RESUMO

Employee wellbeing as a central aspect of organizational growth has been widely regarded and accepted. Therefore, a considerable growth in the number of researches focusing on employee wellbeing has been comprehended in recent years. Employee wellbeing characterizes the individual's own cognitive interpretation of his/her life at work. The present study made an attempt to examine how workplace spirituality, empathic concern and organizational politics influences employee wellbeing. It was hypothesized that empathic concern mediates the relationship between workplace spirituality and employee wellbeing while organizational politics act as a moderator in this relationship. A survey was conducted on 253 employees working in Uttar Pradesh Police department (Uttar Pradesh, India). The results obtained revealed that workplace spirituality, empathic concern and employee wellbeing carries a positive association among them whereas these variables were found to be negatively correlated with organizational politics. Results also depicted that empathic concern significantly mediates between workplace spirituality and employee wellbeing. Further, moderated mediation analysis confirmed employee wellbeing as a function of workplace spirituality, empathic concern and organizational politics. The present study has put forward several practical implications for business practitioners and research directions for academicians, emphasizing upon the need to investigate the comprehensive impact of employee wellbeing in organization and the society as a whole.

RESUMO

Stachys riederi is one of the largest genera in the flowering plant family Lamiaceae. The aqueous extract of Stachys riederi var. japonica is known for its antiallergic effect. In the present study, the antioxidant and cytoprotective effects of Stachys riederi var. japonica ethanol extract (SREE) on ultraviolet A (UVA)irradiated human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) were evaluated. At 100 µg/ml, SREE significantly inhibited production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in UVAirradiated HDFs. SREE at 100 µg/ml additionally markedly interfered with the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) in these cells. In addition, SREE at 100 µg/ml attenuated UVAinduced DNA fragmentation and caspase3 activation in HDFs. SREE at 100 µg/ml additionally increased mRNA and protein expressions of Bcl2 and decreased those of Bax and cytochrome c in UVAirradiated HDFs. In summary, to the best of our knowledge, these results demonstrate for the first time that SREE exhibited antioxidant and cytoprotective effects on UVAirradiated HDFs, which may be mediated through suppression of ROS generation, inhibition of the loss of ΔΨm and inhibition of apoptosis.

RESUMO

Epidemic dropsy (ED) is caused due to intoxication with Argemone mexicana. Here we report a case series of three families, all of whom were residents of Uttar Pradesh, India, who presented in August 2013 with all the classical features of ED. We aim to highlight the importance of this malady even though the sale of unbottled mustard oil is illegal in India.

RESUMO

Automaticity from extra nodal accessory pathways appears to be rare. We report the case of a man with the WPW syndrome who presented for repeat electrophysiological study and catheter ablation. After successful ablation of a para-Hisian accessory pathway, an isoproterenol challenge produced an accelerated wide complex rhythm that was dissociated from sinus rhythm and matched the previous pattern of maximal preexcitation. This automatic rhythm was transient and dependent on catecholamine administration. One month after successful ablation, an exercise treadmill test (ETT) did not demonstrate any pre-excitation or ectopy.

RESUMO

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in the United States, whose incidence is greatest in the elderly population. This rhythm disorder can be paroxysmal or chronic and is associated with a range of clinical conditions from palpitations and dyspnea to stroke and death. In the elderly the mainstay of treatment of atrial fibrillation should utilize drug therapy. The main goals of drug therapy should be effective rate control to avoid tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy, anticoagulation to reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism, and maintenance of sinus rhythm to prevent adverse atrial remodeling. In those patients in whom effective rate control cannot be achieved, catheter ablation of the atrioventricular node and implantation of a permanent pacemaker should be considered. Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation by targeting pulmonary venous foci or pulmonary venous isolation currently remains investigational and we advocate its use be limited to symptomatic patients who have failed traditional therapy.
