RESUMO

Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory peptides were screened and identified from yak hemoglobin for the first time by in silico analysis, molecular docking, and in vitro evaluation. Results showed that yak hemoglobin had a high potential to produce DPP-IV inhibitory peptides based on the sequence alignment and bioactive potential evaluation. Furthermore, "pancreatic elastase + stem bromelain" was the optimal combined-enzymatic strategy by simulated proteolysis. Additionally, 25 novel peptides were found from its simulated hydrolysate, among which 10 peptides had high binding affinities with DPP-IV by molecular docking. Most of these peptides were also in silico characterized with favorable physicochemical properties and biological potentials, including relatively low molecular weight, high hydrophobicity, several net charges, good water solubility, nontoxicity, acceptable sensory quality, and good human intestinal absorption. Finally, six novel DPP-IV inhibitory peptides were identified via in vitro assessment, among which EEKA (IC50 = 235.26 µM), DEV (IC50 = 339.45 µM), and HCDKL (IC50 = 632.93 µM) showed the strongest capacities. The hydrogen bonds and electrostatic attractions formed with core residues within the S2 pocket of DPP-IV could be mainly responsible for their inhibition performances. This work provided a time-saving method and broadened application for yak by-products development as sources of functional foods.

BACKGROUND: Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) have posed significant challenges to public health, and it is crucial to understand their mechanisms in order to develop effective therapeutic strategies. Recent studies have highlighted the potential role of selenium in ND pathogenesis, as it plays a vital role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing oxidative damage. However, a comprehensive analysis of the association between selenium and NDs is still lacking. METHOD: Five public databases, namely PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane and Clinical Trials, were searched in our research. Random model effects were chosen, and Higgins inconsistency analyses (I2), Cochrane's Q test and Tau2 were calculated to evaluate the heterogeneity. RESULT: The association of selenium in ND patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Huntington's disease (HD) was studied. A statistically significant relationship was only found for AD patients (SMD = -0.41, 95% CI (-0.64, -0.17), p < 0.001), especially for erythrocytes. However, no significant relationship was observed in the analysis of the other four diseases. CONCLUSION: Generally, this meta-analysis indicated that AD patients are strongly associated with lower selenium concentrations compared with healthy people, which may provide a clinical reference in the future. However, more studies are urgently needed for further study and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

We hypothesized that the respiratory exercises have uniform effects on ventilation in healthy subjects but the effects varied in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this study, a total of 30 healthy volunteers and 9 patients with COPD were included. Data were recorded continuously during (1) diaphragmatic breathing; (2) pursed lip breathing with full inhalation; (3) pursed lip combining diaphragmatic breathing. The sequence of the three breathing exercises was randomized using machine generated random permutation. Spatial and temporal ventilation distributions were evaluated with electrical impedance tomography. Results showed that, tidal volume was significantly larger during various breathing exercises compared to quiet tidal breathing, in both healthy and COPD (p < 0.01). However, for other EIT-based parameters, statistical significances were only observed in healthy volunteers, not in patients. Diaphragmatic breathing alone might not be able to decrease functional residual capacity in COPD and the effect varied largely from patient to patient (6:3, decrease vs. increase). Ventilation distribution moved toward ventral regions in healthy during breathing exercises (p < 0.0001). Although this trend was observed in the COPD, the differences were not significant. Ventilation became more homogeneous when diaphragmatic breathing technique was implemented (p < 0.0001). Again, the improvements were not significant in COPD. Regional ventilation delay was relatively high in COPD and comparable in various breathing periods. In conclusions, the impact of pursed lip and diaphragmatic breathing varied in different patients with COPD. Breathing exercise may need to be individualized to maximize the training efficacy with help of EIT.

Microplastics (MPs) and heavy metals are common, often co-existing pollutants, that threaten crop growth and productivity worldwide. We analysed the adsorption of lead ions (Pb2+) to polylactic acid MPs (PLA-MPs) and their single factor and combined effects on tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum L. Gaertn.) in hydroponics by measuring changes in the growth characteristics, antioxidant enzyme activities and Pb2+ uptake of buckwheat in response to PLA-MPs and Pb2+. PLA-MPs adsorbed Pb2+, and the better fitting second-order adsorption model implied that Pb2+ was adsorbed by chemisorption. However, the similar Pb2+ contents in the plants treated with Pb2+ only and those treated with the combined PLA-MPs-Pb2+ suggested that the adsorption played no role in the uptake of Pb2+. Low concentrations of PLA-MPs promoted shoot length. At high concentrations of both PLA-MPs and Pb2+, buckwheat growth was inhibited, and leaf peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents were higher than in the control. No significant differences were observed in seedling growth between exposure to Pb2+ only and combined exposure to PLA-MPs with Pb2+, implying that PLA-MPs did not increase the toxicity of Pb2+ at macroscopic level. POD activity was higher and chlorophyll content was lower with PLA-MPs in the low Pb2+ dose treatments, suggesting that PLA-MPs may increase the toxicity of naturally occurring Pb2+. However, the conclusions must be verified in controlled experiments in natural soil conditions over the whole cultivation period of buckwheat.

Traditional Chinese medicine has been used in China for thousands of years. In 2022, the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine was released, aiming to enhance traditional Chinese medicine health services and improve policies and systems for high-quality traditional Chinese medicinal development by 2025. ERIANIN, the main component of the traditional Chinese medicine Dendrobium, plays an important role in anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antitumor, antiangiogenic, and other pharmacological effects. ERIANIN has broad-spectrum antitumor effects, and its tumor-suppressive effects have been confirmed in the study of various diseases, such as precancerous lesions of the stomach, gastric cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, osteosarcoma, colorectal cancer, leukaemia, nasopharyngeal cancer and melanoma through the multiple signaling pathways. Thus, the aim of this review was to systematically summarise the research on ERIANIN with the aim of serving as a reference for future research on this compound and briefly discuss some future perspectives development of ERIANIN in combined immunotherapy.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and substituted PAHs (SPAHs) are persistent organic pollutants prevalent globally, and SPAHs have received widespread attention in recent years due to their stronger toxicity and carcinogenicity compared to PAHs. There is a lack of systematic examination of PAHs and their derivatives in watersheds. Thus, to clarify the current status, possible sources, and potential risks of PAHs and their derivatives in watersheds, a study was conducted on Yitong River in China. The results showed that the concentrations of ∑PAHs, ∑OPAHs, and ∑NPAHs ranged from 297.9-1158.3 ng/L, 281.1-587.2 ng/L, and 65.7-269.1 ng/L, respectively. Diagnostic ratio analysis showed that the PAHs were mainly derived from petroleum sources, agricultural waste, and coal combustion. Nitrated PAHs (NPAHs) were mainly derived from liquid combustion sources, and oxygenated PAHs (OPAHs) were derived mainly from petroleum source emissions and atmospheric deposition. The exposure risk model of PAHs revealed that 86% of the studied sites would pose carcinogenic risks after dermal contact. The contaminant causing a major carcinogenic risk was DahA, and none of the sites produced non-carcinogenic risks. The lifetime carcinogenic risk of NPAHs was 8.85 × 10-10-1.44 × 10-4, and some surface waters presented with potential carcinogenic risks.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally and poses at significant challenge in terms of effective medical treatment. Leonurus japonicus Houtt, a traditional Chinese herb, is widely used in China for the treatment of obstetrical and gynecological disorders, including menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, blood stasis, postpartum bleeding, and blood-related diseases such as CVD. Stachydrine, the main alkaloid component of Leonurus, has been shown to exhibit a wide range of biological activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-coagulant, anti-apoptotic, vasodilator, angiogenic promoter. Additionally, it has been demonstrated to have unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of CVD through regulation of various disease-related signaling pathways and molecular targets. In this comprehensive review, we examine the latest pharmacological effects and molecular mechanisms of Stachydrine in treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Our aim is to solid scientific basis for the development of new CVD drug formulations.

The loquat (Eriobotrya japonica L.) is a special evergreen tree, and its fruit is of high medical and health value as well as having stable market demand around the world. In recent years, research on the accumulation of nutrients in loquat fruit, such as carotenoids, flavonoids, and terpenoids, has become a hotspot. The SBP-box gene family encodes transcription factors involved in plant growth and development. However, there has been no report on the SBP-box gene family in the loquat genome and their functions in carotenoid biosynthesis and fruit ripening. In this study, we identified 28 EjSBP genes in the loquat genome, which were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes. We also systematically investigated the phylogenetic relationship, collinearity, gene structure, conserved motifs, and cis-elements of EjSBP proteins. Most EjSBP genes showed high expression in the root, stem, leaf, and inflorescence, while only five EjSBP genes were highly expressed in the fruit. Gene expression analysis revealed eight differentially expressed EjSBP genes between yellow- and white-fleshed fruits, suggesting that the EjSBP genes play important roles in loquat fruit development at the breaker stage. Notably, EjSBP01 and EjSBP19 exhibited completely opposite expression patterns between white- and yellow-fleshed fruits during fruit development, and showed a close relationship with SlCnr involved in carotenoid biosynthesis and fruit ripening, indicating that these two genes may participate in the synthesis and accumulation of carotenoids in loquat fruit. In summary, this study provides comprehensive information about the SBP-box gene family in the loquat, and identified two EjSBP genes as candidates involved in carotenoid synthesis and accumulation during loquat fruit development.

To explore the risk factors for in-stent restenosis (ISR) after stent implantation in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) using logistic regression analysis. From February 2020 to February 2022, 350 patients with CHD after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were divided into a stent stenosis group and a stent nonstenosis group based on coronary angiography results performed 2 years after PCI. Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were used to analyze the factors related to ISR after coronary stent implantation in patients with CHD. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Patient signed informed consent. Of the 350 patients with CHD, 138 (39.43%) had stent restenosis while 212 did not. Univariate analysis showed that a family history of CHD, history of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and drinking, discontinuation of aspirin, use of conventional dose statins, calcified lesions, ≥ 3 implanted stents, stent length ≥ 30 mm, stent diameter < 3 mm, and tandem stent increased the risk of restenosis. The incidence of restenosis was higher in the stent group than that in the nonstent group (P < .05). There were no significant differences in the blood lipid level, left ventricular ejection fraction, clopidogrel/ticagrelor or beta-blocker withdrawal, location of culprit vessels, and thrombotic lesions between the 2 groups (P > .05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that family history of CHD, history of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and drinking, aspirin withdrawal, use of conventional doses of statins, calcified lesions, ≥ 3 implanted stents, stent length ≥ 30 mm, stent diameter < 3 mm, and tandem stenting were risk factors for ISR within 2 years after PCI. A family history of CHD, history of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and drinking, discontinuation of aspirin, use of conventional dose statins, calcified lesions, ≥ 3 stent implantations, stent length ≥ 30 mm, stent diameter < 3 mm, and tandem stenting are risk factors for ISR within 2 years after PCI in patients with CHD.

To explore how environmental factors affected the plankton structure in the Yitong River, we surveyed the water environmental factors and plankton population in different seasons. The results showed high total nitrogen concentrations in Yitong River throughout the year, while the total phosphorus, water temperature (WT), and chemical oxygen demand in summer were significantly higher than those in other seasons (p < 0.05), and the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations and TN/TP ratio were significantly lower (p < 0.01) than those in other seasons. There was no significant seasonal change in other environmental factors. Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, and Bacillariophyta were the main phytoplankton phylum, while Protozoa and Rotifera were the main zooplankton phylum. The abundance and biomass of zooplankton and phytoplankton in the summer were higher than those in other seasons. Non-Metric Multidimensional scaling methods demonstrated obvious seasonal variation of phytoplankton in summer compared to spring and winter, while the seasonal variation of the zooplankton community was not obvious. The results of the redundancy analysis showed that WT, DO and nitrate nitrogen were the main environmental factors affecting phytoplankton abundance. In contrast to environmental factors, phytoplankton was the main factor driving the seasonal variation of the zooplankton community structure. Cyanophyta were positively correlated with the changes in the plankton community.

Real-time fMRI (RT-fMRI) neurofeedback has been shown to be effective in treating neuropsychiatric disorders and holds tremendous promise for future breakthroughs, both with regard to basic science and clinical applications. However, the prevalence of its use has been hampered by computing hardware requirements, the complexity of setting up and running an experiment, and a lack of standards that would foster collaboration. To address these issues, we have developed RT-Cloud (https://github.com/brainiak/rt-cloud), a flexible, cloud-based, open-source Python software package for the execution of RT-fMRI experiments. RT-Cloud uses standardized data formats and adaptable processing streams to support and expand open science in RT-fMRI research and applications. Cloud computing is a key enabling technology for advancing RT-fMRI because it eliminates the need for on-premise technical expertise and high-performance computing; this allows installation, configuration, and maintenance to be automated and done remotely. Furthermore, the scalability of cloud computing makes it easier to deploy computationally-demanding multivariate analyses in real time. In this paper, we describe how RT-Cloud has been integrated with open standards, including the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) standard and the OpenNeuro database, how it has been applied thus far, and our plans for further development and deployment of RT-Cloud in the coming years.

Although Corni Fructus (CF) is a fruit with great economic value and development potential in medicine and food, too much reliance on personal experience for quality evaluation seriously limits the trading and circulation of CF. In the present study, through the research on the correlation between the chemical composition and the appearance color, a standard colorimetric card related to CF quality was established, which simplified the quality evaluation process and improved the accuracy of the visual evaluation of CF. Firstly, a total of 29 batches of CF from different places were collected. Then, "imread" in the MATLAB software was used to convert the color of all samples into RGB values, and HPLC-DVD was used to measure the content of the main chemical components in CF. Thereafter, the correlation between the content and color was studied by using MLR, BP-ANNs and SVM chemometric tools to screen the Q-marker of CF, which was further confirmed by in vivo and in vitro experiments. Finally, the Q-marker standard colorimetric card with the best fitting degree is established according to the prediction model. Thus, this study provides an auxiliary reference for the color evaluation of CF and a reference for the standardization and quantification of the macro characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and food.

Homo sapiens was present in northern Asia by around 40,000 years ago, having replaced archaic populations across Eurasia after episodes of earlier population expansions and interbreeding1-4. Cultural adaptations of the last Neanderthals, the Denisovans and the incoming populations of H. sapiens into Asia remain unknown1,5-7. Here we describe Xiamabei, a well-preserved, approximately 40,000-year-old archaeological site in northern China, which includes the earliest known ochre-processing feature in east Asia, a distinctive miniaturized lithic assemblage with bladelet-like tools bearing traces of hafting, and a bone tool. The cultural assembly of traits at Xiamabei is unique for Eastern Asia and does not correspond with those found at other archaeological site assemblages inhabited by archaic populations or those generally associated with the expansion of H. sapiens, such as the Initial Upper Palaeolithic8-10. The record of northern Asia supports a process of technological innovations and cultural diversification emerging in a period of hominin hybridization and admixture2,3,6,11.

BACKGROUND: D-Lactic acid played an important role in the establishment of PLA as a substitute for petrochemical plastics. But, so far, the D-lactic acid production was limited in only pilot scale, which was definitely unable to meet the fast growing market demand. To achieve industrial scale D-lactic acid production, the cost-associated problems such as high-cost feedstock, expensive nutrient sources and fermentation technology need to be resolved to establish an economical fermentation process. RESULTS: In the present study, the combined effect of B vitamin supplementation and membrane integrated continuous fermentation on D-lactic acid production from agricultural lignocellulosic biomass by Lactobacillus delbrueckii was investigated. The results indicated the specific addition of vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B5 (VB1, VB2, VB3 and VB5) could reduce the yeast extract (YE) addition from 10 to 3 g/l without obvious influence on fermentation efficiency. By employing cell recycling system in 350 h continuous fermentation with B vitamin supplementation, YE addition was further reduced to 0.5 g/l, which resulted in nutrient source cost reduction of 86%. A maximum D-lactate productivity of 18.56 g/l/h and optical purity of 99.5% were achieved and higher than most recent reports. CONCLUSION: These findings suggested the novel fermentation strategy proposed could effectively reduce the production cost and improve fermentation efficiency, thus exhibiting great potential in promoting industrial scale D-lactic acid production from lignocellulosic biomass.

Aerobic glycolysis, also known as the Warburg effect, is a hallmark of cancer cell glucose metabolism and plays a crucial role in the activation of various types of immune cells. Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) catalyzes the conversion of D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate to D-glycerate 1,3-bisphosphate in the 6th critical step in glycolysis. GAPDH exerts metabolic flux control during aerobic glycolysis and therefore is an attractive therapeutic target for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Recently, GAPDH inhibitors were reported to function through common suicide inactivation by covalent binding to the cysteine catalytic residue of GAPDH. Herein, by developing a high-throughput enzymatic screening assay, we discovered that the natural product 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-ß-D-glucopyranose (PGG) is an inhibitor of GAPDH with Ki = 0.5 µM. PGG blocks GAPDH activity by a reversible and NAD+ and Pi competitive mechanism, suggesting that it represents a novel class of GAPDH inhibitors. In-depth hydrogen deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) analysis revealed that PGG binds to a region that disrupts NAD+ and inorganic phosphate binding, resulting in a distal conformational change at the GAPDH tetramer interface. In addition, structural modeling analysis indicated that PGG probably reversibly binds to the center pocket of GAPDH. Moreover, PGG inhibits LPS-stimulated macrophage activation by specific downregulation of GAPDH-dependent glucose consumption and lactate production. In summary, PGG represents a novel class of GAPDH inhibitors that probably reversibly binds to the center pocket of GAPDH. Our study sheds new light on factors for designing a more potent and specific inhibitor of GAPDH for future therapeutic applications.

In order to realize the active and synchronous control of nitrogen (N) and organic matter (OM) release from sediments, this study compared the spatiotemporal changes in the physical, chemical, and biological indicators in the water system under different CaO2 dosing modes. Results from 90-day incubation experiment showed that CaO2 formed a dense barrier layer near its dosing position, improved the anoxic condition of water system, increased the physical adsorption of pollutants by sediments, and reduced the nutrients in overlying water, interstitial water, and sediments. Comprehensive comparison, the improvement effect of shallow injection group (I1) was the most obvious. Meanwhile, the activities of ammonia oxidizing bacteria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria near dosing position and those of denitrifiers and anammox bacteria adjacent to dosing site were significantly increased in all test groups (p < 0.01), thereby realizing the biological removal of N and OM in sediments. In addition, DO and ORP were steadily higher than 5 mg L-1 and 100 mV in I1, where the NH4+-N concentration in overlying water was stable below 1 mg L-1, and the easily released N content in the upper (0-3 cm) and middle (4-6 cm) sediments decreased by 41.64% and 43.56%, respectively. Compared with the large pollutant flux in control (14.31 TN mg m-2 d-1 and 194.05 mg TCOD m-2 d-1), I1 completely inhibited the pollutant release and reduced the original nutrients in overlying water. In general, CaO2 efficiently and synchronously controlled the endogenous release of N and OM under the combined actions of physical interception, physical adsorption, chemical oxidation, and biological transformation. Therefore, this study may provide valuable reference and guidance for the active and synchronous removal of N and OM in sediments and inhibition of endogenous pollutant release under anoxic condition.

Corni Fructus (CF) is a traditional medicine and beneficial food with multifaceted protective effects against diabetes and its complications. Since alpha-glucosidase inhibitors (GIs) are promising first-choice oral antihyperglycemic drugs for diabetes, we examined whether GIs from CF (GICF) are useful for diabetes treatment. Therefore, GICF was extracted by ultrasound-assisted enzymatic extraction (UAEE) that is optimized by a three-level, four-factor Box-Behnken design and determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography. Compared to 36.31 mg g-1 without enzyme treatment, the GICF yield increased to 70.44 mg g-1via UAEE under optimum conditions (0.5% compound enzyme extracted in 23 min at 46 °C and pH 4.8). The activity (91.99%) of GICF was as predicted (93.28%). When GICF was used in an insulin-resistant HepG2 cell model, it significantly ameliorated the glucose metabolism in a dose-dependent manner. Our findings indicate that UAEE may be an innovative method for functional food extraction and a potential strategy for high-quality food ingredient (such as GI) production with high efficiency and productivity.

Previous studies of brain structural abnormalities in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) samples scarcely excluded comorbidity or analyzed them in subtypes. This study aimed to identify neuroanatomical alterations related to diagnosis and subtype of ADHD participants without comorbidity. In our cross-sectional analysis, we used T1-weighted structural MRI images of individuals from the ADHD-200 database. After strict exclusion, 121 age-matched children with uncomorbid ADHD (54 with ADHD-inattentive [iADHD] and 67 with ADHD-combined [cADHD]) and 265 typically developing control subjects (TDC) were included in current investigation. The established method of voxel-based morphometry (VBM8) was used to assess global brain volume and regional grey matter volume (GM). Our results showed that the ADHD patients had more regional GM in the bilateral thalamus relative to the controls. Post hoc analysis revealed that regional GM increase only linked to the iADHD subtype in the right thalamus and precentral gyrus. Besides, the right thalamus volume was positively related to inattentive severity in the iADHD. There were no group differences in global volume. Our results provide preliminary evidence that cerebral structural alterations are tied to uncomorbid ADHD subjects and predominantly attribute to iADHD subtype. Furthermore, the volume of the right thalamus may be relevant to inattentive symptoms in iADHD possibly related to a lack of inhibition of irrelevant sensory input.

Nano-LC-MS/MS was used to analyze trypsin digested deer-horn gelatin( DCG) and deer-hide gelatin( DHG) samples.The glycopeptides in DCG and DHG were quantified by Label-free quantitative( LFQ) peptidomics,on the basis of which the glycopeptides with significant difference in DCG and DHG were determined. As a result,5 736 peptides were identified from DCG samples,including 213 galactosyl-hydroxylysine containing peptides( Gal-Hyl-peptides) and 102 glucosyl-galactosyl-hydroxylysine containing peptides( Glc-Gal-Hyl-peptides),while 6 836 peptides were identified from DHG samples,among which there were 250 Gal-Hyl-peptides and 98 Glc-Gal-Hyl-peptides. With over 3-fold peak area difference and highly significant intergroup difference( P < 0. 01) as the screening criteria,444 differential peptides were determined in DCG and DHG,including 16 Gal-Hyl-peptides and 5 Glc-Gal-Hyl-peptides. Then XIC peak shapes,standard deviation of peak area,and fold change were applied for further screening and 5 glycopeptides with significant differences in DCG and DHG were confirmed,which could serve as potential biomarkers for distinguishing DCG and DHG. The present study provided ideas and strategies for the in-depth investigation on the discrimination of DCG and DHG and is of good theoretical significance and application value for the further research on chemical constituents and quality control of gelatin derived Chinese medicinals.

Nickel is widely spread by different anthropogenic activities and shows toxicity for plant growth and development. Whether rhizobia symbiotically fix nitrogen can eliminate or reduce nickel toxic effect on plant or not is still unknown. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of different rhizobia genus inoculation on growth, nitrogen fixing ability, metal accumulation and enzymatic antioxidative balance of Pongamia pinnnaa. Inoculation with Rhizobium pisi and Ochrobacterium pseudogrignonense increased the all the growth parameters both in 0 and 40 mg/kg nickel as comparison with control. Only shoot length increased in presence of nitrogen as compared with no supply of nitrogen. Nitrogen content also increased both in rhizobia inoculation as compared to no nitrogen supply and non-inoculation control, respectively. Nickel uptake was higher in shoots and leaves but lower in roots in case of inoculation as compared to non-inoculation control. Rhizobia inoculation improved the plant antioxidant capacity by increasing the activity of enzymatic scavengers catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and ascorbate (GR). However, 40 mg/kg of nickel adding showed mostly effect on the activity CAT, SOD, POD in leaves. All the enzymatic activity showed a significant increase in absence of nitrogen supply as compared nitrogen supply. Our results suggested that rhizobia inoculation effectively mediated nickel stress for legume plants by increasing nitrogen supplement and inducing antioxidant capacity.
