ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Lizhong decoction (LZD), a classical herbal prescription recorded by Zhang Zhongjing in Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, has been extensively used to treat ulcerative colitis (UC) in clinical practice for thousands of years. However, its material basis and underlying mechanism are not yet clear. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims to explore the material basis and potential mechanism of LZD against UC based on the spectrum-effect relationship and network pharmacology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: First, LZD was extracted by a systematic solvent extraction method into four parts. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) technique was used to identify the compounds from different polar parts, and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis model was used to evaluate the efficacy of each fraction. Then, the spectrum-effect analyses of compounds and efficacy indicators were established via grey relational analysis (GRA), bivariate correlation analysis (BCA) and partial least squares regression (PLSR). Finally, the potential mechanism of LZD for UC therapy was explored by network pharmacology, and the results were further verified by molecular docking and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). RESULTS: 66 chemical components of LZD were identified by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS technology. The pharmacodynamic results showed that extraction parts of LZD had different therapeutic effects on UC, among which ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts had significant anti-colitis effects, which might be the main effective fractions of LZD. Furthermore, the spectrum-effect analyses indicated that 21 active ingredients such as liquiritin apioside, neolicuroside, formononetin, ginsenoside Rg1, 6-gingesulfonic acid, licoricesaponin A3, liquiritin, glycyrrhizic acid were the main material basis for LZD improving UC. Based on the above results, network pharmacology suggested that the amelioration of LZD on UC might be closely related to the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. Additionally, molecular docking technology and RT-qPCR further verified that LZD could markedly inhibit the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: Overall, our study first identified the chemical compositions of LZD by using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS. Furthermore, the material basis and potential mechanism of LZD in improving UC were comprehensively elucidated via spectrum-effect relationships, network pharmacology, molecular docking and experimental verification. The proposed strategy provided a systematic approach for exploring how herbal medicines worked. More importantly, it laid the solid foundation for further clinical application and rational development of LZD.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is considered a valuable asset in China's medical tradition. YPF is a classic prescription that has been derived from the "Jiu Yuan Fang" formula and consists of three herbs: Huangqi (Astragalus membranaceus Bunge), Baizhu (Atractylodes rubra Dekker), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk). This prescription is widely acclaimed for its exceptional pharmacological properties, including potent antioxidant effects, hormone regulation, and immune modulation effects. AIM OF THE STUDY: Previous research provides evidence suggesting that YPF may have therapeutic effects on pulmonary fibrosis. Further exploration is essential to confirm its effectiveness and elucidate the fundamental processes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: First, the active components and target genes of YPF were extracted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) database. Next, the GSE53845 dataset, which contains information on pulmonary fibrosis, was downloaded from the GEO database. Network informatics methods was then be utilized to identify target genes associated with pulmonary fibrosis. A YPF-based network of protein-protein interactions was constructed to pinpoint possible target genes for pulmonary fibrosis treatment. Additionally, an in vitro model of pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin (BLM) was established to further investigate and validate the possible mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of YPF. RESULTS: In this study, a total of 24 active ingredients of YPF, along with 178 target genes associated with the treatment, were identified. Additionally, 615 target genes related to pulmonary fibrosis were identified. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that 18 candidate genes (CGs) exhibited significant responses to tumor necrosis factor, NF-kB survival signaling, and positive regulation of apoptosis processes. Among these CGs, CAV1, VCAM1, and TP63 were identified as key target genes. Furthermore, cell experiments confirmed that the expression of CAV1 protein and RNA expression was increased in pulmonary fibrosis, but significantly decreased after treatment with YPF. Additionally, the expression of pSmad2, α-SMA, TGF-ß1, and TNF-α was also decreased following YPF treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Network pharmacology analysis revealed that YPF exhibits significant potential as a therapeutic intervention for pulmonary fibrosis by targeting various compounds and pathways. This study emphasizes that the efficacy of YPF in treating pulmonary fibrosis may be attributed to its ability to up-regulate CAV1 expression and inhibiting pulmonary fibrosis via modulation of the TGF-ß1/Smad2 signaling pathway. These findings underscore the promising role of YPF and its ability to potentially alleviate pulmonary fibrosis.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated trends in the study of phytochemical treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). METHODS: The Web of Science database (2007-2022) was searched using the search terms "phytochemicals" and "PTSD," and relevant literature was compiled. Network clustering co-occurrence analysis and qualitative narrative review were conducted. RESULTS: Three hundred and one articles were included in the analysis of published research, which has surged since 2015 with nearly half of all relevant articles coming from North America. The category is dominated by neuroscience and neurology, with two journals, Addictive Behaviors and Drug and Alcohol Dependence, publishing the greatest number of papers on these topics. Most studies focused on psychedelic intervention for PTSD. Three timelines show an "ebb and flow" phenomenon between "substance use/marijuana abuse" and "psychedelic medicine/medicinal cannabis." Other phytochemicals account for a small proportion of the research and focus on topics like neurosteroid turnover, serotonin levels, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression. CONCLUSION: Research on phytochemicals and PTSD is unevenly distributed across countries/regions, disciplines, and journals. Since 2015, the research paradigm shifted to constitute the mainstream of psychedelic research thus far, leading to the exploration of botanical active ingredients and molecular mechanisms. BACKGROUND: Depression is one of the most common symptoms in patients with dementia. OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of light therapy on depression associated with dementia by using a single scale. METHODS: Published studies based on the terms including "Dementia", "depression", and "Phototherapy" were searched. Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CiNii, CNKI, Wanfang Database, and China Biology Medicine disc were adopted to collect randomized controlled studies or cross-controlled studies using the Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia (CSDD) until February 2022. GRADE and Review Manager Version 5.4.1 were employed to assess the risk of bias. A meta-analysis was conducted by R 4.0.2 software based on the changes in CSDD scores. RESULTS: A total of 1,055 studies were retrieved from the databases, and six studies were included after screening. Some 406 people with dementia were included with an average age of over 80 years. Forest plot results showed that light intervention improved depression scores of dementia patients (MD = -2.59, 95% CI: -4.46 to -0.71), and light intensity less than 1,000 lux improved depression symptoms of dementia patients (MD = -2.76, 95% CI: -4.55 to -0.97). An intervention that lasted 8 to 12 weeks was the most effective (MD = -3.77, 95% CI: -6.93 to -0.60), and non-stable interventions such as ceiling LED lights exerted more positive effects (MD = -2.12, 95% CI: -3.38 to -0.85). CONCLUSION: The overall results of the meta-analysis suggested that light intervention can improve the depressive symptoms of older patients with dementia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the factors related to renal impairment in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) from the perspective of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. METHODS: Totally 492 patients with DKD in 8 Chinese hospitals from October 2017 to July 2019 were included. According to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) staging guidelines, patients were divided into a chronic kidney disease (CKD) 1-3 group and a CKD 4-5 group. Clinical data were collected, and logistic regression was used to analyze the factors related to different CKD stages in DKD patients. RESULTS: Demographically, male was a factor related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD (OR=3.100, P=0.002). In clinical characteristics, course of diabetes >60 months (OR=3.562, P=0.010), anemia (OR=4.176, P<0.001), hyperuricemia (OR=3.352, P<0.001), massive albuminuria (OR=4.058, P=0.002), atherosclerosis (OR=2.153, P=0.007) and blood deficiency syndrome (OR=1.945, P=0.020) were factors related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD. CONCLUSIONS: Male, course of diabetes >60 months, anemia, hyperuricemia, massive proteinuria, atherosclerosis, and blood deficiency syndrome might indicate more severe degree of renal function damage in patients with DKD. BACKGROUND: Intensive phototherapy (IPT) and exchange transfusion (ET) are the main treatments for extreme hyperbilirubinemia. However, there is no reliable evidence on determining the thresholds for these treatments. This multicenter study compared the effectiveness and complications of IPT and ET in the treatment of extreme hyperbilirubinemia. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in seven centers from January 2015 to January 2018. Patients with extreme hyperbilirubinemia that met the criteria of ET were included. Patients were divided into three subgroups (low-, medium-, and high- risk) according to gestational week and risk factors. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to balance the data before treatment. Study outcomes included the development of bilirubin encephalopathy, duration of hospitalization, expenses, and complications. Mortality, auditory complications, seizures, enamel dysplasia, ocular motility disorders, athetosis, motor, and language development were evaluated during follow-up at age of 3 years. RESULTS: A total of 1164 patients were included in this study. After PSM, 296 patients in the IPT only group and 296 patients in the IPT plus ET group were further divided into the low-, medium-, and high-risk subgroups with 188, 364, and 40 matched patients, respectively. No significant differences were found between the IPT only and IPT plus ET groups in terms of morbidity, complications, and sequelae. Hospitalization duration and expenses were lower in the low- and medium-risk subgroups in the IPT only group. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, our results suggest that IPT is a safe and effective treatment for extreme hyperbilirubinemia. The indication of ET for patients with hyperbilirubinemia could be stricter. However, it is necessary to have a contingency plan for emergency ET as soon as IPT is commenced especially for infants with risk factors. If IPT can be guaranteed and proved to be therapeutic, ET should be avoided as much as possible.

This study compared the efficacy of modified CO2 laser-assisted sclerectomy surgery (CLASS) with combined CLASS and trabeculectomy (CLASS-TRAB) in patients with uveitic glaucoma (UG). UG patients who underwent CLASS-TRAB between August 2015 and April 2019 were retrospectively compared with a control group who underwent a modified CLASS standalone procedure during the same period. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), use of supplemental medical therapy and postoperative complications were recorded at baseline, 1 week, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. Forty patients (40 eyes) were enrolled, and each group had 20 patients (20 eyes). The age and sex distribution were matched between groups (P > 0.05). Both the preoperative IOP (CLASS: 34.9 ± 9.3 mmHg, CLASS-TRAB: 36.8 ± 8.7 mmHg; P > 0.05) and number of glaucoma medications (CLASS: 3.3 ± 0.4, CLASS-TRAB: 3.5 ± 0.5; P > 0.05) were relatively higher in the CLASS-TRAB group than in the CLASS group. At the final follow-up, the IOP (CLASS: 12.9 ± 3.4 mmHg, CLASS-TRAB: 11.2 ± 2.5 mmHg) and number of glaucoma medications (CLASS: 0.4 ± 0.7 and CLASS-TRAB: 0.2 ± 0.5) significantly decreased in both groups (P < 0.01). Both the complete success rate and qualified success rate were comparable between the two groups (CLASS versus CLASS-TRAB: 55% versus 80%, P = 0.09; 80% versus 95%, P = 0.34). CLASS-TRAB is as efficient as modified CLASS in terms of the IOP-lowering effect, providing a new option for patients with UG that is severe and ineligible for other treatments.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetes are the leading causes of death worldwide, which underlines the urgent necessity to develop new pharmacotherapies. Cinnamon has been an eminent component of spice and traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Numerous lines of findings have elucidated that cinnamon has beneficial effects against CVDs in various ways, including endothelium protection, regulation of immune response, lowering blood lipids, antioxidative properties, anti-inflammatory properties, suppression of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) growth and mobilization, repression of platelet activity and thrombosis and inhibition of angiogenesis. Furthermore, emerging evidence has established that cinnamon improves diabetes, a crucial risk factor for CVDs, by enhancing insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion; regulating the enzyme activity involved in glucose; regulating glucose metabolism in the liver, adipose tissue and muscle; ameliorating oxidative stress and inflammation to protect islet cells; and improving diabetes complications. In this review, we summarized the mechanisms by which cinnamon regulates CVDs and diabetes in order to provide a theoretical basis for the further clinical application of cinnamon.

METHODS: The targets of antineoplastic drugs with cardiotoxicity were obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) database, and Swiss Target Prediction platform. Then, the cardiotoxicity-related targets were derived from the Gene Cards, Disgenet, OMIM, and DrugBank databases, as well as the drug of current clinical guidelines. The targets both in these two sets were regarded as potential targets to alleviate ADIC. Then, candidate compounds and herbs were matched via Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) platform. Cytoscape3.7.1 was used to set up the target-compound-herb network. Molecular docking between core targets and compounds was performed with AutodockVina1.1.2. The rules of herbs were summarized by analyzing their property, flavor, and channel tropism. RESULTS: Twenty-one potential targets, 332 candidate compounds, and 400 kinds of herbs were obtained. Five core targets including potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 2 (KCNH2), cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), mitogen-activated protein kinase1 (MAPK1), and tumor protein p53 (TP53) and 29 core compounds (beta-sitosterol, quercetin, kaempferol, etc.) were collected. Five core herbs (Yanhusuo, Gouteng, Huangbai, Lianqiao, and Gancao) were identified. Also, the TCM against ADIC were mainly bitter and acrid in taste, warm in property, and distributed to the liver and lung meridians. CONCLUSION: TCM against ADIC has great potential. Our study provides a new method and ideas for clinical applications of integrated Chinese and western medicine in treating ADIC.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is the leading cause of high morbidity and mortality worldwide, which emphasizes the urgent necessity to develop new pharmacotherapies. In eastern countries, traditional Chinese medicine Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi has been used clinically for thousands of years. Baicalin is one of the main active ingredients extracted from Chinese herbal medicine S. baicalensis. Emerging evidence has established that baicalin improves chronic inflammation, immune imbalance, disturbances in lipid metabolism, apoptosis and oxidative stress. Thereby it offers beneficial roles against the initiation and progression of CVDs such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infarction and reperfusion, and heart failure. In this review, we summarize the pharmacological features and relevant mechanisms by which baicalin regulates CVDs in the hope to reveal its application for CVDs prevention and/or therapy.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic progressive disease related to dyslipidemia, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Guanxinshutong capsule (GXST), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used in treating coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, while its mechanism actions on AS are still not to be well addressed. Our present study is aimed to examine the effect of GXST on AS and elucidate the multitarget mechanisms of GXST on AS. Network pharmacology analysis was employed to screen the multitarget mechanisms of GXST on AS. ApoE-/- mice were used to validate these effects. Circulating lipid profile and oxidative stress-related factors were measured by the Elisa kit. Furthermore, the aortic trunk and aortic root were excised for oil red O staining, histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis. We first discovered that GXST was clued to exert synergistically antiatherosclerosis properties including lipid-lowering, anti-inflammation, and antioxidation through the computational prediction based on a network pharmacology simulation. Next, the validation experiments in atherosclerosis mice provided evidence that GXST significantly reduced atherosclerotic lesions, increased collagen deposition, and attenuated LV remodeling to some extent. Mechanistically, GXST modulated lipid profile, downregulated the level of inflammatory cytokines and NF-κBp65. GXST also reduced the activity of oxidative parameter MDA and upregulated the activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD and GSH) compared with the AS model group. In conclusion, GXST intervention might attenuate atherosclerosis by mechanisms involving reducing lipid deposition, modulating oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, but a larger controlled trial is necessary for confirmation.

ShuFeng JieDu capsule (SFJDC), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been recommended for the treatment of COVID-19 infections. However, the pharmacological mechanism of SFJDC still remains vague to date. The active ingredients and their target genes of SFJDC were collected from TCMSP. COVID-19 is a type of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP). NCP-related target genes were collected from GeneCards database. The ingredients-targets network of SFJDC and PPI networks were constructed. The candidate genes were screened by Venn diagram package for enrichment analysis. The gene-pathway network was structured to obtain key target genes. In total, 124 active ingredients, 120 target genes of SFJDC and 251 NCP-related target genes were collected. The functional annotations cluster 1 of 23 candidate genes (CGs) were related to lung and Virus infection. RELA, MAPK1, MAPK14, CASP3, CASP8 and IL6 were the key target genes. The results suggested that SFJDC cloud be treated COVID-19 by multi-compounds and multi-pathways, and this study showed that the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of disease from the overall perspective.

BACKGROUND: Fat emulsion is an important component of parenteral nutrition in premature infants. However, intravenous fat emulsions (IVFE) was reported to be associated with some serious complications, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Compared to conventional soybean oil-based IVFE, new-generation IVFE may protect against BPD but the results are conflicting. METHODS: Relevant literatures search was conducted and the summary effect estimates of odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated with fixed-effects models. RESULTS: Of 22 studies involving 3781 infants were selected in this study and BPD was reported as part of the included studies. The pooled estimate for 13 studies, comparing administration of new-generation IVFE with conventional IVFE, indicated that new-generation IVFE was not associated with a reduced risk of BPD in preterm infants, compared with conventional IVFE (OR 0.96; 95% CI 0.80-1.14); the pooled estimate for 18 studies, comparing administration of fish oil-containing IVFE with non-fish oil IVFE, indicated that fish oil-containing IVFE has no protective effect against the occurrence of BPD in preterm infants (OR 0.88; 95% CI 0.71-1.08). CONCLUSIONS: There is no evidence to support that the new-generation IVFEs could prevent the incidence of BPD or fish oil-containing IVFEs could show a beneficial effect to BPD in premature infants.

YuPingFeng (YPF) granules are a classic herbal formula extensively used in clinical practice in China for the treatment of COPD. However, the pathological mechanisms of YPF in COPD remain undefined. In the present research, a network pharmacology-based strategy was implemented to elucidate the underlying multicomponent, multitarget, and multipathway modes of action of YPF against COPD. First, we identified putative YPF targets based on TCMSP databases and constructed a network containing interactions between putative YPF targets and known therapeutic targets of COPD. Next, two topological parameters, "degree" and "closeness," were calculated to identify target genes in the network. The major hubs were imported to the MetaCore database for pathway enrichment analysis. In total, 23 YPF active ingredients and 83 target genes associated with COPD were identified. Through protein interaction network analysis, 26 genes were identified as major hubs due to their topological importance. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis results revealed YPF to be mainly associated with the response to glucocorticoids and steroid hormones, with apoptotic and HIF-1 signalling pathways being dominant and correlative pathways. The promising utility of YPF in the treatment of COPD has been demonstrated by a network pharmacology approach.

BACKGROUND: Anemia is a common comorbidity of patients with Takayasu arteritis (TA). This study evaluated the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and treatment in Chinese TA patients with anemia. METHODS: This retrospective study included 533 consecutive patients hospitalized for TA from January 2009 to April 2018. Anemia was diagnosed on the basis of hemoglobin level, according to World Health Organization criteria. RESULTS: A total of 194 patients (36.4%) were diagnosed with anemia. Most had mild anemia (177, 91.2%). Female patients were predominant (92.8% of anemic patients). Normocytic anemia (62.9%) was the most common pattern. Anemic patients were more likely than non-anemic patients to have dizziness (29.4% vs. 21.2%), low body mass index (22.0 ± 3.6 vs. 22.9 ± 3.4 kg/m2), and active disease stage (64.9% vs. 50.1%); pulmonary involvement (12.4% vs. 26.8%), pulmonary hypertension (12.9% vs. 20.1%) and pulmonary hypertensive-target drugs (2.8% vs. 11.6%) were less common among anemic than non-anemic patients (all P < 0.05). Larger left ventricular end-diastolic diameter and lower left ventricular ejection fraction were observed in anemic patients. Over a median follow-up of four months, the increase of hemoglobin in anemic patients was associated with the use of iron supplementation. CONCLUSIONS: Anemia is a very common concurrent condition in TA, especially in young, female patients. Patients with anemia are more likely to be in the active disease stage. Iron supplementation helps increase hemoglobin.

BACKGROUND: Fluoxetine has been reported to treat anorexia nervosa (AN) caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma effectively. However, no study systematically investigated its efficacy and safety. Thus, this study will systematically assess its efficacy and safety for AN caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search for relevant studies will be conducted from the following databases from inception to the present: MEDILINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PSYCINFO, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. All randomized controlled trials on assessing the efficacy and safety of fluoxetine for AN caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma will be considered for inclusion in this study. RevMan V.5.3 software will be used for risk of bias assessment and statistical analysis. RESULTS: This study will summarize the latest evidence of fluoxetine for AN caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma through assessing outcomes of weight, depression, anxiety, and quality of life. Additionally, any adverse events will also be analyzed. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study will provide most recent evidence of fluoxetine for AN caused by chemotherapy in patients with cholangiocarcinoma. Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid has effects in clearing away heat and detoxifying,and is used to treat pharynx and throat swelling caused by the syndrome of excessive heat and toxin accumulation. Its efficacy is to relieve swelling and pain( redness,swelling and hot pain). It is included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia of 2015 Edition,and has been listed in provincial health insurance directories of Shaanxi,Jiangsu,Liaoning,Hunan,Tianjin,Xinjiang and Hebei. It has been recommended by health departments of Beijing,Chongqing and other provinces as a preferred drug for the prevention and treatment of H1 N1 and HFMD,and listed in the diagnosis and Treatment Guide of HFMD by the Ministry of Health,the Clinical Application Guide of Chinese Patent Medicine edited by the Lung Department Disease Branch of China Association of Chinese Medicine,and the Clinical Practice Guide of Single Administration/Combined Administration of Antibiotics in Treatment of Common Infectious Diseases by China Association of Chinese Medicine. To further improve the clinician's understanding of drugs and better guide the rational clinical application,we invited front-line clinical experts from respiratory department,infectious department and dermatology of traditional Chinese and Western medicine to develop and compile the expert consensus. The consensus fully considered the clinical evidence and the expert clinical experience to give recommendations for clinical problems with evidence support and consensus suggestions for clinical problems without evidence support by the nominal group method.This consensus is based on clinical research evidence and expert experience in a simple and clear format,which provides a preliminary reference for the clinical use of the drug.

Background: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a major contributor to child mortality and morbidity. Reliable prognostication for HIE is of key importance. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) is a quantitative, non-invasive method that has been demonstrated to be a suitable complementary tool for prediction. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic capability of 1H-MRS in the era of therapeutic hypothermia (TH). Methods: Databases, namely MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane library (Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials), were searched for studies published before July 17, 2017. Study selection and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. The mean difference (MD) or standardized MD (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using random-effects models. Subgroup analyses were conducted based on the use of TH. Results: Among the 1,150 relevant studies, seven were included for meta-analysis, but only two small studies were conducted under TH. For 1H-MRS measurement, three peak area ratios revealed predictive values for adverse outcomes in TH subgroup and the combined results (with and without TH): N-acetylaspartate (NAA)/creatine in basal ganglia/thalamus (BG/T) in TH (MD -0.31, 95%CI -0.55 to -0.07) and combined results (MD -0.37, 95% CI -0.49 to -0.25); NAA/choline in BG/T in TH (MD -0.89, 95%CI -1.43 to -0.35) and combined results (MD -0.25, 95%CI -0.42 to -0.07); and myo-inositol/choline in cerebral cortex in TH (MD -1.94, 95%CI -3.69 to -0.19) and combined results (MD -1.64, 95%CI -2.64 to -0.64). Moreover, NAA relative concentration is associated with adverse outcomes: in TH (MD -0.04, 95%CI -0.06 to -0.02) and combined results (MD -0.06, 95%CI -0.11 to -0.01) in white matter; in TH (MD -0.04, 95%CI -0.07 to -0.01) and combined results (MD -0.05, 95%CI -0.07 to -0.02) in gray matter. Conclusions: NAA may be a potential marker in outcome prediction for all HIE subjects. It seems that MDs for the ratios including NAA are larger than for its relative concentration, and therefore are more likely to be measurable in a clinical context. Larger prospective multicenter studies with a standardized protocol for both measurement protocols and analysis methods are required in future studies.

Qi-Jing-Sheng-Bai granule is an effective traditional Chinese medicine formula that has been widely used for the treatment of leukopenia post radiotherapy or chemotherapy. However, its chemical constituents were still unclear, which hindered interpreting bioactive constituents and studying integrative mechanisms. In this study, we developed a three-step strategy to characterize the chemical constituents and metabolites of Qi-Jing-Sheng-Bai by using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. As a result, a total of 143 compounds, including 56 flavonoids, 51 saponins, and 36 other compounds, of which contained six pairs of isomers, were tentatively identified and characterized via reference standards and by comparing mass spectrometry data with literature. After oral administration of 15 g/kg Qi-Jing-Sheng-Bai, a number of 42 compounds including 24 prototype compounds and 18 metabolites have been detected in the serum of rats. This work serves as the first reference for Qi-Jing-Sheng-Bai chemical components and metabolites. Moreover, it provided a rapid and valid analytical strategy for characterization of the chemical compounds and metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine formula.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to identify the clinical and pathological characteristics and the possible prognostic factors for Chinese patients with early-stage ovarian endometrioid carcinoma. METHODS: The present study reviewed the medical records of patients who received initial treatment and a postoperative pathological diagnosis of ovarian endometrioid carcinoma at our center. In all, 78 patients had stage I ovarian endometrioid carcinoma. RESULTS: In this series, the 5-year overall survival rate and 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rates of patients with stage I ovarian endometrioid carcinoma was 98.7% and 87.2%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed the factors that influence the DFS rates include menopausal status, FIGO stage, histological grade, lymphadenectomy, cytology of ascites. Multivariate analysis showed that grade 3 and lymphadenectomy were the independent prognostic factors of DFS for Stage I ovarian endometrioid carcinoma (P = 0.0259, 0.0276 respectively). However, the coexisting endometriosis, concomitant endometrial disorders, dissection of para-aortic lymph node and more courses of thermotherapy had no influence on DFS. Besides, it was found that 19.3% of patients in this series had synchronous early stage and well-to-moderate differentiated endometrial carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: Grade 3 and lymphadenectomy were indicated as the independent factors of DFS for stage I patients with ovarian endometrioid carcinoma. The endometrial changes should be considered seriously when fertility-sparing surgery was planned.
