BACKGROUND: Although dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is still the gold standard for diagnosing osteoporosis, it can lead to inaccurate bone mineral density measurements due to lumbar degeneration and scoliosis. Many researchers have investigated diagnostic methods for osteoporosis in patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS). This study aimed to investigate the differences between conventional vertebral bone quality (VBQ) scores and modified VBQ scores in patients with DLS and the influence of lumbar scoliosis on VBQ scores. METHODS: We retrospectively collected the clinical and radiological data of 68 patients with DLS admitted to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from July 2018 to April 2023. The patients were classified into one of 2 groups based on the T score of the left femoral neck. VBQ scores relative to cerebrospinal fluid at different levels, VBQ scores on different planes and single-level VBQ scores were compared. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional spinal deformity that is associated with low bone mineral density (BMD). Vitamin D (Vit-D) supplementation has been suggested to improve BMD in AIS, and its outcomes may be related to genetic factors. The present study aimed to (a) investigate the synergistic effect between a low BMD-related gene (wingless-related integration site 16, WNT16) and two important Vit-D pathway genes (Vit-D receptor, VDR, and Vit-D binding protein, VDBP) on serum Vit-D and bone qualities in Chinese AIS patients and healthy adolescents, and (b) to further investigate the effect of ablating Wnt16 on the cortical bone quality and whether diets with different dosages of Vit-D would further influence bone quality during the rapid growth phase in mice in the absence of Wnt16. A total of 519 girls (318 AIS vs. 201 controls) were recruited, and three selected single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (WNT16 rs3801387, VDBP rs2282679, and VDR rs2228570) were genotyped. The serum 25(OH)Vit-D level was significantly associated with VDBP rs2282679 alleles (OR = -4.844; 95% CI, -7.521 to -2.167, p < 0.001). Significant multi-locus models were identified by generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) analyses on the serum 25(OH)Vit-D level (p = 0.006) and trabecular area (p = 0.044). In the gene-edited animal study, Wnt16 global knockout (KO) and wildtype (WT) male mice were provided with different Vit-D diets (control chow (1000 IU/Kg) vs. Vit-D-deficient chow (Nil in Vit-D) vs. high-dose Vit-D chow (20,000 IU/Kg)) from 4 weeks to 10 weeks old. Wnt16 global KO mice had significantly lower serum 25(OH)Vit-D levels and higher liver Vdbp mRNA expression levels than WT mice. In addition, Wnt16 global KO mice showed a decrease in bone density, cortical thickness and cortical area compared with WT mice. Interestingly, high-dose Vit-D chow led to lower bone density, cortical thickness, and cortical area in WT mice, which were less obvious in Wnt16 global KO mice. In conclusion, WNT16 may regulate the serum 25(OH)Vit-D level and bone qualities, which might be associated with VDBP expression. Further investigations with a larger sample size and wider spectrum of scoliosis severity are required to validate our findings regarding the interaction between WNT16 and Vit-D status in patients with AIS.

PURPOSE: To explore the stressors, coping strategies, and mental health of adolescents diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis. DESIGN AND METHODS: This study adopted a descriptive qualitative study design. Twelve participants were recruited from a local non-government organization in Hong Kong. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data. Verbatim transcriptions of interviews were coded and analyzed using thematic analysis. The guideline of the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Studies was used to report the findings. RESULTS: Five themes were identified: "Disease- and treatment-induced changes and stressors", "Cognitive assessment and personal perceptions", "Behavioral and emotional coping strategies", "Social interactions and social support", and "Deteriorating or thriving in psychological development and well-being". CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis experienced a variety of physical and psychological stressors. It is imperative to prioritize efforts to promote adaptive coping and activate social support systems to achieve better outcomes in this population. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Healthcare providers should aim to comprehend the experiences of adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis for improved clinical interactions and holistic care. Future research should prioritize coping-based interventions, to enhance adaptive coping behaviors and the well-being of this population.

BACKGROUND: The use of ultrasound has been reported to be beneficial in challenging neuraxial procedures. The angled probe is responsible for the main limitations of previous ultrasound-assisted techniques. We developed a novel technique for challenging lumbar puncture, aiming to locate the needle entry point which allowed for a horizontal and perpendicular needle trajectory and thereby addressed the drawbacks of earlier ultrasound-assisted techniques. CASE PRESENTATION: Patient 1 was an adult patient with severe scoliosis who underwent a series of intrathecal injections of nusinersen. The preprocedural ultrasound scan revealed a cephalad probe's angulation (relative to the edge of the bed) in the paramedian sagittal oblique view, and then the probe was rotated 90° into a transverse plane and we noted that a rocking maneuver was required to obtain normalized views. Then the shoulders were moved forward to eliminate the need for cephalad angulation of the probe. The degree of rocking was translated to a lateral offset from the midline of the spine through an imaginary lumbar puncture's triangle model, and a needle entry point was marked. The spinal needle was advanced through this marking-point without craniocaudal and lateromedial angulation, and first-pass success was achieved in all eight lumbar punctures. Patient 2 was an elderly patient with ankylosing spondylitis who underwent spinal anesthesia for transurethral resection of the prostate. The patient was positioned anteriorly obliquely to create a vertebral rotation that eliminated medial angulation in the paramedian approach. The procedure succeeded on the first pass. CONCLUSIONS: This ultrasound-assisted paramedian approach with a horizontal and perpendicular needle trajectory may be a promising technique that can help circumvent challenging anatomy. Larger case series and prospective studies are warranted to define its superiority to alternative approaches of lumbar puncture for patients with difficulties.

OBJECTIVES: Psychosocial interventions can improve teenagers' self-esteem, mental health and bracing compliance. There is a need to compile available evidence of psychosocial care in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. This systematic review aimed to identify and evaluate the effects of existing interventional studies of psychosocial care for the adolescent idiopathic scoliosis population. METHODS: A comprehensive search of relevant literature published from the inception to March 2023 was conducted using nine databases. A google scholar search was performed on 1 July 2023, to update the searching results. Two reviewers independently assessed the methodological quality and extracted details of the included studies. Given the heterogeneity of the selected articles, the findings were synthesized narratively without conducting a meta-analysis. RESULTS: Four randomized controlled trials reported in six articles involving 385 teenagers were included. The interventions appeared acceptable with high recruitment rates and low dropout rates reported. Psychosocial interventions had shown significant positive effects on postoperative pain, engagement in daily and social activities as well as brace use, coping abilities and anxiety. CONCLUSION: Psychosocial interventions are generally feasible and acceptable among the adolescent idiopathic scoliosis population and have produced positive effects on a variety of physical and psychosocial outcomes. Study findings need to be interpreted with caution due to the limited number of available articles and the methodological concerns of the reviewed articles. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Well-designed clinical trials are warranted in people from cultural backgrounds to develop and implement effective psychosocial interventions for teenagers with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, not only for those at the post-surgery stage but also for those receiving conservative treatment.

BACKGROUND: Spinal orthosis applications are preferred for conservative treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and holistic biomechanical approaches are recommended. METHODS: This was single-blind, prospective, randomized, controlled study. It included 42 patients (29 females/13 males) aged 10-18 years with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, Cobb angle of 20°-45°, who were deemed suitable for spinal orthosis use. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: control, spinal orthosis group (n = 21), and insoles and spinal orthosis group (n = 21). All participants used spinal orthoses for 3 months. This study evaluated the functional capacities, quality of life, balance, and plantar pressures of the participants. The evaluations were repeated after 1 week, and 3 months following spinal orthosis application. FINDINGS: Statistically significant difference and positive effect were observed in Cobb angle (p = 0.008; p = 0.878, respectively), right total (p = 0.037; p = 0.193, respectively), left total (p = 0.037; p = 0.193, respectively), left rearfoot (p = 0.002; p = 0.708, respectively), and right forefoot plantar pressure (p = 0.001; p = 0.739, respectively) in participants in insoles and spinal orthosis group compared with those in the control group. Statistically significant differences and positive effects were observed in swing length (p = 0.001; p = 0.053, respectively) and functional capacity (p = 0.005; p = 0.220, respectively), which are parameters related to postural balance. No change was found in quality of life of either group (p > 0.05). INTERPRETATION: Insoles may have positive impact on functional capacity, balance, and plantar pressure during long-term follow-up in individuals with scoliosis. Therefore, the evaluation of foot plantar pressure in individuals with scoliosis is recommended, and personalized insoles may be a beneficial option.

PURPOSE: To explore the effect of exercise intervention on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), various exercise forms were compared and the sequence of the possibility of improving the effect of each exercise form was sorted out. We expect that our findings will provide clinicians and patients with more effective treatments and references. METHOD: A thorough search was done on CNKI, Wanfang, WOS, Cochrane library, Embase, PubMed, Scopus and obtained the publication time from the database establishment to May 6, 2023. The relevant contents of the literature that passed the screening criteria were extracted, including relevant information about the sample, first author, intervention measures, intervention time, and outcome indicators. Analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.4 and Stata17.0. RESULT: The study finally included 12 articles with 538 samples. After comparison, it was found that exercise interventions to reduce Cobb's angle were more effective than conventional therapies and reached a statistically significant difference. Compared with conventional therapy, core strength training, Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercise (PSSE), yoga, Schroth, and sling reduced the Cobb angle by an average of 3.82 degrees, 3.79 degrees, 4.60 degrees, 3.63 degrees, and 3.30 degrees, respectively. However, the therapeutic effects on AIS did not show statistically significant differences between the exercise interventions. According to the SUCRA value and the cumulative probability, the MeanRank of improving the AIS effect by various sports intervention measures as follows: yoga (2.2), core strength training (2.8), PSSE (2.8), Schroth exercise (3.2), and sling exercise (4.0). CONCLUSION: Exercise intervention can significantly improve AIS. There was no significant difference in the improvement effect of AIS among different exercise forms. Yoga may have the best effect on AIS improvement.

Purpose As Google searches have often been found to provide inaccurate information regarding various treatments for orthopedic conditions, it becomes important to analyze search trends to understand what treatments are most popularly considered and the quality of information available. We sought to compare the public interest in popular adjunct/alternative scoliosis treatments to the published literature on these topics and assess any temporal trends in the public interest in these treatments. Methods The study authors compiled the most common adjunct/alternative treatments for scoliosis on PubMed. Chiropractic manipulation, Schroth exercises, physical therapy, pilates, and yoga, along with "scoliosis," were each entered into Google Trends, collected from 2004 to 2021. A linear regression analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was done to determine whether there was a linear relationship between Google Trends' popularity and PubMed publication data. The seasonal popularity of the terms was assessed using locally estimated scatterplot smoothing (LOESS) regression. Results Google Trends and publication frequency linear regression curves were different for chiropractic manipulation (p < 0.001), Schroth exercises (p < 0.001), physical therapy (p < 0.001), and pilates (p = 0.003). Chiropractic manipulation (p < 0.001), Schroth exercises (p = 0.003), and physical therapy (p < 0.001) had positive trends, and yoga (p < 0.001) had a negative trend. Chiropractic manipulation and yoga were more popular in the summer and winter months. Conclusion Google Trends can provide orthopedic surgeons and other healthcare professionals with valuable information on which treatments are gaining popularity with the public, so physicians may specifically inform themselves prior to patient encounters, leading to more productive shared decision-making.

PURPOSE: Anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) was introduced as a fusionless alternative to treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) while preserving range of motion (ROM). This is the first systematic review to compare the ROM outcomes between AVBT and PSF in treating AIS. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search on PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library. Inclusion criteria were patients with AIS treated with AVBT or PSF or both, and clearly defined ROM outcomes; exclusion criteria were scoliosis other than AIS, biomechanical or cadaveric studies, non-English publications, case reports, conference summaries, unpublished literature, commentaries, and reviews. Primary outcome was ROM. Secondary outcomes included Cobb angle correction, quality of life (QOL), complications, and muscle strength and endurance. RESULTS: Twelve studies were included in this review. We found moderate evidence to support that AVBT results in superior ROM outcomes than PSF while achieving comparable Cobb angle correction with low evidence. The comparison of QOL outcomes between AVBT and PSF remained inconclusive. In addition to the complications noted conventionally in PSF, AVBT could result in over-correction and distal adding-on. We also found very low evidence to support that AIS patients treated with AVBT have superior muscle strength and endurance when compared to those treated with PSF. CONCLUSIONS: AVBT provides better preservation of ROM and muscle strength postoperatively when compared with PSF, while achieving comparable curve correction. Future studies should explore the spinal growth trajectory to determine the window of opportunity for AVBT in AIS.

Background: This study presents findings on improvements to the Frontal and Sagittal Cobb angle, Global Spinal balance, and lung function parameters (FEV1, PEF) in an adult male with idiopathic scoliosis suffering from pain during ADL and sports activities who was treated with a biomechanically designed exercise protocol. Case Presentation: The 26-year-old male reported upper and middle back pain which worsened when playing cricket. Whole spine standing x-Ray AP view revealed a right thoracic Scoliosis (Lenke 1 curve) of Cobb angle 48.6° with left lumbar compensatory curve of 24.7°, Thoracic hypo kyphosis of 9.9°, and VAS rating for pain of 8. The patient was treated with myofascial release, stretching, aerobics, strengthening exercises, "Breathing with core" for stabilization, and biomechanically designed curve specific corrective exercises. Results: Re-assessment 32 weeks post intervention demonstrated significant reduction in the major Cobb angle by 13.8°, minor Cobb angle by 9.5°, Thoracic hypokyphosis normalized to 37.8°, Coronal balance improved by 17.4 mm, Sagittal balance regained by 4.2 mm, Spine ROM improved by a total of 6.5 cm, Enhancement of pulmonary function of FEV1 by 7% and PEF by 18 litres/min, and dramatic improvement in aesthetics and pain perception. Conclusion: The biomechanically designed exercise protocol helped straighten the curve through curve specific corrective exercises and stabilized the curve by "Breathing with core". It also treated the associated signs and symptoms of spinal pain syndrome by myofascial release and proper ergonomics, pulmonary dysfunction by aerobics, and muscle tightness and weakness (due to altered length-tension) by stretching and strengthening.

Cervical dystonia is a movement disorder characterized by continuous and involuntary muscular contractions that result in aberrant head and neck motions or postures. A recent study indicates that persons with a history of scoliosis may be at a higher risk of acquiring cervical dystonia later in life. Although muscular tension and contraction abnormalities are linked in both illnesses, the pathophysiological pathways linking these two ailments are not entirely understood. A 13-year-old boy previously diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis developed symptoms of cervical dystonia, including moderate neck pain, left-sided migraines, and tingling in the neck and shoulders. During the course of three months, the patient attended 16 chiropractic therapy sessions. He reported slow but considerable improvements in his symptoms, such as the recovery of normal cervical range of motion, decreases in neck discomfort and accompanying headaches as well as paresthesia, and enhancements in sleep quality, daily functioning, and learning capacities. The patient's clinical and radiographic improvements show that chiropractic spinal manipulation may assist in reducing pain and improving spine alignment and mobility in these circumstances. To further investigate the efficacy and safety of chiropractic therapy for the treatment of cervical dystonia, particularly in the setting of associated scoliosis, more study with bigger patient populations is required.

Scoliosis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can cause significant pain and disability. RA has been extensively studied in relation to the cervical spine, yet the pathology of the thoracic and lumbar spine in RA patients has been largely overlooked. A 66-year-old woman, with longstanding RA and severe scoliosis, presented to the chiropractic clinic with a five-month history of exacerbated low back pain radiating to the right lower limb. The patient was treated with a combination of full-spine mechanical spinal distraction, spinal manipulative therapy, mechanical distraction of the cervical spine, and soft tissue treatment (scraping therapy). Thereafter, the patient recovered from the pain and radiculopathy and showed improvements in the radiological parameters, walking gait, and postural balance. Radiography was performed at the 12-month, four-year, and eight-year follow-up appointments and revealed improvements in symptoms, posture, and scoliosis. Although the treatment for RA-related scoliosis is similar to that for other types of scoliosis, due to the nature of RA, treatment should be tailored to individual patients. This case report highlights the importance of considering chiropractic therapy for the management of lumbar scoliosis in patients with RA, as a comprehensive treatment plan resulted in improved spinal balance, mobility, gait, posture, and quality of life.

PURPOSE: The study aimed to examine the outcomes of posterior approach transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) in the treatment of degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) based on the concept of intervertebral correction. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 76 surgical patients (36 males and 40 females) who underwent posterior TLIF and internal fixation based on the concept of intervertebral correction in Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from February 2014 to March 2021.The operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, incision length, and complications were recorded. Clinical efficacy was evaluated preoperatively and postoperative time points through the visual analog scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI). The changes in the coronal scoliosis curve (Cobb angle), coronal balance distance (CBD), the sagittal vertical axis (SVA), lumbar lordosis (LL), and pelvic tilt angle (PT) were assessed perioperatively at the last follow-up. RESULTS: All patients successfully underwent the operation. The average operation duration was 243.81 ± 35.35 (220 - 350) min; the average intraoperative blood loss was 836.27 ± 50.28 (700 - 2500) mL; the average incision length was 8.30 ± 2.33 (8 - 15) cm. The total complication rate was 18.42% (14/76). The VAS score of low back pain, lower extremity pain, and ODI score of patients at the last follow-up was significantly improved compared with those before the operation (P < 0.05). At the last follow-up, the Cobb Angle, CBD, SVA, and PT of patients were significantly lower than those before the operation (P < 0.05), and LL was higher than those before the operation (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: TLIF based on the concept of intervertebral correction for the treatment of DLS may provide favourable clinical outcomes.

The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between sensory integration and balance deficits as well as scoliotic changes in young schoolgirls. The study comprised 54 girls aged 11 years with scoliotic changes. The Clinical Test of Sensory Integration and Balance of the Biodex Balance System platform were used to analyze the deficits in sensory integration and balance. Scoliotic changes were assessed using the Diers Formetric III 4D optoelectronic method. In the present study, there was a significant relationship between sensory integration and balance deficits as well as spine curvature angle (°) (p = 0.01), vertebral surface rotation (°) (p = 0.03), pelvic tilt (°) (p = 0.02), and lateral deviation (mm) (p = 0.04). The integration of the sensory systems has a positive effect on the structure of the intended and controlled movement as well as body posture and the development of the spine. In the treatment of scoliotic changes, one should also consider exercises that improve sensory integration as well as position and balance reactions.

BACKGROUND: Children with idiopathic scoliosis (IS) have a high risk of osteoporosis and IS with low bone mineral density (BMD) are susceptible to curve progression. This review aims to explore the risk factors of low BMD in children with IS. METHODS: Studies were retrieved from 5 databases that were published up to January 2022. Search terms are keywords in titles or abstracts, including subject headings related to "Scoliosis", "Bone Mineral Density", and "Risk Factors". Observational studies on risk factors of low BMD in children with IS were enrolled in this review. The number of studies, sample size, outcome measures, research type, endocrine, and lifestyle-related factors, gene/signal pathway, and other contents were extracted for qualitative analysis. RESULTS: A total of 56 studies were included in this scoping review. Thirty studies involved genetic factors that may affect BMD, including the Vitamin-D receptor gene, RANK/RANKL signal pathway, the function of mesenchymal stem cells, Runx2, Interleukin-6 (IL-6), and miR-145/ß-catenin pathway. Eight studies mentioned the influence of endocrine factors on BMD, and the results showed that serum levels of IL-6, leptin and its metabolites, and ghrelin in children with IS were different from the age-matched controls. In addition, there were 18 articles on lifestyle-related factors related to low BMD in children with IS, consisting of physical activity, calcium intake, Vitamin D level, and body composition. CONCLUSIONS: Genetic, endocrine, and lifestyle-related factors might relate to low BMD and even osteoporosis in IS. To prevent osteoporosis, the effectiveness of regular screening for low BMD risk factors in children with IS needs to be investigated. Additionally, clear risk factors suggest strategies for bone intervention. Future studies should consider the effectiveness of calcium and vitamin D supplements and physical activity in BMD improvement.

INTRODUCTION: Exercise therapy is frequently used for treating patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) however no previous review has evaluated the effect of exercise therapy on pulmonary function in this population. OBJECTIVE: To systematically analyze the literature on the effect of exercise therapy on pulmonary function in patients with AIS. METHODS: A systematic electronic database search (CINAHL, Embase, Medline, Web of Science) was conducted. Manual searches of key reviews and studies were also conducted. Studies that included exercise-based interventions to improve pulmonary function in patients with AIS and reported pre- and post-intervention pulmonary function test scores were included. Test scores were compared using standardized mean difference (SMD) between intervention and control groups in randomized control trials (RCT) and mean ± SD between pre- and post-intervention in prospective intervention studies (PI). Methodological quality was assessed using a modified Downs and Black checklist. RESULTS: Fifteen studies met the inclusion criteria (six RCTs and nine PIs). Results indicated the positive effect of exercise-based therapy on lung volumes (FVC/VC) and FEV1 in patients with AIS. CONCLUSION: Exercise therapy has a positive effect on lung volumes in patients with AIS. The quality of many studies was only 'fair,' therefore more suitably powered higher level clinical trials are required.

In recent decades, a promising area of physiotherapy has been intensively developed In Russia and abroad - magnetic therapy, based on the use of various types of magnetic fields for preventive, curative and rehabilitative purposes. The use of high-intensity pulsed magnetotherapy is promising. The effectiveness of the method in a number of diseases of childhood, which has an active stimulating effect on the state of the neuromuscular apparatus, has been proven.

Objective: To observe the immediate effect of small-angle Tui-Pushing and An-Pressing anti-rotation bone-setting manipulation in improving the correction of braces for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: A total of 50 cases of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were selected and given brace correction first. The whole spine anteroposterior and lateral radiographs were taken, the Cobb angle was measured, and the visual analog scale (VAS) score of pain caused by brace wearing was recorded. After removal of the brace, small-angle Tui-Pushing and An-Pressing anti-rotation bone-setting manipulation was performed once. After treatment, the same brace was put on again to take a whole spine anteroposterior radiograph, the Cobb angle was measured, and the VAS score was recorded. The changes in Cobb angle and VAS score after manipulation were compared, and the immediate efficacy was evaluated. Results: After the manipulation, the Cobb angle was significantly smaller than that before treatment (P<0.01) and the VAS score was significantly lower than that before treatment (P<0.01). Conclusion: Small-angle Tui-Pushing and An-Pressing anti-rotation bone-setting manipulation can improve the immediate efficacy of brace in treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and relieve the pain caused by brace wearing at the same time.

The assessment of posture and asymmetries is common in musculoskeletal clinical practice, and correction is a frequent goal. In this setting, posture and asymmetries are usually interpreted in terms of musculoskeletal issues. This study aimed to evaluate spinal asymmetries in case studies of unilateral nephroptosis. A systematic review was performed using PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science. We included case reports and case series of nephroptotic patients which showed diagnostic imaging that allowed us to assess the presence of spinal asymmetries in the frontal plane. The methodological quality of the selected studies was assessed by using Case Report (CARE) checklist. Nineteen studies were included, with a total number of 78 reported patients (69 women) ranging 22 to 44 years old (mean: 29). Only one patient presented with medial nephroptosis, while the rest presented with caudal migration. Ninety-one percent of the cases affected to the right kidney. All cases but two showed homolateral flank closure (lower rib descent, iliac crest raise and/or homolateral side-bending). The correction of nephroptosis, either by supine position or surgical treatment, removed asymmetries in some cases while other cases improved only partly. Manual therapists must consider visceral implications while assessing body posture. Further, since the most common symptom of nephroptosis is loin pain, and it has been claimed that loin pain is underdiagnosed, manual therapists should consider its potential presence during clinical practice. Finally, being that nephroptosis shares several features with idiopathic lumbar scoliosis (type of patient, postural adaptation), more research is needed regarding any possible relation between them.
