RESUMO
A novel three-dimensional aluminum sludge/polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate(AS/PA/SA) gel spheres were designed and prepared for uranium(VI) adsorption, and it overcomes the shortcomings of poor recycling of powdery aluminum sludge adsorbent and poor stability of sodium alginate. Experiments show that the P-S-AS has a good pH range for removal of uranium (4-5). Fitting experimental data with pseudo-first-order kinetic model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model shows that the adsorption of U(VI) by P-S-AS is a chemical action. The fit of the Langmuir isotherm model and Freundlich isotherm model to the experimental data found that the P-S-AS adsorbed U(VI) to a single layer. Thermodynamic analysis shows that the adsorption occurs spontaneously, and an increase in temperature is favorable for the adsorption of uranium by the P-S-AS. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of the P-S-AS before and after adsorption showed that the main adsorption mechanism was the complexation reaction between functional groups and U(VI), the bonding reaction between metal oxides and U(VI).

OBJECTIVE: To explore the protective effects of electroacupuncture preconditioning at "Neiguan" (PC 6) on myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury (MIRI) and the mechanism. METHODS: Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group (group N), a MIRI group (group M) and an electroacupuncture group (group E). The MIRI model was generated by ligating the left anterior descending artery (LAD) for 30 min followed by reperfusion for 120 min. The partition sutures in group N were passed under the LAD without ligation. The rats in group E were pretreated with electroacupuncture applied at bilateral "Neiguan" (PC 6) for 20 min once a day on 3 consecutive days before ischemia. The area at risk and infarct size and the serum levels of CK-MB and LDH were measured. The morphological changes were observed by light microscopy. The mRNA expressions of delta and kappa opioid receptor (DOR and KOR) were determined by real-time RT-PCR. RESULTS: The myocardial infarct size in group E was significant smaller than that in group M (P < 0.05). The contents of CK-MB and LDH were (980 +/- 92) U/L and (2 743 +/- 124) U/L in group M which were significant higher than (312 +/- 41) U/L and (530 +/- 56) U/L in group N (both P < 0.01) and (572 +/- 70) U/L and (1 819 +/- 97) U/L in group E (both P < 0.01). The mRNA expressions of DOR and KOR had no significant difference between group M and N (both P > 0.05), while the DOR expression in group E was significant higher than that in group M and N (both P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in KOR expression among three groups (all P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The cardiac protective effects of electroacupuncture preconditioning at "Neiguan" (PC 6) on MIRI may be mediated by increasing expression of delta opioid receptor in myocardium.

AIM: To assess the effect of notoginsenoside R1 on hepatic microcirculatory disturbance induced by gut ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in mice. METHODS: The superior mesenteric artery (SMA) of C57/BL mice was ligated for 15 min to induce gut ischemia followed by 30-min reperfusion. In another set of experiments, R1 was continuously infused (10 mg/kg per hour) from 10 min before I/R until the end of the investigation to study the influence of R1 on hepatic microcirculatory disturbance induced by gut I/R. Hepatic microcirculation was observed by inverted microscopy, and the vascular diameter, red blood cell (RBC) velocity and sinusoid perfusion were estimated. Leukocyte rolling and adhesion were observed under a laser confocal microscope. Thirty and 60 min after reperfusion, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) in peripheral blood were determined. The expression of adhesion molecules CD11b/CD18 in neutrophils and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) in plasma were evaluated by flow cytometry. E-selectin and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in hepatic tissue were examined by immunofluorescence. RESULTS: After gut I/R, the diameters of terminal portal venules and central veins, RBC velocity and the number of perfused sinusoids were decreased, while the leukocyte rolling and adhesion, the expression of E-selectin in hepatic vessels and CD18 in neutrophils, IL-6, MCP-1, LDH, ALT and AST were increased. R1 treatment attenuated these alterations except for IL-6 and MCP-1. CONCLUSION: R1 prevents I/R-induced hepatic microcirculation disturbance and hepatocyte injury. The effect of R1 is related to its inhibition of leukocyte rolling and adhesion by inhibiting the expression of E-selectin in endothelium and CD18 in neutrophils.
