RESUMO

PURPOSE: We present 4 patients with thyroid carcinoma who underwent ¹¹C-choline PET/CT for the detection of their primary tumor and its metastases. Previous F-18 FDG PET had shown no abnormal tracer uptake in the lesions in 3 patients and only mild uptake in 1 patient. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four patients aged between 24 and 59 years (2 newly diagnosed and 2 with recurrence) underwent whole-body F-18 FDG PET/CT. The patients then underwent regional ¹¹C-choline PET/CT imaging on a separate day. RESULTS: All of the lesions in 4 patients were ¹¹C-choline avid except for a few small lung metastases. The SUVmax of the lesions was 7.94 ± 4.93. ¹¹C-choline imaging detected 3 primary tumors in 4 patients, 1 tumor in the tracheal wall in 1 patient, 7 cervical lymph nodes metastases in 3 patients, and several lung metastases in 1 patient. CONCLUSIONS: ¹¹C-choline PET/CT may be a promising supplement to F-18 FDG PET/CT in the detection of thyroid carcinoma and its metastases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect and mechanism of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI) in repairing immune function of organism at cellular and molecular levels. METHODS: Seventy-seven patients with pathologically confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer were assigned to three groups, the 22 patients in group A received surgical operation only; the 26 in group B were treated with surgical operation and chemotherapy; and to the 29 in group C, both chemotherapy and SFI were given after surgical operation. Besides, a group D with 22 patients with benign tumor was set up for control. The protein expressions of CD83, CD80 and CD86 in all patients' tumor tissue and axillary lymph node were detected by flow cytometry before and after treatment. RESULTS: Levels of CD83, CD80 and CD86 in both tumor tissue and lymph node of cancer patients were significantly lower than those in the control (P < 0.05); and those in group B were significantly lower than in group A (P < 0.05, P < 0.01); but no significant difference was found in comparing the corresponding indices between group A and group C (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The immune function of tumor patients could be impaired by tumor and chemotherapy definitely, and SFI could give aid to the repairing of immunity by way of participating in the activation of dendritic cells and the up regulation of co-stimulus molecules.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the repairing mechanism of Fuzheng Peiben Therapy on cellular immunofunction in patients with breast cancer on cellar and molecular level. METHODS: The tumor tissue and axillary lymph node samples were evaluated with the flow cytometry for CD83, CD80, CD86 before and after neoadujvant therapy. RESULTS: The levels of CD83, CD80, CD86 were singificantly decreased in group A (treated with surgery only), B (treated with neoadujvant chemotherapy plus surgery) and C (treated with neoadujvant chemotherapy plus surgery with shenqi Fuzheng Injection) compared with that in normal team (P < 0.05 or 0.01); The levels of CD83, CD80, CD86 were significantly decreased in group A, B and C compared between before and after neoadujvant chemotherapy (P < 0.05 or 0.01); They were not significantly decreased between group A and group C (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The cellular immunity was inpaired considerably by neoadujvant chemotherapy. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with Shenqi Fuzheng Injection can enhance the cellular immunity considerably.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI) on cellular immune in patients with mammary cancer (MC) after chemotherapy. METHODS: One hundred and ten patients with MC were randomly assigned to two groups. The 58 patients in the tested group were treated with SFI in cooperation with chemotherapy of CAF protocol (Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin and Fluorouracil), while the 52 patients in the control group were treated with chemotherapy of the same protocol alone. Changes of the patients' quality of life (QOF), adverse reaction that occurred, peripheral lymphocyte count and killing activity of single karyocyte before and after treatment between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Patients' QOF elevating rate after treatment in the tested group and the control group was 34.5% and 13.5% respectively; The lowering of peripheral blood cell count of WBC, platelet and lymphocyte as well as that of the killing activity of single peripheral karyocyte on various kinds of MC cells were all milder and recovery sooner than those in the control group. CONCLUSION: SFI in combination with chemotherapy in treating MC could reduce the occurrence of adverse reaction to chemotherapy, improve clinical symptoms, elevate QOF and enhance immunity in patients with MC.

RESUMO

A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method was described for the determination of chlorogenic acid (CGA) in rat plasma using protocatechuic acid as internal standard (IS). CGA in plasma was extracted with acetonitrile, which also acted as deproteinization agent. Chromatographic separation was performed on a Kromasil C18 column with methanol-0.2 m acetic acid (pH 3.0, 25:75, v/v) as mobile phase at a flow-rate of 1.0 mL/min with an operating temperature of 30 degrees C and UV detection at 300 nm. The standard curve was found to be linear over the concentration ranges of 0.4-2.5 microg/mL and 2.5-40 microg/mL, and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.4 microg/mL. The analytical precision and accuracy were validated by relative standard deviation (RSD) and relative error, which were in ranges 3.14-10.78% and -2.20-5.00%, respectively. The average recovery of CGA was 87.59%. The method was successfully applied to the pharmacokinetic study of CGA in Yin-Huang granules.

RESUMO

In the present study, a reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method was established for simultaneous determination of chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, protocatechuic acid and protocatechuic aldehyde in a Chinese herbal preparation (Fufang-Pugongying-Mixture). The separation was performed on a Hypersil ODS-2 column by isocratic elution with methanol and 0.2 M acetate buffer (pH 3.6) (15 : 85, v/v) as the mobile phase at the flow-rate of 1.0 ml/min with operating temperature of 30 degrees C, and detection wavelength of 300 nm. A good linear regression relationship between peak-areas and concentrations was obtained over the range of 2-200 microg/ml for the five marker compounds mentioned above. The spike recoveries were within 96.72-104.07%. The variation coefficient (CV) values of the precision were in the range of 0.89-4.50%. Moreover the developed method has reference value for quantitative analysis of Taraxacum, Lonicera and Angelica.
