Caregiver feeding practices during the complementary feeding period (6 months-2 years) may be particularly important for infants with Down syndrome (DS) as they are at higher risk for later health conditions (e.g., obesity, diabetes) that can be influenced by early feeding practices. However, how well caregivers of infants with DS are meeting infant feeding evidence-based practices is relatively unknown. Caregivers of infants with DS (N = 75) and caregivers of typically developing (TD) infants (N = 66) aged 0-2 years completed an online survey about their infant feeding practices and information sources. Caregiver practices and information sources were statistically compared between groups. Results indicated that there are significant differences in the feeding practices of caregivers of infants with DS when compared to caregivers of TD infants. Caregivers of infants with DS were less likely to meet infant feeding evidence-based practices than caregivers of TD infants. Caregivers of infants with DS were also more concerned about their infant's food intake and later weight status. Some individual feeding practices also significantly differed between groups, with caregivers of infants with DS more likely to meet evidence-based practices of purchasing iron rich foods and avoiding added salt, but less likely to use responsive feeding practices than caregivers of TD infants. Caregivers of infants with DS were also less likely to receive information about how to navigate the complementary feeding period than caregivers of TD infants. Coupled with existing research, the results of the present study suggest that infant feeding evidence-based practices should be reviewed for their appropriateness for this population and additional support for caregivers of infants with DS should be implemented to help them navigate this important period.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the mediating effect of psychological distress and mindful eating behaviors between orthorexia nervosa and academic self-efficacy among Lebanese university female students. METHODS: A total of 769 female participants enrolled in this cross-sectional study (mean age 21.58 ± 3.20 years). A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among university female students. The questionnaire consisted of Mindful Eating Behaviors Scale, ORTO-R, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, and Arabic version of Academic Self-Efficacy Scale. RESULTS: The results showed that psychological distress fully mediated the association between orthorexia nervosa and academic self-efficacy; higher orthorexia nervosa was significantly associated with less psychological distress (ß= -0.31, p =.05), with more psychological distress significantly associated with lower academic self-efficacy (ß= -0.32, p =.09). Focused eating fully mediated the association between orthorexia nervosa and academic self-efficacy; higher orthorexia nervosa was significantly associated with less focused eating (ß=-0.09, p =.04), with more focused eating significantly associated with better academic self-efficacy (ß = 1.40, p =.10). Orthorexia nervosa was not directly associated with academic self-efficacy in both models. CONCLUSION: This study shed light on important connections between orthorexia nervosa, psychological distress, mindful eating behaviors, and academic self-efficacy within the Lebanese context. The findings will have practical implications for both educational institutions and healthcare providers striving to support young female adults' overall well-being and academic success.

BACKGROUND: Weight-loss approaches involving mindfulness have been reported to reduce overeating behavior. We conducted a preliminary evaluation of the feasibility and effectiveness of a mindfulness mobile application (MMA) combined with a comprehensive lifestyle intervention (CLI) focused on weight loss and eating behaviors for people with metabolic syndrome based on post-intervention follow-up data. METHOD: Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to a CLI group or a CLI + MMA group. Participants received weekly CLI for 13 weeks, followed by telephone counseling for 13 weeks. The CLI + MMA group also had access to the MMA. Feasibility was assessed by the number of people who refused to participate, rate of adherence to the MMA, follow-up rate, and participant satisfaction. The preliminary endpoint was weight change (at 26 weeks). Participants completed the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ). A mixed linear model was used for efficacy analysis. RESULTS: Eight of the 40 participants declined to participate. The MMA was used 4.4 ± 1.7 days per week, but the rate of adherence declined over time. The follow-up rate was 100%, and there was no difference in participant satisfaction between the groups. There was no significant group-by-time interaction for weight loss (p = 0.924), but there was a significant interaction for the DEBQ restrained eating score (p = 0.033). CONCLUSIONS: This study found that CLI plus MMA was highly feasible and moderately acceptable. There were no significant differences in weight loss between the groups, but the CLI + MMA group showed an increase in restrained eating. Further large-scale studies are needed. In Pakistan, type 2 diabetes is widespread, and although dietary recommendations from healthcare professionals are critical to its treatment, cultural norms can have a great influence on the dietary habits of people living with diabetes (PLwD). Understanding the social aspects of the lives of PLwD is crucial when examining the effectiveness of nutritional recommendations and adjustments. This study investigated (1) how PLwD and their family members adjust their nutrition to the recommendations of healthcare professionals to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and (2) what do PLwD and their family members perceive as enablers and barriers to the necessary nutritional adjustments for managing T2DM. Prime consideration was given to experiences of living in Pakistan as the cultural context. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 30 PLwD and 17 family members; the data were analysed thematically. Three themes emerged: (i) 'Influence of family system, gender, and age on meals prepared at home': family hierarchy and opinions based on gender and age can enable or hinder nutritional adjustment in meals prepared at home; (ii) 'Temptations of "unhealthy" foods, festivals, cultural interactions, and social etiquette': family/social interactions at home, gatherings, or festivities can affect PLwD's ability to resist temptations to eat foods prohibited by healthcare professionals; and (iii) 'Folk knowledge, folk remedy, and the balance between culture and Western medicine': PLwD and their family members in Pakistan hold strong beliefs concerning foods' medicinal properties. Power dynamics within families need to be considered when making nutritional recommendations. Medical guidelines should acknowledge personal agency and cultural beliefs.

BACKGROUND: Orthorexia nervosa is a recently conceptualised pathological entity presenting as an obsessive focus on healthy eating with associated psychosocial impairment. AIMS: The present study investigated the differential associations between orthorexia nervosa and healthy orthorexia with distress and impairment. MATERIALS & METHODS: With a community sample (N = 268) multiple measures of orthorexia nervosa and health orthorexia were compared as explanatory variables in mediation structural equation modelling (SEM). Outcome variables assessed and investigated were psychological distress while demographic variables were controlled. The mediating roles of perfectionism and health anxiety on orthorexia nervosa were examined with further preventative mediation role of mindfulness on distress. RESULTS: Distinctive to other eating disorders, gender showed no significant effects on orthorexia nervosa and healthy orthorexia. Signalling measurement issues for this disorder, the different measures of orthorexia nervosa resulted in mixed findings regarding body mass index and age. Findings supported perfectionism and health anxiety as risk factors, as well as mindfulness acceptance as a preventative factor in both orthorexia nervosa and healthy orthorexia. Orthorexia nervosa and healthy orthorexia assessed by most measures, contrary to the expectations, had significant positive associations with psychological distress indicated by stress, anxiety, and depression. DISCUSSION & CONCLUSION: The complexity in differentiating orthorexia nervosa from healthy orthorexia calls for further investigation. This research effort should serve to substantiate the status of orthorexia nervosa as a distinct clinical disorder.

Sensory food aversion, an early childhood eating disorder, is a serious, permanent form of picky eating, in which the infant or the child consistently and persistently refuses certain foods based on specific characteristics, following one or more previous aversive experiences. Biological (sensory processing disorder, taste sensitivity) and environmental factors contribute to its development. Due to limited diet, specific dietary deficiencies may occur but weight gain is usually normal. Behavioral problems, anxiety disorder, autism spectrum disorder are often associated. Diagnosis can usually be made based on a detailed history, but further assessment may include pediatric examination, nutritionist consultation, and psychologic and occupational therapy assessment. Treatment is based on parent education and support in order to minimize mealtime battles and anxiety and to think together about strategies for expanding the child's diet and to help them to accept new foods. As part of the interdisciplinary team, the pediatrician's role is to monitor appropriate growth and development, exclude dietary deficiencies or prescribe supplementation if necessary. In our article, the screening and treatment of sensory processing disorder as part of the assessment of eating problems are introduced as an example of good clinical practice at the Early Childhood Eating and Sleep Disorder Outpatient Clinic at the Heim Pál National Institute of Pediatrics. The relationship between the consumption of hyper-palatable ultra-processed foods and the process of addiction gains notoriety due to its relationship with obesity. Food addiction is a complex phenomenon intrinsically related to the individual's behavioral, emotional, and subjective aspects. Therefore, using classical approaches to sensory science may be insufficient to understand better the individual's sensory experience with hyper-palatable foods. In this context, sensory and consumer science techniques with holistic approaches have been aimed at accessing more subjective consumer perceptions. This study used the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS 2.0) to investigate the prevalence of food addiction and the Structured Projective Mapping (S-MP) and Sorting techniques to verify how individuals with and without food addiction perceive and understand different types of food. The prevalence of food addiction was 21.77% (n = 59 out of 271) and was associated with a higher BMI but not with sociodemographic aspects. Projective Mapping (RV = 0.937) and Sorting (RV = 0.934) indicated that perception in relation to attributes such as health and pleasure was similar for all investigated foods in individuals with or without food addiction. The presence of addictive eating behavior does not seem to be related to the way individuals perceive foods from different categories, for example, minimally or highly processed and hyper-palatable foods.

BACKGROUND: Mindful eating has seen an increase in clinical and non-clinical practices of changing health outcomes. Meanwhile, the restriction of not having validated scales in other languages proposes a barrier to exploring the impact of mindful eating cross-culturally, and specific to the present project, across Greek-speaking populations, limiting the potential of exploring the association with Mediterranean dieting. METHODS: In the present research, volunteers (n = 706) completed online the Mindful Eating Behaviour Scale and the Mindful Eating Scale. A forward-backwards translation, leading to face validity, and was assessed for internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha) and followed up by an assessment of the factorial structure of the scales. Divergent and convergent validity was explored using motivations to eat palatable foods, grazing, craving, Dusseldorf orthorexia, Salzburg emotional eating, and the Salzburg stress eating scales. RESULTS: Results indicated that both scales displayed good internal consistency, and the assessment of the factorial structure of the scales was equally good and semi-consistent with the English versions, with parallel analyses and item loadings proposing problems that have been shown in critical review literature. Associations of mindful eating scales to other eating behaviours were replicated to previously established findings with English-speaking populations. CONCLUSIONS: Findings that deviated from the expected outcomes are central to the discussion on the measurement of mindful eating, and further direction highlights the way forward for researchers and clinicians. PURPOSE: This research was conducted to examine the relationships between mindfulness, emotional eating, weight control self-efficacy, and obesity in adolescents. DESIGN AND METHODS: The research was conducted with 198 adolescents aged 13-18 years in three high schools in the central county of a province in Türkiye. Data were collected using a sociodemographic information form, the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale-Adolescents, the Emotional Eating Scale for Children and Adolescents, and the Weight-Efficacy Lifestyle Questionnaire for Adolescents-Short Form. In this study, adolescents' height and weight were measured to determine the effects of the study variables on their body mass indexes (BMIs). RESULTS: The variables were analyzed according to BMI. The mean age of the adolescents participating in the research was 15.25 ± 1.01 years; 52% were female, and 85% were ninth-grade high school students. Their mean height was 170.33 ± 8.59 cm, and their mean weight was 62.24 ± 12.84 kg. The adolescents' BMI was found to have a low-level, significant negative correlation with their mindfulness, a low-level, significant positive correlation with their emotional eating, and a low-level significant negative correlation with their weight control self-efficacy. Adolescents' mindfulness, emotional eating, and weight control self-efficacy scores significantly predicted their BMI and explained 14.1% of the variance in their BMI levels. CONCLUSIONS: Mindfulness, emotional eating, and weight control self-efficacy in adolescents have a facilitating effect on the management of obesity. IMPLICATIONS TO PRACTICE: Multidimensional programs should be developed that take into account the interaction of parents, children, and the environment, which will pave the way for the development of healthy nutrition behaviors and contribute to the prevention of obesity.

OBJECTIVE: Loss-of-control and overeating are common in adolescents with high body mass index (BMI). Mindfulness may affect negative affect, and both may relate to loss-of-control and overeating. Yet, there is limited understanding of these associations in adolescents' daily lives. METHODS: Forty-five adolescents (77% female; Mage = 14.4 years, SDage = 1.7 years) with high weight (92% with BMI [kg/m2 ] ≥85th percentile for age/sex) provided daily, repeated measurements of mindfulness, negative affect, loss-of-control, and overeating for ~7 days (M = 5.6 days; range = 1-13). Multilevel mixed modeling was conducted to test within-person (intraindividual) and between-person (interindividual) associations for the same-day (concurrent) and next-day (time-ordered/prospective). RESULTS: There were within-person and between-person associations of higher mindfulness with lower negative affect on the same-day and next-day. Greater between-person mindfulness related to lower odds of adolescents' loss-of-control occurrence (same-day) and conversely, more perceived control over eating (same-day and next-day). Greater within-person mindfulness related to less odds of next-day overeating. DISCUSSION: Dynamic relations exist among mindfulness, negative affect, and eating in adolescents at-risk for excess weight gain. Mindfulness may be an important element to consider in loss-of-control and overeating. Future work using momentary-data within an experimental design would help disentangle the intraindividual effects of increasing mindfulness/decreasing negative affect on disordered eating. PUBLIC SIGNIFICANCE: Loss-of-control and overeating are common in teenagers with high weight. Greater mindfulness-present-moment, non-judgmental attention-and less negative emotions may relate to healthier eating, but we do not know how these processes play out in teenagers' daily lives. Addressing this knowledge gap, the current findings showed that greater daily mindfulness, but not negative affect, related to less loss-of-control/overeating, suggesting the importance of mindfulness for eating patterns in teenagers' daily lives.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a nutrition education package on feeding practices, nutrient intakes and growth of infants in rural Tanzania. DESIGN: Cluster-randomized controlled trial in 18 villages allocated to nutrition education package (n = 9) or routine health education (n = 9 villages), measured at baseline (6 months) and end of the trial (12 months). SETTING: Mpwapwa district. PARTICIPANTS: Infants aged 6-12 months and their mothers. INTERVENTION(S): Six months of nutrition education package (group education, counseling, cooking demonstrations) and regular home visits by village health workers. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Primary outcome measure was the mean change in length-for-age z-scores. Secondary outcomes included mean changes in weight-for-length z-scores (WLZ), intakes of energy, fat, iron and zinc, the proportion of children consuming foods from ≥ 4 food groups (ie, dietary diversity) and consuming the recommended number of semisolid/soft meals and snacks per day (ie, meal frequency). ANALYSIS: Multilevel mixed-effects regression models. RESULTS: Mean change in length-for-age z-scores (ß = 0.20, P = 0.02), energy (in kcal) (ß = 43.8, P = 0.02), and fat (in grams) (ß =2.7, P = 0.03) intakes were significant in the intervention but not in the control group. There was no effect on iron and zinc intakes. More infants in the intervention than the control group consumed meals from ≥ 4 food groups (71.8% vs 45.3%, P = 0.002). The mean increase in meal frequency (ß = 0.29, P = 0.02) and dietary diversity (ß = 0.40, P = 0.01) were more significant in the intervention than control. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: The nutrition education package is feasible and can be implemented with high coverage, demonstrating the potential to improve feeding practices, nutrient intake and growth in rural Tanzania.

Purpose: To explore the relationship between emotional eating behavior and the weight loss effect of the 211 Diet body weight management method in obese women of childbearing age. Methods: From March 2021 to November 2021, 33 obese women of childbearing age who were recommended by gynecologists to achieve weight management were selected from the gynecological outpatient department of The Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University via the target sampling method. The participants who met all the study inclusion criteria and did not meet any of the exclusion criteria underwent a 40-day 211 Diet body weight management program. Body mass index (BMI) was collected on the day before the formal start and the first day after 40 days of weight loss. The 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Weight Efficacy Lifestyle Questionnaire-Short Form (WEL-SF) were employed to evaluate participants' anxiety, depression and dietary self-efficacy before and after weight loss. On the day before the formal start of the program, the Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ) was used to investigate the causes of previous induced eating. Results: The weight of the participants before weight loss was positively correlated with the previous emotional eating scores (r = 0.37; P < .05); after 40 days of weight loss, body weight and BMI were significantly lower than before weight loss (P < .05); BMI reduction value = 1.97 + 0.16*PHQ9 D-value (R2 = 0.35, B = 0.16; P < .001); there was no correlation between WEL-SF scores before and after weight loss (P > .05); WEL-SF scores D-value was positively correlated with previous emotional eating scores (r = 0.41; P < .05), WEL-SF D-value = -22.09 + 1.13*emotional eating (R2=0.16, B=1.13; P < .05); there was no difference among WEL-SF, GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores before and after weight loss (P > .05). Conclusion: The participants' relatively higher body weight before weight loss was related to their previous relatively more significant emotional eating behaviors. In obese women of childbearing age with more obvious previous emotional eating behaviors, the 211 Diet body weight management method may be more beneficial for weight loss.

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To determine of the nutrition peculiarities in children with ASD. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study involved 37 children with ASD from 2 -12 years and thier mothers, in according to reveal its disorder effect on the clinical course of ASD in children. RESULTS: Results: It was shown role of irrational nutrition of the mother during pregnancy, peculiarities of family food traditions, problems of breastfeeding and com-plementary feeding. Eating behavior of mothers during pregnancy were: monotonous nutrition and an inadequate diet. The family food preferences were: varied and included both traditional and specific food preferences ( vegan, vegeterian, monotony diet). CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The analysis of the eating behavior in the ASD children, taking into account the age peculiarities, was carried out. Intolerance to certain products was noted. Also effectiveness of the elimination diet was shown. Elimination from the diet of the white flour products within 6 months has a positive result which evaluated by digestive and cognitive signs.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to determine the stress, anxiety and eating conditions of health personnel working in COVID-19 clinics, to evaluate how they interact with each other with a holistic approach, and to examine the role of variables such as gender and BMI in these relationships. It was determined that 1-unit increase in the TFEQ-18 score decreased stress and anxiety levels 1.09 and 1.028 times, respectively. We were able to show that stress and anxiety levels of participants negatively affect their eating behavior and anxiety levels of health personnel negatively affect their eating behavior.

Objective: To explore the relationship between nutrient-related dietary pattern and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in middle-aged and elderly people. Methods: A total of 6 444 middle-aged and elderly people aged ≥55 years were selected in 2018 China Health and Nutrition Survey. MCI was evaluated by Mini-Mental State Examination, and the intakes of various foods were obtained by consecutive 3-day 24-hour dietary survey and weighing method. The intakes of various nutrients and total dietary energy were calculated based on the food composition table. Demographic and social information, lifestyle and health status of the respondents were obtained through questionnaire survey and physical measurements. In this study, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, iron, copper and selenium were selected as dependent variables. Nutrient-related dietary patterns were extracted by reduced rank regression method, and the relationship between dietary patterns and MCI was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression model. Results: Six dietary patterns were extracted in this study, and dietary pattern 1 with the highest explanatory degree was selected for subsequent analysis. Dietary pattern 1 was characterized by higher intakes of legume products, vegetables, fruits, nuts, pork, aquatic products and plant oil. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of MCI was lower in Q4 dietary score group than in Q1 dietary score group (OR=0.69, 95%CI: 0.49-0.98) in the 55-64 age group. In people with sleep duration of 8 hours per day, the risk of MCI was reduced in Q2, Q3 and Q4 dietary score groups compared with the Q1 dietary score group, with OR values of 0.68 (95%CI: 0.51-0.92), 0.67 (95%CI: 0.49-0.92) and 0.65 (95%CI: 0.45-0.92), respectively. Interaction analysis showed that the risk for MCI increased in those aged 65-74 years and ≥75 years compared with those aged 55-64 years in Q1 dietary score group. However, the risk for MCI decreased in both age groups as dietary pattern scores increased. Compared with those with sleep duration less or more than 8 hours per day in Q1 dietary score group, those with sleep duration of 8 hours per day in Q2 and Q3 dietary score groups had a reduced risk for MCI. Conclusion: Dietary patterns with higher intakes of legume products, vegetables, fruits, nuts, pork, aquatic products, and plant oil are negatively associated with MCI in people aged 55-64 years and those who slept 8 hours per day, and may reduce the risk of MCI with aging.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different meditation practices on eating behavior, changes in body weight, and mental health. METHODS: A virtual questionnaire was used to evaluate meditation practices and current and prepandemic weights. The questionnaire comprised specific and validated instruments to evaluate body image (silhouette scale), eating behavior (21-item three-factor eating questionnaire), current sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), and anxiety (Beck Anxiety Inventory). Initially, data from all the respondents were assessed (n = 764). Mindfulness was the most common type of meditation practice in most Brazilian regions. RESULTS: Lower scores in uncontrolled eating (meditation practitioners = 32.19 ± 19.72 and non-meditation practitioners = 35.17 ± 20.50; P = 0.038) and higher weight loss (meditation practitioners = -0.77 ± 8.44 and non-meditation practitioners = 1.29 ± 6.39; P = 0.013) were observed among those who practiced some type of meditation. To verify the influence of weight, we analyzed the data of individuals who had body mass index ≥25 kg/m²; overweight individuals presented lower uncontrolled eating scores when they practiced meditation. However, no statistical difference was observed between meditation practitioners and non-practitioners when only adequate weight individuals were evaluated. The practice also influenced the perception of body image among men and resulted in lower uncontrolled eating scores on the 21-item three-factor eating questionnaire and greater weight loss during the pandemic among women. Those practicing meditation for >13 mo had a lower final score on the anxiety assessment instrument compared with those practicing for <12 mo (P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate that the inclusion of meditation practice as part of the management of overweight may reduce dysfunctional eating behaviors and negative emotions, thereby contributing to weight loss, especially in the long term.

The family environment, which involves parent eating behaviors and feeding practices, influences child intake and eating behaviors. Specifically, parental emotional eating or emotional feeding practices may lead to emotional eating in the child. Mindful eating practices may decrease emotional eating behaviors. The purpose of this narrative review was to investigate the influence of parental mindful eating on emotional eating behaviors of their children or adolescents. A secondary purpose of this review was to determine whether a family-based or child mindful eating intervention improves child emotional eating directly or through the improvements of the parent and parental role modeling. EBSCOhost was used to simultaneously search 5 databases. The search was limited to full-text, peer-reviewed articles in the English language. Seven studies, 4 cross-sectional studies and 3 intervention studies, were identified. Across studies, measures of mindful and emotional eating differed. Among the cross-sectional studies, parental mindful eating/feeding or mindful parenting were either directly or indirectly related to decreased emotional eating in the child or adolescent. The effect was unclear among the intervention studies; however, these were pilot feasibility studies. Overall, parental mindful eating is associated with emotional eating behaviors among children and adolescents. Additional studies with a randomized controlled design are needed to evaluate parent mindful eating interventions on child and adolescent eating behaviors. Additionally, future trials need to use similar validated measures to ensure consistent quality data collection and allow for comparison of findings across studies.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is an increasingly popular diet involving short-term fasting and/or caloric restriction. While published research highlights physiological effects (e.g., weight, body fat) of IF, hardly any research has examined its associations with psychological factors. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between IF and binge eating, impulsivity, intuitive eating, and mindful eating. An undergraduate sample (N = 298) was recruited through a large southwestern university psychology subject pool. The sample was divided into three groups based on IF status: Current IF (n = 70), Past IF (n = 48), and No IF (n = 182). Current IF was negatively associated with lack of perseverance (e.g., "I generally like to see things through to the end"; p < .01) and intuitive eating (p < .05), varying by subscale, compared to the other groups. Notably, Past-IF, but not Current IF, participants were more likely to binge eat than individuals who reported never fasting (p = .03). These findings add credence to the rapidly developing area of research suggesting IF is associated with increased disordered eating behaviors. Notably, the findings from this study are limited due to the lack of diversity sample, such that generalizations can only be made toward White, middle-to-high income, college students. Future longitudinal studies are needed to test the directionality of these relationships.

Mindful eating (ME) has been linked to improvement in binge eating disorder, but this approach in obesity management has shown conflicting results. Our aim was to assess the effect of ME associated with moderate energy restriction (MER) on weight loss in women with obesity. Metabolic parameters, dietary assessment, eating behaviour, depression, anxiety and stress were also evaluated. A total of 138 women with obesity were randomly assigned to three intervention groups: ME associated with MER (ME + MER), MER and ME, and they were followed up monthly for 6 months. ME + MER joined seven monthly mindfulness-based intervention group sessions each lasting 90 min and received an individualised food plan with MER (deficit of 2092 kJ/d - 500 kcal/d). MER received an individualised food plan with MER (deficit of 2092 kJ/d - 500 kcal/d), and ME joined seven monthly mindfulness-based intervention group sessions each lasting 90 min. Seventy patients completed the intervention. Weight loss was significant, but no statistically significant difference was found between the groups. There was a greater reduction in uncontrolled eating in the ME group than in the MER group and a greater reduction in emotional eating in the ME group than in both the MER and the ME + MER groups. No statistically significant differences were found in the other variables evaluated between groups. The association between ME with energy restriction did not promote greater weight loss than ME or MER.

The prevalence of obesity among Chinese adolescents is rising rapidly, and theoretically informed, scalable weight management interventions are needed. We developed and evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effects of an mHealth nutrition education and mindful snacking intervention for weight loss and improved dietary practices among Chinese adolescents with overweight. We examined whether including implementation intention formation (using if-then plans) improved outcomes. With user consultation, we created a 3-week mindful eating intervention delivered as 10 videos to user smartphones. Participants (n = 55) were randomly assigned to mindful eating or mindful eating + planning. Forty-six (83.6%) participants (age = 16.35 ± 0.48 years; body mass index [BMI] = 25.79 ± 2.05 kg/m2 ) completed the intervention. Both groups exhibited significant pre- to post-intervention weight loss (M = 1.42 and 1.79 kg, respectively); decreases in snacking frequencies, emotional eating, external eating, and trait craving; and significant increases in mindful eating and eating self-efficacy. No significant intervention group differences were observed. User experience data (n = 16) indicated acceptability and meaningful behavior change. Findings suggest that a smartphone-delivered mindfulness-based intervention for Chinese adolescents living with overweight is feasible and efficacious.
