RESUMO

Objective: To observe the impact of a clinical nursing teaching model based on institutional collaboration on the teaching quality of nursing programs in colleges and universities and the effectiveness of undergraduate practical nurses in practice. Methods: One hundred and twenty-three undergraduate student nurses graduating from June 2020 to July 2021 were selected for the study, 59 of whom received the traditional teaching model (control group) and 64 of whom received the institutional cooperative teaching model (research group). Upon completion of their internship, a clinical nursing skills assessment was conducted for the two groups, and the clinical internship performance was evaluated using the self-assessment scale of clinical practice behavior performance of nursing undergraduates. A teaching evaluation questionnaire was used to survey the intern nurses' evaluation of the teaching model and their satisfaction with the teaching model was surveyed in the middle and after the completion of the internship, respectively. Upon completion of the internship, the intern nurses filled out a self-satisfaction evaluation form. Results: The research group had a lower failure rate than the control group and a higher excellent rate than the control group (P < .05). There were no differences in the scores of the professional and self-development domains between the two groups (P > .05), while for all other clinical placement performances, the scores were higher in the research group than in the control group (P < .05). In addition, the research group had higher subject presentation, post-lesson acquisition, total score, and teaching satisfaction than the control group (P < .05). In terms of self-satisfaction, the number of satisfied intern nurses was also higher than the control group (P < .05). Conclusion: The reform of clinical nursing teaching mode based on institutional cooperation can effectively improve the quality of nursing teaching in universities and the effectiveness of undergraduate practical nursing.

RESUMO

This study investigated the potential role of curcumin (CUR) in preventing oxidative stress and ferroptosis induced by ammonia exposure in gibel carp. Experimental fish (initial weight: 11.22 ± 0.10 g, n = 150) were fed diets supplemented with or without 0.5% CUR for 56 days, followed by a 24 h ammonia (32.5 mg/L) exposure. Liver damages (aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), adenosine deaminase (ADA), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)) and oxidative stress enzyme activities (reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA); and the content of antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx)) were induced by ammonia stress. The antioxidant capacity was decreased, as indicated by inhibited gene expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (ho-1), catalase (cat), and sod. Ferroptosis was induced by ammonia stress, as suggested by upregulated mRNA levels of nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (ncoa4), transferrin receptor 1 (tfr1), and iron-responsive element-binding protein 2 (ireb2), and downregulated expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (gpx4), ferroportin (fpn), and ferritin heavy chain 1 (fth1). In addition, both mRNA and protein levels of ferroptosis markers acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) were upregulated, while cystine/glutamate antiporter (SLC7A11) was downregulated. However, liver injury and ferroptosis in fish induced by ammonia could be attenuated by CUR. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that CUR ameliorates oxidative stress and attenuates ammonia stress-induced ferroptosis. This study provides a new perspective on potential preventive strategies against ammonia stress in gibel carp by dietary CUR.

RESUMO

Cardiovascular disease caused by atherosclerosis (AS) seriously affects human health. Photothermal therapy (PTT) brings hope to the diagnosis and treatment of AS, with the development of nanotechnology. To improve treatment efficiency, self-assembled CuCo2S4 nanocrystals (NCs) were developed as a drug-delivery nanocarrier, triggered by near-infrared (NIR) light for efficient chemophotothermal therapy of arterial inflammation. The as-prepared self-assembled CuCo2S4 NCs exhibited excellent biocompatibility and a very high chloroquine (CL)-loading content. In addition, the self-assembled CuCo2S4 NCs/CL nanocomposites showed good photothermal performance, due to strong absorption in the NIR region, and the release of CL from the NCs/CL nanocomposites was driven by NIR light. When illuminated by NIR light, both PTT from the NCs and chemotherapy from the CL were simultaneously triggered, resulting in killing macrophages with a synergistic effect. Moreover, chemo-photothermal therapy with CuCo2S4 NCs/CL nanocomposites showed an effective therapeutic effect for arterial inflammation, in vivo. Our work demonstrated that chemo-photothermal therapy could be a promising strategy for the treatment of arterial inflammation against atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Three unprecedented indole alkaloids, wincalines A-C (1-3), and four known ones (4-7), classified into six carbon skeletal types, were isolated from the leavesof Winchia calophylla. The new isolates including their absolute configurations were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic methods, the X-ray diffraction analyses, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) experiments, as well as comparison with literature data. Wincaline A (1) is a rare indole alkaloid zwitterion bearing a 5,5-spirocyclic moiety. A possible biosynthetic pathway for 1 was proposed. All compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory effects in terms of nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Nevertheless, compound 7 showed weak activity with 43% NO production inhibition rate at 100 µM.

RESUMO

Previous studies have found that vitamin C (VC) has protective effects in fish. However, the efficacy of VC on hypoxia-induced liver injury in fish remains unknown. Therefore, to investigate the protective mechanism of VC on liver injury after acute hypoxic stimulation in fish, gibel carp were fed a diet containing VC for eight weeks, then were subjected to acute hypoxia stimulation. The specific growth rate of fish was increased by the supplementation of VC. Plasma stress markers (glucose, lactic acid, and cortisol) were decreased by the VC supplementation. Moreover, the levels of the inflammatory cytokines (tnf-α, il-2, il-6, and il-12) were increased by enhancing the Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. Upregulation of the antioxidant enzymes activity (CAT, SOD, and GPx); T-AOC; and anti-inflammatory factors (il-4 and tgf-ß) highlighted the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of VC. The results showed that VC reduced the apoptotic index of the fish hypothalamus. The expression of GRP78 protein in the liver and endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis induced by hypoxia were inhibited by VC. Taken together, the results indicate that VC can attenuate oxidative damage, inflammation, and acute hypoxia induced apoptosis in gibel carp via the Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. The results identify a new defense strategy of gibel carp in response to hypoxic conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which ranks only second to viral hepatitis and poses an increasingly serious challenge to global public health and economy. NAFLD has attracted more and more attention, but there is no drugs with exact curative effects are available. The commonly used drugs for the treatment of NAFLD in clinical practice are statins, such drugs, inevitably increase the burden on the live. Compared to statins, traditional Chinese medicines are believed to be "all natural" with fewer side effects, are associated with strong patient compliance. Accordingly, a great deal of clinical studies have shown that Xuefu Zhuyu decoction (XFZYD) can significantly improve the clinical symptoms and enhance the therapeutic effect. Meanwhile, a system review and meta-analysis are conducted by us to further clarify the effectiveness and safety of XFZYD for NAFLD. METHODS: We will apply to database mainly range from the English literature searches Cochrane Library, PubMed, excerpt medica database, and Web of Science to the Chinese literature China national knowledge infrastructure, Chinese biomedical literature database, VIP, and Wanfang database, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are enrolled to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of XFZYD in the treatment of NAFLD, the enrollment of RCTs is from the establishment of the database to February 01, 2021. Simultaneously we will retrieval clinical registration tests and grey literatures. The 2 researchers worked independently on literature selection, data extraction, and quality assessment. The dichotomous data is expressed in terms of relative risk, the continuous is represented by mean difference or standard mean difference, whether there is heterogeneity is the factor that determines the synthesis of data in fixed effect model or random effect model. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) or Aspartic acid aminotransferase (AST) coupled with Glutamyltransferase (GGT) is considered as one of the main indicators of the NAFLD, while the pathology, imaging and diagnosis of metabolic syndrome are also auxiliary results. The last, meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan software version 5.3. RESULTS: This study will provide evidence for treatment of NAFLD with XFZYD in terms of effectiveness and safety. CONCLUSION: This systematic review aims to confirm the efficacy and safety of XFZYD in the treatment of NAFLD. OSF REGISTRATION NUMBER: DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/7CWRK.

RESUMO

Osteoarthritis (OA) is an increasingly prevalent disease affecting synovial joints, which includes joint degeneration, inflammation, and joint pain. The activation of nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain-like receptor containing protein 3 (NLRP3) could promote synovial inflammation. Previous studies have shown that electroacupuncture (EA) has potential anti-inflammatory effect. However, the effect of EA treatment on OA remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of applied EA on OA and joint pain and its relationship with NLRP3 inflammasome. The Hartley guinea pigs with naturally occurring OA at age 18 months were chosen as the OA model and treated with EA for 4 weeks. Mechanical allodynia was quantified by using von Frey filaments. The expression of NLRP3 inflammasome and the downstream proinflammatory factors in the cartilage tissue were quantified. Our results showed that EA treatment significantly reduces mechanical allodynia, improves the articular cartilage structure, and decreases the fibrillation on the cartilage surface in guinea pigs with spontaneous osteoarthritis. Moreover, we also found that EA treatment attenuates the NLRP3 inflammasome activation and suppresses the protein expression levels of caspase-1 and IL-1ß in the cartilage tissue. Our findings suggest that EA treatment attenuates OA and joint pain by suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation and support further investigation of the potential therapeutic tactics.

RESUMO

AIMS: Qishen Yiqi dripping pills (QSYQ) may be beneficial in patients with ischaemic heart failure (IHF). We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of QSYQ administered together with guideline-directed medical therapy in patients with IHF. METHODS AND RESULTS: This prospective randomized, double-blind, multicentre placebo-controlled study enrolled 640 patients with IHF between March 2012 and August 2014. Patients were randomly assigned to receive 6 months of QSYQ or placebo in addition to standard treatment. The primary outcome was 6 min walking distance at 6 months. Among the 638 IHF patients (mean age 65 years, 72% men), the 6 min walking distance increased from 336.15 ± 100.84 to 374.47 ± 103.09 m at 6 months in the QSYQ group, compared with 334.40 ± 100.27 to 340.71 ± 104.57 m in the placebo group (mean change +38.32 vs. +6.31 m respectively; P < 0.001). The secondary outcomes in composite clinical events, including all-cause mortality and emergency treatment/hospitalization due to heart failure, were non-significantly lower at 6 months with QSYQ compared with placebo (13% vs. 17%; P = 0.45), and the change of brain natriuretic peptide was non-significantly greater with QSYQ compared with placebo (median change -14.55 vs. -12.30 pg/mL, respectively; P = 0.21). By contrast, the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire score significantly improved with QSYQ compared with placebo (-11.78 vs. -9.17; P = 0.004). Adverse events were minor and infrequent with QSYQ, similar to the placebo group. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with QSYQ for 6 months in addition to standard therapy improved exercise tolerance of IHF patients and was well tolerated.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent articular disease in the elderly. We aimed to explore the role of cordycepin (COR) in the progression and development of osteoarthritis and its correlation with TGF-ß activity and autophagy. METHODS: Sprague Dawley rats were induced by anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) to establish knee osteoarthritis model. To investigate the role of COR in knee osteoarthritis, rats were injected with 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg of COR before joint surgery. After surgery, paw withdrawal mechanical threshold (PWMT) was performed. HE staining and Alcian blue staining were carried out to detect cartilage damage. ELISA was used to detect the level of TGFß in the serum. Protein expression was analyzed by Western blotting. RESULTS: In this study, we found that the PWMT of rats with osteoarthritis induced by ACLT was decreased significantly, accompanied by obvious histological and cartilage damage. After different doses of COR treatment, the PWMT of osteoarthritis rats induced by ACLT was increased in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, compared with the control group, COR treatment also reversed the effect of ACLT on cartilage injury in rats. Furthermore, the level of TGF-ß in serum of ACLT rats was increased significantly, which may be related to the overexpression of TGF-ß R1. However, the increase of serum TGF-ß level in ACLT rats was reversed by COR treatment in a dose-dependent manner. It is worth noting that TGF-ß overexpression reduced the proportion of autophagy-related protein LC3-II/I, thus inhibiting autophagy. In order to further confirm the effect of TGF-ß on autophagy, TGF-ß was overexpressed or the autophagy inhibitor 3-MA was applied. The results showed that TGF-ß overexpression and 3-MA treatment reversed the effect of COR on autophagy. CONCLUSION: In summary, our findings declared that COR alleviated ACLT-induced osteoarthritis pain and cartilage damage by inhibiting TGF-ß activity and inducing autophagy in rat model with knee osteoarthritis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) on treating insomnia in patients with depression. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a patient-assessor-blind, randomized and sham controlled trial, 90 depression patients with insomnia were assigned into three different groups, receiving EA in the treatment group, superficial acupuncture at sham points in the control group A, or Streitberger non-insertion sham acupuncture in the control group B. Treatment was applied 3 times weekly for 8 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Secondary outcomes were sleep parameters including sleep efficiency (SE), total sleep time (TST) and numbers of sleep awakenings (SA) recorded in the actigraphy, as well as applying the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAMA). Assessments were performed at the baseline (week 0), week 4, week 8, and week 12. Linear mixed-effects models were used for analyses and all statistical tests were two-sided. RESULTS: Patients in the EA group had more significant improvement in PSQI scores than those in the control groups over time (respectively p<0.001 and p=0.04 for treatment and time interaction). At 8-week posttreatment, the EA group reported a reduction of -6.64 points in PSQI scores compared with -2.23 points in the control group A (95% CI= -5.74 to -2.39) and -2.94 points in the control group B (95% CI= -5.73 to -2.47). Compared with the two control groups, significant between-group differences were seen in SE (both p<0.01) and TST (both p<0.01) at week 8; similar results can be found in HAMD-17, SDS, and HAMA scores as well. However, there were no between-group differences in SA (respectively p=0.24 and p=0.08) after 8-weeks of treatment. CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture may improve the sleep quality of patients with depression. RESUMO

Astragali Radix is commonly used as bulk medicinal materials. Chinese Pharmacopoeia contains about 150 compound preparations of Astragali Radix, but the sample preparation method under the determination of Astragali Radix content in Chinese Pharmacopoeia is tedious and time-consuming, not convenient for the test of a large number of samples. Therefore, it is of great significance to simplify the sample preparation method and improve the practicability of the method for the quality control of Astragali Radix and its preparations. In this study, ultrasonic extraction method was used instead of heated reflux extraction, and solid phase extraction method was used to enrich and prepare the samples. A set of practical quality evaluation method was established for Astragali Radix slices and standard decoction, greatly shortening the sample preparation time and improving the accuracy of the method. The results of Astragali Radix standard decoction analysis showed that the transfer rate of calycosin 7-O-ß-D-glucospyranoside,(96.5±28.7)%, had great variation, which was found to be related to the conversion of mulberry isoflavone glucoside into calycosin 7-O-ß-D-glucospyranoside during the preparation of standard decoction. The transfer rates were(59.4±14.4)% and(101.3±12.3)% for calycosin and astragaloside Ⅳ respectively, which were relatively stable. Therefore, it is suggested that Astragali Radix slices and water decoction preparations should be evaluated by using calycosin and astragaloside Ⅳ as the quality evaluation index. The results provide a scientific and practical method for quality control of Astragali Radix slices and its standard decoction, and also provide scientific evidence for quality evaluation of the preparations.

RESUMO

Pyricularia oryzae is the causal agent of blast disease on staple gramineous crops. Sulphur is an essential element for the biosynthesis of cysteine and methionine in fungi. Here, we targeted the P. oryzae PoMET3 encoding the enzyme ATP sulfurylase, and PoMET14 encoding the APS (adenosine-5'-phosphosulphate) kinase that are involved in sulfate assimilation and sulphur-containing amino acids biosynthesis. In P. oryzae, deletion of PoMET3 or PoMET14 separately results in defects of conidiophore formation, significant impairments in conidiation, methionine and cysteine auxotrophy, limited invasive hypha extension, and remarkably reduced virulence on rice and barley. Furthermore, the defects of the null mutants could be restored by supplementing with exogenous cysteine or methionine. Our study explored the biological functions of sulfur assimilation and sulphur-containing amino acids biosynthesis in P. oryzae.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on the pain behavior and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) in the spinal cord dorsal horn and dorsal root ganglia (DRG) of rats with knee osteoarthritis (KOA), so as to explore the mechanisms of EA underlying improvement of chronic pain in KOA rats. METHODS: Thirty-two female SD rats were randomly divided into blank group, control group, model group and EA group, with 8 rats in each group. Rats in the control group were injected with 50 µL of 0.9% sodium chloride solution into the left knee joint cavity, and rats in the model and EA groups were injected with 50 µL of Monosodium iodoacetate in the left knee joint. EA(2 Hz/100 Hz, <2 mA) was applied to left "Yanglingquan"(GB34) and "Neixiyan" (EX-LE4) for 15 min, once daily, 5 days a course with a total of 2 courses. Paw withdrawal latency (PWL) and mechanical pain threshold (PWT) were tested by Plantar Test and Von Frey, separately. After the last pain test, the contents of PGE2, CGRP and SP in the left lumbar (L) 3-L5 DRG and L3-L5 spinal dorsal horn were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Compared with the blank group, the PWL and PWT of the rats in the model group were significantly decreased (P<0.01), and the contents of PGE2, CGRP and SP in the DRG and spinal dorsal horn were significantly increased (P<0.01, P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in PWL, PWT, contents of PGE2, CGRP and SP in DRG and spinal dorsal horn between the blank group and the control group (P>0.05). Compared with the model group, the PWL and PWT of rats in the EA group were significantly increased (P<0.01), and the contents of PGE2, CGRP and SP in the DRG and spinal dorsal horn were significantly decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: EA of GB34 and EX-LE4 can reduce the levels of pain-related factors PGE2, CGRP and SP in the DRG and spinal dorsal horn, thereby relieving spinal hyperalgesia in rats with KOA.

RESUMO

Indigo naturalis (IN) is a traditional Chinese medicine, named Qing-Dai, which is extracted from indigo plants and has been used to treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in China and Japan. Though there are notable effects of IN on colitis, the mechanisms remain elusive. Regarding the significance of alterations of intestinal flora related to IBD and the poor water solubility of the blue IN powder, we predicted that the protective action of IN on colitis may occur through modifying gut microbiota. To investigate the relationships of IN, colitis, and gut microbiomes, a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mice colitis model was tested to explore the protective effects of IN on macroscopic colitis symptoms, the histopathological structure, inflammation cytokines, and gut microbiota, and their potential functions. Sulfasalazine (SASP) was used as the positive control. Firstly, because it was a mixture, the main chemical compositions of indigo and indirubin in IN were detected by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). The clinical activity score (CAS), hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining results, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) results in this study showed that IN greatly improved the health conditions of the tested colitis mice, ameliorated the histopathological structure of the colon tissue, down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines, and up-regulated anti-inflammatory cytokines. The results of 16S rDNA sequences analysis with the Illumina MiSeq platform showed that IN could modulate the balance of gut microbiota, especially by down-regulating the relative quantity of Turicibacter and up-regulating the relative quantity of Peptococcus. The therapeutic effect of IN may be closely related to the anaerobic gram-positive bacteria of Turicibacter and Peptococcus. The inferred metagenomes from 16S data using PICRUSt demonstrated that decreased metabolic genes, such as through biosynthesis of siderophore group nonribosomal peptides, non-homologous end-joining, and glycosphingolipid biosynthesis of lacto and neolacto series, may maintain microbiota homeostasis during inflammation from IN treatment in DSS-induced colitis.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Sleep disorders including insomnia occur frequently in depressive patients. Acupuncture is a widely recognised therapy to treat depression and sleep disorders in clinical practice. This multicentre randomised controlled trial (RCT) is aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of depression patients with insomnia. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We describe a protocol for a multicentre RCT. A total of 270 eligible patients in three different healthcare centres in Shanghai will be randomly assigned to one of these three groups: treatment group (EA + standard care), control A group (sham electroacupuncture + standard care) and control B group (standard care). Treatment will be given three times per week for 8 consecutive weeks. The primary outcome is the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The secondary outcomes are sleep parameters recorded in the actigraphy, Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression score and Self-rating Anxiety Scale score. Daily dose of patients' antidepressant and sedative-hypnotic medication will be recorded in the dairy. All adverse effects will be assessed by the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale. Outcomes will be evaluated at baseline, 4 weeks post-treatment and 8 weeks post-treatment, as well as at 1-month, 3-month and 6-month follow-up. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The trial has been approved by the Ethics Committee of Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2017SHL-KY-04). Written informed consent will be obtained from all participants. The results of this study will be published in peer-reviewed journals or presented at academic conferences. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT03122080; Pre-results.

RESUMO

Gracilistones A (1) and B (2), two new eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids with an unusual tetrahydrofuran-fused 6/6/5 tricyclic ring system, were obtained from Acanthopanax gracilistylus under the guidance of LC-MS investigation. Their structures and absolute configurations were assigned by extensive spectroscopic analyses and quantum calculation methods. Compounds 1 and 2 showed potent inhibitory activity against LPS-induced nitric oxide production in RAW 264.7 macrophages, compared with the positive control L-NMMA. In addition, compounds 1 and 2 were also evaluated for their antioxidant (DPPH• and ABTS•+) and xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activities, and they exhibited weak inhibitory effects at 100 µM.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical efficacy of navigation-guided minimally invasive surgery in patients with hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage. METHODS: A total of 64 patients with hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage were enrolled in this retrospective study. They were divided into a navigation group and a traditional group based on surgical approaches. The data for the 2 groups of patients were analyzed with regard for the hematoma clearance rate, duration of surgery, duration of hospitalization, Glasgow Outcome Scale score at discharge, Barthel index score at 6 months, and postoperative complication rates for rebleeding and pneumonia. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in basic characteristics between the 2 groups (P > 0.05). The hematoma clearance rate was significantly lower in the navigation group (49.18 ± 16.76%) than in the traditional group (84.29 ± 6.91%, P < 0.01). The duration of surgery and duration of hospitalization were significantly shorter in the navigation group (55.00 ± 11.89 minutes and 24.25 ± 7.1 days, respectively) than in the traditional group (156.38 ± 47.9 minutes and 32.63 ± 9.8 days, respectively; both P < 0.01). There were also significant differences between the 2 groups in Glasgow Outcome Scale scores (P = 0.006). The Barthel index scores were significantly greater in the navigation group (73.13 ± 18.76) than in the traditional group (57.63 ± 26.63, P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in the complication rates (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Under certain conditions, compared with standard craniotomy and hematoma evacuation, navigation-guided hematoma puncture aspiration and catheter drainage is simple, effective, and safe as a treatment for hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Ligularia przewalskii (Maxim.) Diels (LP) (called zhangyetuowu in Chinese), is generally found in moist forest areas in the western regions of China. The root, leaves and flower of LP are utilized as a common traditional medicine in China. It has been utilized conventionally in herbal remedies for the remedy of haemoptysis, asthma, pulmonary phthisis, jaundice hepatitis, food poisoning, bronchitis, cough, fever, wound healing, measles, carbuncle, swelling and phlegm diseases. AIM OF THE STUDY: The review aims to provide a systematic summary of LP and to reveal the correlation between the traditional uses and pharmacological activities in order to provide updated, comprehensive and categorized information and identify the therapeutic potential for its use as a new medicine. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The relevant data were searched by using the keywords "Ligularia przewalskii" "phytochemistry", "pharmacology", "Traditional uses", and "Toxicity" in "Scopus", "Scifinder", "Springer", "Pubmed", "Wiley", "Web of Science", "China Knowledge Resource Integrated databases (CNKI)", "Ph.D." and "M.Sc. dissertations", and a hand-search was done to acquire peer-reviewed articles and reports about LP. The plant taxonomy was validated by the databases "The Plant List", "Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae", "A Collection of Qinghai Economic Plants", "Inner Mongolia plant medicine Chi", Zhonghua-bencao and the Standard of Chinese herbal medicine in Gansu. RESULTS: Based on the traditional uses, the chemical nature and biological effects of LP have been the focus of research. In modern research, approximately seventy-six secondary metabolites, including thirty-eight terpenoids, nine benzofuran derivatives, seven flavonoids, ten sterols and others, were isolated from this plant. They exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-bacterial and anti-tumour effects, and so on. Currently, there is no report on the toxicity of LP, but hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (HPA) were first detected with LC/MSn in LP, and they have potential hepatotoxicity. CONCLUSIONS: The lung-moistening, cough-relieving and phlegm-resolving actions of the root of LP are attributed to the anti-inflammatory properties of flavonoids and terpenoids. The heat-clearing, dampness-removing and gallbladder-normalizing (to cure jaundice) actions of the flowers of LP are based on the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity properties of terpenoids, flavonoids and sterols. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) characteristics of LP (bitter flavour) corroborate its potent anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, the remarkable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities of LP contribute to its anti-tumour and antitussive activities. Many conventional uses of LP have now been validated by modernized pharmacological research. For future research, further phytochemical and biological studies need to be conducted on LP, In particular, the safety, mechanism of action and efficacy of LP could be of future research interest before beginning clinical trials. More in vivo experiments and clinical studies are encouraged to further clarify the relation between traditional uses and modern applications. Regarding the roots, leaves and flowers of LP, their chemical compositions and clinical effects should be compared. The information on LP will be helpful in providing and identifying its therapeutic potential and economic value for its use as a new medicine in the future.
