RESUMO

The genus Rosa (Rosaceae family) includes about 200 species spread in the world, and this genus shows unique advantages in medicine and food. To date, several scholars concentrated on compounds belonging to flavonoids, triterpenes, tannins, polysaccharide, phenolic acids, fatty acids, organic acids, carotenoids, and vitamins. Pharmacological effects such as antineoplastic and anti-cancer properties, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, liver protection, regulate blood sugar, antimicrobial activity, antiviral activity, as well as nervous system protection and cardiovascular protection were wildly reported. This article reviews the chemical constituents, pharmacological effects, applications and safety evaluations of Rosa plants, which provides a reference for the comprehensive utilization of medicine and food resources and gives a scientific basis for the development of medicinal plants of the genus Rosa.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of kinesiology tape in treating hemiplegic shoulder pain. METHODS: Web of Science, MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, six other English databases and three Chinese databases (CNKI, VIP, Wan Fang) were searched for randomized controlled trials published prior to December 13, 2020 in English or Chinese on the use of kinesiology tape for hemiplegic shoulder pain. RESULTS: Fourteen randomized controlled trials (679 patients) of good PEDro quality (6.43 ± 1.09) were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled results for pain (SMD -0.92, 95% CI -1.10 to -0.74, P< 0.001, 10 RCTs, 539 patients), range of motion (SMD 2.27, 95% CI 1.23 to 3.32, P< 0.001, 7 studies, 320 patients), the acromion humeral distance (SMD -0.62, 95% CI -0.88 to -0.37, P< 0.001, 7 RCTs, 246 patients) and the FMA-UE score (SMD 0.66, 95% CI 0.41 to 0.91, P< 0.001, 5 RCTs, 263 patients) suggested that therapeutic kinesiology tape relieved pain, increased ROM, shortened the acromion humeral distance and improved upper extremity motor function to a greater extent than the sham or blank control conditions. The pooled results for individual activity (SMD 0.42, 95% CI -0.22 to 1.07, P= 0.199, 5 RCTs, 199 patients) and quality of life (SMD 0.308, 95% CI -0.288 to 0.903, P= 0.311, 1 RCT, 44 patients) showed that the kinesiology tape group was not significantly different from the sham or blank control group. Publication bias was not observed. No adverse events were reported in any of the included studies. CONCLUSION: KT relieved pain and improved the ROM, DAH and FMA-UE score in patients with HSP to a greater extent than did the sham KT or blank control conditions. The effects on independence in activities of daily living and quality of life and whether this method is superior to active treatment in patients with HSP were not verified. More rigorous, reasonably designed RCTs with large sample sizes are still needed in the future.

RESUMO

Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a well-recognized complication of ABO major mismatched allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), with a reported incidence of 10%-20% (Zhidong et al., 2012; Busca et al., 2018). It is clinically characterized by anemia, reticulocytopenia, and the absence of erythroblasts in a normal-appearing bone marrow biopsy (Shahan and Hildebrandt, 2015). The mechanism for PRCA has been presumed to be persistence of recipient isoagglutinins, produced by residual host B lymphocytes or plasma cells, which can interfere with the engraftment of donor erythroid cells (Zhidong et al., 2012). Several risk factors of PRCA at presentation are known, such as presence of anti-A isoagglutinins before transplantation, reduced intensity conditioning, absence of acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), sibling donors, and cyclosporin A (CsA) as GVHD prophylaxis (Hirokawa et al., 2013). PRCA is not considered to be a barrier to HSCT, as some patients can recover spontaneously or benefit from various approaches including high-dose steroids, erythropoietin (EPO), plasma exchange, immunoadsorption, donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI), treatment with rituximab, bortezomib, or daratumumab, and tapering or discontinuation of immunosuppression (Hirokawa et al., 2013; Bathini et al., 2019). However, there are still some patients who fail to respond even to aggressive treatment; they become red cell transfusion-dependent and iron-overloaded, and their life quality is impaired.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Microbial communities and their metabolic components in the gut are of vital importance for immune homeostasis and have an influence on the susceptibility of the host to a number of immune-mediated diseases like acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). However, little is known about the functional connections between microbiome and metabolome in aGVHD due to the complexity of the gastrointestinal environment. METHOD: Initially, gut microbiota and fecal metabolic phenotype in aGVHD murine models were unleashed by performing 16S ribosomal DNA gene sequencing and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS)-based metabolomics. FINDINGS: The group with aGVHD experienced a significant drop in Lachnospiraceae_unclassified but an increase in the relative abundance of Clostridium XI, Clostridium XIVa and Enterococcus. Meanwhile, a lower content of tyrosine was observed in the gut of aGVHD mice. The correlation analysis revealed that tyrosine-related metabolites were inversely correlated with Clostridium XIVa, besides, Blautia and Enterococcus also displayed the negative tendency in aGVHD condition. Apart from exploring the importance and function of tyrosine, different tyrosine diets were offered to mice during transplantation. Additional tyrosine supplements can improve overall survival, ameliorate symptoms at the early stage of aGVHD and change the structure and composition of gut microbiota and fecal metabolic phenotype. In addition, aGVHD mice deprived from tyrosine displayed worse manifestations than the vehicle diet group. INTERPRETATION: The results demonstrated the roles and mechanisms of gut microbiota, indispensable metabolites and tyrosine in the progression of aGVHD, which can be an underlying biomarker for aGVHD diagnosis and treatment. RESUMO

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the effect of three different approaches for artificially inducing the formation of agarwood over time in young Aquilaria sinensis trees using antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity was determined by a two-fold serial dilution method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against a panel of microorganisms (two bacterial strains, Staphylococcus aureus and anti-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and seven fungal strains: Penicillium melinii, Penicillium adametzi, Penicillium urticae, Penicillium notatum, Paecilomyces varioti, Mucor saturninus Hagem and Aspergillus niger). The results showed that artificial agarwood obtained by comprehensive stimulated method (formic acid plus fungal inoculation) and extended longer inducing time have better antimicrobial activity, which is similar to the result of chemical analysis. Therefore, it is a beneficial exploration to the first use of antimicrobial activity to evaluate artificial agarwood obtained by different producing methods and different culture time.

RESUMO

The Changshu tablet (CST), one kind of Chinese patent medicine with astringent to the intestine and relieving diarrhea, was made by the root of Rose odorata Sweet var. gigantean (Coll.et Hemsl.) Rehd.et Wils. Although CST has a long history of clinical application, but the research of its chemical composition is less. So the objective of this study was to investigate the main constituents and preliminarily research its effect of the contraction of isolated intestine in vitro. The contents of total polyphenols (126.23mg/g) and total triterpenoids (132.75mg/g) in CST were determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Procyanidin B3, epigallo catechin, catechin, epicatechin, (-)-fisetinidol-(4α, 8)-(-)-catechin, (4α, 8)-(-)-fisetinidol-(-)-epicatechins and (+)-guibourtinidol-(4ß, 8)-epicatechin were identified and determined by high performance liquid chromatography and their contents were distributed from 0.04mg/g to 1.46 mg/g. CST showed significant inhibitory effect against acetylcholine-induced contraction on the rat-isolated intestinal smooth muscle with a dose-dependent manner from 0.06 to 0.6mg/mL. The maxim inhibition rates of CST on duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon were 65.70±3.47%, 79.74±1.27%, 58.90±1.87% and 45.75±2.21% respectively. These results indicated that CST has a spasmolytic role in gastrointestinal motility which was probably mediated through inhibition of muscarinic receptors. All these findings promote the improvement of the quality control standard of CST and provide pharmacological foundation for clinical application of CST in gastrointestinal tract.

RESUMO

The root of Cynanchum auriculatum (C. auriculatum) Royle ex Wight has been shown to possess various pharmacological effects and has recently attracted much attention with respect to its potential role in antitumor activity. The C-21 steroidal glycosides are commonly accepted as the major active ingredients of C. auriculatum. In this study, the antitumor abilities of different extracted fractions of the root bark and the root tuber of C. auriculatum were investigated by using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay in human cancer cell lines HepG2 and SMMC-7721. The results showed that the chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions of the root tuber suppressed tumor cell growth strongly. To identify and characterize the chemical constituents of different active fractions, an ultra high performance liquid chromatography with triple-quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry method was developed for the simultaneous quantitation of eight C-21 steroidal glycosides. The analysis revealed that the C-21 steroidal glycosides were concentrated in the chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions, and the total contents of different fractions in the root tuber were significantly higher than those of corresponding ones in the root bark. Furthermore, the C-21 steroidal glycosides based on different types of aglucones were prone in different medicinal parts of C. auriculatum.

RESUMO

Based on the monitoring data in the tidal reach and estuary of the Daliao river in August and November, 2013, the seasonal and spatial distribution of the nitrogen and phosphorus forms were studied, and the degree of eutrophication was evaluated. The results showed that nitrate nitrogen was the main chemical species and occupied about fifty-five percent of inorganic nitrogen, and the particulate phosphorus was the main chemical species and occupied about fifty percent of total phosphorus in the tidal reach and estuary of the Daliao river in wet and dry seasons, 2013. The concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients decreased in the direction from tidal reach to estuary of the Daliao river. Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant negative correlation between the nitrogen and phosphorus forms and salinity in most of the water body, which illustrated that physical dilution of seawater played a major role in the spatial distribution of nitrogen and phosphorus forms. The concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in the dry season were higher than those in the wet season, this was mainly related to the seasonal terrestrial input of the tidal reach. The concentration of the dissolved inorganic nitrogen was higher than 0.30 mg · L⁻¹, and the value of N/P was higher than 60, which indicated that PO4³â»-P was the nutrient limiting phytoplankton growth in the tidal reach and estuary of the Daliao river in August and November, 2013.

RESUMO

A total of 13 surface water samples were collected from sewage outfalls and 3 main tributaries ( Hunhe River, Taizi River and Haicheng River) of the Daliao River to clarify the pollution characteristics of various species of nitrogen and phosphorus in July 2013, respectively. The results showed that the concentrations of DON in the Hunhe River, NO3(-)-N in the Taizi River, NH4(+) -N, PO4(3-) -P and DOP in the Haicheng River were higher than others. In water samples from the 3 main tributaries of the Daliao River, the TN and TP contents were above the national environmental quality standards for surface water (GB 3838-2002, grade V) except for the TP that was classified as grade IV in the Taizi River. The percentages of various N species showed that NO3(-) -N was the major N species in the Taizi River and Haicheng River, meanwhile DON was the major N species in the Hunhe River. The percentages of various P species showed that TPP was the major P species in the Hunhe River and Taizi River, and DOP was the major P species in the Haicheng River. TN content was above the national environmental quality standards for surface water (GB 3838-2002, grade V) in sewage outfalls. But TP content was classified as grade IV to above grade V. And the concentrations of NH4(+) -N, TN and TP in sewage outfalls of Shachang and Gangjian were higher than those in other sewage outfalls. The percentages of various N species in sewage outfalls showed that DIN was the major N species in sewage outfalls. There were higher level of TN and TP content in the Daliao River than those of tribtaries, and NO3(-) -N and TPP were the major N and P species, respectively. In general, the nutrients analysis of tributaries, sewage outfalls and the Daliao River showed that nutrients of the Daliao River were affected by sewage outfalls. And the effect was significant and non-ignorable.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: XELOX (oxaliplatin 130 mg/m(2) iv, capecitabine 1000 mg/m(2) bid oral d1-14, q3w) chemotherapy has never been used in children. In this report, we present a case of a 12-year-old girl with colon adenocarcinoma, treated with surgery and XELOX chemotherapy. METHODS: On admission, the girl complained of abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction. Physical examination revealed a distended abdomen with tenderness on the left upper quadrant. Barium enema revealed a stenotic lesion at the distal end of the transverse colon, and abdominal computed tomography showed acute obstruction and a colonic mass. Laparotomy was performed after the failure of conservative treatment. RESULTS: The mass was originated from the transverse colon. Frozen sections of the specimens revealed an adenocarcinoma. Transverse colectomy was performed and regional lymph nodes were removed. Pathological examination confirmed that the mass was a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, and XELOX chemotherapy was used. No evidence of recurrent or metastatic tumor was found after 18 months. CONCLUSION: Although complete resection is the most effective treatment, XELOX chemotherapy is beneficial to the improvement of clinical outcome of patients with colon adenocarcinoma.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To prepare chitosan-modified tripterygium glycoside nanoparticles (LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs), and assess its renal targeting property in rats. METHOD: Chitosan-modified tripterygium glycoside nanoparticles (LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs) were prepared by modified spontaneous emulsification solvent evaporation method, and modified with 50% deacetylated low molecular weight chitosan (LMWC). The shape of nanoparticles was observed under a transmission electron microscope. The mean diameter of nanoparticles was measured by particle size analyzer. The drug encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were measured by centrifuge method. The in vitro release behavior was studied with dialysis bags. Renal microdialysis technique and renal artery administration technique were combined to study the renal targeting property of nanopartcles. LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs were administrated in rats by tail vein injection (TVI) and renal artery administration (RAA), respectively, with TG-PLA-NPs as the control group. Renal dialysis fluid was regularly collected to determine the drug concentration in the dialysis fluid, map drug concentration-time curves, and calculate AUC ratio in kidneys through the two injection approaches as the renal targeting parameter (RTP), in order to assess the renal targeting property of LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs. RESULTS: The prepared LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs looked smooth and round. Their average diameter, polydispersity index, encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were (207.6 +/- 3.4) nm, (0.078 +/- 0.009)%, (61.83 +/- 2.43)%, and (10.70 +/- 0.37)%, respectively. The pH 7.4 PBS buffer solution containing 20% ethanol showed obvious sustained release behavior. LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs showed a RTP of 71.97%, which was 3.6 times of TG-PLA-NPs of the control group. CONCLUSION: The prepared LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs showed high drug encapsulation efficiency and drug loading, with obvious sustained release characteristics and renal targeting property. LMWC-TG-PLA-NPs are expected to become a new type vector for reducing toxic and side effects of tripterygium glycoside. Meanwhile, a new method is established for assessing renal targeting property with AUC ratio in kidneys after administrated through caudal veins and renal arteries as the renal targeting parameter.
