RESUMO

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer management and have been widely applied; however, they still have some limitations in terms of efficacy and toxicity. There are multiple treatment regimens in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that play active roles in combination with Western medicine in the field of oncology treatment. TCM with ICIs works by regulating the tumor microenvironment and modulating gut microbiota. Through multiple targets and multiple means, TCM enhances the efficacy of ICIs, reverses resistance, and effectively prevents and treats ICI-related adverse events based on basic and clinical studies. However, there have been few conclusions on this topic. This review summarizes the development of TCM in cancer treatment, the mechanisms underlying the combination of TCM and ICIs, existing studies, ongoing trials, and prospects for future development.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Skin rash is the most common adverse effect associated with epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRIs). The study has observed the efficacy and safety of Zhiyang Pingfu Liquid in the treatment of EGFRIs-related moderate and severe rash. METHODS: Patients suffering from EGFRIs-related moderate to severe rash were enrolled and then randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, receiving Zhiyang Pingfu Liquid and placebo liquid respectively combined with minocycline and methylprednisolone recommended by guideline for 14 days. Changes in rash grades were observed, as well as the dosage of minocycline. Blood routine examination and liver and kidney function were evaluated to observe the safety of Zhiyang Pingfu Liquid. The total response of rash included complete response (CR) and partial response (PR). And the effective rate of rash was the percentage of CR and PR in the total cases. RESULTS: A total of 54 out of 58 patients finished the study with 27 patients in each group. The effective rates of rash among the treatment group and the control group were 81.48% and 55.56% after 14 days treatment (P = .040). The treatment group had a lower dosage of minocycline compared with the control group. The median total dose of oral minocycline administration was 1000 mg in the treatment group and 1400 mg in the control group. CONCLUSION: Zhiyang Pingfu Liquid can effectively improve the moderate and severe EGFRIs-induced rash, and reduce the use of minocycline, as well as the side reactions brought by minocycline. However, larger randomized controlled trials are needed to verify these findings. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: The trial was registered on the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, the registration number is ChiCTR1800017053.

RESUMO

Our previous study found dietary mannogluconic acid (MA) and fucogalactan sulfate (FS) from Laminaria japonica have distinct structure characterization and potential hypolipidemic effects in vitro. Herein, we compared the benefits of MA and FS on hyperlipidemia. The result showed only FS treatment decreased body weight and serum cholesterol levels. Compared with MA, FS was more effective in mitigating hepatic fat accumulation, promoting GSH-Px activity, reducing the MDA formation, and lowering the level of TNF-α in liver. Gut microbiota and metabolism analysis revealed that FS increased the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria and boosted the level of short chain fatty acids. Particularly, taurine and 3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-24-oxo-5-ß-cholestanoyl CoA were upregulated by FS, which might attribute to the increased Oscillibacter and thus affect the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids and serum TC level. Therefore, FS with more branches and sulfate ester groups could be a good lipid-lowering dietary supplement.

RESUMO

Sulfur is critical for the correct structure and proper function of proteins. Yet, lacking a sensitive enough isotope, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments are unable to deliver for sulfur in proteins the usual wealth of chemical, dynamic, and structural information. This limitation can be circumvented by substituting sulfur with selenium, which has similar physicochemical properties and minimal impact on protein structures but possesses an NMR compatible isotope (77Se). Here we exploit the sensitivity of 77Se NMR to the nucleus' chemical milieu and use selenomethionine as a probe for its proteinaceous environment. However, such selenium NMR spectra of proteins currently resist a reliable interpretation because systematic connections between variations of system variables and changes in 77Se NMR parameters are still lacking. To start narrowing this knowledge gap, we report here on a biological 77Se magnetic resonance data bank based on a systematically designed library of GB1 variants in which a single selenomethionine was introduced at different locations within the protein. We recorded the resulting isotropic 77Se chemical shifts and relaxation times for six GB1 variants by solution-state 77Se NMR. For four of the GB1 variants we were also able to determine the chemical shift anisotropy tensor of SeM by solid-state 77Se NMR. To enable interpretation of the NMR data, the structures of five of the GB1 variants were solved by X-ray crystallography to a resolution of 1.2 Å, allowing us to unambiguously determine the conformation of the selenomethionine. Finally, we combine our solution- and solid-state NMR data with the structural information to arrive at general insights regarding the execution and interpretation of 77Se NMR experiments that exploit selenomethionine to probe proteins.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the allergens distribution of 576 allergic rhinitis patients in Qingyang, and to provide basic epidemiologic information for the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis. METHOD: Skin prick test was done to all the 576 patients with allergic rhinitis with 28 kinds of allergens. RESULT: Four hundred and eighty cases (83.3%) showed positive reaction to at least one allergen of 28 allergens. The most common allergens were Magwort (73.3%), Giant Ragweed (55.0%) Tree II (51.7%), Tree I (48.3%) Dermatophagoides farinae (43.3%) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (36.7%). Moreover. the positivity decreased with age. There was no difference between male and female. CONCLUSION: The study shows that Magwort. Giant ragweed and tree II are the most important allergens on Qingyang district.
