RESUMO

Bombyx batryticatus (BB) is an anticonvulsant animal medicine in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acts on the central nervous system. This research aimed to study the anticonvulsant effects of different polarity fractions of extracts from BB and to explore the components conferring anticonvulsant activity. Materials and methods: Crude extracts of BB at 20 g/kg were divided into different polarity fractions (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, water) and were administered to groups of mice before injecting pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) to induce convulsions. The animals were placed in chambers, and their behaviors were recorded for 30 min following the injection. Latency time, percent of protection, convulsion, convulsion rate, and convulsion score were determined for these mice. The compounds present in the different fractions were analyzed, and those from the fraction that conferred anticonvulsant activity were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF MS) and molecular networking (MN). The chloroform extract fractions (B-C) clearly increased the seizure latency time and protection percentage and decreased the convulsion percentage compared to the control group. The anticonvulsant effect of other extract fractions was not significant. Our study shows that the chloroform extract fractions (B-C) of BB have a significant anticonvulsant effect. We also identified 17 compounds including lumichrome, pheophorbide A, and episyringaresinol 4'-O-beta-d-glucopyranose that were found for the first time. The results of this study may lay the groundwork for studying compounds derived from Bombyx batryticatus and their anticonvulsant effect.

Two sericins of high and low molecular weight (HS and LS) were prepared from commercial silkworm cocoon silk with a boiling water and Ca(OH)2 solution with ultrasonic treatments, respectively. This study first investigated the release concentration of the two abovementioned sericins in simulated saliva, gastric juice, and intestinal juice (pH 6.8, 2.0, and 7.4, respectively) within 10 h. The results showed that the order of sericin release rate and its amount in the simulated environment was gastric juice > saliva > intestinal juice. Second, the molecular weights of both sericin metabolites formed by in vitro enzymatic degradation were lower than 15 kDa. The α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of both sericins and their analog metabolites were positively correlated with their concentrations. The IC50 values of the HS- and LS-derived metabolites were 1.02 ± 0.12 mg/mL and 0.91 ± 0.15 mg/mL, respectively, which were five to seven times lower than those of both original sericins. The total antioxidant capacities and hydroxyl radical scavenging capacities of both metabolites were enhanced by one- to three-fold compared with HS and LS. These results indicate that both sericins, regardless of molecular size, have significantly enhanced antioxidant, superoxide free radical scavenging, and glycosidase inhibitory activities after simulated metabolism, and that LS is better than HS regardless of simulated digestion. These results confirm that sericin is important in the sustainable development and utilization of silk resources, especially the reduction in environmental pollution, and provides new ideas for the development of adjuvant treatments for diabetes and the development of foods with anti-hyperglycemic functions.

Benzene can impair peripheral immunity and immune organs; however, the recovery of benzene impairment has rarely been reported. In this study, we developed an immune dysfunction mouse model using a benzene gavage (500 mg/kg). Female Balb/c mice were treated with Bombyx batryticatus (BB, 5 g/kg), raw pinellia (RP, 5 g/kg), or a combination of Valproic acid and Coenzyme Q10 (CM, 150 mg/kg VPA & 100 mg/kg CoQ10) medication for four weeks. The immune function of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), spleen, and thymus was determined to evaluate whether the observed impairment could be altered by medications in the mouse model. Results showed that medications could alleviate benzene-induced structural and functional damage of spleen and thymus. Benzene exposure decreased the ATP level of PBMC, which can be improved by BB, RP or CM. Importantly, BB, RP or CM could relieve benzene induced-oxidative stress by increasing the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and decreasing the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA). In conclusion, BB, RP, and CM were able to alleviate the benzene-induced immune dysfunction and redox imbalance. Improvement of the oxidative and antioxidant imbalance may represent a mechanism by which medicine prevents benzene-induced immune dysfunction.

Like humans, weight control in overweight dogs is associated with a longer life expectancy and a healthier life. Dietary supplements are one of the best strategies for controlling obesity and obesity-associated diseases. This study was conducted to assess the potential of black ginseng (BG) and silkworm (SW) as supplements for weight control in diet-induced overweight beagle dogs. To investigate the changes that occur in dogs administered the supplements, different obesity-related parameters, such as body condition score (BCS), blood fatty acid profile, transcriptome, and microbiome, were assessed in high energy diet (HD) and HD with BG + SW supplementation (HDT) groups of test animals. After 12 weeks of BG + SW supplementation, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were reduced in the HDT group. In the transcriptome analysis, nine genes (NUGGC, EFR3B, RTP4, ACAN, HOXC4, IL17RB, SOX13, SLC18A2, and SOX4) that are known to be associated with obesity were found to be differentially expressed between the ND (normal diet) and HD groups as well as the HD and HDT groups. Significant changes in some taxa were observed between the HD and ND groups. These data suggest that the BG + SW supplement could be developed as dietary interventions against diet-induced obesity, and obesity-related differential genes could be important candidates in the mechanism of the anti-obesity effects of the BG + SW supplement.

To prepare a nutritional supplement using silkworm pupae oil (SPO) as a feedstock, a microfluidic reactor with a smart hydrogel immobilized lipase was first constructed to reduce the relative content of palmitic acid at sn-1,3 and improve the nutritional function. The effects of flow rate, reaction temperature, and substrate molar ratio were investigated. In vitro digestion and pH-stat models were employed to analyze the digestion feature after the modification of SPO, while HPLC-ELSD, zeta potential, DSC, and TGA were used to evaluate the nutritional function. The relative content of "OOO" and "OPO" type triglycerides was increased by 49.48% and 107.67%, and that of palmitic acid at sn-1,3 was decreased by 49.61% in 10 s. After the verification of the in vitro digestion model, the fatty acid release rate of the modified SPO was significantly improved by 22.07%, indicating the nutritional function improvement of SPO. Therefore, the nutritional function of SPO has been improved successfully by the application of a microchannel reactor with photo-immobilized lipase, which could set a reference for the utilization of insect oil resources.

Edible insects, Bombyx mori (silkworm; SW), which feed on mulberry leaves, have been consumed by humans for a long time as supplements or traditional medication. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a liver metabolic disorder that affects many people worldwide. We examined the hepatoprotective effects of SW using in vitro and high-fat and high-fructose (HFHF) diet-induced obese in vivo model mice by real-time PCR, immunoblot analysis, and fecal microbiota analysis. SW significantly reduced lipid accumulation and expression of the lipogenic genes in HepG2 cells and the livers of HFHF-induced mice. SW caused significant reductions in triglycerides, and total cholesterol in serum and upregulation of fatty acid oxidation markers compared to the HFHF group. Besides, SW significantly induced phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC in both models, suggesting roles in AMPK activation and the ACC signaling pathway. Furthermore, the gut microbiota analysis demonstrated that SW treatment reduced Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratios and the relative abundance of the Lachnospiraceae family compared to HFHF-induced obese mice. These results provide a novel therapeutic agent of hepatoprotective effects of SW for non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis that targets hepatic AMPK and ACC-mediated lipid metabolism.

α-Linolenic acid (ALA) is recognised to have a regulatory effect on cardiovascular diseases. Due to the low bioavailability of linseed oil (LINO), which is the most common ALA supplement, it is necessary to find a replacement for ALA supplements that is more easily accepted by the human body. The content of ALA in silkworm pupae oil (SPO) is 32.60 ± 0.67%, and SPO can be substituted as a dietary lipid to meet the demand of the human body. In the present study, a pH-stat system was used to investigate the release degree of free fatty acids (FFAs) from SPO and construct a first-order kinetic model. Digestion experiments in vitro with different lipids showed that the maximum release FFA levels were SPO > SO (soybean oil) > LO (lard oil) > MSO (mulberry seed oil) > LINO, and the first-order kinetic apparent rate constants were LINO > SPO > LO > SO > MSO. Triacylglycerol (TAG) and fatty acid composition are the decisive factors in determining the level of lipid digestion. Therefore, the maximum level of FFAs released from SPO (84.34 ± 1.37%) was much higher than that of LINO (49.78 ± 0.52%) when the hydrolysis rates were 0.2114 s-1 and 0.2249 s-1, respectively. In addition, the smaller emulsion droplet size (609.24 ± 43.46 nm) and weaker surface charge (-17.93 ± 0.42 mV) also resulted in higher levels of SPO under in vitro digestion conditions. Meanwhile, due to low melting and crystallisation temperature, SPO is quickly absorbed by the human body. Overall, SPO can be used as a new alternative for ALA supplements based on its superior digestive properties.

In this research, hWJ-MSCs were grown on silk scaffolds and induced towards chondrogenesis by supplementation with L-ascorbic acid (LAA) or platelet rich plasma (PRP). Silk scaffolds were fabricated with salt leaching method by mixing silk fibroin (SF) with silk spidroin (SS). The silk fibroin was obtained from Bombyx mori cocoon that had been degummed, and the silk spidroin was obtained from wild-type spider Argiope appensa. The effect of scaffold composition and inducer on cell proliferation was observed through MTT assay. The most optimal treatment then continued to be used to induce hWJ-MSC towards chondrogenic differentiation for 7 and 21 days. Scaffolds characterization showed that the scaffolds produced had 3D structure with interconnected pores, and all were biocompatible with hWJ-MSCs. Scaffold with the addition of 10% SS + 90% SF showed higher compressive strength and better pore interconnectivity in comparison to 100% silk fibroin scaffold. After 48 h, cells seeded on scaffold with spidroin and fibroin mix had flattened morphology in comparison to silk fibroin scaffold which appeared to be more rounded on the scaffold surface. Scaffold with 10% (w/w) of silk spidroin (SS) + 90% (w/w) of silk fibroin (SF) was the most optimal composition for cell proliferation. Immunocytochemistry of integrin ß1 and RGD sequence, showed that scaffold with SS 10% provide better cell attachment with the presence of RGD sequence from the spidroin silk which could explain the higher cell proliferation than SF100% scaffold. Based on Alcian Blue staining and Collagen Type II immunocytochemistry (ICC), cells grown on 10% SS + 90% SF scaffold with 10% PRP supplementation were the most optimal to support chondrogenesis of hWJ-MSCs. These results showed that the addition of spidroin silk from A. appensa. had impact on scaffold compressive strength and chondrogenic differentiation of hWJ-MSC and had the potential for further development of bio-based material scaffold in cartilage tissue engineering.

The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of Faeces Bombycis(FB) on the intestinal microflora in rats with syndrome of damp retention in middle-jiao, and to explore its mechanism in regulating intestinal microflora from the perspective of microorganisms contained in FB. The contents of antidiuretic hormone(ADH) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in serum and aquaporin 3(AQP3) in jejunum were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Illumina Miseq platform was used for high-throughput sequencing of the rat feces and FB. The ELISA results showed that as compared with the normal control group, the contents of ADH and CRP in the model group were significantly increased(P<0.05), and the content of AQP3 was significantly decreased(P<0.05). After drug administration, the ADH, CRP and AQP3 contents were recovered. Sequencing of rat feces showed that the ACE, Chao1 and Shannon indexes of the intestinal microflora were the lowest in the model group. As compared with the normal control group, the levels from phylum to genus were all significantly changed in model group, and Proteobacteria, Acinetobacter, Anaerobacter, Pseudomonas, and Parabacteroides levels were significantly increased(P<0.05), while Marvinbryantia level was significantly decreased(P<0.05). As compared with the model group, Proteobacteria was significantly decreased in the FB low and high dose groups(P<0.05), and Acinetobacter, Anaerobacter, Pseudomonas, Parabacteroides levels were significantly decreased in the low, medium and high dose groups(P<0.05), while Lachnoanaerobaculum, Intestinimonas and Marvinbryantia were increased significantly in the high dose group(P<0.05). Sequencing analysis of FB showed that the relative abundance of Leclercia, Pantoea, Brachybacterium, Shimwellia, Hartmannibacter, Klebsiella, Serratia, Aurantimonas, Paenibacillus and Bacillus was high in the FB, but they were basically not present or little in the rat feces. In conclusion, FB may play a role in the treatment of "syndrome of damp retention in middle-jiao" by balancing the intestinal microflora, and this effect may be related to the metabolites of microorganisms in the FB.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant primary liver cancer with poor prognosis. Most previous studies on anti-HCC effects of traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) have focused on the mechanism of direct action and few researchers considered that TCM can inhibit tumor progression and improve prognosis of HCC patients through regulating tumor microenvironment (TME). In this study, network pharmacology combined bioinformatics methods were employed to analysis mechanism of Bombyx batryticatus (B. batryticatus, one of the most frequently used traditional Chinese animal medicines, has been used in some Asian countries for centuries as an anticancer agent, anti-inflammatory agent, and antioxidant.) in regulating TME of HCC. The results showed that 24 core targets and 2 compounds were identified from overlapping between differential expression genes related to HCC in the cancer genome atlas (TCGA) database and targets of B. batryticatus in TCMSP database. For further analyzing the role of TME heterogeneity of HCC on anti-HCC mechanism of B. batryticatus, the correlation of core targets related with overall survival of HCC with TME cells in hepatitis C or hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (VIR) and non-hepatitis C or hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (NVIR) were calculated, respectively. The results showed that AKR1C3, SPP1 were significantly related with macrophages in VIR and other targets including NR1I2, CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 were significantly associated with macrophages in NVIR; the target protein AKR1C3 was significantly negative correlated with macrophages M1 in VIR (cor=-0.35, P-value<0.001) and the correlation between AKR1C3 and macrophages M1 was poor in NVIR group (cor = 0.064, P-value = 0.36). Additionally, survival curve of AKR1C3 showed that poor prognosis in VIR group can be related to high level of AKR1C3 (HR = 2.32, 95 % CI: 1.18-4.56, P-value = 0.012), and no signified gene can be found in NVIR group (P-value>0.05). In conclusion, the molecular mechanism of anti-HCC of B. batryticatus can be related to the tumor microenvironment to some extent. B. batryticatus may exert its anti-cancer effects and improve prognosis of patients by regulating macrophages M1 in VIR and NVIR through acting on different targets.

Mulberry silkworm cocoon (MSC) carbonisata has been used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases for hundreds of years; however, after years of research efforts, little information is available on its anti-inflammatory components and underlying mechanism. We developed novel carbon dots (CDs) derived from MSC carbonisata (MSC-CDs), for the first time, with an average diameter of 2.26-9.35 nm and a quantum yield (QY) of 6.32%. The MSC-CDs were prepared using a modified pyrolysis method, and no further modification and external surface passivation agent was required. With abundant surface groups, MSC-CDs showed distinct solubility and bioactivity. In this study, we innovatively used three classical experimental models of inflammation to evaluate the anti-inflammatory bioactivity of MSC-CDs. The results indicated that MSC-CDs exhibited marked anti-inflammatory bioactivity which was likely mediated by inhibition of the expression of interleukin-6 and tumour necrosis factor-α. These results suggest that MSC-CDs possess a remarkable anti-inflammatory property, which provides evidence to support further investigation of the considerable potential and effective material basis of this traditional Chinese medicine.

Bombyx batryticatus is a well-known animal in traditional Chinese medicine. The aim of the research was to reveal the quality formation mechanism of B. batryticatus and to screen out the characteristic component used for the quality control. The anticonvulsant effects of B. batryticatus with a stiff time of one, five, and nine days (D1, D5 and D9, respectively) and healthy silkworm of the same developmental stage (SW) were determined by animal experiment. The dynamic changes in chemical composition were analyzed using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS-based metabolomics. D5 and D9 B. batryticatus exhibited significant anticonvulsant effects (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, respectively). Accordingly, principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) indicated that the chemical composition of D5 and D9 B. batryticatus changed significantly. The different metabolites mainly consisted of primary metabolites such as lipids and amino acids and secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, beauvericin, and glycolipids. Interestingly, the relative abundance of quercetin-7-O-ß-d-4-O-methylglucoside, the characteristic component of B. batryticatus, increased with stiff time and was promised to be used as an index component of quality control. The results expand our understanding of the quality formation mechanism of B. batryticatus. BACKGROUND: Mulberry silkworm larvae (Bombyx mori) are known as the oldest resource of food and traditional medicine. Although silkworm larvae have been reported to treat various chronic diseases, the effect of fermentation by microorganisms improving the biological activities of silkworm larvae was not reported. In the present study, fermented silkworm larvae was developed via solid-state fermentation with Aspergillus kawachii and investigated its anti-cancer activity in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. METHODS: We investigated the anti-cancer effects of unfermented (SEE) and fermented silkworm larva ethanol extract (FSEE) on HepG2 human hepatocellular carcinoma cells as well as compared changes in free amino acid, fatty acid, and mineral contents. Anti-cancer activities were evaluated by SRB staining, cell cycle analysis, Annexin V staining, Hoechst staining, DNA fragmentation analysis and western blot analysis. Fatty acid, free amino acid and mineral contents of SEE and FSEE were determined by gas chromatography, amino acid analyzer and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with SEE, treatment with FSEE resulted in apoptotic cell death in HepG2 cells characterized by G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest, DNA fragmentation, and formation of apoptotic bodies. Furthermore, FSEE significantly up-regulated pro-apoptotic as well as down-regulated anti-apoptotic proteins in HepG2 cells. However, an equivalent concentration of SEE did not induce cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in HepG2 cells. Moreover, fermentation process by Aspergillus kawachii resulted in enhancement of fatty acid contents in silkworm larvae, whereas amino acid and mineral contents were decreased. CONCLUSION: Collectively, this study demonstrates that silkworm larvae solid state-fermented by Aspergillus kawachii strongly potentiates caspase-dependent and -independent apoptosis pathways in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells by regulating secondary metabolites.

BACKGROUND: Silkworm droppings have long been used in traditional medicine to remedy allergic itching, palsy, blood circulation problems, and arthritis in Asian countries. To investigate the anti-allergic effect of silkworm dropping extract (SDE) and its mechanism, we used a mouse model of food allergy induced by ovalbumin (OVA). RESULTS: SDE ameliorated the symptoms of OVA-induced food allergies, and the levels of T helper 2 (Th2)-related cytokines [such as interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-10, and IL-13] were found to be significantly decreased in both the spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes by SDE. Furthermore, SDE treatment directly inhibited OVA permeation, IL-4 production, and degranulation of mast cells; in contrast, immunoglobulin E (IgE) production from B cells was not affected. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that SDE has potential anti-allergic activities, and SDE may be useful in the treatment/prevention of allergic disorders such as food allergies, serving as therapeutic agents. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Bombyx batryticatus is a known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) utilized to treat convulsions, epilepsy, cough, asthma, headaches, and purpura in China for thousands of years. This study is aimed at investigating the antiepileptic effects of protein-rich extracts from Bombyx batryticatus (BBPs) on seizure in mice and exploring the protective effects of BBPs against H2O2-induced oxidative stress in PC12 cells and their underlying mechanisms. Maximal electroshock-induced seizure (MES) and pentylenetetrazole- (PTZ-) induced seizure in mice and the histological analysis were carried out to evaluate the antiepileptic effects of BBPs. The cell viability of PC12 cells stimulated by H2O2 was determined by MTT assay. The apoptosis and ROS levels of H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells were determined by flow cytometry analysis. Furthermore, the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and glutathione (GSH) in PC12 cells were assayed by ELISA and expressions of caspase-3, caspase-9, Bax, Bcl-2, PI3K, Akt, and p-Akt were evaluated by Western blotting and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays. The results revealed that BBPs exerted significant antiepileptic effects on mice. In addition, BBPs increased the cell viability of H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells and reduced apoptotic cells and ROS levels in H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells. By BBPs treatments, the levels of MDA and LDH were reduced and the levels of SOD and GSH-Px were increased in H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells. Moreover, BBPs upregulated the expressions of PI3K, Akt, p-Akt, and Bcl-2, whereas they downregulated the expressions of caspase-9, caspase-3, and Bax in H2O2-stimulated PC12 cells. These findings suggested that BBPs possessed potential antiepileptic effects on MES and PTZ-induced seizure in mice and protective effects on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in PC12 cells by exerting antioxidative and antiapoptotic effects via PI3K/Akt signaling pathways.

The present study was aimed at preparing and evaluating levocetirizine (LCZD) loaded emulgel containing tamanu oil and sericin for atopic dermatitis (AD) therapy. The emulgel envisaged topical delivery of LCZD utilising natural antioxidants for superior therapeutic outcomes when compared with other conventional therapy. Tamanu oil based microemulsion (ME) was optimised utilising Box-Behnken design (BBD). The OPT-ME displayed globule size 379.5 ± 2.33 nm, polydispersity index 0.284, drug loading 0.41 ± 0.01% w/w, entrapment efficiency 94.34 ± 2.11% w/w and drug release 86.24 ± 4.90% respectively over a period of 24 h. The optimised formulation (OPT-ME) was further incorporated into sericin gel to form emulgel (LSE). In vivo pharmacodynamic studies revealed enhanced therapeutic potential of emulgel in terms of reduced scratching frequency and erythema score when compared with conventional gel. The superior therapeutic potential was further witnessed through histopathological and biochemical studies. The emulgel can be an alternative appropriate dosage form for the treatment of AD.

BACKGROUND: Silkworm pupae are a traditional Chinese food, rich in various saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids have a certain protective effect against oxidative damage. The present study used an animal model to determine the protective effect of silkworm pupa oil on hydrochloric acid / ethanol-induced gastric ulcer. RESULTS: Silkworm pupa oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, including palmitoleic acid 63.4 g kg-1 , oleic acid 249.1 g kg-1 , linoleic acid 47.0 g kg-1 , and linolenic acid 337.8 g kg-1 , whereas its unsaturated fatty acid content is 700 g kg-1 . Compared to a gastric ulcer control group, high and low doses of pupa oil reduced gastric ulcer area and gastric secretion, whereas gastric pH increased. It also increased serum antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels, somatostatin (SST), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) levels, and reduced serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-12 (IL-12), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ), motilin (MTL), and gastrin (GT) levels. RT-qPCR and western blot analyses indicated that silkworm pupa oil significantly increased CAT, GSH-Px, epidermal growth factor (EGF), Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), Cu/Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, and NF-kappa-B inhibitor-α (IκB-α) expression and lowered nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression. CONCLUSION: Silkworm pupa oil treatment reduced oxidative damage and inflammation in mice, and high-dose silkworm pupa oil was superior to low-dose silkworm pupa oil, following ranitidine. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

The 1-DNJ named 1-deoxynojirimycinis (2R,3R,4R,5S)-2-(hydroxymethyl) piperidine-3,4,5-triol, which is the nature active components existingin mulberryresources including leaves, stems, roots and silkworm larva, silkworm chrysalis, etc.The 1-deoxynojirimycin is a polyhydroxylated piperidine alkaloid, which was first found in Streptomyces as an antibiotic. Then the Japanese researchers isolated it from the mulberry root. 1-DNJ can inhibit postprandial hyperglycemia by suppressing intestinal alpha glucosidase. Therefore, 1-DNJ is often used to treat treating diabetes and complicating disease and to prevent obesity and weight-related disorders. With the development of the researches, 1-deoxynojirimycin and its derivtiv was discovered to possess anti-hyperglycemic, anti-virus, anti-tumor functions and so on. Therefore,based on our current studythe existing knowledge on source, technique preparation process, pharmacokinetics, bioactivties,and in silico target fishing of 1-DNJ were summarized, so that the researchers may use it to explore future perspective of research on 1-DNJ.

Bombyx batryticatus (B. batryticatus), a well-known traditional animal Chinese medicine, has been commonly used in China for thousands of years. The present paper reviewed advances in traditional uses, origin, chemical constituents, pharmacology and toxicity studies of B. batryticatus. The aim of the paper is to provide more comprehensive references for modern B. batryticatus study and application. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) culture, drugs containing B. batryticatus have been used to treat convulsions, headaches, skin prurigo, scrofula, tonsillitis and fever. Many studies indicate B. batryticatus contains various compounds, including protein and peptides, fatty acids, flavonoids, nucleosides, steroids, coumarin, polysaccharide and others. Numerous investigations also have shown that extracts and compounds from B. batryticatus exert a wide spectrum of pharmacological effects both in vivo and in vitro, including effects on the nervous system, anticoagulant effects, antitumor effects, antibacterial and antifungal effects, antioxidant effects, hypoglycemic effects, as well as other effects. However, further studies should be undertaken to investigate bioactive compounds (especially proteins and peptides), toxic constituents, using forms and the quality evaluation and control of B. batryticatus. Furthermore, it will be interesting to study the mechanism of biological activities and structure-function relationships of bioactive constituents in B. batryticatus.

This study aimed to prepare silk fibroin (SF) films loaded with honeysuckle flowers extract (HFE) for inducing apoptosis of HeLa cells. We mixed solution of SF and HFE by air-drying for preparing the honeysuckle flowers extract loaded silk fibroin (SFH) films. The physical properties including morphologies, contact angle, roughness, and Z range were characterized. MTS assay and fluorescence micrographs proved that SFH films inhibited the proliferation rate of HeLa cells due to induction of HFE into SF films. Furthermore, cell apoptosis assay and cell cycle analysis confirmed that the apoptosis of HeLa cells resulted from SFH films. Therefore, SFH films designed in our study might be a promising candidate material for cancer therapy.
