Pain has a negative impact on public health, reducing quality of life. Unfortunately, current treatments are not fully effective and have adverse effects. Therefore, there is a need to develop new analgesic compounds. Due to promising results regarding the antinociceptive effect of N-(3-(phenylselanyl)prop-2-in-1-yl)benzamide (SePB), this study aimed to evaluate the participation of the dopaminergic and noradrenergic systems in this effect in mice, as well as its toxicity. To this, the antagonists sulpiride (D2/D3 receptor antagonist, 5 mg/kg), SCH-23390 (D1 receptor antagonist, 0.05 mg/kg), prazosin (α1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, 0.15 mg/kg), yohimbine (α2-adrenergic receptors, 0.15 mg/kg) and propranolol (non-selective ß-adrenergic antagonist, 10 mg/kg) were administered intraperitoneally to mice 15 min before SePB (10 mg/kg, intragastrically), except for propranolol (20 min). After 26 min of SePB administration, the open field test was performed for 4 min to assess locomotor activity, followed by the tail immersion test to measure the nociceptive response. For the toxicity test, animals received a high dose of 300 mg/kg of SePB. SePB showed an increase in the latency for nociceptive response in the tail immersion test, and this effect was prevented by SCH-23390, yohimbine and propranolol, indicating the involvement of D1, α2 and ß-adrenergic receptors in the antinociceptive mechanism of the SePB effect. No changes were observed in the open field test, and the toxicity assessment suggested that SePB has low potential to induce toxicity. These findings contribute to understanding SePB's mechanism of action, with a focus on the development of new alternatives for pain treatment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Chronic liver injury, caused by various aetiologies, causes recurrent tissue damage, culminating in decreased liver regenerative ability and resulting in fibrosis followed by cirrhosis. In this study, the anti-fibrotic activity of Yohimbine hydrochloride (YHC) was investigated using various in vitro models and in vivo models. METHODS: To assess the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-fibrotic effects of YHC, lipopolysaccharide or TGF-ß induced differentiation or lipid-induced oxidative-stress models were employed using HLECs, HSC-LX2, and HepG2 cells. Further, thioacetamide (TAA) induced hepatic inflammation/fibrosis models were utilized to validate the YHC's anti-fibrotic activity in rats. RESULTS: Inflammation/differentiation experiments in HLECs and HSC-LX2 revealed that YHC treatment significantly (p < 0.001) mitigated the lipopolysaccharide or TGF-ß induced upregulation of inflammatory and fibrotic markers expression respectively. In addition, YHC dose-dependently reduced the TGF-ß induced migration and palmitic acid-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells. Further, TAA administration (5 weeks) in vivo rat model showed increased inflammatory marker levels/expression, oxidative stress, and pathological abnormalities. Additionally, TAA administration (9 weeks) elevated the fibrotic marker expression, collagen deposition in liver tissues, and shortened longevity in rats. Treatment with YHC dose-dependently mitigated the TAA-induced abnormalities in both inflammation and fibrosis models and improved the survival of the rats. Further mechanistic approaches revealed that TAA administration elevated the JNK, Wnt components and ß-catenin expression in hepatic stellate cells and animal tissues. Further treatment with YHC significantly modulated the JNK/Wnt/ß-catenin signaling. Moreover, the ß-catenin nuclear translocation results showed that ß-catenin levels were significantly elevated in the nuclear fraction of TAA control samples and reduced in YHC-treated samples. CONCLUSION: Yohimbine treatment significantly improved inflammation and fibrosis by inhibiting differentiation, oxidative stress, and collagen deposition by partly modulating the JNK/Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. These results might serve as a foundation for proposing yohimbine as a potential lead compound for liver fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Due to its unclear pathophysiology, the pharmacological treatment of fibromyalgia is a challenge for researchers. Studies using medicinal plants, such as those from the genus Lippia, complexed with cyclodextrins (CDs) have shown innovative results. OBJECTIVE: The present research intended to evaluate the effect of an inclusion complex containing ß-cyclodextrin (ßCD) inclusion complex with Lippia grata (LG) essential oil in a chronic musculoskeletal pain model, its central activity and its possible interaction with neurotransmitters involved in pain. METHODS: After acid saline-induced chronic muscle pain, male mice were evaluated for primary and secondary hyperalgesia and muscle strength. Moreover, an antagonist assay was performed to assess the possible involvement of the opioidergic, serotonergic and noradrenergic pathways. In addition, Fos protein in the spinal cord was assessed, and a docking study and antioxidant assays were performed. RESULTS: The treatment with LG-ßCD, especially in the dose of 24mg/kg, was able to significantly decrease (p<0.05) the paw withdrawal and muscle threshold. Furthermore, LG-ßCD was shown to affect the opioidergic and serotonergic pathways. There were no significant changes in muscle strength. Fos protein immunofluorescence showed a significant decrease in expression in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The main compounds of LG showed through the docking study interaction energies with the alpha-adrenergic and µOpioid receptors. In all antioxidant assays, LG exhibited stronger antioxidant activities than LG-ßCD. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that LG-ßCD could be considered as a valuable source for designing new drugs in the treatment of chronic pain, especially musculoskeletal pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common type of chronic inflammatory disease which is triggered by dysfunction in the immune system which in turn affects synovial joints. Current treatment of RA with NSAIDs and DMRDs is limited by their side effect. As a result, the interest in alternative, well tolerated anti-inflammatory remedies has re-emerged. Our aim was to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities underlying the anti-RA effect of Yohimbine hydrochloride (YCL) in collagen induced arthritis (CIA) in Wistar rats. The YCL was administered at doses of 5 and 10 mg kg-1 body weight once daily for 28 days. The effects of treatment in the rats were assessed by biochemical parameter (articular elastase, LPO, GSH, catalase, SOD), hematological parameter (ESR, WBC, C-reactive protein (CRP), immunohistochemical expression (COX2, TNF-α, and NF-κB), and histological changes in joints. YCL showed anti-RA efficacy as it significantly reduced articular elastase, LPO and catalase level and ameliorates histological changes. This is in addition to its antioxidant efficacy as YCL shown a significant increase in GSH and SOD level. Also, YCL showed effective anti-inflammatory activity as it significantly decreased the expression of COX-2, TNF-α, and NF-ĸB. The therapeutic effect of YCL against RA was also evident from lower arthritis scoring and reduced hematological parameter (ESR, WBC, and C-reactive protein level). The abilities to inhibit proinflammatory cytokines and modulation of antioxidant states that the protective effect of YCL on arthritis rats might be mediated via the modulation of the immune system. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work aimed to determine the chemical fingerprint of hydroethanolic extract of leaves of Caryocar coriaceum (HELCC) and the gastroprotective activity. The chemical fingerprint of HELCC was analyzed by HPLC-DAD, to quantify total phenols and flavonoids were carried out by Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and aluminum chloride assay, while in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by the DPPH method. The methods used to determine pharmacological activity were: gastroprotective screening test in classical models of induced acute and chronic gastric lesions and physical barrier test. Further assays were performed to demonstrate the involvement of NO, prostaglandins, ATP-dependent potassium channels, TRPV, noradrenergic α2 receptors, histamines, and opioids. The DPPH method demonstrated the antioxidant activity of the extract, in vitro, explained by the presence of polyphenols and flavonoids. Oral administration of the extract, previously dissolved in deionized water, at a dose of 100 mg/kg decreased the lesions induced by indomethacin, acidified ethanol, ethanol and acetic acid by 75.0, 72.8, 69.4 and 86.2% respectively. It was demonstrated that opioid receptors, α2-adrenergic receptors and primary afferent neurons sensitive to capsaicin were involved in the mechanism of gastric protection, in addition to the contribution of NO and prostaglandins. The results show that extract is a promising candidate for the treatment of gastric ulcers.

Infiltration of activated neutrophils into the vital organs contributes to the multiple organ dysfunctions in sepsis. In the present study, we investigated the effects of berberine in combination with yohimbine (BY) on neutrophil tissue infiltration and multiple organ damage during sepsis, and further elucidated the involved mechanisms. Sepsis was induced in mice by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). BY or CCR2 antagonist was administered 2h after CLP, and anti-IL-10 antibody (IL-10 Ab) or control IgG was injected intraperitoneally just before BY treatment. We found that IL-10 production was enhanced by BY therapy in septic mice. BY significantly attenuated neutrophil tissue infiltration and multiple organ injury in CLP-challenged mice, all of which were completely reversed by IL-10 Ab pretreatment. The levels of KC, MCP-1, MIP-1α and MIP-2 in the lung, liver and kidney were markedly increased 6h after CLP. BY reduced the tissue concentrations of these chemokines in septic mice, but IL-10 Ab pretreatment did not completely eliminate these inhibitory effects of BY. Particularly, dramatically increased CCR2 expression in circulating neutrophils of septic mice was reduced by BY and this effect was completely abolished by IL-10 Ab pretreatment. Furthermore, CCR2 antagonist also inhibited lung and renal injury and neutrophil infiltration in septic mice. Taken together, our data strongly suggest that BY therapy attenuates neutrophil tissue infiltration and multiple organ injury in septic mice, at least in part, via IL-10-mediated inhibition of CCR2 expression in circulating neutrophils.

In this study, we aimed to determine whether Sanggenon G, an active compound isolated from the root bark of Morus alba, exhibited enhanced anti-immobility activity with the addition of the α2-antagonist yohimbine in rats subjected to forced swim test (FST)-induced depression. Fluoxetine (a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) treatment in rats reduced the immobility time, and pretreatment with yohimbine significantly enhanced the antidepressant-like behavior of fluoxetine at 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg. Similarly, Sanggenon G significantly decreased the immobility time, reducing immobility by a maximum of 43.9 % when treated at a dose of 20 mg/kg. Furthermore, pretreatment with yohimbine significantly enhanced the antidepressant-like behavior of Sanggenon G at 5 and 10 mg/kg. Our findings suggest that the antidepressant-like effect of Sanggenon G could be facilitated by concomitant use of the α2-antagonist. Further studies are needed to evaluate the potential of Sanggenon G as an alternative therapeutic approach for the treatment of depression.

Diffuse noxious inhibitory controls (DNICs) utilize descending inhibitory controls through poorly understood brain stem pathways. The human counterpart, conditioned pain modulation, is reduced in patients with neuropathy aligned with animal data showing a loss of descending inhibitory noradrenaline controls together with a gain of 5-HT3 receptor-mediated facilitations after neuropathy. We investigated the pharmacological basis of DNIC and whether it can be restored after neuropathy. Deep dorsal horn neurons were activated by von Frey filaments applied to the hind paw, and DNIC was induced by a pinch applied to the ear in isoflurane-anaesthetized animals. Spinal nerve ligation was the model of neuropathy. Diffuse noxious inhibitory control was present in control rats but abolished after neuropathy. α2 adrenoceptor mechanisms underlie DNIC because the antagonists, yohimbine and atipamezole, markedly attenuated this descending inhibition. We restored DNIC in spinal nerve ligated animals by blocking 5-HT3 descending facilitations with the antagonist ondansetron or by enhancing norepinephrine modulation through the use of reboxetine (a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, NRI) or tapentadol (µ-opioid receptor agonist and NRI). Additionally, ondansetron enhanced DNIC in normal animals. Diffuse noxious inhibitory controls are reduced after peripheral nerve injury illustrating the central impact of neuropathy, leading to an imbalance in descending excitations and inhibitions. Underlying noradrenergic mechanisms explain the relationship between conditioned pain modulation and the use of tapentadol and duloxetine (a serotonin, NRI) in patients. We suggest that pharmacological strategies through manipulation of the monoamine system could be used to enhance DNIC in patients by blocking descending facilitations with ondansetron or enhancing norepinephrine inhibitions, so possibly reducing chronic pain.

Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation is a noninvasive method used in clinical Physiotherapy to control acute or chronic pain. Different theories have been proposed to explain the mechanism of the analgesic action of transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation, as the participation of central and peripheral neurotransmitters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the involvement of noradrenergic pathway and of the receptors alfa-2 and beta in the modulation of analgesia produced by transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation of high and low frequency in Wistar rats after chronic treatment with propranolol or yohimbine intraperitoneally. Animals weighing 200 to 300 g were divided into 9 groups (n=8), which were obtained nociceptive thresholds through the Tail Flick before and after application of TENS for comparing the change of pain. The administration of yohimbine or propranolol at a dose of 3 mg/kg was effective in antagonizing the analgesia induced by high (150 Hz) and low (10 Hz) frequency transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation according to ANOVA test followed by Duncan post hoc test (p<0.05). Thus, it is suggested the involvement of alpha-2 and beta noradrenergic receptors in the modulation of transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation-induced analgesia.


La estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea es un método no invasivo utilizado en la clínica de Fisioterapia para controlar el dolor agudo y crónico. Diversas teorías son propuestas para explanar el mecanismo de acción analgésico de la estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea, como la participación de neurotransmisores centrales y periféricos. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la participación de la vía noradrenérgica y de los receptores alfa-2 y beta en la modulación de analgesia inducida por la estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea con alta y baja frecuencia en ratos del tipo Wistar, después del tratamiento crónico con yohimbina o propranolol por la vía intraperitoneal. Animales que pesaban 200 y 300 g fueron divididos en nueve grupos (n=8), por los cuales fueron obtenidos los umbrales nociceptivos por medio del Tail Flick, antes y después de la aplicación de la estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea con el intuito de comparar la alteración del cuadro álgico. La administración de yohimbina o propranolol en el dosis de 3 mg/kg fue eficaz en resultar en una antagonización de analgesia inducida por la estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea con alta (150 Hz) y baja (10 Hz) frecuencia, de acuerdo al test de ANOVA seguido del test post-hoc de Duncan (p>0,05). Por lo tanto, se sugiere el envolvimiento de los receptores noradrenergicos alfa-2 y beta en la modulación de analgesia inducida por la estimulación eléctrica nerviosa transcutánea.


Estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea é um método não invasivo utilizado na clínica de Fisioterapia para controlar dores aguda ou crônica. Diferentes teorias são propostas para explicar o mecanismo de ação analgésica da estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea, como a participação de neurotransmissores centrais e periféricos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a participação da via noradrenérgica e dos receptores alfa-2 e beta na modulação da analgesia induzida pela estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea de alta e baixa frequência em ratos Wistar, após tratamento crônico com ioimbina ou propranolol por via intraperitoneal. Animais pesando entre 200 e 300 g foram divididos em 9 grupos (n=8), dos quais se obteve os limiares nociceptivos por meio do Tail Flick antes e após a aplicação da estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea para comparação de mudança do quadro álgico. A administração de ioimbina ou de propranolol na dose de 3 mg/kg foi efetiva em causar uma antagonização da analgesia induzida pela estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea de alta (150 Hz) e baixa frequência (10 Hz) segundo teste ANOVA seguido do teste post hoc Duncan (p<0,05). Dessa forma, sugere-se o envolvimento de receptores noradrenérgicos alfa-2 e beta na modulação da analgesia induzida pela estimulação elétrica nervosa transcutânea. .

AIM: To describe drugs used in sexual medicine. METHOD: Pubmed search for efficacy, mode of action and side effects for each molecule. Additional data were searched from the French regulatory agencies web sites (HAS and ANSM). RESULTS: 5PDIs and intracavernous injection of alprostadil are first- and second-line therapies of erectile dysfunction. Dapoxetine is the first specific and approved treatment of premature ejaculation. Androgene supplementation improves sexual desire among patient with hypogonadism as much as initial serum testosterone levels are low. Female sexual dysfunctions pharmacology is to date less developed, although candidate drugs reach phase III clinical studies. CONCLUSION: Pharmacology is one but not the only therapeutic avenue in sexual medicine. Despite real breakthrough such as 5PDIs for erectile dysfunction, incomplete knowledge and understanding of physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology of human sexual function reduces its development particularly for women.

Prolonged exposure (PE) therapy is considered a gold standard protocol for the treatment of PTSD, and it is associated with large treatment effect sizes in combat veteran samples. However, considering high rates of PTSD in the present veteran population, ongoing research work is important toward improving treatment efficiency by decreasing time to symptom amelioration and increasing the amount of symptom amelioration. The proposed research aims to enhance exposure therapy outcomes for veterans with PTSD via combination treatment with PE and yohimbine hydrochloride (HCL), an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor antagonist. The proposed investigation entails a randomized, placebo-controlled trial investigating the effect of a single administration of yohimbine HCL (paired with the first session of imaginal exposure) on outcome of PE in 40 veterans with PTSD. An additional goal is to establish a pragmatic method of tracking psychophysiological measures over the course of therapy for incorporation into future clinical psychotherapy trials. Thus, in addition to traditional self- and clinician-reported psychological outcomes, heart rate and skin conductance reactivity will be measured during a standard trauma-specific imagery task before, during, and after PE treatment. We will further investigate whether changes in psychophysiological measures predict changes in patient- and clinician-reported outcome measures.

INTRODUCTION: As yet, a summary of research evidence concerning the efficacy of psychological treatment in male sexual dysfunction is lacking. AIM: Our systematic review gives an overview of the efficacy of psychosocial interventions in all male sexual dysfunctions. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Main outcome measures included, for example, psychometrically validated scales, interviews, and clinical assessment by an independent rater. The efficacy of psychosocial interventions was measured, for example, by the frequency of and satisfaction with sexual activity and sexual functioning. METHODS: The systematic literature search included electronic database search, handsearch, contact with experts, and an ancestry approach. Studies were included if the man was given a formal diagnosis of a sexual dysfunction (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems [ICD10/-9]; Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [DSM-IV/-III-R]) and when the intervention was psychosocial or psychotherapeutic. The control group included either another treatment or a waiting-list control group. The report of relevant outcomes was necessary for inclusion as well as the design of the study (randomized controlled trials [RCTs] and controlled clinical trials [CCTs]). The assessment of methodological quality comprised aspects of randomization, blinding, incomplete outcome data, selective reporting, and allegiance. RESULTS: We identified 19 RCTs and one CCT that investigated the efficacy in male sexual dysfunction and two further studies that examined male and female sexual dysfunction together. Twelve out of 20 trials in men used either a concept derived from Masters and Johnson or a cognitive-behavioral treatment program. Overall, psychosocial interventions improved sexual functioning. While one study found that psychotherapy is superior to sildenafil, another study found the opposite. In men with premature ejaculation, behavioral techniques proved to be effective. A shortcoming was the rather low methodological quality of included studies. CONCLUSIONS: Most of the compared interventions proved to be similarly effective. Possibly, there are underlying constructs throughout all therapies that have an effect on the outcome.

AIM: To investigate the mechanisms responsible for the protective action of berberine (Ber) against gut damage in endotoxemic mice. METHODS: Male BALB/c mice were administered intragastrically with distilled water (0.1 mL/10 g), Ber (50 mg/kg) alone, yohimbine (2 mg/kg) alone, or Ber (50 mg/kg) in combination with yohimbine (2 mg/kg) for 3 d. On the third day, lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 18 mg/kg) or normal saline was intraperitoneally injected one hour after the intragastric administration. Following the treatment, intestinal injury in the ileum was histopathologically accessed; enterocyte apoptosis was examined using TUNEL method; Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) mRNA expression was measured using RT-PCR assay; inhibitor protein-κBα (I-κBα) phosphorylation and myeloperoxidase content were examined using Western blloting. The macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) production was measured using ELISA assay. RESULTS: Mice challenged with LPS caused extensive ileum injury, including a significantly increased injury score, decreased intestinal villus height, reduced gut mucosal weight and increased intestinal permeability. Furthermore, LPS significantly induced enterocyte apoptosis, increased TLR4 mRNA expression, I-κBα phosphorylation, MIP-2 production and myeloperoxidase content in the ileum. Pretreatment with Ber significantly alleviated all the alterations in the ileum in the endotoxemic mice. Pretreatment with the α2-adrenoceptor antagonist yohimbine did not block the protective action of Ber against LPS-induced intestinal injury. In addition, treatment with yohimbine alone did not prevent LPS-induced intestinal injury. CONCLUSION: Pretreatment with Ber provides significant protection against LPS-induced intestinal injury in mice, via reducing enterocyte apoptosis, inhibiting the TLR4-nuclear factor κB-MIP-2 pathway and decreasing neutrophil infiltration that are independent of α2-adrenoceptors.

Older patients with sexual dysfunction (SD) and/or erectile dysfunction (ED) often use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The aim of this overview of systematic reviews is to critically evaluate the evidence for or against the effectiveness of CAM. Six electronic databases were searched to identify all relevant systematic reviews (SRs). Their methodological quality was assessed independently by two reviewers using the Oxman score. Four SRs met our inclusion criteria. They evaluated: acupuncture, ginseng, maca and yohimbine. The methodological quality of all of the SRs was good. However, the primary studies were often associated with considerable risk of bias. Cautiously positive conclusions were drawn for yohimbine and ginseng as treatment options for ED. For acupuncture and maca the evidence was insufficient for ED and SD respectively. It is concluded that there is some encouraging evidence but more and better studies are required to establish the value of CAM for SD and ED.

Many treatments are still under investigation, and at this time, there are no FDA-approved medications available for the treatment of FSAD. Treatment options include "off-label" medications, vaginal estrogen, compounded preparations, and over-the-counter products.

A simple and sensitive method was developed for determination of illegal adulterants (yohimbine, sildenafil, vardenafil and tadalafil) in dietary supplements by HPLC-MS/MS. The separation was achieved on a C(18) column with the mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 0.1% acetic acid aqueous solution with a gradient elution at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The analytes were quantified and identified by two characteristic transitions using the multiple-reaction monitoring mode. The recoveries of the analytes ranged from 77.5 to 109.3% with the RSD less than 8.1% (n=6). The method has been successfully applied to screen illegal adulterations of natural dietary supplements.

INTRODUCTION: The search for a remedy or a prescription that can enhance sexual function and/or treat male erectile dysfunction has been an obsession throughout known history. Whether it was an Eastern civilization or a Western one, religious or atheist, man's aspiration for a better or best "manhood" has been a history-time goal. AIM: This review will discuss the current research done on the most popular natural aphrodisiacs and examine the weight of evidence to support or discourage the use of any of these substances to enhance sexual desire and/or function. METHODS: Review of the current evidence on the use of natural substances as aphrodisiacs. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Efficacy of natural aphrodisiacs in enhancing sexual function in men and women. RESULTS: There is little evidence from literature to recommend the usage of natural aphrodisiacs for the enhancement of sexual desire and/or performance. Data on yohimbine's efficacy does not support the wide use of the drug, which has only mild effects in the treatment of psychogenic ED. Although there's a positive trend towards recommending ginseng as an effective aphrodisiac, however, more in depth studies involving large number of subjects and its mechanism of action are needed before definite conclusions could be reached. Data on the use of natural aphrodisiacs in women is limited. CONCLUSIONS: The current body of objective evidence does not support the use of any natural aphrodisiac as an effective treatment for male or female sexual dysfunctions. Potent men and men with ED will continue the search for natural aphrodisiacs despite the current disappointing data on their effectiveness. Care should be taken regarding the fraud addition of sildenafil analogues to natural aphrodisiacs.

Twelve healthy two-month-old Landrace x Yorkshire pigs of both sexes were randomly assigned to receive either tiletamine and xylazine (zx) or zolazepam and xylazine followed 20 minutes later by yohimbine (zxy). The pigs' scores for immobilisation and analgesia, and their rectal temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, pO(2), pCO(2), alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, glucose and total plasma proteins were determined before and five, 25, 45, 65 and 85 minutes after the administration of the tiletamine/zolazepam and xylazine. The mean total scores for immobilisation and analgesia of the zxy pigs were significantly lower than those of the zx pigs after 85 minutes. The mean rectal temperatures of the zxy pigs were significantly lower than those of zx pigs after 25, 45 and 65 minutes. The mean respiratory rates of the zx pigs were significantly lower than those of zxy pigs after five minutes. The mean pCO(2) of the zxy pigs were significantly lower than those of zx pigs five minutes after the administration of yohimbine. The mean glucose concentration of the zxy pigs were significantly lower than those of zx pigs after 65 and 85 minutes. The mean concentration total protein of the zxy pigs were significantly lower than those of zx pigs throughout the period of anaesthesia. Both groups became laterally recumbent within three minutes. When recovering from anaesthesia, the pigs treated with yohimbine took significantly less time to achieve sternal recumbency (mean [sd] 52.2 [8.9] v 76.2 [20.6] minutes) and less time to be able to stand (mean [sd] 77.0 [9.8] v 98.7 [15.8] minutes), and walk (mean [sd] 81.3 [11.3] v 110.8 [18.6] minutes).

OBJECTIVE: To find a good way to diagnose VD, value the effect of Yishen Yangnao capsule on VD and try to find some rules of changes in Chinese medicine syndromes. METHOD: Patients were randomly divided into treating group and western medicine comparison group. It's the phase III clinical research of Rishen Yangnao capsule curing VD, judging the validity and security of it, using dukexi slice as comparison drug. Some of the patients did the examination of P300. RESULT: The total validity of Yishen Yangnao capsule is 56.3% (contract team is 60.0%). The improve rate of ADL is 0.1069% (contract team is 0.1134%). The scores of Chinese medicine syndrome descend. CONCLUSION: Yishen Yangnao capsule has the same effect as dukexi slice in curing VD at the side of intelligence situation and life ability.

Dietary supplements and nutraceuticals are commonly used by men with erectile dysfunction, decreased libido, BPH, and concerns about developing prostate cancer. Many preparations do not contain the advertised dosages of the active ingredient or are contaminated. Dietary supplements and nutraceuticals, particularly those addressing erectile dysfunction and libido, need to undergo rigorous testing before they can be wholeheartedly recommended.
