RESUMO

Background: The mortality and disability of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are highly linked to the incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events. Numerous clinical biochemical indicators of renal function often only increase in advanced stages of CKD, driving an urgent need for reliable indicators of atherosclerosis in early CKD. Ultrafast pulse wave velocity (ufPWV) can evaluate the stiffness of the straight carotid in vivo and quantitatively reflect the degree of early atherosclerosis. However, the use of ufPWV in CKD has not yet been reported. In this study, we aimed to explore the association between carotid stiffness, quantified using ufPWV, and renal function in CKD patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled a total of 582 participants between March 2017 and May 2022 in the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Among those, 205 individuals without a history of CKD and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥90 mL/min/1.73 m2 were included as controls. According to the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (K/DOQI) expert group of the American Kidney Foundation staging for CKD, 44 stages 1 and 2 CKD patients were included in the early CKD group, whereas 49 stages 3, 4, and 5 CKD patients were included in the advanced CKD group. Clinical and serum parameters, ultrasonic characteristics including carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), and pulse wave velocity at the beginning of systole (PWV-BS) and pulse wave velocity at the end of systole (PWV-ES) of systole were analyzed. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and least significant difference (LSD) tests were performed to compare cIMT, PWV-BS, and PWV-ES among subgroups in pairs. Pearson's correlation analysis, scatter plots, and subgroups correlation analysis were used to determine the relationships among ultrasound characteristics (cIMT, PWV-BS, PWV-ES), and major cardiovascular risk factors. Results: PWV-BS and PWV-ES for the early and advanced CKD groups were significantly higher than those for controls (all P<0.05). PWV-ES had the greatest correlation with age (r=0.474, P<0.001). PWV-ES had the greatest increase with age in the early CKD group (r=0.698, P<0.001). Conclusions: ufPWV can be used for the quantitative evaluation of carotid stiffness in CKD patients. PWV-ES may be more advantageous in the assessment of carotid atherosclerosis in early CKD patients.

RESUMO

Elsinoë annonae is a fungal pathogen that causes fruit scab disease in the edible-oil (tea oil) plant (Camellia oleifera Abel). The absence of genome resources for this fungus hampers functional genetic studies of the pathogenesis mechanism of E. annonae. This study reports the genome assembly of E. annonae strain SM-YC-2 collected from tea oil tree fruit with scab disease in Fujian Province, China. Combining 16.44 Gb of PacBio Sequel II long reads and 5.13 Gb of Illumina NovaSeq reads, we generated a 25.93-Mb (99.19% of expected genome size) high-quality genome assembly with 52.66% GC content, 5.05% repeats, and over 98% Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs completeness for E. annonae strain SM-YC-2. These high-quality genome assembly resources will facilitate functional genomic characterization studies, enhance insights into the pathogenicity mechanism of E. annonae, and support the development of molecular-based control strategies.

RESUMO

Objective: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history in the treatment of Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). A large number of animal experiments focused on the TCM treatment of IgAN are conducted every year. The evidence for these preclinical studies is not clear. This study summarized and evaluated the results of animal experiments on TCM treatment for IgAN. Methods: We systematically searched animal studies from 6 databases from inception to August 30, 2022. We included Chinese studies from the key magazine of China technology. The quality of the included studies was evaluated with the SYRCLE animal experimental bias risk assessment tool and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Results: Out of 832 records identified in the initial search, 30 studies were selected. The results indicated that, compared with the control group, the TCM treatment group improved 24 h urine protein (24 h-UP) level (standardized mean difference (SMD) 3.57, 95% confidence interval (CI) 4.48 to 2.66, P < 0.001), urine red blood cell (U-RBC) (SMD 13.66, 95% CI 17.99 to 9.32, P < 0.001), serum creatinine (Scr) (mean difference (MD) 10.89, 95% CI 17.00 to 4.77, P < 0.001), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) (MD 2.44, 95% CI 3.42 to 1.47, P < 0.001), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) (MD 171.28 to 95% CI 323.68 to 18.88, P=0.03), transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß) (SMD 4.02, 95% CI 7.26 to 0.77, P=0.02), matrix metalloproteinase-9/tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1(MMP-9/TIMP-1) (MD 0.03, 95% CI 0.00 to 0.06, P=0.02), nephrin mRNA (SMD 3.39, 95% CI 2.59 to 4.18, P < 0.001). However, there is no difference in albumin level (MD 1.10, 95% CI 0.06 to 2.26, P=0.06) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) (MD 170.77, 95% CI 365.3 to 23.75, P=0.09). Conclusions: TCM can improve 24 h-UP, U-RBC, Scr, BUN, MMP-9/TIMP-1, TNF-α, TGF-ß, and nephrin mRNA of IgAN animal models. Moreover, there is a need for rigorous reporting of preclinical research methodology, which is essential to support the quality of preclinical research. Registration. This review was registered with a systematic review record CRD42020171404 in the PROSPERO database.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We assessed the associations of iron supplementation and deworming separately or combined with improved early childhood development (ECD) status. METHODS: Cross-sectional data were analyzed for 29,729 children aged 36-59 months surveyed using the Demographic and Health Surveys in ten low- and middle-income countries, where iron supplementation and deworming are recommended by the World Health Organization. In each country, we estimated linear regression models for the effects of iron supplementation and deworming individually or combined on the Early Childhood Development Index (ECDI) z score, and whether this association differed between various ECD domains and the sex and residence of the child. Estimates were pooled using random-effects meta-analyses. RESULTS: Compared with receiving neither of the two interventions, iron supplementation plus deworming was associated with an increased ECDI z score (ß = 0.13, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.03-0.22, p = 0.009), particularly in rural residences. However, iron supplementation and deworming, individually, were not associated with the ECDI z score. Iron supplementation plus deworming was associated with higher odds of on-track development in literacy-numeracy (OR = 1.57, 95% CI 1.24-2.01, p < 0.001) and learning domains (OR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.09-1.48, p = 0.003), but not with development in the social-emotional and physical domains. CONCLUSION: Iron supplementation plus deworming, particularly for populations who are more susceptible to iron deficiency and intestinal worm infections, could be an important intervention for improving ECD. These findings may inform the argument for the necessity of implementing iron supplementation and deworming for preschool-age children.

RESUMO

The "big six" countries (Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand) in the World Health Organization South-East Asia Region (WHO SEAR) are currently facing severe challenges in measles elimination and consequent childhood mortality reduction, with inadequacies and inequalities in the coverage of the measles-containing-vaccine first-dose (MCV1) being major obstacles. However, these issues of inequality in MCV1 coverage have not yet been systematically examined. We used data from the latest Demographic and Health Surveys and Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys. To provide a comprehensive picture of existing MCV1 coverage gaps, data were disaggregated by geographic location, as well as by socioeconomic and nutritional dimensions. National MCV1 coverage ranged from 77% in Myanmar to 92% in Thailand. Only nine of the 104 sub-national districts had achieved the 95% MCV1 coverage goal as set by the WHO. Geographic inequalities were more pronounced in countries with lower coverage levels. Areas in clusters with poor MCV1 coverage performances as well as disadvantaged socioeconomic profiles require increased attention. Inequalities were evident in all countries, except Thailand, and were more pronounced in the sectors of wealth, education, antenatal care (ANC) status, and vitamin A supplementation (VAS) when compared against the areas of gender and urban/rural residence. Wealth-related inequality in Bangladesh, education-related inequality in Indonesia, ANC-related inequalities in Myanmar and Nepal, and VAS-related inequalities in Indonesia and Myanmar were all noteworthy. Equity-oriented changes in policies focusing on health promotion and integrated interventions among disadvantaged populations need to be implemented in order to increase MCV1 coverage and reduce childhood mortality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the therapeutic effect of Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture, conventional acupuncture and oral estazolam tablet on refractory insomnia. METHODS: A total of 180 patients with refractory insomnia were randomized into a Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture group, a conventional acupuncture group and a medication group, 60 cases in each group. In the Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture group, Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV 20), Waiguan (TE 5), Neiguan (PC 6), Weishu (BL 21), Zhongwan (CV 12) and Taixi (KI 3); in the conventional acupuncture group, conventional acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV 20), Shenmen (HT 7), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Zhaohai (KI 6), Shenmai (BL 62) and Anmian (Extra). Supplementary acupoints were added according to different patterns in the two acupuncture groups, and the treatment was given once a day, 7 times as one course and 4 courses were required. In the medication groups, estazolam was taken orally 1 h before sleep, 1 mg each time, once a day for 4 weeks. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score was observed before and after treatment and the therapeutic effect was evaluated in the 3 groups. RESULTS: The total effective rates in the Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture group and the conventional acupuncture group were 90.0% (54/60) and 83.3% (50/60), which were superior to 30.0% (18/60) in the medication group (both P<0.05). Compared before treatment, the PSQI scores were significantly reduced in the two acupuncture groups (all P<0.05), the sleep efficiency and the total score of PSQI were reduced in the medication group (both P<0.05). After treatment, the changes of sleep latency, sleep efficiency, sleep disorder, daytime function and total score of PSQI in the Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture group were significantly larger than those in the conventional acupuncture group (all P<0.05). The changes of PSQI scores in the Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture group were significantly larger than the medication group (all P<0.05). The changes of sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep time, sleep disorder, daytime function and total score of PSQI in the conventional acupuncture group were significantly larger than the medication group (all P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The therapeutic effect of Yinyang Ruyin acupuncture on refractory insomnia is superior to estazolam and conventional acupuncture.

RESUMO

Professor HE Tian-you's experience of acupuncture and moxibustion for postpartum wind is introduced. With more than 40 years of experience, professor HE has developed a systematic theoretical basis and technical operation. He points out that postpartum wind, caused by weakened body resistance after delivery, is characterized by intermingled deficiency and excess; the treatment focuses on dispelling wind, and the wind-related acupoints are essential; nourishing blood is important for dispelling wind. He emphasizes that if the cold in uterus would hinder the dispelling of wind and dampness. He has highly valued the manipulation, advocating the treatment of "treating three spirits", especially the spirits after the treatment of acupuncture; he also values the physical and mental health of the puerpera, and runs this principle through the treatment. With the He's herbal long-snake moxibustion, the dual therapeutic effect of medicine and moxibustion can be brought into play, and the therapeutic effect can be enhanced.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of the intervention with fire needling therapy on the uterine microenvironment at the specific time points of menstrual cycle and evaluate the effects on the assisted reproduction. METHODS: Sixty-eight patients of in vitro fertilization and embryo transplantation (IVF-ET) were randomized into an observation group (35 cases) and a control group (33 cases). The patients in the two groups all received post-IVF-ET corpus luteum support of the microstimulation scheme in the Clinical Reproduction Center of Jiangsu People's Hospital. In the control group, the regular sequential therapy of acupuncture was used. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment as the control group, the intervention of fire needling therapy was applied after ovulation (the 1st time point, on the 1st day after ovulation) and at the end of premenstrual stage (the 2nd time point, 3 days before the menstruation). At the 1st time point, Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (GV 4) and Yaoyangguan (GV 3) were selected and at the 2nd time point, Shenshu (BL 23) and Ciliao (BL 32) were selected. The acupoints were stimulated from up to down and from the left to the right. The changes in TCM syndrome during the preparation, the endometrial thickness and types on the day of transplantation, the biochemical pregnant rate after transplantation and clinical pregnant rate were observed and compared in the patients of the two groups. RESULTS: After treatment, TCM syndrome scores were all reduced in the two groups (both P<0.05). In the observation group, the biochemical pregnant rate and clinical pregnant rate were slightly higher than those in the control group, without significant difference in comparison (both P>0.05). In the observation group, the endo-metrial thickness on the day of transplantation was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the differences in TCM syndrome score and endometrial type were not significant statistically between the two groups (all P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The intervention of fire needling therapy at the specific time points of menstrual cycle relieves menstrual symptoms and increases endometrial thickness so as to assist embryo implantation in the patients of infertility.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Stress is considered an independent factor causing and aggravating gastrointestinal symptoms, including visceral pain. The aim of this study was to investigate effects and mechanisms of electroacupuncture (EA) on stress-induced gastric hypersensitivity in rats treated with neonatal iodoacetamide mimicking human functional dyspepsia (FD). METHODS: Neonatal rats were treated with gavage of 0.2 mL of 0.1% iodoacetamide in 2% sucrose daily for six days starting on tenth day after birth. The control group was given 0.2 mL of 2% sucrose. When the rats were eight weeks old, acute restraint stress was performed on them for 90 min. EA at ST36 (ZuSanLi) was performed during the acute stress or 30 min after the stress. Adrenoceptor blocking drugs (propranolol and phentolamine) were injected intraperitoneally 30 min before acute restraint stress to explore possible sympathetic mechanisms. Visceral-motor responses to gastric distention were assessed by electromyogram (EMG). RESULTS: 1) Stress-induced gastric hypersensitivity was significantly more severe in the FD rats, compared to the control rats. It was blocked by the adrenoceptor antagonists. 2) EA inhibited stress-induced gastric hypersensitivity; the preventive effect of EA (given during stress) was more remarkable than the curative effect (given after stress). Stress resulted in a higher sympathovagal ratio and this was suppressed by EA. CONCLUSIONS: Rats treated with neonatal iodoacetamide mimicking FD are more vulnerable to stress. Stress-induced gastric hypersensitivity can be prevented or suppressed by EA at ST36 via the restoration of sympathovagal balance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common functional gastrointestinal disease, and abdominal pain is one of the main symptoms. The aim of this study was to explore the effects and mechanisms of auricular electro-acupuncture (AEA) on gastric hypersensitivity in a rodent model of FD. METHODS: Ten-day-old pups were gavaged with 0.2 ml of 0.1% iodoacetamide daily for 6 days. AEA at the "stomach" point with different parameters or sham-EA was performed on 8-week-old animals. Gastric sensitivity to gastric distention was measured under different conditions. Autonomic functions were assessed from the spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) derived from the electrocardiogram. Naloxone was injected intraperitoneally before AEA to explore the opioid mechanism. Gastric emptying was measured at the end of the study. RESULTS: 1) Gastric sensitivity to gastric distention was higher in the FD rats. AEA with parameters of 0.1s on, 0.4s off, 100Hz, 0.3ms and 0.4-0.5mA, but not other parameters or sham-EA, decreased gastric hypersensitivity in the FD rats. Naloxone did not block the effect of AEA. 2) Lower vagal activity and higher sympathovagal ratio were noted in the FD rats, compared with the controls. AEA increased vagal activity and improved sympathovagal imbalance. CONCLUSIONS: AEA ameliorates gastric hypersensitivity in FD rats and this effect may be attributed to the improvement of sympathovagal balance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy" on ovarian function and pregnancy results of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) in patients with decline in ovarian reserve (DOR). METHODS: A total of 63 patients of DOR who received treatment of IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were randomly divided into an observation group (30 cases) and a control group (33 cases). The patients in the observation group were treated with "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy". The syndrome differentiation and treatment were given based on different phases of menstruation. Shiqizhui (EX-B 8) and Mingmen (GV 4) were selected during menstrual phase, Shenshu (BL 23), Geshu (BL 17), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3) were selected after menstruation, Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zigong (EX-CA 1), Zusanli (ST 36) were selected during ovulatory period, Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Taichong (LR 3) were selected before menstruation. The acupuncture was given twice a week until second menstrual cycle of oocyte retrieval. The total times of acupuncture was (15 ± 2). After acupuncture, patients were treated with IVF-ET. The patients in the control group were treated with IVF-ET but no acupuncture. The indices of ovarian reserve function, including basic follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), antral follicle count (AFC), number of retrieved oocytes, number of fertilization and number of high quality embryo, were compared and analyzed before and after acupuncture in the observation group. The differences of outcomes of IVF-ET, including the cycle cancellation rate, implantation rate, the clinical pregnancy rate, were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared before acupuncture, the E2, AFC, number of retrieved oocytes, number of high quality embrgo and number of fertilization were all increased after acupuncture in the observation group (all P< 0. 05). Compared with the control group, levels of the E2, the number of retrieved oocytes, number of fertilization and number of high quality embryo were all increased in the observation group (all P < 0.05). Also, the implantation rate, the clinical pregnancy rate were improved (both P < 0.01) and cycle cancellation rate was reduced (P< 0.01). CONCLUSION: The "menstrual cycle-based acupuncture therapy" can effectively improve the ovarian reserve function in DOR patients, leading to an improved clinical pregnancy rate of IVF-ET.

RESUMO

Meridian syndromes are the required basic knowledge for mastering Science of Meridians, Collaterals and Acupoints but have not brought the adequate attention on the teaching program. The writers discovered' that the content of this section occupied a decisive role for developing the students' clinical thinking ability and, stimulating their interests to learn classical TCM theories. It's necessary to enhance the importance on meridian syndromes during teaching program. The teaching program was discussed in three aspects, named workshop pattern, competitive pattern and multimedia pattern. This teaching method may improve students' interests in the study on classical TCM theories, deepen the understanding on knowledge and motivate students' learning autonomy so that the teaching quality can be improved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of action of auricular electroacupuncture (AEA) on visceral pain induced by colorectal distension (CRD). METHODS: Twenty-nine female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: control; untreated CRD; CRD+AEA; and CRD+sham electroacupuncture (SEA). An electromyogram (EMG) was recorded for 120 min in the conscious state. After a 30 min baseline recording, CRD was performed in untreated CRD, AEA and SEA groups and lasted for 90 min. AEA and SEA were started at 30 min and lasted for 30 min. The EMG was recorded and analysed to evaluate the severity of visceral pain, indicated by the magnitude of the vasomotor response (VMR). mRNA expression of the 5-hydroxytryptamine 1a (5-HT1a) receptor was measured separately in the colon and raphe nuclei using real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. RESULTS: No differences were seen in the baseline EMG among the four groups (p>0.05). During pre-stimulation, VMR magnitude in the CRD, AEA and SEA groups increased compared with that in the control group (p<0.05). During stimulation, the VMR magnitude was significantly decreased in AEA but not SEA groups relative to the (untreated) CRD group. Similarly, mRNA expression of the 5-HT1a receptor in both the colon and raphe nuclei was lower in AEA but not SEA groups compared with the CRD group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: AEA can ameliorate CRD-induced visceral pain in rats, and increase mRNA expression of the 5-HT1a receptor peripherally (in the colon) and centrally (in the raphe nuclei), suggesting a serotonergic mechanism of action.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Acupoint application of cold asthma recipe (CAR) was a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) method, widely used as an alternative medicine for clinical prevention of the common winter diseases of asthma and bronchitis. Tetrahydropalmatine (THP) was a main active ingredient of CAR extract. The aim of this study is to compare plasma pharmacokinetics and lung distribution of THP between Feishu (FS) acupoint (BL 13) and Non-Feishu (NFS) acupoint application of CAR extract by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The extract of CAR was topically administrated in FS and NFS acupoint of rats for plasma pharmacokinetics, and topically administrated in FS and NFS acupoint of mice for lung distribution. The plasma and lung homogenates were pretreated by protein precipitation with acetonitrile. Chromatographic separation was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column with a mobile phase consisted of 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid in water. The detection was accomplished by multiple-reaction monitoring (MRM) scanning in the positive electrospray ionization (ESI(+)) mode. All pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated by non-compartmental analysis. RESULTS: A sensitive, accurate and precise UPLC-MS/MS method was successfully established for determination of THP in 100 µL plasma and lung homogenate. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) of THP was 0.05 ng/mL and 0.072 ng/mL, respectively. The pharmacokinetic results manifested that THP was absorbed and eliminated slowly in plasma. Additionally, it was found that there was significantly higher amount of THP absorbed into blood and lung after FS acupoint application compared to NFS acupoint application. CONCLUSIONS: Both of the rat plasma pharmacokinetics and mice lung distribution of THP could support that FS acupoint application of CAR extract has greater advantages of absorption into the blood circulation and distribution in target tissue over NFS acupoint application. The results might be helpful in providing a rational explanation for why the TCM chose the acupoint application and elucidating the underlying mechanism of this treatment.

RESUMO

White mustard (Sinapis alba L.), a traditional Chinese medicine, is widely used in China for clinical prevention and treatment of the common winter diseases of asthma and bronchitis by percutaneous administration in the summer. The present study is to investigate the skin penetration behavior of white mustard extract to elucidate the possible mechanism underlying its immune regulation activity. The principle active compound of the extract, sinapine thiocyanate (ST), was used as a marker. The skin penetration of ST in white mustard extract was examined in vitro and in vivo. In vitro study on excised guinea pig hairless skin using Franz diffusion cell revealed ST can permeate through the skin and also accumulate in the skin. In vivo study was carried out on the guinea pig hairless skin for 24 h, and then skin was excised for frozen section, ST from the sections were extracted to quantify the amount of drug in different skin layers. The detailed distribution of ST showed that it accumulated in the epidermis, especially in the stratum corneum. After treatment with white mustard extract for 24h, the skin was stained with ATPase, and the morphometric parameters of epidermal LCs were compared to the untreated control through image-analysis system. A statistically significant reduction in LC density and increase in shape factor were observed. Cytokines related to LCs migration including interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) were also measured after white mustard extract treated at different time points. Compared to the untreated group, white mustard extract significantly enhanced the release of IL-1ß and TNFα. The morphometric changes of LCs and the local cytokine release after topical white mustard treatment may explain the activity of the white mustard extract against asthma and bronchitis.

RESUMO

This report concerns a case that shows the apparent successful use of acupuncture and moxibustion in treating hypersexuality. The patient was a 60-year-old Chinese woman with a history of uraemia for 4 years and hypersexuality for 7 months, the latter being a rare condition. The presenting symptoms were persistent sexual desires and fantasies, in addition to being irritated when her continuous sexual urges could not be satisfied. In order to control her sexual desire the patient had tried almost all viable therapeutic methods, including use of sedatives, but the symptoms could not be mitigated any further even after consulting eight different hospital departments. However, after 10 days of acupuncture and moxibustion, all her symptoms related to the problem were resolved. A year later, she presented with a slight relapse with similar symptoms and was again treated with acupuncture and moxibustion, with subsequent resolution of symptoms. Over the following 2 years, such symptoms have not recurred. Based on the findings from this case, we conclude that use of acupuncture and moxibustion may be an effective treatment for hypersexuality in clinical practice.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Vagus nerve stimulation is capable of regulating autonomic nerve function. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the effect of auricular acupuncture (AA) is mediated by the vagus. This study was designed to investigate the effect of AA on gastrointestinal (GI) motility and the relationship of this effect with the vagus nerve. METHODS: 50 rats were divided into five groups for observation of the effects of different types of acupuncture and influencing factors: control, AA, somatic acupuncture (SA), atropine and atropine+AA. The acupuncture points used for AA were ST (Stomach) and SI (Small intestine), while the acupuncture point used for SA was ST36. Electroacupuncture was performed for 15 min. A model of reduced GI motility was established using ethanol, and GI transit rate was used to measure GI motility. Heart rate variability (HRV) and the effect of atropine administration were investigated to study the relationship between AA and vagal activity. RESULTS: The GI transit rate increased in both the AA and SA groups compared with control, and no significant difference was found between their effects. In addition, after atropine administration, AA was found to be ineffective in influencing the GI transit rate. In the HRV analysis, no significant differences were found in the absolute low frequency normalised units, high frequency normalised units or the low frequency/high frequency component ratio in the AA or SA groups compared with control. After administration of atropine AA still had no effect on HRV. CONCLUSIONS: The function of AA in improving GI motility is similar to that of SA, and this effect can be blocked by the presence of atropine, indicating that this effect is regulated by the vagus. However, HRV did not reflect the acupuncture-induced changes in vagal nerve function.

RESUMO

The present paper is armed at approach to a set of teaching method about the needling skill of filiform needle, so as to increase teaching quality. After review and analysis on present situation of teaching methods about the needling skill of filiform needle, it is raised that traditional teaching methods are unable to objectively and comprehensively reflect characteristics and requirement of manipulation, so try to adopt acupuncture manipulation detection instrument, on the basis of traditional teaching methods about the needling skill of filiform needle. And the parameters and figures of manipulation examine of real-time collection in 131 students and information of 120 copies of questionnaire are analyzed and summarized. It is indicated that combined teaching method of traditional model and the manipulation instrument is more reasonable, and basic manipulation training most he strengthened in manipulation skill training, particularly, pay attention to training of twirling manipulation.
