RESUMO

Breast cancer is a significant threat to life and health, which needs more safe and effective drugs to be explored. Teadenol B is a characteristic chemical component of microbial fermented tea. This study discovered that teadenol B could exhibit obvious inhibitory effects on all four different clinical subtype characteristics of breast cancer cells. Proteomic studies show that deoxycytidine triphosphate deaminase (DCTD), which could block DNA synthesis and repair DNA damage, had the most significant and consistent reduction in all four types of breast cancer cells with the treatment of teadenol B. Considering MDA-MB-231 cells exhibit poor clinical prognosis and displayed substantial statistical differences in KEGG pathway enrichment analysis results, we investigated its impact on the size and growth of MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast tumors transplanted into nude mice and demonstrated that teadenol B significantly suppressed tumor growth without affecting body weight significantly. Finally, we found that the conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II in MDA-MB-231 increased significantly with teadenol B treatment. This proved that teadenol B could be a strong autophagy promotor, which explained the down-regulation of DCTD to some extent and may be the potential mechanism underlying teadenol B's anti-breast cancer effects. This finding provides new evidence for drinking fermented tea to prevent breast cancer and highlights the potential of teadenol B as a novel therapeutic option for breast cancer prevention and treatment, necessitating further investigations to clarify its exact target and the details involved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the impacts of acupuncture on depressive mood and sleep quality in patients with comorbid mild-to-moderate depressive disorder and insomnia, and explore its effect mechanism. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with comorbid mild-to-moderate depressive disorder and insomnia were randomly divided into an observation group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a control group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped off). In the observation group, acupuncture and low frequency repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) were combined for the intervention. Acupuncture was applied to Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 24+), Neiguan (PC 6) and Yanglingquan (GB 34), etc., the needles were retained for 30 min; and the intradermal needles were embedded at Xinshu (BL 15) and Danshu (BL 19) for 2 days. After acupuncture, the rTMS was delivered at the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (R-DLPFC), with 1 Hz and 80% of movement threshold, lasting 30 min in each treatment. In the control group, the sham-acupuncture was adopted, combined with low frequency rTMS. The acupoint selection and manipulation were the same as the observation group. In the two groups, acupuncture was given once every two days, 3 times weekly; while, rTMS was operated once daily, for consecutive 5 days a week. The duration of treatment consisted of 4 weeks. Hamilton depression scale-17 (HAMD-17) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) scores were observed before and after treatment, as well as 1 month after the treatment completion (follow-up period) separately. Besides, the levels of nerve growth factor (BDNF) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the serum were detected before and after treatment in the two groups. RESULTS: After treatment and in follow-up, the HAMD-17 scores were lower than those before treatment in the two groups (P<0.05), and the scores in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the total scores and the scores of each factor of PSQI were reduced in the two groups in comparison with those before treatment except for the score of sleep efficiency in the control group (P<0.05); the total PSQI score and the scores for sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). In the follow-up, except for the scores of sleep duration and sleep efficiency in the control group, the total PSQI score and the scores of all the other factors were reduced compared with those before treatment in the two groups (P<0.05); the total PSQI score and the scores of sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction in the observation group were lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of serum BDNF and GABA were increased in comparison with those before treatment in the observation group (P<0.05), and the level of serum BDNF was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture relieves depressive mood and improves sleep quality in patients with comorbid mild-to-moderate depressive disorder and insomnia. The effect mechanism may be related to the regulation of BDNF and GABA levels and the promotion of brain neurological function recovery.

RESUMO

Background and aims: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis is a clinical syndrome resulting from abnormally active immune cells and a cytokine storm, with the accompanying phagocytosis of blood cells. Patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis often suffer acute kidney injury during hospitalization, which usually signifies poor prognosis. We would like to establish a prediction model for the occurrence of acute kidney injury in adult patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis for risk stratification. Method: We extracted the electronic medical records of patients diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis during hospitalization from January 2009 to July 2019. The observation indicator is the occurrence of acute kidney injury within 28 days of hospitalization. LASSO regression was used to screen variables and modeling was performed by COX regression. Results: In the present study, 136 (22.7%) patients suffered from acute kidney injury within 28 days of hospitalization. The prediction model consisted of 11 variables, including vasopressor, mechanical ventilation, disseminated intravascular coagulation, admission heart rate, hemoglobin, baseline cystatin C, phosphorus, total bilirubin, lactic dehydrogenase, prothrombin time, and procalcitonin. The risk of acute kidney injury can be assessed by the sum of the scores of each parameter on the nomogram. For the development and validation groups, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.760 and 0.820, and the C-index was 0.743 and 0.810, respectively. Conclusion: We performed a risk prediction model for the development of acute kidney injury in patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, which may help physicians to evaluate the risk of acute kidney injury and prevent its occurrence.

RESUMO

For a country like China with unbalanced development pattern among provinces, domestic circulation (i.e., cross-province trade) is important for the long-term stability and prosperous development of economic market. However, with the rapid advance of integration of domestic regional economy, while expanding the internal market scale and deepening the provincial division of labor network for promoting the economic growth, the carbon emissions embedded within the cross-province traded products and services cannot be underestimated. Under the background of climate-trade dilemma, it is necessary to exploring the spatiotemporal variations and socioeconomic determinants of provincial "invisible" carbon emissions for a better understanding of trade-induced eco-environmental effects. To that end, this study developed an environmental-economic system model through integrating the environmentally extended multiregional input-output method and weighted average structural decomposition analysis technique to explore the trade-related emissions at the provincial level and generate the mitigation-management strategies for decisionmakers. Overall, more than half the emissions were embedded within cross-province goods and services trade over the whole study period. Furthermore, the distribution of traded emissions showed obvious spatial heterogeneity and great unbalance was existed between provincial imports and exports. Among all provinces, carbon surplus provinces were always more than deficit ones and the trading patterns of approximately 65% regions remained unchanged during 2007-2017. Remarkably, the emissions trading pattern undergone transition from carbon deficit to carbon surplus in provinces like Henan, Hubei, Guizhou, and so on. Conversely, provinces like Jilin, Shanghai, and Xinjiang showed opposite change. With the prevalence of online payment and electronic commerce in the future, the central and sub-national government could consider launching a pilot project for the design and creation of personal carbon consumption account in the carbon surplus provinces such as Guangdong, Henan, and Jiangsu. Meanwhile, for the provinces with larger carbon exports, it is necessary to establish the horizontal high technical transfer channels and vertical compensation mechanisms such as financial subsidies for improving the low-carbon production level. Our findings provided a holistic depict of national traded emissions at the provincial level, highlighting the importance of cross-province emission effect in exploring ways to promote the low-carbon transition of domestic circulation and fulfill the high-quality development of 'dual circulation' new pattern and successful achievement of 'double carbon' solemn commitment.

RESUMO

Objective: To assess the efficacy of dexmedetomidine anesthesia plus dorsal penile nerve block in pediatric circumcision. Methods: In this retrospective study, 80 children receiving circumcision in our hospital from February 2020 to February 2021 were recruited and assigned via different anesthesia methods at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive dorsal penile nerve block plus dexmedetomidine anesthesia (combined anesthesia group) or only sevoflurane for total inhalational anesthesia (total anesthesia group). Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) care was introduced to both groups of patients. Outcome measures included vital signs, operative indices, anesthesia effect, adverse reactions, parent satisfaction, and nursing satisfaction. Results: There were no significant differences in the heart rate, oxygen saturation, and mean arterial pressure between the two groups of children before anesthesia, after anesthesia, and during the awakening period (P > 0.05). Patients receiving combined anesthesia showed a shorter time lapse before the disappearance of eyelash reflex, longer time lapse before postoperative analgesic use, faster awakening, and shorter operation time and hospital stay versus those receiving total inhalational anesthesia alone (P > 0.05). The combined anesthesia resulted in a lower Induction Compliance Checklist (ICC) score, McGill score, and Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) score and a higher Ramsay score versus total anesthesia (P > 0.05). Patients receiving combined anesthesia showed a significantly lower incidence of adverse events (5.00% (2/40)) versus total inhalational anesthesia (62.50% (25/40)) (X 2 = 29.574, P > 0.05). The combined anesthesia group had a higher parent satisfaction (92.50% (37/40)) versus the total anesthesia group (75.00% (30/40)) (X 2 = 4.501, P > 0.05). A total of 80 questionnaires were distributed, with a 100% return rate and a 100% validity rate, and all 80 questionnaires scored 90 points or above. The families of children in both groups were satisfied with the quality of TCM care. Conclusion: The efficacy of dorsal penile nerve block plus dexmedetomidine anesthesia in pediatric circumcision is better than total inhalational anesthesia with sevoflurane.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pyroptosis, an inflammatory form of programmed cell death (PCD), is reported to play important roles in the treatment of tumors. In our previous studies, we found that neobractatin (NBT), a caged prenylxanthone isolated from edible fruits of Garcinia bracteata C. Y. Wu ex Y. H. Li, showed anticancer effects against different cancer cells. However, the effect of NBT on pyroptosis is not well understood. PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate whether and how GSDME-mediated pyroptosis contributes to NBT-induced antitumor effects in esophageal cancer (EC) cells. METHODS: Cell viability assay and colony formation assay were used to determine the anticancer effects of NBT in esophageal cancer cells. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay and microscopy imaging were used to detect the main characteristic of pyroptosis. CRISPR-Cas9 knockout and siRNA knockdown were performed to verify the roles of GSDME and caspase-3 in NBT-induced pyroptosis. Flow cytometry was used to measure the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and cell apoptosis. The changes of related protein level were detected by Western blot. Furthermore, animal experiments were used to verify the in vivo effect of NBT. RESULTS: The results showed that NBT reduced the viability of EC cells mainly through GSDME-mediated pyroptosis. Morphologically, NBT induced cell swelling and formed large bubbles emerging from plasma membrane in wild type EC cells. Furthermore, NBT induced the cleavage of GSDME by activating caspase-3 in EC cells. On the other hand, caspase-3 activated by NBT also induced apoptosis especially at high dosage. Knocking down GSDME switched NBT-induced cell death from mainly pyroptosis to apoptosis in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistic studies indicated that NBT led to accumulation of ROS, which then regulated the phosphorylation of both JNK and MEK/ERK. In the absence of ROS or caspase-3, NBT-induced pyroptosis and apoptosis were completely reversed. Moreover, NBT showed a significant antitumor effect in both the KYSE150 and GSDME knockout KYSE150-/- xenograft models by inducing pyroptosis and apoptosis, respectively. CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that natural compound NBT could induce GSDME-mediated pyroptosis and apoptosis in esophageal cancer cells, making it a potential therapeutic drug in clinical treatment.

RESUMO

Background: As a common side effect of radio/chemotherapy, oral mucositis severely affects patients' quality of life. Honey has been recommended for adults with radio/chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (R/CIOM), but its effect for pediatric patients has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to illuminate whether honey is effective in treating pediatric R/CIOM. Methods: Two authors searched electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus to identify relevant studies, published in English. Then, the outcomes data was extracted from eligible studies and pooled in the meta-analysis. Results: Totally, five studies containing 316 patients were included in our systematic review and meta-analysis. The result indicated that honey intervention significantly reduced the recovery time (MD = -5.10, 95% CI [-9.60, -0.61], P < 0.001, I 2 = 98%, random-effect model) in pediatric patients. Honey also reduced the occurrence of all grades of R/CIOM (RR = 0.19, 95% CI [0.12, 0.30], P < 0.001, I2 = 0%, fixed-effect model) and the occurrence of grade III and grade IV R/CIOM (RR = 0.18, 95% CI [0.08, 0.41], P < 0.001, I2 = 7%, fixed-effect model), and the sensitivity analysis showed the results were stable and robust. Conclusion: Therefore, honey could be a competent candidate for the complementary treatment of pediatric R/CIOM.

RESUMO

To analyze the domestic clinical application of vascular dementia scales, and provide the basis for the refinement of clinical scales. VIP, SinoMed, Wanfang and CNKI databases were searched by computer to analyze the clinical application of vascular dementia scales published in Chinese Core Periodicals in Library of Peking University, CSSCI and CSCD, with time limit from database establishment to August 31, 2020. According to the inclusion or exclusion criteria, the combination of Note Express software and manual search was used to complete the literature duplicate detection and screening. According to the research needs, the relevant data were extracted and a new database was established. In this study, a total of 4 246 related literatures were initially searched, 2 048 repetitive literatures were eliminated, 1 484 literatures were manually screened out, and finally 714 literatures and 44 scales were included. The total using frequency of scales was 2 660. The results of descriptive analysis showed that there were many kinds of clinical scales for vascular dementia. In order to avoid the repeated use of scales with similar functions, it is correct to include the possible influences such as the purpose of use, way, frequency and function of the scales into reference factors of scale selection according to the disease diagnostic criteria. It is necessary to develop the scales with traditional Chinese medicine characteristic for objective clinical evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Air embolism has the potential to be serious and fatal. In this paper, we report 3 cases of air embolism associated with endoscopic medical procedures in which the patients were treated with hyperbaric oxygen immediately after diagnosis by transesophageal echocardiography. In addition, we systematically review the risk factors for air embolism, clinical presentation, treatment, and the importance of early hyperbaric oxygen therapy efficacy after recognition of air embolism. PATIENT CONCERNS: We present 3 patients with varying degrees of air embolism during endoscopic procedures, one of which was fatal, with large amounts of gas visible in the right and left heart chambers and pulmonary artery, 1 showing right heart enlargement with increased pulmonary artery pressure and tricuspid regurgitation, and 1 showing only a small amount of gas images in the heart chambers. DIAGNOSES: Based on ETCO2 and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), diagnoses of air embolism were made. INTERVENTIONS: The patients received symptomatic supportive therapy including CPR, 100% O2 ventilation, cerebral protection, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and rehabilitation. OUTCOMES: Air embolism can causes respiratory, circulatory and neurological dysfunction. After aggressive treatment, one of the 3 patients died, 1 had permanent visual impairment, and 1 recovered completely without comorbidities. CONCLUSIONS: While it is common for small amounts of air/air bubbles to enter the circulatory system during endoscopic procedures, life-threatening air embolism is rare. Air embolism can lead to serious consequences, including respiratory, circulatory, and neurological impairment. Therefore, early recognition of severe air embolism and prompt hyperbaric oxygen therapy are essential to avoid its serious complications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect and safety of the Chinese patent medicine Ningmitai Capsules (NMT) in relieving lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in the patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS: We randomly assigned 40 BPH patients to an experimental and a control group of equal number to receive oral administration of NMT at 4 capsules tid and terazosin hydrochloride tablets at 2 mg qd, respectively, both for 14 days. At 7 and 14 days after medication, we recorded and compared the International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), quality of life (QoL) scores, results of urinalysis and blood routine examination, and indexes of hepatic and renal function. RESULTS: Both NMT and terazosin significantly improved the total IPSS score, the IPSS scores in the storage and voiding phases, increased Qmax and urine output, reduced post-void residual urine (PVR), and improved the QoL of the patients. The patients of the NMT group showed a better relief of incomplete bladder emptying, more improved QoL and fewer adverse reactions, while those treated with terazosin achieved a better attenuation of weak urine stream and PVR. CONCLUSIONS: NMT is safe and effective in relieving LUTS in BPH patients. Each of NMT and terazosin has its own advantages in attenuating urinary tract irritation and obstruction, but whether their combination may produce a better effect on LUTS and the specific mechanisms of NMT improving acute symptoms of BPH are yet to be further studied.

RESUMO

Triglycerides are the primary constituents of some seed kernels used in traditional Chinese medicine. Quality control of seed kernels containing multiple components with an environmentally friendly method is indispensable for establishing their quality standards (called monographs) in pharmacopeia. Using coix seeds (Semen Coicis) as an example, a green quantification strategy was proposed by combining C8 core-shell particles with single standard to determine multicomponent technologies to quantify seven triglycerides simultaneously. A core-shell column, namely, Halo C8 (3.0 × 100 mm, 2.7 µm), was used. Methanol was used as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min, enabling UV detection of the elutes. Seven triglycerides were well separated in 20 min, and simultaneously quantified using triolein as a single standard. The conversion factor for each standard was set as 1.0 on ELSD, while for the conversion factors at 203 nm, the values increased with the reduction of linoleate. The recovery values were all in the range of 97 - 107% (RSD < 3.0%). The RSD values of precision, including intraday and intermediate precision, were < 3.0% when the total content of triglycerides was calculated. The linearity reached r ≥ 0.9990, and the limit of quantitation reached 40 - 70 ng. Forty-nine batches of coix seeds from four different places of origins and eight batches of adulterants were evaluated and differentiated using principal component analysis. In addition, the validated method was used successfully to quantity seven triglycerides in Semen Persicae, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, and Semen Pruni.

RESUMO

Nujiangexathone A (NJXA), a novel compound derived from Garcinia nujiangensis, has been demonstrated to inhibit the proliferation of several human cancer cell lines. This study is the first to demonstrate the apoptosis inductive activities of NJXA and the possible underlying mechanisms. Our results demonstrated that NJXA inhibited colony formation by HeLa and SiHa cells in a dose-dependent manner. An Annexin V-FITC/PI staining assay showed that NJXA strongly triggered apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. Western blotting analyses showed that NJXA induced the caspase-dependent apoptosis of HeLa and SiHa cells by triggering a series of events, including changes in the levels of Bcl-2 family proteins, cytochrome c release, caspase-3 activation, and chromosome fragmentation. Furthermore, we demonstrated that NJXA induced cell apoptosis by activating the reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated JNK signaling pathway. Consistent with this finding, a ROS scavenger, N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC, 10 mM), hindered NJXA-induced apoptosis and attenuated the sensitivity of HeLa and SiHa cells to NJXA. In vivo results further confirmed that the tumor inhibitory effect of NJXA was partially through the induction of apoptosis. Taken together, our results demonstrated that NJXA induced the apoptosis of HeLa and SiHa cells through the ROS/JNK signaling pathway, indicating that NJXA could be important candidate for the clinical treatment of cervical cancer.

RESUMO

Polysaccharides from numerous traditional Chinese medicines have been proven as the bioactive ingredients and are hence used as the quality control markers. However, the assessment criteria always show a poor specificity, due to the lack of systematic comparison among the analogous herbs. In the present study, two similar materials, namely sea-tangle and sargassum, were selected as the model herbs to develop more specific methods for quality control. Two well-established methods, determination of the total polysaccharides content and monosaccharides composition analysis, were both employed. Based upon the quantitative results, the evaluation criteria of the polysaccharides contents of not less than 2.0% and 1.7% were proposed for sea-tangle and sargassum, respectively. Nine identical monosaccharide derivatives appeared on the HPLC chromatograms of the hydrolysis and derivatized solutions of the two drugs. Principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis using the peak areas of monosaccharides derivatives as the variables were performed, and the results indicated that mannuronic acid and xylose with the opposite concentrations in the two drugs were the differential components. A discriminative criterion using the peak area ratio of these two monosaccharides derivatives was proposed for the qualitative identification. In conclusion, a more specific and quantitative quality control method was developed for sea-tangle and sargassum.

RESUMO

Five new ent-pimarane (1-3, 7, and 8) and three new ent-kaurane diterpenoids (4-6) and a new oleanane triterpene acid (9), together with 22 known compounds, were isolated from the root bark of the medicinal herb Acanthopanax gracilistylus. The structures of 1-9 were established based on the interpretation of high-resolution MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR data. The absolute configurations of 7 and 11 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and electronic circular dichroism analysis. Compounds 7 and 8 represent rare naturally occurring structures based on the devinyl ent-pimarane skeleton. Compounds 3, 10, 14, 16, and 17 exhibited potent inhibitory effects on the release of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Decreased Core I ß3-Gal-T-specific molecular chaperone (Cosmc) expression induced IgA1 aberrant glycosylation is the main characteristic of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). This study tried to elucidate the effect of Astragalus membranaceus on Cosmc expression and IgA O-glycosylation of peripheral B lymphocytes in IgAN patients. METHODS: Peripheral B lymphocytes of 21 IgAN patients and 10 normal controls were isolated and cultured with or without lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and Astragalus membranaceus injection (AMI). Cosmc mRNA and protein expression levels were measured by real-time RT-PCR and Western blot. IgA1 and glycosylation level were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and VV lectin-binding method. RESULTS: Cosmc mRNA expression and IgA1 O-glycosylation level in IgAN patients was significantly lower than normal controls at baseline. Treatment of LPS could obviously inhibit Cosmc expression and increase the IgA1 secretion in peripheral B lymphocytes of IgAN patients, which resulted in a significantly increase in IgA1 aberrant glycosylation level. Addition of AMI could remarkably up regulated Cosmc expression, decrease IgA1 secretion, and reverse glycosylation level in a dose related manner. CONCLUSION: AMI can up-regulate Cosmc expression of peripheral B lymphocytes and reverse IgA1 aberrant O-glycosylation level, which might be the underlying mechanism of AMI therapy in treating IgAN. RESUMO

The concise, efficient synthesis of alpha-mangostin is described in eight simple steps with 8.3% overall yield. Highlights include a practical approach to construct the isopentene groups and other diverse groups at C-2 and C-8 of the xanthene skeleton through Claisen rearrangement and Wittig reaction. Meanwhile the first total synthesis of beta-mangostin is presented with a similar approach.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the importance of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pattern on an acupoint-specific effect. DESIGN: This was a TCM pattern subdivision analysis of the first intervention data from a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial (ISRCTN24863192) (the main trial). SETTINGS: The main trial recruited participants from six hospitals in three provinces in China. SUBJECTS: Five hundred and one (501) participants diagnosed with primary dysmenorrhea (PD) were enrolled in the main trial. INTERVENTIONS: The main trial randomly and equally divided participants into three treatment groups with bilateral electroacupuncture at three sites, respectively: Sanyinjiao (SP6), Xuanzhong (GB39), and an adjacent nonacupoint. Participants were diagnosed with TCM patterns before the treatment. The intervention was carried out when the visual analogue scale (VAS) score of participant's menstrual pain was ≥ 40 mm on the first day of menstruation and lasted for 30 minutes. OUTCOME MEASURES: The immediate improvement of pain was measured with a 100-mm VAS before the intervention, at 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 30 minutes during the intervention, and at 30 minutes after the completion of this intervention. RESULTS: Three (3) TCM patterns (n=320) were eligible for analysis, including Cold and Dampness Stagnation pattern (n=184), Qi and Blood Stagnation pattern (n=84), and Qi and Blood Deficiency pattern (n=52). In Cold and Dampness Stagnation pattern, the SP6 group had a significant reduction in VAS scores compared with the GB39 group (mean difference -7.6 mm) and the nonacupoint group (mean difference -8.2 mm), respectively. There was no difference between the latter two groups. There were no group differences in VAS scores in the other two patterns. CONCLUSIONS: It suggested that TCM pattern might affect acupoint specific effect on the immediate pain relief obtained for participants with PD.
