RESUMO
We present a case of a progressive symptomatic intramedullary cyst, diagnosed decades after Lipiodol injection. Lipiodol was originally administered intrathecally for the radiologic diagnosis of spinal masses. A link between the lesion and the history of Lipiodol injection was never suspected. Surgical exploration revealed a membrane above the lesion, separating the intradural space in a cranial and caudal compartment. On the level of the cyst, we identified glassy pearls containing a fatty liquid, compatible with Lipiodol deposits. We hypothesize that the syrinx is secondary to the impact of cerebrospinal fluid pulsations on the reactive membrane and that this membrane originated from an arachnoiditis caused by Lipiodol deposits. Lipiodol was indeed abandoned after it was found to cause arachnoiditis and neurologic sequelae. Despite the cessation of its usage, the causal role of Lipiodol in arachnoiditis and spinal cyst formation should still be considered, as symptoms may arise many years after Lipiodol administration.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the hepatic injury induced by CCl4in SD rat. METHOD: 40 SD rats were allocated to male and female group, consisting of 20 animals/sex/group. SD rats were given at 2 mL x kg(-1) of 10% CCl4 through celiac injection per 3 day for 12 days. All rats were killed by anaesthesia of ethyl ether and bleeding through abdominal aorta at 12th day. Liver tissue was fixed in 10% neutral formalin, embedded in paraffin, cut at a nominal thickness of 3 microm, stained with hematoxylin and eosin ( H&E) , evaluated at by microscopic examination. RESULT: 19 cases with local necrosis, 8 cases with fatty degeneration, 9 cases with cystic degeneration and 2 cases with fibrosis were seen in group male. 20 cases with local necrosis, 9 cases with fatty cases degeneration, 1 case with cystic degeneration and 1 case with fibrosis were seen in group female. The incidence of cystic degeneration in male group was found significantly higher than that in female group (P < 0. 05) , but the incidence of other lesions was no significant difference between male and female group. CONCLUSION: CCl4 induces local necrosis , fatty degeneration, fibrosis and cystic degeneration in SD rat. The incidences of local necrosis , fatty degeneration and fibrosis were no significantly difference between male and female rat, but the incidence of cystic degeneration in male rats was significant higher than that in female rats.

This case presentation describes a 48-year-old man who experienced subcutaneous nodules 9 months after self-injection of sesame seed oil into the pectoral area for muscle augmentation. This procedure was reported by our patient to be frequently performed in the body-building and fitness scene. Ultrasound imaging showed multiple, low reflecting round nodular areas of up to 1 cm diameter in both breasts. Excision of a representative nodule revealed a cyst filled with oily material, surrounded by granulomatous tissue. This case report demonstrates an unusual side effect of augmentation measures in body-builders.
