RESUMO

Anthriscus sylvestris (L.) Hoffm. Gen. is a biennial or perennial herb commonly found in China. It has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine to treat various ailments such as cough, gastric disorders, spleen deficiency, and limb weakness. Recently, its potential as an anticancer agent has gained considerable attention and has been the subject of extensive research focusing on extract efficacy, identification of active compounds, and proposed molecular mechanisms. Nevertheless, further high-quality research is still required to fully evaluate its potential as an anticancer drug. This review aims to comprehensively summarize the anticancer properties exhibited by the active components found in Anthriscus sylvestris. We conducted a comprehensive search, collation, and analysis of published articles on anticancer activity and active compounds of A. sylvestris using various databases that include, but are not limited to, PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The primary chemical composition of A. sylvestris consists of phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, steroids, fatty acids, and organic acids, showcasing an array of pharmacological activities like anticancer, antioxidant, anti-aging, and immunoregulatory properties. Thus, this review highlights the active compounds isolated from A. sylvestris extracts, which provide potential leads for the development of novel anticancer drugs and a better understanding of the plant's pharmacological effects, particularly its anticancer mechanism of action.

Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease, and the infiltrated macrophages in psoriatic skin lesions play a key role in the progression of this uncontrolled cutaneous inflammation. However, the current therapeutic strategies for patients with psoriasis are not satisfactory. Here, we report that cycloastragenol (CAG), a natural active small compound isolated from Astragalus membranaceus, significantly ameliorated imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasiform dermatitis in mice by targeting proinflammatory macrophages. CAG significantly reduced the clinical scores, decreased the epidermal thickness, and ameliorated the deteriorating histopathology observed in IMQ-induced mice. CAG treatment specifically reduced the dermal infiltration of macrophages, rather than of dendritic cells, neutrophils, or T lymphocytes, into psoriatic skin. CAG dose-dependently decreased the level of proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-1ß, TNF-α and IL-6, in murine psoriatic skin and serum, as well as in IMQ-stimulated, bone-marrow-derived macrophages. When compared to the control group, CAG significantly decreased IMQ-triggered NLRP3 inflammasome activation and gasdermin D-mediated cell pyroptosis in these proinflammatory macrophages. CAG also suppressed the assembly of the NLRP3 inflammasome complex. Taken together, the results show that CAG selectively modulates macrophage function by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis to ameliorate IMQ-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation in mice. Our findings also identify an effective drug candidate for the treatment of psoriasis.

OBJECTIVE: To study the objective diagnostic mechanisms on Chinese medical (CM) syndrome patterns of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to research different titers of rheumatoid factor (RF)/citrullinated protein antibody (CCP) in CM syndrome patterns of RA. METHODS: Totally 230 early RA patients were assigned to five CM syndrome pattern groups, i.e., the dampness-heat blockage group (50 cases), the cold-dampness blockage group (50 cases), the Shen-qi deficiency-cold group (50 cases), the Gan-Shen yin deficiency group (40 cases), and the blood stasis blockage group (40 cases). Another 100 healthy subjects were recruited as the healthy control group. RF-IGM, RF-IGA, RF-IGG, and anti-CCP antibody were detected and compared. RESULTS: The titers of RF-IGM, RF-IGA, RF-IGG, and anti-CCP antibody were higher in all groups than in the healthy control groups (P < 0.01). As for the 5 groups, RF-IGM, RF-IGA,RF-IGG, and anti-CCP antibody were higher in the RA active stage than in the nonactive stage. They were higher in the dampness-heat blockage group in the RA active stage than in the Shen-qi deficiency-cold group, the Gan-shen yin deficiency group, and the blood stasis blockage group. CONCLUSION: Titers of RF-IGM, RF-IGA, RF-IGG, and anti-CCP antibody could be taken as judging indicators for differentiating objective lab indices of CM syndromes and assessing the active stage of RA.
