RESUMEN

Analysis of human eye pupil reactivity is a very valuable diagnostic method used mainly for evaluation of the condition of the autonomic nervous system and the visual system. The paper presents an experimental pupillometer built in the Institute of Physics of the Wroclaw University of Technology. The apparatus makes it possible to record and analyze pupillary light reflex and spontaneous changes in the pupil diameter during a session in the dark. The detector system used in the pupillometer allows us to record the pupil diameter at a rate of 90 Hz with a linear accuracy of 0.008 mm. In this paper, the proposed detection method, the principle of operation and calibration of the apparatus and the possibilities of the measurement system are presented.

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the blood flow in central retinal artery (CRA) in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and normal tension glaucoma (NTG). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two groups of patients were examined: I group consisted of 15 patients (19 eyes) with POAG, II group of 16 patients (32 eyes) with NTG. The controls were age-matched healthy persons. Blood flow velocities and resistance index in central retinal artery were measured by DRG Retina-Doppler. RESULTS: We found decreased blood flow velocity in CRA in most of the patients with NTG and in part of the patients with POAG. Significant increase of resistance index was found only in NTG group. CONCLUSION: Our study confirmed that assessment of the blood flow in central retinal artery appears to be a valuable method in diagnosis of neuropathy mechanism in glaucoma.

RESUMEN

The aim of the research was to determine, with new-generation fluorometer (Fluorotron Master), the factor of fluorescein leakage into the vitreous and to reveal, with the static perimeter (Humphrey's), the quantitative parameter of the visual field in retinal pigmentary dystrophy. The factor of fluorescein leakage into the vitreous was almost ten times higher in retinal pigmentary dystrophy and it indicated the damage of blood-retina barrier. The correlation between the factor of fluorescein leakage into the vitreous and the degree of visual field defect has not been found.

RESUMEN

The authors present the influence of glaucoma on the volume of vision for 62 points evenly situated in the range of the 30 degrees parallel with exclusion of the points to 10 degrees and points from the macular sphere. Investigations have been carried out by means of a computerized system of static perimetry PERS. The comparison included 250 patients with defects of the visual field typical for various grades of glaucoma and a control group consisting of healthy persons. The analysis of results suggests that the volume of vision constitutes a parameter facilitating the comparison of prints of the visual field as well as the evaluation of field defects in glaucoma.
