There is a growing need to develop new strategies for rare earth element (REE) recovery from secondary resources. Herein, a novel approach to utilize biogenic silica (from rice husk) and metakaolin was employed to fabricate magnetic geopolymer (MGP) by incorporating metallic iron. The fabricated MGP adsorbent material was used to uptake Ce3+, La3+, and Nd3+ from synthetic solutions and real phosphogypsum leachate in batch and column modes. The MGP offers a negatively charged surface at pH above 2.7, and the uptake of REEs rises from pH 3 to 6. The kinetic study validated that the kinetics was much faster for Nd3+, followed by La3+ and Ce3+. A thermodynamic investigation validated the exothermic nature of the adsorption process for all selected REEs. The desorption experiment using 2 mol L-1 H2SO4 as the eluent demonstrated approximately 100% desorption of REEs from the adsorbent. After six adsorption-desorption cycles, the MGP maintained a high adsorption performance up to cycle five before suffering a significant decrease in performance in cycle six. The effectiveness of MGP was also assessed for its applicability in recovering numerous REEs (La3+, Ce3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, and Nd3+) from real leachate from phosphogypsum wastes, and the highest recovery was achieved for Nd3+ (95.03%) followed by Ce3+ (86.33%). The operation was also feasible in the column presenting suitable values of the length of the mass transfer zone. The findings of this investigation indicate that MGP adsorbent prepared via a simple route has the potential for the recovery of REEs from synthetic and real samples in both batch and continuous operations modes.

The current study aimed to compare the utilization efficiency of iron (Fe) feed additives from either bulk or nano sources in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus diets on growth, haematological, immunity, anti-oxidative, and intestinal topography capacities. Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were performed; the basal diet served as a control with no Fe added, whereas the experimental diets were shaped by adding bulk-Fe2O3 and nano-Fe2O3 to the basal diet to preserve Fe levels at 0.2 and 0.4 mg kg-1, respectively. Results indicated that superior growth performance was recorded in fish-fed diets supplemented with 0.4 nano-Fe2O3 mg kg-1 diet. In addition, the highest (P ≤ 0.05) survival rate, absorption area of villous (AAV), mucosal to serosal amplification ratio (MSR), and villi parameters (height and width) were noticed in fish fed diet enrichment with either bulk or nano-Fe2O3 source. However, the superiority observed in nano-Fe2O3 fish groups. Also, the highest values of plasma albumin, total protein, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), white blood cells (WBCs), and lymphocyte absolute count (LYM) (P ≤ 0.05) recorded in fish fed a diet supplemented with nano-Fe2O3 versus the basal diet. Moreover, the highest values of catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and plasma lysozyme activity (P ≤ 0.05) were observed in fish fed 0.4 mg/kg-1 nano-Fe2O3, while the lowest value was recorded in fish fed the control diet. The best value of malondialdehyde activity (P ≤ 0.05) recorded in a fish-fed diet supplemented with 0.4 mg/kg-1 nano-Fe2O3. The current findings emphasize the importance of including Fe to improve fish growth, immunity, antioxidant capabilities, and intestinal structure, primarily with a nano-Fe source, which demonstrated a more effective function in satisfying Nile tilapia dietary Fe requirements and improving the aforementioned parameters.

For human consumption, fish is a good and affordable source of several crucial elements. Growing aquaculture management and output is always necessary. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate the effect of probiotics, nano zeolite, and/or medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) on fish health and the chemical composition of the fish body. The experimental fish were distributed into eight groups. T1: Control group fed the basal diet without feed additives, T2: Nano zeolite at a rate of 2 mg/kg diet, T3: Pedococcus at a rate of 2 gm kg diet, T4: Medium chain fatty acids used according to produced company recommendation at a rate of 3.5 gm/kg diet, T5: Nano zeolite (2 mg/kg diet) + Pedococcus (2 mg/kg diet), T6: Nano zeolite (2 mg/kg diet) + Medium chain fatty acids (3.5 gm/kg diet), T7: Pedococcus (2 mg/kg diet) + Medium chain fatty acids (3.5 gm/kg diet), and T8: Nano zeolite (2 mg/kg diet) + Pedococcus (2 mg/kg diet) + Medium chain fatty acids (3.5 gm/kg diet). The obtained results showed an insignificant difference in the body composition of Nile tilapia fish fed feed additives alone or in combination. Moreover, the feed additives did not affect the health status of fish, as indicated by normal liver and kidney functions.

BACKGROUND: The search for alternative therapies for treatment of Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been increasingly studied to avoid the common adverse effects of the usual regimens. Therefore, this study aimed at delineating possible mechanisms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and possible therapeutic role of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) versus vanillic acid. METHODS: Forty rats were divided into five groups: control, sham control, Testosterone-induced BPH, BPH and Zn-NPs, and BPH and vanillic acid. Light microscopic, immune-histochemical; PCNA, Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, p-Akt and p-mTOR, histomorphometric analysis, MDA/SOD and GPx and were done. Gene expression of p-Akt, p-mTOR and survivin were evaluated. RESULTS: Application of zinc oxide nanoparticles as well as vanillic acid significantly reduced prostatic index, epithelial thickness, stromal collagen fibers, expression of PCNA, Bcl2, p-Akt, p-mTOR and MDA tissue level (p < 0.05). Whereas expression of Bax and caspase 3, and tissue levels of SOD and GPx were significantly increased in groups treated with Zno-Nps and vanillic acid compared to that of BPH group. Zinc oxide nanoparticles showed a better effect than vanillic acid in alleviating BPH. CONCLUSION: These findings suggested that ZnO-NPs as well as VA ameliorated the histolo-pathological and biochemical effects of induced BPH, moreover they improved the proapoptotic and antioxidant parameters which ere induced in BPH. It is recommended to search for new agents to prevent the development and progression of BPH.

Kidney stones have been associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney diseases, end-stage renal failure. This study is devoted to isolate nanobacteria from patients with active urolithiasis and investigate the in vitro and in vivo antinanobacterial activity of some antibiotics alone or in combination with extracts of irradiated herbs from certain medicinal plants. Nanobacteria were detected using scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy, protein electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and DNA profile. The antimicrobial susceptibility of some biofilm-producing nanobacterial isolates was evaluated. The effect of medicinal plant extracts on growth was tested. A combination treatment between the most potent extracts and antibiotics was tested on biofilm production, protein profile, release of 260 nm absorbing material, protein content, and ultrastructure of the strongest biofilm producers. In vivo study of nanobacteria and its treatment by the most potent agents was evaluated on male rats. Renal function was measured in serum; histological examination and oxidative stress parameters were determined in kidney tissues. Results showed that streptomycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, doxycycline, and water extracts of irradiated khella at 6 kGy had antinanobacterial activity. Meanwhile, the synergistic effect of the aqueous extract of irradiated Khella and doxycycline showed higher inhibition activity on microbial growth and biofilm production. They affected dramatically the strength of its cell membrane and subsequently its ultrastructure. Moreover, these results are confirmed by ameliorations in renal function and histological alterations. It could be concluded that the combination of DO and an aqueous extract of irradiated khella has an antinephrotoxic effect against nanobacteria-induced renal toxicity.

Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is a parasite that obtains the iron it needs for its own metabolism from the host-cell iron pool. In this work, we aimed to investigate if iron supplementation or deficiency affected the course of T. gondii infection. Eighty mice were divided into four groups, each with 20 animals: Group (I): Uninfected control group. Group (II): Infected control group: injected with Phosphate buffered saline. Group (III): Infected group: received iron sucrose treatment. Group (IV): Infected group: treated with deferoxamine. Quantitative PCR studies were performed on days 3 and 8 post-infection to detect the expression of iron metabolism genes (hamp and ferroprotin) and immune-histochemical analysis to study the percentage of TNF-α and TGF-ß tissue expression. Iron supplementation induced progressions of infection evident by increased tissue expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α and downregulation of TGF-ß which is mostly linked to suppression of the inflammatory process caused by T. gondii. Increased expression of TGF-ß and decreased expression of TNF-α was noticed when iron deprivation occurred. On day 3, we noticed increased expression in the hamp gene with iron supplementation while it decreases when the iron supply is low. On the contrary, iron deficiency increased ferroprotin gene expression whereas supplementing decreased it. On day 8, the level of expression of these genes returned to normal levels. These observations document the potential role of iron in controlling toxoplasmosis infection and indicate that the transcription of hamp and ferroprotin in T. gondii-infected cells appears to be regulated by a sophisticated indirect mechanism.

Pseudomelanosis is a black-brown discoloration of the loose connective tissue layer of the intestinal mucosa, also known as the lamina propria. Although it is a benign condition and poses no real threat to the patient, it has been known to be associated with certain medication use in the colon, like anthraquinone laxatives, as well as various chronic illnesses in the duodenum and stomach, like iron deficiency anemia, end-stage kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Only a handful of cases of gastric pseudomelanosis have been reported in the literature, often presenting to the physician as an elderly female with dark, tarry stools from excessive iron use. In this unusual case, a 75-year-old male came to the emergency room due to a concern about blackish stools in the toilet. After reviewing his past medical history, it was found that he takes iron tablets for anemia secondary to end-stage renal disease. While enteric iron was most likely the cause of the melena, an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) study was performed to rule out any proximal causes of gastrointestinal bleeding. Following the upper endoscopy, gastric pseudomelanosis was established.

Atorvastatin calcium (AC), a cholesterol-lowering medication, has limited oral bioavailability (14 %) and adverse impacts on the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), liver, and muscle. So, in an effort to improve the poor availability and overcome the hepatotoxicity complications attendant to peroral AC administration, transdermal transfersomal gel (AC-TFG) was developed as a convenient alternative delivery technique. The impact of utilizing an edge activator (EA) and varying the phosphatidylcholine (PC): EA molar ratio on the physico-chemical characteristics of the vesicles was optimized through a Quality by Design (QbD) strategy. The optimal transdermal AC-TFG was tested in an ex-vivo permeation study employing full-thickness rat skin, Franz cell experiments, an in-vivo pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) evaluation, and a comparison to oral AC using poloxamer-induced dyslipidemic Wister rats. The optimized AC-loaded TF nanovesicles predicted by the 23-factorial design strategy had a good correlation with the measured vesicle diameter of 71.72 ± 1.159 nm, encapsulation efficiency of 89.13 ± 0.125 %, and cumulative drug release of 88.92 ± 3.78 % over 24 h. Ex-vivo data revealed that AC-TF outperformed a free drug in terms of permeation. The pharmacokinetic parameters of optimized AC-TFG demonstrated 2.5- and 13.3-fold significant improvements in bioavailability in comparison to oral AC suspension (AC-OS) and traditional gel (AC-TG), respectively. The transdermal vesicular technique preserved the antihyperlipidemic activity of AC-OS without increasing hepatic markers. Such enhancement was proven histologically by preventing the hepatocellular harm inflicted by statins. The results showed that the transdermal vesicular system is a safe alternative way to treat dyslipidemia with AC, especially when given over a long period of time.

The goal of the current study was to compare how well Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, utilized copper (Cu) as bulk and nano sources by evaluating fish growth, body indices, hematological assays, plasma metabolites, immune and anti-oxidative abilities, and intestinal morphometric measurements. The basal diet served as a control, with no Cu added, whereas the experimental diets were formed by adding bulk-Cu and nano-Cu to the basal diet to keep Cu levels at 3 and 6 mg kg-1, respectively, in both Cu sources. Tilapia (9.10 ± 0.014 g) were fed the control diet and four experimental diets for 12 weeks. Results indicated that growth, feed utilization, and body indices demonstrated a substantial improvement (P ≤ 0.05) in tilapia that received a diet containing 3 and 6 Nano-Cu mg kg-1 diet, compared to the performance of fish that received diets containing 3 and 6 Bulk-Cu mg kg-1 diet and the control diet. Villi height, villi width, absorption area of villous (AAV), and mucosal to serosal amplification ratio (MSR) values demonstrated a substantial increase (P ≤ 0.05) in tilapia fed 3 and 6 mg kg-1 Nano-Cu compared to the values observed in fish fed the control and Bulk-Cu supplemented diets. Fish fed Bulk-Cu recorded the highest (P ≤ 0.05) hemoglobin concentration in those fed 6 mg kg-1 compared to 3 mg kg-1. Hematocrit value considerably improved (P ≤ 0.05) by supplementation of Cu, whereas the highest significant value demonstrated in fish provided 6 mg/kg-1 Nano-Cu. A fish-fed diet containing 3 mg kg-1 Nano-Cu revealed the best (P ≤ 0.05) values of plasma albumin, total protein, and globulins. Plasma HDL-C highest concentrations (P ≤ 0.05) were reported in fish fed diet supplemented with 6 mg/kg-1 either Bulk or Nano Cu, whereas values of plasma TG and VLDL-C declined as Cu supplementation level increased either from Bulk or Nano source. Also, the best (P ≤ 0.05) values of CAT and GPX were seen in fish given diet supplemented with 6 Nano-Cu mg/kg-1. Fillets of fish-fed Nano-Cu-supplemented diets showed a marked decline (P ≤ 0.05) in moisture and fat contents, while crude protein, ash, and Cu contents considerably increased in the fillet by dietary supplementation of Nano-Cu at both levels 3 and 6 mg kg-1. In conclusion, the supplemental diets with 3 or 6 Nano-Cu mg/kg-1 enhanced growth, feed utilization, body indices, fillet nutrient composition, hematological assay, plasma metabolites, immune, antioxidant activities, and intestinal morphometry of Nile tilapia.

BACKGROUND: The knowledge about the effective implementation of corticosteroid injection (CS) with deep transverse friction massage (DTFM) and Mill's manipulation (MM) on clinical and radiological changes (Magnetic resonance imaging-MRI and Ultra sound) in lateral epicondylalgia (LE) is lacking. Therefore, the objective of this study is proposed to find and compare the effects of corticosteroid injection (CS) DTFM and Mill's manipulation on clinical and radiological changes in lateral epicondylalgia. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS: Randomized, single-blinded, controlled study was conducted on 60 LE participants at university hospital. The active MM group (n = 30) received corticosteroid injection with DTFM and active Mill's manipulation (MM) three sessions a week for 4 weeks and the sham MM group received corticosteroid injection with sham manipulation. The primary outcome was pain intensity, measured with the visual analog scale. The other outcome measures were percentage of injury measured by MRI and ultrasound, functional disability, handgrip strength, patient perception, kinesiophobia, depression status and quality of life which were measured at 4 weeks, 8weeks and at 6 months follow up. RESULTS: The between-group difference in pain intensity at 4 weeks was 1.6 (CI 95% 0.97 to 2.22), which shows improvement in the active group than sham group. The similar effects have been noted after 8 weeks and at 6 months 2.0 (CI 95% 1.66 to 2.33) follow up in pain intensity. Similar improvements were also found on percentage of injury, functional disability, handgrip strength, patient perception, kinesiophobia, depression status and quality of life (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: Corticosteroid injection with DTFM and Mill's manipulation was superior to sham group for improving pain, percentage of injury, functional disability, handgrip strength, patient perception, kinesiophobia, depression status and quality of life in people with lateral epicondylalgia. Plants of the genus Strobilanthes have notable use in folklore medicines as well as being used for pharmacological purposes. The present work explored the biological predispositions of Strobilanthes glutinosus and attempted to accomplish a comprehensive chemical profile through GC-MS of different fractions concerning polarity (chloroform and n-butanol) and LC-ESI-MS of methanolic extract by both positive and negative ionization modes. The biological characteristics such as antioxidant potential were assessed by applying six different methods. The potential for clinically relevant enzyme (α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and tyrosinase) inhibition was examined. The DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, and FRAP results revealed that the methanol fraction presented efficient results. The phosphomolybdenum assay revealed that the n-hexane fraction showed the most efficient results, while maximum metal chelation potential was observed for the chloroform fraction. The GC-MS profiling of n-butanol and chloroform fractions revealed the existence of several (110) important compounds presenting different classes (fatty acids, phenols, alkanes, monoterpenes, diterpenes, sesquiterpenoids, and sterols), while LC-ESI-MS tentatively identified the presence of 44 clinically important secondary metabolites. The n-hexane fraction exhibited the highest potential against α-amylase (497.98 mm ACAE/g extract) and α-glucosidase (605.85 mm ACAE/g extract). Significant inhibitory activity against tyrosinase enzyme was displayed by fraction. Six of the prevailing compounds from the GC-MS study (lupeol, beta-amyrin, stigmasterol, gamma sitosterol, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, and n-hexadecanoic acid) were modelled against α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes along with a comparison of binding affinity to standard acarbose, while three compounds identified through LC-ESI-MS were docked to the mushroom tyrosinase enzyme and presented with significant biding affinities. Thus, it is assumed that S. glutinosus demonstrated effective antioxidant and enzyme inhibition prospects with effective bioactive molecules, potentially opening the door to a new application in the field of medicine.

Calla lily (Zantedeschia albomaculata (Hook.) Baill.) is an herbaceous or semi-evergreen perennial grown from rhizomes. It is commonly named "Spotted Arum". Ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) are found in all known organisms and are known for being functionally equivalent in all of them. A completely new in vitro culture protocol was applied to Z. albomaculata with two hormones, 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) and kinetin, to obtain full growth and multiplication. Due to their highly conserved sequences, the analysis of small-subunit rRNAs (16S-18S rRNAs) can provide precise statistical evaluation of a wide variety of phylogenetic connections. As a result, the plant's 18S rRNA gene allowed for identification and partial sequencing. Also, the traditional floral method and the novel application technique for identification were applied to Z. albomaculata. In this paper we systemically describe the structural strategies of the plant's adaptation to the surroundings at the morphological, physiological, and anatomical scale. Most the essential oils and fatty acids found in Z. albomaculata are omega fatty acids, octadecenoic acid, linoleic acid, and palmitic acid. All these fatty acids have industrial, medicinal, and pharmaceutical applications. The significant findings are the spadix sheathing leaves, and the precipitation of raphides calcium oxalate. The mitotic index showing the division activity was recorded, and it was 17.4%. The antimicrobial activity of Z. albomaculata ethanol extract was performed via the well diffusion method. This extract has shown high activity against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, compared to its lower activity against Bacillus cereus. By defining these characteristics and in vitro culture conditions, we will be able to acclimatize the plant in greenhouses, and then transfer it to the open field. The findings of this work identified the general characteristics of Zantedeschia albomaculata as an ornamental and medicinal plant in order to acclimatize this plant for cultivation in the Mediterranean climate.

The flora of Kazakhstan is characterized by its wide variety of different types of medicinal plants, many of which can be used on an industrial scale. The Traditional Kazakh Medicine (TKM) was developed during centuries based on the six elements of ancient Kazakh theory, associating different fields such as pharmacology, anatomy, pathology, immunology and food nursing as well as disease prevention. The endemic Artemisia L. species are potential sources of unique and new natural products and new chemical structures, displaying diverse bioactivities and leading to the development of safe and effective phytomedicines against prevailing diseases in Kazakhstan and the Central Asia region. This review provides an overview of Artemisia species from Central Asia, particularly traditional uses in folk medicine and the recent numerous phytochemical and pharmacological studies. The review is done by the methods of literature searches in well-known scientific websites (Scifinder and Pubmed) and data collection in university libraries. Furthermore, our aim is to search for promising and potentially active Artemisia species candidates, encouraging us to analyze Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), α-glucosidase and bacterial neuraminidase (BNA) inhibition as well as the antioxidant potentials of Artemisia plant extracts, in which endemic species have not been explored for their secondary metabolites and biological activities so far. The main result of the study was that, for the first time, the species Artemisia scopiformis Ledeb. Artemisia albicerata Krasch., Artemisia transiliensis Poljakov, Artemisia schrenkiana Ledeb., Artemisia nitrosa Weber and Artemisia albida Willd. ex Ledeb. due to their special metabolites, showed a high potential for α-glucosidase, PTP1B and BNA inhibition, which is associated with diabetes, obesity and bacterial infections. In addition, we revealed that the methanol extracts of Artemisia were a potent source of polyphenolic compounds. The total polyphenolic contents of Artemisia extracts were correlated with antioxidant potential and varied according to plant origin, the solvent of extraction and the analytical method used. Consequently, oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) may be managed by the dietary intake of current Artemisia species. The antioxidant potentials of the species A. schrenkiana, A. scopaeformis, A. transiliensis and Artemisia scoparia Waldst. & Kitam. were also promising. In conclusion, the examination of details between different Artemisia species in our research has shown that plant materials are good as an antioxidant and eznyme inhibitory functional natural source.

In this work, Dodonaea oil was studied as a potential biodiesel source. Dodonaea (Dodonaea viscosa Jacq.) is an evergreen shrubby plant that thrives in tropical and subtropical conditions. The plant produces high-grade biodiesel in terms of both quantity and quality despite its naturally high fat content. In the transesterification followed by esterification reaction, varied ratios of oil to methanol, constant temperature (60°), reaction duration (1 h), and different catalyst concentrations (0.25-0.75% (w/w) were utilized. A maximum biodiesel yield of 90% was achieved. For fuel characteristic analysis, the prepared biodiesel was specified and compared to ASTM criteria. The chemical composition was verified using analytical techniques such as FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. As a result of the foregoing, Dodonaea is considered a possible bioenergy source, particularly in the transport sector.
RESUMO
This systematic review aimed to summarize the literature on the relationship between religiosity or spirituality (R/S) and medication adherence among patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and to describe the nature and extent of the studies evaluating this relationship. Seven electronic databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, the Cochrane Central Library, ProQuest Theses and Dissertations, and Google Scholar) were searched with no restriction on the year of publication. The Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the eligible studies. Due to the heterogeneity observed across the included studies, data synthesis was performed using a narrative approach. Nine original studies published between 2006 and 2018 were included in the review. Only a few quantitative studies have examined the relationship between R/S and medication adherence among patients with CVDs. Most studies were conducted in the USA (n = 7) and involved patients with hypertension (n = 6). Five studies showed a significant correlation between R/S (higher organizational religiousness, prayer, spirituality) and medication adherence and revealed that medication adherence improved with high R/S. The other four studies reported a negative or null association between R/S and medication adherence. Some of these studies have found relationships between R/S and medication adherence in hypertension and heart failure patients. This review showed a paucity of literature exploring the relationship between R/S and medication adherence among patients with other CVDs, such as coronary artery diseases, arrhythmia, angina and myocardial infarction. Therefore, the findings suggest that future studies are needed to explore the relationship between R/S and medication adherence among patients with other types of CVDs. Moreover, there is a need to develop interventions to improve patients' medication-taking behaviors that are tailored to their cultural beliefs and R/S.

BACKGROUND: It is debatable whether opioid-free anaesthesia (OFA) is better suited than multimodal analgesia (MMA) to achieve the goals of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. METHODS: In all patients, anaesthesia was conducted with an i.v. induction with propofol (2 mg. kg-1), myorelaxation with cisatracurium (0.15 mg.kg-1), in addition to an ultrasound-guided bilateral oblique subcostal transverse abdominis plane block. In addition, patients in the OFA group (n = 51) received i.v. dexmedetomidine 0.1 µg.kg-1 and ketamine (0.5 mg. kg-1) at induction, then dexmedetomidine 0.5 µg. kg-1.h-1, ketamine 0.5 mg.kg-1.h-1, and lidocaine 1 mg. kg-1.h-1 for maintenance, while patients in the MMA group (n = 52) had only i.v. fentanyl (1 µg. kg-1) at induction. The primary outcome was the quality of recovery assessed by QoR-40, at the 6th and the 24th postoperative hour. Secondary outcomes were postoperative opioid consumption, time to ambulate, time to tolerate oral fluid, and time to readiness for discharge. RESULTS: At the 6th hour, the QoR-40 was higher in the OFA than in the MMA group (respective median [IQR] values: 180 [173-195] vs. 185 [173-191], p < 0.0001), but no longer difference was found at the 24th hour (median values = 191 in both groups). OFA also significantly reduced postoperative pain and morphine consumption (20 mg [1-21] vs. 10 mg [1-11], p = 0.005), as well as time to oral fluid tolerance (238 [151-346] vs. 175 min [98-275], p = 0.022), and readiness for discharge (505 [439-626] vs. 444 min [356-529], p = 0.001), but did not influence time to ambulate. CONCLUSION: While regional anaesthesia achieved most of the intraoperative analgesia, avoiding intraoperative opioids with the help of this OFA protocol was able to improve several sensible parameters of postoperative functional recovery, thus improving our knowledge on the OFA effects. The present work investigates the proficiency of green silver oxide nanocatalyst synthesised from Monotheca buxifolia (Falc.) Dcne. leaves extract, and their application for biodiesel synthesis from novel Prunus bokhariensis seed oil (non-edible). The seed oil content of 55% and FFA content of 0.80 mg KOH/g were reported. Several analytical tools (EDX, FT-IR, SEM and XRD) were used to characterise the Ag2O nanocatalyst. Maximum (89%) FAME yield of the PBSOB (Prunus bokhariensis seed oil biodiesel) was achieved at ambient transesterification conditions i.e. 3.5 wt% nanocatalyst loading, 2.5 h reaction time, 130 °C of reaction temperature and 12:1 alcohol to oil ratio. The synthesised PBSOB was additionally characterised by analytical methods like, GC-MS and FT-IR. The different aspects of fuel were identified i.e. flash point (84 °C), kinematic viscosity (4.01 cSt @ 40 °C), sulphur content (0.0003 wt %), density (0.853 kg/L) and acid number (0.167 mg KOH/g). All the above properties were verified and agreed well with biodiesel international standards (European Union (14214), China GB/T (20828) and ASTM (6751, 951). In general, Prunus bokhariensis seed oil and Ag2O nanocatalyst seem to be remarkably active, cheap and stable candidates for the biodiesel industry in future.

Five isonitrogenous diets were formulated to comprise two forms of zinc (Zn): convention zinc oxide named Bulk-ZnO or zinc oxide nanoparticles (Nano-ZnO) supplemented at two levels 30 and 60 mg kg-1 compared to the control diet. Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, fingerlings (5.02-5.05 g) were fed tested diets two times a day for 84 days. The results displayed that the best growth and digestive enzyme activity (P < 0.05) were noticed in fish fed 60 mg kg-1 Nano-ZnO. Moreover, significant (P < 0.05) improvement in intestinal topography was observed in 60 mg kg-1 Nano-ZnO group versus other treatments. Furthermore, fish fed 30 mg kg-1 Nano-ZnO recorded the best values of hematological indices (P < 0.05). The alanine and aspartate aminotransferase (ALT and AST) values were lower, while total serum protein, albumin, and globulin contents were clearly higher in fish fed diet that contained 30 mg kg-1 Nano-ZnO versus other groups. The significant highest values of oxidative enzyme activity escorted with lower malondialdehyde value recorded of fish fed diet supplemented with 60 mg kg-1 Nano-ZnO. The results indicated that inclusion of Nano-ZnO at 60 mg kg-1 was the recommended source to enhance growth, feed utilization, amylase and lipase enzymes activity, intestinal morphology, hemato-biochemical, and oxidative response biomarkers of Nile tilapia compared with Bulk-ZnO in commercial tilapia feeds.

Photosystem I (PS I) has a symmetric structure with two highly similar branches of pigments at the center that are involved in electron transfer, but shows very different efficiency along the two branches. We have determined the structure of cyanobacterial PS I at room temperature (RT) using femtosecond X-ray pulses from an X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) that shows a clear expansion of the entire protein complex in the direction of the membrane plane, when compared to previous cryogenic structures. This trend was observed by complementary datasets taken at multiple XFEL beamlines. In the RT structure of PS I, we also observe conformational differences between the two branches in the reaction center around the secondary electron acceptors A1A and A1B. The π-stacked Phe residues are rotated with a more parallel orientation in the A-branch and an almost perpendicular confirmation in the B-branch, and the symmetry breaking PsaB-Trp673 is tilted and further away from A1A. These changes increase the asymmetry between the branches and may provide insights into the preferential directionality of electron transfer.

Curcumin, obtained from curcuma longa, has been the subject of decades of scientific investigation on its therapeutic usefulness. It is reported to possess several therapeutic properties, of which anti-colon cancer is of interest in this review. Clinically however, curcumin has yet to firm up its place among established anti-colon cancer therapeutic contenders. We aimed to systematically review prevailing clinical evidence on the role of curcumin in colon cancer treatment. The review drawing from literature on clinical studies indicates fairly long term tolerability. No regression of tumor was reported when curcumin was the sole intervention. Increase in p53 level expression was reported in a placebo controlled study but no reduction in PGE2 or 5HETE. Pharmacokinetic data on healthy humans indicate that formulated curcumin delivery systems present significantly higher systemic bioavailability. It appears therefore that the clinical use of curcumin can potentially be realized only through appropriate formulation interventions.
