Despite a large burden of life-limitingillness, there exists a dearth of services of palliative care in Pakistan. International guidelines have questionable applicability in Pakistan due to the socioeconomic differences. We generated a protocol describing the process of developing comprehensive palliative care guidelines and palliative care referral pathways for primary care practitioners to adopt in Pakistan. A GRADE-ADOLOPMENT approach with modification has been employed to create guidelines for a Pakistani context. The "National Comprehensive Cancer Network Guidelines Insights: Palliative Care, Version 2.2021" was used as the source guideline. Recommendations from the source guideline were reviewed by two local palliative care specialists to either "Adopt," "Adapt" or "Exclude". The finalized recommendations were incorporated into the local palliative care guideline. Clinical diagnosis and referral pathways were made from the finalized guideline. Any gaps in management found in the pathways were filled by taking existing recommendations from other credible guidelines. Twenty-seven recommendations were adopted without modification. No recommendations were deemed to be adapted and 15 were excluded. The referral care pathways created were reflective of the local guideline and included elements of initial assessment, preliminary management, reassessment, and referral. 6 additional recommendations were made. The described clinical practice guidelines and primary care clinical referral pathways will aid to standardize palliative care provision in Pakistan. These can be used by other resource constrained settings to develop guidelines within their own local context.

Introducción: Los antioxidantes vegetales tienen la capacidad de limpiar el exceso de radicales libres, inhibir la oxidación de los lípidos y reducir la formación de hidroperóxido, lo que podría proteger al organismo del estrés oxidativo.Objetivo: Identificar el consumo de frutas, verduras y su relación con la salud mental en estudiantes de ciencias de la salud.Métodos: Estudio transversal, correlacional, realizado en 510 estudiantes de universidades públicas y privadas de ciencias de la salud. Los datos fueron obtenidos a partir de dos cuestionarios uno de frecuencia de consumo de 23 frutas y 17 verduras y otro fue para medir el nivel de depresión, ansiedad y estrés. Se realizó la prueba estadística Chi-cuadrado.Resultados: El 60,4% y el 6,9% presentó un nivel alto y leve de depresión, ansiedad y estrés respectivamente, por otro lado, el sexo femenino presenta mayor depresión, ansiedad y estrés que los varones (p=0,005). Existe asociación entre la salud mental con el consumo de frutas, como la cocona (p=0,029), los arándanos (p=0,005), sandía (p=0,016) y el plátano (p=0,009), así mismo no se encontró relación con el consumo de verduras (p>0,05).Conclusión: Existe un bajo consumo de frutas y verduras en los estudiantes de Ciencias de la Salud, sin embargo, las frutas que disminuyen el nivel de depresión, ansiedad y estrés fueron el arándano, cocona, sandía y plátano. Es necesario mejorar e implementar estrategias de difusión para el consumo de frutas y verduras lo cual conlleva a mejorar la salud mental y física.(AU)


Introduction: Plant antioxidants have the ability to scav-enge excess free radicals, inhibit lipid oxidation and reducehydroperoxide formation, which could protect the body fromoxidative stress.Objective: To identify the consumption of fruits, vegeta-bles and their relationship with mental health in health sci-ence students.Methods: Cross-sectional, correlational study, carried out on510 students from public and private universities of health sci-ences. The age of the students was 18 to 35 years old, 73.7%were women and 26.3% men. The questionnaire on the fre-quency of consumption of fruits and vegetables was validated by expert judgment that includes 23 fruits and 17 vegetablesand to measure the level of mental health the questionnaireconsists of 21 items that consider depression, anxiety and stresswhich was validated by Colchado et al. The association of thevariables was analyzed through the Chi-square statistical test.Results: 60.4% and 6.9% presented a high and mild levelof depression, anxiety and stress respectively. Females pres-ent greater depression, anxiety and stress than males(p=0.005). There is an association between mental healthand the consumption of cocona (p=0.029), blueberries(p=0.005), watermelon (p=0.016) and banana (p=0.009). Noassociation was found with vegetable consumption (p>0.05).Conclusion: There is a low consumption of fruits and veg-etables in Health Sciences students, however, those who ob-tained a mild level of depression consumed more fruits suchas blueberry, coconut, watermelon and banana. It is neces-sary to implement dissemination strategies for the daily con-sumption of fruits and vegetables which leads to improve ormaintain physical and mental health.(AU)

Introducción: El portafolio es un instrumento de aprendizaje y de evaluación que permite a los estudiantes conocer cómo se desarrolla su aprendizaje y autoevaluarse. Objetivo. Describir la percepción de estudiantes de kinesiología respecto al uso de un portafolio digital como instrumento didáctico en el desarrollo de prácticas intermedias. Sujetos y métodos: Estudio observacional, descriptivo, que busca describir la percepción de estudiantes de kinesiología frente al uso de un portafolio digital en el desarrollo y seguimiento de prácticas intermedias de la actividad curricular de geriatría. Resultados: En general, para las dimensiones que evalúan la percepción de los estudiantes en esta metodología docente y evaluativa, un 72% reconoce que los materiales de aprendizaje son muy buenos, seguidos de la dimensión sistema de tutorías, con un 53% de las respuestas de forma satisfactoria, y la de los recursos de la plataforma en línea, con un 42% que la conceptualiza como buena. Conclusiones: La percepción de los estudiantes se describe como positiva en los distintos ítems de evaluación de la estrategia didáctica.(AU)


Introduction: The portfolio is a tool that allows students to account for their learning and assessment processes. Objective: To describe the self-perception of kinesiology students regarding the use of the e-portfolio as a didactic tool for the development of intermediate practices. Subjects and methods. Observational study that aims to describe the self-perception of kinesiology students regarding the use of e-portfolios for the development and monitoring of intermediate practices of the geriatric’s curricular activity. Results: In general, regarding the dimensions that evaluate the self-perception of the students on this learning and assessment tool, a 72% recognize that the learning materials are very good, followed by the tutorial system dimension with a 53% of the responses as satisfactory and the resources of the online platform with a 42% considering the latter as good. Conclusions: The self-perception of the students is described as positive in the different items of evaluation of the didactic strategy.(AU)

BACKGROUND: Strengthening obstetric nurses' and midwives' health education competence is the investment and guarantee for the population's future health. The purpose of study is to establish national norms for their health education competence, and explore possible influencing factors for providing an uniform criterion identifying levels and weaknesses. METHODS: An online questionnaire with a standard process was used to collect data. Three normative models were constructed, and multiple linear regression analysis analyzed possible influencing factors. RESULTS: The sample respondents (n = 3027) represented obstetric nurses and midwives nationally. Three health education competency normative norms (mean, percentile and demarcation norm) were constructed separately. Locations, hospital grade, department, marital status, training times and satisfaction with health education training influenced obstetrical nurses' and midwives' health education competence (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: This study constructed the first national standard for assessing obstetric nurses' and midwives' health education competence, providing a scientific reference to evaluate the degree of health education competence directly. These known factors could help clinical and policy managers designate practice improvement measures. In future research, Grade I hospitals should be studied with larger sample sizes, and indicators need to improve to reflect health education's effect better.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although signals have been used in the residency application process by other specialties, family medicine residency directors have not previously participated. With applicant signal information available for the first time in the 2023-2024 application cycle, the current study describes family medicine residency program directors' intended use of signals and provides benchmarking descriptive data that may help inform best practices and future studies. METHODS: A total of 691 of the 745 family medicine program directors in US family medicine residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education were surveyed. We used ꭓ2 and Pearson correlation analyses to examine how program directors of family medicine residency programs intended to use signaling and their perceived impact of signaling on the residency interviewing process. RESULTS: Most program directors indicated that applicant signals would assist them in deciding who to invite for an interview and would be a positive factor in a holistic review process. However, program directors also noted that rotation experience or geographic ties would be more powerful inducements to interview or rank a specific candidate. Program directors did not indicate a belief that signals would decrease interview season stress or workload. CONCLUSIONS: Signals may play an important role in the residency application process for family medicine in 2023-2024. While signals are not anticipated to decrease application workload or stress, a signal may be an important mechanism for a specific applicant to distinguish themselves with a program.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Interest in using holistic review for residency recruitment as a strategy to improve the diversity of the physician workforce has increased. However, no data are published on the prevalence of holistic review in the selection process for family medicine residency programs. We designed this study to assess programs' knowledge, skills, and attitudes; prevalence; barriers to implementation; and program characteristics associated with the use of holistic review. METHODS: Data for this study were elicited as part of a 2023 survey conducted by the Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance. The nationwide, web-based survey was sent to 739 family medicine residency program directors. RESULTS: A total of 309 program directors completed the holistic review portion of the survey. Programs that understood and agreed with holistic review used it more in their selection process. Holistic review was more common in programs with higher rates of residents, faculty, and patients that are underrepresented in medicine. Barriers to holistic review utilization were increased number of applicants, increased resources associated with holistic review, and lack of consensus on the holistic review approach. CONCLUSIONS: The holistic review process is an area of growing interest to diversify the physician workforce, especially among residencies caring for underresourced communities. Further discussions on the specific scoring rubrics of family medicine residency programs that use holistic review are needed and could help programs that are facing barriers. Widespread use of holistic review to diversify the physician workforce has the potential to improve patient care access and health.

There are the differences in the location of some acupoints between textbooks Meridians and Acupoints and Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Both of the textbooks are in the category of the "14th Five-Year Plan". The differences in acupoint location have brought some confusion for students, full-time teachers and researchers in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. In the paper, based on GB/T 12346-2021: Nomenclature and Location of Meridian Points, published in2021, and in reference with GB/T 12346-2006: Nomenclature and Location of Acupuncture Points, published in 2006, the discrepancy in the acupoint location was systematically collated in the aspects of the expression style and layout, text expression and potential difference of location between these two textbooks, published by China Press of Traditional Chinese Medicine, People's Medical Publishing House and China Science Publishing. Based on the historical evolution and the academic controversy of acupoint positioning, the reasons of the differences in acupoint location were analyzed, the potential influences on the teaching, examination, competition and research of Chinese medicine acupuncture were explored, and the suggestions for solution were proposed.

AIM: Different clinical practice guidelines include recommendations on how to prevent and repair obstetric perineal trauma, as well as the use of episiotomy. To evaluate the variability in midwives' professional practices for preventing and repairing perineal trauma, as well as the professional factors that may be associated with the restrictive use of episiotomy. DESIGN: Observational cross-sectional study. METHODS: Three hundred five midwives completed an anonymous questionnaire developed by the authors and distributed across various midwifery scientific societies. The main outcomes measured were the frequencies of adopting specific practices related to perineal injury prevention and repair, episiotomy technique and restrictive episiotomy use (<10%). Odds ratios (OR) and adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals were estimated. RESULTS: Intrapartum perineal massage was not normally used by 253 (83%) of midwives, and 186 (61%) applied compresses soaked in warm water to the perineum. Regarding episiotomy, there was a great deal of variability, noting that 129 (42.3%) adopted a restrictive use of this procedure, 125 (41%) performed it between 10% and 20%, while 51 midwives (16.7%) performed it in more than 20% of cases. In addition, 165 (54.1%) midwives followed an incision angle of 60º. Concerning tears, 155 (50.8%) usually sutured first-degree tears and 273 (89.5%) always sutured second-degree tears. Midwives attending home births (aOR = 6.5; 95% CI: 2.69-15.69), working at a teaching hospital (aOR = 3.69; 95% CI: 1.39-9.84), and the ones who recently completed their professional training (aOR = 3.58; 95% CI: 1.46-8.79) were significantly more likely to adopt a restrictive use of episiotomy. CONCLUSIONS: There is a significant variability in Spanish midwives' practices for preventing and repairing perineal tears. Moreover, the restrictive use of episiotomy is associated with midwives attending home births, working in teaching hospitals and having recent professional training. It is well established that the integration of behavioral healthcare into the medical home model improves patient outcomes, reduces costs, and increases resident learning. As academic health centers increasingly integrate behavioral healthcare, targeted training for interprofessional collaboration around behavioral healthcare is needed. Simulation educational approaches potentially can provide this training. Health service psychologists are well-poised to support this because of their specialized training in integrated healthcare. The present exploratory study aimed to evaluate existing simulation programs and develop recommendations for integrated behavioral health training and evaluation. Directors of ACGME accredited residency programs that are high utilizers of the medical home model (Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, Family Medicine) as well as Psychiatry residencies and medical schools with membership in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare were recruited to complete a 26-item survey to assess program usage of psychologists as part of simulation training for integrated behavioral healthcare services. Of 79 participants who completed initial items describing their training program, only 32 programs completed the entire survey. While many academic health centers offered integrated team and behavioral health simulations, few utilized psychology faculty in design, implementation, and evaluation. Other behavioral health providers (psychiatrists, social workers) were often involved in medical school and pediatric residency simulations. Few institutions use standardized evaluation. Qualitative feedback and faculty-written questionnaires were often used to evaluate efficacy. Survey responses suggest that psychologists play limited roles in integrated behavioral healthcare simulation despite their expertise in interdisciplinary training, integrated behavioral healthcare, and program evaluation.

Background: Nurses should have appropriate education and required competencies to provide high-quality palliative care. The aim of this international multisite study was to list and evaluate core palliative care competencies that European nurses need to achieve in their education to provide palliative care. Methods: The Nominal Group Technique (NGT) was used as a data collection method. NGT meetings were organized in four European countries. Targeted groups of palliative care professionals with diverse contextual and professional backgrounds participated in the NGTs. The research question was: "What are the core competencies in palliative care that need to be achieved during undergraduate nursing education?" Data analysis was done in two stages: grouping the top 10 answers based on similarities and thematic synthesis based on all the ideas produced during the NGTs. Results: Palliative care core competencies based on the research were (1) competence in the characteristics of palliative care; (2) competence in decision-making and enabling palliative care; (3) symptom management competence in palliative care; (4) competence in holistic support in palliative care; (5) active person- and family-centered communication competence in palliative care; (6) competence in empathy in palliative care; (7) spiritual competence in palliative care; (8) competence in ethical and legal issues in palliative care; (9) teamwork competence in palliative care; and (10) self-awareness and self-reflection competence in palliative care. Conclusions: It was possible to find differences and similarities in the top 10 palliative care core competencies from different countries. Thematic synthesis of all the data showed that there were various competencies needed for nursing students to provide quality palliative care.

O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a percepção dos alunos do Ensino Médio em relação às lutas enquanto unidade temática nas aulas de Educação Física. Para tanto, a pesquisa se caracterizou como de natureza aplicada, do tipo descritiva, com a participação de 17 alunos do Ensino Médio. A pesquisa foi realizada em dois momentos, sendo o primeiro referente ao desenvolvimento de uma intervenção pedagógica do conteúdo de lutas, e o segundo a partir da aplicação de um questionário. Os resultados apontaram que 82% dos participantes usufruíram de uma prática positiva e prazerosa e 94% dos participantes afirmaram ausência de violência. Assim, compreende-se que as lutas na escola se configuram como um mediador na transformação das apreciações de concepções pelos participantes (AU).


The aim of the study was to analyze the perception of high school students in relation to martial arts as a content in Physical Education classes. Therefore, the research was characterized as being of an applied nature, of the descriptive type, with the participation of 17 high school students. The research was carried out in two moments, the first one referring to the development of a pedagogical intervention on the content of martial arts, and the second one based on the application of a questionnaire. The results showed that 82% of the participants en-joyed a positive and pleasant practice and 94% of the participants stated that there was no violence in the classes. Thus, it is understood that the development of martial arts at school was configured as a mediator in the transformation of the appreciation of conceptions by the participants (AU).


El objetivo del estudio fue analizar la percepción de los estu-diantes de secundaria en relación a las peleas como unidad temática en las clases de Educación Física. Por lo tanto, la investigación se caracterizó por ser de carácter aplicada, de tipo descriptiva, con la participación de 17 estudiantes de secundaria. La investigación se realizó en dos momen-tos, el primero referido al desarrollo de una intervención pedagógica so-bre el contenido de las peleas, y el segundo a partir de la aplicación de un cuestionario. Los resultados mostraron que el 82% de los participantes disfrutaron de una práctica positiva y agradable y el 94% de los pantes afirmó que no hubo violencia en las clases. Así, se entiende que el desarrollo de las luchas en la escuela se configuró como un mediador en la transformación de la apreciación de las concepciones por parte de los participantes (AU).

BACKGROUND: Maternal infections remain a significant contributor to maternal mortality worldwide. Majority of births in northern Nigeria occur at home and are attended by Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). Little has been documented about their knowledge and practice on infection prevention and control practices in Kano, northern Nigeria. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the level as well as factors associated with TBAs' infection prevention and control knowledge and practices. METHODS: The study is the baseline phase of a quasi-experimental study, conducted in a rural LGA in Kano State, Nigeria. Using an adapted tool, 163 eligible TBAs were surveyed. Knowledge and practice of IPC were scored, aggregated, and dichotomized into good or poor. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to predict knowledge and practice of IPC. RESULTS: Majority (79.1%) of the TBAs exhibited poor IPC knowledge but many (78.5%) reported good practice. Good knowledge of IPC was predicted by the TBAs' age: a six-fold increased likelihood (AOR=6.25, 95% CI: 1.02- 38.53) and almost five-fold increased likelihood (AOR=4.75, 95% CI: 1.39- 16.24) for those in their second and fourth decades of life. TBAs who reported poor practice of IPC were 83% less likely (AOR=0.17, 95% CI: 0.03- 0.92) to have good knowledge of IPC. TBAs' practice was only linked to previous training (AOR=0.17, 95% CI: 0.04- 0.76). CONCLUSION: TBAs knowledge of IPC was low although reported practice was good. The need for tailored training interventions to enhance knowledge and skills for safe delivery care is paramount to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.


CONTEXTE: Les infections maternelles restent une contribution significative à la mortalité maternelle dans le monde. La majorité des accouchements dans le nord du Nigeria ont lieu à domicile et sont assistés par des TBA. Peu de choses ont été documentées sur leurs connaissances et leurs pratiques en matière de prévention et de contrôle des infections à Kano, dans le nord du Nigeria. OBJECTIFS: Cette étude a évalué le niveau de connaissances et de pratiques des TBA en matière de prévention et de contrôle des infections, ainsi que les facteurs associés. MÉTHODES: L'étude est la phase de base d'une étude quasiexpérimentale, menée dans une LGA rurale de l'État de Kano, au Nigeria. En utilisant un outil adapté, 163 TBA éligibles ont été interrogés. Les connaissances et les pratiques en matière de PCI ont été évaluées, agrégées et dichotomisées en bonnes ou mauvaises. Une analyse de régression logistique binaire a été utilisée pour prédire les connaissances et les pratiques en matière de PCI. RÉSULTATS: La majorité (79,1 %) des TBA présentaient des connaissances médiocres en PCI, mais beaucoup (78,5 %) ont déclaré avoir de bonnes pratiques. De bonnes connaissances en PCI étaient prédites par l'âge des TBA : une probabilité multipliée par six (AOR=6,25, IC à 95 % : 1,02-38,53) et presque multipliée par cinq (AOR=4,75, IC à 95 % : 1,39-16,24) pour ceux dans leur deuxième et quatrième décennies de vie. Les TBA qui ont déclaré une mauvaise pratique de la PCI étaient 83 % moins susceptibles (AOR=0,17, IC à 95 % : 0,03-0,92) d'avoir de bonnes connaissances en PCI. La pratique des TBA était uniquement liée à une formation antérieure (AOR=0,17, IC à 95 % : 0,04­0,76). CONCLUSION: Les connaissances des TBA en matière de PCI étaient faibles bien que les pratiques déclarées étaient bonnes. La nécessité d'interventions de formation sur mesure pour améliorer les connaissances et les compétences en matière de soins de l'accouchement sécurisés est primordiale pour améliorer les résultats maternels et néonatals. "Ningbo oriental acupuncture-moxibustion society" was founded in 1930 by ZHANG Junyi. At that era, the enrollment conditions were flexible, the disciplines of warm moxibustion and acupuncture-moxibustion were set and taught by means of face-to-face class and correspondence one. The teaching content included the knowledge of western learning and traditional theory of acupuncture-moxibustion. The Society issued two periodicals, MedicalNewspaper of Warm Moxibustion and Oriental Acupuncture and Moxibustion, the staffs of the Society compiled teaching materials such as Warm Moxibustion and Advanced Acupuncture-Moxibustion, translated relevant books and improved the device and herbal medicine of warm moxibustion. The students trained in the Society worked all of the country and engaged in various professional fields. "Ningbo oriental acupuncture-moxibustion society" has cultivated a large number of excellent talents, adhering the teaching concept of integration of Chinese and western medicine, and has made the contribution to the preservation of precious literature, and promoting the innovation of acupuncture-moxibustion technology and the dissemination of warm moxibustion.

Context: In China, the dearth of adept rehabilitation nurses has escalated into a pressing concern. Conventional nursing education has stymied nurses' autonomous scholarly pursuits. The case-teaching methodology can augment students' competencies and zeal, culminating in the enrichment of educational excellence. Objective: The study intended to elucidate the principles, taxonomy, and enactment of the case-teaching methodology and examine its salutary impacts on nursing practitioners and educators. Design: The research team performed a narrative review by searching BMJ Best Practice, OVID EBM, NGC et al databases. The search used the keywords 'Rehabilitation nursing', 'nursing', 'case teaching method'. Setting: The study took place at the Rehabilitation Medicine Center at West China Hospital of Sichuan University in Chengdu, China. Results: The current study scrutinizes the assimilation of the case-teaching methodology within the realm of nursing, dissects emerging paradigms in the standardized training of rehabilitation nursing staff, and furnishes precedents for the evolution of training frameworks in the field of rehabilitative care. Conclusions: The case-teaching methodology not only serves as an instructional tool but also embodies a fundamental transformation in the modernization of nursing education, embodying the aspiration for excellence, the desire for continuous improvement, and a dedication to the highest standards of patient care.

BACKGROUND: Regional anaesthesia plays an important role in perioperative care, but gaps in proficiency persist among consultants and specialists. This study aimed to assess confidence levels in performing Plan A blocks among this cohort and to examine the barriers and facilitators influencing regional anaesthesia education. METHODS: Utilising a mixed-methods design, we performed a quantitative survey to gauge self-reported confidence in performing Plan A blocks, coupled with qualitative interviews to explore the complexities of educational barriers and facilitators. UK consultant and specialist anaesthetists were included in the study. RESULTS: A total of 369 survey responses were analysed. Only 22% of survey respondents expressed confidence in performing all Plan A blocks. Specialists (odds ratio [OR] 0.391, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.179-0.855, P=0.016) and those in their roles for >10 yr (OR 0.551, 95% CI 0.327-0.927, P = 0.024) reported lower confidence levels. A purposive sample was selected for interviews, and data saturation was reached at 31 interviews. Peer-led learning emerged as the most effective learning modality for consultants and specialists. Barriers to regional anaesthesia education included apprehensions regarding complications, self-perceived incompetence, lack of continuing professional development time, insufficient support from the multidisciplinary team, and a lack of inclusivity within the regional anaesthesia community. Organisational culture had a substantial impact, with the presence of local regional anaesthesia champions emerging as a key facilitator. CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights persistent perceived deficiencies in regional anaesthesia skills among consultants and specialists. We identified multiple barriers and facilitators, providing insights for targeted interventions aimed at improving regional anaesthesia education in this group.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the risk perceptions of midwifery and nursing senior students regarding COVID-19 and compliance with vaccination and protective measures. METHOD: This cross-sectional study was conducted in two academic years on senior midwifery and nursing students (n = 358). In the present study, the descriptive characteristics of the students and the COVID-19 risk perception scale were used. RESULTS: The students' COVID-19 Risk Perception Scale scores were at a moderate level and a similar level in both years of this study. More than 80% of the students were fully vaccinated, and the family history of COVID-19 was positive in approximately half of them. In the second year of the pandemic, they paid less attention to social distance and avoidance of being indoors. CONCLUSION: Although the COVID-19 risk perceptions of future health professional students remained at a similar level during the examined period, it was found that in the second year of the pandemic, they started to get used to the process and paid less attention to social protective measures.

BACKGROUND: The Vietnam midwifery report acknowledges that while health services are available in Vietnam, there is growing need to increase levels of respectful maternal care provided to women in labour. OBJECTIVE: In conjunction with newborns Vietnam charity, our objective was to assess the perceived continuous professional development needs of midwives working in Vietnam to inform development of an intranatal respectful maternal care education resource. METHOD: A qualitative exploratory descriptive method was used to conduct a training needs analysis, which identified perceived education requirements of midwives in Vietnam in relation to providing respectful maternal care. PARTICIPANTS: A convenience sample of midwives (n = 49) participated in the study. DATA-COLLECTION: Eight on-line focus groups were carried out in four hospitals (maternity units) across Vietnam using WebEx, with the interview schedule informed by the World Health Organization guide for delivering intrapartum care for a positive birth experience. DATA-ANALYSIS: Data were transcribed into English and analysed using the 6-steps of thematic analysis outlined by Braun and Clark. FINDINGS: Three themes and 9 sub-themes were developed from the data. The first theme addressed aspects that contribute towards creating a positive birth experience; the second theme observed barriers to changing practice; and the third theme noted that there are a variety of preferred teaching methods. CONCLUSIONS: In response to the training needs analysis, a respectful maternal care education resource has been designed to transform selected areas of intranatal care in Vietnam. Integrating the respectful maternal care educational resource into midwives' continuous professional development in Vietnam is intended to increase women's rights to have safe childbirth, which accommodates choice and control, and promotes a positive birth experience. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Post-completion and evaluation, we hope that the intranatal respectful maternal care educational resource will be rolled out to all practising midwives in Vietnam.

BACKGROUND: Family Integrated Care (FICare) integrates parents as partners in neonatal intensive care unit care. Our team adapted and implemented this approach in a Ugandan unit for hospitalized neonates. PURPOSE: This qualitative descriptive study examined the perceptions of mothers and healthcare professionals (HCPs) of the benefits and challenges of this new approach to care. METHODS: Fifty-one mothers of hospitalized neonates born weighing greater than 2000 g participated in the program. They were taught to assess neonate danger signs, feeding, and weight. After discharge, a subsample (n = 15) participated in focus groups to explore benefits and challenges of their participation in care. Interviews with 8 HCPs were also conducted for the same purpose. Transcripts from focus groups and interviews were analyzed using inductive content analysis to describe the benefits and challenges from the perspectives of mothers and HCPs. RESULTS: For mothers a benefit was decreased stress. Both mothers and HCPs reported that the knowledge and skills mothers acquired were a benefit as was their ability to apply these to the care of their neonate. Improved relations between mothers and HCPs were described, characterized by greater exchange of information and HCPs' attentiveness to mothers' assessments. Mothers felt ready for discharge and used their knowledge at home. HCPs noted a decrease in their workload. Challenges included the need for mothers to overcome fears about performing the tasks, their own well-being and literacy skills, and access to equipment. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Mothers' participation in their neonates' care can have benefits for them and their neonate.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this scoping review is to map the volume and nature (topics, study designs, regions) of chiropractic education research relating to chiropractic learners and programs worldwide. INTRODUCTION: Education of the health workforce is critical to reach population health goals. Chiropractic educational programs are expanding globally; however, the state of chiropractic education research is not known. A better understanding of the volume and nature of chiropractic education research will inform education research priorities and development of chiropractic programs, and assist with preparing a stronger chiropractic workforce to address world health goals. INCLUSION CRITERIA: This scoping review will consider articles that study students, faculty, administration, staff, graduates, and programs in any chiropractic education setting, including graduate, clinical, postgraduate, and specialty training, in any country. Articles on non-educational topics or clinical research will be excluded. METHODS: This review will follow the JBI scoping review methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The databases to be searched include PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Index to Chiropractic Literature, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, and Educational Resources Information Center, from their inception. All languages will be considered. Two reviewers will independently screen records using predefined eligibility criteria and extract data using tables. Data extracted from eligible articles will include study design, participants, region, and topics. The integration of shared decision-making (SDM) into undergraduate oncology education represents a critical evolution in medical pedagogy, reflecting the growing complexity and patient-centric focus of contemporary healthcare. This paper introduces a comprehensive pedagogical framework designed to embed SDM within the undergraduate medical curriculum, particularly in oncology, where the multiplicity of treatment options and their profound impact on patient life underscore the necessity of this approach. Grounded in a systematic literature review and aligned with established educational theories, this framework proposes twelve strategic approaches to cultivate future physicians proficient in both clinical acumen and patient-collaborative decision-making. The framework emphasizes real-world clinical experience, role-playing, case studies, and decision aids to deepen students' understanding of SDM. It advocates for the development of communication skills, ethical deliberation, and cultural competence, recognizing the multifaceted nature of patient care. The inclusion of patient narratives and evidence-based decision-making further enriches the curriculum, offering a holistic view of patient care. Additionally, the integration of digital tools within the SDM process acknowledges the evolving technological landscape in healthcare. The paper also addresses challenges in implementing this framework, such as curricular constraints and the need for educator training. It underscores the importance of continual evaluation and adaptation of these strategies to the dynamic field of medical education and practice. Overall, this comprehensive approach aims not only to enhance the quality of oncological care but also to prepare medical students for the complexities of modern medicine, where patient involvement in decision-making is both a necessity and an expectation.
