Objectives: Acupuncture therapy has been used for cognitive impairment-related diseases, however, there are still few studies on the overall trend of acupuncture therapy on cognitive impairment based on bibliometric analysis. The purpose of this study was to explore the research trend of the impact of acupuncture on cognitive impairment in the past 15 years, analyze the research trends and hotspots, and provide new ideas and theoretical basis for future research directions. Methods: From the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), the relevant literature on the treatment of cognitive impairment with acupuncture from 2007 to 2022 was retrieved. Then, based on the CiteSpace and VOSviewer software of the Java platform, the cooperation between countries and institutions in this field, the co-citation of journals and documents, and the cooperation between authors and authors, etc. were analyzed. In addition, the co-occurrence and burst analysis of keywords are also carried out, and a visual knowledge map is drawn. Results: As of August 08, 2022, a total of 394 records related to the treatment of cognitive impairment with acupuncture were identified. The analysis results show: The number and rate of annual publications have steadily increased, with some fluctuations from year to year. The countries that contribute the most to this field are China and the USA. Among them, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Capital Medical University are tied for first place in terms of the number of published papers. Tao Jing is the most prolific author and the number one cited author. Conclusions: The number of publications on acupuncture for cognitive impairment is expected to increase rapidly in future research, suggesting a bright future for the field. Future research hotspots will focus on pain, injury, protocol, diagnosis, guidelines, etc. It is also necessary to strengthen cross-regional and cross-country cooperation among various academic groups.

The present study aimed to investigate whether a combination of folic acid (FA) and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) has a better preventive effect on maternal diabetes-induced neural tube defects (NTD) than FA alone. The experiment included five groups of pregnant mice: healthy control (HC), diabetes mellitus control (DMC), diabetes + n-3 PUFA (DMn-3), diabetes + FA (DMFA), and diabetes + FA + n-3 PUFA (DMFA + n-3). The incidence of NTD in DMFA + n-3 (1.04%) was significantly lower than that in DMFA (8.57%) and DMn-3 (7.82%). The incidence of NTD in DMFA and DMn-3 was significantly lower than that in DMC (19.41%). DMFA + n-3 had a lower apoptosis of neuroepithelial cells, a lower expression of P53 and Bax, and a higher expression of Pax3 and Bcl-2, compared with DMFA and DMn-3. Combination of FA and n-3 PUFA attenuated diabetes-induced hypermethylation of Pax3, overexpression and overactivity of Dnmt3b, abnormal expression of genes involved in one-carbon metabolism and elevation of homocysteine, and these improving effects were better than FA or n-3 PUFA alone. In conclusion, the combination of FA and n-3 PUFA has a synergistic effect on preventing maternal diabetes-induced NTD.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is one of the most popular complementary and alternative treatments for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). There are many methods of acupuncture in the treatment of KOA, and the effects are different. According to our clinical observations and researches, it is found that manual acupuncture (MA), electro-acupuncture (EA), and warm acupuncture (WA) are used more frequently in the treatment of KOA, and the curative effects are satisfactory. However, there is currently a lack of efficacy comparison of efficacy between different acupuncture treatments, as well as a lack of standardized clinical research on the acupuncture treatment of KOA. Therefore, we will carry out a high-quality clinical randomized controlled trial to research the effect laws of MA, EA, and WA on KOA. METHODS/DESIGN: A total of 200 eligible participants with KOA will be randomly assigned to group A, B, C, or D in a ratio of 1:1:1:1. Patients in group A will receive MA, while those in group B, group C, and group D will be treated with EA, WA, and sham acupuncture (SA), respectively. Patients will be treated with acupuncture once a day, 30 min per session, 5 sessions per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome is the change of Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) at week 4. The secondary outcomes include WOMAC, visual analog scale (VAS), Arthritis Quality of Life Measurement Scale Simplified Scale (AIMS2-SF), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Credibility/Expectancy Questionnaire. The evaluation will be performed at baseline and weeks 4, 8, and 12 respectively after randomization. DISCUSSION: This is a randomized controlled trial. We will observe the clinical effect of MA, EA, and WA on KOA to research the effect laws of these three acupuncture treatments on KOA and set up standardized treatment programs for acupuncture for KOA. Background: Degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS), one of the most common causes of low back pain, is defined as the displacement of a vertebral body over the lower vertebral body with degenerative changes and the absence of fracture or defect in the vertebral ring. This disease is a common and frequently occurring disease. Currently, there are many clinical treatment methods, but there is no specific method, and most of them have the characteristics of slow effect and easy recurrence. Objective: The objective of this study is to summarize and analyze the effects of treatment of degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis by Tongdu Bushen acupuncture, intradermal acupuncture, and moxibustion integrated therapy combined with core muscle training program (CMT) on the improvement of pain degree and dysfunction index, as well as the gait characteristics. Methods: 120 patients with DLS will be recruited and randomly divided into two groups using electroacupuncture combined with the CMT group as the control group. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and Japanese Orthopedic Association score (JOA) will be used for evaluation. The spatiotemporal and kinematics parameters in gait analysis, as well as the ability of lumbar muscle contraction, fatigue resistance, relaxation, and coordination of lumbar muscle in surface electromyography (sEMG), will be used as objective observation indexes to observe the effectiveness of Tongdu Bushen acupuncture, intradermal acupuncture, and moxibustion integrated therapy combined with CMT. Discussion. Tongdu Bushen acupuncture, intradermal acupuncture, and moxibustion integrated therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment for DLS. Our results will provide evidence to determine whether the integrated therapy can effectively treat DLS, as well as its advantages and safety, and lay a foundation for further research. Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD), a common neuropsychiatric comorbidity after stroke, has a negative impact on the functional recovery and quality of life of survivors. It lacks effective therapeutic drugs with good curative effects and few adverse reactions. Preliminary experiments have shown that the optimized acupuncture and moxibustion treatment (OAMT), including acupuncture, moxibustion, and auricular intradermal acupuncture, improved depressive symptoms and neurological deficits in patients with PSD. However, the evidence for its effectiveness is still insufficient. Hence, we designed this study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the OAMT in the treatment of PSD and to explore its possible mechanism from the perspective of executive functions. Methods/Design: This is a randomized controlled trial, which comprises a total of 134 patients with PSD. Participants are randomized into intervention group and control group at a 1:1 ratio. All treatments are given five times per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome is the severity of depression, which is evaluated by the Hamilton Depression Scale-17 (HAMD-17) and the Beck Depression Rating Scale (BDI). Secondary outcomes are executive abilities, which are measured by several neuropsychological tests, including the Stroop Color and Word Test (SCWT), the Trial Making Test (TMT), the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST), and the Matrix Reasoning Test (MRT). All outcomes have been evaluated at baseline and weeks 4, 8, 12, and 20. At the same time, functional MRI (fMRI) is used to measure the functional connectivity in the cognitive control network (CCN) at baseline and 4 weeks after intervention. Discussion: This study aims to provide high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of the OAMT for treating PSD. In addition, this trial is the first trial to explore if the improvement condition of depression in the OAMT group is related to the improvement of executive functions and the favorable changes in the structure. BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common chronic degenerative disorder with an increasingly prevalence among the older individuals and the leading cause of pain in the elderly. Baduanjin, one of the ancient traditional Chinese mind-body exercise routine, has been recognized to have clinical benefits for KOA. We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Baduanjin for patients with KOA through this systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Four English databases (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science), and 4 Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Wanfang Database), will be searched from establishment of the database until October 2020. The reference lists and the citation lists of studies meeting the inclusion criteria will also be searched to identify further studies for inclusion. The search languages are English and Chinese. The randomized controlled trials of Baduanjin training for patients with KOA will be included. The primary outcome will be assessed according to the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index. Meta-analysis will be conducted with the use of RevMan 5.3. RESULTS: The results of this research will be submitted to a peer-reviewed publications. CONCLUSION: This systematic review aims to present evidence for whether Baduanjin training is an effective intervention which can improve both physical condition and life quality in patients suffering KOA. BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a common digestive disease. Without active treatment, it may induce gastric cancer. Western medicine has a certain effect on chronic atrophic gastritis, but there are many adverse reactions after long-term medication, and the disease is prone to relapse after treatment, which will affect the health and life of patients. Traditional Chinese medicine has obvious advantages in the treatment of chronic stomach diseases with reliable effect. A number of clinical data have also confirmed that Banxia Xiexin decoction has significant effect in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis, but there is no evidence of evidence-based medicine. Therefore, this study aims to explore the clinical efficacy and safety of Banxia Xiexin decoction in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis by means of systematic evaluation. METHOD: Databases including PubMed, The Cochrance Library, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang were searched by computer. Besides, Baidu Scholar and Google Scholar were manually searched, and all randomized controlled trials of Banxia xiexin decoction for the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis were collected. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to July 31, 2020. After 2 reviewers independently screened the literature, extracted the data and evaluated the bias risk of the included study, RevMan5.3 software (developed by the UK's International Cochrane Collaboration) was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: In this study, the effectiveness and safety of Banxia Xiexin decoction for the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis were evaluated by the clinical efficiency, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score (traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score), quality of life score, gastrin level, epidermal growth factor, eradication rate of helicobacter pylori and incidence of adverse reactions. CONCLUSION: This study will provide reliable evidence for the clinical application of Banxia Xiexin decoction in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The private information from individuals will not be published. This systematic review also will not involve endangering participant rights. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of catgut implantation at acupoints on the expressions of γ-amino butyric acid B receptor (GABA(B)) and metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) in the brain stem of rats with spasticity after stroke. METHODS: In total, 60 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: a sham group (n = 10), a model group (n = 25) and a treatment group (n = 25). The rats in both the model group and the treatment group were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion to establish a model of focal cerebral ischemia. Rats with limb-spasm met the inclusion criteria. Only the left carotid artery was isolated in sham group rats. Three days after modeling, the treatment group was subjected to catgut implantation at Dazhui (GV 14), Guanyuan (CV 4), and Zhongwan (CV 12). Neurological deficit symptoms were assessed with the Zea-Longa neurological deficit score. The Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), and isolated muscle tone were used to evaluate spasticity before and after treatment. Immunohistochemistry was applied to determine the expression of GABA(B) and mGluR1 in the rat brain stem after treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, neural impairment symptoms had significantly improved in the treatment group when compared to the model group (P < 0.05). Both MAS and isolated muscle tone in the treatment group were significantly decreased when compared with the model group (P < 0.05), and were also lower than before treatment. GABA(B) expression was significantly higher and mGluR1 was lower in the treatment group when compared with the model group (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05, respectively). CONCLUSION: Catgut implantation at Dazhui (GV14), Guanyuan (CV 4), and Zhongwan (CV 12), can relieve limb spasticity by increasing the expression of GABA(B) and reducing the expression of mGluR1 in the brain stem of rats after stroke.
