OBJECTIVE: This work explores the impact of electroacupuncture (EA) on acute postoperative pain (APP) and the role of stimulator of interferon genes/type-1 interferon (STING/IFN-1) signaling pathway modulation in the analgesic effect of EA in APP rats. METHODS: The APP rat model was initiated through abdominal surgery and the animals received two 30 min sessions of EA at bilateral ST36 (Zusanli) and SP6 (Sanyinjiao) acupoints. Mechanical, thermal and cold sensitivity tests were performed to measure the pain threshold, and electroencephalograms were recorded in the primary somatosensory cortex to identify the effects of EA treatment on APP. Western blotting and immunofluorescence were used to examine the expression and distribution of proteins in the STING/IFN-1 pathway as well as neuroinflammation. A STING inhibitor (C-176) was administered intrathecally to verify its role in EA. RESULTS: APP rats displayed mechanical and thermal hypersensitivities compared to the control group (P < 0.05). APP significantly reduced the amplitude of θ, α and γ oscillations compared to their baseline values (P < 0.05). Interestingly, expression levels of proteins in the STING/IFN-1 pathway were downregulated after inducing APP (P < 0.05). Further, APP increased pro-inflammatory factors, including interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α and inducible nitric oxide synthase, and downregulated anti-inflammatory factors, including interleukin-10 and arginase-1 (P < 0.05). EA effectively attenuated APP-induced painful hypersensitivities (P < 0.05) and restored the θ, α and γ power in APP rats (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, EA distinctly activated the STING/IFN-1 pathway and mitigated the neuroinflammatory response (P < 0.05). Furthermore, STING/IFN-1 was predominantly expressed in isolectin-B4- or calcitonin-gene-related-peptide-labeled dorsal root ganglion neurons and superficial laminae of the spinal dorsal horn. Inhibition of the STING/IFN-1 pathway by intrathecal injection of C-176 weakened the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of EA on APP (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: EA can generate robust analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects on APP, and these effects may be linked to activating the STING/IFN-1 pathway, suggesting that STING/IFN-1 may be a target for relieving APP. OBJECTIVE: To develop a comprehensive scoring system in addition to the conventionally used prostatic volume (PV), for predicting the difficulty of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) that may arise with small-to-moderate sized prostate. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 151 consecutive patients who underwent HoLEP and had a PV less than 120 mL. Based on previous literature, a difficult procedure was defined as a prolonged operative time (OT>90 minute) in 88 cases, while the control group (OT≤90 minute) consisted of 63 patients. The clinical data, including age, body mass index, PV, intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP), prostate specific antigen (PSA), prostate specific antigen density, urinary tract infection, microscopic hematuria, prior biopsy, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, history of acute urinary retention, catheter dependency and use of antiplatelet / anticoagulation drugs or 5-alpha reductase inhibitor were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: Univariate analysis revealed significant differences between the 2 groups. Multivariate analysis identified 3 main independent predictors for difficulty, including volume (V) (60-90 mL OR = 9.812, P < .001) (≥90 mL OR = 18.173, P = .01), IPP (I) (OR = 3.157, P = .018), and PSA (P) (≥4 ng/ml OR = 16.738, P < .001). Therefore, a V.I.P. score was developed based on the regression model and ranged from 0 to 7 points. The area under the curve showed preferable predictive ability of the V.I.P. score compared to PV (0.906 vs 0.869). CONCLUSION: We developed a V.I.P. score that can accurately predict the difficulty of the HoLEP procedure for PV less than 120 mL in order to optimize clinical outcomes.

Inflammatory pain is difficult to treat clinically, but electroacupuncture (EA) has been demonstrated to be effective in alleviating inflammatory pain. Programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) and its downstream signal, Src homology region two domain-containing phosphatase-1 (SHP-1) have a critical role in relieving inflammatory pain. However, whether the PD-L1/PD-1-SHP-1 pathway mediates the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of EA in inflammatory pain remains unclear. Here, we observed that EA reversed the complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced hyperalgesia. EA reduced the expression of IL-6, iNOS, and NF-κB pathway in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) on day 7 after CFA injection but had no effect on the expression of IL-6, iNOS, and NF-κB PP65 on day 21 after CFA injection. Moreover, EA upregulated the protein levels of the PD-L1/PD-1-SHP-1 pathway on day 7 and day 21 after CFA injection. Furthermore, EA upregulated PD-L1 expression in calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)+ but not in isohaemagglutinin B4 (IB4)+ and NF200+ neurons on day 7 and day 21 after CFA injection. Intrathecal injection of the PD-L1/PD-1 inhibitor BMS-1 (50 or 100 µg) blocked the EA-induced analgesic effect, significantly increased IL-6 and iNOS levels, and reduced the levels of PD-L1/PD-1-SHP-1. BMS-1 (50 or 100 µg) significantly reduced the expression of PD-L1 in IB4+, CGRP+, and NF200+ neurons. Our results show that EA's anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects are associated with activating the PD-L1/PD-1-SHP-1 pathway and suppressing its regulated neuroinflammation. This study provides a new potential therapeutic target for treating inflammatory pain.

This study aimed to evaluate differences in the clinical outcomes of different sacral neuromodulation systems (InterStim and BetterStim) used in the treatment of overactive bladder. Data from a previously established database of sacral neuromodulation in China (the InterStim system) and a 2020 clinical trial of the BetterStim system were screened. Patients with overactive bladder undergoing stage II implanted pulse generator implantation were selected for analysis and divided into InterStim and BetterStim system groups. Voiding diaries and subjective scores obtained preoperatively, after stage I tined-lead implantation (experience period), and after stage II implanted pulse generator implantation were compared between the two groups. This study included 113 patients with overactive bladder (43, InterStim system group; 70, BetterStim system group). Voiding diaries and subjective scores significantly improved in both the InterStim and BetterStim system groups over the treatment period. Specifically, the urination frequency (all P < 0.001), average voiding volume (all P < 0.001), and average urinary leakage (InterStim, P < 0.05; BetterStim, P < 0.01) in both groups significantly improved at different periods during treatment. At the same time, the urgency perception scale (P < 0.001) and OAB-related quality of life score (InterStim, P < 0.05; BetterStim, P < 0.01) also significantly improved. There was no significant difference in urination frequency at baseline between the two groups (P = 0.169). Urination frequency was significantly higher in the BetterStim system group than in the InterStim group during the experience period and at follow-up (P = 0.031, P = 0.006). There was no significant difference in the number of urinary leakages between the different systems at baseline (P = 0.662), although this was higher in the InterStim system group during the experience period (P = 0.016), and the difference disappeared at the last follow-up (P = 0.565). There were significant differences in baseline urgency perception scale (P = 0.001) and OAB-related quality of life score (P < 0.001) between the two groups; however, these differences were not maintained at follow-up (P = 0.81, P = 0.479). Both sacral neuromodulation systems are safe and effective in treating overactive bladder. The InterStim system may be more beneficial for patients with dry overactive bladder. Satisfactory outcomes may be achieved with the BetterStim system in patients with wet overactive bladder. However, further studies are required to confirm this finding.

Introduction: Although the transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has been regarded as the gold standard surgical option for lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia, the endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (EEP) with novel techniques is also recommended. However, whether there are differences on male sexual functions after these two procedures is still controversial. We performed this meta-analysis to investigate the impact on erectile function (EF) and ejaculation of EEP and TURP, and to explore the potential superiority between these two approaches. Materials and Methods: Literature search was conducted on Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane library, to obtain all relevant randomized controlled trials published before December 13, 2018. Outcome data were pooled and analyzed with Review Manager 5.3 to compare the International Index of Erectile Function 5 (IIEF-5) scores and retrograde ejaculation (RE) rates from short- to long-term follow-ups. Results: Ten articles with 1435 patients were included. EEP group showed higher IIEF-5 scores than TURP group with mean difference (MD) = 1.00, confidence interval (95% CI): 0.95-1.05 at 48 months and MD = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.03-1.13 at ≥60 months, respectively. In subgroup analysis, the holmium laser enucleation of the prostate showed significantly better IIEF scores than TURP group at 48 months (MD = 1.00, 95% CI: 0.95-1.05) and ≥72 months (MD = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.03-1.13). Additionally, no significant difference in RE rate was found between EEP and TURP (risk ratio = 1.02, 95% CI: 0.85-1.23). Conclusions: Compared with TURP, EEP may produce a more durable benefit for postoperative preservation of EF at long-term stage.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Serenoa repens among patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (lower urinary tract symptoms/benign prostatic hyperplasia [LUTS/BPH]) in China. METHODS: We conducted a double blind, placebo-controlled study of 354 patients with LUTS/BPH from 19 institutions, to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Serenoa repens. Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) into the Serenoa repens extract (320 mg) or placebo groups for 24 weeks. Primary efficacy parameters were changes in International Prostate Symptom Score and peak urinary flow from baseline to each assessment. Secondary efficacy parameters included improvement of storage symptom and voiding symptom scores, prostate volume, urinary frequency, and total prostate-specific antigen level. Other parameters assessed were quality of life score, a four-item male sexual function questionnaire score, and International Index of Erectile Function score across the consecutive double-blind visits. RESULTS: Statistically significant improvement in the peak urinary flow, International Prostate Symptom Score, scores of storage symptoms and voiding symptoms, quality of life score, four-item male sexual function questionnaire score, and International Index of Erectile Function score were observed in the Serenoa repens extract group compared with those in the placebo group (P <.05). Two (1.18%) of 169 patients in the placebo group and 3 (1.89) of 159 patients in the Serenoa repens extract group experienced 1 or more adverse events. CONCLUSION: The Serenoa repens extract was effective, safe, well-tolerated, and clinically and statistically superior to placebo in the target LUTS/BPH population.

PURPOSE: The efficacy and safety of a novel remotely programmed BetterStim sacral neuromodulation (SNM) system was evaluated in patients with refractory overactive bladder (OAB) in a prospective, controlled, multicenter trial. METHODS: A total of 84 patients referred for SNM therapy from October 2015 to January 2018 were studied. Of the patients who qualified for implantation, 37 and 33 were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups, respectively. Patients in the treatment group underwent stimulation upon implantation, while stimulation was delayed in the control group for 3 months. Follow-up visits, consisting of voiding diary outcome, questionnaires regarding overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) and quality of life were conducted at 1, 3, and 6-month post-implantation. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, subjects in the treatment group exhibited statistically significant improvement in OAB symptoms at 3 months. The overall success rate was achieved in 72% of the treatment group, compared with 12% of the control group at 3 months. At 6 months, there were no significant differences in key voiding diary variables between the two groups. Further, this study demonstrated sustained improvement in urinary symptom interference in OAB patients. In addition, nearly all patients expressed great satisfaction with the remote-programming methods. No serious adverse events occurred, and device-related adverse events rate was 12.86%. CONCLUSION: This clinical study demonstrates subjective and objective success of the BetterStim SNM system. Importantly, our data suggest that remote programming can be safely used as a viable option for the conventional programming with a high degree of patient satisfaction.

Rhodiola crenulata, a well-known medicinal Tibetan herb, is mainly grown in high-altitude regions of the Tibet, Yunnan, and Sichuan provinces in China. In the past few years, increasing numbers of studies have been published on the potential pharmacological activities of R. crenulata, strengthening our understanding into its putitive active ingredient composition, pharmacological activity, and mechanism of action. These findings also provide strong evidence supporting the important medicinal and economical value of R. crenulata. Consequently, some Rhodiola species are becoming endangered because of overexploitation and environmental destruction. However, little is known about the genetic and genomic information of any Rhodiola species. Here we report the first draft assembly ofthe R. crenulata genome, which was 344.5 Mb (25.7 Mb Ns), accounting for 82% of the estimated genome size, with a scaffold N50 length of 144.7 kb and a contig N50 length of 25.4 kb. The R. crenulata genome is not only highly heterozygous but also highly repetitive, with ratios of 1.12% and 66.15%, respectively, based on the k-mer analysis. Furthermore, 226.6 Mb of transposable elements were detected, of which 77.03% were long terminal repeats. In total, 31 517 protein-coding genes were identified, capturing 86.72% of expected plant genes in BUSCO. Additionally, 79.73% of protein-coding genes were functionally annotated. R. crenulata is an important medicinal plant and also a potentially interesting model species for studying the adaptability of Rhodiola species to extreme environments. The genomic sequences of R. crenulata will be useful for understanding the evolutionary mechanism of the stress resistance gene and the biosynthesis pathways of the different medicinal ingredients, for example, salidroside in R. crenulata.

In plant evolution, because of its key role in sexual polyploidization or whole genome duplication events, diploid gamete formation is considered as an important component in diversification and speciation. Environmental stress often triggers unreduced gamete production. However, the molecular, cellular mechanisms and adverse temperature regulating diplogamete production in carnation remain poorly understood. Here, we investigate the cytological basis for 2n male gamete formation and describe the isolation and characterization of the first gene, DcPS1 (Dianthus Caryophyllus Parallel Spindle 1). In addition, we analyze influence of temperature stress on diploid gamete formation and transcript levels of DcPS1. Cytological evidence indicated that 2n male gamete formation is attributable to abnormal spindle orientation at male meiosis II. DcPS1 protein is conserved throughout the plant kingdom and carries domains suggestive of a regulatory function. DcPS1 expression analysis show DcPS1 gene probably have a role in 2n pollen formation. Unreduced pollen formation in various cultivation was sensitive to high or low temperature which was probably regulated by the level of DcPS1 transcripts. In a broader perspective, these findings can have potential applications in fundamental polyploidization research and plant breeding programs.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and outcome of palliative transurethral resection of the prostate (pTURP) in patients with server bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) due to prostatic obstruction induced by advanced prostate cancer. METHODS: All the 16 patients who had a pTURP between November 2007 and January 2015 due to BOO (high residual urine volume combined with hydronephrosis or urinary retention refractory to medical treatment) at our institution were retrospectively assessed. All the patients were diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer (III stage or IV stage). The clinical data, functional and oncological follow-up results were evaluated. The cancer specific survivals were estimated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 73.8 years (63-81 years). Five cases were graded in stage III of prostate cancer and 11 in stage IV. The indications for pTURP were refractory urinary retention in 12 cases, and high residual urine volume with hydronephrosis in 4 cases. The mean prostate volume at pTURP was 43.2 mL (28-78 mL) and the mean PSA (prostate specific antigen) level before pTURP was 48.2 µg/L (2-107 µg/L). The patients had mean residual urine volume 166.4 mL (50-450 mL) and mean urinary flow rate 3.6 mL/s (0-6 mL/s, n=7) before pTURP. It took mean 62.9 min (35-94 min) in pTURP with mean estimated blood loss 126.9 mL (30-263 mL) and mean resected tissue 14.1 g (10-22 g). There were no transfusion cases. Postoperative mean serum PSA 20.5 µg/L (1-41 µg/L), residual urine volume 43.4 mL (0-400 mL) and urinary flow rate 10.1 mL/s (7-16 mL/s, n=7) were shown in these cases. A patient encountered persistent hematuria needing irrigation. Compared with preoperation, the patients had significantly lower serum PSA level (P<0.001), less residual urine volume (P<0.001) and more urinary flow rate (P=0.001) after pTURP. The mean follow-up after pTURP was 36 months (1-86 months). In addition, 2 patients received repeated pTURP. At the time of the latest analysis, 3 patients died from prostate cancer progression. As estimated by Kaplan-Meier analysis, the 2-, 3- and 5-year cancer specific survival rates after pTURP were 91%, 78% and 58%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Despite less resected tissue, greater delay in urination and reoperation rates, pTURP is a fairly effective procedure in patients with server BOO. Although a potential negative impact of pTURP on survival cannot be excluded, the estimated 3- and 5-year cancer specific survival rates in this series seem to justify this intervention.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy in treating calyceal diverticular calculi with stenotic infundibulum and to present our initial experience. METHODS: From Nov. 2012 to Nov. 2014, 10 patients with stone-bearing calyceal diverticulum and stenotic infundibulum underwent flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy in our hospital, including 3 female patients and 7 male patients with an average age of 36.9 years (range: 20 to 62 years). There were 6 patients with right side while 4 patients with left side calyceal diverticular calculi. The average cumulative stone size was (1.33±0.43) cm. Five patients underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) before hospital admission but no stone was discharged. All the patients received intravenous urography (IVU) and CT-urography (CTU) preoperatively and underwent double-J stents placement 2 weeks before operations. A digital-fiber flexible ureteroscopy and 200 µm holmium laser fiber were used for treatment. Surgeries began with routine flexible ureteroscopy and methylene blue injection was used to identify the small ostium of infundibulum. Then infundibulectomy followed by lithotripsy was performed. All the patients receive double-J stents placement and traditional Chinese medicine for 1 to 3 months after operations. The stone clearance was estimated by kidney ureter bladder (KUB) within 3 months' follow up. RESULTS: The locations of calyceal diverticulum were upper pole in 7 patients, and interpolar regions in 4 patients. The average operation time was (123.7±59.6) min, and the average estimated blood loss was (29.3±32.1) mL. Successful flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser infundibulectomies were performed in all the 10 patients. Success rate was 100%. The stone clearance rates for 1 and 3 months after surgery were 50.0% and 80.0%, respectively, which were observed by KUB follow-up. Two patients had serious post-operative fever (>38.0 °C) in coexistence with chills. The mobidity of urosepsis was 20.0%. No major complications were identified. CONCLUSION: In selected patients, calyceal diverticular calculi with stenotic infundibulum can be treated safely and efficiently with flexible ureteroscopic homium laser lithotripsy. CTU and IVU should be completed preoperatively for calyceal diverticulum location and technique difficulty prediction. Retrograde methylene blue injection can be used to identify the ostium during surgery. And prolonged post-operation stone clearance was observed.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect and impact of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and 120-W thulium: YAG vapoenucleation of the prostate (ThuVEP) on erectile function in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 93 cases of symptomatic BPH treated by HoLEP or 120 W ThuVEP. We made comparisons between the two groups of patients in the baseline and postoperative clinical and surgical indexes as well as their IPSS, quality of life (QOL), maximum flow rate (Qmax), postvoid residual urine volume (PVR), and IIEF-EF scores before surgery and during the 12-month follow-up. RESULTS: ThuVEP, in comparison with HoLEP, achieved a significantly shorter operation time ([57.6 +/- 12. 8] vs. [70.4 +/- 21.8] min, P = 0.001) and a higher laser efficiency ([0.71 +/- 0.18] vs. [0.62 +/- 0.19] g/min, P = 0. 021). At 1, 6, or 12 months of follow-up, no significant differences were observed in IPSS, OOL, Omax, and PVR between the two groups (P > 0.05). Both the HoLEP and ThuVEP groups showed low incidences of complications and remarkably improved IIEF-EF scores at 12 months postoperatively, but with no significant differences (both P > 0.05). However, in those with relatively normal erectile functions before operation, the mean IIEF-EF score was reduced from 22.8 +/- 2.2 preoperatively to 21.0 +/- 2.7 after HoLEP, (P = 0.036). CONCLUSION: Both HoLEP and 120W ThuVEP are effective and safe in the treatment of BPH. Compared with HoLEP, 120 W ThuVEP has even a higher laser efficiency. However, neither can significantly improve erectile function, and HoLEP may have a short-term negative impact on the relatively normal erectile function of the patient.

BACKGROUND: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a major cause of acute kidney injury. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying I/R injury involve oxidative stress and apoptosis. Osthole, a natural coumarin derivative, has been reported to possess antioxidant and antiapoptotic activities. This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of osthole on renal I/R injury in an in vivo rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We induced renal I/R injury by clamping the left renal artery for 45 min followed by reperfusion, along with a contralateral nephrectomy. We randomly assigned 54 rats to three groups (18 rats/group): sham-operated, vehicle-treated I/R, and osthole-treated I/R. We treated rats intraperitoneally with osthole (40 mg/kg) or vehicle (40 mg/kg) 30 min before renal ischemia. We harvested serum and kidneys at 1, 6, and 24 h after reperfusion. Renal function and histological changes were assessed. We also determined markers of oxidative stress and cell apoptosis in kidneys. RESULTS: Osthole treatment significantly attenuated renal dysfunction and histologic damage induced by I/R injury. The I/R-induced elevation in kidney malondialdehyde level decreased, whereas reduced kidney superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were markedly increased. Moreover, osthole-treated rats had a dramatic decrease in apoptotic tubular cells, along with a decrease in caspase-3 and an increase in the Bcl-2/Bax ratio. CONCLUSIONS: Osthole treatment protects murine kidney from renal I/R injury by suppressing oxidative stress and cell apoptosis. Thus, osthole may represent a novel practical strategy to prevent renal I/R injury.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether there is a protective mechanism in exogenous magnesium ions supplement in renal ischemia reperfusion injury(IRI ), and to study the expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and HSP70-mRNA in the reperfusion injury. METHODS: A total of 90 male Japanese white rabbits (1.8-2.0 kg) were divided into three groups: ischemia reperfusion group (I-R), MgSO4 pretreatment group and sham operation group. The right kidney was cut through median abdominal incision to make solitary kidney model. The left renal artery was blocked for 1 h in I-R group and MgSO4 group. 2.5% MgSO4 1 mL/(kg×h) was given through ear vein before the artery was blocked and during the blockeage in the MgSO4 group. the kidney cortex tissue was taken 1, 2, 4, 24, 48 and 72 h after reperfusion. Immunohistochemical examination was used to determine the HSP70 expression. A modified quantitative Real time-PCR was used to quantitate HSP70-mRNA in the three groups. Pathological examination was also used to confirm the results. RESULTS: Real time-PCR showed that HSP70-mRNA began to increase at the end of 1 h, and reached the peak at the end of 2 h in both I-R and MgSO4 groups, but expression in I-R group which was remarkably higher than that in the MgSO4 group at the end of 2 h and 4 h ( P<0.05). HSP70-mRNA levels decreased rapidly at the end of 24 h. In I-R group, moderate HSP70 expression could be seen in the proximal tubules during immunohistochemical examination after reperfusion for 24 h and 48 h. By contrast, there was weak HSP70 expression in the MgSO4 group 24 h and negative 48 h after reperfusion. Epithelial shedding, border brush, inflammatory cell infiltration and protein casts were serious after 24 to 48 h reperfusion, while only slight tubular cell shedding and necrosis could be found in the MgSO4 group at the matched time. CONCLUSION: Magnesium supplement can significantly relieve the renal ischemia reperfusion injury. It can inhibit the upregulated expression of HSP70 and HSP70-mRNA in vivo, which demonstrates that the expression of HSP70 is not necessary in the protective mechanism.

OBJECTIVE: To study the efficacy and safety of Eviprostat for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). METHODS: An open, multicentral clinical trial was conducted in 100 patients with BPH. Patients received a 12-week oral administration of Eviprostat 2 tablets per-time, 3 times a day. The main indexes of efficacy include international prostatic symptom score (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), residual urine ( Ru) and prostatic volume (V). The additional indexes are quality of life score (QOL) and average urinary flow rate (Qave). RESULTS: After a 12-week therapy, IPSS, QOL score, Qmax and Qave were significantly improved. IPSS was averagely decreased by 5.67 (P < 0.001); QOL score was averagely decreased by 1.44 (P < 0.001); Qmax was averagely increased by 1.70 ml/s (P <0.001); Qave was averagely increased by 1.15 ml/s (P < 0.001); Ru was averagely decreased by 5.07 ml (P = 0.046) , PSA level was averagely decreased by 0.129 microg/L (P < 0.017). The clinical adverse event rate was 1%. CONCLUSION: Eviprostat is a kind of safe, effective and preferable drug for treating BPH. It can improve the subjective symptoms and objective measures of the patients.
