RESUMO

The well-known neuroprotective role and involvement of vitamin D in the function of the central nervous system has raised the speculation about the possible antiseizure effect of vitamin D supplementation. This issue is crucial when considering people with epilepsy (PWE), who frequently display vitamin D deficiency, but nowadays data are still unconclusive. In our study, we enrolled 25 adult patients affected by drug-resistant epilepsy and hypovitaminosis D to test the effect of Calcifediol on seizure frequency after 6 months of supplementation. Our findings evidenced that Calcifediol administration completely restored 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OHD) and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) serum values (p < 0.001 for both) without significant changes of median seizure frequency (-6.1%). Anyway, we observed some rate of PWE responders (32%) to Calcifediol supplementation. Further randomized controlled trials with larger subjects 'samples will be needed to verify the possible antiseizure effect of vitamin D.

PURPOSE: We aimed to assess the combined role of vitamin D and albumin serum levels as predictors of COVID-19 disease progression. METHODS: We conducted a prospective observational study on adult patients hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia (March-September 2020). Vitamin D and albumin serum levels were measured on admission. These variables were categorized in albumin < 3.5 or ≥ 3.5 g/dL and vitamin D < 30 ng/mL or ≥ 30 ng/mL. We excluded patients with known bone diseases, renal failure, hypercalcemia and/or treated with antiepileptic drugs and steroids, and patients who received previous vitamin D supplementation. A composite outcome including any ventilatory support, PaO2/FiO2 ratio, and 60-day mortality was defined. RESULTS: Sixty-nine patients were enrolled, of whom 50% received non-invasive (NIV) or invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), 10% died, whereas 89% and 66% presented low albumin and low vitamin D serum levels, respectively. No correlation between vitamin D and albumin levels was found. In multivariable logistic regression analyses adjusted for sex and age-corrected comorbidities, patients having albumin < 3.5 g/dL and vitamin D < 30 ng/mL showed a significant increased risk for all study outcomes, namely NIV/IMV (OR 3.815; 95% CI 1.122-12.966; p = 0.032), NIV/IMV or death (OR 3.173; 95% CI 1.002-10.043; p = 0.049) and PaO2/FIO2 ≤ 100 (OR 3.410; 95% CI 1.138-10.219; p = 0.029). CONCLUSION: The measurement of both vitamin D and serum albumin levels on COVID-19 patients' admission, and their combined evaluation, provides a simple prognostic tool that could be employed to guide prompt clinical decisions.

Phenolic compounds are natural phytochemicals that have recently reported numerous health benefits. Resveratrol, curcumin, and quercetin have recently received the most attention among these molecules due to their documented antioxidant effects. The review aims to investigate the effects of these molecules on bone metabolism and their role in several diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, bone tumours, and periodontitis. The PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Embase electronic databases were searched for papers in line with the study topic. According to an English language restriction, the screening period was from January 2012 to 3 July 2022, with the following Boolean keywords: ("resveratrol" AND "bone"); ("curcumin" AND "bone"); ("quercetin" AND "bone"). A total of 36 papers were identified as relevant to the purpose of our investigation. The studies reported the positive effects of the investigated phenolic compounds on bone metabolism and their potential application as adjuvant treatments for osteoporosis, bone tumours, and periodontitis. Furthermore, their use on the titanium surfaces of orthopaedic prostheses could represent a possible application to improve the osteogenic processes and osseointegration. According to the study findings, resveratrol, curcumin, and quercetin are reported to have a wide variety of beneficial effects as supplement therapies. The investigated phenolic compounds seem to positively mediate bone metabolism and osteoclast-related pathologies.

In hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT), calcium supplementation is virtually always required, although the disease is likely to be associated with an increased risk of nephrolithiasis. The use of calcium citrate (Ca-Cit) theoretically could have a positive impact on the nephrolithiasis risk because citrate salts are used to reduce this risk. Our objective was to evaluate the potential therapeutic advantage of Ca-Cit in comparison with calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ) in HypoPT, on nephrolithiasis risk factors, as well as to their ability to maintain desirable serum calcium levels. We also evaluated these preparations on quality of life (QOL). This randomized, double-blind, crossover trial recruited 24 adults with postsurgical chronic hypoparathyroidism at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. Participants were randomized 1:1 to Ca-Cit or CaCO3 for 1 month and then crossed over to the other treatment for another month. The primary outcomes were changes in albumin-adjusted serum calcium and in ion activity product of calcium oxalate levels (AP[CaOx] index). Secondary efficacy outcomes included changes in SF-36 survey score, fatigue score, constipation, and adverse events. No difference in terms of AP(CaOx) index was observed between the two groups. However, Ca-Cit was associated with a significant reduction in the oxalate/creatinine ratio compared with CaCO3 (-2.46 mmol/mol [SD 11.93] versus 7.42 mmol/mol [SD 17.63], p = 0.029). Serum calcium and phosphorus concentration was not different between the two calcium preparations. Ca-Cit was associated with less constipation (p = 0.047). No difference was found in QOL scores. Although Ca-Cit did not modify the AP(CaOx) index when compared with CaCO3, it was associated with a reduction in urinary oxalate excretion that could have a potential beneficial effect on nephrolithiasis risk. These results are likely to have clinical implications in HypoPT, particularly those who do not tolerate CaCO3 and those affected by nephrolithiasis. A longer-term experience is needed to confirm these findings. © 2022 The Authors. OBJECTIVES: To report the results of a multicenter retrospective evaluation of the clinical outcomes of thermal ablation (TA) in a large series of autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTN) with a follow-up protracted up to 3 years. METHODS: Patients treated with single TA for an AFTN in Italy were included. Changes in nodule volume, TSH values, and ongoing anti-thyroid therapy were assessed at the 2-, 6-, 12-, 24-, and 36-month follow-up controls. Complications and need of any additional therapy after TA were also registered. RESULTS: A total of 361 patients (244 females, 117 males, median age 58 years, IQR 46-70 years) were included. Nodule volume was significantly reduced at all time points (p < 0.001) (median volume reduction 58% at 6-month and 60% at 12-month). Serum TSH values increased significantly at all time points. After TA, anti-thyroid therapy was withdrawn in 32.5% of patients at 2 months, in 38.9% at 6 months, and in 41.3% at 12 months. A significant difference in the rate of patients who withdrawn medical therapy at 12 months was registered between small (< 10 mL) (74%), medium (49%), or large (> 30 mL) nodules (19%). A single major complication occurred (0.25%). Additional treatments were needed in 34/361 (9.4%) of cases including 4 (1.1%) surgical treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Image-guided thermal ablation offers a further safe and effective therapeutic option in patients with AFTN. Clinical outcomes are significantly more favorable in small than in large size AFTN. KEY POINTS: • Thermal ablations (TA) can be safely and effectively used in patients with autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTN). • TA results in a clinically significant nodule volume reduction that is paralleled by TSH level normalization and anti-thyroid drug therapy discontinuation (after TA anti-thyroid therapy was withdrawn in 41.3% at 12 months). • Clinical outcomes after TA are more favorable in small nodules, and when a large amount of thyroid nodule tissue is ablated.

CONTEXT: Numerous studies have demonstrated detrimental skeletal consequences following bariatric surgery. METHODS: A working group of the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) performed an updated review of existing literature on changes of bone turnover markers (BTMs), bone mineral density (BMD), and fracture risk following bariatric surgery and provided advice on management based on expert opinion. LITERATURE REVIEW: Based on observational studies, bariatric surgery is associated with a 21-44% higher risk of all fractures. Fracture risk is time-dependent and increases approximately 3 years after bariatric surgery. The bariatric procedures that have a malabsorptive component (including Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass (RYGB) and biliopancreatic diversion (BPD)) have clearly been associated with the highest risk of fracture. The extent of high-turnover bone loss suggests a severe skeletal insult. This is associated with diminished bone strength and compromised microarchitecture. RYGB was the most performed bariatric procedure worldwide until very recently, when sleeve gastrectomy (SG) became more prominent. There is growing evidence that RYGB is associated with greater reduction in BMD, greater increase in BTMs, and higher risk of fractures compared with SG but RCTs on optimal management are still lacking. EXPERT OPINION: In all patients, it is mandatory to treat vitamin D deficiency, to achieve adequate daily calcium and protein intake and to promote physical activity before and following bariatric surgery. In post-menopausal women and men older than 50 years, osteoporosis treatment would be reasonable in the presence of any of the following criteria: i) history of recent fragility fracture after 40 years of age, ii) BMD T-score ≤ -2 at hip or spine, iii) FRAX score with femoral neck BMD exceeding 20% for the 10-year major osteoporotic fracture probability or exceeding 3% for hip fracture. Zoledronate as first choice should be preferred due to intolerance of oral formulations and malabsorption. Zoledronate should be used with caution due to hypocemia risk. It is recommended to ensure adequate 25-OH vitamin D level and calcium supplementation before administering zoledronate. CONCLUSIONS: The bariatric procedures that have a malabsorptive component have been associated with the highest turnover bone loss and risk of fracture. There is a knowledge gap on osteoporosis treatment in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. More research is necessary to direct and support guidelines.

CONTEXT: Hypoparathyroidism is characterized by insufficient levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH). TransCon PTH is an investigational long-acting prodrug of PTH(1-34) for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism. OBJECTIVE: This work aimed to investigate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of daily TransCon PTH in adults with hypoparathyroidism. METHODS: This phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled 4-week trial with open-label extension enrolled 59 individuals with hypoparathyroidism. Interventions included TransCon PTH 15, 18, or 21 µg PTH(1-34)/day or placebo for 4 weeks, followed by a 22-week extension during which TransCon PTH dose was titrated (6-60 µg PTH[1-34]/day). RESULTS: By Week 26, 91% of participants treated with TransCon PTH achieved independence from standard of care (SoC, defined as active vitamin D = 0 µg/day and calcium [Ca] ≤ 500 mg/day). Mean 24-hour urine Ca (uCa) decreased from a baseline mean of 415 mg/24h to 178 mg/24h by Week 26 (n = 44) while normal serum Ca (sCa) was maintained and serum phosphate and serum calcium-phosphate product fell within the normal range. By Week 26, mean scores on the generic 36-Item Short Form Health Survey domains increased from below normal at baseline to within the normal range. The Hypoparathyroidism Patient Experience Scale symptom and impact scores improved through 26 weeks. TransCon PTH was well tolerated with no treatment-related serious or severe adverse events. CONCLUSION: TransCon PTH enabled independence from oral active vitamin D and reduced Ca supplements (≤ 500 mg/day) for most participants, achieving normal sCa, serum phosphate, uCa, serum calcium-phosphate product, and demonstrating improved health-related quality of life. These results support TransCon PTH as a potential hormone replacement therapy for adults with hypoparathyroidism.

Despite the large number of patients worldwide being on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, uncertainty remains over their long-term safety. Particularly, the potential side effects of these drugs on bone health have been evaluated in the last years. The purpose of our narrative review is to gather and discuss results of clinical studies focusing on the interactions between PPIs and fracture risk. Data generated mainly from nested case-control studies and meta-analysis suggest that long-term/high-dose PPIs users are characterized by an increased risk of fragility fractures, mainly hip fractures. However, in these studies, the PPIs-induced bone impairment is often not adjusted for different confounding variables that could potentially affect bone health, and exposure to PPIs was reported using medical prescriptions without adherence evaluation. The mechanisms of the PPI-related bone damage are still unclear, but impaired micronutrients absorption, hypergastrinemia, and increased secretion of histamine may play a role. Clinicians should pay attention when prescribing PPIs to subjects with a preexistent high risk of fractures and consider antiosteoporotic drugs to manage this additive effect on the bone. However, further studies are needed to clarify PPIs action on the bone.

Inadequate serum selenium levels may delay the growth and physiological changes in bone metabolism. In humans, reduced serum selenium concentrations are associated with both increased bone turnover and reduced bone mineral density. Moreover, a reduced nutritional intake of selenium may lead to an increased risk of bone disease. Therefore, selenium is an essential nutrient playing a role in bone health, probably due to specific selenium-proteins. Some selenium-proteins have an antioxidation enzymatic activity and participate in maintaining the redox cellular balance, regulating inflammation and proliferation/differentiation of bone cells too. At least nine selenium-proteins are known to be expressed by fetal osteoblasts and appear to protect bone cells from oxidative stress at bone microenvironment. Mutations of selenium-proteins and reduced circulating levels of selenium are known to be associated with skeletal diseases such as the Kashin-Beck osteoarthropathy and postmenopausal osteoporosis. In addition, the intake of selenium appears to be inversely related to the risk of hip fragility fractures. Recent data suggest that an altered selenium state may affect bone mass even in males and selenium-proteins and selenium concentrations were positively associated with the bone mass at femoral, total and trochanteric sites. However, selenium, but not selenium-proteins, seems to be associated with femoral neck bone mass after adjustment for many bone fracture risk factors. The present review summarizes the findings of observational and interventional studies, which have been designed for investigating the relationship between selenium and bone metabolism.

PURPOSE: Hypoparathyroidism (hypoPT) results in an impairment of quality of life (QoL), an increase in fatigue and a higher risk of mortality. Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is an impairment of the cardiovascular autonomic system and is associated with increased mortality and fatigability. Patients with hypoPT show an increased risk of CAN. However, no previous studies have investigated the association between CAN and QoL in hypoPT. To test whether CAN is associated with fatigue and impaired QOL in hypoPT patients. METHODS: We enrolled 48 subjects with postsurgical hypoPT treated with calcium and calcitriol and 38 healthy subjects who underwent thyroidectomy. Subjects completed the RAND 36-Item Short Form (SF-36) Health Survey, evaluating physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) health, and fatigue score. CAN was assessed using cardiovascular autonomic reflex tests (CARTs). Participants were considered to have "early CAN" (EC) if they had one abnormal CART and "definite CAN" (DC) with two or more abnormal CARTs. RESULTS: Compared with controls, hypoPT population had lower fatigue scores (44.5 IQRː9 vs 38.5 IQRː12.3, P = 0.031). In the hypoPT group, only participants with DC had a lower fatigue score than subjects without CAN (DC: ß: -9.55, P = 0.005) after adjusting for age, duration of disease, calcium concentration, TSH, calcitriol and calcium supplementation. No differences were found in the PCS and MCS scores in the hypoPT group. CONCLUSIONS: CAN may explain fatigue, a common complaint of postsurgical hypoPT patients. Further larger and prospective investigations are needed to confirm our findings.

Adequate daily calcium intake should normally be achieved by dietary sources. Since low calcium diets are quite common in subjects that do not reach the recommended intake and particularly those at risk of fractures, calcium supplements may become necessary. Different forms of calcium salts are available, but products containing calcium citrate and calcium carbonate complexes are the most frequently used. Although only limited evidence on the efficacy and long-term safety of calcium citrate is available, these supplements may represent a valuable product for the management of different chronic pathological conditions. The aim of this review was to evaluate the current and potential clinical applications of calcium citrate. In particular, we focused on the use of calcium citrate supplementation in subjects with osteoporosis or in bariatric patients. Other pathological conditions that could benefit calcium citrate supplementation may include achloridria, chronic hypoparathyroidism and hypocitraturic subjects with moderate/high risk of nephrolithiasis. Indeed, citrate salts are widely used in the treatment of nephrolithiasis, since they have shown an inhibitory effect on kidney stone formation and recurrence.

Hypovitaminosis D is becoming a notable health problem worldwide. A consensus exists among several different medical societies as to the need for adequate levels of vitamin D for bone and general health. The correct method by which to restore normal vitamin D levels is still a matter of debate. Although cholecalciferol remains the most commonly distributed form of vitamin D supplementation worldwide, several drugs with vitamin D activity are available for clinical use, and making the correct selection for the individual patient may be challenging. In this narrative review, we aim to contribute to the current knowledge base on the possible and appropriate use of calcifediol-the 25-alpha-hydroxylated metabolite-in relation to its chemical characteristics, its biological properties, and its pathophysiological aspects. Furthermore, we examine the trials that have aimed to evaluate the effect of calcifediol on the restoration of normal vitamin D levels. Calcifediol is more soluble than cholecalciferol in organic solvents, due to its high polarity. Good intestinal absorption and high affinity for the vitamin-D-binding protein positively affect the bioavailability of calcifediol compared with cholecalciferol. In particular, orally administered calcifediol shows a much shorter half-life than oral cholecalciferol. Most findings suggest that oral calcifediol is about three- to five-fold more powerful than oral cholecalciferol, and that it has a higher rate of intestinal absorption. Accordingly, calcifediol can be particularly useful in treating diseases associated with decreased intestinal absorption, as well as obesity (given its lower trapping in the adipose tissue) and potentially neurological diseases treated with drugs that interfere with the hepatic cytochrome P-450 enzyme system, resulting in decreased synthesis of calcifediol. Up to now, there has not been enough clinical evidence for its use in the context of osteoporosis treatment.

PURPOSE: To evaluate serum markers of calcium metabolism in adult patients with epilepsy (PWE) treated with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and the effect of vitamin D supplementation on seizure frequency. METHODS: Serum levels of calcium, phosphate, intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) were compared in 160 PWE on chronic therapy with AEDs and 42 matched controls. Blood concentrations were analyzed taking into account the different features of epilepsy and treatment. Finally, the effect of vitamin D supplementation on seizure control was assessed in a subgroup of 48 drug resistant epileptic patients. RESULTS: PWE showed lower serum levels of 25[OH]D compared to control subjects (p < .001). Only 25% PWE showed normal 25[OH]D levels, whereas 41,9% had a vitamin D failure and 33,1% a vitamin D deficiency (p < .001). 25[OH]D serum levels depended on treatment duration, number of medications and enzyme-inducing AEDs (p < .001, p < .001, p = .013, respectively). Polytherapy and enzyme-inducing AEDs showed more detrimental effects on the 25[OH]D and calcium serum levels. The administration of vitamin D failed to significantly improve seizure control. CONCLUSIONS: PWE show deficiency of vitamin D. The serum levels of 25[OH]D depend on the features and duration of AEDs treatment. Vitamin D administration in drug resistant epilepsy patients does not result in a reduction of seizure frequency.

Context: Daily parathyroid hormone (PTH) (1-34) administrations can reduce the required total daily dose of calcium and calcitriol and restore normocalcemia in refractory hypoparathyroidism. However, most PTH(1-34) trials have been conducted on small cohorts including subjects with hypoparathyroidism of various etiologies, and quality of life (QOL) was not investigated. Objective: To investigate the effects of 24-month PTH(1-34) treatment in a homogeneous cohort of adult subjects with postoperative hypoparathyroidism and to evaluate QOL changes. Design: Prospective open-label study. Setting: Italian multicenter study. Participants: 42 subjects. Intervention: Twice-daily PTH(1-34) 20 µg subcutaneous injection. Main Outcome Measures: Calcium and vitamin D supplementation requirements, serum calcium, phosphate, and urinary calcium excretion (3, 6, 12, 18, 24 months). At baseline and at 6 and 24 months, QOL was evaluated by the RAND 36-Item Short Form (SF-36) Health Survey, covering eight domains of physical and mental health. Results: Mean serum calcium concentration significantly increased from baseline to 3 months (7.6 ± 0.6 vs 8.9 ± 1.1 mg/dL, P < 0.001) and remained stable until the end of the study, despite reductions in calcium and vitamin D supplementation. Phosphate levels gradually decreased from baseline to 6 months (4.3 ± 1.1 vs 3.9 ± 0.6 mg/dL, P < 0.019), remaining stable until 24 months. Serum alkaline phosphatase and calcium excretion gradually increased from baseline to 24 months. Data from SF-36 showed a significant improvement in the mean scores of all eight domains (P < 0.001). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the efficacy and safety of PTH(1-34) to treat adult patients with postsurgical hypoparathyroidism. PTH(1-34) may improve their mental and physical health.

Vitamin K is a liposoluble vitamin. The predominant dietary form, phylloquinone or vitamin K1, is found in plants and green vegetables; whereas menaquinone, or vitamin K2, is endogenously synthesized by intestinal bacteria and includes several subtypes that differ in side chain length. Aside from its established role in blood clotting, several studies now support a critical function of vitamin K in improving bone health. Vitamin K is in fact required for osteocalcin carboxylation that in turn regulates bone mineral accretion; it seems to promote the transition of osteoblasts to osteocytes and also limits the process of osteoclastogenesis. Several observational and interventional studies have examined the relationship between vitamin K and bone metabolism, but findings are conflicting and unclear. This systematic review aims to investigate the impact of vitamin K (plasma levels, dietary intake, and oral supplementation) on bone health with a particular interest in bone remodeling, mineral density and fragility fractures.

CONTEXT: There are no studies evaluating teriparatide for prevention of post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to evaluate whether teriparatide can prevent postsurgical hypocalcemia and shorten the hospitalization in subjects at high risk of hypocalcemia following thyroid surgery. DESIGN: This was a prospective phase II randomized open-label trial. SETTING: This trial was set on a surgical ward. PATIENTS: Twenty-six subjects (six males, 20 females) with intact PTH lower than10 pg/ml 4 hours after thyroidectomy were included. INTERVENTION: Subjects were randomized (1:1) to receive SC administration of 20 mcg of teriparatide every 12 hours until the discharge (treatment group) or to follow standard clinical care (control group). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Adjusted serum calcium, duration of hospitalization, and calcium/calcitriol supplementation were measured. RESULTS: Overall, the incidence of hypocalcemia was 3/13 in treatment group and 11/13 in the control group (P = .006). Treated patients had a lower risk of hypocalcemia than controls (relative risk, 0.26 [95% confidence interval, 0.09-0.723)]). The median duration of hospitalization was 3 days (interquartile range, 1) in control subjects and 2 days (interquartile range, 0) in treated subjects (P = .012). One month after discharge, 10/13 subjects in the treatment group had stopped calcium carbonate supplements, while only 5/13 in the control group had discontinued calcium. The ANOVA for repeated measures showed a significant difference in calcium supplements between groups at 1-month visit (P = .04) as well as a significant difference between discharge and 1-month visit in the treatment group (P for interaction time group = .04) Conclusions: Teriparatide may prevent postsurgical hypocalcemia, shorten the duration of hospitalization, and reduce the need for calcium and vitamin D supplementation after discharge in high risk subjects after thyroid surgery.

CONTEXT: Conventional therapy for hypoparathyroidism consists of calcium and calcitriol, but sometimes normal serum calcium cannot be maintained, and/or this approach might lead to nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, or renal insufficiency. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of 6 months of PTH(1-34) treatment in adult subjects with postoperative hypoparathyroidism and to evaluate quality-of-life changes. DESIGN: This was a 2-year prospective, open-label study. At baseline and after 6 months of PTH(1-34) treatment, calcium and vitamin D supplementation requirements, serum calcium, phosphate, creatinine, alkaline phosphatase, uric acid, and 24-hour urinary calcium excretion were evaluated. Quality of life was evaluated by the Rand 36-Item Short Form Health Survey covering eight domains of physical and mental health. SETTING: This was an Italian multicentric study. PARTICIPANTS: Participants included 42 subjects with surgical hypoparathyroidism (90% females, age range 34-77 y). INTERVENTION: The intervention included a twice-daily PTH(1-34) 20 µg sc injection. RESULTS: The mean serum calcium levels significantly increased from baseline to 15 days (7.6 ± 0.6 vs 9.1 ± 0.9 mg/dL, P < .001) and remained stable until the end of the observational period, despite a significant reduction in calcium and vitamin D supplementation. Phosphate levels gradually decreased from baseline to the sixth month (P = .005 for the trend), whereas the alkaline phosphatase increased (P < .001). Data from the Rand 36-Item Short Form Health Survey showed a significant improvement in the mean scores of all eight domains (P < .001). CONCLUSION: This is the largest study that demonstrates the effectiveness of PTH(1-34) in the treatment of adult patients with postsurgical hypoparathyroidism, and it shows that PTH(1-34) may improve the mental and physical health in hypoparathyroid subjects.
