RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to observe the effect of local mild hypothermia on regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) after acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and to evaluate its relation to clinical outcome in patients with ICH. METHODS: 36 CT proven ICH patients with Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score of 5 or more were randomly assigned to 2 group: local mild hypothermia with conventional mannitol (Group A) or conventional mannitol (Group B). SPECT study was performed at day 7 after therapy. The SPECT images were semi-quantitatively analyzed, and the radioactivity ratios of lesion to normal tissue (L/NT) were calculated. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) were used in evaluation at days 14 and 21 after therapy. RESULTS: There were significant differences in NIHSS score at days 14 and 21, and the L/NT ratios between the groups A and B (P < 0.05). Based on GCS, more patients in the group A showed favorable outcomes than patients in the group B (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the L/NT ratios significantly increased in patients with favorable outcomes compared to poor outcomes. Changes in NIHSS score at days 14 and 21 were closely negatively correlated with the L/NT ratios in the groups A and B (r= -0.58, -0.61, and -0.52, -0.75, respectively, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Local mild hypothermia could significantly increase rCBF and improve clinical outcome in ICH patients as evaluated by ^{99m}Tc-ECD SPECT study.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observed the prevention efficacy of secretory otitis media after radiation therapy by the Myrtol Standardized Enteric Coated Soft Capsules. METHOD: Sixty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who Diagnosis without secretory otitis media before radiation therapy were divided into experimental group and control group, 30 cases in each group. After the start of radiation therapy ,the experimental group patients oral the Myrtol Standardized Enteric Coated Soft Capsules, each 0.3 g, 3 times a day, 7 days a course of treatment, oral the medication three months, the patients in the control group received no treatment. 3 months and 6 months after the end of radiation therapy, whether there is a difference comparison of experimental group and the control group in symptoms, signs, pure tone audiometry and tympanogram change. RESULT: Seventeen patients (18 ears) (56.67%, 17/30) in the control group were suffering from secretory otitis media, 7 patients (7 ears) (23.33%, 7/30) in the experimental group were suffering from secretory otitis media. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.01). 17 patients (17 ears) in the control group and 7 patients (7 ears) in the experimental group were suffering from tinnitus. 20 patients(20 ears) in the control group and 9 patients (10 ears) in the experimental group have ear choking feeling. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.01). The air conduction hearing threshold of the experimental group before radiation therapy is (7.5 +/- 2.0) dB HL and the air conduction hearing threshold of the control group patients is (8.3 +/- 4.0) dB HL. The difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). 3 months after radiation therapy, the gas conductive hearing threshold of the experimental group is (25.6 +/- 3.0) dB HL, but the data in the control group is (40.7 +/- 5.0) dB HL. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma oral the the Myrtol Standardized Enteric Coated Soft Capsules before radiation therapy can effectively reduce the incidence of secretory otitis media after radiotherapy, it can prevent the occurrence of secretory otitis media.

RESUMO

The new ruthenium complex [Ru(N(3)P)(OAc)][BPh(4)] (4), in which N(3)P is the N,P mixed tetradentate ligand N,N-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl]-[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]methanamine was synthesized. The complex was found to be catalytically active for the endo cycloisomerization of alkynols. The catalytic reactions can be used to synthesize five-, six-, and seven-membered endo-cyclic enol ethers in good to excellent yields. A catalytic cycle involving a vinylidene intermediate was proposed for the catalytic reactions. Treatment of complex 4 with PhC[triple bond]CH and H(2)O gave the alkyl complex [Ru(CH(2)Ph)(CO)(N(3)P)][BPh(4)] (30), which supports the assumption that the catalytic reactions involve addition of a hydroxyl group to the C=C bond of vinylidene ligands.

RESUMO

Enterovirus 71 (EV71) can cause brain encephalitis and mortality. However, effective vaccines or chemotherapeutic agents are not yet available. We tested the hypothesis that Pueraria lobata could inhibit the cytotoxic effect of EV71 in a human foreskin fibroblast cell line by the XTT method. Our results showed that the water extract of P. lobata could inhibit cytopathy induced by EV71 when given before (p < 0.0001), simultaneously with (p < 0.0001), or after viral infection (p < 0.0001). Water extract of P. lobata was effective and its minimal concentration that inhibited 50% of the cytopathic effect (IC50) was 0.028 microg/mL. P. lobata was also safe with a selectivity index greater than 107,000. Water extract of P. lobata appeared to inhibit viral attachment (p < 0.0001) and penetration (p < 0.0001). The anti-EV71 activity of the water extract of P. lobata was not mediated by interferons. In conclusion, the water extract of P. lobata was effective in the management of the disease induced by EV71 infection.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of acupoint-embedding (AE) of collagen plus Tetramethylpyrazine and electroacupuncture (EA) on the contents of TNF-alpha and IL-6 in hippocampus tissue in rats with focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CI-R) injury. METHODS: A total of 120 SD rats were randomly divided into normal control (n=8), sham operation (n=24), model (CI-R, n=24), EA (n=24) and AE (n=24) groups, and the later 4 groups were further divided into 24 h, 72 h and 120 h subgroups (time-points) separately, with 8 cases in each. CI-R model was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and reperfusion. For animals of AE group, the medicinal thread consisting of collagen and Tetramethylpyrazine was implanted into "Dazhui" (GV14) and bilateral "Neiguan" (PC6), once daily. For rats of EA group, EA (120 cycles/min, 1 mA) was applied to GV14 and PC6 for 30 min, once daily. The contents of TNF-alpha and IL-6 in the hippocampus were detected by using radio-immunoassay after processing the tissue samples (homogenate, centrifuge). RESULTS: The contents of TNF-alpha and IL-6 in hippocampus tissue of model group at 24 h, 72 h and 120 h time-points were significantly higher than those of normal control and sham operation groups (P<0.05), while after EA and AE, the contents of TNF-alpha at the 3 time-points decreased significantly (P<0.05), and IL-6 contents at the same 3 time-points increased further and significantly (P<0.05). Comparison between EA and AE groups showed that the contents of TNF-alpha of the later group at 72 h and 120 h were significantly lower than those of EA group (P<0.05), while IL-6 contents of AE group were significantly higher than those of EA group at the same time-points (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Both EA and AE of collagen and Tetramethylpyrazine can evidently lower TNF-alpha content and significantly raise IL-6 level in hippocampus in rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and the effect of AE is significantly superior to that of EA, which may contribute to their protective effects on ischemic cerebral neurons.
