RESUMO
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Communication breakdown is viewed as a significant contributor to preventable patient harm. Interprofessional rounding (IPR) is one method of communication supporting the evidenced-based care delivery. The purpose of this paper is to explore the benefits of IPR for patients, clinicians, and the healthcare system. REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Interprofessional rounding supports collaboration, discussion, and timely intervention to prevent miscommunication leading to adverse patient events. Adherence to evidence-based care suggests a positive impact on patient, process, and financial outcomes. Statistically significant IPR-related improvements are seen in reducing mortality, lengths of stay, medication errors, and hospitalization costs as well as improved staff and patient satisfaction. EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGIES: One IPR-related gap in the literature is integrative care delivery, a strategy that provides a unified plan to meet the complex needs of patients and produce optimal outcomes. Activation and standardization with active participation in IPR support a collaborative integration of care. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS: Embracing IPR and advocating for collaboration across the care continuum is a crucial process in preventing adverse events. Integrated care delivery through IPR provides a unified plan to meet the complex needs of patients, prevent harm, and produce best possible outcomes.

This article reports the success, or otherwise, of strategies implemented to sustain nursing grand rounds in a large regional health service in North Queensland, Australia. Nursing grand rounds had been introduced in late 2010 to increase nurses' engagement with research and evidence-based practice. Although the format, topics, and purpose of grand rounds have changed, attendees continue to positively evaluate each presentation. However, after 5 years, the initiative has expanded and somewhat modified its focus. This article describes these changes and proposes options for the future progression of this professional development activity. J Contin Educ Nurs. 2016;47(7):316-320.

Since 2009, the Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves (HUVN) has been conducting clinical sessions on patient care, with the objective of achieving a deep understanding about the use of nursing methodology, and creating the habit of continuous reflection about the quality of careapplied. This paper intends to make public the experience developed during the years 2011-2012 in terms of clinical sessions on patient care. During the period studied, 35 clinical sessions on patient care have been conducted, distributed among the healthcare centres of the hospital complex; 19 of these have been clinical cases, 12 have been patient care updates, three reviews of clinical practice guidelines, and one review of integrated healthcare system. The average attendance to these sessions was of 16 professionals per session. The topics covered included specific health situations of interest for patient care units, investigation into differential diagnoses, and the incorporation of scientific evidence. As an improvement, it has been suggested to incorporate criteria forthe assessment of the nursing process, and of the structure of clinical sessions on patient care

The expected increase in cancer incidence emphasizes the need for specific training in this area, including either family physician or specialized oncologists. In France, the fourth to sixth years of medical teaching include both theoretical classes at the university and daily actual practice at the hospital. Thus, clinical rotations are thought to play a major role in the training of medical students and also largely participate to the choice of the student of his/her final specialty. Pedagogic quality of these rotations is dependent on multiple parameters, including a rigorous planification of the expected learning. Here, we reported a systemic planification of learning activities for medical students during an oncology rotation at the Paoli-Calmettes Institute in Marseille, France, a regional comprehensive cancer center. This planification includes an evaluation of learning requirements, definition of learning objectives, selection of learning methods and choice of methods of assessment of the students' achievement of these objectives as well as the learning activity itself.

There are many different roles in which acute care nurse practitioners can function. At our institution, the trauma nurse practitioners work in partnership with the trauma attendings to lead the plan of care. The nurse practitioners' holistic approach, emphasis on communication, attention to detail, flexibility and availability has had a substantial impact on patient outcomes as well as staff satisfaction. In this article, we provide an overview of our unique role and the impact on quality of care.

Incorporating evidence-based practice into the hospital setting has been a challenge but is needed to deliver quality healthcare. Interdisciplinary morbidity and mortality conferences are used to discuss perinatal and neonatal care issues with high-risk and low-frequency cases, such as fetal demise, maternal death, or identified areas for improvement. By involving an interdisciplinary team to review the patient's case, a more holistic perspective of the patient's care will be achieved. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how nurses can be an essential part of the interdisciplinary morbidity and mortality conferences and how to infuse evidence-based practice into the conference. A perinatal morbidity and mortality conference will be described to illustrate how one maternal-neonatal department brought medicine and nursing together to review care.
