RESUMO

Petroleum-contaminated soil (PCS) requires not only efficient remediation technology but also economically viable reuse strategy of remediated soil with vast volume. This study developed a pyrite-assisted pyrolysis to convert PCS into a bifunctional material for the adsorption of heavy metal and the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation. Adsorption isotherm and kinetic model fitting by Langmuir and pseudo-second-order well clarified the adsorption capacity and behavior of carbonized soil (CS) loaded with sulfur and iron (FeS@CS) for heavy metals. The theoretic maximum adsorption capacities of Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ by Langmuir model were 415.40, 80.25, 61.55, and 30.90 mg/g, respectively. The main adsorption mechanism includes sulfide precipitation, co-precipitation and surface complexation by iron oxides, and complexation by oxygen-containing functional groups. When the dosage of FeS@CS and PMS were both 3 g/L, the removal rate of aniline reached 99.64 % in 6 h. After five cycles of reuse, the aniline degradation rate was still as high as 93.14 %. The non-free radical pathway dominated in CS/PMS and FeS@CS/PMS systems. The electron hole was the primary active species in the CS/PMS system, which promoted aniline degradation by accelerating direct electron transfer. In comparison with CS, the surface of FeS@CS contained more iron oxides, oxygen-containing functional groups, and oxygen vacancies, making 1O2 the primary active species in the FeS@CS/PMS system. This study proposed a new integrated strategy for the efficient remediation of PCS and value-added reutilization of remediated soil.

RESUMO

A simple mechanochemical (MC) method is used to treat petroleum-contaminated soil and prepare a heavy metal adsorbent in one step. XRD, Raman, FT-IR, VSM, BET, and XPS were used to characterize the adsorbent. After MC treatment, the dissolved total petroleum hydrocarbons of the adsorbent is less than 1 mg·L-1, and a porous structure and carbonization phenomenon are evident. The specific surface area and cumulative void volume increase, and the adsorption pore size decreases. On the surface of soil, the percentages of iron oxides, carbonates, CO, -C-O-H, -COOH, and π unsaturated bonds increase. The Langmuir model shows that the maximum adsorption capacity of Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ are 338.58, 51.61, 32.34, and 25.05 mg·g-1, respectively. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model fits the Pb adsorption process, indicating the domination of chemical adsorption. GC-MS shows that petroleum hydrocarbons are completely degraded. The Tessier continuous extraction result shows that heavy metals are bound to carbonate, iron manganese oxide, and organic matter. The MC treatment achieves deep cleanup and resource utilization of petroleum-contaminated soil through the formation of amorphous carbon, carbonates, and iron oxides on the surface of soil particles. The material is magnetic and can be recycled when used in wastewater treatment.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of ethanolic extract from Morus alba L. leaves (MLEE) in preserving chilled pork under retail conditions. The four treatments were 5 mg/mL sodium benzoate solution (SB), 1 mg/mL MLEE solution (high-concentration MLEE; HM), 0.5 mg/mL MLEE solution (low-concentration MLEE; LM), and 0 mg/mL MLEE solution (C). The quality characteristics, pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values, metmyoglobin, total volatile basic nitrogen, and number of microbes of MLEE-treated chilled pork stored at 4 °C for 9 days were consistent with those obtained by the SB treatment and lower than those obtained by the C treatment. Sensory analyses showed that treatment of pork with MLEE did not have a negative impact on its sensory characteristics. MLEE can extend the shelf life of chilled pork from 3 days to 6 days (9 days) in first-class (second-class) fresh meat. Results suggest that MLEE could be a candidate resource in the preservation of chilled pork.

RESUMO

To explore the flavonoids from Morus alba L. leaves (MLF), the process of extracting was optimized by a response surface methodology and the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities were evaluated in vitro. The yield of flavonoids reached 50.52 mg g-1 under the optimized extraction conditions (i.e., extraction temperature, 70.85 °C; solvent concentration, 39.30%; extraction time, 120.18 min; and liquid/solid ratio, 34.60:1). The total flavonoids were extracted in organic solvents with various polarities, including petroleum ether (MLFp), ethyl acetate (MLFe), and n-butanol (MLFb). In vitro, the four MLF samples exhibited good antioxidant activities for scavenging of 2, 2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenz-thiazoline-6-sulphonate) radical, 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical, and total reducing power. Regarding antimicrobial efficacy, the MLF samples suppressed the development of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus pumilus. The MLF samples inhibited α-amylase activity to a certain extent. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used to evaluate comprehensively the bioactivities of the MLF samples. The AHP results revealed that the bioactivity comprehensive score (78.83 µg mL-1) of MLFe was optimal among the four MLF samples. Morus alba L. leaves also exhibited non-hemolytic properties. All bioactivities suggested the potential of MLFe as a candidate resource in the food and drug industries.

RESUMO

The functionalized nanoparticles have been widely studied and reported as carriers of drug transport recently. Furthermore, many groups have focused more on developing novel and efficient treatment methods, such as photodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy, since both therapies have shown inspiring potential in the application of antitumor. The mentioned treatments exhibited the superiority of cooperative manner and showed the ability to compensate for the adverse effects caused by conventional monotherapy in proposed strategies. In view of the above descriptions, we formulated a thermosensitive drug delivery system, which achieved the enhanced delivery of cisplatin and two photosensitizers (ICG and Ce6) by dual-targeting traction. Drawing on the thin film hydration method, cisplatin and photosensitizers were encapsulated inside nanoparticles. Meanwhile, the targeting peptide cRGD and targeting molecule folate can be modified on the surface of nanoparticles to realize the active identification of tumor cells. The measurements of dynamic light scattering showed that the prepared nanoparticles had an ideal dispersibility and uniform particle size of 102.6 nm. On the basis of the results observed from confocal laser scanning microscope, the modified nanoparticles were more efficient endocytosed by MCF-7 cells as a contrast to SGC-7901 cells. Photothermal conversion-triggered drug release and photo-therapies produced a significant apoptosis rate of 85.9% on MCF-7 cells. The distinguished results made it believed that the formulated delivery system had conducted great efforts and innovations for the realization of concise collaboration and provided a promising strategy for the treatment of breast cancer.

RESUMO

A combination of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy as a promising strategy has exhibited noticeable therapeutic effect on cancer therapy. To ensure the exertion of synergistic effect on a tumor region, a multifunctional vehicle for selectively delivering therapeutic agent into tumor cells is highly desirable. Thus, folate-poly (ethylene glycol)-distearoylphosphatidylcholine (FA-PEG-DSPE), cRGD [cyclic (Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys)]-PEG-DSPE and lecithin were employed to develop dual modified nanoparticles (FA/cRGD-PNPs) encapsulating polyaniline and cisplatin by a film-ultrasonic dispersion method. The FA/cRGD-PNPs showed a uniform size of 102.7 nm, remarkable stability and monodispersity, and highly localized temperature respond. Compared to chemo or photothermal treatment alone, the combined treatment on cells in vitro significantly suppressed the survival rate of MDA-MB-231 cells (1.87%) and MGC-803 cells (2.37%) treated for 48 h. The results further indicated the induced cell apoptosis rate of MDA-MB-231 cells reached to 92.6% with treatment for 24 h. Hence, our research highlights the great potential in drug delivery and the combination of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy.

RESUMO

Polymeric biomaterials that can be smartly disassembled through the cleavage of the covalent bonds in a controllable way upon an environmental stimulus such as pH change, redox, special enzymes, temperature, or ultrasound, as well as light irradiation, but are otherwise stable under normal physiological conditions have attracted great attention in recent decades. The 2-(4-aminophenyl) benzothiazole molecule (CJM-126), as one of the benzothiazole derivatives, has exhibited a synergistic effect with cisplatin (CDDP) and restrains the bioactivities of a series of human breast cancer cell lines. In our study, novel NIR-responsive targeted binary-drug-loaded nanoparticles encapsulating indocyanine green (ICG) dye were prepared as a new co-delivery and combined therapeutic vehicle. The prepared drug-loaded polymeric nanoparticles (TNPs/CDDP-ICG) are stable under normal physiological conditions, while burst drugs release upon NIR laser irradiation in a mild acidic environment. The results further confirmed that the designed co-delivery platform showed higher cytotoxicity than the single free CDDP due to the synergistic treatment of CJM-126 and CDDP in vitro. Taken together, the work might provide a promising approach for effective site-specific antitumor therapy.
