RESUMO

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of calcium plus Vitamin-D combined with calcitriol in the treatment of patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and osteoporosis. Methods: In this retrospective observational study clinical records of 90 patients with T2DM combined with osteoporosis, treated in The Quzhou Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from October 2019 to April 2022 were incuded. All patients received basic hypoglycemic treatment. Of 90 patients, 43 received calcium plus Vitamin-D adjuvant therapy (Control-group), and 47 patients received calcium plus Vitamin-D combined with calcitriol adjuvant therapy (Observation-group). Clinical efficacy, adverse reactions, bone metabolism levels, and changes in bone density levels were compared between the two groups. Results: The clinical efficacy of the treatment was significantly higher in the Observation-group (93.6%) compared to the Control-group (83.7%; p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (p>0.05). After treatment, bone metabolism and bone density indicators in both groups improved, and were significantly better in the Observation-group compared to the Control-group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Combination of calcium plus Vitamin-D and calcitriol adjuvant therapy in patients with T2DM and osteoporosis is safe and associated with better treatment efficacy, improved bone metabolism and bone density parameters than calcium plus Vitamin-D treatment alone.

RESUMO

Aqueous sodium-ion batteries have promising prospects in large-scale electrical energy storage, which lack of suitable cathode with high specific capacity and long cycle lifespan, unfortunately. Manganese-based Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) (KMnHCF/NaMnHCF) are ideal candidates for low-cost and high theoretical specific capacity merits. But the rapid decline hinders their application, due to side reactions caused by water imbalance. Here, an equilibrium strategy, which can balance the interstitial water supplement and water attack, is proposed. As proof of the concept, xCS (x: proportion, CS: co-solvent, such as polyethylene glycol and trimethyl phosphate) equilibrium electrolytes are introduced to solve the rapid decline. Assisting with the electrolyte, KMnHCF realizes excellent performance (10 000 cycles), which is beyond most cathode materials of sodium-ion batteries. The full batteries composed of KMnHCF cathode and NaTi2 (PO4 )3 anode also display outstanding performance (7000 cycles) and promising application prospects at low-temperature and engineering scenes. And then, the equilibrium electrolyte concept is verified by NaMn0.8 Fe0.2 HCF and NaMnHCF, proving its universality for low-cost and long-life manganese based PBAs.

RESUMO

To clarify the impacts of long-term alfalfa plantation on the soil nematode community, soil samples were collected from different alfalfa growing ages (2 a, 9 a, 18 a) in the semi-arid area of Loess Plateau in Central Gansu by Illumina Miseq sequencing technology. The main controlling factors affecting its community change were also explored. The results showed that soil nematode belongs to 2 classes, 7 orders, 16 families and 21 genera. Among them, Chromadorea was the dominant group (44.6%-81.4%), the relative abundance of which decreased with alfalfa growing ages. Paratylenchus, Helicotylenchus, Xiphinema, Pristionchus, Ditylenchus, Panagrolaimus, Longidorus, Aprutides, Isolaimium and Aglenchus were the special nematode species of alfalfa, among which Paratylenchus (54.1%), Helicotylenchus (23.9%) and Xiphinema (21.9%) were the dominant nematodes in 2 a, 9 a and 18 a alfalfa soil respectively. Plant-parasitic nematode was the dominant group in alfalfa soil (31.8%-67.1%), and its relative abundance decreased at first and then increased with alfalfa growing ages. Results of redundancy analysis showed that soil available phosphorus and total nitrogen were the dominant environmental factors affecting community structure of soil nematodes in the region.

RESUMO

The nutritional status of selenium (Se) in pregnant women in rural areas of northern China and its association with diet and indoor air pollution are rarely reported. We recruited 273 pregnant women in early or middle term in Shanxi and Hebei province and detected their fasting blood selenium. Demographic characteristics, food habits, and indoor air pollution exposure were collected with a questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to estimate the adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and their 95% confidence intervals for the factors and relatively low blood levels of Se (below the lower quartile). The median (interquartile range [IQR]) blood concentration of Se was 117.35 (103.90, 129.23) µg/L. The rate of Se deficiency was 4.8%, and the rate of overnutrition was 23.8%. The AORs for the risk for relatively low blood levels of Se were 2.26 (1.15, 4.44) for consuming less beef and pork/mutton; 0.39 (0.19, 0.80) for a lower frequency of vinegar consumption; and 1.41 (0.76, 2.60) and 1.18 (0.59, 2.36) for passive smoking and indoor coal pollution, respectively. In conclusion, the nutritional status of Se in pregnant women in a rural area of northern China was acceptable; diet was the main determinant; no conclusive association was found between indoor air pollution and Se nutritional status.

RESUMO

As innate immune effector cells in the central nervous system (CNS), microglia not only are essential for the normal development of nervous system but also act on different neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Huntington's disease (HD), and other neuroinflammatory diseases. Mogroside V (Mog), a natural plant active ingredient and isolated form of Momordica grosvenori, has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory action, but few studies were carried out to investigate the effects of Mog on neuroinflammation. This study aimed to investigate the role of Mog in lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) induced neuroinflammation and neuronal damage, revealing the underlying mechanisms. Our data indicated that Mog significantly inhibited the LPS-induced production of proinflammatory factors, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), IL-18, IL-6, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in BV-2 cells. We found that Mog also suppressed toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), adenosine 5'-monophosphate- (AMP-) activated protein kinase (AMPK), nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), and protein kinase B (AKT). Moreover, Mog also enhanced the expression of γ-glutamyl cysteine synthetase catalytic subunit (GCLC), modifier subunit (GCLM), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) proteins, mostly depending on the nuclear translation of nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). In contrast, pretreatment with inhibitors of AKT can suppress the phosphorylation of AMPK, Nrf2, and its downstream proteins expression. In summary, Mog might play a protective role against LPS-induced neurotoxicity by inhibiting the TLR4-MyD88 and activation of AMPK/AKT-Nrf2 signaling pathway.
