Physical inactivity and sedentary behavior pose significant health concerns, particularly among young adults like college students. However, little research exists on the attitudes towards physical activity among Saudi Arabian healthcare students. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of physical activity and determine the reason for being physically inactive among students and interns across all programs in the College of Applied Medical Sciences (CAMS) at King Saud University (KSU), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted between March and May 2023. CAMS students aged 18 and above, fluent in Arabic or English, and willing to participate were included. The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) was used to measure physical activity. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Out of 433 respondents, 377 met the inclusion criteria (response rate: 89.3%). Physical activity prevalence was 54.60%, with walking being the most common activity (42.70%). Lack of time was the primary reason for inactivity (51.40%). On average, students engaged in 1.5 hours/day of vigorous-intensity activities and 1.3 hours/day of vigorous-intensity sports and fitness activities at work. Sedentary behavior, characterized by continuous sitting, averaged 5.37 hours per day. Approximately half of CAMS students are physically active, while 20% rely solely on short walks due to time constraints, limited activity hours, or sedentary habits. A lack of time was cited as the primary reason for inactivity by most students. Future research should focus on strategies to enhance physical activity among healthcare students. In addition, academicians and policymakers should propose time-efficient initiatives that accommodate the demanding and busy schedules of healthcare students.

Background Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and hip circumference (HC) determine obesity. Several studies have examined the association between obesity and many diseases, including heart disease, and found it to be a substantial risk factor. However, the relationship between heart disease and obesity has not been investigated. This study investigated the relationship between heart disease and obesity indicators among adults encompassing sociodemographic and lifestyle factors. Methodology This cross-sectional study included data from 3,574 individuals who participated in the 2011-2014 National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States refresher. The presence or absence of heart conditions such as irregular heartbeat, heart murmur, heart attack, and heart failure was determined using self-reported questionnaires. The association between heart disease and obesity indicators such as BMI, WC, HC, and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) was investigated using linear regression. Results After controlling for all factors, the findings demonstrated a significant relationship between heart disease and BMI, WC, and HC high scores of 1.12 kg/m2, 0.63 inches, and 0.81 inches, respectively. A higher score in all obesity indicators was linked to being 65 years or older; male gender (for HC); having a school/college level of education; being unmarried, divorced, or widowed; having a history of smoking; and avoiding alcohol use. Conclusions Heart disease and sociodemographic and lifestyle factors are substantially associated with a high score in all obesity indicators. The findings of this study are important because they can assist healthcare providers in implementing different therapies to prevent high BMI, WC, HC, and WHR.

BACKGROUND: Oncoplastic Breast surgeries (OBS) in breast cancer have evolved to preserve the cancerous breast rather than its amputation to improve postoperative cosmetic results. The lack of evidence to support the oncological safety and benefits of OBS is questionable. In this study, we evaluate various aspects of oncoplastic surgeries with a focused monitoring of aesthetic results and oncological safety. METHODS: This was a multi-center observational study focused on the statistics of data collected from cases who underwent oncoplastic surgeries from the cohort of breast cancer candidates at Mansoura University Hospitals/Egypt and King Faisal Medical Complex/KSA from January 2015 to June 2018. All data were analyzed carefully using SPSS v-26. RESULTS: Eighty cases who underwent different oncoplastic surgeries were included and reviewed for the aesthetic outcome and oncological safety. The recurrence rate was found to be 2.5%. The breast impact treatment scale assessment method was used to analyze the aesthetic outcomes, and average scores were accepted in 90% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: The oncoplastic breast surgeries are feasible and they had a high rate of oncological safety with the maintenance of good aesthetic outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Drugs of abuse represent a growing public health crisis. Accumulating evidence indicates that gabapentin (GBP), a prescription drug, is prone to misuse, abuse, withdrawal, and dependence. Commonly, drugs of abuse modulate the dopaminergic system to induce addiction. In this study, we used the conditioned place preference (CPP) model to investigate the involvement of the dopamine 1 (D1) receptor on the reward and reinforcement behavior of GBP. Under a CPP paradigm, male BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally injected either saline or 100, 200, or 300 mg/kg of GBP and confined to the injection-paired chamber for 30 min. In the pre-conditioning phase, mice were conditioned for 3 days, and baseline data were collected. In the conditioning phase, mice were given once-daily alternating injections of either GBP or saline for 8 days and subsequently assessed in a post-conditioning test. Injections of 300 mg/kg of GBP significantly increased the time spent in the drug-paired chamber compared to the saline-paired chamber. However, lower doses of GBP (100 and 200 mg/kg) showed no effect. Pre-treatment with SKF-83566, a D1 receptor antagonist, attenuated GBP-induced CPP. Thus, for the first time, we show that GBP can induce CPP through a dopaminergic-dependent mechanism.

The exposure of the population to natural gamma radiation in air and to indoor radon gas was investigated in Makkah, AlBaha, Assir, Jazan and Najran regions in the western and southwestern of Saudi Arabia. The survey was performed by using LiF:Mg,Cu,P thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) for indoor and outdoor absorbed dose rates in air measurements in 885 locations, and a passive integrating ionizing system, equipped with an E-Perm Electret ion chamber, for radon concentration measurements in a total of 1119 dwellings. The ambient indoor rates vary from 54 to 191 nSv h-1, while it is in the range of 42-112 nSv h-1 for the outdoor. The indoor and outdoor rates of the directional dose equivalent ranged from 56 to 185 nSv h-1 and from 43 to 135 nSv h-1, respectively. Makkah region showed the highest mean indoor ambient and directional rates, whereas Assir region showed the highest mean outdoor rates. The indoor and outdoor gamma dose rates were significantly correlated. On the other hand, the indoor radon concentrations ranged from 11 to 137 Bq m-3 with an overall mean of 32 Bq m-3 for all investigated houses. The overall annual mean effective dose rate from radon and its decay progenies was estimated to be 0.76 mSv y-1, which yields an excess lifetime cancer risk of around 2.3 × 10-3.
