RESUMEN

AIMS: A bone-invasive pituitary adenoma exhibits aggressive behavior, leading to a worse prognosis. We have found that TNF-α promotes bone invasion by facilitating the differentiation of osteoclasts, however, before bone-invasive pituitary adenoma invades bone tissue, it needs to penetrate the dura mater, and this mechanism is not yet clear. METHODS: We performed transcriptome microarrays on specimens of bone-invasive pituitary adenomas (BIPAs) and noninvasive pituitary adenomas (NIPAs) and conducted differential expressed gene analysis and enrichment analysis. We altered the expression of TNF-α through plasmids, then validated the effects of TNF-α on GH3 cells and verified the efficacy of the TNF-α inhibitor SPD304. Finally, the effects of TNF-α were validated in in vivo experiments. RESULTS: Pathway act work showed that the MAPK pathway was significantly implicated in the pathway network. The expression of TNF-α, MMP9, and p-p38 is higher in BIPAs than in NIPAs. Overexpression of TNF-α elevated the expression of MAPK pathway proteins and MMP9 in GH3 cells, as well as promoted proliferation, migration, and invasion of GH3 cells. Flow cytometry indicated that TNF-α overexpression increased the G2 phase ratio in GH3 cells and inhibited apoptosis. The expression of MMP9 was reduced after blocking the P38 MAPK pathway; overexpression of MMP9 promoted invasion of GH3 cells. In vivo experiments confirm that the TNF-α overexpression group has larger tumor volumes. SPD304 was able to suppress the effects caused by TNF-α overexpression. CONCLUSION: Bone-invasive pituitary adenoma secretes higher levels of TNF-α, which then acts on itself in an autocrine manner, activating the MAPK pathway and promoting the expression of MMP9, thereby accelerating the membrane invasion process. SPD304 significantly inhibits the effect of TNF-α and may be applied in the clinical treatment of bone-invasive pituitary adenoma.

Objective: To investigate the clinical and pathological factors associated with preoperative hypothalamus invasion and postoperative outcomes of adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas (ACPs) after the expanded endonasal approach (EEA) resection. Methods: Ninety-three specimens of ACPs, consisting of 71 primary and 22 recurrent tumors, were investigated for the expression of TGF-ß1, SMAD2, SMAD3, and ß-catenin by immunohistochemistry staining. The clinical information of relevant patients, including the extent of resection, hypothalamus invasion, endocrinopathy, complications, and prognosis, was reviewed. The relationships between the expression of these immunopathological markers and clinical factors were analyzed. Results: Endocrinological dysfunctions were more common in recurrent patients and primary patients with hypothalamus invasion in the comparisons. For recurrent patients, the rate of gross total resection (GTR) was significantly lower than for primary patients (63.6% vs. 90.1%, P = 0.007). According to radiological and intraoperative findings, invasive ACPs (IACPs) included 48 (67.6%) cases in primary tumors. The expression of TGF-ß1 and ß-catenin was significantly higher in recurrent tumors (P = 0.021 and P = 0.018, respectively) and IACPs (P = 0.008 and P = 0.004, respectively). The expression level of TGF-ß1 was associated with hypothalamus involvement (Puget grade, P = 0.05; Vile grade, P = 0.002), postoperative endocrinopathy (P = 0.01), and pituitary stalk preservation (P = 0.008) in primary patients. In addition, the extent of resection, treatment history, hypothalamic invasion, and level of TGF-ß1 expression had significant influences on tumor recurrence/progression after surgery separately. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated the potential role of TGF-ß1 in the regulation of hypothalamus invasion in ACPs and the prediction of prognosis after EEA surgery. The TGF-ß signaling pathway may represent a crucial mechanism in the aggressive behavior and progression of ACPs.

Chordomas are very rare malignant bone tumors. Following surgery, their effects on neurological, physical, psychological, social, and emotional functioning are substantial and can have a major impact on a patients' quality of life (QOL). In this survey, we aimed to characterize the postoperation health-related QOL and emotional problem in patients with chordoma using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD). The cohort included 100 patients who underwent resection surgery between 2014 and 2020. Being single or divorced, living in a rural area, receiving a diagnosis of sacrococcygeal chordoma, Karnofsky performance status (KPS) ≤ 70, and weight loss were associated with increased likelihood of depression (p < 0.05). Patients who were single or divorced, with KPS ≤ 70, and experiencing weight loss had a higher likelihood of a worse QOL (p < 0.05). The uni- and multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that the KPS level (p = 0.000) and postoperative radiation therapy (p = 0.009) were related to depression; marital status (p = 0.029), KPS level (p = 0.006), and tumor location (p = 0.033) were related to worse QOL. Certain characteristics placed patients with chordoma at increased risk of emotional problems, which are associated with a lowered QOL and a higher symptom burden. Further knowledge regarding emotional problems is key to improving the QOL for patients with chordoma.

Total 158 gonadotropin-type pituitary adenoma tissue specimens were collected and the expression of ESR1 in gonadotropin-type pituitary adenoma and its association with the overall survival of patients were analyzed. Transcriptome-sequencing data containing 79 cases of gonadotropin-type pituitary adenoma was used to search for all ESR1-related genes. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis was performed to identify the altering pathway and targeting genes. The in vitro and in vivo pituitary models were used to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of estrogen receptor (ER) inhibitors AZD9496 and fulvestrant. The mechanism of AZD9496 and fulvestrant in suppressing pituitary adenoma were also investigated. Low-level ESR1 had longer progression-free survival (PFS) in pituitary adenoma patients. ErbB signaling pathway was discovered as the main enriched pathway. Furthermore, the STAT5B gene was identified as a key ESR-1-related gene. The expression of STAT5B was significantly positively correlated with ESR1 expression in the pituitary adenoma. AZD9496, a novel ER inhibitor, exhibited a potent inhibitory effect on the growth of in vitro and in vivo pituitary adenoma cells, and its efficacy is comparable to the classic ER inhibitor, fulvestrant. Mechanically, the AZD9496 and fulvestrant significantly blocked JAK2/STAT5B pathway in GT1-1 cells and xenograft mice. Our results provide substantial evidence for the subsequent clinical use of AZD9496 in the treatment of patients with pituitary adenoma.

PURPOSE: Chordoma is a rare bone tumor with a high recurrence rate and limited treatment options. The aim of this study was to identify molecular subtypes of chordoma that may improve clinical management. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We conducted RNA sequencing in 48 tumors from patients with Chinese skull-base chordoma and identified two major molecular subtypes. We then replicated the classification using a NanoString panel in 48 patients with chordoma from North America. RESULTS: Tumors in one subtype were more likely to have somatic mutations and reduced expression in chromatin remodeling genes, such as PBRM1 and SETD2, whereas the other subtype was characterized by the upregulation of genes in epithelial-mesenchymal transition and Sonic Hedgehog pathways. IHC staining of top differentially expressed genes between the two subtypes in 312 patients with Chinese chordoma with long-term follow-up data showed that the expression of some markers such as PTCH1 was significantly associated with survival outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings may improve the understanding of subtype-specific tumorigenesis of chordoma and inform clinical prognostication and targeted options.

Background: The systemic inflammation score (SIS), based on preoperative lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR) and albumin (ALB), was recently developed and is demonstrated to be a novel prognostic indicator in several cancers. However, data discussing the utility of SIS in chordoma are lacking. We aimed to investigate the distribution and the prognostic role of SIS in primary skull base chordoma patients undergoing surgery. Material and methods: Preoperative SIS was retrospectively collected from 183 skull base chordoma patients between 2008 and 2014 in a single center. Its associations with clinical features and overall survival (OS) were further analyzed. The SIS-based nomogram was developed and evaluated by the concordance index (C-index), time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: The numbers of patients in the SIS 2, 1, and 0 group were 29 (15.8%), 60 (32.8%), 94 (51.4%), respectively. High SIS was associated with older age (p = 0.008), brainstem involvement of tumors (p = 0.039), and adverse OS (p < 0.001). Importantly, multivariate Cox analysis showed that high SIS independently predicts adverse OS. Furthermore, the nomogram based on SIS and clinical variables showed eligible performance for OS prediction in both training and validation cohorts. Conclusions: The SIS is a promising, simple prognostic biomarker, and the SIS-based nomogram serves as a potential risk stratification tool for outcome in skull base chordoma patients.

OBJECTIVE: This article aims to introduce an endoscopic-exoscopic technique for the resection of epidermoid cysts. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the intracranial epidermoid cysts patients who received whole-course combined endoscopic and exoscopic resection between 2017 and 2020 at our institution, to explore the benefit of combined endoscopic and exoscopic resection of intracranial epidermoid cysts, and evaluated the clinical utility of the endoscopic-exoscopic technique. RESULTS: A total of 17 patients were enrolled in the study. Of all patients, 6 patients (35.3%) underwent total resection, 10 patients (58.8%) underwent subtotal resection, and 1 patient (5.9%) underwent partial resection. Postoperative surgical complications were seen in 3 patients (17.6%), including intracranial infection in 2 patients (11.8%), and a delayed postoperative hematoma was observed in the seventh day after operation for 1 patient (5.9%), who was treated in a conservative manner and recovered smoothly from the hemorrhage. The median follow-up time was 33.3 months (range: 14.5-54.5 months). During the follow-up period, there was no recurrence of the tumors that received total resection. Two patients developed residual tumor regrowth but did not show any symptoms, therefore no further surgery was required. CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic-exoscopic technique is safe and efficient in the resection of intracranial epidermoid cysts with panoramic views and superior maneuverability. With further development and accumulation of practical experiences, the endoscopic-exoscopic technique can also be applied in the resection of other intracranial tumors.

Objective: This study aimed to study the role of PALB2 on the prognosis of skull base chordoma patients and the proliferation, migration, and invasion of chordoma cells. Methods: 187 patients with primary skull base chordoma were involved in the study. Immunohistochemical analysis was used to measure the PALB2 protein expression. Kaplan-Meier analysis, univariate and multivariate Cox analysis were used to evaluate the impact of PALB2 on patient prognosis. A nomogram was established for predicting the progression free survival of chordoma patients. Cell counting kit-8, colony formation, transwell migration, and invasion assays were used to assess the proliferation, migration, and invasion of chordoma cells with PALB2 knockdown. TIMER 2.0 was used to explore the expression and prognostic role of PALB2 in cancers. Results: High PALB2 expression indicated an adverse prognosis in chordoma. A nomogram involved PALB2, degree of resection, pathology, and Al-mefty classification could accurately predict the progression free survival of chordoma patients. The proliferation, migration, and invasion of chordoma cells significantly decreased after PALB2 knockdown. Additionally, PALB2 showed high expression in various cancers and was associated with a poor prognosis. Conclusion: In summary, our results reveal that high PALB2 expression indicates a poor prognosis of chordoma patients and promotes the malignant phenotypes of chordoma cells in vitro.

Background: Chordoma is a malignant bone and soft tissue tumor derived from embryonic notochord remnants, and skull base chordoma accounts for ~1/3 of all chordoma cases. Skull base chordoma is closely related to the brainstem and cranial nerves and has a high recurrence rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the timing of tracheal extubation on perioperative pulmonary complications. We also aimed to explore predictors of postoperative artificial airway (AA) retention in patients with skull base chordoma. Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective cohort study. The study population included all skull base chordoma patients undergoing surgical treatment between January 2019 and December 2021 at Beijing Tiantan Hospital. The primary outcome was the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications. Several patient characteristics were evaluated for potential associations with AA retention. Results: A total of 310 patients with skull base chordoma were enrolled. The frequency of AA retention after surgery for skull base chordoma was 30.97%. The incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications was much lower in those without AA retention (3.74 vs. 39.58%, P < 0.001). Factors with the highest point estimates for the odds of AA retention included body mass index, cranial nerve involvement, maximum tumor diameter, operative method, hemorrhage volume, operative duration and intraoperative mechanical ventilation duration. Conclusions: In this retrospective cohort study, most of the factors associated with postoperative airway retention were closely related to the patient's tumor characteristics. These data demonstrate that respiratory management in patients with skull base chordoma remains an ongoing concern.

OBJECTIVE: Rathke cleft cysts (RCCs) are benign lesions originating from remnants of the Rathke pouch. RCCs have been classified into the intrasellar-based or purely suprasellar types. This research aims to study the optimal treatment nuances and evaluate the surgical outcomes of this distinct type of RCCs. METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed 36 patients with purely suprasellar RCCs who were treated by expanded endonasal endoscopic approach (EEA) from September 2018 to January 2021. The demographic data, presenting symptoms, endocrine status, imaging findings, operative details, and surgical outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS: According to the relationship with pituitary stalk, the suprasellar RCCs can be divided into 2 different growth patterns: intrastalk cyst (ISC, 52.8%) and extrastalk cyst (ESC, 47.2%). Preoperative endocrine dysfunctions occurred more in patients with ISC than ESC (P = 0.007), which are characterized by hypoadrenalism (P = 0.004) and hypogonadism (P = 0.008). Operation exerted different impacts on endocrine functions between ISC and ESC (P = 0.012). When identifying by single hypothalamic-pituitary axis, 4 patients with normal endocrine function developed a new hormonal deficit, 14 patients with preoperative endocrine dysfunctions benefited from our expanded EEA surgical treatment, and 3 of them completely recovered from the endocrinopathy after surgery. The postoperative endocrinopathy was positively associated with the numbers of preoperative abnormal endocrinal axes. Thirty-four (94.4%) patients had achieved gross total resection. Pituitary stalk was intactly preserved in 23 of 36 patients (63.9%), partly preserved in 10 patients, and not preserved in 3 patients. CONCLUSIONS: Purely suprasellar RCCs are a distinct type of RCCs, which originate from the pituitary stalk above the diaphragmatic sellae, and the treatment strategy via expanded EEA is a rational choice. Classification based on growth patterns would be beneficial to reduce endocrine disorders after surgery.

OBJECTIVE: The model of endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach (METTA) were made and the application of the 3-steps training mode in the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach (ETTA) training was discussed. METHODS: The plastic skull model was used to make a simple METTA model; the multicolor and multi-material 3D printing technology was used to make a METTA simulation model and the perfusion cadaver head specimen was used as the gold standard training model. Then 3 neurosurgeons evaluated the 3 types of models. Level 1 training group only received perfusion cadaveric head specimen training; level 2 training group with 3D printing METTA model plus cadaver head specimen training, and level 3 training group with simple model, 3D printing model and cadaver head specimen training group. The authenticity of the model and the training effect were evaluated according to the operation time and the damage degree to the surrounding structures. RESULTS: The results showed that perfusion cadaveric head specimens scored the highest in each item. The simplified model was superior to the 3D printing METTA in simulating the shape and elasticity of pituitary tumor tissue. The score of surgical skill training was the same as that of 3D printing METTA. In terms of the training effect, the doctors who had received 3 steps training had the highest score, which was better than the other 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: The application of 3 steps training mode with simple training model, 3D printing model and perfusion cadaver head specimen can improve the effect of ETTA operation training.

Object: Although revision surgery for recurrent craniopharyngiomas is more challenging than primary surgery and often accompanies a higher risk of death and complications, endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery (EETS) is sometimes still an effective and reliable treatment option. In this study, we introduced the surgical outcomes of EETS for recurrent craniopharyngiomas and summarized the surgical experiences. Methods: Between 2014 and 2018, 28 patients with recurrent craniopharyngiomas underwent 29 EETS in our department. We regarded the patient undergoing two EETS as two independent patients in statistical analysis. Of the 29 patients, 16 had undergone 1 previous surgery, 10 had undergone 2 previous surgeries, and the remaining 3 patients had undergone 3 surgeries. The extent of resection, visual and endocrine outcomes, and complications of all the patients were collected and analyzed. Results: Gross total resection was accomplished in 16 patients (55.17%), subtotal resection in 11 patients (37.93%), and partial resection in 2 patients (6.9%). Among the 22 patients with preoperative visual acuity and visual field impairment, some degree of vision improvement was observed in 18 patients, 3 patients were without visual change, and perpetual deterioration of vision occurred in one patient. The remaining six patients had normal vision before and after surgery. Postoperative endocrine tests showed that, among five patients with normal preoperative pituitary hormone function, only one patient still had normal pituitary hormone function and the other four patients had one or more hypothalamic-pituitary axes involved. None of the patients with preoperative endocrine dysfunction had endocrine function improved. Diabetes insipidus was observed in six new cases postoperatively. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage occurred in 1 patient. One patient had bacterial meningitis, which was cured with antibiotics and a lumbar drain. No serious morbidity and mortality occurred in all patients. Conclusions: For recurrent craniopharyngiomas, a personalized treatment plan should be developed according to the tumor characteristics and the patient's situation. There is no omnipotent method to be used for all patients. The EETS still is a safe and effective way to treat recurrent craniopharyngiomas in appropriate patients.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to establish and validate a MRI-based radiomics nomogram to predict progression-free survival (PFS) of clival chordoma. Methods: A total of 174 patients were enrolled in the study (train cohort: 121 cases, test cohort: 53 cases). Radiomic features were extracted from multiparametric MRIs. Intraclass correlation coefficient analysis and a Lasso and Elastic-Net regularized generalized linear model were used for feature selection. Then, a nomogram was established via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis in the train cohort. The performance of this nomogram was assessed by area under curve (AUC) and calibration curve. Results: A total of 3318 radiomic features were extracted from each patient, of which 2563 radiomic features were stable features. After feature selection, seven radiomic features were selected. Cox regression analysis revealed that 2 clinical factors (degree of resection, and presence or absence of primary chordoma) and 4 radiomic features were independent prognostic factors. The AUC of the established nomogram was 0.747, 0.807, and 0.904 for PFS prediction at 1, 3, and 5 years in the train cohort, respectively, compared with 0.582, 0.852, and 0.914 in the test cohort. Calibration and risk score stratified survival curves were satisfactory in the train and test cohort. Conclusions: The presented nomogram demonstrated a favorable predictive accuracy of PFS, which provided a novel tool to predict prognosis and risk stratification. Our results suggest that radiomic analysis can effectively help neurosurgeons perform individualized evaluations of patients with clival chordomas.

OBJECTIVE: Skull base chordoma (SBC) is rare and one of the most challenging diseases to treat. We aimed to assess the optimal timing of adjuvant radiation therapy (RT) and to evaluate the factors that influence resection and long-term outcomes. METHODS: In total, 284 patients with 382 surgeries were enrolled in this retrospective study. Postsurgically, 64 patients underwent RT before recurrence (pre-recurrence RT), and 47 patients underwent RT after recurrence. During the first attempt to achieve gross-total resection (GTR), when the entire tumor was resected, 268 patients were treated with an endoscopic midline approach, and 16 patients were treated with microscopic lateral approaches. Factors associated with the success of GTR were identified using χ2 and logistic regression analyses. Risk factors associated with chordoma-specific survival (CSS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were evaluated with the Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS: In total, 74.6% of tumors were marginally resected [GTR (40.1%), near-total resection (34.5%)]. History of surgery, large tumor volumes, and tumor locations in the lower clivus were associated with a lower GTR rate. The mean follow-up period was 43.9 months. At the last follow-up, 181 (63.7%) patients were alive. RT history, histologic subtype (dedifferentiated and sarcomatoid), non-GTR, no postsurgical RT, and the presence of metastasis were associated with poorer CSS. Patients with pre-recurrence RT had the longest PFS and CSS, while patients without postsurgical RT had the worst outcome. CONCLUSION: GTR is the goal of initial surgical treatment. Pre-recurrence RT would improve outcome regardless of GTR.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness, safety, complications, and prognosis of endoscopic endonasal surgery for pituitary adenomas with cavernous sinus invasion (CSI). METHODS: The clinical data of 803 pituitary adenomas with CSI surgeries performed in our single ward between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The resection degree, bone invasion, endocrine examination, complications, and outcome were retrospectively summarized. RESULTS: Gross total resection was achieved in 394 patients (49.1%) subtotal resection in 171 patients (21.3%) and partial resection in 238 patients (29.6%). Clinically variable analyses showed that there was a significant correlation between CSI and female, older age, operation history, and non-gross total resection (NGTR). Among the pituitary adenomas with CSI, there was a significant correlation between bone invasive and NGTR, Knosp classification, recurrence. K-M curves showed that young age, larger tumors, bilateral invasion, Grade 4 of Knosp classification, NGTR, and bone invasion were associated with pituitary adenomas regrowth. Multivariate analysis revealed that bone invasion, NGTR, and Grade 4 of Knosp classification were independent risk factors for pituitary adenomas regrowth. There was a significant correlation between CSI and female, older age, operation history, and tumor resection degree. CONCLUSIONS: There was a significant correlation between CSI and female, older age, operation history, and tumor resection degree. The patients with CSI and bone invasion were likely to recurrent. Non-gross total resection, bone invasion, and Grade 4 of Knosp classification were independent risk factors for pituitary adenomas regrowth. Endoscopic endonasal surgery is an excellent choice for pituitary adenomas with CSI.

OBJECT: The trans lamina terminalis approach (TLTA) has been described as a way to remove third ventricular tumors. The aim of this paper was to analyze the feasible outcomes of TLTA applied to tumors extending into the third ventricle in our institute. METHODS: Suprasellar tumors (n = 149) were treated by the extended endonasal approach from September 2019 to December 2020 in Beijing Tiantan Hospital. Eleven of the tumors were treated by TLTA or TLTA via the trans-chiasm-pituitary corridor (TCPC). The surgical technique notes of TLTA were described and indications and outcomes of the approach were analyzed. RESULTS: There were 11 patients enrolled in the study, six with papillary craniopharyngiomas, two with adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas, one with a germinal cell tumor (GCT), one with cavernous malformation and one with chordoid glioma. Four of the patients received a radical resection by TLTA alone, while seven of them received TLTA via the TCPC. Gross total resection was achieved in eight patients (72.7%), and partial resection in three patients (27.3%). Visual function was improved in four of the 11 patients (36.4%), was unchanged in five patients (45.5%), and deteriorated in two patients (18.2%). New-onset hypopituitarism occurred in seven patients (63.3%) and new-onset diabetes insipidus occurred in two patients (18.2%). Electrocyte imbalance were observed in six patients (54.5%) at post-operative week 2. There were no surgery-related deaths or cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Postoperative intracranial infection was observed in one patient (9.1%), and during the follow-up period, tumor recurrence occurred in one patient (9.1%). CONCLUSION: The expanded TLTA provides a feasible suprachiasm corridor to remove tumors extending into the third ventricle, especially for craniopharyngiomas. Sound understanding of the major strengths and limitations of this approach, as well as strategies for complication avoidance, is necessary for its safe and effective application.

OBJECTIVE: Accumulating studies report that levels of mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and red cell distribution width (RDW) are associated with outcomes in cancer patients, while studies including MCV and RDW in chordoma are lacking so far. Therefore, our study aims to investigate the prognostic impact of MCV and RDW on survival in skull base chordoma patients. METHODS: Levels of preoperative MCV and RDW in 187 primary skull base chordoma patients were collected. X-tile software was used to find the cutoff values of MCV and RDW. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) analyses were performed using the Kaplan-Meier methods, Cox analysis, and nomogram model. RESULTS: Low MCV level (MCV <84.2) was more commonly observed in classical chordoma patients (p=0.022). High RDW level (RDW≥12.7) was correlated with older patient age (p=0.022) and a tough tumor texture (p=0.035). Low MCV level and high RDW level were associated with poor PFS (p=0.045 and 0.007, respectively) and OS (p=0.023 and <0.001, respectively). Multivariate Cox analysis demonstrated that RDW was an independent prognostic indicator for both PFS (p=0.001) and OS (p<0.001). Importantly, a nomogram based on RDW and clinical predictors showed satisfactory performance for PFS and OS prediction (concordance index, C-index: 0.684 and 0.744, respectively). CONCLUSION: Our data was first to reveal the prognostic role of RDW in skull base chordoma, and identified the use of RDW may contribute to a more accurate prognosis judgment and personalized treatment decision.
