BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine and metabolic disorder that is common in women of reproductive age. The clinical features of PCOS include hyperandrogenemia and polycystic ovarian changes. Bailing capsule (BL), a proprietary Chinese medicine that contains fermented Cordyceps sinensis powder, has been applied to treat PCOS. However, the specific active ingredients of BL and its mechanisms of action are yet to be elucidated. METHODS: Initially, the effectiveness of BL on PCOS model mice was evaluated. Subsequently, the active ingredients of BL were searched in the TCMSP and TCM Systems Pharmacology databases, and their targets were predicted using Swiss Target Prediction and SEA databases. Furthermore, the GEO gene database was used to screen for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to PCOS. Data from Gene Card, OMIM, DDT, and Drugbank databases were then combined to establish a PCOS disease gene library. Cross targets were imported into the STRING database to construct a protein-protein interaction network. In addition, GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses were performed using Metascape and DAVID databases and visualized using Cytoscape software and R 4.2.3. The core targets were docked with SYBYL-X software, and their expressions in PCOS mice were further verified using qPCR. RESULTS: The core active ingredients of BL were identified to be linoleyl acetate, cholesteryl palmitate, arachidonic acid, among others. Microarray data sets from four groups containing disease and normal samples were obtained from the GEO database. A total of 491 DEGs and 106 drug-disease cross genes were selected. Estrous cycle and ovarian lesions were found to be improved in PCOS model mice following BL treatment. While the levels of testosterone, progesterone, and prolactin decreased, that of estradiol increased. qPCR findings indicated that the expressions of JAK2, PPARG, PI3K, and AKT1 were upregulated, whereas those of ESR1 and IRS1 were downregulated in PCOS model mice. After the administration of BL, the expressions of associated genes were regulated. This study demonstrated that BL exerted anti-PCOS effects via PIK3CA, ESR1, AKT, PPARG, and IRS1 targets affecting PI3K-Akt signaling pathways. DISCUSSION: This research clarified the multicomponent, multitarget, and multichannel action of BL and provided a theoretical reference for further investigations on its pharmacological basis and molecular mechanisms against PCOS.

Objective: To retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics and pregnancy outcomes of patients with the non-obstetric acute abdomen (AAD) during pregnancy. Methods: A total of 124 patients with non-obstetric AAD during pregnancy were selected, including acute gastroenteritis (n = 42), acute appendicitis (n = 24), pedicle torsion of ovarian tumor (n = 21), acute pancreatitis (n = 10), urinary stones (n = 8), acute cholecystitis (n = 5), ruptured ovarian cyst (n = 6), red degeneration of hysteromyoma (n = 4), pedicle torsion of subserosal hysteromyoma (n = 3) and intestinal obstruction (n = 1). The clinical data of included patients were collected, and their clinical manifestations, clinical diagnosis, treatment modalities, and pregnancy outcomes were analyzed. Results: Common clinical manifestations included abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, elevated leukocytes, and neutrophil count. Clinical diagnosis analysis revealed acute gastroenteritis (n = 42), acute appendicitis (n = 24), pedicle torsion of ovarian tumor (n = 21), acute pancreatitis (n = 10), urinary stones (n = 8), acute cholecystitis (n = 5), ruptured ovarian cyst (n = 6), red degeneration of hysteromyoma (n = 4), pedicle torsion of subserosal hysteromyoma (n = 3) and intestinal obstruction (n = 1) in patients. Surgery was performed for conditions such as acute appendicitis and ovarian tumor torsion, while conservative treatment was preferred for cases of acute gastroenteritis. 65 patients received surgery and 59 patients received conservative treatment. The pregnancy outcomes indicated 113 patients with full-term delivery, 5 with premature delivery, 6 with miscarriage and 1 with fetal death. Pregnancy outcomes varied, with 113 patients achieving full-term delivery, 5 experiencing premature delivery, 6 undergoing miscarriage, and 1 case of fetal death. Conclusion: Non-obstetric AAD during pregnancy manifests clinically as nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, elevated body temperature, and leukocytes, all of which have pregnancy outcomes. Pregnant patients with non-obstetric AAD should be diagnosed according to their clinical manifestations, physical examinations, and relevant imaging examinations, and appropriate treatment modalities should be selected to achieve a better pregnancy outcome and ensure the safety of the mother and baby during the clinical diagnosis and treatment process. This study underscores the need for prompt and accurate diagnosis in pregnant patients with non-obstetric AAD, to optimize pregnancy outcomes and ensure maternal-fetal safety.

CONTEXT: Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) is an essential sensor that regulates fundamental biological processes like cell growth, proliferation and energy metabolism. The treatment of disease by sirolimus, a mTORC1 inhibitor, causes adverse effects, such as female fertility disorders. AIMS: The objective of the study was to decipher the reproductive consequences of a downregulation of mTORC1 in the hypothalamus. METHODS: The reduced expression of mTORC1 was induced after intracerebroventricular injection of lentivirus expressing a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) against regulatory associated protein of TOR (raptor) in adult female mice (ShRaptor mice). KEY RESULTS: The ShRaptor mice were fertile and exhibited a 15% increase in the litter size compared with control mice. The histological analysis showed an increase in antral, preovulatory follicles and ovarian cysts. In the hypothalamus, the GnRH mRNA and FSH levels in ShRaptor mice were significantly elevated. CONCLUSIONS: These results support the hypothesis that mTORC1 in the central nervous system participates in the regulation of female fertility and ovarian function by influencing the GnRH neuronal activity. IMPLICATIONS: These results suggest that a lower mTORC1 activity directly the central nervous system leads to a deregulation in the oestrous cycle and an induction of ovarian cyst development.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of curcumin on the insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1)/phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/endometrial expression of glucose 4 (GLUT4) signalling pathway and its regulator, phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), in a rat model of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). METHODS: PCOS model was induced by letrozole intragastric administration. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into 4 groups according to a random number table: (1) control group; (2) PCOS group, which was subjected to PCOS and received vehicle; (3) curcumin group, which was subjected to PCOS and treated with curcumin (200 mg/kg for 2 weeks); and (4) curcumin+LY294002 group, which was subjected to PCOS, and treated with curcumin and LY294002 (a specific PI3K inhibitor). Serum hormone levels (17 ß-estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, progesterone, and testosterone) were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, and insulin resistance (IR) was assessed using the homeostasis model assessment of IR. Ovarian tissues were stained with haematoxylin and eosin for pathological and apoptosis examination. Expression levels of key transcriptional regulators and downstream targets, including IRS1, PI3K, protein kinase B (AKT), GLUT4, and PTEN, were measured via reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blot, respectively. RESULTS: The PCOS group showed impaired ovarian morphology and function. Compared with the PCOS group, curcumin treatment exerted ovarioprotective effects, down-regulated serum testosterone, restored IR, inhibited inflammatory cell infiltration in ovarian tissues, decreased IRS1, PI3K, and AKT expressions, and up-regulated GLUT4 and PTEN expressions in PCOS rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). In contrast, IRS1, PI3K, AKT, and PTEN expression levels were not significantly different between PCOS and curcumin+LY294002 groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The beneficial effects of curcumin on PCOS rats included the alteration of serum hormone levels and recovery of morphological ovarian lesions, in which, PTEN, a new target, may play a role in regulating the IRS1/PI3K/GLUT4 pathway.

Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. It affects many women during their reproductive age, causing years of pelvic pain and potential infertility. Its pathophysiology remains largely unknown, which limits early diagnosis and treatment. We characterized peritoneal and ovarian lesions at single-cell transcriptome resolution and compared them to matched eutopic endometrium, unaffected endometrium and organoids derived from these tissues, generating data on over 122,000 cells across 14 individuals. We spatially localized many of the cell types using imaging mass cytometry. We identify a perivascular mural cell specific to the peritoneal lesions, with dual roles in angiogenesis promotion and immune cell trafficking. We define an immunotolerant peritoneal niche, fundamental differences in eutopic endometrium and between lesion microenvironments and an unreported progenitor-like epithelial cell subpopulation. Altogether, this study provides a holistic view of the endometriosis microenvironment that represents a comprehensive cell atlas of the disease in individuals undergoing hormonal treatment, providing essential information for future therapeutics and diagnostics.

Phthalates are multifunctional compounds with extensive applications and emerging environmental pollutants. Due to their ubiquity in the environment and unavoidable exposure to humans, concerns have been voiced about public health dangers. This study was aimed to explore the diethyl phthalate (DEP) toxicity and the potential protective effect of black coffee in female Swiss albino mice. Four-week-old mice, weighing 12 ± 1 g were segregated into five groups (n = 10), designated as G-I (without any treatment), G-II (treated with corn oil), G-III (exposed to 1.5 mg/g body wt. (B.W.) DEP), G-IV (received 2 µg/g B.W coffee), and G-V (co-administrated with 1.5 mg/g DEP and 2 µg/g B.W coffee). Before dose administration, the coffee extract was assessed for its antioxidant potential through FRAP, TPC, and GC-MS analyses. Respective phthalates/coffee doses were administrated orally, once a day for 8 weeks consecutively starting from the prepubescent stage. After 56 days, mice were acclimated for 4 days then dissected. Morphological assessments showed an irregular shape of the ovaries in DEP-treated mice as compared to the control. The average bodyweight of DEP-intoxicated mice (p ≤ 0.05) increased notably against control, while DEP plus coffee group showed a regular gain in the average weight of mice. The gonado-somatic index showed non-significant variations among all groups. Micrometric studies showed that the diameter of secondary follicles (115 µm) in the ovaries of DEP-exposed mice (p ≤ 0.001) decreased significantly as compared to control (204 µm); conversely, follicular diameter in the coffee control group (248) increased significantly. Serum FSH and LH levels were significantly increased in DEP-exposed mice with a noteworthy decrease in estrogen level while hormonal levels of all other groups were comparable to control. Histological sections of DEP-exposed mice ovaries showed anatomical disruptions contrary to other groups, which were comparable with control. Antioxidant potential was checked in ovaries homogenates; FRAP values showed a notable decrease in DEP group in comparison with the control group, in contrast to G-V, when DEP was co-administrated with coffee. This study concluded that black coffee has protective effect, against DEP-instigated reproductive toxicity in Swiss albino female mice.

BACKGROUND: More than a third of women could develop ovarian cysts during their lifetime. Jingshu granules are used for the treatment of gynecological disease of primary dysmenorrhea. However, the molecular mechanisms of Jingshu granules in ovarian cysts are still unreported. We aimed to find the active ingredients, molecular targets, and potential signaling pathways of Jingshu granules in ovarian cysts by using the systemic pharmacological analysis. METHODS: Firstly, the effect of Jingshu granules on female hormones and reproductive organs of young female rats was evaluated. Secondly, candidate pharmaceutical ingredients of Jingshu granules were retrieved from the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology (TCMSP) database and analysis platform. Potential protein targets for the active ingredients in Jingshu granules were then identified according to the oral bioavailability and drug-likeness indices. Thirdly, ovarian cyst-related gene targets were screened based on different databases. Finally, enrichment analysis was used to analyze the potential biological function of intersection targets between Jingshu granules and ovarian cysts. RESULTS: In young female rats, Jingshu granules reduced the secretion of estradiol, progesterone, and prolactin and could affect the development of the uterus. This suggested that Jingshu granules played roles in hormone secretion and reproduction. From the TCMSP, a total of 1021 pharmaceutical ingredients of Jingshu granules were retrieved. After further screening, a total of 166 active ingredients and 159 protein targets of Jingshu granules were identified. In addition, 4488 gene targets of ovarian cysts were screened out. After taking the intersection, a total of 110 intersection targets were identified between potential protein targets of Jingshu granules and gene targets of ovarian cysts. In the functional analysis of 110 intersection targets, 8 signaling pathways including progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation (MAPK8 and CDK1 involved), GnRH signaling pathway (JUN involved), T cell receptor signaling pathway and Toll-like receptor signaling pathway (MAPK1 involved), NOD-like receptor signaling pathway (TNF, IL6, and IL1B involved), p53 signaling pathway (CDK2 and CDK4 involved), VEGF signaling pathway (MAPK14 involved), and PPAR signaling pathway (PPARG involved) were obtained. CONCLUSION: Our study revealed that Jingshu granules could function in patients with ovarian cysts through a number of molecular targets and signaling pathways. Our study may provide a new field into the mechanisms of Jingshu granules in ovarian cysts, from the molecular to the signaling pathway level.

McCune-Albright-Braitsev Syndrome (MAB syndrome) is a very rare multisystem disease manifested by fibrous bone dysplasia, coffee-and-milk colored spots, hyperfunction of various endocrine glands and a number of pathologies of other body systems. We present a description of a clinical case of a severe progressive course of MAB Syndrome in a nine-year-old girl. With this diagnosis, the girl is observation of the girl began when she was 2.5 years old, when spots of coffee-and-milk, polyosseous fibrous dysplasia, peripheral premature sexual development against a backdrop of estrogen--secreting ovarian cysts, multinodular goiter were detected. In the process of dynamic observation, it was noted that the child's active growth stopped against a backdrop of deformities of the skeletal system with multiple repeated fractures of the extremities; progression of skull deformity with stenosis of the optic nerve canals and deterioration of visual acuity; development of STH hypersecretion, hypophosphatemic rickets, tachycardia. Appropriate suppressive / replacement therapy was prescribed for each of the endocrine dysfunctions. The article presents algorithms for examining a girl in dynamics, criteria for choosing a component-wise management tactics and a discussion of the features of the course of all manifestations of the Syndrome.

Importance: The risk of malignant ovarian cancer associated with simple cysts is unknown. Objective: To quantify the risk of ovarian cancer based on ultrasonographic characteristics of ovarian masses, including simple cysts, in a large unselected population. Design, Setting, and Participants: This was a nested case-control study of patients enrolled in Kaiser Permanente Washington, a large integrated health care system in Washington State. Participants were 72 093 women who underwent pelvic ultrasonography between January 1, 1997, and December 31, 2008. Analysis was completed in April 2017. Exposures: Ultrasonographic characteristics of ovarian masses measured in 1043 women, and also, using weights derived from the sampling strategy, estimated frequencies for the entire cohort. Main Outcomes and Measures: Malignant ovarian cancer, identified through December 31, 2011, by cancer registry linkage. Results: Among 210 women who were diagnosed as having ovarian cancer, 49 were younger than 50 years, and 161 were 50 years or older. Ultrasonography findings were predictive of cancer (C statistic, 0.89). The risk of cancer was significantly elevated in women with complex cysts or solid masses, with likelihood ratios relative to women with normal ovaries ranging from 8 to 74 and the 3-year risk of cancer ranging from 9 to 430 cases per 1000 women based on patient age and ultrasonography findings. In contrast, the 23.8% of women younger than 50 years and the 13.4% of women 50 years or older with simple cysts were not at a significantly increased risk of ovarian cancer compared with women with normal ovaries. Likelihood ratios associated with the detection of a simple cyst were 0.00 in women younger than 50 years (no cancers were identified) and 0.10 (95% CI, 0.01-0.48) in women 50 years or older, and the absolute 3-year risk of cancer ranged from 0 to 0.5 cases per 1000 women. Conclusions and Relevance: According to this study, the ultrasonographic appearance of ovarian masses is strongly associated with a woman's risk of ovarian cancer. Simple cysts are not associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer, whereas complex cysts or solid masses are associated with a significantly increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Multiple sclerosis is one of the most salient degenerative disorders of CNS with dysregulated immune process that resulted in axonal damage and demyelination. In the present investigation, the serum level of testosterone was assessed in women who were struggling with multiple sclerosis (MS). Also, the level of omega-3, vitamin D, and the irregular menstruation in women 5 years before the onset MS symptoms were surveyed. Although the levels of omega-3 and vitamin D in women MS patients were non-significant and significantly less than the healthy ones, they were significantly less in the whole population of MS patients. However, the MS patients more experienced more irregular menstruation some years before the onset of MS with the low level of testosterone. Based on the presented findings, it might be said that the vitamin D intake has significant protective role in women and men MS patients unlike the omega-3 that had significant protective role just in men. However, vitamin D metabolism encoding genes of CYP27B1 and CYP24A1 and predicting MS risk gene of HLA-DRB1*15:01 define its fate as well. Besides, vitamin D intake, through the proliferation decrement of pro-inflammatory cells, decreases of pro-inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNF-α, INF-γ) and auto-immune pathways have potential role in recovery of irregular menstruation in women with the low level of testosterone as a red warning factor of MS development. The low level of testosterone and vitamin D consumption increase the neural damage and pro-inflammatory pathways in MS patients, and the difference among the investigations is related to the long-standing history of MS that influences severity of damage to the neural cells and biomolecules and complicate its recovery.

Obtaining fast screening information on molecular composition of a tissue sample is of great importance for a disease biomarkers search and for online surgery control. In this study, high resolution mass spectrometry analysis of eutopic and ectopic endometrium tissues (90 samples) is done using direct tissue spray mass spectrometry in both positive and negative ion modes. The most abundant peaks in the both ion modes are those corresponding to lipids. Species of three lipid classes are observed, phosphatidylcholines (PC), sphingomyelins (SM) and phosphoethanolamines (PE). Direct tissue analysis gives mainly information on PC and SM lipids (29 species) in positive ion mode and PC, SM and PE lipids (50 species) in negative ion mode which gives complementary data for endometriosis foci differentiation. The biggest differences were found for phospholipids with polyunsaturated acyls and alkils. Although, tissue spray shows itself as appropriate tool for tissue investigation, caution should be paid to the interpretation of mass spectra because of their higher complexity with more possible adducts formation and multiple interferences must be taken into account. The present work extends the application of direct tissue analysis for the rapid differentiation between endometriotic tissues of different foci.

RESUMO

Infertility is a medical and psychosocial problem with a high prevalence. There are different treatments for this problem in Iranian traditional medicine. A 28-year-old woman presented with the complaints of 4 emergency operations of the left ovarian cyst during 4 years and infertility. Diagnostic laparoscopy showed an ovarian cyst, adhesion, and endometriosis. Hysteroscopy was unremarkable. After 2 months of letrozole administration, the ovarian cyst ruptured again. Considering the failure of conventional treatments, Iranian traditional medicine products were administered to the patient. After 3 months, the patient conceived and delivered a healthy boy through normal vaginal delivery. These compounds may help with pregnancy as a uterine tonic, vitalizer, and aphrodisiac with brain and cardiac tonic properties.

Van Wyk-Grumbach syndrome (VWGS) is a rare complication of prolonged untreated juvenile hypothyroidism characterized by precocious puberty and enlarged multicystic ovaries. A 13-year-old girl visited our outpatient clinic due to menstrual irregularities. She had precocious puberty, pituitary hyperplasia and multiple cystic ovaries in addition to clinical signs of severe congenital hypothyroidism. After the initiation of L-thyroxine therapy, the symptoms were alleviated in a short time. This rare syndrome is easy to be misdiagnosed as pituitary and ovarian tumor. High degree of suspicion and timely diagnosis can prevent unnecessary surgical procedures because the symptoms can be reversed with thyroid hormone supplementation.

Adolescents present to outpatient and acute care settings commonly for evaluation and treatment of chronic pelvic pain (CPP). Primary care providers, gynecologists, pediatric and general surgeons, emergency department providers, and other specialists should be familiar with both gynecologic and nongynecologic causes of CPP so as to avoid delayed diagnoses and potential adverse sequelae. Treatment may include medications, surgery, physical therapy, trigger-point injections, psychological counseling, and complementary/alternative medicine. Additional challenges arise in caring for this patient population because of issues of confidentiality, embarrassment surrounding the history or examination, and combined parent-child decision making.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynaecological disease. Problems associated with endometriosis include dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia and infertility. We evaluated the omega-3 and fatty acid profiles in erythrocytes and tissues in patients with endometriosis (n = 10) or a functional ovarian cyst (n = 12), using a food frequency questionnaire that included questions about 117 food items typical of Korean meals. Erythrocyte levels of 20:5n3 and 22:6n3, the omega-3 index, and n-3 PUFA were significantly higher, and the n-6:n-3 ratio was significantly lower in the endometriosis group than in the functional ovarian cyst group. The functional ovarian cyst group consumed significantly more fruit than the group with endometriosis.

Sex determination in mammals requires interaction between the transcription factor GATA4 and its cofactor FOG2. We have recently described the function of both proteins in testis development beyond the sex determination stage; their roles in the postnatal ovary, however, remain to be defined. Here, we use gene targeting in mice to determine the requirement of GATA4 and FOG2 in ovarian development and folliculogenesis. The results from this study identify an essential role of the GATA4 protein in the ovarian morphogenetic program. We show that in contrast to the sex determination phase, which relies on the GATA4-FOG2 complex, the subsequent regulation of ovarian differentiation is dependent upon GATA4 but not FOG2. The loss of Gata4 expression within the ovary results in impaired granulosa cell proliferation and theca cell recruitment as well as fewer primordial follicles in the ovarian cortex, causing a failure in follicular development. Preantral follicular atresia is observed within the few follicles that develop despite Gata4 deficiency. The depletion of the follicular pool in GATA4 deficient ovary results in the formation of ovarian cysts and sterility.

We aimed to determine whether cells obtained from malignant ovarian tumors had different ex vivo 1H- and 31P (phosphorus-31)-magnetic resonance (MR) spectra compared to cells obtained from benign ovarian cysts. In addition, we aimed to assess the metabolic effects of chemotherapy on malignant cells obtained from peritoneal effusions of ovarian cancer patients. We included 20 ovarian cancer patients undergoing explorative laparotomy for tumor resection, 15 patients undergoing oophorectomy for benign ovarian cysts and 8 patients with advanced ovarian cancer with cancerous peritoneal effusion undergoing palliative percutaneous drainage. Ovarian and metastatic tissues were obtained from all patients undergoing laparotomy and analyzed using 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Cancerous cells from peritoneal effusions were incubated with 3 different anti-mitotic drugs (paclitaxel, cisplatin and carboplatin) at LC50 and the consequent metabolic changes were monitored using 31P-MRS. 1H-MRS revealed significantly higher intracellular lactate levels in cells obtained from ovarian tumors, most prominently in the moderately to poorly differentiated histological types, while total choline (Chol) compounds were higher in the moderately to poorly differentiated subgroup only. Ovarian cancer cells obtained from peritoneal effusions showed a significantly decreased glycerophosphocholine (GPC), glycerophosphoethanolamine (GPE) and uridine diphospho-sugar (UDPS) levels following ex vivo exposure to all 3 anti-mitotic drugs. Ex vivo 1H-MRS identified significant metabolic differences between cells obtained from ovarian tumors compared to those originating in benign ovarian cysts, including increased lactate and total choline compound levels. The 31P-MRS technique allowed characterization and monitoring of metabolic changes occurring in ovarian cancer cells in response to chemotherapy.

PURPOSE: Single-site laparoscopic surgery has become increasingly common. We herein report an easy and low-cost thoracic trocar technique (TTT) for these types of procedures and recommend the simpler name "transumbilical scarless surgery" (TUSS) to minimize confusion in nomenclature. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent TUSS by TTT using a thoracic trocar and surgical glove in our hospital between November 2011 and November 2012. Operating time, postoperative stay, and complications were detailed. RESULTS: A total of 101 TUSS by TTT were successfully performed, comprising appendectomy (n = 63), ovarian cyst excision (n = 7), splenectomy (n = 5), nephroureterectomy (n = 5), orchidopexy (n = 4), pyeloplasty (n = 3), nephrolithotomy (n = 2), orchiectomy (n = 2), varicocelectomy (n = 2), lymphangioma excision (n = 2), ureterectomy (n = 1), Morgagni diaphragmatic hernia repair (n = 1), ovarian detorsion (n = 1), antegrade continence enema (n = 1), intestinal resection anastomosis (n = 1), and intestinal duplication excision (n = 1). Kirschner wires were used for some organ traction. Nine patients required an additional port, but no major complications occurred. The postoperative stay (mean +/- standard deviation) was 3.2 +/- 1.4 days, and operating time was 58.9 +/- 38.3 minutes. CONCLUSION: We recommend the simpler name of TUSS to minimize confusion in nomenclature for all transumbilical single-incision laparoendoscopic surgeries. TTT is an easy and low-cost TUSS technique.
