RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on phosphatidylinositol-3-kinases(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) signaling pathway of uterus tissue in rats with primary dysmenorrhea(PDM), so as to investigate its mechanisms underlying improvement of PDM. METHODS: Thirty healthy non-pregnant female SD rats were randomly divided into blank, model and EA groups, with 10 rats in each group. The PDM model was established by subcutaneous injection of estradiol diphenhydrate combined with intraperitoneal injection of oxytocin. For rats of the EA group, EA(50 Hz, a tolerable current intensity) was applied to "Guanyuan"(CV4) and bilateral "Sanyinjiao"(SP6) for 20 min, once a day for 10 consecutive days. The number of writhing, wri-thing score, and writhing latency were observed. The uterine histopathological changes were observed by H.E. staining, and the ultrastructural changes of uterine tissue cells in each group were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The contents of prostaglandin E2(PGE2), prostaglandin F2α(PGF2α) and ratios of PGF2α/PGE2 in the serum and uterine tissue were detected by ELISA. The relative expression levels of PI3K, Akt and mTOR and their phosphorylation proteins in the uterine tissue were detected by Western blot and the ratios were calculated. RESULTS: Compared with the blank group, the number and score of writhing, latency of writhing, pathological injury score, contents of PGF2α and ratios of PGF2α/PGE2 in the serum and uterine tissue, and the levels of p-PI3K/PI3K, p-Akt/Akt and p-mTOR/mTOR in the uterine tissue were significantly increased in the model group(P<0.01, P<0.05), while contents of PGE2 in the serum and uterine tissue were reduced(P<0.05). In comparison with the model group, the number of writhing and writhing score, pathological injury score, contents of PGF2α and ratios of PGF2α/PGE2 in both the serum and uterine tissue, the levels of p-PI3K/PI3K, p-Akt/Akt and p-mTOR/mTOR were obviously decreased(P<0.05, P<0.01), whereas the writhing latency was considerably prolonged in the EA group(P<0.01), with elevated contents of PGE2 in the serum and uterine tissue(P<0.05). H.E. staining showed slight dilation of uterine glandular cavity, and severe endometrial edema with extensive cell shedding and a large number of vacuole-like degeneration, apoptosis, pyknosis or fragmentation or disappearance of the nucleus, and neutrophil infiltration in the model group, which were relatively milder in the EA group. Ultrastructural results showed irregular fibroblasts of uterine tissue cells, obvious cytoplasmic edema, reduction in cytoplasmic electron density, seriously irregular nuclei, severe edema of mitochondria with dissolved matrix, fracture and disappearance of mitochondrial crests and vacuolation, and moderate dilation of rough endoplasmic reticulum in the model group, which were milder in the EA group. CONCLUSIONS: EA can improve pain and uterine inflammatory response in PDM rats, which may be associated with its functions in reducing uterine PGF2α and down-regulating PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on the expression levels of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2, p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) in the spinal cord of rats with primary dysmenoramia (PDM), so as to explore the underlying mechanism of EA treating PDM. METHODS: Thirty female SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group and EA group, with 10 rats in each group. The PDM rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of estradiol benzoate and oxytocin into the thigh. At the same time of modeling, rats in the EA group were treated with EA (50 Hz) at "Sanyinjiao" (SP36) and "Guanyuan" (CV4) once daily, 20 min each time, for 10 consecutive days. The writhing times, writhing score and writhing latency were observed within 30 min after oxytocin injection. The uterine pathological morphology was observed by HE staining, and pathological score was calculated. Serum prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) were determined by ELISA. The protein expression levels of NMDAR, ERK1/2, p38MAPK and JNK in spinal cord were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, the writhing times and writhing score were significantly increased (P<0.05); the endometrial epithelial cells showed vacuolar degeneration, death and hyperemia, the uterine pathological score was increased (P<0.05); the content of serum PGF2α and the ratio of PGF2α/PGE2 were significantly increased (P<0.01), while the content of serum PGE2 was significantly decreased (P<0.01); the expression levels of NMDAR, ERK1/2, p38MAPK and JNK in spinal cord were significantly increased (P<0.05, P<0.01) in the model group. Compared with the model group, the writhing times and writhing score were significantly decreased (P<0.05), the writhing latency was prolonged (P<0.05); the endometrial epithelial cells still showed vacuolar degeneration, death and hyperemia, and the uterine pathological score was decreased (P<0.01); the content of serum PGF2α and the ratio of PGF2α/PGE2 were significantly decreased (P<0.01), while the content of serum PGE2 was significantly increased (P<0.01); the protein expression levels of ERK1/2 and JNK in spinal cord were significantly decreased (P<0.01) in the EA group. CONCLUSION: EA intervention at SP36 and GV4 has obvious analgesic effect on PDM rats, and its mechanisms may be related to reducing serum prostaglandin, alleviating uterine inflammation, and inhibiting the protein expressions of NMDAR, ERK1/2, p38 MAPK and JNK in spinal cord.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on NLRP3 inflammasome and its downstream protein gastermin D (GSDMD) in rats with primary dysmenorrhea (PDM), and to explore the potential mechanism of EA on the treatment of PDM. METHODS: Forty healthy female SD rats without pregnancy were randomly divided into a control group, a model group, an EA group and an ibuprofen group, 10 rats in each group. PDM model was prepared by injection of estradiol benzoate and oxytocin. Except the control group, the rats in each group were subcutaneously injected with estradiol benzoate for 10 days, and oxytocin was injected on the 11th day. The rats in the EA group were intervened with EA (dense wave, frequency of 50 Hz) at "Guanyuan" (CV 4) and "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6) at the same time of modeling, once a day, 20 min each time, for 10 consecutive days. The rats in the ibuprofen group were treated with 0.8 mL of ibuprofen by gavage (concentration of ibuprofen solution was 1.25 mg/mL) for 10 consecutive days. After modeling, the writhing reaction was observed. After intervention, the HE staining method was used to observe the histological morphology of uterus and evaluate the pathological damage score of uterus; ELISA method was used to detect the serum levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α); Western blot method was used to detect the protein expression of NLRP3, apoptosis related spot like protein (ASC), caspase-1, GSDMD, GSDMD-N and inflammatory factors (interleukin [IL]-1ß, IL-18) in uterine tissue. RESULTS: In the model group, a large number of vacuolar degeneration and death of endometrial epithelial cells, spiral arterioles congestion in lamina propria and neutrophil infiltration were observed. In the EA group, there was a small amount of vacuolar degeneration and death of endometrial epithelial cells, a small amount of spiral arterioles congestion in the lamina propria, and a small amount of neutrophils infiltration. In the ibuprofen group, there was very small number of degeneration and death of endometrial epithelial cells, and no obvious arterial congestion was found in lamina propria, and neutrophil infiltration was occasionally seen. Compared with the control group, in the model group the number of writhing was increased (P<0.01), the writhing reaction score and serum level of PGF2α and PGF2α/PGE2 value were increased (P<0.01), the level of PGE2 was decreased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, in the EA group and the ibuprofen group the number of writhing were decreased (P<0.05), the latency of writhing was prolonged (P<0.01), the writhing reaction scores and serum levels of PGF2α and PGF2α/PGE2 values were decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), the levels of PGE2 were increased (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the protein expression of NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, GSDMD, GSDMD-N, IL-1ß and IL-18 in the uterine tissues of rats was increased in the model group (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the protein expression of NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, GSDMD, GSDMD-N, IL-1ß and IL-18 in the uterine tissues of rats was decreased in the EA group and the ibuprofen group (P<0.01, P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the EA group and the ibuprofen group in the above indexes (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: EA could alleviate pain and uterine tissue injury in rats with PDM. The mechanism may be related to the inhibition of the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in rat uterine tissues, thereby inhibiting pyroptosis and its inflammatory factors release.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA) intervention in rats with primary dysmenorrhea(PDM) based on the Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)/nuclear factor(NF)-κB signaling pathway. METHODS: Forty female SD rats were randomly divided into blank control, model, EA and medication groups, with 10 rats in each group. PDM rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of estradiol benzoate combined with intraperitoneal injection of oxytocin. At the same time of model procedures, EA(50 Hz, dense wave) was applied to "Guanyuan" (CV4) and bilateral "Sanyinjiao" (SP6) of rats in the EA group, with needles retained for 20 min, for 10 consecutive days. Rats in the medication group received ibuprofen(125 mg/100 mL, 0.8 mL) by gavage for 10 consecutive days. At the 11th day, writhing behavior of rats was assessed. Uterine morphology was observed by eyes and uterine pathological changes were observed after HE staining. Content of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) in serum and uterine tissues was detected by ELISA; NF-κB p65 positive expression in nucleus was detected by immunofluorescence; protein expression levels of TLR4, NF-κB p65, p-NF-κB p65 and inflammatory factors interleukin (IL) -1ß and IL-18 were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: After modeling, uterus tissues were congested and edematous, with necrosis of luminal epithelium, severe edema and extensive shedding of endometrium, nuclear pyknosis, fragmentation and disappearance, neutrophils infiltration, and slight expansion of glandular cavity, which was milder in the EA and the medication groups. Compared with the blank control group, writhing times, scores and incubation period, HE pathological scores, PGF2α contents in serum and uterine tissues, ratio of NF-κB p65 positive expression in nucleus, TLR4, NF-κB p65, p-NF-κB p65, IL-1ß and IL-18 protein expression levels in uterine tissues of rats in the model group were all significantly increased(P<0.01), while PGE2 contents in serum and uterine tissues were significantly decreased(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, writhing times and scores, HE pathological scores, PGF2α contents in serum and uterine tissues, ratio of NF-κB p65 positive expression in nucleus, TLR4, NF-κB p65, p-NF-κB p65, IL-1ß and IL-18 protein expression levels in uterine tissues of rats in the EA and medication group were all significantly decreased(P<0.01), while writhing incubation period, PGE2 contents in serum and uterine tissues were significantly increased(P<0.05, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: EA intervention could relieve inflammatory response and pain in PDM rats, which may be related to its effect in reducing TLR4 expression, inhibiting NF-κB activation and down-regulating inflammatory factors levels of IL-1ß and IL-18.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Human enterovirus 68 (EV68) is a primary etiological agent for respiratory illnesses, while no effective drug has yet used in clinics largely because the pathogenesis of EV68 is not clear. DNA damage response (DDR) responds to cellular DNA breaks and is also involved in viral replication. Three DDR pathways includes ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), ATM and Rad3-related (ATR), and DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK). Natural products proved to be an excellent source for the discovery and isolation of novel antivirals. Among them, tanshinone IIA, resveratrol, silibinin, rutin and quercetin are reported to target DDR, therefore their roles in anti-EV68 are investigated in this study. PURPOSE: This study investigated the anti-EV68 ability of various natural compounds related to DDR. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The methods include cell counting, flow cytometry, western blot, Immunofluorescence staining, comet assays, quantitative real-time RT PCR and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) for analysis of cell number, cell cycle, protein expression, protein location, DNA damage, mRNA level and knock down target gene, respectively. RESULTS: EV68 infection induced DDR. Down-regulation or inhibition of ATM or DNA-PK lowered DDR in EV68-infected cells and mitigated viral protein expression, however, down-regulation or inhibition of ATR unexpectedly up-regulated DDR, and promoted viral protein expression. Meanwhile tanshinone IIA, resveratrol, and silibinin inhibited ATM and/or DNA-PK activation and decreased viral proliferation, while rutin and quercetin inhibited ATR activation and promoted viral production. The role of them in ATM, DNA-PK and ATR activation was consistent with previous reports. CONCLUSION: Tanshinone IIA, resveratrol and silibinin inhibited EV68 proliferation through inhibiting ATM and/or DNA-PK activation, and they were effective anti-EV68 candidates.

RESUMO

The main clinical manifestations of pleural effusion are exertional dyspnea, predominantly dry cough, and pleuritic chest pain. To treat pleural effusion appropriately, it is important to determine its etiology; which however, remains unclear in nearly 20% of cases.A 73-year-old man with a history of invasive pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), had been experiencing chest congestion and dyspnea with undiagnosed pleural effusion for six years. After a series of clinical examination and laboratory tests, there was still no clear diagnosis. Despite administering diuretics and intermittent draining, the patient's condition aggravated progressively. He sought further treatment at Dongzhimen Hospital Respiratory Outpatient Clinic. The patient was treated with Zanthoxylum and Trichosanthes Decoction (Jiao Mu Gua Lou Tang). After one and a half years, his symptoms greatly improved and ultrasound revealed that the pleural effusion had apparently absorbed. It is suggested that TCM herbal formulas can play a critical role in preventing the progression of complicated, undiagnosed pleural effusion, especially in cases of poor response to conventional therapy and thoracentesis. Additional studies on the functions and mechanisms of the medicinals are warranted.

RESUMO

The present study was designed to investigate the antithrombotic effects and underlying mechanisms of the effective components group (ECG) of Xiaoshuantongluo recipe (XECG) and to further verify the rationality and feasibility of ECG-guided methodology in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research. The arterial thrombosis model induced by ferric chloride (FeCl3) oxidation and the venous thrombosis model induced by inferior vena cava ligation were established to evaluate the antithrombotic potential of XECG. Our results indicated that XECG significantly prolonged the time to occlusion, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and prothrombin time (PT), and markedly inhibited adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation in the 20% FeCl3-induced arterial thrombosis model. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was significantly increased and the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) were dramatically decreased in the plasma of arterial thrombosis rats after XECG treatment for 12 days. Furthermore, XECG markedly reduced the weight of thrombus formed by inferior vena cava ligation. Additionally, XECG exhibited 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity and protective effect on mitochondrial lipid peroxidation. In summary, XECG played an important role in the prevention of thrombosis through interacting with multiple targets, including inhibition of platelet aggregation and coagulation and repression of oxidative stress. The ECG-guided methodology was validated as a feasible tool in TCM research.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To discuss the impacts of moxibustion for regulating spleen and stomach function on the survival quality of the patients of end stage renal disease (ESRD) with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). METHODS: One hundred and nine cases of uremia with MHD from 3 hemodialysis centers were randomized into an observation group (58 cases) and a control group (51 cases). The regular hemodialysis and conventional medication were used in the two groups. In the observation group, on the basis of the common treatment, moxibustion was applied to Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), 2-3 times a day, the treatment of 4 weeks made one session. Totally, 3 sessions were required and the follow-up lasted for 3 months. KDQOL-SF (kidney disease quality of life short form,KDQOL-SFTM 1. 3) was adopted for the questionnaire investigation on survival quality before treatment, after treatment and at the end of follow-up separately in the two groups. RESULTS: After treatment, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning (83.62+/-13.27 vs 79.32+/- 22. 17), general health (58. 88+/- 20.24 vs 48.82+/-20.89) and vitality (77.07+/-15.56 vs 70. 59+/-22.61) in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (all P<0. 05). In comparison before and after treatment in the same group, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning, general health, vitality and symptoms/problems were all improved in the observation group (all P<0. 05). At the end of follow-up, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning, general health, mental health, social functioning, vitality, effects of kidney disease and cognitive function were higher in the observation group as compared with those in the control group (all P<0. 05). In comparison of the results at the end of follow-up with those before treatment, the survival quality scores in terms of vitality, symptoms/problems and cognitive function in the observation group were improved (all P< 0. 05). The differences were not significant in all of the 19 fields of survival quality evaluation before and after treatment, and after follow-up in the control group (all P>0. 05). CONCLUSION: Moxibustion for regulating spleen and stomach function improves the survival quality of the patients with hemodialysis in terms of physical functioning, general health and vitality, which benefits the psychological condition of the patients, resulting in the improvements of the survival quality in the fields of mental health, social functioning, effects of kidney disease and cognitive function.

RESUMO

Effects of the effective components group of Xiaoshuantongluo formula (XECG) on rat acute blood stasis model were studied under the guidance of the concept of effective components group. Rat acute blood stasis model was induced by subcutaneous injection of epinephrine combined with ice water bath. Hemorheology indices such as whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation index and platelet aggregation rate; coagulation parameters including PT, APTT, TT and FIB; 6-keto-PGF1alpha, TXB2 and D-dimer levels were determined to evaluate the effects of XECG. The results showed that XECG significantly reduced ADP-induced platelet aggregation, but showed little influence on the whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity and erythrocyte aggregation rate. XECG extended PT and TT slightly, but had no effects on APTT and FIB content. D-dimer levels significantly decreased after administration of XECG with a little decrease of TXB2, but the content of 6-keto-PGF1alpha did not change significantly. The results suggest that the role of XECG of anti-aggregation is more prominent.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effective therapy for maintenance hemodialysis patients in dificiency syndrome in end-stage renal disease. METHODS: Ninety-seven cases were divided into an observation group (51 cases) and a control group (46 cases) randomly, and routine western medicine was used in both of them. On this base, moxibustion was used in Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) in paper-tube-moxibustion equipment in the observation group. Evaluate the therapeutic effect on symptoms by comparing the symptom scores in two groups before and after treatment. RESULTS: All the symptom scores in the observation group were improved after treatment, and the differences were significant (all P < 0.05). Among all symptoms, the most improved ones included lassitude and fatigue, short breath and aversion to talk, poor appetite, soreness and softness of waist and knees, aversion to cold, cold extremities and so on. In the aspect of therapeutic effect on symptoms, the total effective rate in observation group (64.7%, 33/51) was higher than that in control group (23.9%, 11/46), and the difference was significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Moxibustion can improve the clinical symptoms of maintenance hemodialysis patients in end-stage renal disease, and can generate some therapeutic effect to the dificiency syndrome of this disease.

RESUMO

We investigated the hypothesis that hippocampal neurogenesis related to Notch1 signaling could be a valid index for a combined citalopram and WAY100635 pharmacotherapy for the treatment of depression arising after stroke. Adult rats were exposed to a chronic mild stress paradigm after ischemic surgery. Behavioral tests included the open-field test and a sucrose consumption test. Proliferating cells in the hippocampus ipsilateral to ischemia and their fate were monitored by bromodeoxyuridine labeling and confocal laser scanning microscopy for up to 28 days (day 28) after ischemia. Expression of the Notch1 signaling cascade, including its ligand and downstream target genes, was also examined. WAY100635 shortened the onset of citalopram action to less than the day 21 required with citalopram alone and also proved more effective. The activity of the Notch1 signaling pathway in the hippocampus fluctuated in its function in proliferation (day 21) and differentiation (day 28) of newly formed cells in animals receiving the combination treatment. This indicated that augmentation of citalopram by cotreatment with a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine 1A antagonist would be an efficacious strategy for poststroke depression. The observed effects are most likely because of enhanced poststroke neurogenesis mediated by the Notch1 signaling cascade.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To probe the effect of moxihustion on the quality of life in the end-stage renal failure patients in hemodialysis. METHODS: Seventy-one hemodialysis patients were randomly divided into 2 groups, and the quality of life of all the patients was evaluated with the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SF). The Control group were treated with routine comprehensive therapy (including hemodialysis and medication), and the observation group with the routine comprehensive therapy and moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36), Guanyuan (CV 4), Sanyinjiao (SP 6). Changes of the quality of life in the patients before and after hemodialysis were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: After treatment there were significant differences between the two groups in DSF, RE and GH (P<0.05), and 7 fields including RE, BP, QSI and others significantly improved in the both groups (P<0.05). Additionally, the 4 fields including RP, EB, VT and WS significantly improved in the observation group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Moxibustion can improve physical strength and mood in the quality of life of the hemodialysis patients; to evaluate the quality of life of hemodialysis patients should consider effects of society, climate and geographical condition and other factors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Egb761, an extract of ginkgo biloba , and dipyridamole on inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in rabbits after myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. METHODS: After being established into ischemia-reperfusion injury model, 35 rabbits were divided randomly into 5 groups: Group A (the sham group), Group B (the model group), Group C (treated with dipyridamole 0.8 mg/kg), Group D (treated with Egb761, 40 mg/kg), and Group E (treated with Egb761 40 mg/kg combined with dipyridamole 0.8 mg/kg), all the medications were administered by intravenous injection 30 min after reperfusion. After administration, myocardial iNOS mRNA expression was detected by RT-PCR and western blot. RESULTS: Myocardial iNOS mRNA transcriptive expression in the 5 groups were A 0, B 157.11 +/- 17.73, C 202.6 +/- 21.84, D 356.13 +/- 24.18 and E 562.34 +/- 35.19 respectively, showing significant difference between the treated groups and group B (P <0.01). The translative expression of myocardial iNOS in the 5 groups were A 34.24 +/- 15.78, B 75.70 +/- 13.71, C 116.89 +/- 22.57, D 143.75 +/- 16.05 and E 195.09 +/- 22.25 respectively, showing significant difference between the treated groups and group B as well (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Both Egb761 and dipyridamole could increase myocardial iNOS expression in transcriptive and translative levels in rabbits after myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, and the combined treatment of them shows a more significant effect.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) in the treatment of cholestasis after total parenteral nutrition (TPN). METHODS: Thirty SD rats were randomly divided into control group, hypercalorie group, hypercalorie+SAMe group, sepsis group and sepsis+SAMe group to compare their states of cholestasis. Sixteen patients received SAMe because of cholestasis after prolonged TPN, and the therapeutic efficacy was observed. RESULTS: Bile flow was obviously decreased and the serum levels of total bile acid and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-G T) were markedly increased in the hypercalorie and sepsis groups. Meanwhile, hepatocyte fatty degeneration, dilatation of cholangioles, and bile sludge could be seen microscopically. SAMe administration in the hypercalorie+SAMe and sepsis+ SAMe groups could increase the bile flow, decrease the serum levels of total bile acid and gamma-G T, reduce the pathological damage to the liver, and clear the bile sludge in the cholangioles. Cholestasis and abnormal liver function were the main manifestations of the 16 patients before SAMe administration. After SAMe treatment for 3 weeks, serum levels of total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase (AKP), gamma-G T, alanine amino transferase (ALT), and aspartate amino transferase (AST) were obviously decreased, and normalized in the 4th week. CONCLUSION: SAMe could prevent and treat cholestasis without discontinuation of TPN.
