stem of the castor plant, remain uncertain. To further investigate this, we conducted a study focusing on the internode tissue of the dwarf castor variety 071113, comparing it with the control high-stalk Zhuansihao. Our study included a cytological observation, physiological measurement, transcriptome sequencing, and metabolic determination. Our integrated findings reveal that the dwarf variety 071113 undergoes an earlier lignification development in the main stem and has a more active lignin synthesis pathway during internode intermediate development. In addition, the dwarf variety exhibited lower levels of the plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), which had an impact on the development process. Furthermore, we identified specific enzymes and regulators that were enriched in the pathways of the cell cycle, auxin signal transduction, and secondary cell wall synthesis. Using these findings, we developed a model that explained the intermediate secondary growth observed in castor internode elongation and enhanced our comprehension of the dwarfing mechanism of the 071113 variety. This research provides a theoretical groundwork for the future breeding of dwarf castor varieties.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of laser or intense pulsed light therapy for early treatment of surgical scar. METHODS: A literature search was conducted for relevant prospective, randomized controlled trials published in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, WanFang Database, and VTTMS between January 2006 and January 2022. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist was used to extract literature data. The risk of bias was assessed by RevMan. Safety was assessed based on the presence of serious adverse reactions (blisters, infections, burns above the second degree), while effectiveness was assessed using the Vancouver Score Scale. RESULTS: 1512 related articles were preliminarily retrieved, including 1211 English articles and 301 Chinese articles. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 12 articles were selected for this analysis. In total, 475 patients were included (laser group, 238; control group, 236). All studies confirmed that the laser group was superior to the control group. In the subgroup analysis of 7 articles, the standardized mean difference was 1.99 (P = 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis demonstrates that laser or intense pulsed light therapy is a safe and effective approach for early surgical scar treatment, resulting in improved scar appearance and minimal adverse reactions. Retaining sufficient anammox bacteria (AnAOB) while keeping the anammox-based process stable is the focus of the study of anammox technology, especially in a one-stage partial nitritation/anammox (PNA) process. The use of hydroxyapatite (HAP) granules in an anammox-based process is innovative for its potential to improve the nitrogen removal rate and achieve simultaneous removal of phosphorus. In this study, the HAP-based granular sludge was employed using enhancement strategies for an excellent nitrogen removal performance in a one-stage PNA process. Compared to those of other granular sludge PNA systems, a remarkable sludge volume index of 7.8 mL/g and an extremely high mixed liquor volatile suspended solids of 15 g/L were achieved under a low hydraulic retention time of 2 h. Consequently, an unprecedented nitrogen removal rate as high as 4.8 kg N/m3/d at 25 °C was obtained under a nitrogen loading rate of 6 kg N/m3/d. After a long-term operation of 870 days, the enhancement strategies underlying the superior performance of the granular sludge were identified. These findings clearly demonstrate that the enhancement strategies are crucial for the superior operating performance of the PNA process, and they can promote the application of the anammox-based process.

OBJECTIVE: Hypophosphatemia often occurs after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage, but the effect of hypophosphatemia on its prognosis is under debate. METHODS: Clinical data of patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage admitted to our neurosurgery department from January 2018 to June 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into the hypophosphatemia group and the nonhypophosphatemia group according to the serum phosphorus test values obtained three times within 1 week after admission. The incidence of complications during hospitalization, 28-day mortality, and 6-month mRS score were compared between the two groups. The influence of low phosphorus in patients with hypophosphatemia on the 6-month mRS score was explored. RESULTS: A total of 133 patients were included, of which 85 had hypophosphatemia. Forty-two patients (21 in the hypophosphatemia group and 21 in the nonhypophosphatemia group) were enrolled after propensity score matching. There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of complications during hospitalization, 28-day mortality, and 6-month mRS score between the two groups (P > 0.05). In 85 patients with hypophosphatemia, the minimum serum phosphorus was associated with the 6-month mRS score (B = - 3.153, 95% CI: - 5.842 ~ - 0.463, P = 0.022). The cutoff value of serumphosphorus for predicting 6-month mRS score was 0.505 mmol/l. CONCLUSION: Whether hypophosphatemia occurred during hospitalization in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage showed no effect on the incidence of complications, 28-day mortality, and 6-month mRS score. A significant decrease in serum phosphorus during hospitalization (≤ 0.505 mmol/l) might correlate with a poor 6-month mRS score. Maintaining serum phosphorus stability after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage may improve prognosis.

A novel swarm intelligence algorithm, discretized grey wolf optimizer (GWO), was introduced as a variable selection tool in edible blend oil analysis for the first time. In the approach, positions of wolves were updated and then discretized by logical function. The performance of a wolf pack, the iteration number and the number of wolves were investigated. The partial least squares (PLS) method was used to establish and predict single oil contents in samples. To validate the method, 102 edible blend oil samples containing soybean oil, sunflower oil, peanut oil and sesame oil were measured by an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. The results demonstrated that GWO-PLS models can provide best prediction accuracy with least variables compared with full-spectrum PLS, Monte Carlo uninformative variable elimination-PLS (MCUVE-PLS) and randomization test-PLS (RT-PLS). The determination coefficients (R2) of GWO-PLS were all above 0.95. Therefore, the research indicates the feasibility of using discretized GWO for variable selection in rapid determination of quaternary edible blend oil.

Environmental metal exposure has been associated with decreasing semen quality, but the effects of multiple metal exposure on seminal plasma metabolome remain obscure. In this study, semen and repeated urine samples from 551 volunteers were collected in Wuhan City. Heavy metals and trace elements were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, and seminal plasma metabolomes were acquired using liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis showed more than half of the seminal plasma metals were associated with specific metabolite modules, whereas only a few urine metals presented weak associations, indicating that seminal plasma may be an ideal biological sample for male reproductive biomarker discovery and exposure risk assessment. Seminal plasma zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se) concentrations were significantly associated with 22 metabolites (e.g., glycerophospholipids, acyl-carnitines and amino acid derivatives). Among these metabolites, acyl-carnitines were positively associated with semen quality and sperm concentration. Moreover, acyl-carnitines were associated with both Zn and Se exposure, indicating the potential role of carnitine pathway in their toxicity mechanism. Our findings suggest that seminal plasma metabolome connects Zn and Se exposure and sperm concentrations in Chinese men of reproductive age.

BACKGROUND: Excessive inflammation and cell death induced by ultraviolet (UV) cause skin photodamage. Metformin possesses anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects. However, whether metformin inhibits inflammation and cell death in UVB-induced acute skin damage is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects of metformin in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, its potential mechanism has been explored. METHODS: Transcriptome sequencing and multiplex cytokines analysis were used to evaluate the validity of in vitro UVB-induced acute damage keratinocyte model and anti-inflammatory effects of metformin. We also determined the expression and nuclear translocation of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta (C/EBPß), an important transcriptional factor of Interleukin-1beta (IL-1ß). Cell viability and cell death of keratinocytes were evaluated upon UVB irradiation in the presence or absence of metformin. 0.6% metformin cream was applied on UVB-irradiated mice to explore its pharmacological effects in vivo. RESULTS: Transcriptional landscape of 50 mJ/cm2 UVB-irradiated HaCaT cells is typical of UVB-induced acute damage keratinocyte model in vitro. Metformin alleviated transcription and secretion of IL-1ß, Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha, and Fibroblast Growth Factor 2, expression and nuclear translocation of C/EBPß in this model. Metformin also protected keratinocytes from cell death caused by UVB-induced cellular secretions, which contributed to its cytoprotective effects. Topical administration of 0.6% metformin cream alleviated UVB-induced skin damage in mice. CONCLUSION: We proved the protective roles of metformin in UVB-challenged keratinocytes and UVB-irradiated mice, which indicated the potential value of metformin in topical therapy against skin photodamage.

BACKGROUND: Labor pain during childbirth can have devastating effects on the progress of labor, mother, and fetus. Consequently, the management of labor pain is crucial for the well-being of the mother and fetus. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a non -pharmacological analgesic technique. It uses a low-voltage electrical current to activate descending inhibitory systems in the central nervous system to relieve pain. This study aimed to determine the effects of TENS therapy in the first stage of labor. METHODS: In this single-blind randomized controlled trial, we screened low-risk pregnant women who anticipated spontaneous vaginal delivery. Women were assigned (1:1) to either the experimental group (received TENS therapy in the first stage of labor) or the control group (received routine obstetric care). The women, midwives, and researchers working in the gynecology and obstetric department were aware of the treatment group, but statisticians analysis the data were blinded. The primary outcome was labor pain intensity, assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) immediately after the randomization, at 30, 60, and 120 min after TENS therapy, and 2-24 h post-delivery. We used SPSS 21.0 software in data analysis. An independent sample t-test compared the mean VAS scores and labor duration between groups. A Chi-square test was employed to compare categorical variables between the groups. A significant level of ≤0.05 was statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of 326 pregnant women were eligible: experimental group (n = 161) and control group (n = 165). The experimental group had statistically significantly lower mean VAS scores at a different time (30, 60, and 120 min post-intervention and 2-24 h post-delivery) than the control group (p < 0.001). The experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant shorter duration of the active labor phase than the control group (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: This study indicates that TENS can be used as a non-pharmacological therapy to reduce pain and shorten the active labor phase. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN registry, ISRCTN23857995 . The inhibition properties of 10 tea polyphenols against α-glucosidase were studied through inhibition assay, inhibition kinetics, fluorescence quenching and molecular docking. It was found that the inhibitory activity of polyphenols with a 3 and/or 3' galloyl moiety (GM) was much higher than that without a GM. The GM could enter into the active site of α-glucosidase and bind with the catalytic amino acid residues through hydrogen bonding and π-conjugation, thus playing an important role in the competitive inhibition of catechins and theaflavins. The positive linear correlations among the constants characterizing the inhibitory activity and binding affinity of tea polyphenols to α-glucosidase indicate that enzyme inhibition by polyphenols is caused by the binding interactions between them, and that the combination of the characterization methods for polyphenol-glucosidase binding is reasonable. In addition, the in vivo hypoglycemic effects of galloylated polyphenols suggest that the GM may be considered as a pharmaceutical fragment for the alleviation of type II diabetes symptoms through α-glucosidase inhibition.

The amyloid beta (Aß) fibrillar aggregate is the hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Disassembling preformed fibril or inhibiting Aß aggregation is considered as a therapeutic strategy for AD. Increasing evidence shows that green tea extracts, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG, containing an extra gallic acid ester group compared to EGC) and epigallocatechin (EGC), can disassociate Aß fibrils and attenuate Aß toxicity. However, the underlying molecular mechanism is poorly understood. Herein, we performed microsecond all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the influences of EGCG/EGC on the newly cryo-EM resolved LS-shaped Aß42 protofibrils and their detailed interactions. MD simulations demonstrate that both EGCG and EGC can disrupt Aß42 protofibril and EGCG displays a higher disruptive capacity than EGC. EGCG alters the L-shape of Aß42 protofibril by breaking the hydrogen bond between H6 and E11 through π-π interactions with residues H14/Y10 and hydrogen-bonding interactions with E11, while EGC remodels the L-shape by inserting into the hydrophobic core formed by A2, F4, L34, and V36 and via aromatics interaction with H6/Y10. EGCG disrupts the salt bridges between the K28 side chain and A42 COO- through hydrogen-bonding interaction with A42 and cation-π interaction between its gallic acid ester group and K28, while EGC damages the salt bridges through hydrophobic interactions with V39 and I41 as well as with I32, M35, and V40 located in the C-terminal hydrophobic core. This study demonstrates the pivotal role of the gallic acid ester group of EGCG in disrupting Aß42 protofibril and provides atomic-level insights into the distinct mechanism by which EGCG and EGC disrupt Aß protofibril, which could be useful for designing amyloid inhibitors.

RESUMO

Over the past forty years, anammox-based processes have been extensively researched and applied to some extent. However, some of the long-standing problems present serious impediments to wide application of these processes, and knowledge gap between lab-scale research and full-scale operations is still considerable. In recent years, anammox-based research has developed rapidly and some emerging concepts have been proposed. The focus of this review is on the critical problems facing actual application of anammox processes. The latest developments in anammox-based processes are summarized, and particular consideration is given to the following aspects: (1) the evolution of the chemical stoichiometry of anammox reaction; (2) the status of several main anammox-based processes; (3) the critical problems and countermeasures; (4) the emerging anammox-based processes; and (5) the suggested optimal process integrating partial nitritation, anammox, hydroxyapatite crystallization and denitratation for digestion effluent treatment towards more efficient nitrogen removal and phosphorus recovery in the future.

This study establishes a new combinatorial approach for histochemical analysis of polysaccharides in herbal medicines using laser microdissection followed by high performance gel permeation chromatography coupled with charged aerosol detector and ultra-performance liquid chromatography hyphenated with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. Ginseng was employed as a study model. Tissue-specific qualitative and quantitative characterization of ginseng polysaccharides was performed by determining their molar masses and monosaccharide compositions in three macro-dissected parts (rhizome, main and branched roots) and five micro-dissected tissues (cork, cortex, xylem, phloem and resin canal). The results showed that ginseng "flesh" (xylem, phloem and resin canal) contained more polysaccharides with larger molecular weights and higher ratios of glucose residue, whereas ginseng "skin" (cork and cortex) had fewer polysaccharides with smaller molecular weights and higher ratios of non-glucose constituents (e.g. galacturonic acid, galactose, arabinose and rhamnose). These findings suggested that the polysaccharides of the "flesh" were predominantly starch-like glucans, while those of the "skin" were of a higher proportion of acidic pectins. The revealed histologic distribution and accumulation pattern of ginseng polysaccharides contributes to the scientific understanding of ginseng regarding the biosynthesis and transportation of polysaccharides, medicinal quality evaluation as well as empirical clinical application.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) initiates a neuroinflammatory cascade that contributes to substantial neuronal damage and neurological deterioration. Taurine, an abundant amino acid in the nervous system, is reported to reduce inflammatory injury in various central nervous system diseases, but its role and the possible underlying mechanisms in the pathology following ICH remains unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of taurine supplementation on neurological deficits, acute inflammatory responses and white matter injury in a model of ICH in rats. Adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats subjected to collagenase-induced ICH injury were injected intravenously with different concentrations of taurine or vehicle 10 min after ICH and subsequently daily for 3 days. Behavioral studies, brain water content, and assessments of hemorrhagic lesion volume were quantified at day 1 and day 3 post-ICH. Neuronal damage, peri-hematomal inflammatory responses, and white matter injury were determined at 24 h, meanwhile, the content of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) along with the expression of cystathionine-ß-synthase (CBS) and P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) in peri-hematomal tissues was analyzed to investigate the possible anti-inflammatory mechanism of taurine. Treatment with a high dosage of taurine (50 mg/kg) significantly attenuated functional deficits and reduced brain edema and hemorrhagic lesion volume after ICH. Taurine administration also resulted in significant amelioration of neuronal damage and white matter injury. These changes were associated with marked reductions in neutrophil infiltration, glial activation, and expression levels of inflammatory mediators. Moreover, the anti-inflammatory effect of taurine was accompanied by increased H2S content, enhanced CBS expression, and less expression of P2X7R. Our study demonstrated that the high dosage of taurine supplementation effectively mitigated the severity of pathological inflammation and white matter injury after ICH, and the mechanism may be related to upregulation of H2S content and reduced P2X7R expression.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of individualized scalp acupuncture base on location of brain function for motor dysfunction in stroke patients. METHODS: A total of 180 patients were randomly assigned into an individualized scalp acupuncture (ISA) group, a conventional scalp acupuncture (CSA) group and a rehabilitation group, 60 cases in each one. In the ISA group, we stimulated Sishencong (EX-HN 1), motor area and balance area, matched with pre-motor area for higher muscle tension, application area and NIE 's three-needle for involuntary motion, application area for poor motor coordination, forehead five-needle for cognitive disorder, sensory area for sensory disturbance. In the CSA group, the affected Dingnieqianxiexian (MS 6), Dingniehouxiexian (MS 7) and Zhenxiapangxian (MS 14) were selected. Rehabilitation was used during needle retained in the two groups. Simple rehabilitation was used in the rehabilitation group. All the treatment was given from Monday to Friday for 4 weeks, once a day for 20 times. Eight-week follow-up was applied. The Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) for motor function, modified Barthel Index (MBI) were used to evaluate clinical effect. RESULTS: After treatment and at follow-up, FMA and MBI scores increased compared with those before treatment in the three groups(all P<0.01), with significant differences among the three groups (all P<0.000 1) and better results in the ISA group compared with those in the other two groups (P<0.05, P<0.01) at the two time points. The FMA and MBI scores in the CSA group were higher than those in the rehabilitation group after treatment and at follow-up (all P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The individualized scalp acupuncture can improve motor dysfunction and self-care ability of daily life for stroke patients.

Angiographic vasospasm, especially in the early phases (<72h) of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), is one of the major complications after an aneurysm rupture and is often the cause of delayed neurological deterioration. Scutellarin (SCU), a flavonoid extracted from the traditional Chinese herb Erigeron breviscapus, has been widely accepted as an antioxidant, but the effect of SCU on vasospasm after SAH remains elusive. Endovascular perforation was conducted to induce SAH in Sprague-Dawley rats. Then, the underlying mechanism of the anti-vasospasm effect of SCU was investigated using a modified Garcia scale, India ink angiography, cross-sectional area analysis, immunohistochemistry staining and western blot. SCU (50µM, 100mg/kg) alleviated angiographic vasospasm and improved neurological function 48h after SAH and enhanced the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) at the intima of cerebral arteries. In addition, SCU upregulated the expression of phosphorylated extracellular-regulated kinase 5 (p-Erk5) and Kruppel-like factor 2 (KLF2) at 48h after SAH. However, the effects of SCU were reversed by the Erk5 inhibitor XMD8-92. Our results indicate that SCU could attenuate vasospasm and neurological deficits via modulating the Erk5-KLF2-eNOS pathway after SAH, which may provide an experimental basis for the clinical use of SCU treatment in SAH patients.

Early brain injury, which is associated with brain cell death, blood-brain barrier disruption, brain edema, and other pathophysiological events, is thought to be the main target in the prevention of poor outcomes after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Emerging evidences indicates that complement system, especially complement C3 is detrimental to neurological outcomes of SAH patients. Recently, Ephedra sinica extract was extracted and purified, which exhibits ability to block the activity of the classical and alternative pathways of complement, and improve neurological outcomes after spinal cord injury and ischemic brain injury. However, it is still unclear whether Ephedra sinica extract could attenuate early brain injury after SAH. In the present study, a standard endovascular perforation model was used to produce the experimental SAH in Sprague-Dawley rats. Ephedra sinica extract (15mg/kg) was orally administrated daily and evaluated for effects on modified Garcia score, brain water content, Evans blue extravasation and fluorescence, cortex cell death by TUNEL staining, and the expressions of complement C3/C3b, activated C3, sonic hedgehog, osteopontin and matrix metalloproteinase-9 by western bolt and immunofluorescence staining. We founded that the Ephedra sinica extract alleviated the blood-brain barrier disruption and brain edema, eventually improved neurological functions after SAH in rats. These neuroprotective effects was associated with the inhibition of complement C3, possibly via upregulating sonic hedgehog and osteopontin signal, and reducing the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-9. Taking together, these observations suggested complement C3 inhibition by the Ephedra sinica extract may be a protective factor against early brain injury after SAH.

A novel flavanone glycoside, 3',5',5,7-tetrahydroxy-6-C-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-flavanone (1), along with 16 known compounds, (R/S)-eriodictyol-8-C-ß-D-glucopyranoside (2), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnosyl (1''' --> 3''')-ß-D-glucopyranoside (3), hemipholin (4), 4ß-carboxymethyl-(-)-epicatechin methyl ester (5), kaempferol (6), quercetin (7), mangiferin (8), chlorogenic acid (9), 1,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid (10), 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid (11), 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid methyl ester (12), 1-O-caffeoyl glycoside (13), 4-O-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-caffeic acid (14), 3'-O-methyleplcatechin-7-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside (15), hop-22(29)-en-30-ol (16) and diploptene (17), were isolated from the whole plant of Pyrrosia calvata (Backer) Ching. Among them, compounds 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 13 and 14 were isolated from the family Polypodiaceae for the first time, and compound 5 has not been recorded previously from the genus Pyrrosia.

INTRODUCTION: Asian and American ginsengs are widely used medicinal materials and are being used more and more in health products. The two materials look alike but function differently. Various forms of both types of ginseng are found in the market, causing confusion for consumers in their choice. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the overall quality of commercial Asian and American ginsengs and investigate the characteristic chemical markers for differentiating between them. METHODS: This article investigated 17 Asian and 21 American ginseng samples using an ultra-HPLC combined with quadrupole time-of-flight MS/MS technique. The data were processed by principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squared discriminant analysis. RESULTS: In the chromatograms, a total of 40 peaks were detected. Among them, six were positively identified, and all of the remainder were tentatively identified. According to statistical results, ginsenosides Rf, Rb2 and Rc together with their isomers and derivatives were more likely to be present in Asian ginsengs, whereas ginsenoside Rb1 , pseudoginsenoside F11 and ginsenoside Rd together with their isomers and derivatives tended to be present in American ginsengs. For Asian ginsengs, ginsenoside Ra3 and 20-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-ginsenoside-Rf were more likely to be present in forest samples, whereas contents of floralquinquenoside B, ginsenosides Ro and Rc, and zingibroside R1 were higher in sun-dried ginsengs. For American ginseng, wild samples often had more of the notoginsenosides R1 and Rw2 and less of the ginsenosides Rd, Rd isomer and 20 (S)-Rg3 than cultivated samples. CONCLUSION: The method provided important fingerprint information for authentication and evaluation of Asian and American ginsengs from various commercial products.

The root and rhizome of Panax ginseng C.A. Mey, known as ginseng, is a commonly used medicinal plant. Ginsenosides are the major active components responsible for the tonic effects of this herb. Here, the combination of laser microdissection and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography quadrupole/time of flight-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) was applied to investigate the localization of ginsenosides in root and rhizome of P. ginseng. Five kinds of tissue cells were separated from the rhizome, main root and branch root of ginseng. Fifty-nine ginsenosides were identified and the results showed that the cork contained more kinds of ginsenosides than did the cortex, phloem, xylem and resin canals. It is interesting that the phloem, xylem and resin canals from branch root contained a greater number of ginsenosides than did from main root. This study provides solid evidence on the accumulation of ginsenosides in cork, cortex, phloem and xylem.
