RESUMO

Cilia are important cellular organelles for signaling and motility and are constructed via intraflagellar transport (IFT). RabL2 is a small GTPase that localizes to the basal body of cilia via an interaction with the centriolar protein CEP19 before downstream association with the IFT machinery, which is followed by initiation of IFT. We reconstituted and purified RabL2 with CEP19 or IFT proteins to show that a reconstituted pentameric IFT complex containing IFT81/74 enhances the GTP hydrolysis rate of RabL2. The binding site on IFT81/74 that promotes GTP hydrolysis in RabL2 was mapped to a 70-amino-acid-long coiled-coil region of IFT81/74. We present structural models for RabL2-containing IFT complexes that we validate in vitro and in cellulo and demonstrate that Chlamydomonas IFT81/74 enhances GTP hydrolysis of human RabL2, suggesting an ancient evolutionarily conserved activity. Our results provide an architectural understanding of how RabL2 is incorporated into the IFT complex and a molecular rationale for why RabL2 dissociates from anterograde IFT trains soon after departure from the ciliary base.

RESUMO

The successful implementation of thin-film composite membranes (TFCM) for challenging solute-solute separations in the pharmaceutical industry requires a fine control over the microstructure (size, distribution, and connectivity of the free-volume elements) and thickness of the selective layer. For example, desalinating antibiotic streams requires highly interconnected free-volume elements of the right size to block antibiotics but allow the passage of salt ions and water. Here, we introduce stevioside, a plant-derived contorted glycoside, as a promising aqueous phase monomer for optimizing the microstructure of TFCM made via interfacial polymerization. The low diffusion rate and moderate reactivity of stevioside, together with its nonplanar and distorted conformation, produced thin selective layers with an ideal microporosity for antibiotic desalination. For example, an optimized 18-nm membrane exhibited an unprecedented combination of high water permeance (81.2 liter m-2 hour-1 bar-1), antibiotic desalination efficiency (NaCl/tetracycline separation factor of 11.4), antifouling performance, and chlorine resistance.

RESUMO

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a psychiatric illness with the highest mortality. Current treatment options have been limited to psychotherapy and nutritional support, with low efficacy and high relapse rates. Hypothalamic AgRP (agouti-related peptide) neurons that coexpress AGRP and neuropeptide Y (NPY) play a critical role in driving feeding while also modulating other complex behaviors. We have previously reported that genetic ablation of Tet3, which encodes a member of the TET family dioxygenases, specifically in AgRP neurons in mice, activates these neurons and increases the expression of AGRP, NPY, and the vesicular GABA transporter (VGAT), leading to hyperphagia and anxiolytic effects. Bobcat339 is a synthetic small molecule predicted to bind to the catalytic pockets of TET proteins. Here, we report that Bobcat339 is effective in mitigating AN and anxiety/depressive-like behaviors using a well-established mouse model of activity-based anorexia (ABA). We show that treating mice with Bobcat339 decreases TET3 expression in AgRP neurons and activates these neurons leading to increased feeding, decreased compulsive running, and diminished lethality in the ABA model. Mechanistically, Bobcat339 induces TET3 protein degradation while simultaneously stimulating the expression of AGRP, NPY, and VGAT in a TET3-dependent manner both in mouse and human neuronal cells, demonstrating a conserved, previously unsuspected mode of action of Bobcat339. Our findings suggest that Bobcat339 may potentially be a therapeutic for anorexia nervosa and stress-related disorders.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Certain foods and food groups could positively or negatively impact serum uric acid (SUA) levels. However, evidence on the holistic dietary strategy to prevent and control hyperuricemia (HUA) development remains limited. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this research work was to explore the association of dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet with SUA levels and odds of HUA among Chinese adults. METHODS: This research premise included 66,427 Chinese adults aged 18 and above who were part of the China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance in 2015. Dietary consumptions were assessed via the household condiment weighing approach and a three-day, 24-hour dietary recall. Total fat, saturated fat, calcium, protein, potassium, cholesterol, magnesium, fiber, and sodium were all adopted to calculate the DASH score (score range, 0-9). The associations of DASH score with SUA levels and odds of HUA were evaluated using multiple linear and logistic regression models, respectively. RESULTS: We established that a higher DASH score was linked with a lower SUA levels (ß = - 0.11; 95% CI: - 0.12, - 0.1; p < 0.001) and odds of HUA (OR = 0.85; 95% CI: 0.83, 0.87; p < 0.001) after adjustment for age, sex, ethnicity, education status, marital status, health behaviours and health factors. The association of the DASH diet with odds of HUA was stronger among men (p-interaction = 0.009), non-Han Chinese (p-interaction< 0.001) as well as rural residents (p-interaction< 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our results illustrate that the DASH diet was remarkably negatively with SUA levels and odds of HUA in the Chinese adult population.

RESUMO

The environmental behavior of Cd in soil has been widely studied because of its close relationship with food security and soil environmental pollution. In this study, the roles of P fractions and Fe oxides in the retention of Cd in typical tropical soil from five cropping patterns were investigated. Although there was no evident relationship between the Cd adsorption capacity and soil aggregate particle sizes, strong spatial associations of P, Fe, and Cd at the soil aggregates were observed via energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis. Among five cropping patterns, citrus plantations exhibited highest ratios (calculated by pixel area) of P overlapped with Cd (8.61%) and Fe overlapped with Cd (9.53%) in the microaggregates. Furthermore, the random forest model revealed that humic P and labile organic P greatly contributed to the sorptivity of Cd2+ by < 0.053 mm (13.3%) and 0.25-0.053 mm (13.4%) soil aggregates, respectively. Compared with the P fractions in different-sized soil aggregates, the contribution of Fe oxides to the sorption of Cd2+ by soil aggregates was more significant. Amorphous ferric oxide had the most significant contribution to the sorptivity of Cd2+ by < 0.053 mm (26.0%), 0.25-0.053 mm (23.0%), 2.0-0.25 mm (25.1%), and > 2.0 mm (33.9%) soil aggregates.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mycoplasma-associated pneumonia is characterized by severe lung inflammation and immunological dysfunction. However, current anti-mycoplasma agents used in clinical practice do not prevent dysfunction of alveolar macrophages caused by the high level of the cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) after mycoplasma infection. Apigenin inhibits the production of TNF-α in variet inflammation associated disease. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate apigenin's effect on mycoplasma-induced alveolar immune cell injury and the mechanism by which it inhibits TNF-α transcription. METHODS: In this study, we performed a mouse model of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection to evaluate the effect of apigenin on reducing mycoplasma-induced alveolar immune cell injury. Furthermore, we carried out transcriptome analysis, RNA interference assay, methylated DNA bisulfite sequencing assay, and chromatin immunoprecipitation assay to explore the mechanism of action for apigenin in reducing TNF-α. RESULTS: We discovered that M. hyopneumoniae infection-induced necroptosis in alveolar macrophages MH-S cells and primary mouse alveolar macrophages, which was activated by TNF-α autocrine. Apigenin inhibited M. hyopneumoniae-induced elevation of TNF-α and necroptosis in alveolar macrophages. Apigenin inhibited TNF-a mRNA production via increasing ubiquitin-like with PHD and RING finger domains 1 (Uhrf1)-dependent DNA methylation of the TNF-a promotor. Finally, we demonstrated that apigenin regulated Uhrf1 transcription via peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) activation, which acts as a transcription factor binding to the Uhrf1 promoter and protected infected mice's lungs, and promoted alveolar macrophage survival. CONCLUTSION: This study identified a novel mechanism of action for apigenin in reducing alveolar macrophage necroptosis via the PPARγ/ Uhrf1/TNF-α pathway, which may have implications for the treatment of Mycoplasma pneumonia.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aims at investigating the internal heat acupuncture (IHA) combined with the high-voltage long-duration pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) therapeutic effect on subacute postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Methods: This retrospective study comprised 81 cases with PHN. They were divided into three groups: IHA combined with the high-voltage long-duration PRF group (IHA-PRF), intradermal injection combined with the high-voltage long-duration PRF group (II-PRF), and the high-voltage long-duration PRF group. The pain numerical rating score (NRS), IL-6, Gal-3, and blood glucose levels were recorded before and after treatment. Results: Compared with before treatment, NRS scores of the three groups were all decreased at each time point. NRS scores of the IHA-PRF group patients decreased significantly in comparison to the PRF group at 1, 4, 8, and 12 weeks following treatment, while group II-PRF only decreased significantly at one week following treatment. Compared with groups II-PRF and PRF, respectively, IL-6 and Gal-3 levels in plasma of patients in group IHA-PRF were significantly decreased at 4 and 12 weeks after treatment. The effective rate of group IHA-PRF was 88.9%, which was considerably more than the other groups, II-PRF (63.0%) and PRF (63.0%). Compared with group II-PRF, patients' blood glucose levels in IHA-PRF and PRF groups significantly decreased three days and one week after treatment. Conclusion: Internal heat acupuncture combined with high-voltage long-duration pulsed radiofrequency has a satisfactory therapeutic effect on subacute PHN and has no obvious adverse reactions, which is especially suitable for patients with poor blood glucose control.

RESUMO

The prevalence and risk factors of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) located in the anterior circulation (AC) and posterior circulation (PC) has been scarcely noted in the general population. We aimed to determine ICAS prevalence and risk factor profile of AC and PC in a representative population. Data were from the China Hypertension Survey of Beijing. In total, 4800 people aged 35 years or older were enrolled in this subsurvey for ICAS, and 3954 participants were eligible for analysis. ICAS was assessed by transcranial Doppler. The prevalence of ICAS in AC was much greater than that in PC (11.9% vs. 4.2%), and subjects with ICAS in PC were 3.9 years older than those with ICAS in AC. Multivariable logistics regression showed that the odds of hypertension and diabetes increased by 79% (OR: 1.79, 95% CI: 1.40-2.27) and 35% (OR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.04-1.75) in those with AC vascular lesions and by 3.35 times (OR: 3.35, 95% CI: 2.49-4.50) and 71% (OR: 1.71, 95% CI: 1.19-2.46) in those with PC vascular lesions compared with those without vascular lesions. Most modifiable vascular risk factors for ICAS appeared to exert similar magnitudes of risk for PC to AC lesions.

RESUMO

The objective of this project was to find a bronchodilatory compound from herbs and clarify the mechanism. We found that the ethanol extract of Folium Sennae (EEFS) can relax airway smooth muscle (ASM). EEFS inhibited ASM contraction, induced by acetylcholine, in mouse tracheal rings and lung slices. High-performance liquid chromatography assay showed that EEFS contained emodin. Emodin had a similar reversal action. Acetylcholine-evoked contraction was also partially reduced by nifedipine (a selective inhibitor of L-type voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels, LVDCCs), YM-58483 (a selective inhibitor of store-operated Ca2+ entry, SOCE), as well as Y-27632 (an inhibitor of Rho-associated protein kinase). In addition, LVDCC- and SOCE-mediated currents and cytosolic Ca2+ elevations were inhibited by emodin. Emodin reversed acetylcholine-caused increases in phosphorylation of myosin phosphatase target subunit 1. Furthermore, emodin, in vivo, inhibited acetylcholine-induced respiratory system resistance in mice. These results indicate that EEFS-induced relaxation results from emodin inhibiting LVDCC, SOCE, and Ca2+ sensitization. These findings suggest that Folium Sennae and emodin may be new sources of bronchodilators.

RESUMO

Scoparone, a naturally-occurring, bioactive compound isolated from the Chinese herb Artemisia capillaria, has been shown to ameliorate hepatotoxicity and cholestasis in liver diseases. However, the pharmacological effect of scoparone in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the protective effects and mechanisms of scoparone in NASH. In vivo, the NASH model was established in mice fed a methionine and choline-deficient (MCD) diet for 4weeks, with or without simultaneous scoparone treatment. In vitro, RAW264.7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were pretreated with or without different concentrations of scoparone. Hepatic triglycerides and serum AST and ALT levels were examined by biochemical assays. Hepatic histology was assessed by H&E, oil red O and Masson's trichrome staining methods, which were applied to analyze the protective effects of scoparone in NASH. To further explore the underlying mechanism of scoparone, immunohistochemistry, TUNEL, qRT-PCR, and Western blotting assays were applied to liver tissue or LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. We found that scoparone can effectively improve hepatic steatosis, apoptosis, inflammation, and fibrosis in an MCD diet-induced NASH murine model. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that scoparone treatment alleviates NASH- and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced immune responses in macrophages partly by blocking TLR-4/NF-κB signaling in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, our results present the potential protective effects and mechanism of scoparone in NASH, suggesting a potentially beneficial drug treatment for NASH.

RESUMO

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a common clinicopathological condition. Currently, the pathogenesis of NASH remains unknown, and no optimal therapy option currently exists. It has previously been demonstrated that diallyl disulfide (DADS) was capable of attenuating liver dysfunction, as DADS supplementation had a positive impact on liver regeneration, proliferation and oxidative damage. Thus, DADS could serve as a potential therapeutic agent that can protect against the effects of NASH. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of DADS on NASH and to understand the associated underlying molecular mechanisms. A methionine and cholinedeficient diet (MCD) and highfat diet (HFD) are the two common animal models that induce NASH. C57BL/6J mice were fed an MCD for 4 weeks, or an HFD for 20 weeks, in the present study. The mice were treated with or without DADS (20, 50 and 100 mg/kg) for 4 or 20 weeks. For the histopathological examination, hematoxylin and eosin staining, oil red O staining and immunohistochemical analyses were performed using the liver sections. Biochemical assays and ELISA were performed to measure the serum biochemical indicators of hepatic function and inflammatory indicators, respectively. Reverse transcriptionquantitative PCR, immunofluorescence and western blotting were used to detect expression levels of the genes involved in the molecular mechanisms underlying DADS protection. MCD or HFD induced the histological features of NASH in mice, including significant vacuolated hepatocytes, marked inflammatory cell infiltration and severe micro and macrovesicular steatosis. Serum alanine transferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels, as well as the contents of liver triglyceride and total cholesterol, were significantly increased in these two models. DADS attenuated these histological and biochemical changes. DADS ameliorated hepatic steatosis by regulating sterol regulatory elementbinding transcription factor 1, apolipoprotein A1, cyclic AMPresponsive elementbinding protein H and fibroblast growth factor 21. Furthermore, DADS was revealed to prevent lipotoxicity via peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor α elevation and stearoylcoenzyme A desaturase 1 inhibition in HFDfed mice. In addition, DADS markedly inhibited lipid peroxidation by modulating malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase, and it also decreased tumor necrosis factorα production, interleukin6 production and macrophage influx, as well as suppressing nuclear factorκB activation, indicating suppression of MCDinduced hepatic inflammation. Taken together, the results have shown that DADS exerts beneficial effects on MCD or HFDinduced NASH by suppressing key regulators of lipid metabolism, lipid peroxidation and inflammation.

RESUMO

AIMS: Baicalin (BA), an active flavonoid compound originating from the herb of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, has been previously shown to exert anti-inflammation and anti-oxidant effects in liver diseases. However, the potential role of BA in the regulation of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) remains elusive. In this study, we newly explored the hepatoprotective effects of BA in MCD diet-induced NASH by ameliorating hepatic steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis and apoptosis. MAIN METHODS: NASH was induced in mice fed a methionine and choline-deficient (MCD) diet for 4weeks. The mice were simultaneously treated with or without BA for 4weeks. Serum liver functional markers and inflammatory indicators were assessed by biochemical and ELISA methods, respectively. The livers were histologically examined using H&E, Oil Red O and Masson's trichrome staining methods. The qRT-PCR, IHC and Western blotting assays were applied to analyze mechanisms underlying BA protection. KEY FINDINGS: BA treatment significantly attenuated MCD diet-induced hepatic lipid accumulation partly through regulating the expression of SREBP-1c, FASN, PPARα and CPT1a. BA treatment dramatically suppressed MCD diet-induced hepatic inflammation, which was associated with decrease in serum TNF-α, IL-1ß and MCP-1 production, macrophage influx and suppression of nuclear factor-κB activation. Additionally, BA was proved to prevent liver fibrosis, which appears to be mediated by inhibition of α-SMA, TGF-ß1 and Col1A1. Furthermore, BA markedly inhibited hepatocyte apoptosis and cleaved caspase-3 protein expression in MCD diet-induced mice. SIGNIFICANCE: These results provide a possible basis of the underlying mechanism for the application of BA in the treatment of NASH.

RESUMO

AIMS: Chronic foot shock has been demonstrated to induce hypertension. The present study was designed to explore whether the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) plays a role in this process and the possible mechanisms involved in chronic-foot-shock-induced hypertension. MAIN METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to a two-week foot shock with or without an angiotensin II (Ang II) type 1 receptor blocker (ARB, candesartan) or an angiotensin I converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI, captopril). The expression of RAS components in the central nervous and circulatory systems was examined. Antioxidant levels in the plasma were monitored. KEY FINDINGS: Two-week foot shock significantly increased systolic blood pressure (SBP). Angiotensinogen, angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE)-1, ACE-2, angiotensin type 1a and type 1b receptors, and vasopressin (VAP) mRNA expression in the cerebral cortex and hypothalamus were increased along with the concentration of renin and Ang II in the plasma; these changes were accompanied by decreased glutathione peroxidase activity and increased lipid peroxidation levels and plasma corticosterone concentrations. Both candesartan and captopril suppressed not only the increases in SBP but also the increases in VAP expression in the hypothalamus and RAS components in the central nervous system and the circulatory system. The decreases in antioxidant levels and the increases in lipid peroxidation and corticosterone levels were also partially reversed by candesartan or captopril treatment. SIGNIFICANCE: Chronic foot shock increases expression of the main RAS components, which play an important role in the development of high blood pressure through increased VAP levels, oxidative stress levels and stress hormone levels.

RESUMO

This paper investigated the genus diversity of soil nematodes of different agricultural areas in Jiangsu Province, analyzed the relationship between soil nematodes and soil environmental factors, and discussed the roles of soil nematodes as biological indicators of soil health. The results showed that, a total of 41 nematode genera were found in all six agricultural areas, belonging to 19 families, 7 orders, 2 classes. The numbers and community compositions of nematodes were obviously influenced by soil texture, fertilization and tillage practices. In all six agricultural areas, the numbers of nematodes in coastal agricultural area (400 individuals per 100 g dry soil) were significantly larger than that in Xuhuai, Ningzhenyang, and riverside agricultural areas. While the smallest number of nematodes was found in Yanjiang agricultural area (232 individuals per 100 g dry soil), which might be due to the differences in soil texture, annual rainfall and annual air temperature and other factors. The dominant genera of nematodes were similar in the adjacent agricultural areas. Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the number of soil nematodes and levels of soil nutrients (soil organic matter, total nitrogen, available nitrogen, available potassium and available phosphorus). Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated the total nitrogen, available potassium and pH obviously affected some soil nematode genera. The analysis of spatial distribution characteristics of soil nematode community in farmland of Jiangsu Province could provide data for health assessment of agricultural ecosystems.

RESUMO

The treatment and disposal of sewage sludge generate considerable amounts of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and pose environmental and economic challenges to wastewater treatment in China. To achieve a more informed and sustainable sludge management, this study conducts a life cycle inventory to investigate the GHG performances of six scenarios involving various sludge treatment technologies and disposal strategies. These scenarios are landfilling (S1), mono-incineration (S2), co-incineration (S3), brick manufacturing (S4), cement manufacturing (S5), and fertilizer for urban greening (S6). In terms of GHG emissions, S2 demonstrates the best performance with its large offset from sludge incineration energy recovery, followed by S4 and S6, whereas S1 demonstrates the poorest performance primarily because of its large quantity of methane leaks. The scenario rankings are affected by the assumptions of GHG offset calculation. In most scenarios, GHG performance could be improved by using waste gas or steam from existing facilities for drying sludge. Furthermore, considering the GHG performance along with economic, health, and other concerns, S6 is recommended. We thus suggest that local governments promote the use of composted sludge as urban greening fertilizers. In addition, the use of sludge with 60% water content, in place of the current standard of 80%, in wastewater treatment plants is proposed to be the new standard for Tai Lake Watershed in China.

RESUMO

Because nutrient enrichment has become increasingly severe in the Tai Lake Basin of China, identifying sources and loads is crucial for watershed nutrient management. This paper develops an empirical framework to estimate nutrient release from five major sectors, which requires fewer input parameters and produces acceptable accuracy. Sectors included are industrial manufacturing, livestock breeding (industrial and family scale), crop agriculture, household consumption (urban and rural), and atmospheric deposition. Results show that in the basin (only the five sectors above), total nutrient loads of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) into aquatic systems in 2008 were 33043.2 tons N a(-1) and 5254.4 tons P a(-1), and annual area-specific nutrient loads were 1.94 tons N km(-2) and 0.31 tons P km(-2). Household consumption was the major sector having the greatest impact (46 % in N load, 47 % in P load), whereas atmospheric deposition (18 %) and crop agriculture (15 %) sectors represented other significant proportions of N load. The load estimates also indicate that 32 % of total P came from the livestock breeding sector, making it the second largest phosphorus contributor. According to the nutrient pollution sectors, six best management practices are selected for cost-effectiveness analysis, and feasible options are recommended. Overall, biogas digester construction on industrial-scale farms is proven the most cost-effective, whereas the building of rural decentralized facilities is the best alternative under extreme financial constraint. However, the reduction potential, average monetary cost, and other factors such as risk tolerance of policy makers should all be considered in the actual decision-making process.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the chemical constituents of volatile oil from the rhizomes and leaves of Pileostegia viburnoides var. glabrescens by GC-MS. METHODS: The volatile oil was extracted from the rhizomes and leaves of Pileostegia viburnoides var. glabrescens by steam distillation. The constituents of volatile oil were identified by GC-MS technology. RESULTS: 37 compounds were identified from the oil of rhizomes. 36 compounds were identified from the oil of leaves. The rhizomes and leaves volatile oil had 18 compounds in common. CONCLUSION: This study is the first one to report the volatile components of Pileostegia viburnoides var. glabrescens. It can provide a scientific basis for rational use of the rhizomes and leaves of Pileostegia viburnoides var. glabrescens.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the basic characteristics of effects of acupoint application therapy in order to guide clinical decision better. METHODS: A database on acupoint application therapy was established first by collection, sorting, screening, recording, collation, data extraction, and statistical analyses of the related literature published in recent 60 years, and using modern computer system. Then, its predominant indications and application rules in clinical practice were analyzed using data mining techniques. RESULTS: Outcomes of data mining showed that the acupoint application therapy was extensively utilized in the treatment of a variety of diseases or clinical conditions (142 in total) in different clinical departments, particularly in the internal medicine which contains 51 types of clinical conditions or diseases (accounting for 35.92%). Among them, the top 3 are asthma, cough, and abdominal pain, with the appearance frequency being 161, 79 and 45 times (= articles) in the domestic journals, respectively. The second one is the paediatric department, containing 30 kinds of diseases or clinical conditions (accounting for 21.13%). Among them, cough (106 articles), asthma (104 articles) and diarrhoea (82 articles) are frequently seen. The surgery department takes the third place, involving 27 disorders (accounting for 19.01%), with lumbago-leg pain being the most (31 articles). In the departments of ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology, 14 types of disorders (accounting for 9.86%) have been reported, with nasosinusitis being the most (56 papers). This therapy has also been used to treat 10 types of gynecopathy (7.04%) and 10 kinds of dermopathy (7.04%), with dysmenorrhea (37 articles) and shingles (6 articles) being the most. For acupoint application, complex prescriptions of Chinese herbal medicines in the forms of paste and cataplasm are frequently adopted, but with fewer application of enhancer of cutaneous penetration. Regarding the utilized acupoint, local points are often chosen. In the light of the collected papers, the highest effective rate is for dermopathy, followed by surgical problems, gynecopathy, paediatric conditions, and disorders of the internal medicine, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology. CONCLUSION: Acupoint application therapy has been used for 142 kinds of disorders of different clinical departments, with the dominant indications being asthma, cough, abdominal pain, facial paralysis and constipation in the internal medicine, cough, asthma and diarrhoea in the paediatrics, lumbago-leg pain in the surgery, nasosinusitis in the otorhinolaryngology, and dysmenorrhea of gynecopathy.
