Intense pulsed electric fields (PEF) are a novel modality for the efficient and targeted ablation of tumors by electroporation. The major adverse side effects of PEF therapies are strong involuntary muscle contractions and pain. Nanosecond-range PEF (nsPEF) are less efficient at neurostimulation and can be employed to minimize such side effects. We quantified the impact of the electrode configuration, PEF strength (up to 20 kV/cm), repetition rate (up to 3 MHz), bi- and triphasic pulse shapes, and pulse duration (down to 10 ns) on eliciting compound action potentials (CAPs) in nerve fibers. The excitation thresholds for single unipolar but not bipolar stimuli followed the classic strength-duration dependence. The addition of the opposite polarity phase for nsPEF increased the excitation threshold, with symmetrical bipolar nsPEF being the least efficient. Stimulation by nsPEF bursts decreased the excitation threshold as a power function above a critical duty cycle of 0.1%. The threshold reduction was much weaker for symmetrical bipolar nsPEF. Supramaximal stimulation by high-rate nsPEF bursts elicited only a single CAP as long as the burst duration did not exceed the nerve refractory period. Such brief bursts of bipolar nsPEF could be the best choice to minimize neuromuscular stimulation in ablation therapies.

BACKGROUND: Haemaphysalis longicornis is an obligate hematophagous ectoparasite that transmits a variety of pathogens causing life-threatening diseases in humans and animals. Paramyosin (Pmy) is not only an invertebrate-specific myofibrillar protein but also an important immunomodulatory protein. Therefore, it is one of the ideal candidate antigens for vaccines. METHODS: We conducted two vaccine trials to evaluate the protective efficacy of Pmy recombinant protein (rPmy) and peptide vaccine (KLH-LEE). Each rabbit was immunized with three doses of rPmy or KLH-LEE adjuvanted with Freund's complete/incomplete at 500 µg/dose at 2-week intervals before challenge with 40 female H. longicornis/rabbit. PBS plus adjuvant, Trx or KLH was used as control group. The antibodies of rabbits were detected by ELISA. Then, female ticks were fed on the rabbits until detachment. RESULTS: ELISA results showed that both vaccines induced rabbits to produce antibodies. Compared with the Trx group, the engorgement weight, oviposition and hatchability of the rPmy group decreased by 8.87%, 26.83% and 38.86%, respectively. On the other hand, engorgement weight, oviposition and hatchability of female ticks in the KLH-LEE group correspondingly resulted in 27.03%, 53.15% and 38.40% reduction compared with that of the KLH group. Considering the cumulative effect of vaccination on the evaluated parameters, results showed 60.37% efficacy of the rPmy vaccine formulation and 70.86% efficacy in the KLH-LEE group. CONCLUSIONS: Pmy and particularly epitope LEE have potential for further development of an effective candidate vaccine to protect the host against tick infection. GRAPHIC ABSTARCT.

Stimulation and electroporation by nanosecond electric pulses (nsEP) are distinguished by a phenomenon of bipolar cancellation, which stands for a reduced efficiency of bipolar pulses compared to unipolar ones. When two pairs of stimulating electrodes are arrayed in a quadrupole, bipolar cancellation inhibits nsEP effects near the electrodes, where the electric field is the strongest. Two properly shaped and synchronized bipolar nsEP overlay into a unipolar pulse towards the center of the electrode array, thus canceling the bipolar cancellation (a "CANCAN effect"). High efficiency of the re-created unipolar nsEP outweighs the weakening of the electric field with distance and focuses nsEP effects to the center. In monolayers of CHO, BPAE, and HEK cells, CANCAN effect achieved by the interference of two bipolar nsEP enhanced electroporation up to tenfold, with a peak at the quadrupole center. Introducing a time interval between bipolar nsEP prevented the formation of a unipolar pulse and eliminated the CANCAN effect. Strong electroporation by CANCAN stimuli killed cells over the entire area encompassed by the electrodes, whereas the time-separated pulses caused ablation only in the strongest electric field near the electrodes. The CANCAN approach is promising for uniform tumor ablation and stimulation targeting away from electrodes.

OBJECTIVE: To provide higher level evidence on the benefits of a Chinese patent medicine (CPM) (Fufang E'jiao Syrup, FFEJS) for alleviating cancer-related fatigue (CRF), this article describes a protocol for a randomized controlled trial. METHODS/DESIGN: We designed a double-blind, placebo-controlled stratified permuted block randomization clinical trial on CRF among 3 types of cancer in China. Participants will be equally allocated to FFEJS group or placebo group according to the randomization sequence and the hospitals they were enrolled at. Each patient will receive 20 ml of either the study formula FFEJS or a placebo formula, 3 times a day for 6 weeks. The follow-up period will be another 4 weeks for safety evaluation. The primary outcome is the difference in improvement of fatigue as measured with the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale-Chinese Version (RPFS-CV). Secondary outcomes include change in fatigue (measured by routine blood panel and hormones in peripheral blood) and QoL (measured by Edmonton symptom assessment scale and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy). Patient safety will be measured by liver, renal or cardiac damage, and the risk of FFEJS having a tumor promotion and progression effect will be monitored throughout this study. Cost-effectiveness will also be evaluated mainly by incremental cost per each quality-adjusted life year gained. DISCUSSION: This article describes the study design of a CPM for CRF in patients with advanced cancer through exploring the effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of FFEJS. BACKGROUNDS: Pilocytic astrocytomas (PAs) are World Health Organization (WHO) grade I tumors, which are relatively common, and are benign lesions in children. PAs could originate from the cerebellum, optic pathways, and third ventricular/hypothalamic region. Traditional various transcranial routes are used for hypothalamic PAs (HPAs). However, there are few studies on hypothalamic PAs treated through the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA). This study reports the preliminary experience of the investigators and results with HPAs via expanded EEAs. METHODS: All patients with HPAs, undergone EEA in our hospital from 2017 to 2019, were retrospectively reviewed. The demographic data, clinical symptoms, complications, skull base reconstruction, prognosis, and endocrinological data were all recorded and analyzed in detail. RESULTS: Finally, five female patients were enrolled. The average age of patients was 28.6 ± 14.0. All patients had complaints about their menstrual disorder. One patient had severe bilateral visual impairment. Furthermore, only one patient suffered from severe headache due to acute hydrocephalus, although there were four patients with headache or dizziness. Four cases achieved gross-total resection, and one patient achieved subtotal resection. Furthermore, there was visual improvement in one patient (case 5), and postoperative worsening of vision in one patient (case 4). However, only one patient had postoperative intracranial infection. None of the patients experienced a postoperative CSF leak, and in situ bone flap (ISBF) techniques were used for two cases for skull base repair. In particular, ISBF combined with free middle turbinate mucosal flap was used for case 5. After three years of follow-up, three patients are still alive, two patients had no neurological or visual symptoms, or tumor recurrence, and one patient had severe hypothalamic dysfunction. Unfortunately, one patient died of severe postoperative hypothalamus reaction, which presented with coma, high fever, diabetes insipidus, hypernatremia and intracranial infection. The other patient died of recurrent severe pancreatitis at one year after the operation. CONCLUSION: Although the data is still very limited and preliminary, EEA provides a direct approach to HPAs with acceptable prognosis in terms of tumor resection, endocrinological and visual outcomes. ISBF technique is safe and reliable for skull base reconstruction.

To discover effective drugs for COVID-19 treatment amongst already clinically approved drugs, we developed a high throughput screening assay for SARS-CoV-2 virus entry inhibitors using SARS2-S pseudotyped virus. An approved drug library of 1800 small molecular drugs was screened for SARS2 entry inhibitors and 15 active drugs were identified as specific SARS2-S pseudovirus entry inhibitors. Antiviral tests using native SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vero E6 cells confirmed that 7 of these drugs (clemastine, amiodarone, trimeprazine, bosutinib, toremifene, flupenthixol, and azelastine) significantly inhibited SARS2 replication, reducing supernatant viral RNA load with a promising level of activity. Three of the drugs were classified as histamine receptor antagonists with clemastine showing the strongest anti-SARS2 activity (EC50 = 0.95 ± 0.83 µM). Our work suggests that these 7 drugs could enter into further in vivo studies and clinical investigations for COVID-19 treatment.

A dielectric biconical antenna (DiBiCA) for radiating subnanosecond pulses to treat subcutaneous tissue was designed, constructed, and tested. It is composed of a conical wave launcher and truncated conical emitter. In between, there is a short cylinder that provides a space for a ring terminating resistor. The material of the antenna has a dielectric constant of 28, so its size is small (length: 7 cm and aperture diameter: 2.2 cm). It was housed in an oil container to withstand high voltages and avoid surface flashover. The radiated electric field, measured in water, increased as the input voltage increased up to 30 kV but leveled off for higher voltages up to 50 kV, presumably because of losses in the antenna dielectric. The maximum field was 1.5 kV/cm for a depth of 5 mm and 1.0 kV/cm for a depth of 20 mm. Although the dielectric loss mechanism remains to be investigated, the antenna can be useful for noninvasive delivery of subnanosecond pulses to induce biological responses on subcutaneous targets. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of Chinese herbal medicine formula, modified Liujunzi Decoction (, MLJZT), for anorexia, utilized as adjunct therapy during chemotherapy treatment for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS: The study adopted a propensity score-matched design based on a prospective database. From February 2016 to September 2017, patients with advanced NSCLC that received both cisplatin-based chemotherapy and MLJZT (IM group) were 1:1 propensity score-matched to patients that received the cisplatin-based chemotherapy alone (control group). Changes in anorexia and weight, as well as side effects were evaluated per week within 4-cycle chemotherapy. RESULTS: Overall, 156 patients with advanced NSCLC that had received chemotherapy from our database were identified and 53 pairs were matched successfully. In total, 48.6% (50/53) of patients in the IM group had anorexia-improvement compared to 28.3% (15/53) of patients in the control group, and a total of 39.6% (21/53) of patients in the control group had a worsening of anorexia compared to only 7.8% (8/53) of patients in the IM group (P<0.01). The weight reduced significantly over time in the control group (-2.36 ± 2.53 kg) as compared to the IM group (-0.62 ± 3.89 kg, P<0.01). CHM didn't reduce the efficacy of chemotherapy in shrinking tumor size, and didn't increase the incidence of side effects such as hematological and hepatorenal toxicity. CONCLUSION: MLJZT is effective and safe for alleviating anorexia in patients with NSCLC. These findings warrant the conduct of a randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: A method that utilizes nanosecond bipolar cancellation (BPC) near a quadrupole electrodes to suppress a biological response but cancels the distal BPC at the quadrupole center, i.e., cancellation of cancellation (CANCAN), may allow for a remote focused stimulation at the quadrupole center. Objectives: The primary object of this study was to outline the requirement of the CANCAN implementation and select an effective quadrupole configuration. Results: We have studied three quadrupole electrode configurations, a rod quadrupole, a plate quadrupole (Plate-Q), and a resistor quadrupole. The pulse shapes of electric fields include monophasic pulses, cancellation pulses, and additive pulses. The Plate-Q appears the best for CANCAN as it shows the highest percentage of cancellation pulses among all pulse shapes, allowing for the best spatial focus. Conclusion: For the region of interest characterized in the Plate-Q configuration, the maximum magnitude of bipolar field is twice as that of the unipolar field, which allows for the CANCAN demonstration that involves membrane electropermeabilization.

A unique aspect of electrostimulation (ES) with nanosecond electric pulses (nsEP) is the inhibition of effects when the polarity is reversed. This bipolar cancellation feature makes bipolar nsEP less efficient at biostimulation than unipolar nsEP. We propose to minimize stimulation near pulse-delivering electrodes by applying bipolar nsEP, whereas the superposition of two phase-shifted bipolar nsEP from two independent sources yields a biologically-effective unipolar pulse remotely. This is accomplished by electrical compensation of all nsEP phases except the first one, resulting in the restoration of stimulation efficiency due to cancellation of bipolar cancellation (CANCAN-ES). We experimentally proved the CANCAN-ES paradigm by measuring YO-PRO-1 dye uptake in CHO-K1 cells which were permeabilized by multiphasic nsEP (600 ns per phase) from two generators; these nsEP were synchronized either to overlap into a unipolar pulse remotely from electrodes (CANCAN), or not to overlap (control). Enhancement of YO-PRO-1 entry due to CANCAN was observed in all sets of experiments and reached ~3-fold in the center of the gap between electrodes, exactly where the unipolar pulse was formed, and equaled the degree of bipolar cancellation. CANCAN-ES is promising for non-invasive deep tissue stimulation, either alone or combined with other remote stimulation techniques to improve targeting.

Intense nanosecond pulsed electric field (nsPEF) is a novel modality for cell activation and nanoelectroporation. Applications of nsPEF in research and therapy are hindered by a high electric field requirement, typically from 1 to over 50 kV/cm to elicit any bioeffects. We show how this requirement can be overcome by engaging temporal summation when pulses are compressed into high-rate bursts (up to several MHz). This approach was tested for excitation of ventricular cardiomyocytes and peripheral nerve fibers; for membrane electroporation of cardiomyocytes, CHO, and HEK cells; and for killing EL-4 cells. MHz compression of nsPEF bursts (100-1000 pulses) enables excitation at only 0.01-0.15 kV/cm and electroporation already at 0.4-0.6 kV/cm. Clear separation of excitation and electroporation thresholds allows for multiple excitation cycles without membrane disruption. The efficiency of nsPEF bursts increases with the duty cycle (by increasing either pulse duration or repetition rate) and with increasing the total time "on" (by increasing either pulse duration or number). For some endpoints, the efficiency of nsPEF bursts matches a single "long" pulse whose amplitude and duration equal the time-average amplitude and duration of the bursts. For other endpoints this rule is not valid, presumably because of nsPEF-specific bioeffects and/or possible modification of targets already during the burst. MHz compression of nsPEF bursts is a universal and efficient way to lower excitation thresholds and facilitate electroporation.

To minimize the predatory harvest of Heterosmilax yunnanensis and maintain the sustainable utilization of its resources, a study on the tending technology of wild H. yunnanensis was carried out. The results showed that the tuber tending model had a higher seed emergence rate, shorter growth period and easier control of male and female ratios than other tending models; by removing shrubs, topping, bending pruning, controlling insects and pests and other effective technical measures, the growth period of H. yunnanensis was shortened; the average annual net income of the tending area was 1 086 yuan/mu (1 mu≈666.67 m²), which was 86.9% higher than before. This study was conducive to increasing the yield and quality of H. yunnanensis in Karst landform area, and instructive for the tending of other wild traditional Chinese medicinal herbs in this area.

Biological effects caused by a nanosecond pulse, such as cell membrane permeabilization, peripheral nerve excitation and cell blebbing, can be reduced or cancelled by applying another pulse of reversed polarity. Depending on the degree of cancellation, the pulse interval of these two pulses can be as long as dozens of microseconds. The cancellation effect diminishes as the pulse duration increases. To study the cancellation effect and potentially utilize it in electrotherapy, nanosecond bipolar pulse generators must be made available. An overview of the generators is given in this paper. A pulse forming line (PFL) that is matched at one end and shorted at the other end allows a bipolar pulse to be produced, but no delay can be inserted between the phases. Another generator employs a combination of a resistor, an inductor and a capacitor to form an RLC resonant circuit so that a bipolar pulse with a decaying magnitude can be generated. A third generator is a converter, which converts an existing unipolar pulse to a bipolar pulse. This is done by inserting an inductor in a transmission line. The first phase of the bipolar pulse is provided by the unipolar pulse's rising phase. The second phase is formed during the fall time of the unipolar pulse, when the inductor, which was previously charged during the flat part of the unipolar pulse, discharges its current to the load. The fourth type of generator uses multiple MOSFET switches stacked to turn on a pre-charged, bipolar RC network. This approach is the most flexible in that it can generate multiphasic pulses that have different amplitudes, delays, and durations. However, it may not be suitable for producing short nanosecond pulses (<100 ns), whereas the PFL approach and the RLC approach with gas switches are used for this range. Thus, each generator has its own advantages and applicable range.

By the means of chromatographic methods and spectroscopic evidences, 7 diterpenoids were isolated and identified from the roots of Pieris formosa. These known compounds are elucidated as secorhodomollolide C(1), pierisoid B (2), secorhodomollolide B (3), secorhodomollolide A (4), pierisformotoxin G (5), pierisformotoxin B (6) and pierisformotoxin A (7). Compounds 3, 4 were obtained from this plant for the first time. The analgesic activities of compounds 1-7 were evaluated using an acetic acidinduced writhing test in mice. Compounds 3, 4, 6, and 7 exhibited significant analgesic activity at 5 mg·kg;⁻ (ip) compared to vehicle-injected mice (P<0.05). The writhe inhibition rates of compounds 3, 4, 6 and 7 at 5 mg·kg⁻¹ (ip) were 41.3%, 39.4%, 38.6% and 37.5%, respectively.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of Fuzheng Kang'ai Formula (, FZKA) plus gefitinib in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was conducted from 2009 to 2012 in South China. Seventy chemotherapynaive patients diagnosed with stage IIIB/IV non-small cell lung cancer with EGFR mutations were randomly assigned to GF group [gefitinib (250 mg/day orally) plus FZKA (250 mL, twice per day, orally); 35 cases] or G group (gefitinib 250 mg/day orally; 35 cases) according to the random number table and received treatment until progression of the disease, or development of unacceptable toxicities. The primary endpoint [progression-free survival (PFS)] and secondary endpoints [median survival time (MST), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and safety] were observed. RESULTS: No patient was excluded after randomization. GF group had significantly longer PFS and MST compared with the G group, with median PFS of 12.5 months (95% CI 3.30-21.69) vs. 8.4 months (95% CI 6.30-10.50; log-rank P<0.01), MST of 21.5 months (95% CI 17.28-25.73) vs. 18.3 months (95% CI 17.97-18.63; log-rank P<0.01). ORR and DCR in GF group and G group were 65.7% vs. 57.1%, 94.3% vs. 80.0%, respectively (P>0.05). The most common toxic effects in the GF group and G group were rash or acne (42.8% vs. 57.1%, P>0.05), diarrhea (11.5% vs. 31.4%, P<0.05), and stomatitis (2.9% vs. 8.7%, P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer selected by EGFR mutations have longer PFS, MST with less toxicity treated with gefitinib plus FZKA than gefitinib alone.

This study was to evaluate the role of hospital environment or physician presence for white coat effect (WCE) in hypertensive patients. At first, 54 hypertensive outpatients diagnosed on office blood pressure (OBP) were included for 2-week placebo run in. During the second week of the run in period, home BP was measured using electronic BP monitors for 5-7 days. Finally, 26 sustained hypertensive patients with home systolic BP/diastolic BP over 135/85 (but <180/110) mm Hg were enrolled for 8-week treatment of nifedipine controlled-release tablet. In the visit day, BP was measured by patient-self (OBP-p) or by doctor (OBP-d) according to order determined with randomization method. The self-BP measurement was performed in a reception room of hospital. The differences between home BP and OBP-d or OBP-p were calculated as WCE calculated on doctor-measurement (WCE-d) or WCE calculated on patient-measurement (WCE-p), respectively. The home and OBP were measured with the same BP device for each patient during the study period. In the total 54 outpatients received placebo, the WCE-d was similar to the WCE-p (for systolic BP 6.6 ± 14.4 vs. 6.8 ± 15.8 mm Hg, NS; for diastolic BP 3.3 ± 8.8 vs. 2.9 ± 9.2 mm Hg, NS). Meanwhile, the 26 sustained hypertensive patients had similar systolic WCE-d and WCE-p (4.8 ± 10.3 vs. 5.0 ± 12.2 mm Hg, NS) at placebo stage. Similarly, these values were comparable (3.0 ± 14.0 vs. 2.2 ± 14.4 mm Hg, NS) in treatment stage. Hospital environment plays a main role for the WCE in hypertensive patients.

Electric field pulses of nano- and picosecond duration are a novel modality for neurostimulation, activation of Ca2+ signaling, and tissue ablation. However it is not known how such brief pulses activate voltage-gated ion channels. We studied excitation and electroporation of hippocampal neurons by 200-ns pulsed electric field (nsPEF), by means of time-lapse imaging of the optical membrane potential (OMP) with FluoVolt dye. Electroporation abruptly shifted OMP to a more depolarized level, which was reached within <1ms. The OMP recovery started rapidly (τ=8-12ms) but gradually slowed down (to τ>10s), so cells remained above the resting OMP level for at least 20-30s. Activation of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSC) enhanced the depolarizing effect of electroporation, resulting in an additional tetrodotoxin-sensitive OMP peak in 4-5ms after nsPEF. Omitting Ca2+ in the extracellular solution did not reduce the depolarization, suggesting no contribution of voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCC). In 40% of neurons, nsPEF triggered a single action potential (AP), with the median threshold of 3kV/cm (range: 1.9-4kV/cm); no APs could be evoked by stimuli below the electroporation threshold (1.5-1.9kV/cm). VGSC opening could already be detected in 0.5ms after nsPEF, which is too fast to be mediated by the depolarizing effect of electroporation. The overlap of electroporation and AP thresholds does not necessarily reflect the causal relation, but suggests a low potency of nsPEF, as compared to conventional electrostimulation, for VGSC activation and AP induction.

There is a recognized challenge in analyzing traditional Chinese medicine formulas because of their complex chemical compositions. The application of modern analytical techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a tandem mass spectrometry has improved the characterization of various compounds from traditional Chinese medicine formulas significantly. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis to recognize the overall trend of high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry approaches in the analysis of traditional Chinese medicine formulas, its significance and possible underlying interactions between individual herbs in these formulas. Electronic databases were searched systematically, and the identified studies were collected and analyzed using Microsoft Access 2010, Graph Pad 5.0 software and Ucinet software package. 338 publications between 1997 and 2015 were identified, and analyzed in terms of annual growth and accumulated publications, top journals, forms of traditional Chinese medicine preparations and highly studied formulas and single herbs, as well as social network analysis of single herbs. There is a significant increase trend in using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry related techniques in analysis of commonly used forms of traditional Chinese medicine formulas in the last 3 years. Stringent quality control is of great significance for the modernization and globalization of traditional Chinese medicine, and this bibliometric analysis provided the first and comprehensive summary within this field.

OBJECTIVE: To study the efficacy and safety of sorafenib combined with low dose cytarabine for treating patients with FLT3(+) relapsed and refractory acute myeloid leukemia (FLT3(+) RR-AML). METHODS: Seven patients with FLT3(+) RR-AML were treated with sorafenib and low dose cytarabine. The curative rate and adverse effects were observed in these patients. RESULTS: Out of 7 RR-AML patients after treatment, 5 patients achieved complete remission (CR), 2 patients achieved partial remission (PR), and the overall response rate (ORR) after one course of therapy was 100%. No severe bleeding, nausea, vomiting and other side effects were found in these patients. CONCLUSION: Sorafenib combined with low dose cytarabine can effectively induce the remission of FLT3(+) RR-AML patients, and is worth for further clinical trails to verify its safty and efficiency.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Jianpi Liqi Yiliu Formula (JLYF) combined with cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells for treating patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Between January 2011 and January 2014, 60 advanced HCC patients were enrolled in this study, who were assigned to the treatment group and the control group according to their willingness for taking JLYF, 30 cases in each group. All patients received CIK cell treatment: 1 x 109-3 x 109 each time, by intravenous dripping from the 1st day to the 3rd day, once per day. Besides, patients in the treatment group took JLYF decoction, while those in the control group took Chinese medical decoction by syndrome typing. All patients received treatment of at least two cycles. The time to progression (TTP) , overall survival (OS), disease control rate (DCR), performance status scale (PS), Child-Pugh scale, and adverse reactions were observed, and subgroup analyzed. RESULTS: To May 31, 2014, all patients reached the clinical endpoint. TTP was 3.5 months (95% Cl: 3.30-4.10) in the treatment group, better than that (2.5 months, 95% CI: 2.32-2.68) of the control group (P < 0.05). DCR was 36.7% in the treatment group and 30.0% in the control group (P > 0.05). OS was 5.2 months (95% CI: 4.53-5.87) in the treatment group and 4.6 months (95% CI: 4.06-5.14) in the control group (P > 0.05). The PS scale was 1.60 ± 0.10 after treatment, lower than that (1.80 ± 0.09) before treatment in the treatment group (P < 0.05). When the PS scale was 0-2 or Child-Pugh scale was class A, TTP was longer in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05). No adverse reaction occurred in the two groups during the treatment course. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of JLYF with ClK cell treatment could prolong advanced HCC patients' TTP, improve PS scale, as compared with syndrome typed Chinese medical decoction treatment group. Besides, when the PS scale was 0-2 or Child-Pugh scale was class A, it was a better treatment program for advanced HCC patients.
