Cancer cells develop multiple strategies to evade T cell-mediated killing. On one hand, cancer cells may preferentially rely on certain amino acids for rapid growth and metastasis. On the other hand, sufficient nutrient availability and uptake are necessary for mounting an effective T cell anti-tumor response in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here we demonstrate that tumor cells outcompete T cells for cystine uptake due to high Slc7a11 expression. This competition induces T-cell exhaustion and ferroptosis, characterized by diminished memory formation and cytokine secretion, increased PD-1 and TIM-3 expression, as well as intracellular oxidative stress and lipid-peroxide accumulation. Importantly, either Slc7a11 deletion in tumor cells or intratumoral cystine supplementation improves T cell anti-tumor immunity. Mechanistically, cystine deprivation in T cells disrupts glutathione synthesis, but promotes CD36 mediated lipid uptake due to dysregulated cystine/glutamate exchange. Moreover, enforced expression of glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (Gclc) promotes glutathione synthesis and prevents CD36 upregulation, thus boosting T cell anti-tumor immunity. Our findings reveal cystine as an intracellular metabolic checkpoint that orchestrates T-cell survival and differentiation, and highlight Gclc as a potential therapeutic target for enhancing T cell anti-tumor function.

A nucleic acid aptamer based thermally oxidized porous silicon/zinc oxide microarray chip was constructed for the detection of ochratoxin A. The hybrid chains formed by aptamer and complementary chains labeled with fluorescent groups and fluorescent burst groups were used as recognition molecules, and the detection of toxins was accomplished on the chip by the principle of fluorescence signal burst and recovery. The modified QuEChERS method was used for sample pretreatment and the performance of the method was evaluated. The results showed that the linear range was 0.02 â¼ 200 ng/kg with the detection limit of 0.0196 ng/kg under the optimal detection conditions. The method was applied to different cereals with the recoveries of 90.30 â¼ 111.69 %. The developed microarray chip has the advantages of being cost-effective, easy to prepare, sensitive and specific, and can provide a new method for the detection of other toxins.

The study aimed to explore the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic alterations of the active components of Shenkang injection (i.e. hydroxy saffron yellow pigment A [HSYA], tanshinol, rheum emodin, and astragaloside IV) in rats with chronic renal failure (CRF), and establish a pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic model (PK-PD model) in order to provide a scientific and theoretical basis for the rational clinical use of Shenkang injection. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a normal group, model group, and Shenkang injection group. A rat model of CRF was induced by adenine gavage and then followed by drug administration via tail vein injection. Orbital blood was collected at different timepoints and the blood concentrations of the four active components were measured by UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS. Serum levels of creatinine (Scr), urea nitrogen (BUN), and uric acid (UA) were determined using an automatic biochemical analyzer. A PK-PD model was established, and DAS 3.2.6 software was used for model fitting as well as statistical analysis. TGF-ß1 was utilized to induce normal rat kidney cells to construct a renal fibrosis model to investigate the protective effect of the pharmacological components on renal fibrosis. The pharmacokinetic analysis of hydroxy saffron yellow pigment A, tanshinol, rheum emodin, and astragaloside IV based on UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS was stable. The linear regression equations for the four active components were as follows: Y = 0.031X + 0.0091 (R2 = 0.9986) for hydroxy saffron yellow pigment A, Y = 0.0389X + 0.164 (R2 = 0.9979) for tanshinol, Y = 0.0257X + 0.0146 (R2 = 0.9973) for rheum emodin, and Y = 0.0763X + 0.0139 (R2 = 0.9993) for astragaloside IV, which indicated good linear relationships. The methodological investigation was stable, with the interday and intraday precision RSD <10%. Meanwhile, the recoveries ranged between 90% and 120%, in accordance with the requirements for in vivo analysis of drugs. Compared with the model group, the levels of Scr, BUN, and UA were significantly decreased after 20 min in the Shenkang injection group (p < 0.01). The PK-PD model showed that the four active components in the Shenkang injection group could fit well with the three effect measures (i.e. Scr, BUN, and UA), with the measured values similar to the predicted values. The cell model of renal fibrosis showed that the connective tissue growth factor and FN1 protein expression levels were significantly lower in the Shenkang injection group than those in the model group, and the cell fibrosis was improved. The established method for in vivo analysis of Shenkang injection was highly specific, with good separation of the components and simple operation. The total statistical moment could well integrate the pharmacokinetic parameters of the four active components. After treatment with Shenkang injection, all indexes in the administered group improved and showed significant inhibition of renal cell fibrosis in vitro. This study could provide scientific reference ideas for the clinical rational use of traditional Chinese medicine.

Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury can result in different levels of cerebral impairment, and in severe cases, death. Curcumin, an essential bioactive component of turmeric, has a rich history as a traditional medicine for various ailments in numerous countries. Experimental and clinical research has established that curcumin offers a protective effect against cerebral I/R injury. Curcumin exerts its protective effects by acting on specific mechanisms such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, inhibition of ferroptosis and pyroptosis, protection of mitochondrial function and structure, reduction of excessive autophagy, and improvement of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which ultimately help to preserve the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and reducing apoptosis. There is currently a shortage of drugs undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of cerebral I/R injury, highlighting the pressing need for research and development of novel treatments to address this injury. Deep learning has been applied to the recognition of motor imagery electroencephalograms (MI-EEG) in brain-computer interface, and the performance results depend on data representation as well as neural network structure. Especially, MI-EEG is so complex with the characteristics of non-stationarity, specific rhythms, and uneven distribution; however, its multidimensional feature information is difficult to be fused and enhanced simultaneously in the existing recognition methods. In this paper, a novel channel importance (NCI) based on time-frequency analysis is proposed to develop an image sequence generation method (NCI-ISG) for enhancing the integrity of data representation and highlighting the contribution inequalities of different channels as well. Each electrode of MI-EEG is converted to a time-frequency spectrum by utilizing short-time Fourier transform; the corresponding part to 8-30 Hz is combined with random forest algorithm for computing NCI; and it is further divided into three sub-images covered by α (8-13 Hz), ß1 (13-21 Hz), and ß2 (21-30 Hz) bands; their spectral powers are further weighted by NCI and interpolated to 2-dimensional electrode coordinates, producing three main sub-band image sequences. Then, a parallel multi-branch convolutional neural network and gate recurrent unit (PMBCG) is designed to successively extract and identify the spatial-spectral and temporal features from the image sequences. Two public four-class MI-EEG datasets are adopted; the proposed classification method respectively achieves the average accuracies of 98.26% and 80.62% by 10-fold cross-validation experiment; and its statistical performance is also evaluated by multi-indexes, such as Kappa value, confusion matrix, and ROC curve. Extensive experiment results show that NCI-ISG + PMBCG can yield great performance on MI-EEG classification compared to state-of-the-art methods. The proposed NCI-ISG can enhance the feature representation of time-frequency-space domains and match well with PMBCG, which improves the recognition accuracies of MI tasks and demonstrates the preferable reliability and distinguishable ability. Given the carbon limitation of municipal wastewater, the balance of biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal remains a challenging task. In this study, an anaerobic-anoxic-oxic combining with biological contact oxidation (A2/O-BCO) system treating real municipal wastewater was operated for 205 days, and COD-to-PO43--P ratio was confirmed as the key parameter for balancing denitrifying phosphorus-accumulating organisms (DPAOs) and denitrifying glycogen-accumulating organisms (DGAOs) to enhance N and P removal. When DPAOs dominated in nutrients removal, the increase in COD/P from 17.1 to 38.1 caused the deterioration in nitrogen removal performance decreasing to 71.8 %. As COD/P ratio decreased from 81.3 to 46.8, Ca.Competibacter proliferated from 3.11 % to 6.00 %, contributing to 58.9 % of nitrogen removal. The nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency reached up to 79.3 % and 95.2 %. Overall, establishing DGAOs-DPAOs balance by strengthening the effect of DGAOs could enhance the nutrients removal performance and accordingly improve the stability and efficiency of the system.

BACKGROUND: Coronary thrombosis and its correlated disorders are main healthcare problems globally. The therapeutic effects of current treatments involving antiplatelet drugs are not fully satisfactory. Danshensu (DSS) is an important monomer obtained from Salvia miltiorrhiza roots that have been widely employed for vascular diseases in medicinal practices. Nonetheless, the underlying mechanisms of DSS are not fully unraveled. PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to penetrate the antithrombotic and antiplatelet mechanisms of DSS. METHODS: Network pharmacology assay was used to forecast the cellular mechanisms of DSS for treating thrombosis. The work focused the impacts of DSS on platelet activation by analyzing aggregation and adhesion in vitro. Flow cytometry, western blotting, CM-H2DCFDA staining and mitochondrial function assays were performed to reveal the molecular mechanisms. The model of common carotid artery thrombus induced by ferric chloride was established. The wet weight of thrombus was measured, and the thrombosis was observed by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, in order to support the inhibitory effect of DSS on thrombosis. RESULTS: Data mining found the antithrombotic effect of DSS is related to platelet activation and the core target is silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1). We confirmed that DSS dose-dependently inhibited platelet activation in vitro. DSS was further demonstrated to induce the expression of SIRT1 and decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) burden and thereby prevented mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondrial function tests further indicated that DSS prevented mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) release, which induced activation of platelet in a dendritic cell specific intercellular-adhesion-molecule-3 grabbing non-integrin (DC-SIGN)-dependent manner. In carotid artery injury model induced by ferric chloride, DSS inhibited the development of carotid arterial thrombosis. More encouragingly, in tail bleeding time assay, DSS did not augment bleeding risk. CONCLUSION: These findings indicated that DSS effectively inhibited platelet activation by depressing the collection of ROS and the release of platelet mtDNA without arousing hemorrhage risk. DSS might represent a promising candidate drug for thrombosis and cardiovascular disease therapeutics.

We designed a metal-free synthesis of carbon nanofiber based on ketene chemistry using phosphorus pentoxide (P2 O5 ) and vegetable oil. Based on the characterization of intermediates, P2 O5 -oil reaction yielded most possibly alkylketenes, which polymerized into poly(ketene) with abundant enol groups. The enol groups further reacted with P2 O5 , forcing the poly(ketene) to assemble into a nano-sized preassembly structure. Moderate heating transforms these structures into carbonaceaus nanofibers. This approach is applicable to other chemicals with similar structure to vegetable oil. The carbon nanofibers with P-O-C functionalization show relatively high graphitization degree and promising textural properties. The C-O-P environment accounts for 66â at % of the total P and creates a superior thermal stability. As a model application, a CDI system built of a carbon-nanofiber-based electrode countered by an activated carbon-based electrode exhibited exceptional performance.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Despite multiple interventions, the incidence of chronic pain after mastectomy could be as high as 50% after surgery. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) before anesthesia induction in reducing chronic pain and to compare the effect of combined acupoint TEAS with that of single acupoint TEAS. DESIGN: A multicenter randomized clinical trial. SETTING: The study was conducted at six medical centers in China from May 2016 to April 2018. Final follow-up was on October 26, 2018. PARTICIPANTS: Eligible patients were women scheduled for radical mastectomy under general anesthesia. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were randomly and equally grouped into sham control (n = 188), single acupoint (PC6, n = 198), or combined acupoints (PC6 and CV17, n = 190) TEAS groups using a centralized computer-generated randomization system. TEAS was applied for 30 min before anesthesia induction. The sham-operated control group received electrode attachment but without stimulation. Anesthesiologists, surgeons, and outcome assessors were blinded to the interventions. MEASURES: The primary endpoint was the incidence of chronic pain 6 months after surgery. Incidences were compared among the groups using the unadjusted χ2 test. RESULTS: Of the 576 randomized patients, 568 completed the trial. In the intention-to-treat analysis, post-mastectomy pain at 6 months was reported in 42 of 190 patients (22.1%) in the combined acupoints group, 65 of 188 patients (34.6%) in the sham-operated group (P = 0.007; relative risk [RR], 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.68, 0.52-0.89), and 72 of 198 patients (36.4%) in the single acupoint group (P = 0.002; RR, 95% CI: 0.72, 0.55-0.93). Remifentanil consumption during surgery and postoperative nausea and vomiting at 24 h after surgery were lower in the combined acupoint group than that in the sham-operated group. CONCLUSION: TEAS at combined acupoints before surgery was associated with reduced chronic pain 6 months after surgery. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT02741726. Rauvolfia vomitoria is widely distributed in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia, and has been used in traditional folk medicine in China. Indole alkaloids were found to be major bioactive components, while the effects of diabetes mellitus on the pharmacokinetic parameters of the components have not been reflected in vivo. In this study, an efficient and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of five ingredients of R. vomitoria in rats. Detection was implemented in multiple-reaction-monitoring mode with an electrospray positive-ionization source. Validation parameters were all in accordance with the current criterion. The established method was effectively employed to compare the pharmacokinetic behaviors of five alkaloids (reserpine, yohimbine, ajmaline, ajmalicine, and serpentine) between normal and type 2 diabetic rats. The single-dose pharmacokinetic parameters of the five alkaloids were determined in normal and diabetic rats after oral administration of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight. The results indicated that diabetes mellitus significantly altered the pharmacokinetic characteristics of yohimbine, ajmaline, and ajmalicine after oral administration in rats. This is an attempt to provide some evidence for clinicians that may serve as a guide for the use of antidiabetic medicine in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common cause of end-stage renal failure. Grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) is a powerful antioxidant that is believed to protect the kidney through antioxidant action. However, the underlying mechanism of GSPE protection against DN remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To explore if GSPE can improve DN by activating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) antioxidant response element signalling and to clarify its possible mechanism. Materials and methods. Ten healthy Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly selected as controls. Rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were randomly divided into three groups (10 animals/group): type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) group (untreated), L-GSPE group (treated with 125-mg/kg/day GSPE for 8 weeks), and H-GSPE group (treated with 250 mg/kg/day GSPE for 8 weeks). RESULTS: Renal histopathological results indicated limited pathological damage in GSPE-treated groups. Compared with the T2DM group, the H-GSPE group had significantly reduced kidney weight and renal index. Similarly, the levels of fasting blood glucose, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, urinary albumin, and renal malondialdehyde (p < 0.05) were also significantly decreased. In addition, GSPE significantly increased the levels of superoxide dismutase, total antioxidative capability, and glutathione (p < 0.05) as well as the protein levels of Nrf2, HO-1, glutathione S-transferase, and NAD (P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results indicate that GSPE reduced renal damage in rats with diabetes by activating the Nrf2 signalling pathway, which consequently increased the antioxidant capacity of the tissue. Therefore, GSPE is a potential natural agent for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

Context: Astragali Radix (AR) and Angelica sinensis Radix (ASR) combinations are used to treat cardiovascular disorders.Objectives: This study investigates the protective effects of different compatibility proportions of AR and ASR on cardiac dysfunction in a C57BL/6 mouse model of myocardial infarction (MI).Materials and methods: MI mice were induced by ligation of the left coronary artery and divided into six groups: sham, vehicle, 10 mg/kg/d simvastatin and combinations of AR and ASR at different ratios, including 1:1 (AR 2.5 g/kg + ASR 2.5 g/kg), 3:1 (AR 3.75 g/kg + ASR 1.25 g/kg) and 5:1 (AR 4.17 g/kg + ASR 0.83 g/kg). Both AR-ASR combinations and simvastatin were dissolved in saline solution and given daily by gavage. The left ventricle function, infarct size, heart tissue injury, apoptosis of cardiomyocytes, leukocyte infiltrates, capillary density and expression of cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9, Bcl-2, Bax, Bad, IL-1ß, IL-6, VEGF, p-Akt and p-eNOS were analysed.Results: Different combinations of AR and ASR improve cardiac function and reduce infarct size (61.15% vs. 39.3%, 42.65% and 45.5%) and tissue injury through different mechanisms. When AR was combined with ASR at ratio of 1:1, the inflammation and cardiomyocyte apoptosis were suppressed (p < 0.05, p < 0.01). The combination ratio of 3:1 exerted effect in promoting angiogensis (p < 0.05). In the combination of AR and ASR at 5:1 ratio, angiogenesis was significantly improved (p < 0.01) and the apoptosis was inhibited (p < 0.05).Conclusions: Our results reflect the regulation of multiple targets and links in herb pairs and provide an important basis for the use of AR and ASR combinations in the treatment of MI.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) have been shown to play critical roles in many diseases, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Recent studies have reported that some lncRNA encode functional micropeptides. However, the association between ESCC and micropeptides encoded by lncRNA remains largely unknown. In this study, we characterized a Y-linked lncRNA, LINC00278, which was downregulated in male ESCC. LINC00278 encoded a Yin Yang 1 (YY1)-binding micropeptide, designated YY1BM. YY1BM was involved in the ESCC progression and inhibited the interaction between YY1 and androgen receptor (AR), which in turn decreased expression of eEF2K through the AR signaling pathway. Downregulation of YY1BM significantly upregulated eEF2K expression and inhibited apoptosis, thus conferring ESCC cells more adaptive to nutrient deprivation. Cigarette smoking decreased m6A modification of LINC00278 and YY1BM translation. In conclusion, these results provide a novel mechanistic link between cigarette smoking and AR signaling in male ESCC progression. SIGNIFICANCE: Posttranscriptional modification of a micropeptide-encoding lncRNA is negatively impacted by cigarette smoking, disrupting negative regulation of the AR signaling pathway in male ESCC. Long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase (LACS) is one of the key enzymes involved in fatty acid metabolism, including phospholipid biosynthesis, triacylglycerol (TAG) biosynthesis, and fatty acid ß-oxidation in plants. However, the characterization of LACSs family in seed oil biosynthesis of Brassica napus (B. napus) remains unknown. In the present study, we performed a comprehensive genome-wide analysis of this gene family in B. napus, and 34 B. napus LACS genes (BnaLACSs) were identified. Phylogenetic analysis classified the BnaLACS proteins into four groups (A, B, C, and D), which were supported by highly conserved gene structures and consensus motifs. RNA-Sequencing (RNA-Seq) and qRT-PCR combined analysis revealed that 18 BnaLACSs (BnaLACS1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-9, 1-10, 2-1, 2-2, 4-1, 4-2, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, 7-1, 7-2, 8-1, 8-2, 9-3, and 9-4) were highly expressed in developmental seeds. Comparative expression analysis between extremely high oil content (P1-HO) and low oil content (P2-LO) B. napus cultivars revealed that BnaLACS6-4, BnaLACS9-3, and BnaLACS9-4 may be involved in fatty acid synthesis in chloroplast, and BnaLACS1-10 and 4-1 may play a vital role in lipid biosynthesis in B. napus, which is important for further seed oil accumulation in oilseed rape. The present study provides important information for functional characterization of BnaLACSs in seed oil metabolism in B. napus.

OBJECTIVE: To develop an improved version of the Quality-of-Life Assessment instrument for Lung Cancer Patients Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (QLASTCM-Lu) and to evaluate its psychometric property. METHODS: The structured group method and the theory in developing rating scale were employed to revise the preliminary scale. The psychometric property (reliability, validity, and responsiveness) of the established QLASTCM-Lu (modified) were evaluated by quality of life data measured in 100 lung cancer patients. Statistical analyses were made accordingly by way of correlation analysis, factor analysis and paired t-test. RESULTS: The internal consistency reliability of the overall scale and all domains was from 0.80 to 0.94. Correlation and factor analyses demonstrated that the scale was good in construct validity. The criterion validity was formed with European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer-Quality of Life Questionnaire-Lung Cancer (EORTC QLQ-LC43) as the criterion. Statistically significant changes were found apart from such domain as "mental condition" and "social function", with the standardized response means being close to those of QLQ-LC43. CONCLUSION: QLASTCM-Lu (modified) could be used to measure the quality of life of lung cancer patients with good reliability, validity and a certain degree of responsiveness.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Naoxintong (NXT) is a compound preparation that is widely used in patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. AIM OF STUDY: The aim of this study is to investigate the protective mechanism of NXT on the mice model of peripheral vascular disease (PAD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the study, hindlimb ischemia was induced by ligation of femoral artery on the right leg of mice. After surgery, the mice were administrated with saline solution, 10â¯mg/kg/d simvastatin and 700â¯mg/kg/d NXT for 4 weeks. The blood flow perfusion was measured by laser Doppler perfusion imaging system. Histological and immunofluorescent staining was used to determine muscle recovery, capillary density, tissue vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), phosphorylated-Akt (p-Akt) and phosphorylated-endothelial nitric oxide synthase (p-eNOS) expression. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferased UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) was performed to detect the apoptosis of myocytes in hindlimb. The autophagy-associated gene expression and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) expression were measured by Quantitative Real-Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). Western blotting was performed to detect the expressions of light-chain 3 (LC3), VEGF, p-Akt, p-eNOS and PPARs. The EMSA experiment was performed to figure out whether PPARδ could directly bind to the predicted PPRE motif of VEGF. RESULTS: NXT treatment significantly accelerated perfusion recovery and reduced tissue injury in mice muscle. Apoptosis and autophagy were decreased within the ischemic muscle of NXT-treated mice. Quantification of vessels in hindlimb muscles provided evidences that NXT promoted angiogenesis in peripheral ischemia. In addition, results from western blotting and immunofluorescent staining suggested NXT induced angiogenesis via VEGF/Akt/eNOS signaling pathway. More interestingly, NXT specifically increased the expression of PPARδ in both mRNA and protein levels. EMSA results showed that PPARδ associated with PPRE site of VEGF promoter, suggesting that NXT-induced VEGF expression is mediated, at least in part, by PPARδ. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the present study implicated that the restoration of hindlimb blood perfusion and recovery of limb functions were improved in NXT-treated mice with significant improvement of angiogenesis mediated by PPARδ-VEGF-Akt-eNOS axis as well as attenuation of autophagy and apoptosis. These results expand knowledge about the beneficial effects of NXT in angiogenesis and blood flow recovery. It might provide insight into the PPARδ regulating neovascularization in hindlimb ischemia and identify NXT as a potent new compound used for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease.

In order to explore the anti-inflammatory activity and active ingredient basis from the leaves of the Belamcanda chinensis and Iris tectorum, we established an HPLC method for simultaneous determination of six anti-inflammatory active ingredient contents in the root of the B. chinensis and I. tectorum as well as their leaves with different dry methods, and the anti-inflammatory effects of the extract were studied by the mouse ear swelling experiment. The HPLC analysis was performed on an Agilent WondaSil© C18-WR(4.6 mm×250 mmï¼5 µm)ï¼with isocratic elution of acetonitrile-0.1% ortho-phosphoric acid solution at a flow rate of 1. 0 mL·min⻹ and the detection was carried out at 265 nm. The chemical compositions of the B. chinensis and I. tectorum are similar but the contents of them are obviously different. Both rhizome and leaf extract of B. chinensis and I. tectorum had inhibitory effects on inflamed mice induced by dimethylbenzene and had anti-inflammatory effects by animal experiment, which could lay the material and active foundation for the development of the non-medicinal parts of the B. chinensis and I. tectorum.

Bacillus subtilis ANSB060 isolated from fish gut is very effective in detoxifying aflatoxins in feed and feed ingredients. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of B. subtilis ANSB060 on growth performance, body antioxidant functions, and aflatoxin residues in ducks fed moldy maize naturally contaminated with aflatoxins. A total of 1500 18-d-old male Cherry Valley ducks with similar body weight were randomly assigned to five treatments with six replicates of 50 ducks per repeat. The experiment design consisted of five dietary treatments labeled as C0 (basal diet containing 60% normal maize), M0 (basal diet containing 60% moldy maize contaminated with aflatoxins substituted for normal maize), M500, M1000, and M2000 (M0 +500, 1000 or 2000 g/t aflatoxin biodegradation preparation mainly consisted of B. subtilis ANSB060). The results showed that ducks fed 22.44 ± 2.46 µg/kg of AFB1 (M0) exhibited a decreasing tendency in average daily gain (ADG) and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity in serum, and T-SOD and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities in the liver significantly decreased along with the appearance of AFB1 and AFM1 compared with those in Group C0. The supplementation of B. subtilis ANSB060 into aflatoxin-contaminated diets increased the ADG of ducks (p > 0.05), significantly improved antioxidant enzyme activities, and reduced aflatoxin accumulation in duck liver. In conclusion, Bacillus subtilis ANSB060 in diets showed an ameliorating effect to duck aflatoxicosis and may be a promising feed additive.

Dispersive microsolid-phase extraction based on metal-organic framework has been developed and applied to the extraction of triazine and phenylurea herbicides in vegetable oils in this work. The herbicides were directly extracted with MIL-101 from diluted vegetables oils without any further cleanup. The separation and determination of herbicides were carried out on high performance liquid chromatography. The effects of experimental parameters, including volume ratio of n-hexane to oil sample, mass of MIL-101, extraction time, centrifugation time, eluting solvent, and elution time were investigated. The Student's t test was applied to evaluate the selected experimental conditions. The limits of detection for the herbicides ranged from 0.585 to 1.04 µg/L. The recoveries of the herbicides ranged from 87.3 to 107%. Our results showed that the present method is rapid, simple, and effective for extracting herbicides in vegetable oils.
