RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Seleno-methylselenocysteine (SeMCys) is an effective component of selenium supplementation with anti-carcinogenic potential that can ameliorate neuropathology and cognitive deficits. In a previous study, a SeMCys producing strain of Bacillus subtilis GBACB was generated by releasing feedback inhibition by overexpression of cysteine-insensitive serine O-acetyltransferase, enhancing the synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine as methyl donor by overexpression of S-adenosylmethionine synthetase, and expressing heterologous selenocysteine methyltransferase. In this study, we aimed to improve GBACB SeMCys production by synthesizing methylmethionine as a donor to methylate selenocysteine and by inhibiting the precursor degradation pathway. RESULTS: First, the performance of three methionine S-methyltransferases that provide methylmethionine as a methyl donor for SeMCys production was determined. Integration of the NmMmt gene into GBACB improved SeMCys production from 20.7 to 687.4 µg/L. Next, the major routes for the degradation of selenocysteine, which is the precursor of SeMCys, were revealed by comparing selenocysteine hyper-accumulating and non-producing strains at the transcriptional level. The iscSB knockout strain doubled SeMCys production. Moreover, deleting sdaA, which is responsible for the degradation of serine as a precursor of selenocysteine, enhanced SeMCys production to 4120.3 µg/L. Finally, the culture conditions in the flasks were optimized. The strain was tolerant to higher selenite content in the liquid medium and the titer of SeMCys reached 7.5 mg/L. CONCLUSIONS: The significance of methylmethionine as a methyl donor for SeMCys production in B. subtilis is reported, and enhanced precursor supply facilitates SeMCys synthesis. The results represent the highest SeMCys production to date and provide insight into Se metabolism.

RESUMO

The intracellular triterpene yield from Ganoderma atrum was enhanced by optimization based on single-factor experiments, Plackett-Burman experimental design (PBED) and response surface methodology (RSM) under liquid fermentation conditions. The optimal medium composition (g·L-1) was glucose (46.0), bean cake powder (30.2), KH2PO4 (2.0), CaCl2 (3.0), MgSO4 (1.5), FeSO4 (0.2), and pH 6.0. Under the optimal conditions, the highest triterpene yield of 0.527 g·L-1 was obtained, which was 4.705-fold higher than before optimization. The fermented powder that was collected from the optimal medium was subjected to simulated gastrointestinal digestion, with differences resulting from extraction in different digestive juices (purified water, simulated gastric digestive juice, simulated gastrointestinal digestive juice). The content of triterpenes and polysaccharides increased, except for total phenol content. In terms of the antioxidant activity, the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl) hydrazyl (DPPH+⋅) scavenging activity gradually decreased whereas the 2, 2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS+⋅) scavenging activity first decreased and then increased. In terms of enzyme viability, the activity of α-amylase (α-AL) and α-glucosidase (α-GC) in the digestive juices decreased dramatically. The main bioactive components of G. atrum and their bioactivity in digestive juices were evaluated, providing a reference for the effective use of fermented power from G. atrum.

RESUMO

Seleno-methylselenocysteine (SeMCys) is an effective component for selenium supplementation with anti-carcinogenic potential and can ameliorate neuropathology and cognitive deficits. In this study, we aimed to engineer Bacillus subtilis 168 for the microbial production of SeMCys. First, the accumulation of intracellular selenocysteine (SeCys) as the precursor of SeMCys was enhanced through overexpression of serine O-acetyltransferase, which was desensitized against feedback inhibition by cysteine. Next, the S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) synthetic pathway was optimized to improve methyl donor availability through expression of S-adenosylmethionine synthetase. Further, SeMCys was successfully produced through expression of the selenocysteine methyltransferase in SeCys and SAM-producing strain. The increased expression level of selenocysteine methyltransferase benefited the SeMCys production. Finally, all the heterologous genes were integrated into the genome of B. subtilis, and the strain produced SeMCys at a titer of 18.4 µg/L in fed-batch culture. This is the first report on the metabolic engineering of B. subtilis for microbial production of SeMCys and provides a good starting point for future pathway engineering to achieve the industrial-grade production of SeMCys. KEY POINTS: • Expression of the feedback-insensitive serine O-acetyltransferase provided B. subtilis the ability of accumulating SeCys. • SAM production was enhanced through expressing S-adenosylmethionine synthetase in B. subtilis. • Expression of selenocysteine methyltransferase in SeCys and SAM-accumulating strain facilitated SeMCys production.

RESUMO

Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) can be produced by biogenic, physical, and chemical processes. The physical and chemical processes have hazardous effects. However, biogenic synthesis (by microorganisms) is an eco-friendly and economical technique that is non-toxic to human and animal health. The mechanism for biogenic SeNPs from microorganisms is still not well understood. Over the past two decades, extensive research has been conducted on the nutritional and therapeutic applications of biogenic SeNPs. The research revealed that biogenic SeNPs are considered novel competitors in the pharmaceutical and food industries, as they have been shown to be virtually non-toxic when used in medical practice and as dietary supplements and release only trace amounts of Se ions when ingested. Various pathogenic and probiotic/nonpathogenic bacteria are used for the biogenic synthesis of SeNPs. However, in the case of biosynthesis by pathogenic bacteria, extraction and purification techniques are required for further useful applications of these biogenic SeNPs. This review focuses on the applications of SeNPs (derived from probiotic/nonpathogenic organisms) as promising anticancer agents. This review describes that SeNPs derived from probiotic/nonpathogenic organisms are considered safe for human consumption. These biogenic SeNPs reduce oxidative stress in the human body and have also been shown to be effective against breast, prostate, lung, liver, and colon cancers. This review provides helpful information on the safe use of biogenic SeNPs and their economic importance for dietary and therapeutic purposes, especially as anticancer agents.

RESUMO

CONTEXT: Obesity, one of the major public health problems worldwide, has attracted increasing attention. Ginsenoside Rb1 is the most abundant active component of Panax ginseng C.A.Mey (Araliaceae) and is reported to have beneficial effects on obesity and diabetes. However, the mechanisms by which Rb1 regulates obesity remain to be explored. OBJECTIVE: This paper intends to further explore the mechanism of Rb1 in regulating obesity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The C57BL/6 obese mice were divided into two groups: the control (CTR) and Rb1. The CTR group [intraperitoneally (ip) administered with saline] and the Rb1 group (ip administered with Rb1, 40 mg/kg/d) were treated daily for four weeks. In vitro, Rb1 (0, 10, 20, 40 µM) was added to differentiated C2C12 cells and Rb1 (0, 20, 40 µM) was added to 3T3-L1 cells. After 24 h, total RNA and protein from C2C12 cells and 3T3-L1 cells were used to detect myostatin (MSTN) and fibronectin type III domain-containing 5 (FNDC5) expression. RESULTS: Rb1 reduced the body weight and adipocyte size. Improved glucose tolerance and increased basic metabolic activity were also found in Rb1 treated mice. MSTN was downregulated in differentiated C2C12 cells, 3T3-L1 cells and adipose tissues upon Rb1 treatment. FNDC5 was increased after Rb1 treatment. However, MSTN overexpression attenuated Rb1-mediated decrease accumulation of lipid droplets in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes. DISCUSSION & CONCLUSIONS: Rb1 may ameliorate obesity in part through the MSTN/FNDC5 signalling pathway. Our results showed that Rb1 can be used as an effective drug in the treatment of human obesity.

RESUMO

Previous studies showed that some components in tea had potential beneficial effects on depression. However, population-based studies examining the potential benefits of tea on depression are limited. We hypothesized that older Chinese with habitual tea consumption had lower levels of depressive symptoms than those without habitual tea consumption. A cross-sectional analysis of baseline data from the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study was conducted. Depressive symptoms were measured by the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score (continuous), with the presence defined by a GDS ≥ 8. Of 10,014 participants, 421 (4.20%) had depressive symptoms. After adjusting for potential confounders, compared with never-consumers, occasional and regular consumers had lower GDS scores (ß [95% confidence interval]: -0.29 [-0.46, -0.11] and -0.60 [-0.78, -0.42], respectively), and regular consumers showed lower odds of depressive symptoms (odds ratio [95% CI]: 0.51 (0.35-0.72). In regular tea consumers, greater frequency, amount per occasion and per week, and higher amount-years showed lower GDS score (all P for trend <0.001) and lower odds of depressive symptoms (all P for trend < .05) than nonconsumers. The results were similar by different types of tea (green tea, black tea, and oolong tea) consumed. Further adjustment for social characteristics of tea consumption attenuated the association slightly but not fully. In conclusion, habitual tea consumption was associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms among older Chinese, which might be partly explained by social interaction during consumption. Further investigation on causation and mechanisms, including mechanistic randomized controlled trials is warranted.

RESUMO

Among the trace elements, selenium (Se) has great demand as a health supplement. Compared to its other forms, selenium nanoparticles have minor toxicity, superior reactivity, and excellent bioavailability. The present study was conducted to produce selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) via a biosynthetic approach using probiotic Bacillus subtilis BSN313 in an economical and easy manner. The BSN313 exhibited a gradual increase in Se reduction and production of SeNPs up to 5-200 µg/mL of its environmental Se. However, the capability was decreased beyond that concentration. The capacity for extracellular SeNP production was evidenced by the emergence of red color, then confirmed by a microscopic approach. Produced SeNPs were purified, freeze-dried, and subsequently characterized systematically using UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, Zetasizer, SEM-EDS, and TEM techniques. SEM-EDS analysis proved the presence of selenium as the foremost constituent of SeNPs. With an average particle size of 530 nm, SeNPs were shown to have a -26.9 (mV) zeta potential and -2.11 µm cm/Vs electrophoretic mobility in water. SeNPs produced during both the 24 and 48 h incubation periods showed good antioxidant activity in terms of DPPH and ABST scavenging action at a concentration of 150 µg/mL with no significant differences (p > 0.05). Moreover, 200 µg/mL of SeNPs showed antibacterial reactivity against Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 9027, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 25923. In the future, this work will be helpful to produce biogenic SeNPs using probiotic Bacillus subtilis BSN313 as biofactories, with the potential for safe use in biomedical and nutritional applications.

RESUMO

The main aim of this work was to screen, isolate, and identify a probiotic selenium (Se)-resistant strain of Bacillus subtilis, using the 16S rDNA sequencing approach and subsequently optimize conditions. Initially, conditions were enhanced in two univariate optimization environments: shakings flask and a bioreactor. After solving optimization for selected variables, conditions were further optimized using orthogonal array testing. The results were further evaluated by the analysis of variance, in support of Se enrichment. In a bioreactor, based on R and F values, the order of effect of selected conditions on Se enrichment was stirring speed > initial pH > temperature > Se addition time. The stirring speed of the bioreactor was most significant, due to the suspension of reduced Se, as it formed. After absolute optimization, strain BSN313 was able to enrich Se up to 2,123 µg/g of dry weight, which is 7.58 times greater than the baseline Se-resistance. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Systematic studies of selenium enrichment conditions will facilitate the successful development of an organic selenium source and the safe use of Bacillus subtilis strain (BSN313) as a food supplement. Selenium-enriched probiotic bacteria are reported to provide many health benefits to the host, due to antipathogenic, antioxidative, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic, and anti-inflammatory activities.

RESUMO

Anthraquinones, dianthrones and tannins are the main active ingredients of Rheum tanguticum. In this study the three components were determined by HPLC,and the results were analyzed by multiple comparisons, principal components analysis(PCA)and correspondence analysis(CA). The results showed that the contents of components in different growing areas and types(wild and cultivated) reached a significant level(P<0. 05). Baiyu county,Xiaojin county and Ruoergai county had obvious advantages in the accumulation of catechin hydrate, rhien and sensenoside A respectively. The principal component was different in two growing type and the wild environment was conducive to combined anthraquinones accumulation. For active components, normalized planting was better than retail cultivating. Therefore, the effect on the accumulation of chemical components in Rh. tangusticum, should be taken into full account in the selection of the cultural base of Rh. tanguticum. The standardized cultivating is superior to retail cultivating in terms of the accumulation of active ingredients, and standardized planting is inferior to the wild.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-provoked dormant conduction (DC) and pacing for unexcitability are used to identify conduction gaps along the ablation lines after circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI). We aim to determine whether ATP provocation and pacing are interchangeable as endpoints for ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 107 patients with PAF were randomly divided into two groups after completion of CPVI. In group I (A-P group, n = 53), ATP was administered first. If DC was uncovered, additional ablation was performed until ATP tests were negative. Bipolar pacing along the ablation line was performed subsequently. In group II (P-A group, n = 54), the same protocol was used, but the pacing and the ATP tests were performed in the opposite sequence. The 12-month ablation outcomes of all patients were compared with those of a historical control group of 107 patients with PAF in whom only ATP test was performed. Regardless of which test was performed first, the other modality still identified conduction gaps. In group I, pacing maneuvers identified gaps in 49% (n = 26) of patients who had negative ATP tests. In group II, ATP tests uncovered DC in 18.5% (n = 10) of patients in whom pacing identified no gaps. After 12 months, a higher proportion of patients (91.6%) were free from atrial tachyarrhythmias compared with the historical control group (81.3%; P = 0.031). CONCLUSION: Pacing along the ablation lines and ATP provocation are complementary tests for evaluating the durability of CPVI and can lead to better long-term outcomes when used in combination.

RESUMO

Allergic rhinitis (AR), one of the common diseases of the upper respiratory system, is associated with high risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Biyuanling Granules (BLG), a formulated preparation of traditional Chinese medicine, has been used in China for treatment of AR for more than a decade; however, its exact action against allergic rhinitis and the mechanism involved remain unclear. In this study, we studied the effects of BLG on allergic rhinitis induced by toluene-2, 4- diisocyanate (TDI) in guinea pigs. The anti-AR effects of BLG were evaluated by behavior observations, histological examinations of the nasal tissues stained with hematoxylin and eosin staining (H&E), immunohistochemical analyses of pulmonary surfactant associated protein (SP), Bcl-2 Associated X Protei (Bax), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in the nasal mucosa, and serum tests of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and human SARS-specific immunoglobulin (SIgE) levels. We observed that in the AR-positive animals treated with BLG, the symptom scores were significantly higher (P < 0.01), the nasal mucosa edemas and inflammatory infiltrates were significantly alleviated (P < 0.01) and the serum IL-4 and SIgE levels were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) as compared with the control group. Immunohistochemical examinations of the nasal mucosa demonstrated that the expressions of TNF-α, SP and VCAM-1 were significantly decreased (P < 0.01), whereas Bax expression was increased in the BLG treatment groups (P < 0.05). These results indicate that BLG can effectively suppress the TDI-induced AR, and that the protective effects of BLG were associated with reductions of TNF-α, SP and VCAM-1, and an elevation of Bax, suggesting that BLG exerts its AR-suppressive effects through inhibition of inflammatory response.

RESUMO

Bi-yuan-ling granule (BLG) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound composed mainly of baicalin and chlorogenic acid. It has been demonstrated to be clinically effective for various inflammatory diseases such as acute rhinitis, chronic rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis and allergic rhinitis. However, the underlying mechanisms of BLG against these diseases are not fully understood. This study aimed to explore the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of BLG, and examine its protective effects on mouse acute lung injury (ALI). The hot plate test and acetic acid-induced writhing assay in Kunming mice were adopted to evaluate the pain-relieving effects of BLG. The anti-inflammatory activities of BLG were determined by examining the effects of BLG on xylene-caused ear swelling in Kunming mice, the cotton pellet-induced granuloma in rats, carrageenan-induced hind paw edema and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in mice. The results showed that BLG at 15.5 mg/g could significantly relieve the pain by 82.5% (P<0.01) at 1 h after thermal stimulation and 91.2% (P<0.01) at 2 h after thermal stimulation. BLG at doses of 7.75 and 15.5 mg/g reduced the writhing count up to 33.3% (P<0.05) and 53.4% (P<0.01), respectively. Additionally, the xylene-induced edema in mice was markedly restrained by BLG at 7.75 mg/g (P<0.05) and 15.5 mg/g (P<0.01). BLG at 5.35 and 10.7 mg/g significantly reduced paw edema by 34.8% (P<0.05) and 37.9% (P<0.05) at 5 h after carrageenan injection. The granulomatous formation of the cotton pellet was profoundly suppressed by BLG at 2.68, 5.35 and 10.7 mg/g by 15.4%, 38.2% (P<0.01) and 58.9% (P<0.001), respectively. BLG also inhibited lung W/D ratio and the release of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in ALI mice. In addition, the median lethal dose (LD50), median effective dose (ED50) and half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of BLG were found to be 42.7, 3.2 and 12.33 mg/g, respectively. All the findings suggest that BLG has significantly anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and it may help reduce the damage of ALI.

RESUMO

The shape and structure of granules are controlled by the granulation process, which is one of the main factors to determine the nature of the solid dosage forms. In this article, three kinds of granules of a traditional Chinese medicine for improving appetite and promoting digestion, namely, Jianwei Granules, were prepared using granulation technologies as pendular granulation, high speed stirring granulation, and fluidized bed granulation and the powder properties of them were investigated. Meanwhile, synchrotron radiation X-ray computed micro tomography (SR-µCT) was applied to quantitatively determine the irregular internal structures of the granules. The three-dimensional (3D) structure models were obtained by 3D reconstruction, which were more accurately to characterize the three-dimensional structures of the particles through the quantitative data. The models were also used to quantitatively compare the structural differences of granules prepared by different granulation processes with the same formula, so as to characterize how the production process plays a role in the pharmaceutical behaviors of the granules. To focus on the irregularity of the particle structure, the box counting method was used to calculate the fractal dimensions of the granules. The results showed that the fractal dimension is more sensitive to reflect the minor differences in the structure features than the conventional parameters, and capable to specifically distinct granules in structure. It is proved that the fractal dimension could quantitatively characterize the structural information of irregular granules. It is the first time suggested by our research that the fractal dimension difference (Df,c) between two fractal dimension parameters, namely, the volume matrix fractal dimension and the surface matrix fractal dimension, is a new index to characterize granules with irregular structures and evaluate the effects of production processes on the structures of granules as a new indicator for the granulating process control and optimization.

RESUMO

Given the importance of finding alternatives to synthetic fungicides, the antifungal effects of natural product citral on six plant pathogenic fungi (Magnaporthe grisea, Gibberella zeae, Fusarium oxysporum, Valsa mali, Botrytis cinerea, and Rhizoctonia solani) were determined. Mycelial growth rate results showed that citral possessed high antifungal activities on those test fungi with EC50 values ranging from 39.52 to 193.00 µg/mL, which had the highest inhibition rates against M. grisea. Further action mechanism of citral on M. grisea was carried out. Citral treatment was found to alter the morphology of M. grisea hyphae by causing a loss of cytoplasm and distortion of mycelia. Moreover, citral was able to induce an increase in chitinase activity in M. grisea, indicating disruption of the cell wall. These results indicate that citral may act by disrupting cell wall integrity and membrane permeability, thus resulting in physiology changes and causing cytotoxicity. Importantly, the inhibitory effect of citral on M. grisea appears to be associated with its effects on mycelia reducing sugar, soluble protein, chitinase activity, pyruvate content, and malondialdehyde content.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Maqian (Zanthoxylum myriacanthum var. pubescens Huang) is widely consumed as an indigenous remedy for digestive disorders, detoxification, detumescence and analgesia by the ethnic groups in Xishuangbanna, SW China. A related species, Huajiao (Zanthoxylum schinifolium Sieb. et Zucc.), has similar uses in traditional Chinese medicine. We aimed to scientifically validate the traditional uses by investigating and comparing the chemical composition, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of the essential oils of Maqian and Huajiao. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Essential oils were collected from the fruits of Maqian and Huajiao by simultaneous distillation extraction and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. To assess antimicrobial activity, the minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) against 7 microbial strains, including 5 food-borne pathogens, were evaluated by serial dilution with a standardized microdilution broth methodology. For anti-inflammatory activity, the cell viability and nitric oxide (NO) production were determined on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells by MTS assay and the Griess reagent system, respectively. RESULTS: The essential oil from Maqian is rich in limonene (67.06%) and has strong antimicrobial activity against the tested pathogens and spoilage organisms, with MIC ranging from 64 to1024µg/ml and MBC ranging from 64 to 2048µg/ml. It also showed anti-inflammatory activity by significantly inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) production induced by LPS in RAW 264.7 cells at 0.04‰ without effects on cell viability. Furthermore, it showed relatively stronger antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities than the essential oil from Huajiao. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings not only justify the use of Maqian as an indigenous remedy for digestive disorders, detoxification, detumescence and analgesia, but also suggest that it could be promoted as a preferred substitute for Huajiao.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of a natural swelling matrix derived from boat-fruited sterculia seed (SMS) as the propellant of osmotic pump tablets. The sugar components, static swelling, water uptake and viscosity of SMS were determined and compared with that of polythylene oxide (WSR-N10 and WSR-303). Both ribavirin and glipizide were used as water-soluble and water-insoluble model drugs. Then, the monolayer osmotic pump tablets of ribavirin and the bilayer osmotic pump tablets of glipizide were prepared using SMS as the osmotically active substance and propellant. SMS was mainly composed of rhamnose, arabinose, xylose and galactose and exhibited relatively high swelling ability. The area of the disintegrated matrix tablet was 20.1 times as that at initial after swelling for 600 s. SMS swelled rapidly and was fully swelled (0.5%) in aqueous solution with relative low viscosity (3.66 +/- 0.03) mPa x s at 25 degrees C. The monolayer osmotic pump tablets of ribavirin and the bilayer osmotic pump tablets of glipizide using SMS as propellant exhibited typical drug release features of osmotic pumps. In conclusion, the swelling matrix derived from boat-fruited sterculia seed, with low viscosity and high swelling, is a potential propellant in the application of osmotic pump tablets.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of additional complex fractionated atrial electrogram (CFAE) ablation after pulmonary vein antrum isolation (PVAI) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to assess the additional efficacy of CFAEs ablation after a single procedure without antiarrhythmic drugs. METHODS AND RESULTS: Trials were identified in MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Embase, Google Scholar, reviews, and reference lists of relevant papers. Controlled cohort studies comparing the long-term efficacy of combined CFAEs plus PVAI ablation with PVAI alone were included. The primary end point was the maintenance of sinus rhythm without antiarrhythmic drugs. Seven controlled trials (9 comparisons) with a total of 622 participants (332 patients underwent PVAI plus CFAE ablation and 330 patients underwent PVAI alone) were included in the meta-analysis. In an overall pooled estimate, compared with PVI alone, long-term rates of sinus rhythm maintenance (relative risk, 1.17, 95% confidence interval, 1.03 to 1.33, P=0.019) were increased by additional CFAE ablation. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that additional CFAEs ablation increased rates of sinus rhythm maintenance in nonparoxysmal AF (relative risk, 1.35; 95% confidence interval, 1.04 to 1.75; P=0.022), whereas had no effect on patients with paroxysmal AF (relative risk, 1.04; 95% confidence interval, 0.92 to 1.18; P=0.528). CONCLUSIONS: Adjuvant CFAE ablation in addition to standard PVAI increases the rate of long-term sinus rhythm maintenance in nonparoxysmal AF patients after a single procedure without antiarrhythmic drugs but does not provide additional benefit to sinus rhythm maintenance in paroxysmal AF patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents of Humulus scandens. METHODS: The compounds were isolated by column chromatography on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20. The structures were identified by means of IR, 1H-NMR,13C-NMR and MS analyses. RESULTS: Seven compounds were isolated and identified as friedelanone (I), cis-asarone (II), epifriedelanol (III), stigmasta-4-ene-3,6-dione (IV), gamma-sitosterol (V), n-hexadecanoic acid (VI), and linoleic acid (VII), respectively. CONCLUSION: All compounds are isolated from this species for the first time and compounds I - V are obtained from this genus for the first time.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: In the interest of establish planting base of Angelica sinensis on a large scale, enhance economic benefit, and improve decision-making reasons, the eco-climatic applicability of A. sinensis was studied. METHOD: Using integral regression, eco-climatic applicability and the effect of meteorological conditions for the yield of A. sinensis' were analysed by field experimental data. RESULT: Selected > or =0 degrees C accumulated temperature and annual precipitation as leading index, altitude as assistant index, yield and rate of finished products as reference index, the integrated eco-climatic division index and the planting division applicability of A. sinensis was confirmed. CONCLUSION: Accordancing to theory of climate similitude and leading index summarisation, combining with assistant index and reference index, the integrated division index of eco-climate was confirmed. The planting division of co-climate applicability was divided into 5 grades as best suitable, suitable hypo-suitable, just suitable and no suitable regions. At the same time, the way to enhanced utilizing efficiency of eco-climate resources was brought forward.
