RESUMEN

This study aims to develop and validate a job satisfaction scale for human resources for health (HRH) who are employed by the Ministry of Health. The scale was developed through a comprehensive literature review, and its validity and reliability were assessed using several psychometric properties, including expert evaluation, a pilot survey, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A large sample psychometric evaluation was made by all kinds of HRH staff (n = 2122), and the final version of the job satisfaction scale included 25 items. The EFA revealed seven factors with modest internal consistency ranging from 0.68 to 0.85. The goodness of fit of the model was found to be satisfactory, with root mean square error approximation (RMSEA) = 0.05, chi-square/df = 6.4, and both Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.92 and CFI = 0.93 being higher than 0.9. The standardized root mean square residual had a value of 0.035. This instrument proved to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring job satisfaction in health institutions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Human resources for health (HRH) play a pivotal role in effective health system operation, yet various impediments challenge sustainable development. This scoping review aimed to explore these challenges and potential solutions in aligning the health workforce to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Moroccan population. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review searching PubMed, Science Direct, Cairn and Google Scholar for relevant articles published between 2014 and 2023. Additionally, non-peer-reviewed literature sourced from Ministry of Health consultations and allied websites was included. RESULTS: Among the nineteen studies meeting our inclusion criteria, the majority were cross-sectional and predominantly focused on challenges faced by nurses. While some papers delineated multiple HRH challenges (5/19), the rest addressed specific challenges. The identified challenges span organizational and personal levels. Organizationally, the focus was on training, lifelong learning, continuing education, health coverage and shortages, and job satisfaction. At a personal level, HRH in the public health sector encountered challenges such as burnout, stress, and broader occupational health concerns. CONCLUSIONS: The reviewed publications underscored a spectrum of challenges necessitating robust policy interventions. Despite promising developments in the Moroccan healthcare system, addressing the unequal urban-rural HRH distribution, augmenting funding, and enhancing HRH quality of life stand as pivotal imperatives.

RESUMEN

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Morocco after cardiovascular diseases. Changes associated with societal and economic development, longevity of the population, and lifestyle changes contribute to increasing the burden of cancer in the Morocco. Despite the advances and achievements in cancer care in Morocco, more efforts are needed to better treat, control, and prevent cancer in Morocco. This manuscript illustrates the professional cancer education activities in Morocco over the past 10 years. The manuscript also illustrates the current cancer education and the needed future directions in the field in this middle-income country that is undergoing significant epidemiologic and lifestyle transitions and projections for increasing cancer incidence and mortality in the next few decades.

RESUMEN

AIM: To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of Moroccan nursing students towards COVID-19. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. METHOD: Data were collected using an online questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics and 24 items about COVID-19-related knowledge, attitudes and practices. RESULTS: A total of 1,216 nursing students participated in this study. About 82% of the participants reported that the COVID-19 virus spreads via respiratory droplets of infected individuals. The most clinical symptoms of COVID-19 correctly identified by participants were fever (97.6%), dry cough (92.4%), dyspnoea (82%) and fatigue (74.9%). More than 56.6% of the participants were afraid of being affected by COVID-19. Almost all participants reported that they avoid crowded places frequently. About 93.4% of the participants declared frequently wearing face mask when leaving home, and 85.5% maintained social distancing frequently. However, only 47.4% reported that they frequently washed their hands. About 51% stated that coronavirus outbreak has considerably changed their daily routines.
