RESUMO

According to the method of predicting the physical properties of oily powder based on the additive physical properties of Chinese medicinal powder, Dioscoreae Rhizoma and calcined Ostreae Concha with high sieve rate and good fluidity were mixed and crushed with Persicae Semen, Platycladi Semen, Raphani Semen, Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, and other typical oily materials with high fatty oil content in proportion to obtain 23 mixed powders. Fifteen physical properties such as bulk density, water absorption, and maximum torque force were measured, and the physical properties of typical oily powders were predicted. When the mixing and grinding ratio was in the range of 5∶1-1∶1, the r value in the correlation equation between the weighted average score of the mixed powder and the powder proportion ranged from 0.801 to 0.986, and the linearity was good, indicating that the method of predicting the physical properties of oily powder based on the additive physical properties of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)powder was feasible. The results of cluster analysis showed that the classification boundaries of the five kinds of TCM materials were clear, and the similarity of the physical fingerprints of powdery and oily materials decreased from 80.6% to 37.2%, which solved the problem of fuzzy classification boundaries of powdery and oily materials due to the lack of representativeness of oily material model drugs. The classification of TCM materials was optimized, laying a foundation for optimizing the prediction model of the prescription of personalized water-paste pills.

RESUMO

This study aimed to analyze the biological foundation and biomarkers of stable coronary heart disease(CHD) with phlegm and blood stasis(PBS) syndrome based on RNA-seq and network pharmacology. Peripheral blood nucleated cells from five CHD patients with PBS syndrome, five CHD patients with non-PBS syndrome, and five healthy adults were collected for RNA-seq. The specific targets of CHD with PBS syndrome were determined by differential gene expression analysis and Venn diagram analysis. The active ingredients of Danlou Tablets were screened out from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform, and the "component-target" prediction was completed through PubChem and SwissTargetPrediction. The "drug-ingredient-target-signaling pathway" network of Danlou Tablets against CHD with PBS syndrome was optimized by Cytoscape software. After the target biomarkers were identified, 90 participants were enrolled for diagnostic tests, and 30 CHD patients with PBS syndrome were included in before-and-after experiment to determine the therapeutic effect of Danlou Tablets on those targets. As revealed by RNA-seq and Venn diagram analysis, 200 specific genes were identified for CHD with PBS syndrome. A total of 1 118 potential therapeutic targets of Danlou Tablets were predicted through network pharmacology. Through integrated analysis of the two gene sets, 13 key targets of Danlou Tablets in the treatment of CHD with PBS syndrome were screened out, including CSF1, AKR1C2, PDGFRB, ARG1, CNR2, ALOX15B, ALDH1A1, CTSL, PLA2G7, LAP3, AKR1C3, IGFBP3, and CA1. They were presumably the biomarkers of CHD with PBS syndrome. The ELISA test further showed that CSF1 was significantly up-regulated in the peripheral blood of CHD patients with PBS syndrome, and was significantly down-regulated after Danlou Tablets intervention. CSF1 may be a biomarker for CHD with PBS syndrome, and it is positively correlated with the severity of the disease. The diagnostic cut-off of CSF1 for CHD with PBS syndrome was 286 pg·mL~(-1).

RESUMO

Coronary artery disease(CAD) caused by atherosclerosis(AS) is a major contributor to the global burden of disease. The pathogenesis of CAD is complex, and the subset and function of cardiac macrophages are important factors affecting the occurrence and development of AS and the prognosis of CAD. Recent studies have shown that some traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) formulas and active ingredients can regulate macrophage subsets involved in the inflammation, injury, and repair process of CAD. This paper summarized the significant role of macrophages in AS and myocardial infarction. Based on the plasticity of macrophages, this paper elaborated that traditional Chinese medicine prevented and attenuated AS by regulating macrophage subsets, reducing the level of inflammatory factors, and promoting macrophage autophagy.Traditional Chinese medicine participated in the cardiac repair process after myocardial infarction by accelerating the recruitment of M2 macrophages, inhibiting the polarization of M1 macrophages mediated by glycolysis, inhibiting M1 macrophage-mediated cardiac nerve remodeling, and promoting M2 macrophage-mediated angiogenesis. In addition, in vitro studies on the regulation of macrophage subsets by the active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine were also reviewed. It was pointed out that nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB), adenosine 5'-monophosphate(AMP)-activated protein kinase(AMPK), phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/Akt), chemokine(C-C motif) ligand 2/C-C chemokine receptor type 2(CCL2/CCR2) were the key targets and pathways for the regulation of macrophages by TCM.

RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of eight oral Chinese patent medicines in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD) by network Meta-analysis. Randomized controlled trial(RCT) on the treatment of AECOPD with eight oral Chinese patent medicines was retrieved from databases including CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Web of Science, EMbase, and Cochrane Library from database inception to August 6, 2022. The information was extracted from the included literature and the quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. The data were analyzed using Stata SE 15.1 and ADDIS 1.16.8 software. Finally, 53 RCTs were included, with 5 289 patients involved, including 2 652 patients in the experimental group and 2 637 patients in the control group. Network Meta-analysis showed that Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine were optimal in improving clinical effective rate, Shufeng Jiedu Capsules+conventional western medicine in improving FEV1/FVC, Qingqi Huatan Pills+conventional western medicine in improving FEV1%pred, Feilike Mixture(Capsules)+conventional western medicine in improving PaO_2, Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine in reducing PaCO_2, and Qingqi Huatan Pills+conventional western medicine in reducing C-reactive protein(CRP). In terms of safety, most of them were gastrointestinal symptoms, and no serious adverse reactions were reported. When the clinical effective rate was taken as the comprehensive index of efficacy evaluation, Lianhua Qingwen Capsules+conventional western medicine were the most likely to be the best treatment for AECOPD. There are some limitations in the conclusion of this study. It only provides references for clinical medication.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the value of pre-ablation stimulated thyroglobulin (psTg) before 131I treatment combined with lymph node ratio (LNR) in predicting 131I treatment response in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Methods:From January 2016 to December 2018, 178 PTC patients (47 males, 131 females; age (43.2±12.6) years) treated with 131I in the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University were retrospectively analyzed. According to 131I treatment response, patients were divided into excellent response (ER) group and non-ER group. The clinical data of the two groups were compared by χ2 test, independent-sample t test and Mann-Whitney U test. The cut-off values and AUCs of psTg and LNR to predict treatment response were calculated according to the ROC curve. Factors affecting 131I treatment response were analyzed by logistic multivariate regression analysis. Results:There were 118 patients (66.3%, 118/178) in ER group and 60 patients (33.7%, 60/178) in non-ER group, and there were significant differences in N stage ( χ2=11.15, P=0.004), 131I treatment dose ( χ2=12.65, P<0.001), American Thyroid Association (ATA) initial risk stratification ( χ2=15.25, P<0.001), number of metastatic lymph nodes ( χ2=22.63, P<0.001), LNR ( U=1 506.00, P<0.001) and psTg ( U=919.00, P<0.001) between the two groups. The cut-off values of psTg and LNR predicting ER were 3.97 μg/L and 0.29, with the AUC of 0.870 and 0.787 respectively. PsTg (odds ratio ( OR)=10.88, 95% CI: 4.67-25.36, P<0.001) and LNR ( OR=5.30, 95% CI: 1.85-15.23, P=0.002) were independent factors to predict 131I treatment response in PTC patients. When psTg≥3.97 μg/L, LNR ( OR=9.40, 95% CI: 2.06-42.92, P=0.004) was an independent factor affecting 131I treatment response in PTC patients. Conclusions:PsTg and LNR are independent factors affecting 131I treatment response in PTC patients. When psTg≥3.97 μg/L, LNR can be used as a supplementary factor to predict 131I treatment response. The combination of psTg and LNR can better predict 131I treatment response in PTC patients.

RESUMO

Connected ramets of colonal plants often suffer from different environmental conditions such as light, nutrient, and stress. Colonal Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon [L.] Pers.) can form interconnected ramets and this connection facilitates the tolerance to abiotic stress, which is a kind of physiological integration. However, how bermudagrass responds to heterogeneously distributed salt stress needs to be further elucidated. Here, we demonstrated that severance of stolons aggravated the damage of salt-stressed ramets, displaying higher relative electrolytic leakage (EL), lower content of chlorophyll, higher accumulation of Na+ , and serious oxidative damages. This finding implied the positive effects of the physiological integration of bermudagrass on salt tolerance. The unstressed ramets connected with the stressed one were mildly injured, implying the supporting and sacrifice function of the unstressed ramets. Physiological integration did not mediate the translocation of Na+ among ramets, but induced a higher expression of salt overly sensitive (SOS) genes in the stressed ramets, consequently reducing the accumulation of Na+ in leaves and roots. In addition, physiological integration upregulated the genes expression and enzymes activity of catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) in both stressed and unstressed ramets. This granted a stronger antioxidant ability of the whole clonal plants under salt stress. Enhanced Na+ transfer and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging are mechanisms that likely contribute to the physiological integration leading to the salt tolerance of bermudagrass.

RESUMO

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang for benign essential blepharospasm (BEB). Methods: A prospective randomized controlled trial was performed. A total of 105 participants were randomized 1:1:1 into an acupuncture group, a herbal medicine group and an acupuncture plus herbal medicine group. Participants in the acupuncture group received manual acupuncture treatment, twice a week. Participants in the herbal medicine group received Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang, oral administration, once a day. Participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group received both treatments. The therapeutic effects of the three groups were evaluated after four weeks of treatment. The primary outcome was the Jankovic rating scale (JRS) score, and the secondary outcome was the blepharospasm disability index (BSDI) score. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the JRS total scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05). A greater reduction in the JRS total score was reported in participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the herbal medicine group (P>0.05). The acupuncture plus herbal medicine group had a greater decrease in the JRS severity score than the herbal medicine group (P<0.05). The reduction in the JRS frequency score was not significantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). The BSDI scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05), but the reduction in the BSDI score was insignificantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: It is effective in the treatment of BEB either to use acupuncture and Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang alone or in combination. The combination therapy shows a more significant effect than either of the treatment alone.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: A specific and efficacious method for treatment of pneumonia-derived sepsis is lacking. Chengqi decoction has been used for treatment of pneumonia-derived sepsis, but a clinical trial on patients with pneumonia-derived sepsis is lacking, a gap in the literature that we sought to fill. Patients and Methods. 282 patients with pneumonia-derived sepsis admitted to the intensive care unit of our hospital were selected. They were divided into the treatment group (141 cases) and control group (141 cases). Both groups underwent conventional treatment, but Chengqi decoction (in the form of enema) was given to the treatment group. Mortality, morbidity (abdominal distension and gastrointestinal bleeding), duration of antibiotic use, and use of vasoactive agents were documented 28 days after the drug was used. RESULTS: The treatment group reduced mortality and morbidity (abdominal distension) (P < 0.05). After adjustment for significant covariates, 28-day survival was similar for the whole group (hazard ratio (HR): 0.48; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.23-0.97; P=0.037), for the subgroup (n = 120) with Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score ≥25 (HR: 0.180; 95% CI: 0.032-0.332; P=0.039) and for the subgroup (n = 66) with N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide <1800 (0.059, 0.004-0.979, and 0.019). There was no difference between the two groups for the duration of antibiotic use, major bleeding, or use of vasoactive drugs. CONCLUSIONS: Chengqi decoction improved 28-day survival and reduced the prevalence of abdominal distension in patients with pneumonia-derived sepsis.

RESUMO

This study aimed to elucidate the effective components of Shengxian Decoction and its mechanism of action in treating chronic heart failure. Firstly, UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS was established to identify the main chemical constituents in the rat serum after intragastric administration with Shengxian Decoction. Secondly, the absorbed components in serum were then used for the network pharmacology analysis to infer the mechanism and effective components. Targets for constituents in serum were predicted at TCMSP and Swiss-TargetPrediction database. An association network map was drawn by network visualization software Cytoscape 3.6.1. Finally, GO enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were carried out for the core target genes. By UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS, 18 prototype compounds were definitely identified, including five compounds from Astragali Radix, four compounds from Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, four compounds from Bupleuri Radix, four compounds from Cimicifugae Rhizoma, and one compound from Platycodonis Radix. Those components of Shengxian Decoction were closely associated with 13 key protein targets, including inflammatory factors, like IL6, IL1 B, TNF, PTGS2, IL10; redox enzymes CAT, HMOX1, and MPO; cardiovascular targets, like VEGFA, NOS3, and NOS2; and transmememial proteins CAV1 and INS. Network pharmacology analysis showed that the 18 compounds could be responsible for the treatment of chronic heart failure by regulating HIF-1 signaling pathways, PI3 K-Akt signaling pathways, cGMP-PKG signaling pathways, cAMP signaling pathways and TNF signaling pathways. This study provided a scientific basis for mechanism and effective ingredients of Shengxian Decoction.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: HIIT has recently been widely used for health promotion in healthy people and patients with chronic diseases. Exercise can help SUD reduce drug cravings, enhance mental health and return to normal life. However, whether HIIT can bring better physical rehabilitation benefits to individuals with SUD than MICT is unclear. The study aimed to compare the effects of HIIT versus MICT on the physical fitness of individuals with SUD. METHODS: One hundred twenty individuals with amphetamine-type stimulant dependence voluntarily participated in this study. They were randomly assigned to the HIIT group and MICT group. Both groups received training three times a week. The intervention lasted from January 2019 to December 2019. Physical fitness was assessed at the baseline, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months, including blood pressure (BP), vital capacity(VC), hand grip, push-up, sit-and-reach, one-leg standing with eyes closed and choice reaction time. The craving level was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale at baseline, 6 months and 12 months to see any change along with the improvement in physical fitness. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was applied to analyse the differences in change by group (HIIT and MICT) and time (baseline, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months). RESULTS: The within-group factor displayed significant changes in the HIIT and MICT groups in terms of systolic BP (F (4,336) = 12.799, P < 0.001,η2 = 0.204), diastolic BP (F(4,336) = 9.495, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.16), VC (F(4,336) = 18.121, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.177), hand grip (F(4,336) = 34.815, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.293), sit-and-reach (F(4,336) = 13.871, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.142), push-up (F(4,336) = 28.805, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.255), one-leg standing with eyes closed (F(4,336) = 14.495, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.156) and choice reaction time (F(4,336) = 20.603, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.197). The craving level decreased after 12 months of intervention in both groups (F(2,168) = 11.25, P < 0.001, η2 = 0.118), but no significant differences in physical fitness and craving level were found in between groups and the interactions of group × time. CONCLUSIONS: After 12 months of intervention, physical fitness improved while craving level decreased in the two groups. These findings suggest that both HIIT and MICT have positive effects on individuals with SUD in terms of physical fitness. RESUMO

Chinese medicinals feature different medicinal parts and enriched components, which makes their powders show obvious microscopic identification characteristics and specific physical properties. On this basis, the commonly used Chinese medicinals can be divided into several categories, such as powdery, fibrous, sugar, oil, and brittle materials, which is of great importance to the research and development of personalized Chinese medicinal preparation technology. However, the existing classification methods are highly subjective and thus difficult to meet the requirements for the development of personalized Chinese medicinal preparations with high quality. In this study, 55 representative Chinese medicinals, such as Dioscoreae Rhizoma and Leonuri Herba, were selected, and the physical properties of their powders were systematically characterized by comprehensive powder tester, torque rheometer, texture analyzer, etc., based on which a data set encompassing physical properties of these powders was built. The typical physical fingerprints of powders from the above 5 categories were established by multivariate statistical analysis. Then, the Chinese medicinals were classified according to the Euclidean distance between each of them and the typical value in the PCA score plot. For those with multiple material properties, whose classification boundary was fuzzy, the proportions of different types of materials were calculated with the combination of Euclidean distance, powder properties, microscopic identification characteristics, and chemical composition, so as to achieve the multivariate quantitative classification of Chinese medicinals. This lays the foundation for the further creation of intelligent personalized Chinese medicinal preparation technology.

RESUMO

Weeds is one of the important parts of agricultural ecosystem of Chinese materia medica. Weeds is a double-edged sword with advantages and disadvantages for the cultivated medicinal plants. In this study, we firstly analyzed the positive and negative effects of weeds on the yield and quality of Chinese materia medica. We then explored the possible mechanisms for the weeds' positive effects from the aspects of interspecific relationship, soil microecological environment, light environment, natural control of pests and so on. We also summarized three basic principles of weed control, that is, "making medicinal plants and weeds coexist harmoniously, achieving the overall optimum growth of medicinal plants", "prevention first, integrated control" and "preserving beneficial weeds and increasing their beneficial effects, removing harmful weeds and control their adverse effects". Finally, we introduced several common weed ecological control technology in field of the cultivated medicinal plants in China, including technology of controlling weeds by no-tillage, stral mulch, rotation, alternative herbs, competitive crops, and allelopathy. This study is aimed to apply the ecology theory to guide weed management and control, so as to achieve the goal of advantages promotion and disadvantages elimination of weeds to cultivated medicinal plants, making weeds into treasure and to promote the sustainable and healthy development of Chinese medicinal materials production and the protection of weed diversity.

RESUMO

It is crucial to establish a complete set of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) quality traceability management process system, in order to stabilize the pricing order of TCM market and reconstruct the transmission path of TCM quality signals. In this study, we reviewed the mature experience of food and drug supervision at home and abroad, analyzed the quality characteristics of TCM, and put forward that the quality control of TCM products can learn from the hazard analysis and critical control point(HACCP) system in food safety quality control. This study points out that the HACCP system provides not only technical guidance for the traceability management of TCM, but also ideas for improving the quality of TCM products and the safety risk control of TCM. The application of the HACCP system in TCM quality control can help establish an international dialogue platform for TCM and help realize the modernization and internationalization of TCM industry.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: From the perspective of β-amyloid (Aβ) toxicity and synaptic plasticity, the mechanism of electroacupuncture to improve learning and memory ability in the early pathological stages of Alzheimer's disease was explored. METHODS: Twelve male amyloid-protein precursor (APP)/γ-secretase (PS1) double transgenic AD mice were randomly and equally divided into electroacupuncture (EA) group and model group, and other 6 male C57BL/6 mice were used as the normal group. EA (1 Hz/50 Hz, 0.5 mA) was applied to "Baihui" (GV20) and bilateral "Yongquan"(KI1) for 15 min, once every other day for 6 weeks. Immunofluorescence was used to observe the positive expression of Aβ in the left hippocampus. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the positive expression of postsynaptic density-95 (PSD-95) in the left hippocampus. Western blot was used to detect the expression of PSD-95 and synaptophysin (SYN)in the right hippocampus. RESULTS: Immunofluorescence results showed that extracellular Aβ was seen in the model group and electroacupuncture group, but no senile plaques were seen. Compared with the normal group, the expression level of Aβ in the hippocampus of the model group increased significantly (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the expression of Aβ in the hippocampus of the EA group decreased (P<0.05). Immunohistochemical results showed that compared with the normal group, the PSD-95 positive expression in the model group was decreased(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the expression of PSD-95 in the EA group was increased (P<0.05). Western blot results showed that compared with the normal group, the expression levels of PSD-95 and SYN in the hippocampus of the model group were decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the expression levels of PSD-95 and SYN in the EA group were increased (P<0.05,P <0.01). CONCLUSION: EA can reduce the expression of Aβ in the hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice and increase the expression of PSD-95 and SYN, which may contribute to its effect in improving the synaptic plasticity.

RESUMO

Objective:To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture at Baihui (DU20) and Shenting (DU24) on brain function of APP/PS1 mice. Methods:Sixteen 4-month-old APP/PS1 mice in the same litter were randomly divided into model group (n = 8) and electroacupuncture group (n = 8). Eight transgenic negative mice in the same litter were as control group. The electroacupuncture group accepted electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shenting for 16 weeks. They were assessed with Object Recognition Test before and after intervention, and observed under small animal functional magnetic resonance imaging with regional homogeneity (ReHo) analysis. Results:Compared with the control group, the discrimination ratio decreased in the model group after intervention (P < 0.05), while it increased in the electroacupuncture group compared with that in the model group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, ReHo of right basal forebrain and left hippocampus decreased in the model group before intervention. Compared with the control group, ReHo decreased in bilateral hippocampus group and increased in retrosplenial cortex in the model group after intervention; while it increased in bilateral hippocampus and motor cortex and decreased in anterior cingulate gyrus in the electroacupuncture group compared with that in the model group. Conclusion:Electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shenting may delay the decline of learning and memory ability in Alzheimer's disease model mice, which may relate to the regulation of functional activities in hippocampus.

RESUMO

Objective:To observe the effect of electroacupuncture at Baihui (DU20) and Shenting (DU24) acupoints on white matter fiber and learning-memory function in rats with vascular dementia (VD). Methods:Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into operation group and sham group (n = 8). The operation group accepted two-vessel occlusion, while the sham group only separated the bilateral common carotid arteries without ligation. The rats modeled successfully were randomly divided into model group (n = 8), non-acupoint group (n = 8) and electroacupuncture group (n = 8). The electroacupuncture group accepted electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shenting, and the non-acupoint group accepted electroacupuncture at axillary non-acupoint, once a day for 28 days. All the rats were tested with object recognition test before and after intervention, while the white matter fibers were observed with Diffusion Tensor Imaging. Results:Compared with the sham group, the preference coefficients of the model group, the non-acupoint group and the electroacupuncture group decreased before intervention (P< 0.05), and there was no significant difference among the later three groups (P> 0.05). The preference coefficients increased in the electroacupuncture group compared with the model group after intervention (P< 0.05). The fractional anisotropy (FA) of corpus callosum, cingulate gyrus and hippocampus decreased in the model group, the non-acupoint group and the electroacupuncture group compared with the sham group before intervention. FA of hippocampus, cingulate gyrus, corpus callosum and external capsule increased in the electroacupuncture group compared with the model group after intervention. Conclusion:Electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shenting can improve learning-memory function of VD rats, which may be related with repairment of white matter fibers in prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and others.
