RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cinnabaris (α-HgS), a mineral traditional Chinese material medica, has been used in combination with other herbs manifesting some definite therapeutic effects for thousands of years. But the currently reported mercury poisoning incidents raised the doubts about the safety of Cinnabaris-containing traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Baizi Yangxin Pills (BZYXP) is a Cinnabaris-containing TCM widely used in clinical practice. This study evaluated the health risk of mercury exposure from BZYXP in healthy volunteers based on the total mercury and mercury species analysis of blood and urine after single and multiple doses of BZYXP. METHODS: Blood pharmacokinetics and urinary excretion studies of mercury were compared between single (9 g, once daily) and multiple doses (9 g, twice daily, continued for 7 days) of BZYXP. The whole blood and urine samples were collected at the specific points or periods after the administration of BZYXP. The total mercury and mercury species in blood and urine samples were determined by cold vapor-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV-AFS) and HPLC-CV-AFS, respectively. RESULTS: The mercury was excreted slowly and accumulated obviously after continuous exposure of BZYXP. Moreover, the well-known neurotoxin methylmercury (MeHg) was detected in blood samples after 7 days' administration of BZYXP. In the urine samples, only Hg(II) was detected. Therefore, long-term use of BZYXP will cause mercury poisoning due to mercury's high accumulative properties and MeHg formation. CONCLUSION: Cinnabaris-containing TCMs such as BZYXP should be restricted to cases in which alternatives are available, and the blood mercury species profile should be monitored during the long-term clinical medication.

RESUMO

In this work, the influence of different phosphorus sources and the modification of zinc and phosphorus on the performance of the conversion of methanol to aromatics (MTA) was investigated. The results showed that the phosphorus source had a significant impact on the selectivity of para-xylene (PX) in xylene and catalyst stability. The introduction of P resulted in the covering of the active acid sites and the narrowing of the pore of the ZSM-5 zeolite, which improved the shape-selectivity for PX in the methanol conversion reaction. Compared with the modifiers of H3PO4 and (NH4)3PO4, the ZSM-5 zeolite modified by (NH4)2HPO4 exhibited better catalyst stability and PX-selectivity due to its larger specific surface area, pore volume and suitable acidity. When the ZSM-5 zeolite was modified by Zn and P, the effect of Zn and P on the selectivity to aromatics and PX in xylene was almost opposite. With the increase in P-loading, the selectivity of PX in xylene gradually increased but at the cost of decreasing the aromatic-selectivity. On the other hand, the loading of Zn introduced Zn-Lewis acid sites to provide aromatization active centers and improved the aromatic-selectivity. However, excessive Zn reduced the selectivity of PX in xylene. The catalyst activity and aromatic-selectivity could be improved to some extent with an appropriate ratio of Zn and P, while maintaining or increasing the para-selectivity of xylene. Compared with 5% P/ZSM-5 catalyst modified with only (NH4)2HPO4, the PX selectivity in xylene over the Zn-P/ZSM-5 catalyst modified with 5% Zn and 1% P improved from 86.6% to 90.1%, and the PX yield increased by 59%.

RESUMO

There are many different planting methods for crops, however it is very important to improve the distribution ratio of elements in different organs of crops. Therefore, to understand the effect of different planting patterns on crop element balance, we selected Cyperus esculentus continuous cropping (CC) and C. esculentus - wheat rotation cropping (RC). The leaves, tubers, roots, and soil samples were taken at the mowing time (August 1st, on the 81st day after seed sowing; August 24th, on the 105th day after seed sowing; September 16th, on the 128th day after seed sowing). Results showed that CC and RC had significant effects on soil SO42- and Cl-. With the mowing time, the relative abundance of TN (total nitrogen) in tubers showed an increasing trend, the relative richness of TN in roots decreased, and the relative content of TN in leaves showed no change in the trend under the two planting modes. CC significantly increased the TN/TP (total phosphorus) of leaves, roots, and tubers. However, RC significantly increased the AN (available nitrogen)/AP (available phosphorus) of soil. The random forest analysis (RF) showed that abiotic factors contributed the most to TN/TK (total potassium) of roots, followed by TN/TK of tubers and TP/TK of roots. We found that abiotic factors had no significant impact on TP/TK of leaves and TN/TP of tubers. As expected, different planting patterns alter the plant's N (nitrogen)/P (phosphorus)/K (potassium), which in turn may modify N and P conservation strategies.

RESUMO

Musicianship can mitigate age-related declines in audiovisual speech-in-noise perception. We tested whether this benefit originates from functional preservation or functional compensation by comparing fMRI responses of older musicians, older nonmusicians, and young nonmusicians identifying noise-masked audiovisual syllables. Older musicians outperformed older nonmusicians and showed comparable performance to young nonmusicians. Notably, older musicians retained similar neural specificity of speech representations in sensorimotor areas to young nonmusicians, while older nonmusicians showed degraded neural representations. In the same region, older musicians showed higher neural alignment to young nonmusicians than older nonmusicians, which was associated with their training intensity. In older nonmusicians, the degree of neural alignment predicted better performance. In addition, older musicians showed greater activation in frontal-parietal, speech motor, and visual motion regions and greater deactivation in the angular gyrus than older nonmusicians, which predicted higher neural alignment in sensorimotor areas. Together, these findings suggest that musicianship-related benefit in audiovisual speech-in-noise processing is rooted in preserving youth-like representations in sensorimotor regions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) had not yet been approved therapy. Electro-acupuncture (EA) has been reported to have potential efficacy. However, high-quality clinical evidence was still lacking. METHODS: NASH patients were randomized and allocated to either sham acupuncture (SA) or EA group in a 1:1 ratio, with the patient blinded. Each patient received 36 sessions of SA or EA treatment over 12 weeks, followed by additional 4 weeks. The primary outcome was the changes in relative liver fat content measured by magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF). RESULTS: A total of 60 patients were enrolled. From baseline to week 12, the reduction of relative liver fat content measured by MRI-PDFF in the EA group (- 33.6%, quantile range: - 52.9%, - 22.7%) was significantly more significant than that in the SA group (- 15.8%, quantile range: - 36.1%, - 2.7%) (p = 0.022). Furthermore, the EA group had more patients who achieved MRI-PDFF to 30% reduction at week 12 (53.3% vs. 25.9%, p = 0.035). EA treatment also significantly reduced body weight (- 3.0 vs. + 0.1 kg, p = 0.034) and BMI (- 1.5 vs. - 0.2 kg/m2, p = 0.013) at week 16. Except for AST (- 27.4 vs. - 16.2 U/L, p = 0.015), other biochemical varieties, including ALT, fasting-glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride, showed no statistically significant difference. Both groups measured no significant changes in liver stiffness by magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). There were no serious adverse events in either group. CONCLUSIONS: Twelve weeks of EA effectively and safely reduces relative liver fat content in NASH patients. Further multicenter randomized controlled studies are needed. RESUMO

The immobilization of microorganisms on high-quality and inexpensive carriers to remediate oil-contaminated soil is an effective strategy for contaminated soil remediation. Due to the abundance in nutrients, large specific surface area, and fewer pathogens, the composting sludge is considered a high-quality immobilized material. Herein, two non-ionic surfactants, TW-80 and sophorolipid, were used to modify composted sludge. High-efficiency petroleum hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria groups selected in the laboratory were fixed on the modified composting sludge under optimal conditions. The immobilized material was placed in the soil contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons at an additive amount of 2wt/%, and a simulated remediation experiment was performed for 90 days. Both soil properties and microbial structure were characterized. Surfactant-modified compost sludge enhances the adsorption capacity to petroleum hydrocarbon. The immobilized microorganisms in the modified compost sludge showed a good effect on the remediation of soil contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons. In addition, immobilized materials also increase the diversity of the microbial community structure in the soil. High-efficiency petroleum hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria immobilized on surfactant-modified compost can effectively promote the degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil and increase the abundance of microorganisms in the soil. It shows the feasibility of eco-friendly remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.

RESUMO

The applications of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) essential oil (CEO) are limited by instability, low solubility and high volatility. The present study aimed to improve the properties of CEO by microencapsulation with cyclodextrin metal organic frameworks (ß-CD-MOFs) to enhance the preservation effects on Chinese bacon (preserved meat products). The microencapsulated CEO by ß-CD-MOFs (CEO/ß-CD-MOFs) not only did not inhibit the antioxidant activities of CEO, but also showed significant improvements on their ROS scavenging abilities and thermo-/pH-stabilities. The increases of superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities were 20.74% and 12.84%, respectively. In addition, less lipid oxidation, including malondialdehyde (MDA) contents and peroxide values (POV), of Chinese bacon was found after the CEO/ß-CD-MOFs treatment than CEO and synthetic antioxidant (BHT) treatments. These results suggested the enhanced preservation effects of microencapsulated CEO on the processing of Chinese bacon and the great potential of ß-CD-MOFs as carriers for essential oils in food industry applications.

RESUMO

A pair of differential epimers with opposite C-7 configurations, crenatosides A and B (1 and 2), and 10 known phenylethanoid glycosides (PhGs) (3-12) were obtained from the succulent stem of Cistanche tubulosa. The structures were elucidated based on extensive spectral data (UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESIMS), which are first reported natural products with unique glycoside structures. After acid hydrolysis, the configuration of the sugar was determined by comparing it with the normative sugar by HPLC. The absolute configurations of both compounds were determined by ECD spectrum analysis. All the obtained compounds were examined for their inhibitory effect on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in mouse microglial cells (BV-2 cells), and compounds 1 and 2 showed potent inhibition on NO production with IC50 values of 5.62 µM and 6.30 µM, respectively.

RESUMO

In order to enhance the degradation effect of microorganisms on crude oil in the existence of chlorophenol compounds, oil-degrading bacteria C4 (Alcaligenes faecails), C5 (Bacillus sp.) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) degrading bacteria L3 (Bacillus marisflavi), L4 (Bacillus aquimaris) were isolated to construct a highly efficient consortium named (C4C5 + L3L4). When the compound bacteria agent combination by VC4: VC5: VL3: VL4 = 1:2:2:1, the crude oil degradation efficiency of 7 days was stable at 50.63% ~ 55.43% under different conditions. Degradation mechanism was analyzed by FTIR, GC-MS and IC technology and the following conclusions showed that in the system of adding consortium (C4C5 + L3L4), the heavy components were converted into saturated and unsaturated components. The bacterial consortium could first degrade medium and long chain alkanes into short chain hydrocarbons and then further degrade. And the dechlorination efficiency of 2,4-DCP in the degradation system reached 73.83%. The results suggested that the potential applicability and effectiveness of the selected bacteria consortium for the remediation of oil-contaminated water or soil with the existence of chlorophenol compound.

RESUMO

Viewing speaker's lip movements facilitates speech perception, especially under adverse listening conditions, but the neural mechanisms of this perceptual benefit at the phonemic and feature levels remain unclear. This fMRI study addressed this question by quantifying regional multivariate representation and network organization underlying audiovisual speech-in-noise perception. Behaviorally, valid lip movements improved recognition of place of articulation to aid phoneme identification. Meanwhile, lip movements enhanced neural representations of phonemes in left auditory dorsal stream regions, including frontal speech motor areas and supramarginal gyrus (SMG). Moreover, neural representations of place of articulation and voicing features were promoted differentially by lip movements in these regions, with voicing enhanced in Broca's area while place of articulation better encoded in left ventral premotor cortex and SMG. Next, dynamic causal modeling (DCM) analysis showed that such local changes were accompanied by strengthened effective connectivity along the dorsal stream. Moreover, the neurite orientation dispersion of the left arcuate fasciculus, the bearing skeleton of auditory dorsal stream, predicted the visual enhancements of neural representations and effective connectivity. Our findings provide novel insight to speech science that lip movements promote both local phonemic and feature encoding and network connectivity in the dorsal pathway and the functional enhancement is mediated by the microstructural architecture of the circuit.

RESUMO

Cisplatin is widely used in the treatment of solid tumors, but its application is greatly limited due to its nephrotoxicity; thus, there is still no effective medicine for the treatment of cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (Cis-AKI). We previously identified that polydatin (PD) exerts nephroprotective effects by antioxidative stress in AKI models. Recent evidence suggests that oxidative stress-induced molecular events overlap with the process of ferroptosis and that there are common molecular targets, such as glutathione (GSH) depletion and lipid peroxidation. Nevertheless, whether the nephroprotective effect of PD is related to anti-ferroptosis remains unclear. In this study, the inhibitory effect of PD on ferroptosis was observed in both cisplatin-treated HK-2 cells (20 µM) in vitro and a Cis-AKI mouse model (20 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) in vivo, characterized by the reversion of excessive intracellular free iron accumulation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, a decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) content and GSH depletion, and an increase in glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPx4) activity. Remarkably, PD dose-dependently alleviated cell death induced by the system Xc- inhibitor erastin (10 µM), and the effect of the 40 µM dose of PD was more obvious than that of ferrostatin-1 (1 µM) and deferoxamine (DFO, 100 µM), classical ferroptosis inhibitors. Our results provide insight into nephroprotection with PD in Cis-AKI by inhibiting ferroptosis via maintenance of the system Xc--GSH-GPx4 axis and iron metabolism.

RESUMO

The quality evaluation of hawthorn leaves in different geographical regions derived from the dried leaves of Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. Var. Major N.E.Br. or Crataegus pinnatifida Bge., a common blood-activating and stasis-eliminating traditional Chinese medicine, has hardly been reported. In this study, the chemical comparison of 40 batches of hawthorn leaf samples collected from Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong and Shanxi Provinces was performed using an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry-based metabolic profile and pattern recognition analysis approach. A total of 233 compounds were determined. Among them, 40 compounds were selected as potential metabolites responsible for the differential clustering, and the differential metabolite-based evaluation model was applied to well distinguish the origin of seven batches of hawthorn leaves sold on the market. Further analysis of the KEGG pathway showed that five core metabolites containing flavonoids and lignins were mainly involved in flavonoid biosynthesis, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis, and stilbenoid, diarylheptanoid and gingerol biosynthesis. Taking the content of flavonoids, core markers, as the evaluation basis, it was found that the quality of hawthorn leaves in Hebei and Liaoning was better. The study provides a reference for the rational utilization of hawthorn leaves, and highlights that the metabolomics-driven analysis method is more suitable for the quality evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To verify the clinical effect of acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS: Forty-two patients with KOA were randomly divided into an acupuncture group (21 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a sham acupuncture group (21 cases, 1 case dropped off). The patients in the acupuncture group were treated with routine acupuncture at 5-6 local acupoints [Dubi (ST 35), Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Heding (EX-LE 2), Yinlingquan (SP 9), Xuehai (SP 10), Zusanli (ST 36), etc.] and 3-4 distal acupoints [Fengshi (GB 31), Waiqiu (GB 36), Xuanzhong (GB 39), Zulinqi (GB 41), etc.]. The patients in the sham acupuncture group were treated with shallow needling technique at non-acupoint. The needles were retained for 30 min in both groups. All the treatment was given three times a week for 8 weeks. Knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) were recorded before and after treatment and 18-week follow-up. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the scores of 5 dimensions of KOOS [pain, symptoms (except pain), daily activities, sports and entertainment, and quality of life] were increased after treatment and during follow-up in the two groups (P<0.05), and the scores of pain and daily activities in the acupuncture group were higher than those in the sham acupuncture group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture can reduce the pain symptoms and improve daily activities in patients with KOA.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction (PGD) is one of the most common complications in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. Acupuncture has been used widely in gastrointestinal diseases due to its effectiveness and minimally invasive nature. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the efficacy of using transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) during the surgery and postoperative recovery in patients with gastric and colorectal surgery for improving postoperative gastrointestinal function. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS: A total of 280 patients undergoing abdominal surgery were stratified by type of surgery (i.e., gastric or colorectal surgery) and randomly allocated into the TEAS group (group T) or the sham group (group S). Patients in group T received TEAS at LI4, PC6, ST36 and ST37. Patients in group S received pseudo-TEAS at sham acupoints. The stimulation was given from 30 min before anesthesia until the end of surgery. The same treatment was performed at 9 am on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd days after surgery, until the recovery of flatus in patients. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcome was the time to the first bowel motion, as detected by auscultation. The secondary outcomes included the first flatus and ambulation time, changes of perioperative substance P (SP), incidence of PGD, postoperative pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and some economic indicators. RESULTS: The time to first bowel motion, first flatus and first ambulation in group T was much shorter than that in group S (P < 0.01). In patients undergoing colorectal surgery, the concentration of SP was lower in group T than in group S on the third day after the operation (P < 0.05). The average incidence of PGD in all patients was 25%, and the frequency of PGD was significantly lower in group T than in group S (18.6% vs. 31.4%, respectively; P < 0.05). TEAS treatment (odds ratio = 0.498; 95% confidence interval: 0.232-0.786) and type of surgery were relevant factors for the development of PGD. Postoperative pain score and PONV occurrence were significantly lower in group T (P < 0.01). Postoperative hospitalization days and the resulting cost to patients were greatly reduced in the TEAS group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Perioperative TEAS was able to promote the recovery of postoperative gastrointestinal function, reduce the incidence of PGD and PONV. The concentration of SP was decreased by TEAS treatment, which indicates that the brain-gut axis may play a role in how TEAS regulates gastrointestinal function. RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Speech comprehension under "cocktail party" scenarios deteriorates with age even in the absence of measurable hearing loss. Musical training is suggested to counteract the age-related decline in speech-in-noise (SIN) perception, yet which aspect of musical plasticity contributes to this compensation remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of musical experience and aging on SIN perception ability. We hypothesized a key mediation role of auditory working memory in ameliorating deficient SIN perception in older adults by musical training. DESIGN: Forty-eight older musicians, 29 older nonmusicians, 48 young musicians, and 24 young nonmusicians all with (near) normal peripheral hearing were recruited. The SIN task was recognizing nonsense speech sentences either perceptually colocated or separated with a noise masker (energetic masking) or a two-talker speech masker (informational masking). Auditory working memory was measured by auditory digit span. Path analysis was used to examine the direct and indirect effects of musical expertise and age on SIN perception performance. RESULTS: Older musicians outperformed older nonmusicians in auditory working memory and all SIN conditions (noise separation, noise colocation, speech separation, speech colocation), but such musician advantages were absent in young adults. Path analysis showed that age and musical training had opposite effects on auditory working memory, which played a significant mediation role in SIN perception. In addition, the type of musical training did not differentiate SIN perception regardless of age. CONCLUSIONS: These results provide evidence that musical training offsets age-related speech perception deficit at adverse listening conditions by preserving auditory working memory. Our findings highlight auditory working memory in supporting speech perception amid competing noise in older adults, and underline musical training as a means of "cognitive reserve" against declines in speech comprehension and cognition in aging populations.

RESUMO

Realgar, an arsenic-containing traditional Chinese medicine of As2S2, has significant therapeutic effects for hundreds of years. NiuHuangJieDu tablets (NHJDT) is one of the most commonly prescribed realgar-containing preparations for the treatment of sore throat, swelling, and aching of gums. However, realgar-containing TCMs raise great safety concerns due to the adverse effects reported by arsenic poisoning. In this study, the arsenic-related health risk assessment of NHJDT was conducted in healthy volunteers after single and multiple doses oral administration. Blood, plasma, and urine samples were collected after dosing at predetermined time points or periods. Simple, rapid, and sensitive methods were established for the quantification of total arsenic and arsenic speciation in biological samples. The total arsenic and arsenic speciation were determined by hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS) and high-performance liquid chromatography-hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HPLC-HG-AFS), respectively. No significant fluctuation of total arsenic was observed in human blood, and no traces of arsenic speciation were found in human plasma. Dimethylarsenic acid was detected as the predominated arsenic species in human urine after dosing. Therapeutic dose administration of NHJDT was relatively safe in single dose for the limited blood arsenic exposure, but long-term medication may still pose health risks due to the accumulation of arsenics in blood and its extremely slow excretion rate. Therefore, arsenic exposure should be carefully monitored during realgar-containing TCM medication, especially for long-term regimen. The results obtained in this study will provide scientific references for the clinical application of realgar and its-containing TCMs.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease is a common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly. This study explored the curative effect and possible mechanism of Acori graminei rhizoma on Alzheimer's disease. In this paper, 8 active components of Acori graminei rhizoma were collected by consulting literature and using the TCMSP database, and 272 targets were screened using the PubChem and Swiss Target Prediction databases. Introduce it into the software of Cytoscape 3.7.2 and establish the graph of "drug-active ingredient-ingredient target." A total of 276 AD targets were obtained from OMIM, Gene Cards, and DisGeNET databases. Import the intersection targets of drugs and diseases into STRING database for enrichment analysis, and build PPI network in the Cytoscape 3.7.2 software, whose core targets involve APP, AMPK, NOS3, etc. GO analysis and KEGG analysis showed that there were 195 GO items and 30 AD-related pathways, including Alzheimer's disease pathway, serotonin synapse, estrogen signaling pathway, dopaminergic synapse, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. Finally, molecular docking was carried out to verify the binding ability between Acori graminei rhizoma and core genes. Our results predict that Acori graminei rhizoma can treat AD mainly by mediating Alzheimer's signal pathway, thus reducing the production of Aß, inhibiting the hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, regulating neurotrophic factors, and regulating the activity of kinase to change the function of the receptor.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most prevalent malignancy affecting the oral cavity and is associated with severe morbidity and high mortality. 1, 6-O, O-Diacetylbritannilactone (OODBL) isolated from the medicinal herb of Inula britannica has various biological activities such as anti-inflammation and anti-cancer. However, the effect of OODBL on OSCC progression remains unclear. Here, we were interested in the function of OODBL in the development of OSCC. METHODS: The effect of OODBL on OSCC progression was analyzed by MTT assays, colony formation assays, transwell assays, apoptosis analysis, cell cycle analysis, and in vivo tumorigenicity analysis. The mechanism investigation was performed by qPCR assays, Western blot analysis, and luciferase reporter gene assays. RESULTS: We found that OODBL inhibits the proliferation of OSCC cells in vitro. Moreover, the migration and invasion were attenuated by OODBL treatment in the OSCC cells. OODBL arrested cells at the G0/G1 phase and induced cell apoptosis. OODBL was able to up-regulate the expression of LXRα, ABCA1, and ABCG1 in the system. In addition, OODBL activated LXRα/ABCA1 signaling by targeting miR-1247-3p. Furthermore, the expression levels of cytochrome c in the cytoplasm, cleaved caspase-9, and cleaved caspase-3 were dose-dependently reduced by OODBL. Besides, OODBL increased the expression ratio of Bax to Bcl-2. Moreover, OODBL repressed tumor growth of OSCC cells in vivo. DISCUSSION: Thus, we conclude that OODBL inhibits OSCC progression by modulating miR-1247-3p/LXRα/ABCA1 signaling. Our finding provides new insights into the mechanism by which OODBL exerts potent anti-tumor activity against OSCC. OODBL may be a potential anti-tumor candidate, providing a novel clinical treatment strategy of OSCC.

RESUMO

Introduction. Stable angina (SA) in coronary heart disease is a common ischemic heart disease endangering the patient's quality of life and longevity. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the Chinese herbal formula Xuefu Zhuyu (XFZY) has benefits for SA patients. However, there remains a lack of high-quality evidence to support clinical decision-making. Therefore, we designed a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of XFZY for SA. Methods and Analysis. This multicenter, double-blinded RCT will be conducted in China. 152 eligible participants will be randomly assigned to either an XFZY group or a control group at a 1 : 1 ratio. Participants in the XFZY group will receive XFZY plus routine care, while those in the control group will receive placebo plus routine care. The study period is 26 weeks, including a 2-week run-in period, a 12-week treatment period, and a 12-week follow-up. The primary outcome is the change in visual analogue scale score for angina pain intensity from baseline to 12 weeks. The secondary outcomes are the angina attack frequency and duration, the nitroglycerin dosage consumed, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society grading of effort angina, the Seattle Angina Questionnaire, the EuroQol-5-Dimensions-5-Level, the incidence of major adverse cardiac events, health cost evaluation, and overall assessment for study drugs. Ethics and Dissemination. The study has been approved by the ethics committee of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine (approval no. BF2019-175-01). Results will be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and disseminated at scientific conferences. This trial is registered with ChiCTR1900026899, registered on 26 October 2019.
