RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: To explore the rules of acupoint selection in the treatment of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) with acupuncture and moxibustion by using data mining technology. METHODS: The clinical research literature on acupuncture treatment of MAFLD was collected from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database and China Biology Medicine from their inception to November 20, 2022. According to our inclusion and exclusion criteria, the literature was independently screened and re-screened by two research members, and the screened results were checked, followed by establishing an acupoint prescription database using Excel 2019. Descriptive statistics of acupoints applied frequency, involved meridians, locations and specific acupoints were perpormed. Then, SPSS Modeler18.0 software was used to conduct analysis about association rules, and the SPSS Statistics 26.0 software was used to perform cluster analysis on high-frequency acupoints, exploring the characteristics and rules of acupoint selection and combination in the treatment of MAFLD. RESULTS: Totally, 178 papers were collected, containing 130 acupoints, with a total application frequency of 1 305. The top five acupoints are Zusanli (ST36), Fenglong (ST40), Ganshu (BL18), Taichong (LR3) and Sanyinjiao (SP6). The commonly involved meridians are the Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming, Bladder Meridian of Foot Taiyang, and Spleen Meridian of Foot Taiyin. The employed acupoints are mostly located in the lower limbs and abdomen, and the five Shu acupoints and crossing acupoints are in the majority. The association rule analysis of high frequency acupoints indicated that of the 16 qualified acupoint groups, the top 5 with close correlation degrees are ST36 and ST40, ST36 and LR3, ST36 and SP6, ST40 and LR3 and ST36, ST36 and SP6 and ST40. Further, 3 effective clusters were obtained by cluster analysis. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of MAFLD follows the therapeutic principles of soothing the liver, invigorating the spleen, tonifying the kidney, and resolving phlegm and removing dampness. The core acupoint group is ST36, ST40 and LR3, and the combination of acupoints is based on syndrome differentiation. These results may provide a useful reference for clinical practice.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of moxibustion at Baihui (CV20) combined with acupuncture in treatment of cervical vertigo. METHODS: From the databases, such as CNKI, VIP, WanFang, CBM, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase, the studies of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on moxibustion at CV20 combined with acupuncture for cervical vertigo were searched from inception to September 15th, 2021. The Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool was utilized to evaluate the quality of the included literature. Using RevMan5.3, Stata12.0 and TSA0.9.5.0 10 Beta software, the Meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA) were performed. RESULTS: Seventeen RCTs with 1 232 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that in the trial group (moxibustion at CV20 combined with acupuncture), the total effective rate (RR=1.17, 95%CIï¼»1.12, 1.22ï¼½, P<0.000 1), the curative and remarkably-effective rate (RRï¼1.28ï¼95%CIï¼»1.20ï¼1.36ï¼½ï¼P<0.000 1) and the score of cervical vertigo (WMD=2.88, 95%CIï¼»1.87, 3.89ï¼½, P<0.000 1) were all better when compared with the control group (simple acupuncture or electroacupuncture group). The results of trial sequential analysis indicated that for the cumulative Z-score of each RCT, the Z-curve crossed the conventional test boundary and TSA boundary, which further confirmed the clinical efficacy of moxibustion at CV20 combined with acupuncture on cervical vertigo. CONCLUSION: The clinical efficacy of moxibustion at CV20 combined with acupuncture is determined in treatment of cervical vertigo.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with Zhuang-medicine-thread moxibustion on expression of apoptosis-related factors in gastric antrum of diabetic gastroparesis (DGP) rats, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of DGP. METHODS: Male SD rats were randomly divided into normal, model, medication, EA, Zhuang-medicine-thread moxibustion (moxibustion) and EA+moxibustion (combination) groups (12 rats in each group). The DGP model was established by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ). Rats of the medication group were treated by gavage of 0.15 mg/mL mosapride citrate suspension ï¼10 mL/kgï¼. EA (10 Hz/50 Hz, 2 mA, 20 min) or Zhuang-medicine-thread moxibustion (3 cones) was applied to "Zhongwan" (CV12), bilateral "Neiguan" (PC6) and bilateral "Sanyinjiao" (SP6) of the related groups, once a day for 3 weeks. The blood glucose, gastric emptying rate and intestinal propulsion rate of rats were measured. The apoptosis index of gastric antrum cells were observed by TUNEL staining. The protein and mRNA expressions of Caspase-3, B-cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 (Bcl-2) and Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax) in gastric antrum were detected by Wes-tern blot and real-time quantitative PCR, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, the blood glucose, the apoptosis index, the protein and gene expressions of Caspase-3 and Bax were significantly increased (P<0.01), and the gastric emptying rate, intestinal propulsive rate, the protein and gene expressions of Bcl-2 were considerably decreased (P<0.01) in the model group. In contrast to the model group, the blood glucose in the EA, moxibustion and combination groups, the apoptosis index in the 4 treatment groups, as well as Caspase-3 protein, Bax protein and mRNA expressions in the medication, EA and combination groups, Caspase-3 protein and mRNA, Bax mRNA expressions in the moxibustion group were significantly decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05); while the gastric emptying rate and intestinal propulsive rate in the 4 treatment groups, and Bcl-2 protein and mRNA expressions in the medication and combination groups, Bcl-2 mRNA expressions in the EA and moxibustion groups were obviously increased (P<0.01). The effects of EA+moxibustion were significantly superior to those of simple EA, moxibustion or medication in increasing gastric emptying rate and intestinal propulsive rate, and in lowering blood glucose (P<0.05, P<0.01). And the effects of the combination treatment were better than those of EA in lowering Caspase-3 protein and Bax mRNA expressions (P<0.01), and in increasing Bcl-2 protein and mRNA expressions (P<0.05, P<0.01). Also the effects of the combination treatment were better than those of moxibustion in lowering the apoptosis index, Caspase-3 protein, and Bax protein and mRNA expressions (P<0.01, P<0.05), and in increasing Bcl-2 protein expression (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: EA combined with Zhuang-medicine-thread moxibustion can reduce blood glucose and improve gastrointestinal motility in DGP rats, which may be related to its effect in regulating of Caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2 expression.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of ZHU Lian inhibition type â acupuncture for acne with spleen-stomach dampness-heat, and to explore its possible action mechanism. METHODS: A total of 82 patients of acne with spleen-stomach dampness-heat were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 41 cases in each group. The patients in the control group were treated with danshentong capsules (1 g, 3 times per day) and 0.1% adapalene gel smear (once every night) for 4 weeks. The patients in the observation group were treated with ZHU Lian inhibition type â acupuncture at Hegu (LI 4), Neiting (ST 44), Quchi (LI 11), Yangbai (GB 14), Sibai (ST 2), Qihai (CV 6), Xuehai (SP 10), Yinlingquan (SP 9) and skin lesions, once every other day, 7 times as a course of treatment, totaling for 2 courses of treatment. The skin lesion score of the global acne grading system (GAGS) and quality of life-acne (Qol-Acne) score as well as the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment; the clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups, and the recurrence rate was evaluated 4 weeks after treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, the skin lesion scores of GAGS in the two groups were reduced (P<0.05), and the score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the Qol-Acne scores were increased in the two groups (P<0.05), and the score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The serum levels of TNF-αand IL-6 in the two groups were reduced after treatment (P<0.05), and those in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 95.1% (39/41) in the observation group, which was higher than 82.9% (34/41) in the control group (P<0.05). Four weeks after treatment, the recurrence rate of acne lesions was 10.3% (4/39) in the observation group, which was lower than 32.4% (11/34) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: ZHU Lian inhibition type â acupuncture is effective for acne with spleen-stomach dampness-heat, and the recurrence rate is low. Its mechanism may be related to the reduction of serum inflammatory factor TNF-α and IL-6.

Binding-fixation is the most commonly used method for acupuncture research in rats, but its resulted stronger stress response may affect the experimental outcomes. Hence, we developed a practical fixing device using the abandoned meshy cage covers, bolts, hooks, and loop fasteners. It includes two straps, two ropes, a small jacket with a self-locking Velcro strap and a meshy cage cover with a piece of fixed Velcro which may be placed on a rectangular storage box. Rats can be fixed in a recumbent position or a prone position. Outcomes showed that it is not only convenient and cheaper but also has a higher successful rate of fixation and a longer fixation time for completing an experiment.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Zhuang-medicine medicated-thread moxibustion therapy on interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the gastric antrum of diabetic gastroparesis (DGP) rats, so as to investigate its mechanism underlying improving DGP. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: control (n = 30) , model (n = 30) and moxibustion (n = 30). The DGP model was established by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) and by feeding the rats with high fat-sugar forage. Zhuang-medicine medicated-thread moxibustion was applied to "Zhongwan" (CV 12), bilateral "Pishu" (BL 20), "Weishu" (BL 21), "Neiguan" (PC 6) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) once per day, for 3 weeks except weekends. The gastrointestinal propulsion rate and weight of stool in 24 h were determined, and c-kit (a marker for ICC) expression of the gastric antrum tissue was measured by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The stool weight was significantly higher in the model group than in the control group (P < 0.01), but the rate of gastrointestinal propulsion and the rate of c-kit immunoreaction (IR) positive cells in the gastric antrum tissue were significantly lower in the model group than in the control group (P < 0.01). After moxibustion, the increased stool weight and the decreased gastrointestinal propulsion rate and decreased c-kit IR-positive cell rate were reversed (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Zhuang-medicine medicated-thread moxibustion therapy can improve gastrointestinal function in DGP rats, which may be associated with its effect in up-regulating the expression of c-kit IR-positive ICC.

It is held by some of the researches that the "16 collaterals" is composed of the "15 collaterals" and "the major collateral of stomach". And it is included into the textbook that Xuli, the major collateral of stomach, is the pulsation point at the cardiac region. Xuli is often explained as the empty portion of the human body by many researches. Through analysis and summarization of the related theory of the major collateral of stomach, the above mentioned opinion is discussed. And the understanding on the major collateral of stomach is deepened. As a result, it is concluded that count the major collateral of stomach into the 16 collaterals together with the 15 collaterals is inadvisable. The real pulsation point at the cardiac region locates under the left breast. And the real meaning of Xuli is "extending in all directions".

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of drug-paste separated moxibustion of "Mingmen" (GV 4) on the levels of serum estrogen (E2) and progesterone (P) and their endometrial receptor mRNA expression in rats with primary dysmenorrhea in order to investigate its mechanism underlying improvement of primary dysmenorrhea. METHODS: A total of 100 female SD rats were randomized into control, model, medication, acupuncture and moxibustion groups, with 20 rats in each group. Primary dysmenorrhea model was established by subcutaneous injection of Benzestrofol for 10 days and intraperitoneal injection of Oxytocin for 1 d. Rats of the medication group were fed with extractum leonuri inspissatum (8 g/100 g) and those of the moxibustion group treated with drug-paste separated moxibustion at "Mingmen" (GV 4). For rats of the acupuncture group, a filiform needle was inserted into GV 4, manipulated for a while and retained for 30 min. The treatment of the latter 3 groups was conducted once daily for 7 days. The rat's body-writhing latency and times during 30 min were recorded. The contents of serum E2 and P were detected by ELISA, and the expression of estrogen receptor (ER) mRNA and progesterone receptor (PR) mRNA in the endometrium was determined by quantitative real-time (RT)-PCR. RESULTS: (1) The body-writhing latency was shorter and the writhing times were more in the model group than in the control group (P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, the body-writhing latency was significantly increased and the writhing times were obviously decreased in the medication, acupuncture and moxibustion groups (P < 0.01). There were no significant differences among the medication, acupuncture and moxibustion groups in the body-writhing latency (P > 0.05), but the body-writhing numbers of the acupuncture and moxibustion groups were markedly lower than that of the medication group (P < 0.01). (2) Compared with the control group, serum E2 content and endometrial ER mRNA expression level were significantly increased, and serum P content and endometrial PR mRNA level evidently decreased in the model group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). In comparison with the model group, serum E2 contents and endometrial ER mRNA expression levels were considerably down-regulated, and serum P contents and endometrial PR mRNA expression levels markedly up-regulated in the medication, acupuncture and moxibustion groups (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The effects of the moxibustion group were significantly superior to those of the acupuncture and medication groups, and those of the acupuncture group were also significantly superior to those of the medication group in lowering E2 and endometrial ER mRNA levels, and raising serum P and endometrial PR mRNA expression levels (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Drug-paste separated moxibustion of GV 4 is effective in relieving pain in primary dysmenorrheal rats, which is probably associated with its effects in down-regulating serum E2 content and endometrial ER mRNA expression, and up-regulating serum P and endometrial PR mRNA expression levels.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the influence of moxibustion at Shenque (CV 8) point on aging and its mechanism. METHODS: Forty-eight health rabbits were randomly divided into 8 groups, ie., group I (normal control group), group II (model group), group III (prevention with moxibustion at Shenque (CV 8) group), group lY (prevention with moxibustion both at Shenque (CV 8) and Zusanli (ST 36) group), group V (prevention with moxibustion both at Shenque (CV 8) and Mingmen (GV 4) group), group VI (treatment with moxibustion at Shenque (CV 8) group), group XII (treatment with moxibustion both at Shenque (CV 8) and Zusanli (ST 36) group), and group VIII (treatment with moxibustion both at Shenque (CV 8) and Mingmen (GV 4) group). The rabbit models of kidney-yang deficiency were created by pouring Hydroxyurea. The serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was detected and the effect of the moxibustion from both prevention and treatment aspects were compared. And then the effect of different compatibility of acupoints was observed. RESULTS: After modeling, obvious symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency and decrease of SOD activity (all P < 0.01) were found in groups II, VI, VII and VIII. After the moxibustion treatment, the syndromes of kidney-yang deficiency were significantly improved (all P < 0.01) and SOD activities were increased obviously in groups VI, VII and VIII (all P < 0.01); a few syndromes of kidney-yang deficiency were found in groups III, IV and V after modeling, but with no significant changes of SOD activity (all P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in three moxibustion treatment groups (all P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Three acupoints compatibilities of moxibustion treatment can all regulate serum SOD activity in rabbits with kidney-yang deficiency effectively and have the significant effect both at prevention and treatment aspects and there is close relationship between their mechanisms on aging and regulating serum SOD activity.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the therapeutic effect of acupuncture with Ling gui Ba fa (method for picking eight points linked with extraordinary meridians according to time) for treatment of chronic superficial gastritis (CSG) of liver-stomach disharmony type. METHODS: Sixty cases were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with Ling gui Ba fa and acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6) and Taichong (LR 3); the control group was treated with routine acupuncture at Zusanli (ST 36), Zhongwan (CV 12), Taichong (LR 3), Neiguan (PC 6), Ganshu (BL 18) and Weishu (BL 21), 3 times a week, 10 times constituted one course. After two courses of treatment, the clinical and gastroscopy effects were evaluated. RESULTS: The clinical curative rate of 66.7% (20/30) in observation group was superior to that of 26.7% (8/30) in control group (P < 0.01); the gastroscopy curative rate of 66.7% (20/30) in observation group was superior to that of 23.3% (7/30) in control group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The clinical effect and gastroscopy examination of the acupuncture with Ling gui Ba fa are superior to those of routine point selection for treatment of CSG of liver-stomach disharmony type.

UNLABELLED: OBJECTIVE To compare anti-oxidative effects of acupuncture at different Shichen (traditional twelve two-hour periods) accordin-17:00), You (17:00-19:00), Xu (19:00-21:00), Hui (21:00-23:00) periods according to the eight methods of the intelligent turtle, once each day, for 7 consecutive days. Changes of malondialdehyde (MDA) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity after treatment were observed. RESULTS: SOD activities and MDA contents at the 12 periods were different in the healthy guinea pigs, SOD activity at Wu period was the highest and the lowest at Zi period; MDA content was the highest at Zi period and the lowest at Wu period. The needling method according to eight methods of the intelligent turtle could increase SOD activity in the guinea pigs. The increasing amplitude of SOD activity was the largest at Mao period and the smallest at the Wu period; it also could decreased MDA content, the decreasing amplitude of MDA was the largest at Wu period and the smallest at Hai period. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture at different periods according to eight methods of intelligent turtle has different effects on serum SOD and MDA, which can increase SOD activity and decrease MDA content in the healthy guinea pig.

OBJECTIVE: To observe effects of moxibustion according to opening points on time in eight methods of intelligent turtle on aging and the mechanism. METHODS: Healthy and adult guinea pigs were randomly divided into 5 groups, a prevention group of kidney-yang deficiency model with eight method of intelligent turtle (group I), a prevention group of kidney-yang deficiency model (group II) with moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4), a group of treatment group of kidney-yang deficiency model with eight methods of intelligent turtle (group III), a treatment group of kidney-yang deficiency model (group IV) with moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4) and a control group of kidney-yang deficiency. Effects of moxibustion according to opening on time in eight methods of intelligent turtle and moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4) on superoxide dismulase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were compared. RESULTS: After modeling, no signs of kidney-yang deficiency and no significant changes of SOD and MDA were found in group I and II; but obvious symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency and decrease of SOD (P < 0.01) and increase of MDA (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05) were found in group III, IV and V; after treatment, in the group III); the symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency basically disappeared, SOD increased (P < 0.01) and MDA decreased (P < 0.01), with no significant differences as compared with those before modeling (P > 0.05); in the group N, the symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency significantly improved and SOD increased (P < 0.05) with difference as compared with those before modeling (P < 0.05), and MDA decreased (P < 0.05), but with no significant difference compared with that before modeling (P > 0.05); the symptoms of kidney-yang deficiency, SOD and MDA did not significantly change in group V (P > 0. 05). CONCLUSION: Both moxibustion according to opening points on time in eight methods of intelligent turtle and moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4) can effectively regulate free radical metabolism and have obvious action of preventing and treating kidney-yang deficiency in the model guinea pigs, and the therapeutic action of moxibustion according to opening points on time in eight methods of intelligent turtle is better than that of moxibustion at Mingmen (GV 4).
