RESUMO

Background: Stroke is ischemia and neurological dysfunction caused by acute brain circulation loss. It causes acute localized neurological abnormalities such as weakness, sensory deficit, or language issues that require long-term treatment. These deficiencies harm the patient and their family psychologically, socially, and economically. Thus, combination treatment can rapidly rehabilitate such patients. Detoxification methods like Ayurvedic medicated enema help stroke pathophysiology. Physical modalities in physiotherapy have been shown to facilitate normal movement and function on the stroke patient's affected side, increasing independence with everyday duties. A stroke patient may benefit from Dashmoola Niruha Basti, Function Electrical Stimulation (FES), and Motor Relearning Programme (MRP). Aim & Objectives: This study compares the adjuvant role of Dashmoola Basti with MRP and FES in stroke recovery. The main goals of this study are to assess and compare the adjuvant role of Dashmoola Basti with standard control over sensorimotor function of lower extremities, static and dynamic balance in stroke patients; gait parameters; resistance experienced during passive range of motion; quality of life of patients; Barthel Index; Modified Ashworth Scale; and Fuglmeyer assessment, Single Limb Stance Test, Functional Reach Test. Methods: A total of 40 patients will be enrolled and divided randomly into two equal groups. In Group A (control), standard treatment (modern + physiotherapy) will be prescribed for one month. In Group B (interventional group), Dashmoola Basti will be added to the aforementioned standard treatment for one month. Expected results: Improvement in Fuglmeyer assessment, Single Limb Stance Test, Functional Reach Test, quality of Life of Patients, Barthel Index, Modified Ashworth scale, and National Institute of Health (NIH) stroke-scale-score will be observed and recorded. Conclusions: Results and conclusions will be derived according to the data collected in case record form and assessment sheets filled at baseline and follow-up visits. Trial registration: CTRI/2021/10/037445 dated 21.10.2021.

RESUMO

Necrotizing fasciitis is a soft-tissue infection that is rare but life-threatening. The early clinical presentation of necrotizing fasciitis is local erythema, pain, and fever. It occurs in any part of the body, but it is mainly found in the extremities, abdominal wall, and perineum. It needs intensive care with appropriate antibiotics and extensive surgical debridement. This Case of necrotizing fasciitis was initially treated with surgical debridement and splint skin grafting. After two months of failed medical-surgical interventions and dressing, the 17-year old female in an irritable but oriented state approached the outpatient department of kayachikitsa with the unhealed wound. The Ayurvedic diagnosis of Vidradhi was deliberated after considering PittaDosha and Rakta, Mamsa, and MedaDhatu. She was treated with medicines, including external applications, for one month. It resulted in complete wound healing and minimal scarring, and a satisfied patient. This Case can be the basis for future research studies.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The recent pandemic of COVID-19 is very challenging for each and every sector like health, economic, technology, agriculture, industries, and education. In the field of education, a teaching institute or a university is suffering in regard to syllabus completion, clinical postings, and examinations which eventually ends up in huge academic loss. Thus, to minimize the academic loss and facilitate the students in distance education, online learning was the solution; in spite of various challenges, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University) have implemented the online learning program for the undergraduate students within a week of lockdown. METHODOLOGY: The survey was conducted at MGACH&RC, total of 189 students have participated in the survey. Data collected by survey with help of feedback on a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire with close- and open-ended questions and focus group discussion (FGD) with students. DISCUSSION: Although the program was implemented to verify the utility, accomplishment, and lacunas of e-learning, the survey was planned to assess the perception of students toward online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The e-learning model has been successfully introduced; there are more requirements from the students regarding the resource material and minimal lacunas regarding the skill of faculty members and technical issues. Students appreciate the online learning module for the pandemic situation and necessitated for the combination of both learning modalities in future. Seamlessly, the running program recommended online assessment and evaluation of the students in future.

RESUMO

Reiter's syndrome is a clinical syndrome of arthritis, urethritis, conjunctivitis, and mucocutaneous lesions. Skin and mucosal involvement is observed in about 10% of the cases. A 34-year-old male was brought in severe condition. He had red colored foul smelling maculopapular skin lesions all over body, swollen and painful knee and shoulder joints. History revealed that he was suffering from Reiter's syndrome since 2003. He used to get admitted between the months of February and May every year due to aggravation of symptoms. Every time he was treated with systemic antibiotics, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. He was successfully treated with external application and internal medication with tikta (bitter) and kasaya (astringent) drugs. He got significant relief in skin lesions as well as joint pain and his quality of life was markedly improved. This case study demonstrates that Reiter's syndrome can be well managed with Ayurvedic medicines.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: It is increasingly being realized that many of today's diseases are due to "oxidative stress" that results from an imbalance between formation and neutralization of free radicals. Rasayana Chikitsa is a unique branch of Ayurveda. The word Rasayana means the way for attaining excellent Rasadi Dhatus. Several medicinal plants have been described as Rasayanas in Ayurveda. Ashwagandha and Guduchi are the best among the Rasayanas described by Charaka. AIM: To study the efficacy of Ashwagandha and Guduchi in oxidative stress in healthy volunteers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was carried out on 30 healthy volunteers after obtaining written informed consent. They were randomly distributed in three groups. Each group was treated with three different colored capsules containing Ashwagandha, Guduchi and placebo in the dose of 1 capsule (500 mg) twice a day for 6 months. The parameters such as hemoglobin%, Erythorcyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), Malondialdehyde (MDA), Super-Oxide Dismutase (SOD) level, etc., were assessed before and after treatment. The Student's t-test was applied to assess significant variations in all of the studied parameters. RESULTS: In this study, there was a significant increase in SOD level and decrease in MDA level in Ashwagandha and Guduchi groups. CONCLUSION: Ashwagandha and Guduchi may be helpful in preventing the oxidative stress and premature aging.
