RESUMO

The directed construction of productive adsorbents is essential to avoid damaging human health from the harmful radioactive and toxic U(VI)-containing wastewater. Herein, a sort of Zr-based metal organic framework (MOF) called PCN-222 was synthesized and oxime functionalized based on directed molecular structure design to synthesize an efficient adsorbent with antimicrobial activity, named PCN-222-OM, for recovering U(VI) from wastewater. PCN-222-OM unfolded splendid adsorption capacity (403.4 mg·g-1) at pH = 6.0 because of abundant holey structure and mighty chelation for oxime groups with U(VI) ions. PCN-222-OM also exhibited outstanding selectivity and reusability during the adsorption. The XPS spectra authenticated the -NH and oxime groups which revealed a momentous function. Concurrently, PCN-222-OM also possessed good antimicrobial activity, antibiofouling activity, and environmental safety; adequately decreased detrimental repercussions about bacteria and Halamphora on adsorption capacity; and met non-toxic and non-hazardous requirements for the application. The splendid antimicrobial activity and antibiofouling activity perhaps arose from the Zr6(µ3-O)4(µ3-OH)4(H2O)4(OH)4 clusters and rich functional groups within PCN-222-OM. Originally proposed PCN-222-OM was one potentially propitious material to recover U(VI) in wastewater on account of outstanding adsorption capacity, antimicrobial activity, antibiofouling activity, and environmental safety, meanwhile providing a newfangled conception on the construction of peculiar efficient adsorbent.

The leaves of sea buckthorn(Hippophae rhamnoides), considered as common food raw materials, have records of medicinal use and diverse pharmacological activities, showing a potential medicinal value. However, the active substances in the sea buckthorn leaves and their mechanisms of action remain unclear. In addition, due to the extensive source and large variety variations, the quality evaluation criteria of sea buckthorn leaves remain to be developed. To solve the problems, this study predicted the main active components, core targets, key pathways, and potential pharmacological effects of sea buckthorn leaves by network pharmacology and molecular docking. Furthermore, ultra-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection(UPLC-DAD) was employed to determine the content of active components and establish the chemical fingerprint, on the basis of which the quality markers of sea buckthorn leaves were predicted and then verified by the enzyme activity inhibition method. The results indicated that sea buckthorn leaves had potential therapeutic effects on a variety of digestive tract diseases, metabolic diseases, tumors, and autoimmune diseases, which were consistent with the ancient records and the results of modern pharmacological studies. The core targets of sea buckthorn leaves included PTPN11, AKT1, PIK3R1, ESR1, and SRC, which were mainly involved in the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, and HIF-1 signaling pathways. In conclusion, the active components of sea buckthorn leaves are associated with the rich flavonoids and tannins, among which quercitrin, narcissoside, and ellagic acid can be used as the quality markers of sea buckthorn leaves. The findings provide a reference for the quality control and further development and utilization of sea buckthorn leaves as medicinal materials.

Practical adsorbents with high efficiency are essential to effectively treating wastewater. Herein, a novel porous uranium adsorbent (PA-HCP) having a considerable amount of amine and phosphoryl groups was designed and synthesized by grafting polyethyleneimine (PEI) on a hyper-cross-linked fluorene-9-bisphenol skeleton via phosphoramidate linkers. Furthermore, it was used to treat uranium contamination in the environment. PA-HCP exhibited a large specific surface area (up to 124 m2/g) and a pore diameter of 2.5 nm. Batch uranium adsorptions on PA-HCP were investigated methodically. PA-HCP demonstrated a uranium sorption capacity of >300 mg/g in the pH range of 4-10 (C0 = 60 mg/L, T = 298.15 K), with its maximum capacity reaching 573.51 mg/g at pH = 7. The uranium sorption process obeyed the pseudo-second-order model and fitted well with the Langmuir isothermal. In the thermodynamic experiments, uranium sorption on PA-HCP was revealed to be an endothermic, spontaneous process. Even in the presence of competing metal ions, PA-HCP exhibited excellent sorption selectivity for uranium. Additionally, excellent recyclability can be achieved after six cycles. Based on FT-IR and XPS measurements, both the PO and -NH2 (and/or -NH-) groups on PA-HCP contributed to efficient uranium adsorption as a result of the strong coordination between these groups and uranium. Furthermore, the high hydrophilicity of the grafted PEI improved the dispersion of the adsorbents in water and facilitated uranium sorption. These findings suggest that PA-HCP can be used as an efficient and economical sorbent to remove U(VI) from wastewater.

There are 500 species of Viola(Violaceae) worldwide, among which 111 species are widely distributed in China and have a long medicinal history and wide varieties. According to the authors' statistics, a total of 410 compounds have been isolated and identified from plants of this genus, including flavonoids, terpenoids, phenylpropanoids, organic acids, nitrogenous compounds, sterols, saccharides and their derivatives, volatile oils and cyclotides. The medicinal materials from these plants boast anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-oxidant and anti-tumor activities. This study systematically reviewed the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Viola plants to provide a basis for further research and clinical application.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Cymbaria daurica L. (C. daurica) is a perennial herb known commonly as "Xinba" (Chinese) and "Kanba-Arong" (Mongolian). In Mongolia, it is used as a traditional medicine to treat eczema and other skin diseases due to its anti-swelling, anti-inflammatory, anti-hemorrhagic, and anti-itching properties. However, the potential mechanism of action for eczema treatment has not been reported. AIM OF THE STUDY: To investigate the effect of C. daurica on 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNCB)-induced eczema in rats and the associated action mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Qualitative analysis of C. daurica was performed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Based on information obtained from compound identification and relevant literature, the possible targets of C. daurica against eczema were analyzed using network pharmacology and molecular docking methods. The DNCB-induced eczema rat models were treated with different dosages of C. daurica extract (10, 50, and 250 mg/mL per day), and the therapeutic effects subsequently evaluated based on the degree of skin inflammation, spleen index, and hematoxylin and eosin staining (H&E staining). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), and western blotting were used to analyze the relevant target effects. The C. daurica mechanism of action on eczema was verified by animal experiments. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was carried out to determine the content of active ingredients in C. daurica. In addition, the physicochemical properties of the extract were evaluated. RESULTS: Our analysis of the 173 targets included in the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network identified tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin 2 (IL-2) as key targets involved in the treatment of eczema with C. daurica extract. Furthermore, the 173 targets were associated with the natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity pathway. Our results showed that C. daurica significantly reduced IL-2 and TNF-α serum levels in eczema rat models (P < 0.0001); thus, playing an important role in the anti-inflammatory response. Furthermore, according to the p-value, RT-qPCR and western blotting showed that the expression of Src homology 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase 1 (SHP-1), Vav guanine nucleotide exchange factor (Vav), and growth factor receptor-bound protein 2 (Grb2) changed in the skin of the eczema model rats after treatment with the C. daurica extract. CONCLUSION: Our study confirms that C. daurica can inhibit SHP-1, Vav, and Grb2 expression; thereby, inhibiting the natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity pathway. These results provide insight into the mechanism of C. daurica in treating eczema.

Cardiovascular disease is the most common disease in the world and the first among the causes of human death. Its morbidity and mortality increase annually, but no effective treatment is available. Therefore, new drugs should be developed to treat cardiovascular disease. Gentianella acuta (Michx.) Hulten (G. acuta) is an important Mongolian medicine in China and elicits protective effects on cardiovascular health. In this study, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) combined with network pharmacology was used to screen the main active ingredients and confirm that bellidifolin was one of the main components for the treatment of ischemic heart disease. Then, rat myocardial (H9c2) cells injury model induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in vitro was established to verify the effect of bellidifolin on oxidative stress stimulation, including determination of antioxidant enzyme activity and apoptosis. Transcriptome sequencing, qRT-PCR, and western blot were performed to further verify the antioxidant stress mechanism of bellidifolin. Results showed that bellidifolin pretreatment decreased the rate of apoptosis and the levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Conversely, it increased the contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in a dose-dependent manner, indicating that bellidifolin caused a protective effect on cardiomyocyte injury. Bellidifolin minimized the H2O2-induced cell injury by activating the PI3K-Akt signal pathway and downregulating glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (GSK-3ß) and p-Akt1/Akt1. Therefore, this work revealed that G. acuta has a good development prospect as an edible medicinal plant in cardiovascular disease. Its bellidifolin component is a potential therapeutic agent for cardiovascular disease induced by oxidative stress damage.

Background: Skin carbuncle is a suppurative infection of adjacent multiple hair follicles and their surrounding tissues, mostly caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Skin carbuncle often occurs in the neck, the back, and other skin thicker parts. It can also spread to the subcutaneous tissue and cause extensive subcutaneous infection. It is especially common in people with low immunity such as diabetes, nephritis, and malnutrition. Patients and Methods: We reported four cases of carbuncle of the neck, three of which were treated with traditional Chinese medicine therapy based on fire needles combined with topical drugs, and the other one was treated by surgical incision and drainage, debridement, and dressing change. Results: All four cases achieved good therapeutic effects. The results showed that in the treatment of early carbuncle, compared with surgical treatment, fire needle therapy had less trauma, smaller prognosis scar, less cost, and faster recovery. However, when the carbuncle significantly expands or the deep tissue of the late carbuncle shows erosion necrosis, surgical debridement is necessary. Conclusion: The traditional Chinese medicine therapy based on the fire needle for the early treatment of carbuncle has important clinical significance, which is worthy of further study.

Periungual wart is a kind of verruca vulgaris that occurs alongside or underlying the nails, which is challenging to treat and prone to recurrence, seriously affecting the quality of patients' life. We report a 6-year-old boy with periungual warts who had experienced various treatments with no improvement and even worsening. Therefore, we tried to treat the patient with local hyperthermia which uses a patented device that has an infrared emission source. The heat generated by infrared rays acts on the local skin surface. The mechanism of this therapy may be to establish a specific immune response against human papillomavirus-infected tissues, thereby facilitating the clearance of human papillomavirus at irradiated and non-irradiated sites. Local hyperthermia has the advantages of non-contact, safety, noninvasive, less pain, and so on. After 5 treatments, the irradiated periungual warts completely cleared after 2 weeks. The unirradiated sites were almost cured after 7 weeks. This case suggests that local thermotherapy has shown great advantages in the treatment of these refractory periungual warts and offers a new and effective therapy in patients with periungual warts.

Medicinal plant diversity (MPD) is an important component of plant diversity. Over-collection based on medicinal and economic value has the potential to damage the stability of the regional ecosystem. It is important to understand the current distribution of MPD and the factors influencing it. However, it is still unclear whether environmental and socioeconomic conditions have an impact on their distribution. We selected the Inner Mongolia as a representative study area which covers a wide area, accounting for 12.29% of China's national land area and 0.79% of the world's land area. At the same time, the region is a long-standing traditional medicinal area for Mongolians in China. Therefore, the region is significantly influenced by changes in environmental factors and socio-economic factors. We used 9-years field survey of the distribution of medicinal plants in Inner Mongolia for assessing the distribution of MPD as influenced by environmental and socioeconomic activities by combining spatial analyses, species distribution models, and generalized additive models. The results from the spatial analysis show that the western region of Inner Mongolia is the main cold spot area of the MPD, and the central-eastern and northeastern regions of Inner Mongolia are the main hot spot areas of the MPD. At the same time, the distribution of cold spots and hot spots of MPD is more obvious at large spatial scales, and with the refinement of spatial scales, the cold spots in scattered areas are gradually revealed, which is indicative for the conservation and development of MPD at different spatial scales. Under the future climate change of shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP), areas with high habitat suitability for medicinal plants remain mainly dominated by the Yellow River, Yin Mountains, and Greater Khingan Range. Notably, the SSP245 development pathway remains the most significant concern in either long- or short-term development. The nonlinear relationship between the driving factors of MPD at different spatial scales shows that temperature, precipitation and socioeconomic development do have complex effects on MPD. The presence of a certain temperature, altitude, and precipitation range has an optimal facilitation effect on MPD, rather than a single facilitation effect. This complex nonlinear correlation provides a reference for further studies on plant diversity and sustainable development and management. In this study, the spatial distribution of medicinal plant resources and the extent to which they are driven by ecological and socioeconomic factors were analyzed through a macroscopic approach. This provides a reference for larger-scale studies on the environmental and socioeconomic influences on the distribution of plant resources.

Objective: Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng in Chinese), the roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata, lacks commodity specification and grade standardization in the current market. This study investigated the existing specifications and grades of Saposhnikoviae Radix to provide a standardized scientific reference for its market use. Methods: Based on a textual research of Chinese herbal medicine from the Han Dynasty to the present, medicinal materials of different specifications and grades obtained from Saposhnikoviae Radix in the main producing areas of China were collected and the markets for these materials were investigated. Field investigations were performed in the major producing areas such as Northeast China, Hebei Province, and Inner Mongolia. Four major Chinese herbal medicine markets in China were investigated. Sensory indices were used to categorize the two specifications (wild and cultivated) according to the shape, color, texture, and cross-section. High-performance liquid chromatography was performed to determine the active components. Vernier calipers and measuring tape were used to measure the diameter and length, respectively, of 41 samples. Using Excel and the R Language software, cluster analysis and descriptive statistical analysis were performed to assist in the application of new specifications and grades based on physical characteristics, pharmacological activity, and chemical composition. Results: The two specifications (wild and cultivated) of Saposhnikoviae Radix were divided into three grades each based on the length and diameter. Prim-O-glucosylcimifugin, 5-O-methylvisamminoside, and the length of Saposhnikoviae Radix can be used as a basis for classifying the commodity specifications and grades. The specifications and grade standards of Saposhnikoviae Radix were established based on the following eight aspects: shape, surface characteristics, texture, cross section, taste, prim-O-glucosylcimifugin content, 5-O-methylvisamminoside content and length. Conclusion: The formulation of this standard stipulates the commodity specification level of Saposhnikoviae Radix. It is also suitable for the evaluation of commodity specifications in the process of production, circulation and use of Saposhnikoviae Radix.

As global health care demand continues to increase, medicinal plant productivity must progress without exhausting critical environmental resources. Hence, it is important to explore practices that can improve the quality, safety, and sustainability of medicinal plants, as well as ecological stability. Organic farming has recently gained significance as a sustainable cultivation alternative owing to increased awareness of the adverse effects of conventional cultivation method. Here, this study aimed to investigate the feasibility of organic farming as a solution for sustainable cultivation of medicinal plants from multiple perspectives and long-term benefits to the environment. Organic agricultural practices of medicinal plants were evaluated from a multi-dimensional perspective (environment, economy, and society) using extensive research data and literature and field surveys. Data from medicinal plant cultivation in Inner Mongolia were acquired for 76 sites from four data stations between 2014 and 2021. Data analysis revealed that organic medicinal plants can improve safety by reducing pesticide exposure risks. Simultaneously, organic agriculture of medicinal plants can improve biodiversity by effectively reducing pesticide and fertilizer use, which also provides natural safe products for health care. With the improvement of quality, the retail price will have a certain advantage, which will improve the income of farmers. Moreover, organic agriculture enhanced profitability because of the higher organic premium on medicinal plant products and improved ecosystem stability by increasing plant diversity. The findings of this study suggest that organic cultivation strategies can improve the quality and safety of medicinal plants and further provide a basis for promoting the sustainable development and ecological stability of medicinal plants. However, not all medicinal plant cultivators are guaranteed to adopt organic farming practices, but if all technological elements are correctly applied, the system can be maintained sustainably to expand the area of organically cultivated plants in the future.

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is a widely used alternative and complementary therapy. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an important technique to explore the underlying mechanism of acupuncture, and the task-based fMRI can reflect the instant effects or sustained effects of acupuncture in the brain. This scoping review aims to summarize the characteristics of acupuncture mechanism studies employing task-based fMRI and conclude a reference for future studies. METHODS/DESIGN: This review will follow the Guidance for Conducting Scoping Reviews. Eligible articles will be collected from 7 databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CNKI, WanFang, VIP, and CBM) with the related keywords such as "Acupuncture" and "fMRI"; those articles should be published from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2021; and the language should be restricted in English or Chinese. Each research step will involve at least two reviewers. The PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews) will be used to organize the review. Data will be extracted from the illegible articles, and findings will be presented in tables and narrative form. A descriptive qualitative approach to analysis will be conducted to form the scoping review. DISCUSSION: This review aims to clarify the extent of acupuncture mechanism studies employing task-based fMRI. It is supposed to make a critical evaluation or propose quality requirements for future studies by summarizing the objectives and designs of eligible studies. Herein, a dual-function Zeolitic Imidazole Frameworks (ZIFs) ZIF-90 grafted with malononitrile by Knoevenagel reaction and following with an amidoximation reaction to form an efficient U (VI) adsorbent (ZIF-90-AO). The strong chelation power of amidoxime groups (AO) with uranium and ZIF-90's mesoporous structure afforded ZIF-90-AO high maximum uranium adsorption capacity of 468.3 mg/g (pH = 5). In addition, the factors affecting uranium adsorption process were investigated by a batch of adsorption tests under different adsorption conditions. ZIF-90-AO displayed good selectivity to UO22+ in the solution containing multiple co-existing ions and good regeneration property. More importantly, ZIF-90-AO showed excellent antimicrobial property against both E. coli and S. aureus. Therefore, ZIF-90-AO is a U-adsorbent with great application value for removing U (VI) from wastewater due to the high U (VI) adsorption capacity in weak acid condition and good anti-biofouling properties.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of Panlong (dragon-like) acupuncture combined with Xingnao Kaiqiao (regaining consciousness and opening orifice) acupuncture on post-stroke fatigue. METHODS: Sixty patients with post-stroke fatigue were randomly divided into an observation group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off) and a control group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped off). The patients in the control group were treated with Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture at Neiguan (PC 6), Shuigou (GV 26), etc. for 30 min; based on the treatment of the control group, the patients in the observation group were treated with Panlong acupuncture at Jiaji (EX-B 2) of T1 to L5 for 15 min. The two groups were treated once a day, 6 times a week, for a total of 4 weeks. The scores of fatigue assessment instrument (FAI), energy of stroke-specific quality of life (SS-QOL), and modified Barthel index (MBI) in the two groups were compared before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated. RESULTS: Compared before treatment, the total score and each item score of FAI in the observation group were reduced after treatment (P<0.05), while the total score and FAI-1 and FAI-4 scores in the control group were reduced after treatment (P<0.05). The total score of FAI and FAI-1, FAI-2 and FAI-4 scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the SS-QOL energy scores and MBI scores of the two groups were increased compared before treatment (P<0.05), and the SS-QOL energy score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). The total effective rate was 72.4% (21/29) in the observation group, which was better than 46.4% (13/28) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The Panlong acupuncture combined with Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture could effectively alleviate the fatigue symptoms and improve quality of life in patients with post-stroke fatigue.

RESUMO

Medicinal plants have provided numerous medicinal active ingredients for thousands of years and these ingredients have been used in Chinese medicine (CM) and traditional pharmacologies worldwide. Recently, the exploitation and utilisation of medicinal plant resources has increased significantly. The results of the studies have led to the identification of many active components, such as steroidal alkaloids, saponins, terpenoids, and glycosides, in various medicinal plants with different evolutionary levels. Moreover, research on the chemical classification, molecular phylogeny, and pharmacological activity of medicinal plants is increasing in popularity. Pharmacophylogeny is an interdisciplinary topic that studies the correlation between plant phylogeny, chemical composition, and curative effects (pharmacological activity and the traditional curative effect) of medicinal plants. In addition, it provides the basic tools to enable research and development of CM resources. This literature review, based on the genetic relationship between phytogroup and species, highlights the formation process, research content, applications, and future directions of pharmacophylogeny.

Gentiana dahurica Fisch. is a characteristic medicinal plant found in Inner Mongolia, China. To meet the increase in market demand and promote the development of medicinal plant science, we explored the influence of the environment on its distribution and the quantity of its active compounds (loganic acid and 6'-O-ß-D-glucosylgentiopicroside) to find suitable cultivation areas for G. dahurica. Based on the geographical distribution of G. dahurica in Inner Mongolia and the ecological factors that affect its growth, identified from the literature and field visits, a boosted regression tree (BRT) was used to model ecologically suitable areas in the region. The relationship between the content of each of active compound in the plant and ecological factors was also established for Inner Mongolia using linear regression. The results showed that elevation and soil type had the most significant influence on the distribution of G. dahurica-their relative contribution was 30.188% and 28.947%, respectively. The factors that had the greatest impact on the distribution of high-quality G. dahurica were annual precipitation, annual mean temperature, and temperature seasonality. The results of BRT and linear regression modeling showed that suitable areas for high-quality G. dahurica included eastern Ordos, southern Baotou, Hohhot, southern Wulanchabu, southern Xilin Gol, and central Chifeng. However, there were no significant correlations between the contents of loganic acid and 6'-O-ß-D-glucosylgentiopicroside and the ecological factors. This study explored the influence of the environment on the growth and quantity of active compounds in G. dahurica to provide guidance for coordinating the development of medicinal plant science.

BACKGROUND: Uncomplicated skin abscesses are collections of pus within the skin structure and are usually caused by bacterial infections. Clinically, they are quite common and inevitably affect people of any age. The current management strategies comprise prompt initiation of antibiotics and incision and drainage. However, pain and the long healing process of skin lesions can cause distress to a lot of patients. Fire needling is a characteristic treatment in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has proven effective in treating skin abscesses. Moreover, fire needle therapy has a more desirable cosmetic outcome in contrast to surgical debridement. The purpose of the study is to demonstrate the rapid, effective, minimally invasive, and better cosmetic outcomes of fire needles in the treatment of uncomplicated skin abscesses. METHODS: A total of 10 patients, aged between 1 and 45 years, with skin abscesses, were recruited. All patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria with lesions less than 4 cm in diameter were topically treated with mupirocin ointment twice a day after fire needle therapy. If the lesion was still purulent after 2 days, it was treated again with fire needle therapy. The efficacy was assessed by a 4-grade scale at 2 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 12 weeks post-fire needling. RESULTS: Lesions with a diameter of less than 2 cm achieved significant remission (SR) or partial remission (PR), after 2 days post-treatment and reached complete remission (CR) or significant remission (SR) after 1 week following treatment. Meanwhile, lesions with a diameter of 2-4 cm achieved PR after 2 days and were assessed as CR or SR 1 week after post-fire needle therapy. None of the patients had a recurrence within 12 weeks after treatment. CONCLUSION: Fire needle therapy is a promising treatment method for uncomplicated skin abscesses smaller than 4 cm, which warrants further in-depth and more large-scale studies.

Uranium (U) is hazardous and radioactive, wastewater containing U(VI) should be treated before being discharged. Here, two novel uranium adsorbents, phosphorylated hyper-cross-linked bisphenol A (PHCP-1) and fluorene-9-bisphenol (PHCP-2) were separately synthesized via Friedel-Crafts reaction followed by phosphorylation using phosphorus oxychloride. PHCPs had a BET surface area (up to 564 m2/g) with pore sizes of 2.2-2.8 nm. These adsorbents were used for the first time for uranium adsorption from water and demonstrated outstanding adsorption performance. PHCP-2 had a great uranium adsorption capacity (297.14 mg/g) and a very fast sorption rate (85% removal rate within 5 min). The adsorption data were well fitted with Freundlich isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. PHCPs displayed selective adsorption capacity for U(VI) from solution that including a variety of competing metal ions. The reusability was confirmed through three regeneration cycles. Based on a series of spectroscopic analyses, the mechanism of action between PHCPs and U(VI) is primarily derived from the complex between phosphate functional groups and U (VI). The sorption performance of PHCPs is attributed to their huge specific surface area and the strong complex between phosphate groups and U(VI). These findings suggest that PHCPs could be useful in the effective adsorption of uranium from water.

Owing to modern developments in the traditional medicine industry, more people now acknowledge the efficacy of traditional medicine. As the demand for herbal medicines gradually increases, the focus of the industry will shift to how to increase production while maintaining the high quality of raw materials and final products to promote the international trade in herbal medicines. In the long history of herbal medicine, many countries and regions have formulated relevant standards to regulate the cultivation of local herbs to ensure the safety and reliability of the products. Due to cultural and historical differences, the policies for formulating herbal cultivation standards vary greatly between regions, which hinders the international trade of herbal medicines. This paper collates the guidelines of good agricultural and collection practices of the European Union, China, World Health Organization and the United States, and makes a comprehensive comparison of its contents such as production environments, production area suitability, air, soil, and water standard regulations, inter alia. This article aims to explore the differences in good agriculture and collection practice in herbal medicine in various regions and provides a reference for the development of international guidelines for herbal quality management, which will aid with the development of herbal medicine quality standardization globally and exchange services in the trade of herbal medicines.

Traditional herbal medicine (THM) is an important part of the traditional Chinese medicine culture. Due to its high medicinal potential, it should not only serve for the Chinese people's medical use, but also contribute to the world medicine, THM for the international market must be standardized and large-scale, and produced according to the "Good Agriculture Practice" (GAP). The quality of THM directly affects the patient's treatment status and safety of use. Therefore, the quality assurance of THM runs through the entire process of research and development, production and clinical practice. The standardized production and cultivation of THM is the starting point of the THM industry chain and plays a decisive role in the economic development of the THM industry. This article summarizes the development history, limitations and future development of GAP, and clarifies the opportunities for THM in the rapid development of the international and domestic Chinese medicine industry. In addition, analyzing the deficiencies that were existing in the former GAP implementation process and by suggesting science-based quality measures, it is hoped to stipulate improved GAP guidelines in the future and to lay the foundation for a modern THM international trade.
