RESUMO

Nutrient resorption of leaves is an important nutrient conservation mechanism for plants in nutrient-poor habitats. Understanding the responses of leaf nutrient resorption to soil moisture is helpful to reveal the adaptation strategies of plants to the environment. In this study, the dominant plant in the Yangguang wetland of Dunhuang Phragmites australis was used as research material, to explore nitrogen and phosphorus resorption patterns of P. australis leaves and their responses to soil moisture under different moisture regimes, i.e. high (33.5%±1.9%), medium (26.4%±1.3%) and low (11.3%±1.5%). The results showed that: 1) With the decreases of soil moisture, soil N concentration decreased significantly, and N concentrations in mature and senescent leaves increased significantly, the P concentration in mature and senescent leaves as well as in soil did not change. 2) N resorption efficiency of leaves under high moisture condition was 76.1%, which was significantly higher than the medium (65.5%) and low (62.5%) moisture conditions. P resorption efficiency varied among different moisture conditions. 3) The N concentrations of mature and senescent leaves were negatively correlated with N resorption efficiency. There was no significant correlation between P concentration and P resorption efficiency in mature leaves, but the P concentration of senescent leaves was negatively correlated with P resorption efficiency of leaves. As a result, water scarcity is not conducive to leaf N resorption.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of mind-refreshing and balance-restoring needling method combined with Frenkel exercises in treating ataxia after cerebral stroke. Methods: The recruited 120 patients were randomized into an observation group and a control group, with 60 cases in each group. The control group was intervened by mind-refreshing and balance-restoring needling method, while the observation group was given additional lower-limb Frenkel exercises. Before and after treatment and at the follow-up, the ataxic lower-limb function was scored using Berg balance scale (BBS) and international cooperative ataxia rating scale (ICARS), and Barthel index (BI) was adopted to score the activities of daily living (ADL). Results: After treatment, the markedly effective rate was 70.2% and the total effective rate was 96.5% in the observation group, versus 39.7% and 87.9% in the control group, and the differences in the markedly effective rate and the total effective rate were statistically significant (P<0.01, P<0.05). The intra-group comparisons showed that the BBS, ICARS and BI scores after treatment and at the follow-up were significantly different from those before treatment in both groups (all P<0.01).There were significant differences in the BBS score between the two groups after treatment and at the follow-up (P<0.05, P<0.01); the between-group differences in the ICARS and BI scores were statistically insignificant after treatment (both P>0.05), while the between-group differences in the ICARS and BI scores were statistically significant at the follow-up (both P<0.05). The interaction effects between the scoring time of BBS and BI and the group factor were statistically significant (P<0.01, P<0.05). Conclusion: Mind-refreshing and balance-restoring needling can effectively improve the lower-limb ataxic symptoms and ADL after stroke; when combined with Fenkel exercises, this needling method can produce more significant efficacy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of norcantharidin (NCTD) on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats.

METHODSSixty Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=10): normal group, CIA model group(model group), NCTD low-dose group [1.35 mg/(kg•d)], NCTD middle-dose group [2.7 mg/(kg•d)], NCTD high-dose group [5.4 mg/(kg•d)] and methotrexate (MTX) group [1.8 mg/(kg/w)]. Anesthetized rats were sacrificed by luxation of cervical vertebra after 4 weeks of administration. The arthritis scores were evaluated twice a week. The pathological changes in the ankle joints of rats were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining. The serum levels of interleukin (IL) 1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), IL-17 and transform growth factor (TGF) β were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The mRNA expression of retinoid-related orphan nuclear receptorγt (RORγt) and forkhead box P3 (Foxp3) in peripheral blood lymphocytes were confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction.

RESULTSMTX and high-dose NCTD not only decreased the arthritis scores but also alleviated the pathological changes in CIA rats' ankle joints compared with the model group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). All doses of NCTD significantly inhibited the serum levels of IL-6, IL-17 and TNF-α in CIA rats (P<0.05). Only middle- and high-dose of NCTD prominently decreased serum IL-1β and TGF-β levels of CIA rats (P<0.05). However, NCTD has no effect on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level in CIA rats. The Foxp3 mRNA expression in all NCTD groups were increased significantly than in the model group (P<0.05). The mRNA expression of RORγt in NCTD high-dose group was decreased apparently in comparison with the model group (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSNCTD showed therapeutic effect on CIA rats by inhibition of cytokines and regulation of Th17/Treg cells.

RESUMO

Doctor WANG Zhi-zhong in the Southern Song Dynasty proposed the acupoint view of "location of disease", which explained the connotation of acupoints from the angle of clinic. Its meaning included two levels, one level meant pathological change on the body surface, that was the location of acupuncture diagnosis-treatment, and the other one indicated that the body surface which was the reflecting point of pathological change on the distal area or inside the body was the location of acupuncture diagnosis-treatment. The specific connotations of clinical acupoints were: location of pathogenic factors or reflection of pathogenic factors, regularity between acupoints un- der disease and specific organ, morphological differences and positioning variability after acupoints under disease, and acupoints examination, diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanism of Artemisia argyi ferment substance on systemic Candida albicans infection. Methods The model of systemic Candida albicans infection was established in immunosuppressed mice. The model mice were randomly divided into the model control,Artemisia argyi ferment substance( AAFS) at different doses(100,200,and 400 mg·kg-1 )and fluconazole group(20 mg·kg-1 ),30 mice in each. Mice in each treatment group were given therapeutic drugs by gavage for 5 consecutive days, twice daily. The survival of mice was determined 21 days after the model was set up. The serum levels of IFN-γand IL-2 were determined by ELISA. The proliferation activity of T lymphocyte in the spleen was detected by MTT assay. The number of living fungi in liver and kidney tissues was counted. Results Compared with the model control,AAFS at middle and high doses and fluconazole significantly increased the survival rate of mice, the serum levels of IFN-γand IL-2,and the proliferation activity of T lymphocyte in the spleen, but decreased the number of living fungi in tissues(P〈0. 01). Compared with low dose AAFS,middle and high doses of AAFS and fluconazole showed significantly different effect on each index(P〈0. 05 or P〈0. 01),but there was no difference among these groups(P〉0. 05). Conclusion AAFS at 200-400 mg·kg-1 has inhibitory effects on systemic Candida albicans infection in mice, the mechanism of which is related to increasing the proliferation of T lymphocyte in spleen and the levels of IFN-γand IL-2 in serum.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVETo objectively evaluate the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine in treating children's respiratory syncytial viral pneumonia (RSVP) of phlegm-heat blocking Fei syndrome (PHBFS).

METHODSA single-blinded multi-center, blocked, randomized and parallel-controlled method was adopted. The clinical study was carried out on 206 children with RSVP-PHBFS who were assigned to two groups, 108 in the test group treated through intravenous dripping of Qingkailing Injection () in combination of oral intake of Er'tong Qingfei Oral Liquid () and 98 in the control group with intravenous dripping of ribavirin injection in combination with oral intake of potassium guaiacol sulfonate oral liquid, all for 10 days. The clinical efficacy was evaluated and compared at the end of the trial from various aspects by three methods including comprehensive efficacy, post-treatment main symptoms score difference and survival analysis of the main symptoms.

RESULTSAfter treatment, in the test group, 60 patients were cured, 36 markedly alleviated, and 12 improved. In the control group, 41 were cured, 38 markedly alleviated, 18 improved and 1 unchanged. Comparison on the comprehensive efficacy between the two groups shows a better efficacy in the test group (chi(2)=4.4527, P=0.0348). Scores of the main symptoms were lowered after treatment in both groups, the difference was 22.41+/-4.99 scores in the test group and 17.61+/-6.34 scores in the control group, being more significant in the former (t=-5.99, P<0.01). Survival analysis shows that there was significant difference between the two groups in the effect initiating time on such symptoms as fever, cough, copious sputum, shortness of breath, and rales, which was earlier in the test group (P<0.01 or P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONEvaluation of the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in treating children with RSVP-PHBFS by using the three methods jointly could better show the objectivity of the evaluation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Recently, a new traditional Chinese medicine differentiation theory "Syndrome Element (SE)" has been raised. In this study, the main syndrome element types and their correlations with the results of coronary angiography (CAG) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) were investigated. METHODS: Epidemiology cross-sectional study method was employed and 324 patients with CHD were enrolled, and their syndrome element types as well as the CAG results were analyzed. The correlations among syndrome element types, Gensini score, and the number of abnormal branches were also analyzed based on the distribution characteristics of syndrome element and coronary angiography results in the 324 cases. RESULTS: According to their occurrence frequency in 324 CHD patients, the top eight major heart syndrome elements were Xin () blood stasis (85.8%), Xin qi deficiency (79.6%), Xin heat blockage (41.1%), Xin phlegm with turbid fluid (38.0%), Xin qi stagnation (24.7%), Xin yang deficiency (18.9%), Xin yin deficiency (17.5%) and Xin cold coagulation (4.4%), respectively, which suggested that Xin blood stasis and Xin qi deficiency were the two most common syndrome elements. Also, as coronary artery Gensini score increased, the changing trend of the syndrome element was "Xin yang deficiency with blood stasis" to "Xin phlegm obstruction with heat blockage" to "Xin yin deficiency with blood stasis" to "Xin qi deficiency with blood stasis" to "Xin cold coagulation with phlegm and turbid fluid, "Xin cold coagulation with blood stasis" to "Xin deficiency of qi, yin and yang". As the number of abnormal branches increased, the syndrome element changing trend was "simultaneous occurrence of cold and heat syndrome" to "Xin qi and yang deficiency with blood stasis" to "Xin retention of phlegm with turbid fluid" to "Xin cold coagulation in the heart meridian", "Xin deficiency of both qi and yin". The result of this study shows that Xin qi deficiency and Xin blood stasis were the major syndrome elements in patients with CHD. CONCLUSION: As the severity and extent of coronary artery lesion increased, there were some apparent correlations among syndrome elements, Gensini score and number of abnormal coronary artery branches.

RESUMO

The subject of modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) has been argued in China for many years. Many good ideas have been suggested by experts and scholars. In this paper, one issue in the modernization of TCM is discussed. The issue is how to introduce some mathematical methods into traditional Chinese medicine. This is a valuable subject to study, because by this way,the computers can be used to analyze the composing methods of TCM prescriptions and to help TCM doctors to select better treating means.A new mathematical method for analyzing the composing methods of TCM prescriptions has been developed, and the methods are still based on TCM theory.By these methods, the TCM prescriptions can be computed or analyzed in digital formations, but the integral conception about human body in TCM is still left intact. In this paper, using the new method, several TCM prescriptions were analyzed, and the analyzed results demonstrate that the methods are efficient and give a good help to understand the composing methods of TCM prescriptions.
