OBJECTIVES: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a medium vessel vasculitis with a predilection to involve coronary arteries. However, there is a paucity of literature on microvascular changes in patients with KD. METHODS: Children diagnosed with KD based on American Heart Association guidelines 2017 were enrolled prospectively. Demographic details and echocardiographic changes in coronaries were recorded. Nailfold capillaries were assessed using Optilia Video capillaroscopy and data were analysed using Optilia Optiflix Capillaroscopy software at acute (prior to IVIG administration) and subacute/convalescent phase. RESULTS: We enrolled 32 children with KD (17 boys) with a median age of 3 years. Nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC) was performed in 32 patients in the acute phase (compared with 32 controls) and in 17 during the subacute/convalescent phase at a median follow-up of 15 (15-90) days after IVIG treatment. The following findings were seen in NFC in the acute phase of KD: reduced capillary density (n = 12, 38.6%), dilated capillaries (n = 3, 9.3%), ramifications (n = 3, 9.3%) and capillary haemorrhages (n = 2, 6.2%). Capillary density was reduced significantly in the acute phase of KD (38.6%) as compared with the subacute/convalescent phase (25.4%) (P-value <0.001) and controls (0%) (P-value = 0.03). We observed no correlation between coronary artery involvement and mean capillary density (P = 0.870). CONCLUSION: Results show that patients with KD have significant nailfold capillary changes in the acute phase. These findings may provide a new diagnostic paradigm for KD and a window to predict coronary artery abnormalities.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy still lacks proper interpretations of its many actions. This hypothesis is based on reports of temporarily elevated peripheral vascular resistance (PVR) during HBO sessions. Besides that, during HBO sessions, hyperoxygenated tissues can reduce their perfusion so much that CO2 can accumulate in them. Tissue perfusion depends on vascular innervation and on the balance between systemic constrictors and local dilators. During an HBO session, increased tissue oxygen levels suppress dilatory mechanisms. Tissue hyperoxygenation increases PVR, suggesting that the HBO action on an edematous tissue may be caused by an oxygen-induced disbalance among Starling capillary forces. The presented hypothesis is that oxygen-caused arteriolar constriction reduces the hydrostatic pressure in downstream capillaries. Thus, more tissue fluid is absorbed in vascular capillaries, under the condition that the plasma colloid osmotic pressure remains unaltered during the HBO session. Among several known mechanisms behind the HBO actions, the vasoconstriction has been listed as a therapeutic modality for the reduction of the tissue edema, for a crush injury, for burns (in an acute phase), and for the compartment syndrome. The Bell's palsy is among often listed indications for the HBO treatment, although evidence is poor and reports of randomized trials are scarce.

In this study, simulation of magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia is performed on a 3D tumor model constructed based on a CT image of a tumor. In the first step, magnetic nanoparticles are injected into two points of the tumor tissue with the same parameters. Results show that temperature profiles in the vicinity of the injection points are not similar due to the presence of blood capillaries. Therefore, the effects of using dissimilar injection parameters for the two injection points on the heating pattern and damage fraction of the tumor are investigated. The results demonstrate that using dissimilar values for injection parameters such as injection rate, injection time, and nanofluid volume fraction is a way to achieve a higher damage fraction of the tumor cells, but, the asynchronous injections strategy does not lead to more significant damage to the tumor. None of the cases showed significant improvement in the uniformity of the temperature distribution, suggesting that conducting injections under the same conditions is the best way to create an almost uniform temperature profile. The numerical simulation validation results also advocate the accuracy of the model used in this study. This research can serve as a guide for designing parameters for future studies.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Dahuang Zhechong pill (DHZCP), a traditional Chinese medicine, was derived from the famous book Unk "Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber" during the Han dynasty. Owing to its ability to invigorate the circulation of blood in Chinese medicine, DHZCP is usually used for treating liver cirrhosis (LC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Clinical application have shown that DHZCP exhibits satisfactory therapeutic effects in HCC adjuvant therapy; however, little is known about its underlying mechanisms. AIM OF THE STUDY: We aimed to clarify the mechanism of DHZCP against hepatic sinusoidal capillarization in rats with LC and HCC by inhibiting the MK/integrin signaling pathway of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The contents of 29 characteristic components in DHZCP were determined by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. DEN (Diethylnitrosamine)-induced LC and HCC rat models were constructed, and DHZCP was administered when the disease entered the LC stage. After 4 or 12 weeks of administration, hematoxylin and eosin staining, Masson staining, Metavir score, and SSCP (Single strand conformation polymorphism) gene mutation detection were used to confirm tissue fibrosis and cancer. The levels of NO, ET-1 and TXA2, which can regulate vasomotor functions and activate the MK/Itgα6/Src signaling pathway were evaluated by using immunohistochemistry, chemiluminescence, immunofluorescence, Western blot analysis, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Similar methods were also used to evaluate the levels of VEGF, VEGFR, Ang-2 and Tie, which can promote pathological angiogenesis and activate the MK/Itgα4/NF-κB signaling pathway. In vitro cell experiments were performed using potential pharmacodynamic molecules targeting integrins in DHZCP were selected by molecular docking, and the effects of these molecules on the function of LSECs were studied by Itgα4+ and Itgα6+ cell models. RESULTS: At the stage of LC, the animal experiments demonstrated that DHZCP mainly inhibited the MK/Itgα6 signaling pathway to increase the number and size of hepatic sinus fenestration, reversed the ET-1/NO and TXA2/NO ratios, regulated hepatic sinus relaxation and contraction balance, reduced the portal vein pressure, and inhibited cirrhotic carcinogenesis. At the HCC stage, DHZCP could also significantly inhibit the MK/Itgα4 signaling pathway, reduce pathological angiogenesis, and alleviate disease progression. The results of the cell experiments showed that Rhein, Naringenin, Liquiritin and Emodin-8-O-ß-D-glucoside (PMEG) were involved in vascular regulation by affecting the MK/integrin signaling pathway. Liquiritin and PMEG mainly blocked the MK/α6 signal, which is important in regulating the vasomotor function of the liver sinus. Naringenin and Rhein mainly acted by blocked the signaling of MK/α4 action signal, which are potent molecules that inhibit pathological angiogenesis. CONCLUSIONS: DHZCP could improve the hepatic sinusoidal capillarization of LC and HCC by inhibiting the MK/Itgα signaling pathway and inhibited disease progression. Rhein, Naringenin, Liquiritin and PMEG were the main active molecules that affected the MK/Itgα signaling pathway.

Capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) has been widely used for analysis of proteins according to their size. However, to our knowledge, this technique has not been optimized to immunoglobulin A (IgA) analysis, a protein of current and emerging high interest in several fields. IgA is the first barrier of human body against pathogens. This protein in human milk and colostrum is essential for immune protection of newborns and treatment of milk for storage in Human Milk Banks may alter IgA. The emerging use of IgA as therapeutic treatment also encourages the development of analysis methods for this class of immunoglobulins. IgA is far more heterogeneously glycosylated and complex than the well-studied IgG molecules. IgA in serum is mainly monomeric (mIgA) with about 160 kDa, while in secretions such as saliva, milk, colostrum, etc, secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is the predominant form. This is a dimer where both monomers are linked by the J-chain and the secretory component accounting all together for a MW higher than 400 kDa including the glycans. This size is far from the 225 kDa MW for which commercial CGE kits are intended. The general rules governing CGE behavior of analytes cannot be directly applied to every protein. Addressing studies directed specifically to target proteins is specially needed for the large size and highly complex target analytes of this study. In this work the effect of several factors on CGE analysis of human serum and colostrum IgA is studied. The feasibility of performing analysis of both IgA classes using a commercial CGE kit is shown. In addition, this work introduces another novelty by preparing tailor-made reproducible gel buffers and to characterize them in terms of dynamic viscosity, conductivity, and electroosmotic flow mobility in bare fused silica capillaries. The possibility of analyzing mIgA and sIgA in less than 10 min using these tailor-made gels is demonstrated. Inter-day variation (RSD) for the main peak of sIgA is 0.25% for migration time (tm) and 0.27% for percentage corrected peak area (Acorr).

Oxygen supplementation is regularly prescribed to patients to treat or prevent hypoxia. However, excess oxygenation can lead to reduced cerebral blood flow (CBF) in healthy subjects and worsen the neurological outcome of critically ill patients. Most studies on the vascular effects of hyperoxia focus on arteries but there is no research on the effects on cerebral capillary pericytes, which are major regulators of CBF. Here, we used bright-field imaging of cerebral capillaries and modeling of CBF to show that hyperoxia (95% superfused O2) led to an increase in intracellular calcium level in pericytes and a significant capillary constriction, sufficient to cause an estimated 25% decrease in CBF. Although hyperoxia is reported to cause vascular smooth muscle cell contraction via generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), endothelin-1 and 20-HETE, we found that increased cytosolic and mitochondrial ROS levels and endothelin release were not involved in the pericyte-mediated capillary constriction. However, a 20-HETE synthesis blocker greatly reduced the hyperoxia-evoked capillary constriction. Our findings establish pericytes as regulators of CBF in hyperoxia and 20-HETE synthesis as an oxygen sensor in CBF regulation. The results also provide a mechanism by which clinically administered oxygen can lead to a worse neurological outcome.

Abstract This study aimed to develop a simple and fast capillary electrophoresis (CE) method for the simultaneous determination of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and its metabolites in dietary energy supplements. Reverse polarity separation mode for faster separation of the three strong negatively charged analytes and capillaries with a 25 µm inner diameter was employed. At -433 V/cm field strength at background electrolyte (BGE) consist with 0.1 M tris-HCl, 0.5 mM tetradecyltrimethylammonium chloride (TTAC) as positively charged surfactant and 0.3 mg/mL hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) to reduce the electroosmotic flow (EOF), a complete separation of the three species were achieved in less than 15 minutes. The data acquisition was conducted at a wavelength of 254 nm. Three different commercialised dietary energy supplements were analysed.

Dynamic vapor microextraction (DVME) is a vapor preconcentration method that employs a capillary trap coated with an adsorbent, followed by solvent elution to recover the sample. DVME has been developed for applications in the laboratory, including highly precise vapor pressure measurements, and in the field. When vapor collection is conducted outside the laboratory, samples must almost always undergo some interval of storage representing the time between collection and analysis. This interval may be hours, days, or longer, depending on the situation. Regardless, in all situations there must be confidence that the integrity of the samples is maintained until processing and analysis. In this paper, we present results of two studies that tested the stability of a 50% weathered gasoline headspace sample on alumina PLOT (porous layer open tubular) capillaries stored at room temperature for periods from 24 h up to 20 wk. We used principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce the dimensionality of the chromatographic and mass spectral data and elucidate trends in stability with respect to the complex sample's range of hydrocarbon classes and molecular weights. Both analyses identified changes over storage periods of six weeks or more. The hydrocarbon class analysis, which used selected ion monitoring (SIM) data as input, proved more sensitive to changes over shorter storage periods. Sample integrity was preserved for at least 24 h, but losses, especially of high-volatility compounds, occurred by 168 h (7 d). Near total loss of sample occurred by 20 wk. These findings, which are specific to the sample, adsorbent, and storage conditions, will guide choices in experimental and instrumental design to ensure that data from future field studies is reliable.

An online method based on CE was established to screen α-glucosidase inhibitors from traditional Tibetan medicine extracts. First, the inner wall at the inlet of capillary column was simply and effectively functionalized by dopamine-polyethyleneimine co-deposition method, which combines the adhesion property of dopamine and easy cationization of polyethyleneimine. Then α-glucosidase was rapidly immobilized on the inner wall of the capillary column by electrostatic adsorption. The inter- and intraday repeatability of the peak area of the enzymatic reaction product (p-nitrophenol) in a capillary was evaluated, and RSD% (n = 3) was 0.94% and 1.09%, respectively. Good batch-to-batch reproducibility of the peak area between different capillaries (RSD = 2.1%, n = 5) shows that the preparation method has good reproducibility. The Michaelis-Menten constant of the immobilized α-glucosidase was measured to be 1.18 mM, and the capillary column enzyme reactor retained 85.9% of initial activity after 30 cycles. Finally, it was applied to the screening of enzyme inhibitors in 20 traditional Tibetan medicine extracts. Sixteen medicines with inhibitory activity were screened out, and Rheum australe had the strongest inhibitory effect with an inhibitory rate of 83.3 ± 0.4%. These results showed that this method is effective to find potential enzyme inhibitors.

Induction of pulmonary capillary hemorrhage (PCH) by lung ultrasound (LUS) depends not only on physical exposure parameters but also on physiologic conditions and drug treatment. We studied the influence of xylazine and clonidine on LUS-induced PCH in spontaneously hypertensive and normotensive rats using diagnostic B-mode ultrasound at 7.3 MHz. Using ketamine anesthesia, rats receiving saline, xylazine, or clonidine treatment were tested with different pulse peak rarefactional pressure amplitudes in 5 min exposures. Results with xylazine or clonidine in spontaneously hypertensive rats were not significantly different at the three exposure pulse peak rarefactional pressure amplitudes, and thresholds were lower (2.2 MPa) than with saline (2.6 MPa). Variations in LUS PCH were not correlated with mean systemic blood pressure. Similar to previous findings for dexmedetomidine, the clinical drug clonidine tended to increase susceptibility to LUS PCH.

We examined the effects of mild hyperbaric oxygen (mHBO) exposure on capillary rarefaction in skeletal muscles of rats with diabetes. Streptozotocin (100 mg/kg) was administered to male Wistar rats via the tail vein to prepare a diabetic model. These rats were divided into 2 groups: the group with mHBO exposure (1.25 atmospheres absolute (ATA) with 36% oxygen; 3 h/day) and the group without mHBO exposure. Age-matched rats were used as the control group. Eight weeks later, the soleus of the rats was removed and then analyzed. With the onset of diabetes mellitus, capillary number, diameter, and volume in the soleus of the rats with diabetes decreased compared with those of the rats in the control group. In addition, increased anti-angiogenic thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) and decreased pro-angiogenic murine double minute 2 (MDM-2) protein expressions were observed in the rats with diabetes. Alternatively, mHBO exposure attenuated the decrease in capillary diameter and volume in skeletal muscles of rats with diabetes, suppressed the overexpression of TSP-1, and restored the MDM-2 expression. These results indicate the exposure of mHBO partially attenuates capillary rarefaction in diabetic soleus muscle.

Liver pathological angiogenesis is considered to be one of the key events in the development of liver fibrosis. Autophagy is a defense and stress regulation mechanism. However, whether autophagy regulates pathological angiogenesis in liver fibrosis is still questionable. Here, we aimed to study how curcumol regulated liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) angiogenesis through autophagy. We found that curcumol (10, 20 and 40 µM) could inhibit the expression of angiogenesis markers in the LSECs. Importantly, we showed that curcumol might influence LSEC pathological angiogenesis by regulating autophagy level. Furthermore, we indicated that the transcription factor Krüppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) was considered as a key target for curcumol to regulate LSEC angiogenesis. Interestingly, we also suggested that autophagy was as a potential mechanism for curcumol to restrain KLF5 expression. Increased autophagy level could impair the suppression effect of curcumol on KLF5. Fascinatingly, our results indicated that curcumol inhibited autophagy and led to p62 accumulation, which might be a regulation mechanism of KLF5 degradation. Finally, in mice liver fibrosis model, we unanimously showed that curcumol (30 mg/kg) inhibited pathological angiogenesis by reducing LSEC autophagy level and suppressing KLF5 expression. Collectively, these results provided a deeper insight into the molecular mechanism of curcumol to inhibit LSEC pathological angiogenesis during liver fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Pulse examination, which reveals information about bodily qi and blood circulation, is an essential diagnostic tool in traditional Chinese medicine. Capillary refill time (CRT) is a simple test parameter for assessing circulation status. Examining the root of pulse and measuring CRT are extremely similar procedures. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of acupuncture on CRT. METHODS: Three acupoints were selected to evaluate the effects of CRT. CRT, quantitative CRT, heart rate, core body temperature, and blood pressure were measured before acupuncture and immediately after removal of needles and 30 min after removal of needles. A total of 15 healthy adults representing both sexes were prospectively included in the study. The acupoints selected were bilateral Taixi (KI3), Hegu (LI4), and Zusanli (ST36). Each participant received acupuncture three times, interventions were separated by at least 2 days, and acupuncture was performed on only one acupoint at each intervention. RESULTS: CRT decreased significantly after acupuncture on only KI3. Quantitative CRT decreased significantly after acupuncture on KI3 and LI4. Heart rate changed significantly after acupuncture on KI3 and ST36. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture on KI3 can reduce CRT in health adults.

Wounds and burn injury are major causes of death and disability worldwide. Myricetin is a common bioactive flavonoid isolated naturally from the plant kingdom. Herein, a topical application of naturally isolated myricetin from the shoots of Tecomaria capensis v. aurea on excisional wound healing that was performed in albino rats. The wounded rats were treated every day with 10 and 20% myricetin for 14 days. During the experiment, the wound closure percentage was estimated at days 0, 7, and 14. Effects of myricetin on the inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), and cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68) in the serum were evaluated using immunosorbent assay kits. The percentage of wound closure and contraction was delayed in wounded rats (67.35%) and was remarkably increased after treatment of wounded rats with myricetin; the treatment with 20% myricetin was the most potent (98.76%). Histological findings exhibited that 10% myricetin caused the formation of a large area of scarring at the wound enclosure and stratified squamous epithelium without the formation of papillae as in the control group. Treatment with 20% myricetin exhibited less area of scarring at the wound enclosure as well as re-epithelialization with a high density of fibroblasts and blood capillaries in the wound. Level elevations of serum pro-inflammatory cytokines, IL-1ß, and TNF-α and macrophage CD68 were decreased in wounded rats treated with myricetin. Thus, it can be suggested that the enhancements in inflammatory cytokines as well as systemic reorganization after myricetin treatment may be recommended to play a crucial part in the promotion of wound healing. The findings suggest that treatment with a higher dose of myricetin was better in improving wound curing in rats. It could serve as a potent anti-inflammatory agent and can be used as an adjunctive or alternative agent in the future.

A novel virus named 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV/SARS-CoV-2) causes symptoms that are classified as coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Respiratory conditions are extensively described among more serious cases of COVID-19, and the onset of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is one of the hallmark features of critical COVID-19 cases. ARDS can be directly life-threatening because it is associated with low blood oxygenation levels and can result in organ failure. There are no generally recognized effective treatments for COVID-19, but treatments are urgently needed. Anti-viral medications and vaccines are in the early developmental stages and may take many months or even years to fully develop. At present, management of COVID-19 with respiratory and ventilator support are standard therapeutic treatments, but unfortunately such treatments are associated with high mortality rates. Therefore, it is imperative to consider novel new therapeutic interventions to treat/ameliorate respiratory conditions associated with COVID-19. Alternate treatment strategies utilizing clinically available treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), packed red blood cell (pRBC) transfusions, or erthropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) therapy were hypothesized to increase oxygenation of tissues by alternative means than standard respiratory and ventilator treatments. It was also revealed that alternative treatments currently being considered for COVID-19 such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine by increasing hemoglobin production and increasing hemoglobin availability for oxygen binding and acetazolamine (for the treatment of altitude sickness) by causing hyperventilation with associated increasing levels of oxygen and decreasing levels of carbon dioxide in the blood may significantly ameliorate COVID-19 respiratory symptoms. In conclusion, is recommend, given HBOT, pRBC, and ESA therapies are currently available and routinely utilized in the treatment of other conditions, that such therapies be tried among COVID-19 patients with serious respiratory conditions and that future controlled-clinical trials explore the potential usefulness of such treatments among COVID-19 patients with respiratory conditions.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to image the radial peripapillary capillary vessel densities (RPCvds) of the affected eyes and fellow unaffected eyes of individuals with unilateral pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PES) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to compare the RPCvds with those of normal age-matched individuals. METHODS: The eyes were divided into three groups: the pseudoexfoliative material (PXM)-positive eyes of patients with clinically unilateral PES (study eyes), the fellow eyes of the PXM-positive patients (fellow eyes), and the eyes of healthy patients (control eyes). Those patients with glaucomatous findings, including peripapillary hemorrhaging, cupping, notching, focal thinning of the neuroretinal rim, or intraocular pressure readings greater than 21 mmHg, were excluded from the study. The RPCvd (%), peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness (µm), cup/disc area ratio, rim area (mm2), disc area (mm2), and cup volume (mm3) were automatically calculated via OCTA. RESULTS: This cross-sectional comparative prospective study included 128 eyes of 88 patients: 40 PXM-positive eyes, 40 fellow eyes, and 48 control eyes. The RPCvds and RNFL thicknesses in the peripapillary region were significantly lower in the study eyes than in the fellow eyes and the control eyes (p = 0.011 and p = 0.011, p = 0.009 and p = 0.004, respectively). There were no significant differences between the fellow eyes and the control eyes with regard to the RPCvd and RNFL values in any region (p > 0.05 for all). CONCLUSION: Lower RPCvds could provoke capillary deficiency and deterioration of the perfusion of the optic nerve head in patients with PES.

Capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation syndrome (CM-AVM) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by heterozygous mutations in RASA1 and EPHB4. Capillary stains in CM-AVM are compatible with Schöbinger's phase I AVMs. Vascular laser has been classically contraindicated for the treatment of AVMs, as there is a fear of accelerating their progression. In this study, we have treated capillary stains in five CM-AVM patients with pulsed dye laser, with improvement and without worsening or recurrence of the lesions after 1 year of clinical and ultrasound follow-up.

Acute ischemic stroke is a leading cause of disability with limited therapeutic options. Continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) has recently been shown to be a promising noninvasive therapeutic strategy for neuroprotection in ischemic stroke patients. Here, we investigated the protective effects of cTBS following acute infarction using a photothrombotic stroke (PTS) model in the right posterior parietal cortex (PPC) of C57BL/6 mice. Treatment with cTBS resulted in a reduction in the volume of the infarct region and significantly increased vascular diameter and blood flow velocity in peri-infarct region, as well as decreased the numbers of calcium binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1)-positive microglia and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive astrocytes. Moreover, the number of CD16/32 positive microglia was decreased, whereas the number of CD206 positive microglia was increased. In addition, performance in a water maze task was significantly improved. These results indicated that cTBS protected against PPC infarct region, leading to an improvement in spatial cognitive function, possibly as a result of changes to cerebral microvascular function and inflammatory responses.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a terrible microvascular disorder causing blindness. Retinal inflammation is the early stage in DR, which is believed to play a crucial role in the development of it. Shengpuhuang-tang (ST), a traditional herbal formula, which has effective treatment of fundus bleeding disorder. ST exerts protective effects against DR in rats, but its underlying mechanism of this efficacy remains unknown. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine the mechanism and the efficacy of ST on retinal inflammation in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The administration of ST was initiated at 4 weeks after diabetes induction and continued for 12 weeks. Retinal vessel permeability was evaluated by using FITC-dextran and Evans blue. Retinal leukostasis was evaluated with FITC-coupled concanavalin A lectin (ConA). Moreover, western blotting was performed to detect TNF-α, ICAM-1 and the relative expression levels of IκBα, IKKß, and p65 in vivo. RESULTS: The results showed that the retinal inflammation in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was significantly decreased by ST. ST could decreased the expression levels of TNF-α, ICAM-1 and inhibited the expression of p-IKKß, p-p65 and IκBα. It could also inhibited the nuclear transfer of p65. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, these data suggested that ST may have potential treatment strategies against early stage of diabetic retinopathy through NF-κB pathway.
